Abstract: Astronomy and astrophysics 603, A31 (2017). doi:10.1051/0004-6361/201629540, We present an extensive study of the BL Lac object Mrk 501 based on a data set collected during the multi-instrument campaign spanning from 2009 March 15 to 2009 August 1, which includes, among other instruments, MAGIC, VERITAS, Whipple 10 m, and Fermi-LAT to cover the γ-ray range from 0.1 GeV to 20 TeV; RXTE and Swift to cover wavelengths from UV tohard X-rays; and GASP-WEBT, which provides coverage of radio and optical wavelengths. Optical polarization measurements were provided for a fraction of the campaign by the Steward and St. Petersburg observatories. We evaluate the variability of the source and interband correlations, the γ-ray flaring activity occurring in May 2009, and interpret the results within two synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) scenarios. Aims. The multiband variability observed during the full campaign is addressed in terms of the fractional variability, and the possible correlations are studied by calculating the discrete correlation function for each pair of energy bands where the significance was evaluated with dedicated Monte Carlo simulations. The space of SSC model parameters is probed following a dedicated grid-scan strategy, allowing for a wide range of models to be tested and offering a study of the degeneracy of model-to-data agreement in the individual model parameters, hence providing a less biased interpretation than the “single-curve SSC model adjustment” typically reported in the literature. Methods. We find an increase in the fractional variability with energy, while no significant interband correlations of flux changes are found on the basis of the acquired data set. The SSC model grid-scan shows that the flaring activity around May 22 cannot be modeled adequately with a one-zone SSC scenario (using an electron energy distribution with two breaks), while it can be suitably described within a two (independent) zone SSC scenario. Here, one zone is responsible for the quiescent emission from the averaged 4.5-month observing period, while the other one, which is spatially separated from the first, dominates the flaring emission occurring at X-rays and very-high-energy (>100 GeV, VHE) γ rays. The flaring activity from May 1, which coincides with a rotation of the electric vector polarization angle (EVPA), cannot be satisfactorily reproduced by either a one-zone or a two-independent-zone SSC model, yet this is partially affected by the lack of strictly simultaneous observations and the presence of large flux changes on sub-hour timescales (detected at VHE γ rays). Results. The higher variability in the VHE emission and lack of correlation with the X-ray emission indicate that, at least during the 4.5-month observing campaign in 2009, the highest energy (and most variable) electrons that are responsible for the VHE γ rays do not make a dominant contribution to the ~1 keV emission. Alternatively, there could be a very variable component contributing to the VHE γ-ray emission in addition to that coming from the SSC scenario. The studies with our dedicated SSC grid-scan show that there is some degeneracy in both the one-zone and the two-zone SSC scenarios probed, with several combinations of model parameters yielding a similar model-to-data agreement, and some parameters better constrained than others. Abstract: One key issue in the design of Real-Time Image Processing and Computer Vision IP/CV systems is the massive volume of data to process. Not only the number of arithmetic and logic operations over the data but also the access to these data represents an important issue. An Application-Specific Instruction Set Processor ASIP focused on Real-Time IP/CV algorithms was developed in this work. Starting from a standard 32-bit Reduced Instruction Set Computer RISC as a benchmark, we analyzed the different issues and optimized the processor incrementally. We derived an economical image memory partition and also a new data path concept to speed up the processing. RTL models were synthesized for an FPGA, enabling an analysis of power consumption, area, and processing speed, to show the corresponding overheads in comparison with the original processor architecture.

