The main intention of this thesis is to give the basic information about the implementation of a node of one of the neural network algorithms. The main purpose of this thesis is to design, implement and analyze the node of the HTM (Hierarchical Temporal Memory) algorithm suggested by Jeff Hawkins [1]. In this document, a design implementation of HTM algorithm node based on Verilog hardware description language and MATLAB programming language is given. The node of HTM algorithm is implemented using Xilinx Spartan-3e FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) kit. The simulation results obtained with Xilinx ISE (Integrated Software Environment) 10.1 software are also provided.

The primary objective of this paper was to construct a "kinematic parameter-independent modeling of three-axis machine tools for geometric error measurement" technique. Improving the accuracy of the geometric error for three-axis machine tools is one of the machine tools- core techniques. This paper first applied the traditional method of HTM to deduce the geometric error model for three-axis machine tools. This geometric error model was related to the three-axis kinematic parameters where the overall errors was relative to the machine reference coordinate system. Given that the measurement of the linear axis in this model should be on the ideal motion axis, there were practical difficulties. Through a measurement method consolidating translational errors and rotational errors in the geometric error model, we simplified the three-axis geometric error model to a kinematic parameter-independent model. Finally, based on the new measurement method corresponding to this error model, we established a truly practical and more accurate error measuring technique for three-axis machine tools., {"references":["A.H. To address the need for a simpler parallel programming model, Transactional Memory (TM) has been developed and promises good parallel performance with easy-to-write parallel code. Unlike lock-based approaches, with TM, programmers do not need to explicitly specify and manage the synchronization among threads. However, programmers simply mark code segments as transactions, and the TM system manages the concurrency control for them. TM can be implemented either in software (STM) or hardware (HTM). STMs are more flexible but suffer from serious performance overheads whereas HTMs are faster but limited due to hardware space constrains. We present an implementation of a HTM system, based on an existing protocol (Scalable-TCC), over a full-system simulator. We provide a memory system that allows for a configurable number of cache entries, associativity, cache-line size, and all the access timings in the memory hierarchy. Combined with a powerful statistics system that provides all the necessary information to extract conclusions from the transactional executions. We evaluate our HTM system using applications that cover a wide range of transactional behaviours and demonstrate that it scales efficiently up to 32 processors.

Clinical Engineering (CE) Departments are in charge of healthcare technology management in healthcare facilities. The workload is proportional to the number of activities, the number and complexity of biomedical instrumentation, and the technology intensity of the facility. Clinical engineers and Biomedical equipment technicians work together in order to perform the different activities and to obtain customer satisfaction. This paper describes a model that can be used to estimate the number of engineers and technicians required to start a new CE Department. The estimation is obtained by means of simulation. Starting by several inputs that describe the facility and the quantity and characteristics of the instruments the model is able to provide the number of Clinical engineers and Biomedical equipment technicians.

Health technology management consists of several decision processes including the acquisition of new technology. The purchasing of a new device requires the selection of one among several products taking into account different criteria. When the technology is characterized by large amount of parameters the choice becomes problematical and a support tool is needed. In 2003 Sloane et al [1] published a study in which they demonstrated the potentialities of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to support the selection of a biomedical instrumentation. The work presented here describes the application of AHP to support the quality assessment for the selection of pacemakers and implantable defibrillators and shows that the method is indeed very appropriate for that task.

Black liquors are presently combusted in recovery boilers where the inorganic cooking chemicals are recovered and the energy in the organic material is converted to steam and electricity. A new technology, developed by Chemrec AB, is black liquor gasification (BLG). BLG has more to offer compared to the recovery boiler process, in terms of on-site generation of electric power, liquid fuel and process chemicals. A prerequisite for both optimization of existing processes and the commercialization of BLG is better understanding of the physical and chemical processes involved including interactions with the refractory lining. The chemistry in the BLG process is very complex and to minimize extensive and expensive time-consuming studies otherwise required accurate and reliable model descriptions are needed for a full understanding of most chemical and physical processes as well as for up-scaling of the new BLG processes. However, by using these calculated model results in practice, the errors in the state of the art thermochemical data have to be considered. An extensive literature review was therefore performed to update the data needed for unary, binary and higher order systems. The results from the review reviled that there is a significant range of uncertainty for several condensed phases and a few gas species. This resulted in experimental re-determinations of the binary phase diagrams sodium carbonate-sodium sulfide (Na2CO3-Na2S) and sodium sulfate-sodium sulfide (Na2SO4-Na2S) using High Temperature Microscopy (HTM), High Temperature X-ray Diffraction (HT-XRD) and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). For the Na2CO3-Na2S system, measurements were carried out in dry inert atmosphere at temperatures from 25 to 1200 °C. To examine the influence of pure CO2 atmosphere on the melting behavior, HTM experiments in the same temperature interval were made. The results include re-determination of liquidus curves, in the Na2CO3 rich area, melting points of the pure components as well as determination of the extent of the solid solution, Na2CO3(ss), area. The thermal stability of Na2SO3 was studied and the binary phase diagram Na2SO4-Na2S was re-determined. The results indicate that Na2SO3 can exist for a short time up to 750 °C, before it melts. It was also proved that a solid/solid transformation, not reported earlier, occurs at 675 ± 10 °C. At around 700 °C, Na2SO3 gradually breaks down within a few hours, to finally form the solid phases Na2SO4 and Na2S. From HTM measurements a metastable phase diagram including Na2SO3, as well as an equilibrium phase diagram have been constructed for the binary system Na2SO4-Na2S. Improved data on Na2S was experimentally obtained by using solid-state EMF measurements. The equilibrium constant for Na2S(s) was determined to be log Kf(Na2S(s)) (± 0.05) = 216.28 – 4750(T/K)–1 – 28.28878 ln (T/K). Gibbs energy of formation for Na2S(s) was obtained as ΔfG°(Na2S(s))/(kJ mol–1) (± 1.0) = 90.9 – 4.1407(T/K) + 0.5415849(T/K) ln (T/K). The standard enthalpy of formation of Na2S(s) was evaluated to be ΔfH°(Na2S(s), 298.15 K)/(kJ mol–1) (± 1.0) = – 369.0. The standard entropy was evaluated to be S°(Na2S(s), 298.15 K)/(J mol–1 K–1) (± 2.0) = 97.0. Analyses of used refractory material from the Chemrec gasifier were also performed in order to elucidate the stability of the refractory lining. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that the chemical attack was limited to 250-300 μm, of the surface directly exposed to the gasification atmosphere and the smelt. From XRD analysis it was found that the phases in this surface layer of the refractory were dominated by sodiumaluminosilicates, mainly Na1.55Al1.55Si0.45O4.

