Abstract Different line resistances between battery energy storage systems (BESSs) and the bus cause the problem of state‐of‐charge (SOC) unbalance between the batteries. SOC unbalance brings about battery over‐charge or over‐discharge, which reduces the battery life. This paper proposes an SOC feedback control strategy to achieve both output power sharing and SOC equalization between the BESSs. The average SOC of the batteries is set as the reference of each SOC control loop, and the control objectives are achieved by regulating the output voltage of the energy storage converters. The state space model of the proposed control method is established for stability analysis and control parameter design. The parameters are then designed in detail according to the dynamic and steady‐state performance. Simulation and experiment verified that the proposed control strategy can achieve accurate SOC equalization and output power sharing when the line resistances and the battery capacities are different.

Abstract Background Nursing undergraduates’ academic self-efficacy is a significant factor in determining their learning motivation, cognition, and emotions. It has a significant impact on improving academic performance and achieving learning goals. Methods To explore the mechanism of psychological distress affecting the academic self-efficacy of nursing undergraduates, the generalized anxiety disorder scale-7, patient health questionnaire-9, academic self-efficacy scale, perceived social support scale and mindful attention awareness scale were conducted. Results Model fitness indexes of the structural equation model is good (CMIN/DF = 1.404, RMSEA = 0.042, GFI = 0.977, IFI = 0.977, TLI = 0.954, CFI = 0.975, NFI = 0.923). Structural equation model analysis showed that social support and mindfulness were the mediating variables of psychological distress on academic self-efficacy. Mediating variables accounted for 44% of the total effect value (− 0.3) with a value of − 0.132. Three paths were verified: psychological distress indirectly affected academic self-efficacy through social support (− 0.064); psychological distress indirectly affected academic self-efficacy through mindfulness (− 0.053); psychological distress indirectly affected academic self-efficacy through social support and mindfulness (− 0.015). Conclusions Social support and mindfulness play significant mediating roles in the effect of psychological distress on academic self-efficacy, and the chain mediating role of social support and mindfulness is also significant. Educators may mitigate the impact of psychological distress on academic self-efficacy by enhancing students’ social support and mindfulness.

The family of Cryphonectriaceae (Diaporthales) contains many important tree pathogens and the hosts are wide-ranging. Tree species of Terminalia were widely planted as ornamental trees alongside city roads and villages in southern China. Recently, stem canker and cracked bark were observed on 2–6 year old Terminalia neotaliala and T. mantaly in several nurseries in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, China. Typical conidiomata of Cryphonectriaceae fungi were observed on the surface of the diseased tissue. In this study, we used DNA sequence data (ITS, BT2/BT1, TEF-1α, rpb2) and morphological characteristics to identify the strains from Terminalia trees. Our results showed that isolates obtained in this study represent two species of Aurifilum, one previously described species, A. terminali, and an unknown species, which we described as A. cerciana sp. nov. Pathogenicity tests demonstrated that both A. terminali and A. cerciana were able to infect T. neotaliala and two tested Eucalyptus clones, suggesting the potential for Aurifilum fungi to become new pathogens of Eucalyptus.

Abstract Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) detection remains a significant concern and the sensitivity, selectivity, and detection limit must be balanced at low temperatures. Herein, we utilized a facile solvothermal method to prepare Cu-doped SnO2/rGO nanocomposites that have emerged as promising candidate materials for H2S sensors. Characterization of the Cu-SnO2/rGO was carried out to determine its surface morphology, chemical composition, and crystal defects. The optimal sensor response for 10 ppm H2S was ~1415.7 at 120 °C, which was over 320 times higher than that seen for pristine SnO2 CQDs (R a/R g = 4.4) at 280 °C. Moreover, the sensor material exhibited excellent selectivity, a superior linear working range (R 2 = 0.991, 1–150 ppm), a fast response time (31 s to 2 ppm), and ppb-level H2S detection (R a/R g = 1.26 to 50 ppb) at 120 °C. In addition, the sensor maintained a high performance even at extremely high humidity (90%) and showed outstanding long-term stability. These superb H2S sensing properties were attributed to catalytic sensitization by the Cu dopant and a synergistic effect of the Cu-SnO2 and rGO, which offered abundant active sites for O2 and H2S absorption and accelerated the transfer of electrons/holes.

This paper deals with the Cauchy problem of 3D inhomogeneous incompressible magnetic Bénard equations. Through some time-weighted a priori estimates, we prove the global existence of strong solution provided that the upper boundedness of initial density and initial magnetic field satisfy some smallness condition. Furthermore, we also obtain large time decay rates of the solution.

Abstract Background There is little evidence on whether PM2.5 and ground surface ozone have consistent effects on increased individual medical costs, and there is a lack of evidence on causality in developing countries. Methods This study utilized balanced panel data from 2014, 2016, and 2018 waves of the Chinese Family Panel Study. The Tobit model was developed within a counterfactual causal inference framework, combined with a correlated random effects and control function approach (Tobit-CRE-CF), to explore the causal relationship between long-term exposure to air pollution and medical costs. We also explored whether different air pollutants exhibit comparable effects. Results This study encompassed 8928 participants and assessed various benchmark models, highlighting the potential biases from failing to account for air pollution endogeneity or overlooking respondents without medical costs. Using the Tobit-CRE-CF model, significant effects of air pollutants on increased individual medical costs were identified. Specifically, margin effects for PM2.5 and ground-level ozone signifying that a unit increase in PM2.5 and ground-level ozone results in increased total medical costs of 199.144 and 75.145 RMB for individuals who incurred fees in the previous year, respectively. Conclusions The results imply that long-term exposure to air pollutants contributes to increased medical costs for individuals, offering valuable insights for policymakers aiming to mitigate air pollution’s consequences.