Abstract: We measured drain bias stress effects and current collapse in AlGaN/ GaN heterostructure field-effect transistors (HFETs) on a-plane and c-plane GaN substrates. An a-plane AlGaN/GaN HFET (a-HFET) shows small current collapse with a threshold voltage (Vth = -1.8 V). On the other hand, a c-plane HFET (c-HFET) with the same barrier thickness (20 nm) shows a small current collapse, although Vth was negatively large (Vth = -4 V). Current collapse in a-HFET was not large compared with that in conventional c-HFET on GaN. A c-HFET on sapphire was also measured. The current collapses in HFETs on sapphire were larger than that in HFETs on a GaN substrate. The current collapses in the thin-barrier c-HFET (Vth = -1.8 V) were particularly large. Abstract: The Focal-Plane Image Processing area aims to bring processing elements as near as possible to the pixels and to the camera's focal-plane. Most of the works reported in the literature uses only simple processing elements, in general analog ones, with few flexibility. With the technology advances, a new generation of Vision Processors is emerging. It is expected that multi/many-core systems will be integrated to the pixel sensors, offering several opportunities for parallelism exploration, resulting in high performance and flexible processing systems. The programmability is one of the main problems in this area, since most programmers are not able to create parallel algorithms and applications. In this work, we propose a methodology to the design and programming of many-core focal-plane vision processors. The application is described using a Domain Specific Language, from which the parallelism characteristics are extracted. Afterwards, a new abstract model is derived using techniques such as Program Slicing (PS) and Task-Graph Clustering (TGC). The abstract model is then transformed in a SystemC/TLM2.0 description, in order to allow for different timing accuracy simulations. The results of the simulations are used together with an ASIP design tool in order to determine both the microarchitecture of processing elements and the communication structure of the new system. Finally, from the model derived before, a new source code is generated and programmed into the new platform. In this context, the main concepts and ideas are described in this work, as well as some partial results.

Abstract: Non-polar GaN substrates have attracted attention because they can improve the performance of GaN devices. Growth of high-quality non-polar GaN single crystals, however, has not been realized. Here, we attempted to grow m-plane GaN crystals using the Na flux method and investigated the effect of additives such as Ca and Li in Na flux on transparency, surface roughness, and crystallinity. We found that the addition of Ca and Li improved the transparency and the surface roughness of the crystals. Moreover, high-temperature growth improved crystallinity and decreased impurities such as Ca, Li, and O in GaN crystals. Abstract: In order to analyze magnetic characteristics of magnetic devices, it is necessary to accurately measure magnetic properties of an electrical steel sheet in arbitrary directions. In this paper, we developed a 2-D-single-sheet tester (SST) using diagonal exiting coils in order to improve the measurement accuracy under high flux condition. The measurement region of flux density B and magnetic-field strength H is examined for the accurate measurement. The magnetic properties of grain-oriented electrical steel sheet under alternating magnetic flux and rotating magnetic flux are measured using our system. The accuracy of measurement in the case of grain-oriented sheet is examined by comparing the measured results using 2-D-SST with those by using an ordinary SST under alternating flux excitation. The effect of positioning error of orthogonal B and H coils on measurement accuracy is also discussed.

Abstract: This article presents the development of a timberjack-like pruning robot. The climbing principal is an imitation of the climbing approach of timberjacks in Japan. The robot's main features include having its center of mass outside the tree, and an innovative climbing strategy fusing straight and spiral climbs. This novel design brings both lightweight and high climbing speed features to the pruning robot. We report our progress in developing the robot, focusing on straight climbing, behavior on uneven surfaces, and pruning.

Abstract: High-quality and low cost bulk crystals are needed in the field of group III nitride semiconductors in order to develop optical and electrical devices. There are two approaches for the growth of bulk GaN crystal by the Na flux method. One is to grow thick GaN crystal on a seed GaN crystal grown by vapour phase method. The other one is to grow GaN crystal on the seed GaN crystal obtained by spontaneous nucleation. The both methods show advantages and disadvantages, respectively. Abstract: Lipase from Candida rugosa was immobilized by covalent attachment on hybrid SiO2-chitosan obtained by sol-gel technique. A comparative study between free and immobilized lipase was provided in terms of pH, temperature, kinetic parameters and thermal stability on the olive oil hydrolysis. The pH and temperature for maximum activity shifted from 7.0 and 45 ºC for the free lipase to 7.5 and wide range of temperature (40-50 ºC) after immobilization. Kinetics parameters were found to obey Michaelis-Menten equation and K M values indicated that immobilization process reduced the affinity of enzyme-substrate; however Kd values revealed an increase of thermal stability of lipase.

