In order to deeply explore coal mine accident causative factors and configuration paths, and prevent coal mine accidents from happening. Taking 40 cases of coal mine accidents as the research objects, we use the grounded theory to identify the causative factors of coal mine accidents, construct a coal mine accident causative model based on the TOE (Technology-Organization-Environment) framework, and apply the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method to find out the configuration paths and the core conditions of the causative factors of coal mine accidents; based on the configuration types and core conditions, recommendations for preventing coal mine accidents are proposed. The results show that only safety management in the organizational factor and unsafe environment in the environmental factor are necessary conditions for the causation of coal mine accidents. There are eight causative configuration paths of coal mine accidents, and safety monitoring dominant, safety management dominant, organizational management integrated, organizational and environmental joint, and safety cognitive deficient concluded based on the core conditions in each configuration paths.

Reconfigurable metasurface, also known as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), with its flexible beamforming, low-cost, and easy industrial deployment characteristics, presents many interesting solutions in wireless application scenarios. This paper presents a sophisticated reconfigurable metasurface architecture that introduces an advanced concept of flexible full-array space-time wavefront manipulation with enhanced dynamic capabilities. The practical 2-bit phase-shifting unit cell on the RIS is distinguished by its ability to maintain four stable phase states, each with 90° differences, and features an insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB across a bandwidth of 200 MHz. All reconfigurable unit cells are equipped with meticulously designed control circuits, governed by an intelligent core composed of multiple Micro-Controller Units (MCUs), enabling rapid control response across the entire RIS array. Owing to the capability of each unit cell on the metasurface to independently switch states, the entire RIS is not limited to controlling general beams with specific directional patterns but also generates beams with more complex structures, including multi-focus 3D spot beams and vortex beams. This development substantially broadens its applicability across various industrial wireless transmission scenarios. Moreover, by leveraging the rapid-respond space-time coding and the full-array independent programmability of the RIS prototyping operating at 10.7 GHz, we have demonstrated that: 1) The implementation of 3D spot beams scanning facilitates dynamic beam tracking and real-time communication under the indoor near-field scenario; 2) The rapid wavefront rotation of vortex beams enables precise modulation of signals within the Doppler domain, showcasing an innovative approach to wireless signal manipulation; 3) The beam steering experiments for blocking users under outdoor far-field scenarios, verifying the beamforming capability of the RIS board.

Abstract Background Radioresistance and lymph node metastasis are common phenotypes of refractory oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). As a result, understanding the mechanism for radioresistance and metastatic progression is urgently needed for the precise management of refractory OSCC. Recently, immunotherapies, e.g. immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), were employed to treat refractory OSCC; however, the lack of predictive biomarkers still limited their therapeutic effectiveness. Methods The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)/Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases and RT-PCR analysis were used to determine absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) expression in OSCC samples. Colony-forming assay and trans-well cultivation was established for estimating AIM2 function in modulating the irradiation resistance and migration ability of OSCC cells, respectively. RT-PCR, Western blot and flow-cytometric analyses were performed to examine AIM2 effects on the expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Luciferase-based reporter assay and site-directed mutagenesis were employed to determine the transcriptional regulatory activity of Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 1 (STAT1) and NF-κB towards the AIM2-triggered PD-L1 expression. Results Here, we found that AIM2 is extensively upregulated in primary tumors compared to the normal adjacent tissues and acts as a poor prognostic marker in OSCC. AIM2 knockdown mitigated, but overexpression promoted, radioresistance, migration and PD-L1 expression via modulating the activity of STAT1/NF-κB in OSCC cell variants. AIM2 upregulation significantly predicted a favorable response in patients receiving ICI treatments. Conclusions Our data unveil AIM2 as a critical factor for promoting radioresistance, metastasis and PD-L1 expression and as a potential biomarker for predicting ICI effectiveness on the refractory OSCC.

Proliferation of neural stem cells is crucial for promoting neuronal regeneration and repairing cerebral infarction damage. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has recently emerged as a tool for inducing endogenous neural stem cell regeneration, but its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we found that repetitive TMS effectively promotes the proliferation of oxygen-glucose deprived neural stem cells. Additionally, repetitive TMS reduced the volume of cerebral infarction in a rat model of ischemic stroke caused by middle cerebral artery occlusion, improved rat cognitive function, and promoted the proliferation of neural stem cells in the ischemic penumbra. RNA-sequencing found that repetitive TMS activated the Wnt signaling pathway in the ischemic penumbra of rats with cerebral ischemia. Furthermore, PCR analysis revealed that repetitive TMS promoted AKT phosphorylation, leading to an increase in mRNA levels of cell cycle-related proteins such as Cdk2 and Cdk4. This effect was also associated with activation of the glycogen synthase kinase 3β/β-catenin signaling pathway, which ultimately promotes the proliferation of neural stem cells. Subsequently, we validated the effect of repetitive TMS on AKT phosphorylation. We found that repetitive TMS promoted Ca2+ influx into neural stem cells by activating the P2 calcium channel/calmodulin pathway, thereby promoting AKT phosphorylation and activating the glycogen synthase kinase 3β/β-catenin pathway. These findings indicate that repetitive TMS can promote the proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells through a Ca2+ influx-dependent phosphorylated AKT/glycogen synthase kinase 3β/β-catenin signaling pathway. This study has produced pioneering results on the intrinsic mechanism of repetitive TMS to promote neural function recovery after ischemic stroke. These results provide a strong scientific foundation for the clinical application of repetitive TMS. Moreover, repetitive TMS treatment may not only be an efficient and potential approach to support neurogenesis for further therapeutic applications, but also provide an effective platform for the expansion of neural stem cells.