Abstract The continuous increase of electric vehicles is being facilitating the large-scale distributed charging-pile deployment. It is crucial to guarantee normal operation of charging piles, resulting in the importance of diagnosing charging-pile faults. The existing fault-diagnosis approaches were based on physical fault data like mechanical log data and sensor data streams. However, there are other types of fault data, which cannot be used for diagnosis by these existing approaches. This paper aims to fill this gap and consider 8 types of fault data for diagnosing, at least including physical installation error fault, charging-pile mechanical fault, charging-pile program fault, user personal fault, signal fault (offline), pile compatibility fault, charging platform fault, and other faults. We aim to find out how to combine existing feature-extraction and machine learning techniques to make the better diagnosis by conducting experiments on realistic dataset. 4 word embedding models are investigated for feature extraction of fault data, including N-gram, GloVe, Word2vec, and BERT. Moreover, we classify the word embedding results using 10 machine learning classifiers, including Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbor, Multilayer Perceptron, Recurrent Neural Network, AdaBoost, Gradient Boosted Decision Tree, Decision Tree, Extra Tree, and VOTE. Compared with original fault record dataset, we utilize paraphrasing-based data augmentation method to improve the classification accuracy up to 10.40%. Our extensive experiment results reveal that RF classifier combining the GloVe embedding model achieves the best accuracy with acceptable training time. In addition, we discuss the interpretability of RF and GloVe.

Abstract Background Routinely collected health data (RCD) are important resource for exploring drug treatment effects. Adequate reporting of data source profiles may increase the credibility of evidence generated from these data. This study conducted a systematic literature review to evaluate the reporting characteristics of databases used by RCD studies to explore the effects of drug treatment. Methods Observational studies published in 2018 that used RCD to explore the effects of drug treatment were identified by searching PubMed. We categorized eligible reports into two groups by journal impact factor (IF), including the top 5 general medical journals (NEJM, Lancet, JAMA, BMJ and JAMA Internal Medicine) and the other journals. The reporting characteristics of the databases used were described and compared between the two groups and between studies citing and not citing database references. Results A total of 222 studies were included, of which 53 (23.9%) reported that they applied data linkage, 202 (91.0%) reported the type of database, and 211 (95.0%) reported the coverage of the data source. Only 81 (36.5%) studies reported the timeframe of the database. Studies in high-impact journals were more likely to report that they applied data linkage (65.1% vs. 20.2%) and used electronic medical records (EMR) (73.7% vs. 30.0%) and national data sources (77.8% vs. 51.3%) than those published in other medical journals. There were 137/222 (61.7%) cited database references. Studies with database-specific citations had better reporting of the data sources and were more likely to publish in high-impact journals than those without (mean IF, 6.08 vs. 4.09). Conclusions Some deficits were found in the reporting quality of databases in studies that used RCD to explore the effects of drug treatment. Studies citing database-specific references may provide detailed information regarding data source characteristics. The adoption of reporting guidelines and education on their use is urgently needed to promote transparency by research groups.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma is a primary bone malignancy associated with the highest incidence rate. Chemotherapy for osteosarcoma has not substantially changed, and survival of patients with metastatic tumours has reached a plateau. Doxorubicin (DOX) is a broad-spectrum anti-osteosarcoma drug; however, its application is limited due to its high cardiotoxicity. Piperine (PIP) has been verified to drive certain cancer cell death and increases chemosensitivity of DOX. However, the effects of PIP in promoting the chemosensitivity of osteosarcoma to DOX have not been studied. Methods We examined the combined effect of PIP and DOX on U2OS and 143B osteosarcoma cells. CCK-8 assays, scratch assays, flow cytometry analysis, and western blotting were performed. Furthermore, the effect of PIP combined with DOX on osteosarcoma tumours was observed in vivo using nude mice. Results PIP can increase the chemosensitivity of U2OS and 143B cells to DOX. Both in vitro and in vivo results showed the dramatic inhibition of cell proliferation and tumour growth by the combined therapy group compared to monotherapy groups. Apoptosis analysis revealed that PIP augments DOX-induced cell apoptosis by upregulating BAX and P53 expression, as well as reducing Bcl-2 expression. Furthermore, PIP also attenuated the initiation of the PI3K/AKT/GSK-3β signaling pathway in osteosarcoma cells by altering the expression levels of P-AKT, P-PI3K and P-GSK3β. Conclusions This study revealed for the first time that PIP can potentiate the sensitivity and cytotoxicity of DOX during osteosarcoma therapy in vitro and in vivo, which probably achieved by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/GSK-3β signalling pathway.

Abstract The temperature distribution of the tri‐post insulator in a ±500 kV direct current gas‐insulated transmission lines (DC‐GIL) is investigated. The influence of thermal gradient on the electric field characteristics is investigated as well. A horizontally installed GIL model is applied in the simulation. The thermal and electric parameters of the insulator are measured and employed. The temperature results indicate that the gas shows a layered distribution pattern while the insulator shows a radial distribution pattern. The temperature of the upper post is higher. With increasing ambient temperature, the surface temperature increases linearly following the variation of ambient temperature. With increasing load current, the temperature near the conductor shows an obvious increase. With increasing gas pressure, the temperature decreases due to the promotion of convection. Besides, the electric field strength of the insulator surface increases if the surface temperature increases during the variation of operating conditions. And the peak of field strength moves towards the enclosure. After 10 h, the temperature reaches a quasi‐stationary state. Since the thermal gradient affects the distribution of gas density and electric field strength of the insulator, the investigation of temperature characteristics is necessary when evaluating the insulating performance of DC‐GIL with insulators.