Abstract: The impending introduction of dual-fuel plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) will impose significant challenges on current vehicle emissions testing equipment and protocols. One reason is the all-electric range and random start of the combustion engine. A second reason is the period of low or zero flow rate of exhaust volume. The present paper systematically evaluates these challenges by testing a Toyota prototype with an industry-standard, constant-volume sampler system in parallel with bag mini diluter equipment. Both systems exhibit technical difficulties when testing the PHEV. Discrepancies between the two methods can be corrected with software manipulations for a charge-sustaining operation. However, there are clear mechanisms of possible error in CO2 emissions collected during charge-depleting operation for both technologies. These findings indicate that alternative methods, including continuous sampling methods, may be required for accurate vehicle certification.

Abstract: Replication-competent oncolytic viruses hold great potential for the clinical treatment of many cancers. Importantly, many oncolytic virus candidates, such as reovirus and myxoma virus, preferentially infect cancer cells bearing abnormal cellular signaling pathways. Reovirus and myxoma virus are highly responsive to activated Ras and Akt signaling pathways, respectively, for their specificity for viral oncolysis. However, considering the complexity of cancer cell populations, it is possible that other tumor-specific signaling pathways may also contribute to viral discrimination between normal versus cancer cells. Because carcinogenesis is a multistep process involving the accumulation of both oncogene activations and the inactivation of tumor suppressor genes, we speculated that not only oncogenes but also tumor suppressor genes may have an important role in determining the tropism of these viruses for cancer cells. It has been previously shown that many cellular tumor suppressor genes, such as p53, ATM and Rb, are important for maintaining genomic stability; dysfunction of these tumor suppressors may disrupt intact cellular antiviral activity due to the accumulation of genomic instability or due to interference with apoptotic signaling. Therefore, we speculated that cells with dysfunctional tumor suppressors may display enhanced susceptibility to challenge with these oncolytic viruses, as previously seen with adenovirus. We report here that both reovirus and myxoma virus preferentially infect cancer cells bearing dysfunctional or deleted p53, ATM and Rb tumor suppressor genes compared to cells retaining normal counterparts of these genes. Thus, oncolysis by these viruses may be influenced by both oncogenic activation and tumor suppressor status.

Abstract: The mechanisms associated with electrical conduction through individual threading dislocations (TDs) in a Na-flux GaN crystal grown with a multipoint-seed-GaN technique were investigated by conductive atomic force microscopy (C-AFM). To focus on individual TDs, dislocation-related etch pits (DREPs) were formed on the Na-flux GaN surface by wet chemical etching, after which microscopic Pt electrodes were locally fabricated on the DREPs to form conformal contacts to the Na-flux GaN crystal, using electron beam assisted deposition. The C-AFM data clearly demonstrate that the leakage current flows through the individual TD sites. It is also evident that the leakage current and the electrical conduction mechanism vary significantly based on the area within the Na-flux GaN crystal where the TDs are formed. Abstract: We propose a path optimization method (POM) to evade the sign problem in the Monte-Carlo calculations for complex actions. Among many approaches to the sign problem, the Lefschetz-thimble path-integral method and the complex Langevin method are promising and extensively discussed. In these methods, real field variables are complexified and the integration manifold is determined by the flow equations or stochastically sampled. When we have singular points of the action or multiple critical points near the original integral surface, however, we have a risk to encounter the residual and global sign problems or the singular drift term problem. One of the ways to avoid the singular points is to optimize the integration path which is designed not to hit the singular points of the Boltzmann weight. By specifying the one-dimensional integration-path as $z=t+if(t) (f\in \mathbb{R})$ and by optimizing $f(t)$ to enhance the average phase factor, we demonstrate that we can avoid the sign problem in a one-variable toy model for which the complex Langevin method is found to fail. In this proceedings, we propose POM and discuss how we can avoid the sign problem in a toy model. Abstract: Accelerator-based neutron sources are being developed worldwide. In a neutron source, it is essential to know the characteristics of the field including neutrons and gamma rays. However, for the neutron, it is still difficult to measure the energy spectrum below 10 keV. In the present study, a low-energy neutron spectrometer has been designed and developed to examine the accelerator-based neutron source performance. The proposed spectrometer will finally cover neutron energy from the thermal-to-kilo-electron-volt region and is based on a 3 He proportional counter. It is positioned in parallel with the incident neutron beam, and the reaction depth distribution is measured. Since the reaction depth distribution varies depending on the incident neutron energy, it can be converted to the neutron energy spectrum. The spectrometer is 50 cm long X 5 cm in diameter with a gas pressure of 0.5 MPa. Recently, a prototype detector was completed, and the signal test is now in progress. The preliminary test result has described the present spectrometer availability as a low-energy neutron spectrometer for an accelerator-based neutron source. Because this kind of spectrometer did not exist heretofore, the spectrometer can be applied to neutron source facilities, e.g., proton accelerators like the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) and nuclear reactors as well as accelerator-based neutron sources for boron neutron capture therapy like the fixed field alternating gradient-emittance-energy recovery internal target (FFAG-ERIT).

