Abstract

A chiral Brønsted acid catalysed phosphine‐mediated deoxygenation protocol is reported. This metal‐free method provides a precise kinetic resolution platform for azaarylethynyl tertiary alcohols, which are a broad category of biologically and synthetically important azaarene derivatives. In addition to providing an efficient method for the first asymmetric preparation of these tertiary alcohols, the strategy facilitates the construction of azaaryl‐functionalized allenes with good to excellent enantioselectivities. The high selectivity factors (s up to 235), broad substrate scope, and ability to convert azaaryl compounds into both chiral tertiary alcohols and allenes robustly underscore the efficiency and promising utility of this method. The practicability is further validated by the successful synthesis of deuterated allenes with high ee values and substantial incorporation of deuterium using inexpensive D2O as the deuterium source. Abstract

The ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) test is widely used for material characterization for engineering applications. However, wave velocity alone does not provide a complete picture of material conditions because different variables affect wave velocity and material strength. Additional wave characteristics such as wave attenuation should be also considered in nondestructive evaluation of materials. Six cylindrical hot mix asphalt (HMA) specimens were prepared each compacted with different numbers of gyrations to generate a wide range of stiffness moduli. The UPV method and standard dynamic modulus testing were used to evaluate the condition of the HMA specimens. Wave characteristics were measured in the time domain and the frequency domain. The relative condition of HMA mixtures was evaluated in terms of five wave characteristics: wave velocity, peak-to-peak (PTP) amplitude, maximum Fourier spectrum magnitude, spectrum area, and dominant frequency. The correlations between these characteristics and the dynamic modulus were examined to select suitable wave-based quality condition indices. The results showed that the complementary use of wave velocity and three amplitude-related wave characteristics enables a reliable assessment of the quality of HMA mixtures. This result was verified by repeating the experiments on three sets of polymer-modified asphalt concrete specimens. L'essai de vitesse de propagation des impulsions ultrasoniques (UPV) est largement utilise pour caracteriser les applications techniques. Toutefois, la vitesse de propagation des impulsions seule ne fournit pas une image complete des conditions des materiaux parce que diverses variables ont un impact sur la vitesse de propagation des impulsions et la resistance des materiaux. Des caracteristiques supplementaires des impulsions, telles que l'attenuation des impulsions, devraient egalement etre considerees lors de l'evaluation non destructive des materiaux. Six echantillons cylindriques d'asphalte melange a chaud (HMA) ont ete prepares et compactes a un nombre different de girations afin de generer une grande plage de modules de rigidite. La methode UPV et l'essai standard du module dynamique ont ete utilises pour evaluer l'etat des echantillons de HMA. Les caracteristiques des impulsions ont ete mesurees dans les domaines du temps et des frequences. L'etat relatif des melanges HMA a ete evalue en termes de cinq caracteristiques d'impulsions : vitesse des impulsions, amplitude crete a crete, l'amplitude maximale du spectre de Fourier, la surface du spectre et la frequence dominante. Les correlations entre ces caracteristiques et le module dynamique ont ete etudiees afin de choisir des indices adequats bases sur les impulsions et les indicateurs de qualite. Selon les resultats, l'utilisation complementaire de la vitesse de propagation et de trois caracteristiques des impulsions reliees a l'amplitude permet une evaluation fiable de la qualite des HMA. 184. Synthesis and electrochemical performance of low cost nitrogen-doped carbon cryogel composites as supercapacitor electrodes