Abstract Metabolism is controlled to ensure organismal development and homeostasis. Several mechanisms regulate metabolism, including allosteric control and transcriptional regulation of metabolic enzymes and transporters. So far, metabolism regulation has mostly been described for individual genes and pathways, and the extent of transcriptional regulation of the entire metabolic network remains largely unknown. Here, we find that three‐quarters of all metabolic genes are transcriptionally regulated in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. We find that many annotated metabolic pathways are coexpressed, and we use gene expression data and the iCEL1314 metabolic network model to define coregulated subpathways in an unbiased manner. Using a large gene expression compendium, we determine the conditions where subpathways exhibit strong coexpression. Finally, we develop “WormClust,” a web application that enables a gene‐by‐gene query of genes to view their association with metabolic (sub)‐pathways. Overall, this study sheds light on the ubiquity of transcriptional regulation of metabolism and provides a blueprint for similar studies in other organisms, including humans.

Abstract With the rapid development of social economy, power supply reliability of the distribution network has become particularly important. The distribution network has long been faced with problems such as overvoltage, single‐phase grounding failure and grounding protection. Passive, active, and hybrid arc suppression devices (ASDs) are proposed to solve these problems. Passive ASDs have the advantages of high reliability, low control complexity and good economic benefits, and have been widely used in distribution networks. With the wide application of power electronic components in distribution network, the active part and harmonic part of ground current, which cannot be effectively eliminated by passive ASDs, increase sharply. Therefore, an active arc suppression method is proposed. However, due to the high cost and low reliability of the active equipment, the hybrid ASD has better arc suppression effect. In this paper, the existing ASDs are reviewed, and specific simulation models are established to verify the principle and performance of three different ASDs. The advantages and disadvantages of the three ASDs are compared in detail, and the possible problems and research directions in the future research of arc suppression technology are prospected.

Abstract Following the design demands of the protective switch used in ±800 kV hybrid UHVDC system, a plasma‐triggered‐based protective gas switch (PTGS) is developed by performing the comparative study of its dynamic performance by considering the arc dynamic behaviour induced by the transverse magnetic field (TMF)‐based electrode used in the PTGS. The PTGS‐based electrode, as the core component, is designed with a helical‐slotted structure, the TMF could drive the arc between moving from the electrode centre to the electrode edge and then rotate rapidly along the edge. A 3D magnetohydrodynamic model (MHD) was established to computationally evaluate the effects of electrode structure variation on arc rotation characteristics. The model was verified by comparing the calculation results with experiments performed on the designed PTGS prototype. A comprehensive evaluation approach was also proposed to support the comparative analysis of the arc dynamic behaviour and estimate the arc‐controlling capability of the designed electrode to further assess the dynamic performance of the designed PTGS. This approach could quantitatively estimate the arc behaviour from a spatial scale, the variation of characterised parameters such as temperature associated with arc behaviour is concerned as well, which reasonably supports the electrode optimum design and the PTGS.

We report a case-series study of 5 patients with Japanese spotted fever from the Three Gorges Area in China, including 1 fatal case. Seroprevalence of Rickettsia japonica was ≈21% among the local population. Our report highlights the emerging potential threat to human health of Japanese spotted fever in the area.

Abstract Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy that targets B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) have great potentials in autoimmune diseases and could be novel therapeutics for relapsed/refractory neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the CT103A, a self-developed BCMA-targeting CAR construct against BCMA, in patients with AQP4-IgG seropositive NMOSD, an ongoing, investigator-initiated, open-label, single-arm, phase 1 clinical trial is conducted at our center. In total, 12 patients were administered with a CAR-BCMA infusion. Ten of the 12 patients dosed were women (83.3%), with a median age of 49.5 years (range, 30–67). were The most common events of grade 3 or higher were hematologic toxic effects. Seven patients (58%) developed infections, but no grade 4 infections occurred. Cytokine release syndrome was reported in all patients with only events of grade 1 or 2 observed. During the follow-up of a median 5.5 months, 11 patients had no relapse; all patients generally reported improvement in disabilities and quality-of-life outcomes; 11 patients’ AQP-4 antibodies in serum showed a downward trend by the cutoff date. CAR T-cell expansion was associated with responses, and persisted more than 6 months post-infusion in 17% of the patients. In summary, CAR T-cell therapy shows a manageable safety profile and therapeutic potentials for patients with relapsed/refractory AQP4-IgG seropositive NMOSD. Another expansion phase is currently underway to determine the safety and efficacy of CAR T-BCMA infusion in patients with other neuro-inflammatory diseases.

Abstract Background Characteristics of airway microbiota might influence asthma status or asthma phenotype. Identifying the airway microbiome can help to investigate its role in the development of asthma phenotypes or small airway function. Methods Bacterial microbiota profiles were analyzed in induced sputum from 31 asthma patients and 12 healthy individuals from Beijing, China. Associations between small airway function and airway microbiomes were examined. Results Composition of sputum microbiota significantly changed with small airway function in asthma patients. Two microbiome-driven clusters were identified and characterized by small airway function and taxa that had linear relationship with small airway functions were identified. Conclusions Our findings confirm that airway microbiota was associated with small airway function in asthma patients.