Abstract: Thin films of the perovskite-type oxide La1-χSrχCoO3-δ were deposited onto Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95, SiO2 and single crystal MgO (100) substrates surface by a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) using a XeCl excimer laser to study the difference of the electronic properties and nonstoichiometry. It was shown that the oxygen nonstoichiometry of thin film is smaller than that of bulk for La1-χSrχCoO3-δ. The conductivity of the films were measured by a DC four probe method in 10-4-1 bar O2 gas at temperatures of 25-800{degree sign}C. The activation energy of the conductivity for thin films strongly depends on substrates due to the mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficient between the thin film and the substrate. Although the temperature coefficient of conductivity of La1-χSrχCoO3-δ bulk was negative for χ≥0.4 and was positive for 0≤χ≤0.3, that of thin film was positive irrespective of χ. At the condition with the Co mean valence of 3.0 for χ=0.4, 0.5, the conductivity shows large values for bulk, on the other hand, the conductivity is close to 0 for thin film. These facts suggest the electron hole in bulk is delocalized and metal like, while that in thin film is localized on cobalt ion.

Abstract: Background: The prolonged bed-rest required achieving hemostasis after splanchnic angiography and interventional procedures can be avoided if the upper limb arteries are used. In such procedures, the use of long sheaths capable of reaching the descending aorta may be advantageous. Purpose: To analyze the results of procedures that utilizes an upper-limb-artery approach and long sheaths. Material and Methods: Two hundred forty-two patients with a mean age of 64 years underwent splanchnic angiography and interventional procedures via an upper limb artery using a long sheath (85 cm, 4-French). Repeat examinations were performed on 48 patients and the total number of examinations was 296. The records of these 296 examinations were reviewed and the success rate and complications were evaluated. Results: Overall, 295 of 296 (99.7%) examinations were successful, and one (0.3%) failed. Complications and side effects occurred in six cases (2.0%), a painful sheath manipulation occurred in two examinations (0.7%), and arterial occlusion (including temporary occlusion), hematoma of the puncture site, and pseudoaneurysm occurred in two (0.7%), one (0.3%), and one (0.3%) patient, respectively. Conclusion: The use of a long sheath capable of reaching the descending aorta enables the performance of splanchnic angiography and interventional procedures via the upper limb arteries.

Abstract: The development of new neutron sources for BNCT applications, based on particle accelerators is currently underway all over the world. Though nuclear reactors were used for a long time as the only neutron source available having the requested flux levels, the accelerator-based ones have recently been investigated on the other hand due to its easy-to-use and acceptable performances. However, when using an accelerator, various secondary particles would be emitted which forms a troublesome background. Moreover, the neutrons produced have usually an energy spectrum somewhat different from the requested one and thus should be largely moderated. An additional issue to be taken into account is the patient positioning, which should be close to the neutron source, in order to take advantage of a neutron flux level high enough to limit the BNCT treatment time within 1 h. This implies that, inside a relatively narrow space, neutrons should be moderated, while unnecessary secondary particles should be shielded. Considering that a background-free neutron field from an accelerator-driven neutron source dedicated to BNCT application is generally difficult to be provided, the characterization of such a neutron field will have to be clearly assessed. In the present study, a low energy neutron spectrometer has been thus designed and is now being developed to measure the accelerator-based neutron source performance. The presently proposed spectrometer is based on a 3 He proportional counter, which is 50 cm long and 5 cm in diameter, with a gas pressure of 0.5 MPa. It is quite unique that the spectrometer is set up in parallel with the incident neutron beam and a reaction depth distribution is measured by it as a position sensitive detector. Recently, a prototype detector has been developed and the signal test is now underway. In this paper, the feature of the accelerator-based neutron sources is outlined and importance of neutron field characterization is discussed. And the developed new low energy neutron spectrometer for the characterization is detailed.