Abstract Nanochannel membranes have demonstrated remarkable potential for osmotic energy harvesting; however, their efficiency in practical high-salinity systems is hindered by reduced ion selectivity. Here, we propose a dual-separation transport strategy by constructing a two-dimensional (2D) vermiculite (VMT)-based heterogeneous nanofluidic system via an eco-friendly and scalable method. The cations are initially separated and enriched in micropores of substrates during the transmembrane diffusion, followed by secondary precise sieving in ultra-thin VMT laminates with high ion flux. Resultantly, our nanofluidic system demonstrates efficient osmotic energy harvesting performance, especially in hypersaline environment. Notably, we achieve a maximum power density of 33.76 W m−2, a 6.2-fold improvement with a ten-fold increase in salinity gradient, surpassing state-of-the-art nanochannel membranes under challenging conditions. Additionally, we confirm practical hypersaline osmotic power generation using various natural salt-lake brines, achieving a power density of 25.9 W m−2. This work triggers the hopes for practical blue energy conversion using advanced nanoarchitecture.

Abstract The naturally occurring bisexual cone of gymnosperms has long been considered a possible intermediate stage in the origin of flowers, but the mechanisms governing bisexual cone formation remain largely elusive. Here, we employed transcriptomic and DNA methylomic analyses, together with hormone measurement, to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying bisexual cone development in the conifer Picea crassifolia. Our study reveals a “bisexual” expression profile in bisexual cones, especially in expression patterns of B-class, C-class and LEAFY genes, supporting the out of male model. GGM7 could be essential for initiating bisexual cones. DNA methylation reconfiguration in bisexual cones affects the expression of key genes in cone development, including PcDAL12, PcDAL10, PcNEEDLY, and PcHDG5. Auxin likely plays an important role in the development of female structures of bisexual cones. This study unveils the potential mechanisms responsible for bisexual cone formation in conifers and may shed light on the evolution of bisexuality.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing widespread lockdown measures have had a negative impact on the mental health of children and adolescents. We thus conducted a meta-analysis of the worldwide prevalence of sleep disturbances in children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. We performed a systematic literature search of the major international (PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science) and Chinese (Chinese Nation Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and WANFANG) databases from their commencement dates to 27 December 2022. Altogether, 57 articles covering 206,601 participants were included in the meta-analysis. The overall prevalence of sleep disturbances was 34.0% (95% confidence interval (CI): 28–41%). The prevalence of parent-reported sleep disturbances during the COVID-19 pandemic was significantly higher than that of self-reported (p = 0.005) sleep disturbances. Abstract Objective ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a time-sensitive emergency. This study screened the favorable factors for the survival of STEMI patients with medium- and high-risk thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) scores. Methods According to the TIMI scores at admission, 433 STEMI patients were retrospectively and consecutively selected and allocated into low-/medium-/high-risk groups, with their general information/blood routine/biochemical indicators/coagulation indicators documented. The factors influencing the in-hospital survival of STEMI patients were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Moreover, the predictive value of favorable factors was analyzed by receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, and patients were assigned into high/low level groups based on the cut-off value of these factors, with their in-hospital survival rates compared. Results The in-hospital survival rate of the medium-/high-risk groups was lower than that of the low-risk group. Emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), lymphocyte (LYM), total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), and sodium (Na) were independent favorable factors for in-hospital survival in the medium-/high-risk groups. Besides, LYM > 1.275 × 109/L, TP > 60.25 g/L, ALB > 34.55 g/L, and Na > 137.9 mmo1/L had auxiliary predictive value for the survival of STEMI patients with medium-/high-risk TIMI scores. Patients with high levels of LYM, TP, ALB, and Na exhibited higher in-hospital survival rates than patients with low levels. Conclusion For STEMI patients with medium- and high-risk TIMI scores, accepting emergency PCI and normal levels of LYM, TP, ALB, and Na were more conducive to in-hospital survival.