Abstract Open burning of agricultural residues causes numerous complications including particulate matter pollution in the air, soil degradation, global warming and many more. Since they possess bio-conversion potential, agro-industrial residues including sugarcane bagasse (SCB), rice straw (RS), corncob (CC) and sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB) were chosen for the study. Yeast strains, Candida tropicalis, C. shehatae, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Kluyveromyces marxianus var. marxianus were compared for their production potential of bioethanol and phenylacetylcarbinol (PAC), an intermediate in the manufacture of crucial pharmaceuticals, namely, ephedrine, and pseudoephedrine. Among the substrates and yeasts evaluated, RS cultivated with C. tropicalis produced significantly (p ≤ 0.05) higher ethanol concentration at 15.3 g L−1 after 24 h cultivation. The product per substrate yield (Y eth/s) was 0.38 g g-1 with the volumetric productivity (Q p) of 0.64 g L−1 h−1 and fermentation efficiency of 73.6% based on a theoretical yield of 0.51 g ethanol/g glucose. C. tropicalis grown in RS medium produced 0.303 U mL−1 pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC), a key enzyme that catalyzes the production of PAC, with a specific activity of 0.400 U mg−1 protein after 24 h cultivation. This present study also compared the whole cells biomass of C. tropicalis with its partially purified PDC preparation for PAC biotransformation. The whole cells C. tropicalis PDC at 1.29 U mL−1 produced an overall concentration of 62.3 mM PAC, which was 68.4% higher when compared to partially purified enzyme preparation. The results suggest that the valorization of lignocellulosic residues into bioethanol and PAC will not only aid in mitigating the environmental challenge posed by their surroundings but also has the potential to improve the bioeconomy.

The macroscopic relative motion solid-liquid interface widely exists in the contact motion pairs of machine tools and other mechanical equipment. In order to accurately obtain the tangential contact stiffness and damping parameters, the Savkoor asperity adhesion-sliding friction contact model is used to analyze the contact area and the corresponding tangential force changes of a single pair of solid contact asperity in the four typical phases of contact growth, contact stagnation, crack adhesion and crack propagation. According to the hypothesis of Gaussian distribution of asperity on rough surface, the contact model of single-pair asperities is extended to the whole joint. The tangential contact stiffness and damping models of solid-solid interface in macroscopic relative motion are obtained. For the fluid contact part, the oil film pressure distribution and film thickness are obtained by solving part of the film Reynold’s equation, and then the fluid tangential stiffness and damping model is established. The tangential contact stiffness and damping of the whole solid-liquid interface are obtained by analyzing the stiffness and damping of solid and fluid parts, and the effects of normal load and moving velocity on tangential contact stiffness and damping are obtained by simulation. The results show that the tangential contact stiffness and damping of solid-liquid interface increase with the increase of normal contact load and decrease with the increase of moving velocity.

A cortical plasticity after long-duration single side deafness (SSD) is advocated with neuroimaging evidence while little is known about the short-duration SSDs. In this case-cohort study, we recruited unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) patients and age-, gender-matched health controls (HC), followed by comprehensive neuroimaging analyses. The primary outcome measures were temporal alterations of varied dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) states, neurovascular coupling (NVC) and brain region volume at different stages of SSNHL. The secondary outcome measures were pure-tone audiograms of SSNHL patients before and after treatment. A total of 38 SSNHL patients (21 [55%] male; mean [standard deviation] age, 45.05 [15.83] years) and 44 HC (28 [64%] male; mean [standard deviation] age, 43.55 [12.80] years) were enrolled. SSNHL patients were categorized into subgroups based on the time from disease onset to the initial magnetic resonance imaging scan: early- (n = 16; 1-6 days), intermediate- (n = 9; 7-13 days), and late- stage (n = 13; 14-30 days) groups. We first identified slow state transitions between varied dFNC states at early-stage SSNHL, then revealed the decreased NVC restricted to the auditory cortex at the intermediate- and late-stage SSNHL. Finally, a significantly decreased volume of the left medial superior frontal gyrus (SFGmed) was observed only in the late-stage SSNHL cohort. Furthermore, the volume of the left SFGmed is robustly correlated with both disease duration and patient prognosis. Our study offered neuroimaging evidence for the evolvement from functional to structural brain alterations of SSNHL patients with disease duration less than 1 month, which may explain, from a neuroimaging perspective, why early-stage SSNHL patients have better therapeutic responses and hearing recovery.

ABSTRACTBackground: YKL-40, which is also known as Chitiniase 3-like 1, has been found to be up-regulated in many autoimmune diseases including asthma, systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus, etc. However, the relationship between serum levels of YKL-40 and one another common autoinmmue thyroid disease – Graves’ disease (GD) has not yet been investigated.Objective: The current study was performed to investigate the correlation of serum YKL-40 levels with disease severity of initially diagnosed GD.Methods: A total of 142 newly diagnosed active GD and 137 healthy individuals were enrolled in the study. Methimazole was given to 55 GD patients and then 2-month study of follow-up was performed. A commercial ELISA kit was applied for the detection of YKL-40 in serum. Degree of goiter was assessed according to Pérez’s Grade. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was carried out to detect the diagnostic value of serum YKL-40 with regard to goiter degree. The velocity of the peak systolic blood-flow and the thyroid tissue blood flow (TBF) were examined using Color Flow Doppler ultrasonography (CFDU).Results: The patients with GD exhibited dramatically higher YKL-40 in serum compared to those of healthy controls (606.1 ± 149.8 pg/mL vs. 397.4 ± 95.1 pg/mL, P