Abstract: In dicotyledonous plants, nicotianamine synthase (NAS) is thought to play a role in the intercellular transport of iron (Fe). Fe is an essential metal for nitrogen-fixing root nodules of legumes, prompting us to characterize the role of the NAS gene in detail. We previously compared gene-expression profiles in ineffective nodules formed on a Lotus japonicus Fix(-) mutant, sen1, with those in wild-type-effective nodules, and showed that expression of an expressed sequence tag (EST) clone encoding an NAS (EC 2.5.1.43) homologue was repressed in the ineffective nodules. In the present study, two EST clones encoding NAS homologues were found in the EST database. We named them LjNAS1 and LjNAS2. Both were detected as single-copy genes in the L. japonicus genome, and conferred NAS activities in transformed Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LjNAS2 was expressed only in nodules, but LjNAS1 was expressed mainly in leaves, stems, and cotyledons. The level of LjNAS2 transcripts was highest in the nodules 24 days after inoculation with Mesorhizobium loti, and was localized in vascular bundles within the nodules. Expression of LjNAS2 was suppressed in ineffective nodules formed on Fix(-) mutants other than sen1. By contrast, nitrogenase activities of nodules were not influenced in LjNAS2-suppressed plants. We discuss the role of LjNAS2 from the aspect of Fe translocation in nodules.

Abstract: Summary. Background: Tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) is a physiological protease inhibitor that inhibits the initial reactions of the extrinsic blood coagulation pathway. Most TFPI in human plasma is associated with lipoproteins; however, the most functionally active form is thought to be the free, full-length form (f-pTFPI). Cell culture derived TFPI and recombinant TFPI (rTFPI) exhibit variations in their respective anticoagulant activity, which may be caused by post-translational modifications, such as the frequent differences in sugar chain structures among recombinant proteins. Sugar chain structures in rTFPI expressed in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells have been reported previously, but those of plasma TFPI have not been. Objectives: To purify f-pTFPI and analyze the sugar chain structures. Results and conclusion: f-pTFPI was purified to homogeneity from blood plasma using a combination of anion-exchange, heparin affinity, immunoaffinity, and reversed-phase chromatographies, resulting in a yield of 76%. f-pTFPI showed a partially phosphorylated glycoprotein comprising a total of 276 amino acids by peptide mapping. The sugar chain structures were analyzed by two-dimensional sugar mapping combined with exoglycosidase digestion of the pyridylamino sugar chains and the following results were obtained. (Sialyl) Galβ1-3GalNAc was linked to Thr175, partially to Thr14 and Ser174; sialyl complex-type sugar chains to Asn117 and Asn167, whereas Asn228 was not glycosylated. Neuraminidase-resistant acidic sugar chains including sulfated sugar chains were not observed significantly. The protease inhibitory activities of f-pTFPI towards activated factor (F) X and tissue factor-activated FVII complex were identical to those of full-length rTFPI expressed in CHO cells.

A time-varying reference signal is realized as a random process generated by an auto-regressive (AR) model, which is identifed by a recursive algorithm. Abstract: Conducting polymer polythiophene (PT) films incorporated with copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) or fullerene C60 or both molecules together were synthesized and characterized by photoluminescence measurements. The hybrid materials were also modified by electrochemically applying positive or negative voltage or by adding the donor molecule tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) or acceptor molecule tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) into the hybrid films and were investigated by photoluminescence measurements in order to obtain fundamental photoluminescence properties of the hybrid materials. The molecule was injected by electrochemical and diffusion methods. A photoluminescence emission peak was observed at 594 nm in the case of a PT sample doped with CuPc by the diffusion method. Abstract: An SUS316L stainless steel separator was coated with amorphous carbon by using an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma sputtering technique, and used in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). Characteristics of this carbon film were investigated with Raman spectroscopy and XPS. Quantitative depth profiles and chemical depth profiles of the deposited carbon layer were measured with GD-OES and XPS, respectively. The contact resistivity between a carbon paper and the carbon coated SUS316L steel was also measured. The performance of PEFC single cells assembled with carbon coated SUS316L separators, uncoated SUS316L separators, and conventional carbon separators were compared. The results revealed that an assembled PEFC having carbon coated SUS316L separators provided better performance than one having uncoated SUS316L, and the PEFC showed comparable performance to one having conventional carbon separators.

