Abstract

In the face of escalating natural disasters, particularly hurricanes, swift and accurate post-disaster assessment is imperative for effective humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR). This study delves into the challenges of employing machine learning and deep learning techniques tailored explicitly for post-hurricane damage detection. Leveraging advanced technologies such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and remote sensing, the research proposes an innovative methodology. Deep features are extracted using DenseNet201, and dimensionality reduction through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is applied. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier discerns damage from satellite images. The model is meticulously developed and rigorously tested on the Hurricane Harvey dataset. Results exhibit a promising accuracy of 97.10, laying a foundation for post-disaster damage identification. The comparison is also done with other classifiers based on performance metrics such as Accuracy, confusion matrix, etc., However, the study acknowledges areas for future exploration, including real-time implementation, scalability, interpretability of deep learning models, integrating human expertise, and addressing biases. Abstract

Background: Research examination led during the Rabi season of 2018-19 and 2019-20 to discover the Effect of hormonal seed strengthening on seed health status under accelerated ageing test in lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) at state seed testing laboratory. The Blotter test was conducted in CRD plan with four replications. From the examination it was demonstrated that the hormonal treatment with salicylic acid at RH (90%) and temperature (35°C) for 2 days ageing showed least infection, while contagious contamination higher with the increment in relative humidity, temperature and duration of artificial ageing. Methods: During the years 2018 to 2020, the current experiment was carried out at the state seed testing laboratory, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, SHUATS, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. In the experiment, 37 different treatment permutations were used. To accelerate the ageing process, the seeds were placed in an ageing chamber with high temperatures and relative humidity. The aged seeds was then revitalized with hormones, a process known as hormonal seed fortification. Result: Our finding revealed that the aged seeds treated with gibberellic acid and salicylic acid (Growth Hormone) enhanced the quality of seed health status in Lentil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Deep learning models have received a significant breakthrough in remote sensing scene classification due to their discriminative, hierarchical feature extraction ability. Nevertheless, CNN-based methods deliver accurate classification results only with sufficient annotated training samples. The computational bottleneck of CNNs with numerous parameters in case of inadequate training samples and the inherent class imbalance problem in high-resolution satellite scene classification question the classifier's performance. Existing deep CNNs with conventional Cross-Entropy loss function neglected the significance of gradient contribution from minority classes in handling imbalanced LULC class distribution. In this context, we propose the hybrid probabilistic gradient-based deep learning framework CNN-FHSVM with regularized novel Focal-Hinge loss cost function optimization for alleviating misclassifications in imbalanced datasets. The empirical experimentation with Sentinel 2 EuroSat Dataset benchmarked for deep learning algorithms demonstrated that the proposed model is superior in mitigating classification errors in imbalanced class distribution contrasted to the cutting-edge deep learning frameworks. The proposed loss function adaptively updates the gradient of the minority classes, drifting the focus to misclassified scenes. Focal-hinge loss is the first endeavor adapted to remote sensing LULC multiclass classification to reduce misclassifications. The model demonstrates higher accuracy with reduced misclassifications and training time and can benefit other remote sensing applications like early deforestation urban planning, where LULC maps are imbalanced. 187. Women’s Self-Portrayals on Social Media

Abstract

The objective of this dissertation was to examine how women use social media for self-portrayal and whether adherence to gendered norms of physical attractiveness and message assertiveness influence the evaluations of these portrayals. Three studies were conducted. In the first experiment, women’s physical attractiveness was found to affect their persuasiveness through likeability and perceived competence; benevolent sexism moderated this mediation. In the second experiment, women’s physical attractiveness was found to influence reader’s sexism indirectly and negatively, through perceived competence. Assertiveness interacted with attractiveness to influence gender related collective self-esteem for female participants. The third study was a content analysis examining portrayals of pregnancy on Instagram. This study concluded that pregnancy representations on social media are not realistic; they were found to be overly positive, highly commercialized, and endorsing normative beauty ideals. Overall, all three studies found self-portrayals of women on social media to be informed and influenced by gender normative expectations.

Abstract

The increasing global population projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050 from the current 7.7 billion, which is going to significantly impact food availability. Therefore, current global agricultural production needs to be increased to feed the unconstrained growing population. The changing climatic condition due to anthropogenic activities also makes the conditions more challenging to meet the required crop productivity in the future. Potato is third most consumed staple food. The current cultivation and demand of potato is particularly more in developing countries with high levels of poverty, hunger, and malnutrition because it is cheap source of nutrition and easily available. Potato is severely infected by a number of diseases, insect pests, and abiotic environmental conditions. Amidst the backdrop of climate change, the situation is deteriorating. Projections indicate that the average potato productivity in India's primary potato-growing states, responsible for approximately 90% of the nation's total potato output, is expected to decline by 2.0% in the 2050s and a more substantial 6.4% in the 2080s. Therefore to develop tolerance in plants to cope with changing environmental condition is need of hour to feed the overgrowing population. In this review, we discussed the application of CRISPR to enhance the crop productivity and develop biotic and abiotic stress-tolerant in potato to face the current changing climatic conditions is also discussed. The review also sheds light on the future prospects of CRISPR/Cas technology for potato breeding, including potential challenges and opportunities.

Abstract

The photovoltaic (PV) have their installations in outdoor conditions where they face several unfavorable conditions and one of them is shading. One form of shading is partial shading that create mismatch among solar PV cells consequently disturbing electrical outputs and performance of a PV array output and hence power losses are created. A lot of information can be gathered just by observing the shape and magnitude of the curves obtained from I-V & P-V characteristics of the photovoltaic array. The I-V & P-V characteristics under shading also show changes in their usual shape which is analyzed in our research paper using MATLAB/Simulink-based simulation results by examining the variation in the characteristics of a series-parallel photovoltaic array configuration under partial shading conditions. The simulated results show existence of multiple peaks and steps in the I-V & P-V characteristics. The second part of result section show a comparative study among different partial shading condition and the mismatching power loss is estimated to be 27.16%, 29%, and 42.8% for partial shading pattern cases 2, 3, and 4, respectively. This paper will help readers and researchers with a clear idea of what shading is and how it affects the output of photovoltaic systems with a change in shading.

Abstract

One of the eldest human diseases is tuberculosis (TB), for which there is molecular evidence dating back more than 17,000 years. Unfortunately, TB is still one of the top 10 infectious diseases that kill people worldwide, second only to HIV, despite advances in detection and treatment. The World Health Organization (WHO) claims that TB is an international pandemic. It is the main cause of death for those with HIV. In India, the fight against TB has largely been divided into three eras throughout its history: the early era, before the development of x-ray and chemotherapy; the post- independence era, when national TB control programmes were started and put into place; and the current era, when an ongoing WHO-assisted TB control programme is in place. Today's DOTS in India. A new anti-tuberculosis (TB) medication called delamanid, a nitroimidazo-oxazole derivative, has strong in-vitro and in- vivo antitubercular action against drug-susceptible and -resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. With intention to propose the most probable mechanism of action of delamanid the docking based computational analysis has been performed against enyl ACP reductase (InhA) as targeted protein. The molecular docking of delamanid with enyl ACP reductase (InhA) showed binding energy (Kcal/mol) -10.86 having molecular interaction Lys165, Ala198, Phe149, Pro193, Met199, Glu219, Pro156, Met103 & Gly96. The concluding consequences of the existing research found out that the chosen molecule highly bounded with InhA thereby inhibiting the mycobacterial cell wall synthesis.