Although a significant body of research has shown that married people are healthier and live longer, empirical research on sex differences in the link between marital status and health suggests results are mixed. Moreover, the sex disparities in marital status and health relationships vary across adulthood. The literature on partnership status and measures of ageing is largely focused on older age groups and is limited in its view of early adulthood. Data from waves 2 and 3 (2010–2012) of Understanding Society: UKHLS were used to examine the association of current partnership status with epigenetic age acceleration (AA) assessed with DNA methylation (DNAm) algorithms 'Phenoage' and ' DunedinPACE ' in 3492 participants (aged 16–97). Regression models were estimated separately for men and women, and further stratified by age groups.Divorced/separated and widowed people showed positive age acceleration compared to the married/cohabiting people (reference group). Some sex differences were apparent, especially, among the single and divorced/separated groups. Age differences were also apparent, for example in men, being single was negatively associated with DNAmAA in the youngest group, but positively in the oldest group compared to partnered counterparts.These findings illustrate the importance of partnerships on the ageing process, in particular marital change through divorce and widowhood for positive age acceleration in adults. For single groups, observations were heterogenous by age and sex.

ObjectiveIntermittent energy restriction (IER) is an effective weight loss strategy. However, little is known about the dynamic effects of IER on the brain-gut-microbiome axis.MethodsIn this study, a total of 25 obese individuals successfully lost weight after a 2-month IER intervention. FMRI was used to determine the activity of brain regions. Metagenomic sequencing was performed to identify differentially abundant gut microbes and pathways in from fecal samples.ResultsOur results showed that IER longitudinally reduced the activity of obese-related brain regions at different timepoints, including the inferior frontal orbital gyrus in the cognitive control circuit, the putamen in the emotion and learning circuit, and the anterior cingulate cortex in the sensory circuit. IER longitudinally reduced E. coli abundance across multiple timepoints while elevating the abundance of obesity-related Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Parabacteroides distasonis, and Bacterokles uniformis. Correlation analysis revealed longitudinally correlations between gut bacteria abundance alterations and brain activity changes.ConclusionsThere was dynamical alteration of BGM axis (the communication of E. coli with specific brain regions) during the weight loss under the IER.

As the deepest vertebrate in the ocean, the hadal snailfish (Pseudoliparis swirei), which lives at a depth of 6,000–8,000 m, is a representative case for studying adaptation to extreme environments. Despite some preliminary studies on this species in recent years, including their loss of pigmentation, visual and skeletal calcification genes, and the role of trimethylamine N-oxide in adaptation to high-hydrostatic pressure, it is still unknown how they evolved and why they are among the few vertebrate species that have successfully adapted to the deep-sea environment. Using genomic data from different trenches, we found that the hadal snailfish may have entered and fully adapted to such extreme environments only in the last few million years. Meanwhile, phylogenetic relationships show that they spread into different trenches in the Pacific Ocean within a million years. Comparative genomic analysis has also revealed that the genes associated with perception, circadian rhythms, and metabolism have been extensively modified in the hadal snailfish to adapt to its unique environment. More importantly, the tandem duplication of a gene encoding ferritin significantly increased their tolerance to reactive oxygen species, which may be one of the important factors in their adaptation to high-hydrostatic pressure.

Abstract Cancer of the central nervous system (CNS) can crosstalk systemically and locally in the tumor microenvironment and has become a topic of attention for tumor initiation and advancement. Recently studied neuronal and cancer interaction fundamentally altered the knowledge about glioma and metastases, indicating how cancers invade complex neuronal networks. This review systematically discussed the interactions between neurons and cancers and elucidates new therapeutic avenues. We have overviewed the current understanding of direct or indirect communications of neuronal cells with cancer and the mechanisms associated with cancer invasion. Besides, tumor‐associated neuronal dysfunction and the influence of cancer therapies on the CNS are highlighted. Furthermore, interactions between peripheral nervous system and various cancers have also been discussed separately. Intriguingly and importantly, it cannot be ignored that exosomes could mediate the “wireless communications” between nervous system and cancer. Finally, promising future strategies targeting neuronal–brain tumor interactions were reviewed. A great deal of work remains to be done to elucidate the neuroscience of cancer, and future more research should be directed toward clarifying the precise mechanisms of cancer neuroscience, which hold enormous promise to improve outcomes for a wide range of malignancies.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of cognitive control impairment in patients with schizophrenia (SPs) using electroencephalogram (EEG). Methods A total of 17 SPs and 17 healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study. Sweeping frequency ultrasound (SFU) was used to assist extraction of amur grape (Vitis amurensis) seed (AGS) oil. Extraction conditions and physicochemical properties were optimized and analyzed under different extraction methods. Meanwhile, frequency and time domains were online monitored during SFU assisted extraction of AGS oil. PVDF piezoelectric sensor was used in time domain, and the hydrophone in frequency domain, so as to obtain the time–voltage waveform, signal power, spectrum distribution and other visual models. Physical models of the spatial peak acoustic intensity, charge quantity and work done by electric field force under different ultrasonic conditions were derived. The mathematical model between the work done by electric field force and the spatial peak acoustic intensity under the working state of PVDF piezoelectric sensor was constructed. Results show that the content of AGS oil by SFU assisted extraction was higher than that by organic extraction. Furthermore, the optimal single-frequency was 40 kHz and dual-frequency was 28/33 kHz, and SFU extraction time of 30 min was suitable with higher oil yield of 16.70 % and 16.94 %, respectively. In addition, the selection and combination of SFU also affected the oil oxidation degree. The peak voltage, spatial peak acoustic intensity, signal power and work of electric field force at 28/33 kHz were all higher than those at 40 kHz.