Abstract: Silicon dioxide film was deposited on Si substrate by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition using a monopole antenna plasma source. Electron density was measured by a plasma absorption probe with and without a grounded plate close to monopole antennas. A high electron density was obtained with the grounded plate. The typical electron density of the monopole antenna plasma source was ∼ 3 × 10 10 cm − 3 at a position of 13 mm away from the antenna in oxygen plasma. The electron density rapidly decreased along the distance from the monopole antenna. Since the deposition rate and breakdown field were improved with the higher electron density, the grounded plate improved the performance of the SiO 2 film deposition.

Abstract: The thickness uniformity of an quartz crystal wafer is an essential requirement for improving the productivity of a quartz resonator because it prevents frequency adjustment after dicing the wafer. In this paper, chemical finishing utilizing a localized atmospheric pressure plasma is proposed to correct the thickness deviation of a quartz crystal wafer. In this process, free figuring without mask patterning can be realized by the numerically controlled scanning of a localized removal area. The thickness uniformity of a commercially available quartz wafer is improved from 250 to 50 nm only by one correction without subsurface damage.

Abstract: Core-collapse supernovae are a promising potential high-energy neutrino source class. We test for correlation between seven years of IceCube neutrino data and a catalog containing more than 1000 core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and IIP and a sample of stripped-envelope supernovae. We search both for neutrino emission from individual supernovae as well as for combined emission from the whole supernova sample, through a stacking analysis. No significant spatial or temporal correlation of neutrinos with the cataloged supernovae was found. All scenarios were tested against the background expectation and together yield an overall p -value of 93%; therefore, they show consistency with the background only. The derived upper limits on the total energy emitted in neutrinos are 1.7 × 10 ^48 erg for stripped-envelope supernovae, 2.8 × 10 ^48 erg for type IIP, and 1.3 × 10 ^49 erg for type IIn SNe, the latter disfavoring models with optimistic assumptions for neutrino production in interacting supernovae. We conclude that stripped-envelope supernovae and supernovae of type IIn do not contribute more than 14.6% and 33.9%, respectively, to the diffuse neutrino flux in the energy range of about [ 10 ^3 –10 ^5 ] GeV, assuming that the neutrino energy spectrum follows a power-law with an index of −2.5. Under the same assumption, we can only constrain the contribution of type IIP SNe to no more than 59.9%. Thus, core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and stripped-envelope supernovae can both be ruled out as the dominant source of the diffuse neutrino flux under the given assumptions.

Abstract: Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have long been considered a possible source of high-energy neutrinos. While no correlations have yet been detected between high-energy neutrinos and GRBs, the recent observation of GRB 221009A—the brightest GRB observed by Fermi-GBM to date and the first one to be observed above an energy of 10 TeV—provides a unique opportunity to test for hadronic emission. In this paper, we leverage the wide energy range of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A. We find no significant deviation from background expectation across event samples ranging from MeV to PeV energies, placing stringent upper limits on the neutrino emission from this source.

EUV optics require figure accuracy and surface roughness of 0.1 nm root mean square (rms) or better. EEM using a rotating-sphere head is demonstrated to achieve this level of surface smoothness after a certain depth of removal dependent on the material being processed. In tests of continuous machining for 12 h, no increase in surface roughness is observed, demonstrating the high temporal stability of this noncontact processing method. EEM using a rotating-sphere head is thus confirmed to have sufficient figuring and smoothing capability for the fabrication of EUV optics. © 2007 American Vacuum Society.

