This study is intended to explore a complementary relationship between instructional systems design (ISD) and project management in an attempt to build a plausible case for integrating project management as a distinct course in the core of the graduate instructional systems design programs. It is argued that ISD and project management should form a symbiosis from a curriculum perspective, in a hope for the prepared instructional designers to create values for customers. An integrated view of ISD and project management is proposed, using three concepts of project management as a reasonable bridge for the integration. Challenges for the proposed view in this position paper are also stated. (Contains 1 figure and 2 footnotes.)

Research indicates that transition education contributes to forming a long-term support to high-school students with disabilities for their adult life. Also, Community-Based Instruction (CBI) which is a preparation of vocational skills and awareness, has its positive influences improvement of self-esteem as result of higher work inclination and employment. A car-washing curriculum of a CBI practice created an "acquisition-rich" environment" with the Scaffolding Theory in one high school located in Taiwan and brought about the mutual connection between the school and a local community. The educational implementation had yielded its benefits because of the emphasis of transition education and CBI. In this case, car-washing as a CBI facilitated student-initiated learning which promoted intellectual disabled students' vocational skills, awareness and self-efficacy and became a critical role between a school and a community.

The current phase of the survey study is intended to investigate college students' perception of instructor integrated use of mobile technology and its relationship with students' affinity for technology and class modes, using 2 years' data (2013 and 2015). Preliminary results with students' technology affinity, class modality, and year seem useful in predicting their perception of instructor-integrated use of mobile technology in the classroom. Of all, the more affinity for technology, the higher demand for the instructional use of mobile technology. Recommendations for researchers and practitioners are provided.

The two purposes of the phase of the investigation described in this article are to: (1) follow up on some of the results of a multiple regression study by Pan, Sivo, and Goldsmith (2016) on learner perceived success in eLearning that is explained by four factors: perceived course management system support by the university (coded, USC), perceived course management system use by instructor (coded, IUC), perceived instructor use of course management system for communications (coded, ICC), and perceived affinity for technology (coded, AFF); and (2) explore plausible patterns of the four stated learner success factors in relation to student-expected, instructor overall integration of mobile technology for the past year (coded, IIT) in support of mLearning student success. Given the notion that student university experience is highly affected by their instructors' integration of technology in the curriculum, as noted in the survey research by Pan et al. (2016), the authors intended to answer this follow-up question, "Which learner group(s) will require more attention of the university administration in optimizing limited resources and creating efficient incentives resulting into a social outcome that is efficient and makes all concerned parties better off?" This is the goal of this study. Three research questions were framed and studied: (1) To what degree do eLearning students' USC, IUC, ICC, and AFF contribute to the most plausible learner profile?; (2) What does the sought learner profile mean in the context of instructor integration of mobile technology in learning (IIT)?; and (3) To what degree do USC, IUC, ICC, AFF, and learner profile predict mobile device ownership? The present stage of the investigation is supposed to benefit university distance education management team and related policy or decision makers.