BackgroundTo compare the biomechanical parameters of AO/OTA type A3 distal femoral fractures fixed bilaterally with a bridge combined fixation system (BCFS) and lateral locking compression plate + locking reconstruction plate (LCP + LRP).MethodsTwelve A3 distal femoral fracture models with medial cortical defects of the distal femur were created using synthetic femoral Sawbones. BCFS and LCP + LRP were used for bilateral fixation, with six in each group. Axial compression and torsion tests were performed on the two groups of fracture models to determine their stiffness during axial compression and the Torsional stiffness during torsion tests. Neutrophils play a critical role in the immune response to infection and tissue injury. However, recent studies have shown that neutrophils are a heterogeneous population with distinct subtypes that differ in their functional properties. Moreover, aging can alter neutrophil function and exacerbate immune dysregulation. In this review, we discuss the concept of neutrophil heterogeneity and how it may be affected by aging. We then examine the implications of neutrophil heterogeneity and aging for COVID-19 pathogenesis and wound healing. Specifically, we summarize the evidence for neutrophil involvement in COVID-19 and the potential mechanisms underlying neutrophil recruitment and activation in this disease. We also review the literature on the role of neutrophils in the wound healing process and how aging and neutrophil heterogeneity may impact wound healing outcomes. Finally, we discuss the potential for neutrophil-targeted therapies to improve clinical outcomes in COVID-19 and wound healing.

The photocatalytic technique has drawn far-ranging interests in addressing the current issues; however, its property suffers from the limited visible light response and rapid recombination of carriers. To address these issues, two specific approaches have been proposed to enhance the photocatalytic activity: (1) ultrasound-assisted synthesis has been utilized to prepare photocatalysts, resulting in refined grain size, increased specific surface area, and reduced photogenerated carrier recombination; (2) sonophotocatalysis and piezoelectric enhanced photocatalysis have been developed to accelerate the reaction, which utilizes the synergism between ultrasound and light. On one side, sonophotocatalysis generates cavitation bubbles which induce more reactive radicals for redox reactions. On the other side, ultrasound induces deformation of the piezoelectric material structure, which changes the internal piezoelectric potential and improves the photocatalytic performance. Currently, intensive efforts have been devoted to related research and great progress has been reached with applications in pollutant degradation, new energy production, and other fields. This work starts by elucidating the fundamental concept of ultrasound-assisted photocatalyst synthesis and photocatalysis. Then, the synergistic behavior between ultrasonic and light in ultrasonic-assisted photocatalysis has been thoroughly discussed, including pollutant degradation, water splitting, and bacterial sterilization. Finally, the challenge and outlook are investigated and proposed.

Abstract Despite the numerous unique properties revealed through tribology research on graphene, the development of applications that utilize its rich tribological properties remains a long‐sought goal. In this article, a novel approach for reversible patterning of graphene's frictional properties using out‐of‐plane mechanical tapping is presented. The friction force between the atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip and the graphene film is increased by up to a factor of two, which can be attributed to variations in the interfacial binding strength between the graphene and substrate through the tapping process. The reversible and repeatable frictional properties of graphene make it a promising material for information storage applications with a high storage capacity of ≈1600 GB inch−2, allowing for direct writing and erasing of information, akin to a blackboard. These findings highlight the potential for friction tuning in lamellar materials and emphasize the significance of understanding nanoscale friction on graphene surfaces.

BackgroundNumerous studies have revealed associations between gut microbiota and adipose tissue. However, the specific functional bacterial taxa and their causal relationships with adipose tissue production in different regions of the body remain unclear.MethodsWe conducted a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) study using aggregated data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for gut microbiota and adipose tissue. We employed methods such as inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR Egger, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode to assess the causal relationships between gut microbiota and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) as well as visceral adipose tissue (VAT). Cochran’s Q test, MR-Egger regression intercept analysis, and MR-PRESSO were used to test for heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and outliers of the instrumental variables, respectively. Reverse MR was employed to evaluate the reverse causal relationships between SAT, VAT, and gut microbiota with significant associations.ResultsIVW results demonstrated that Betaproteobacteria were protective factors for SAT production (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.80–0.96, p = 0.005) and VAT production (OR = 0.91, 95% CI: 0.83–0.99, p = 0.030). Various bacterial taxa including Ruminococcaceae UCG002 (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.89–0.99, p = 0.017), Methanobacteria class (OR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.92–1.00, p = 0.029), and Burkholderiales (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.83–0.98, p = 0.012) were associated only with decreased SAT production. Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.02–1.10, p = 0.005), Eubacterium hallii group (OR = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.01–1.15, p = 0.028), Peptococcaceae (OR = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.01–1.17, p = 0.034), and Peptococcus (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.00–1.10, p = 0.047) were risk factors for SAT production. Meanwhile, Eubacterium fissicatena group (OR = 0.95, 95% CI: 0.91–0.99, p = 0.019), Turicibacter (OR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.88–0.99, p = 0.022), and Defluviitaleaceae UCG011 (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.89–0.99, p = 0.024) were protective factors for VAT production. Furthermore, Bacteroidetes (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.01–1.17, p = 0.018), Eubacterium eligens group (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.01–1.19, p = 0.037), Alloprevotella (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.00–1.10, p = 0.038), and Phascolarctobacterium (OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.00–1.15, p = 0.042) were associated with VAT accumulation. Additionally, reverse MR revealed significant associations between SAT, VAT, and Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group (IVW: OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.18–2.09, p = 0.002) as well as Betaproteobacteria (IVW: OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.01–1.29, p = 0.029), both acting as risk factors. Sensitivity analyzes during bidirectional MR did not identify heterogeneity or pleiotropy.ConclusionThis study unveils complex causal relationships between gut microbiota and SAT/VAT, providing novel insights into the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of gut microbiota in obesity and related metabolic disorders.