Abstract: Pure anatase-TiO 2 and/or titanate nanotubes, photochromic Ag loaded titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) and AgCl loaded titanate nanotubes were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The pH value during the neutralization process plays a crucial role in controlling the morphology and composition of the nanotubes. All these nanotubes were confirmed by XRD, TEM, EDS and XPS analysis. Most of them have open ends with inner/outer diameters of 7/10 nm and several hundred nanometers in length. For photochromic behavior in the case of AgCl–titanate nanotubes, the red color can be clearly observed after irradiation by red light, while the yellow, green, blue ones displayed pale black after the corresponding irradiation. On the other hand, Ag loaded TNT sample exhibited multicolor photochromism corresponding to that of incident light. The photoreduction of silver halide to Ag particle in the case of loaded AgCl particles and a particle-plasmon-assisted electron transfer from Ag nanoparticles to TiO 2 in the case of loaded Ag particles are considered to be responsible for this different behavior.

The design of the on-chip voltage sampling probe is based on a simple ring oscillator, which converts local supply difference between VDD and VSS to oscillation-frequency deviation. High measurement accuracy is achieved by off-chip digital signal processing and calibration. This scheme was used to successfully measure 69-mV local supply noise with 5-ns time resolution in a 3G-cellular-phone processor. It will thus help in designing power-supply networks and in visually verifying the quality of a power supply

192. A Case of Mesenteric Desmoid Tumor of the Small Intestine Associated with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)

Abstract: 症例は52歳, 女性. 平成9年4月に直腸癌合併家族性大腸腺腫症 (以下FAP) にて大腸全摘, 小腸瘻造設の手術歴がある. 平成18年5月, 腹部腫瘤, 腹痛を主訴に受診し, 腹部CT・MRIで精査を行ったところ, 右腹腔内に約15cmの腫瘤を認め, FAP患者の大腸全摘後であることから, デスモイド腫瘍を疑った. 1カ月の経過観察中に急速な増大傾向を認めたため, 同年6月に手術を行ったところ, 腸間膜原発と考える約20cmの腫瘍を認め, 小腸を約150cm合併切除し摘出した. 病理組織所見で腫瘍は線維芽細胞と膠原線維で構成されており, 悪性所見は認めず, デスモイド腫瘍と診断された. 術後, 短腸症候群などを合併したが改善を認め, 術後47病日に退院した. デスモイド腫瘍はFAPにおいて比較的高率に認められ, 重要な腸管外徴候の一つであるが, 大腸全摘術後9年目に発症することは少ないと考えられ, 文献的考察を加え報告する.

Abstract: This paper proposes a new method for the multi-inputs multi-outputs (MIMO) system with the multiple time delays. Control design method is generalized minimum variance control (GMVC). The following states of time delays are concluded in one sampling interval by selecting sampling period. The states between the sampling period can be controlled by using the modified Z transform. It is used the modified Z transform after deciding the sampling period. As a result, the control system can be designed in consideration of multiple time delays. Finally in order to show effectiveness of the proposal GMVC, simulation results are illustrated

196. Missense variants of the alanine: glyoxylate aminotransferase 2 gene correlated with carotid atherosclerosis in the Japanese population

Abstract: Alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase 2 (AGXT2; EC 2.6.1.44) degrades asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), a competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase. Increased ADMA, reduced NO, and hypertension are shown in Agxt2 knockout mice. There are four single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs37370, rs37369, rs180749, and rs16899974) with which AGXT2 activity changes in humans and may be related to vulnerability of vascular sclerosis. To examine the relationship between them, we studied the functional haplotypes of the AGXT2 gene and decided their relationship with arteriosclerotic changes via carotid intima-media thickness (carotid IMT) in Japanese subjects. Genotyping of those polymorphisms and the carotid IMT in 1,426 Japanese subjects were then evaluated. Subjects with C-A-A-A haplotype (rs37370, rs37369, rs180749, rs16899974) showed low AGXT2 activity (P0.0001; Pearsons correlation coefficients: 0.497). The C-A-A-A haplotype was significantly associated with mean carotid IMT (P=0.049) and max carotid IMT (P=0.004). Subjects with two C-A-A-A haplotypes exhibited thicker mean carotid IMT (P=0.022) and maximum carotid IMT (P=0.001). In multiple regression analysis, subjects with two C-A-A-A haplotypes were independently and positively associated with mean carotid IMT (P=0.02) and maximum IMT (P=0.005) after correction. There was a significant correlation between the functional variants in the AGXT2 gene and carotid IMT in Japanese. The AGXT2 genotype may be an important factor underlying atherosclerosis.