Sinus macrophages in draining lymph nodes (DLNs) are involved in anti‐tumor immune reactions. CD169 (Sialoadhesin, Siglec‐1) is expressed on sinus macrophages and is considered a surrogate marker for the immunostimulatory phenotype of macrophages. In this study, the significance of sinus macrophages in immunotherapy was evaluated using mouse models. Treatment with anti‐programmed death‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1) antibody suppressed the subcutaneous tumor growth of MC38 and E0771 cells but was not effective against MB49 and LLC tumors. Decreased cytotoxic T‐lymphocyte (CTL) infiltration in tumor tissues and CD169 expression in sinus macrophages were observed in MB49 and LLC cells compared to corresponding parameters in MC38 and E0771 cells. The anti‐tumor effects of the anti‐PD‐L1 antibody on MC38 and E0771 cells were abolished when sinus macrophages in DLNs were depleted, suggesting that sinus macrophages are involved in the therapeutic effect of the anti‐PD‐L1 antibody. Naringin activated sinus macrophages. Naringin inhibited tumor growth in MB49‐ and LLC‐bearing mice but did not affect that in MC38‐ and E0771‐bearing mice. The infiltration of CTLs in tumor tissues and their activation were increased by naringin, and this effect was impaired when sinus macrophages were depleted. Combination therapy with naringin and anti‐PD‐L1 antibody suppressed MB49 tumor growth. In conclusion, CD169‐positive sinus macrophages in DLNs are critical for anti‐tumor immune responses, and naringin suppresses tumor growth by activating CD169‐positive sinus macrophages and anti‐tumor CTL responses. The activation status of sinus macrophages has been suggested to differ among tumor models, and this should be investigated in future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Periodontitis is the main indication for dental extraction and often leads to peri‐implantitis (PI). Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) is an effective means of preserving ridge dimensions after extraction. However, whether PI prevalence is lower after ARP for extraction after periodontitis remains unclear. This study investigated PI after ARP in patients with periodontitis. Materials and Methods: This study explored the 138 dental implants of 113 patients. The reasons for extraction were categorized as periodontitis or nonperiodontitis. All implants were placed at sites treated using ARP. PI was diagnosed on the basis of radiographic bone loss of ≥3 mm, as determined through comparison of standardized bitewing radiographs obtained immediately after insertion with those obtained after at least 6 months. Chi‐square and two‐sample t testing and generalized estimating equations (GEE) logistic regression model were employed to identify risk factors for PI. Statistical significance was indicated by p < 0.05. Results: The overall PI prevalence was 24.6% (n = 34). The GEE univariate logistic regression demonstrated that implant sites and implant types were significantly associated with PI (premolar vs. molar: crude odds ratios [OR] = 5.27, 95% confidence intervals [CI] = 2.15–12.87, p = 0.0003; bone level vs. tissue level: crude OR = 5.08, 95% CI = 2.10–12.24; p = 0.003, respectively). After adjustment for confounding factors, the risks of PI were significantly associated with implant sites (premolar vs. molar: adjusted OR [AOR] = 4.62, 95% CI = 1.74–12.24; p = 0.002) and implant types (bone level vs. tissue level: AOR = 6.46, 95% CI = 1.67–25.02; p = 0.007). The reason for dental extraction—that is, periodontitis or nonperiodontitis—was not significantly associated with PI. Conclusion: ARP reduces the incidence of periodontitis‐related PI at extraction sites. To address the limitations of our study, consistent and prospective randomized controlled trials are warranted. The role of sinus macrophages (SMs) in anticancer immune responses has received considerable interest in recent years, but the types of molecules that are expressed in human SMs have not yet been clarified in detail. We therefore sought to identify dendritic cell (DC)– or macrophage‐related molecules in SMs in human lymph nodes (LNs). SMs are strongly positive for Iba‐1, CD163, CD169, and CD209. CD169 (clone SP216) reacted with almost all SMs, mainly in the cell surface membrane, while CD169 (clone HSn 7D2) reacted with a subpopulation of SMs, mainly in the cytoplasm, with a significant increase observed after IFN‐α stimulation. The immunoreactivity of clone HSn 7D2 was markedly reduced after transfection with small interfering RNA against CD169, while that of clone SP216 was slightly reduced. The induction of CCL8 and CXCL10 messenger RNA (mRNA) expression by IFN‐α was confirmed using cultured macrophages and RT‐qPCR, but fluorescence in situ hybridization did not detect CCL8 and CXCL10 mRNA expression in SMs. Single‐cell RNA sequence data of LNs indicated that the highest level of CXCL10 gene expression occurred in monocytes. In conclusion, we found that CD209, also known as DC‐related molecule, was expressed in human SMs. The heterogeneity observed in CD169 reacted with cone HSn 7D2 and SP216 was potentially due to the modification of CD169 protein by IFN stimulation. Further, no expression of CXCL10 mRNA in SMs suggested that SMs might be resident macrophages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Xin-Ji-Er-Kang (XJEK) is a Chinese herbal formula, which has been reported to exert effective protection against cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension and myocarditis. Methods Cultured human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with angiotensin II (Ang II) and different concentrations of aqueous layer extracts (AqE). Subsequently nitric oxide (NO) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression levels were detected. In addition, fifty Kunming mice were randomized into control, Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), L-NAME+AqE, L-NAME+XJEK and L-NAME+fosinopril treatment groups. Following 8 weeks of treatment, the cardiac hemodynamic index was measured, relaxation of the aorta was examined and pathological changes were observed. Colorimetric analysis and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were applied to determine the relevant indicators in plasma and cardiac tissues. Results The in vitro study results demonstrated that AqE could preserve endothelial function (NO, 21.05 ± 2.03 vs. 8.64 ± 0.59; eNOS, 1.08 ± 0.17 vs.0.73 ± 0.06). In addition, the in vivo results demonstrated that compared with the control group, treatment with AqE could enhance a high hemodynamic state (left ventricular systolic pressure, 116.76 ± 9.96 vs.114.5 ± 15.16), improve endothelial function (NO, 7.98 ± 9.64 vs. 1.66 ± 3.11; eNOS, 19.78 ± 3.18 vs.19.38 ± 3.85), suppress oxidative stress (OS) (superoxide dismutase, 178.17 ± 13.78 vs. 159.38 ± 18.86; malondialdehyde, 0.77 ± 0.13 vs.1.25 ± 0.36) and reverse cardiovascular remodeling. Conclusion Polysaccharide from XJEK exerts protective effects against Ang II-induced injury in HUVECs and L-NAME-induced hypertension in mice and the underlying mechanism may be attributed to improving endothelial dysfunction, OS and the inflammation status in mice.