Citrus crops are affected by many fungal diseases. Among them, Citrus Black Spot caused by the ascomycete Phyllosticta citricarpa is particularly economically damaging wherever it occurs. Many other species of Phyllosticta are described on Citrus, but only P. citricarpa is considered a quarantine pest on the European continent. In order to prevent the introduction of this species into Europe, it is essential to have a detection test which can reliably identify it, and not confuse it with other species present on citrus, notably P. paracitricarpa. The latter taxon has recently been described as very close to P. citricarpa, and most detection tests do not allow to distinguish the two species. In this work, we exploited the genomic data of 37 isolates of Phyllosticta spp. from citrus, firstly to assess their phylogenetic relationships, and secondly to search for genomic regions that allowed the definition of species-specific markers of P. citricarpa. Analysis of 51 concatenated genes separated P. citricarpa and P. paracitricarpa in two phylogenetic clades. A locus was selected to define a hydrolysis probe and primers combination that could be used in real-time PCR for the specific detection of the quarantine species, to the exclusion of all others present on Citrus. This test was then thoroughly validated on a set of strains covering a wide geographical diversity, and on numerous biological samples to demonstrate its reliability for regulatory control. The validation data highlighted the need to check the reliability of the test in advance, when a change of reagents was being considered.

As a frequent hazard, tropical cyclones have a great impact on the social and economic development of China, which is close to the origin of tropical cyclones in the western Pacific Ocean. The primary objective of this study was to construct a comprehensive risk assessment model for tropical cyclone hazards based on natural influencing factors, informing recommendations for hazard prevention and mitigation in affected regions. This research focused on tropical cyclones that made landfall in mainland China and Hainan from 1949 to 2023, utilizing hazard risk theory and classical extreme value theory. The wind speed and rainfall data during the peak cyclone periods (June to October) from 1997 to 2021 gathered from various meteorological stations, as well as altitude and vegetation cover data, were examined. Hierarchical analysis and ArcGIS spatial analysis methods were employed to study the characteristics of the spatiotemporal distribution of landfalling tropical cyclones and the comprehensive risk of tropical cyclone hazards, and the regions of China were delineated according to these methods. The results showed that, during the period from 1949 to 2023, the overall number of landfalling tropical cyclones decreased in a fluctuating manner, while the intensity of the cyclones increased. Furthermore, severe typhoons tended to occur more frequently in the summer than autumn with time, intensifying the challenge to resist short-term hazards. Moreover, the hazard-causing factors in areas affected by tropical cyclones displayed an increasing trend from north to south and from west to east. In detail, the regions sensitive to natural hazards were primarily located in the central part of Liaoning province, Tianjin, central and eastern Hebei province, Shandong province, eastern Henan province, central and northern Anhui province, Jiangsu province, and Shanghai, which are characterized by flat terrain and relatively low vegetation cover. Overall, the comprehensive risk of tropical cyclone hazards showed a geographical distribution that decreases from south to north and from east to west, with coastal cities in provinces such as Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Zhejiang—including Haikou, Zhanjiang, Xiamen, Beihai, and Taizhou—exhibiting the highest levels of risk.

A sustainable bioeconomy in agricultural and agro-industrial production must inevitably involve the sustainable use of agricultural residues through zero-waste processes. Corn cob is considered crucial agricultural waste as 278 and 293 million tons were produced worldwide in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Corn cob hydrolysates, which are abundant in xylose and glucose, could be efficiently utilized for xylitol and ethanol production through the cultivation of recycling the yeast strain Candida magnoliae TISTR 5664 in the single-stage and sequential-stage co-production of these products. The statistically significant maxima (p ≤ 0.05) ethanol concentrations were improved by 7.8% (49.9–51.7 g/L or 91.3–95.6% of the theoretical) from the single stage of ethanol production employing recycled cells and 9.9% (50.9–54.1 g/L or 77.3–83.9% of the theoretical) from the second step of sequential-stage co-production using recycled cells without xylitol accumulation. Conversely, the single-stage xylitol production utilizing recycled cells under microaerobic conditions resulted in a statistically significant lower (p ≤ 0.05) xylitol concentration by two folds relative to the control, while ethanol concentration was elevated by almost double. The statistically significant maximum (p ≤ 0.05) xylitol was achieved at 25.9 g/L (58.6% of the theoretical) when sequential-stage co-production was initiated in the first step with fresh inoculum only and not recycled cells. The sequential-stage co-production of xylitol and ethanol presented the potential for statistically significant improvement (p ≤ 0.05) of both xylitol and ethanol production processes.