Abstract: We performed a 4.5-month multi-instrument campaign (from radio to VHE gamma rays) on Mrk421 between January 2009 and June 2009, which included VLBA, F-GAMMA, GASP-WEBT, Swift, RXTE, Fermi-LAT, MAGIC, and Whipple, among other instruments and collaborations. Mrk421 was found in its typical (non-flaring) activity state, with a VHE flux of about half that of the Crab Nebula, yet the light curves show significant variability at all wavelengths, the highest variability being in the X-rays. We determined the power spectral densities (PSD) at most wavelengths and found that all PSDs can be described by power-laws without a break, and with indices consistent with pink/red-noise behavior. We observed a harder-when-brighter behavior in the X-ray spectra and measured a positive correlation between VHE and X-ray fluxes with zero time lag. Such characteristics have been reported many times during flaring activity, but here they are reported for the first time in the non-flaring state. We also observed an overall anti-correlation between optical/UV and X-rays extending over the duration of the campaign. The harder-when-brighter behavior in the X-ray spectra and the measured positive X-ray/VHE correlation during the 2009 multi-wavelength campaign suggests that the physical processes dominating the emission during non-flaring states have similarities with those occurring during flaring activity. In particular, this observation supports leptonic scenarios as being responsible for the emission of Mrk421 during non-flaring activity. Such a temporally extended X-ray/VHE correlation is not driven by any single flaring event, and hence is difficult to explain within the standard hadronic scenarios. The highest variability is observed in the X-ray band, which, within the one-zone synchrotron self-Compton scenario, indicates that the electron energy distribution is most variable at the highest energies., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, 18 pages, 14 figures (v2 has a small modification in the acknowledgments, and also corrects a typo in the field "author" in the metadata)

199. Development of a standing style transfer system 'ABLE' for disabled lower limbs

Abstract: We have developed a standing style transfer system, or "ABLE," for a person with disabled legs. It allows travel in a standing posture even on uneven ground, a standing up motion from a chair, and allows the stairs. ABLE consists of three modules: a pair of telescopic crutches, a powered lower extremity orthosis, and a pair of mobile platforms. We present here the conceptual design of ABLE and the motion of each module. Cooperative operations using the three modules are discussed through simulations. The standing up motion from a chair and ascending the stairs, however, have problems with adaptability to the environment and safety, because it executes the movement that has till now relied on telescopic crutches. To solve these problems, we propose a new motion technique and compare it with the previous one. In this paper, some experimental results are also presented

200. Improving the Pine Wilt Disease Resistance of Cutting-propagated Japanese Black Pine Plantlet Populations by Inoculating Ortets with Pinewood Nematodes

Abstract: クロマツのマツ材線虫病抵抗性クローン (川内ク-290号) の実生苗38個体に対して, マツノザイセンチュウ (島原個体群) を用いて接種検定を行い, 抵抗性個体を15個体選抜した。これら15個体を採穂個体として3年間連続して挿し木を行い, 得られた挿し木苗に島原個体群を接種した結果, 各年における健全率は61～71%と年変動が少なく安定した抵抗性を示した。次に, 12の抵抗性クローンの実生苗18個体を対象に, 島原個体群より強い病原性をもつ線虫2系統 (Ka-4と唐津3) を用いて接種検定を行い, 抵抗性個体群の選抜を行った。選抜された9個体から挿し木を行い, 得られた苗木に強病原性線虫 (唐津3) を接種した結果, 健全率は97.7%ときわめて高かった。このように, マツ材線虫病抵抗性種苗生産において, 強病原性線虫の接種検定により抵抗性をもつ採穂個体群を選抜し, それらから挿し木を行う方法は有効であると考えられた。