Abstract Accurate navigation and targeting are critical for neurological interventions including biopsy and deep brain stimulation. Real-time image guidance further improves surgical planning and MRI is ideally suited for both pre- and intra-operative imaging. However, balancing spatial and temporal resolution is a major challenge for real-time interventional MRI (i-MRI). Here, we proposed a deep unrolled neural network, dubbed as LSFP-Net, for real-time i-MRI reconstruction. By integrating LSFP-Net and a custom-designed, MR-compatible interventional device into a 3 T MRI scanner, a real-time MRI-guided brain intervention system is proposed. The performance of the system was evaluated using phantom and cadaver studies. 2D/3D real-time i-MRI was achieved with temporal resolutions of 80/732.8 ms, latencies of 0.4/3.66 s including data communication, processing and reconstruction time, and in-plane spatial resolution of 1 × 1 mm2. The results demonstrated that the proposed method enables real-time monitoring of the remote-controlled brain intervention, and showed the potential to be readily integrated into diagnostic scanners for image-guided neurosurgery.

Abstract Studies on post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) among mental health professionals (MHPs) are limited, particularly since restrictions due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been lifted such as the recent termination of China’s Dynamic Zero-COVID Policy. The current study filled this gap by exploring the prevalence, correlates, and network structure of PTSS as well as its association with suicidality from a network analysis perspective. A cross-sectional, national survey was conducted using a convenience sampling method on MHPs between January 22 and February 10, 2023. PTSS were assessed using the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Civilian version, while suicidality was assessed using standardized questions related to ideation, plans, and attempts. Univariate and multivariate analyses examined correlates of PTSS. Network analysis explored the structure of PTSS and suicidality. The centrality index of “Expected influence” was used to identify the most central symptoms in the network, reflecting the relative importance of each node in the network. The “flow” function was adopted to identify specific symptoms that were directly associated with suicidality. A total of 10,647 MHPs were included. Greenscaping, a key sustainable practice, helps cities combat rising temperatures and climate change. Urban parks, a pivotal greenscaping element, mitigate the urban heat island (UHI) effect. In this study, we utilized high-resolution remote sensing imagery (GF-2 and Landsat 8, 9) and in situ measurements to analyze the seasonal thermal regulation of different park types in Zhengzhou, China. We calculated vegetation characteristic indices (VCIs) and landscape patterns (LMs) and employed boosted regression tree models to explore their relative contributions to land surface temperature (LST) across different seasons. Our findings revealed that urban parks lowered temperatures by 0.65 °C, 1.41 °C, and 2.84 °C in spring, summer, and autumn, respectively, but raised them by 1.92 °C in winter. Amusement parks, comprehensive parks, large parks, and water-themed parks had significantly lower LSTs. The VCI significantly influenced LST in autumn, with trees having a stronger cooling effect than shrubs. LMs showed a more prominent effect than VCIs on LST during spring, summer, and winter. Parks with longer perimeters, larger and more dispersed green patches, higher plant species richness, higher vegetation heights, and larger canopies were associated with more efficient thermal reduction in an urban setting. The novelty of this study lies in its detailed analysis of the seasonal thermal regulation effects of different types of urban parks, providing new insights for more effective urban greenspace planning and management. Our findings assist urban managers in mitigating the urban surface heat effect through more effective urban greenspace planning, vegetation community design, and maintenance, thereby enhancing cities’ potential resilience to climate change.

ObjectiveHealth behavior was conducive to control the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic. This study aimed to determine the differences in health behaviors and related factors among rural and urban residents in China.MethodsFrom February 14 to 22, 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic in China, a total of 2449 participants (1783 (72.81%) urban residents and 666 (27.19%) rural residents) were recruited by snowball sampling on WeChat and QQ social platforms, both owned by Tencent. Data were collected through the Web-questionnaire guided by an information-motivation-behavioral skills model. The multiple-group structural equation model was applied to analyze the factors.ResultsRural residents had lower health behavior scores than urban residents, even after adjusting demographic characteristics (33.86 vs 34.29, P = 0.042; total score was 40). Motivational, behavioral skills, and stress had direct positive and negative influences on health behaviors of urban and rural residents. Information and positive perception of interventions had direct effects on health behaviors in rural residents, but not in urban residents. All the factors were mediated by behavioral skills in rural and urban residents.ConclusionsThis study suggests that the government should pay attention to substantial rural and urban disparities and implement different COVID-19 prevention and intervention policies for health behaviors targeting rural and urban residents.

Internationalisation of medical education is critical under globalisation. Using micro-data from a medical university, this study launches a longitudinal quantitative study on students' outward mobility to identify the international level of medical education in China. The number of student participation in cross-border programmes is the index to the character of mobility. Descriptive statistics was applied using Microsoft Excel. The results showed a rising tendency of medical students' outward mobility however a low level. Undergraduates were more likely to participate in outward activities than graduate students. They demonstrated greater interest in short-term programmes than long-term course studies and research programmes. Compared with the US and the UK, traditional destinations like Australia and other European countries were not as popular. Developed countries and regions in Asia were emerging destinations, while developing countries were ignored. University played a central role in financing students' outward mobility.