The soil ground with low moisture content has the mechanical properties of low viscosity and high friction, which have a great influence on the traveling of a tracked vehicle. In this paper, a movement model of the rigid track on low moisture soil is established based on the discrete element method (DEM) simulation. The soil simulation model was verified by the triaxial compression test. The traction simulation of the track under different vertical stress was carried out, and the traction performance of the track was analyzed by combining with the results of the soil bin test. The analysis shows that the tractive effort increases with the increase in vertical stress. The tractive effort distribution of the track is basically the same as the shape of the bottom of the track, and the tractive effort on both sides of the track cannot be ignored. The average error of tractive effort in simulation is 3.94%. DEM simulation can reproduce the mechanical properties and the discontinuous nature of low moisture soil particles under dynamic load, which is suitable for the numerical study of the interaction between the track and soil.

This study proposes a three-layer focusing gradient metasurface for wavefront processing. The structure works in the frequency range of 15–25 GHz and has a central frequency of 19.6 GHz. The metasurface unit is organized in a square and has high-impedance elements that reflect the full range of phase shifts. When the microwave beam is incident on this metasurface, the high-impedance elements modulate the beam according to the gradient arrangement, to realize the focusing effect of the lens, and the efficiency reaches 82%. The simulation results are consistent with the theoretical results.

Aim: Cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction (MI) are currently considered as the leading causes of death and disability. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of Xin-Ji-Er-Kang (XJEK) on kidney injury and renal oxidative stress. In addition, the associated mechanism involved in these processes was examined in an MI model, and particularly focused on the nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor (NRF2)/heme oxygenase‐1 (HO‐1) pathway. Materials and methods: A total of 138 Sprague-Dawley rats were used in the present study. The control group was designated as 0 wk (n = 8). A total of 3 phases (2, 4, 6 wk) of administration were used in the sham-operated groups (sham, n = 10), MI groups (MI, n = 10), MI + XJEK groups (XJEK, n = 10) and MI + fosinopril groups (fosinopril, n = 10). Additional 10 rats were used to evaluate the infarct area. At 2, 4 or 6 wk post-MI, the hemodynamic parameters were monitored, the rats were sacrificed, then blood, heart and renal tissues were collected for furtherly analysis. Results: The results indicated that XJEK administration continuously ameliorated renal hypertrophy index, blood urea nitrogen and cystatin C concentrations. XJEK further improved post-MI cardiac function by limiting scar formation and caused a downregulation in the hemodynamic parameters at the end of 2 and 4 wk. The hemodynamic parameters were upregulated after 6 wk treatment with XJEKcompared with those noted in the MI groups. Similarly, XJEK treatment for 2 wk potentiated Nrf2 nuclear translocation and HO-1 expression and inhibited the deficiency of nuclear Nrf2 and HO-1 at 6 wk post-MI compared with that of the MI groups, indicating the attenuation of the renal oxidative stress condition. The levels of malondialdehyde and angiotensin II (Ang II) in plasma and renal tissues, as well as the levels of aldosterone, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, angiotensin II type 1 receptor and NADPH Oxidase-4 in the kidney tissue significantly decreased following XJEK treatment for 6 wk. In addition, the XJEK treatment groups revealed a significant upregulation in the activity of superoxide dismutase and in the total antioxidant capacity activity compared with those noted in the corresponding MI groups. Conclusion: These results demonstrated that progressive nephropathy in MI rats was associated with intrarenal activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Concomitantly, this process was associated with oxidative stress and impaired Nrf2 activation. The improvement in the severity of nephropathy by XJEK in this model may be associated with the reversal of these abnormalities.