Abstract

Developing cost-effective methods for synthesizing Nitrogen-doped carbon cryogels is crucial for advancing supercapacitor technology due to their enhanced electrochemical properties. Nitrogen-doped porous carbon cryogels are synthesized through the freeze-drying method by substituting resorcinol with phenol and using urea/melamine as nitrogen sources. The effect of nitrogen sources on the structure and electrochemical performance is investigated. In the case of carbon cryogel composites samples, using melamine as the nitrogen source (PMF) is more favorable than using urea (PUF), while both nitrogen-doped samples significantly outperform the undoped samples (PF). The PMF sample displays a specific surface area of 1119.00 m2 g−1, and a nitrogen content of 2.19 wt%. In the three-electrode system, the specific capacitance of the PMF sample reaches up to 247.9 F g−1at a current density of 0.5 A g−1, and its rate performance is 85.52 %. By comparison, the PF sample exhibits specific capacitance and rate performance of 85.4 F g−1and 33.44 % under the same parameters. The assembled symmetric supercapacitor in a buckle type system also demonstrates exceptional energy density (14.41 Wh kg−1), long-term cycle stability, and a favorable capacitance retention rate (72.2 %). These excellent electrochemical performances can be attributed to the synergistic effects of the hierarchical pore structures and heteroatoms doping.

This research was conducted to probe the effect of CREB1 in the progression of gastric cancer (GC) and the molecules involved.Materials and Methods: CREB1 expression in GC tissues and cell lines (AGS and MKN-45) as well as that in normal tissues and in gastric mucosa cell line (GES-1) was detected. The correlation between CREB1 expression and prognosis of GC patients was determined. Artificial silencing of CREB1 was introduced to evaluate its effect on biological behaviors of GC cells. The target microRNA (miRNA) of CREB1 and the target mRNA of miR-186 were predicted and validated. Altered expression of miR-186, KRT8 and HIF-1α was introduced to confirm their functions in GC progression.Results: CREB1 was abundantly expressed in GC tissues and cells and linked to dismal prognosis in patients. Silencing of CREB1 or upregulation of miR-186 suppressed the malignant behaviors such as growth, epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and invasion of GC cells, while artificial overexpression of KRT8 led to reversed trends. KRT8 was a target mRNA of miR-186, and CREB1 transcriptionally suppressed miR-186 expression to further up-regulate KRT8. KRT8 was also found to increase HIF-1α expression. Upregulation of HIF-1α was found to block the suppressing role of CREB1 silencing in GC cell malignancy.Conclusion: This study evidenced that silencing of CREB1 inhibits growth, invasion, EMT and resistance to apoptosis of GC cells involving the upregulation of miR-186 and the following downregulation of KRT8 and HIF-1α.Keywords: CREB1, transcription suppression, microRNA-186, KRT-8, HIF-1α, gastric cancer

Abstract

Asymmetric H-bonding catalysis as a viable strategy for enantioselective radical coupling of ketones is demonstrated., Asymmetric H-bonding catalysis as a viable strategy for enantioselective radical coupling of ketones is demonstrated. With a visible-light-mediated dual catalytic system involving a dicyanopyrazine-derived chromophore (DPZ) photosensitizer and a chiral phosphoric acid (CPA), N-aryl glycines with a variety of 1,2-diketones and isatins underwent a redox-neutral radical coupling process and furnished two series of valuable chiral 1,2-amino tertiary alcohols in high yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). In this catalysis platform, the formation of neutral radical intermediates between ketyl and H-bonding catalyst CPA is responsible for presenting stereocontrolling factors. Its success in this work should provide inspiration for expansion to other readily accessible ketones to react with various radical species, thus leading to a productive approach to access chiral tertiary alcohol derivatives.

Abstract

Haemophilus parasuis infection is of considerable economic importance in the swine industry due to high morbidity and mortality in naive swine populations. Accurate detection and identification of the causative agent are difficult, yet necessary, for disease control. In this study, a simple and rapid method of cross-priming amplification (CPA) with a vertical flow (VF) visualization strip was established to detect H. parasuis. The reaction can specifically identify 15 serovar reference strains and 57 clinically isolated strains of H. parasuis, with a detection limit of 14CFU. The performance of the CPA-VF assay was evaluated and compared with that of species-specific PCR by testing 62 clinical culture-positive specimens of H. parasuis. The entire process, from specimen processing to analysis of the results, can be completed in 2h without a complicated apparatus. The convenience and speed of the CPA-VF assay in this study make it a suitable choice for epidemiological investigation and point-of-care testing (POCT) for H. parasuis infection.
