Abstract

Understanding the rat neurochemical connectome is fundamental for exploring neuronal information processing. By using advanced data mining, supervised machine learning, and network analysis, this study integrates over 5 decades of neuroanatomical investigations into a multiscale, multilayer neurochemical connectome of the rat brain. This neurochemical connectivity database (ChemNetDB) is supported by comprehensive systematically-determined receptor distribution maps. The rat connectome has an onion-type structural organization and shares a number of structural features with mesoscale connectomes of mouse and macaque. Furthermore, we demonstrate that extremal values of graph theoretical measures (e.g., degree and betweenness) are associated with evolutionary-conserved deep brain structures such as amygdala, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, dorsal raphe, and lateral hypothalamus, which regulate primitive, yet fundamental functions, such as circadian rhythms, reward, aggression, anxiety, and fear. The ChemNetDB is a freely available resource for systems analysis of motor, sensory, emotional, and cognitive information processing., Author summary The mammalian brain consists of a network of chemically diverse, multiscale, and multilayer neuronal wiring patterns that form the physical infrastructure underlying the processing of motoric, sensory, emotional, and cognitive information. Decades of histological track-tracing studies have generated a set of highly valuable yet disorganized data, which is very hard to retrieve in a hypothesis-free manner. We present an open-access database (ChemNetDB) that organizes over 50 years of neuroanatomical track-tracing and neurochemical measurements from 36,464 rats. This neurochemical connectome is terminologically consistent and shares several network invariants with mouse and macaque cortical networks, suggesting that the mammalian brain exhibits universal structural features. Furthermore, several network measures reflect and confirm the key functional roles of deep subcortical brain areas, which are known to be responsible for primitive, yet essential and evolutionary conserved functions related to survival. ChemNetDB provides the first whole-brain, multiscale, and consistently collated rat connectome database. ChemNetDB also includes neurochemical specificity and represents a powerful tool for in vitro, in vivo, and in silico investigations of brain function and disorders.

Abstract

Diamond is proposed as extraordinary material usable for interdisciplinary fields, especially for optics and photonics. In this contribution we focus on the doping of diamond with erbium as optically active centre. In the theoretical part of study based on DFT simulations we have developed two Er-doped diamond structure models with 0 to 4 carbon vacancies in the vicinity of Er atom and performed geometry optimizations with calculation of cohesive energies and defect formation energies. The theoretical results showed an excellent agreement between the calculated and experimental cohesive energy for the parent diamond. The highest values of cohesive energies and lowest values of defect formation energies were obtained for models with erbium in the substitutional carbon position with 1 or 3 vacancies in the vicinity of erbium atom. From the geometry optimization the structure model with 1 vacancy had an octahedral symmetry whereas the model with 3 vacancies had a coordination of 10 forming a trigonal structure with hexagonal ring. In the experimental part, erbium doped diamond crystal samples were prepared by ion implantation of Er+ ions using ion implantation fluences ranging from 1×1014 ions/cm2 to 5×1015 ions/cm2. The experimental results revealed a high degree of diamond structure damage after the ion implantation process reaching up to 69% of disordered atoms in the samples. The prepared Er-doped diamond samples annealed at the temperatures of 400, 600 and 800 °C in vacuum revealed clear luminescence, where the 〈110〉 cut sample was having approximately 6-7 times higher luminescence intensity than 〈001〉 cut sample with the same ion implantation fluence. The reported results are the first demonstration of the Er luminescence in the single crystal diamond structure for the near-infrared spectral region.

Abstract

Background: Despite the introduction of direct-acting antiviral agents for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, peginterferon alfa/ribavirin remains relevant in many resource-constrained settings. The non-randomized GUARD-C cohort investigated baseline predictors of safety-related dose reductions or discontinuations (sr-RD) and their impact on sustained virologic response (SVR) in patients receiving peginterferon alfa/ribavirin in routine practice. Abstract

This research is about integration of information subsystems from:information system procurement, financial information system, information system security, technical information systems and legal information systems, and about their mutual dependence and close connections in Croatian public companies for energy distribution and supply. Also, herewe research the main goals of procurement information system which must be achieved in every organization because procurement process takes place in every public organization. Based on the model of the business technology matrix their processes can be executed by other companies engaged in similar activities. This research paper describes the timing of the sub processes, also. The timing of sub processes needs to be reduced as much as possible to achieve the planned results at the exit of the sub processes so that the costs of running sub-processes are equal to or lower than they had been so far, but with a higher quality output. We discuss possible threats to the information systems organization, and how to protect electronic information in the process of restoration of electronic data base for the financial information system. At the end the research paper we explain the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing, information security in the event of possible applications of computing in the clouds and activities for technical information system in the flow diagram.

Abstract

Ustekinumab, a monoclonal antibody to the p40 subunit of interleukin-12 and interleukin-23, was evaluated as an intravenous induction therapy in two populations with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease. Ustekinumab was also evaluated as subcutaneous maintenance therapy.We randomly assigned patients to receive a single intravenous dose of ustekinumab (either 130 mg or approximately 6 mg per kilogram of body weight) or placebo in two induction trials. The UNITI-1 trial included 741 patients who met the criteria for primary or secondary nonresponse to tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists or had unacceptable side effects. The UNITI-2 trial included 628 patients in whom conventional therapy failed or unacceptable side effects occurred. Patients who completed these induction trials then participated in IM-UNITI, in which the 397 patients who had a response to ustekinumab were randomly assigned to receive subcutaneous maintenance injections of 90 mg of ustekinumab (either every 8 weeks or every 12 weeks) or placebo. The primary end point for the induction trials was a clinical response at week 6 (defined as a decrease from baseline in the Crohn's Disease Activity Index [CDAI] score of ≥100 points or a CDAI score150). The primary end point for the maintenance trial was remission at week 44 (CDAI score150).The rates of response at week 6 among patients receiving intravenous ustekinumab at a dose of either 130 mg or approximately 6 mg per kilogram were significantly higher than the rates among patients receiving placebo (in UNITI-1, 34.3%, 33.7%, and 21.5%, respectively, with P≤0.003 for both comparisons with placebo; in UNITI-2, 51.7%, 55.5%, and 28.7%, respectively, with P0.001 for both doses). In the groups receiving maintenance doses of ustekinumab every 8 weeks or every 12 weeks, 53.1% and 48.8%, respectively, were in remission at week 44, as compared with 35.9% of those receiving placebo (P=0.005 and P=0.04, respectively). Within each trial, adverse-event rates were similar among treatment groups.Among patients with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease, those receiving intravenous ustekinumab had a significantly higher rate of response than did those receiving placebo. Subcutaneous ustekinumab maintained remission in patients who had a clinical response to induction therapy. Abstract

Hitperm-type rapidly quenched ribbons were submitted to field annealing, both longitudinal field (LF) and transversal field (TF) to the axis of the ribbon. LF annealing yields a reduction of the magnetic anisotropy and results can be explained in the frame of random anisotropy model. A coercivity of 3 A/m is obtained for Fe39Co39Nb6B15Cu1 alloy. The addition of Cu to these Nb-containing Hitperm-type alloys is a key factor to refine the microstructure in order to reach this very low coercivity value. TF annealing produces samples with sheared hysteresis loops suitable for sensor and high frequency applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