Colloque avec actes et comité de lecture. internationale.; International audience; In this paper we examine several scheduling heuristics for GridRPC middleware relying on the time-shared model (a server can execute more than one task at a time). Our work is based on a forecast module called the ‘Historical Trace Manager' (HTM), which is able to predict durations of tasks in the system. We show that the predictions performed by the HTM are very accurate. The five proposed scheduling heuristics use these predictions to map submitted tasks to servers. Experimental simulation results show that they are able to outperform the well-known MCT heuristic for several metrics (makespan but also sumflow, max-stretch, etc.) and therefore provide a better quality of service for the client.

To endure the success of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), developing dopant-free hole transporting materials is of paramount importance to induce long-term stability. Phthalocyanine has emerged as a viable alternative for common Spiro-OMeTAD, due to their excellent optoelectrical properties and chemical stability. We report the design and semiconducting properties of a thienyl-triphenylamine tetrasubstituted Zinc (II) phthalocyanine, and its application into PSCs. The PSCs fabricated with Zinc phthalocyanine without the use of any dopant and additives gave a competitive power conversion efficiency of over 14%, along with long-term stability

Background Glaucoma is the largest cause of irreversible blindness affecting more than 60 million people globally. The disease is defined as a gradual loss of peripheral vision due to death of Retinal Ganglion Cells (RGC). The RGC death is largely influenced by the rate of aqueous humor production by ciliary processes and its passage through the trabecular meshwork (TM) in the anterior part of the eye. Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), the most common subtype, is a genetically complex disease. Multiple genes and many loci have been reported to be involved in POAG but taken together they explain less than 10 % of the patients from a genetic perspective warranting more studies in different world populations. The purpose of this study was to perform genome-wide search for common variants associated with POAG in an east-Indian population. Methods The study recruited 746 POAG cases and 697 controls distributed into discovery and validation cohorts. In the discovery phase, genome-wide genotype data was generated on Illumina Infinium 660 W-Quad platform and the significant SNPs were genotyped using Illumina GGGT assay in the second phase. Logistic regression was used to test association in the discovery phase to adjust for population sub-structure and chi-square test was used for association analysis in validation phase. Publicly available expression dataset for trabecular meshwork was used to check for expression of the candidate gene under cyclic mechanical stress. Western blot and immunofluorescence experiments were performed in human TM cells and murine eye, respectively to check for expression of the candidate gene. Results Meta-analysis of discovery and validation phase data revealed the association of rs7916852 in MPP7 gene (p = 5.7x10−7) with POAG. We have shown abundant expression of MPP7 in the HTM cells. Expression analysis shows that upon cyclic mechanical stress MPP7 was significantly down-regulated in HTM (Fold change: 2.6; p = 0.018). MPP7 protein expression was also found to be enriched in the ciliary processes of the murine eye. Conclusion Using a genome-wide approach we have identified MPP7 as a novel candidate gene for POAG with evidence of its expression in relevant ocular tissues and dysregulation under mechanical stress possibly mimicking the disease scenario. Most Hardware Transactional Memory (HTM) implementations choose fixed version and conflict management policies at design time. While eager HTM systems store transactional state in-place in memory and resolve conflicts when they are produced, lazy HTM systems buffer the transactional state in specialized hardware and defer the resolution of conflicts until commit time. Each scheme has its strengths and weaknesses, but, unfortunately, both approaches are too inflexible in the way they manage data versioning and transactional contention. Thus, fixed HTM systems may result in a significant performance opportunity loss when they execute complex transactional applications. In this paper, we present DynTM (Dynamically Adaptable HTM), the first fully-flexible HTM system that permits the simultaneous execution of transactions using complementary version and conflict management strategies. In the heart of DynTM is a novel coherence protocol that allows tracking conflicts among eager and lazy transactions. Both the eager and the lazy execution modes of DynTM exhibit very high performance compared to modern HTM systems. For example, the DynTM lazy execution mode implements local commits to improve on previous proposals. In addition, lazy transactions share the majority of hardware support with eager transactions, reducing substantially the hardware cost compared to other lazy HTM systems. By utilizing a simple predictor to decide the best execution mode for each transaction at runtime, DynTM obtains an average speedup of 34% over HTM systems that employ fixed version and conflict management policies.