In recent years, the C4F7N mixed gas has attracted considerable attention for its outstanding insulation and arc-extinguishing capabilities, positioning it as a potential substitute for sulfur hexafluoride, SF6. However, there remains a limited understanding of the arc-extinguishing and insulation performance of C4F7N/CO2 mixed gas. In addition, there is limited research on high-current breaking in circuit breakers. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the arc characteristics and breaking behavior of 10%C4F7N/90%CO2 and 15%C4F7N/85%CO2 mixed gases using a magnetohydrodynamic model based on the 252kV air pressure circuit breaker. The dynamic characteristics of this mixed gas are compared with pure SF6 under short-circuit current breaking conditions, while analyzing different parameters of the C4F7N configuration. The results indicate that the mixed gas exhibits lower levels in terms of arc temperature, axial diffusion distance and pressure difference at the moment of arc initiation compared to pure SF6. Furthermore, increasing the inflating pressure can effectively enhance the breaking performance of the circuit breaker with 0.6 MPa, making it more suitable. Additionally, increasing the proportion of C4F7N in the mixed gases will cause the arc temperature to rise slightly at the initial arc and current crossing zero, but decrease at the peak current. The core pressure also rises significantly, with a greater pressure difference established in the compressor at moment of arc initiation. This study provides a reference for the design of an environmentally friendly circuit breaker and the selection of the mixed gas ratio.

The beta T-cell receptor (TRB) expressed by beta T cells is essential for foreign antigen recognition. The TRB locus contains a TRBV family that encodes three complementarity determining regions (CDRs). CDR1 is associated with antigen recognition and interactions with MHC molecules. In contrast to domestic pigs, African suids lack a 284-bp segment spanning exons 1 and 2 of the TRBV27 gene that contains a sequence encoding CDR1. In this study, we used the African swine fever virus (ASFV) as an example to investigate the effect of deleting the TRBV27-encoded CDR1 on the resistance of domestic pigs to exotic pathogens. We first successfully generated TRBV27-edited fibroblasts with disruption of the CDR1 sequence using CRISPR/Cas9 technology and used them as donor cells to generate gene-edited pigs via somatic cell nuclear transfer. The TRBV-edited and wild-type pigs were selected for synchronous ASFV infection. White blood cells were significantly reduced in the genetically modified pigs before ASFV infection. The genetically modified and wild-type pigs were susceptible to ASFV and exhibited typical fevers (>40 °C). However, the TRBV27-edited pigs had a higher viral load than the wild-type pigs. Consistent with this, the gene-edited pigs showed more clinical signs than the wild-type pigs. In addition, both groups of pigs died within 10 days and showed similar severe lesions in organs and tissues. Future studies using lower virulence ASFV isolates are needed to determine the relationship between the TRBV27 gene and ASFV infection in pigs over a relatively long period.

Automatic crack segmentation plays an essential role in maintaining the structural health of buildings and infrastructure. Despite the success in fully supervised crack segmentation, the costly pixel-level annotation restricts its application, leading to increased exploration in weakly supervised crack segmentation (WSCS). However, WSCS methods inevitably bring in noisy pseudo-labels, which results in large fluctuations. To address this problem, we propose a novel confidence-aware co-training (CAC) framework for WSCS. This framework aims to iteratively refine pseudo-labels, facilitating the learning of a more robust segmentation model. Specifically, a co-training mechanism is designed and constructs two collaborative networks to learn uncertain crack pixels, from easy to hard. Moreover, the dynamic division strategy is designed to divide the pseudo-labels based on the crack confidence score. Among them, the high-confidence pseudo-labels are utilized to optimize the initialization parameters for the collaborative network, while low-confidence pseudo-labels enrich the diversity of crack samples. Extensive experiments conducted on the Crack500, DeepCrack, and CFD datasets demonstrate that the proposed CAC significantly outperforms other WSCS methods.

Safe, efficacious, and deployable vaccines are urgently needed to control COVID-19 in the large-scale vaccination campaigns. We report here the preclinical studies of an approved protein subunit vaccine against COVID-19, ZF2001, which contains tandem-repeat dimeric receptor-binding domain (RBD) protein with alum-based adjuvant. We assessed vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy in both mice and non-human primates (NHPs). ZF2001 induced high levels of RBD-binding and SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody in both mice and non-human primates, and elicited balanced TH1/TH2 cellular responses in NHPs. Two doses of ZF2001 protected Ad-hACE2-transduced mice against SARS-CoV-2 infection, as detected by reduced viral RNA and relieved lung injuries. In NHPs, vaccination of either 25 μg or 50 μg ZF2001 prevented infection with SARS-CoV-2 in lung, trachea, and bronchi, with milder lung lesions. No evidence of disease enhancement was observed in both animal models. ZF2001 has been approved for emergency use in China, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Columbia. The high safety, immunogenicity, and protection efficacy in both mice and NHPs found in this preclinical study was consistent with the results in human clinical trials.

Plain Englishsummary Marital relationships in China have undergone significant transformations with the rapid industrialization and modernization of the society. The prevalence of divorce in China and worldwide has shown an upward trend in recent years. Divorce and parental marital quality often affect youth health, but its association with youth sexual and reproductive health requires more discussion. This study aimed to investigate the associations between parental marital quality and parental divorce status (marriage or divorce) and a range of youth sexual and reproductive health indicators. Participants included 51,124 students from universities or vocational colleges across all 31 provinces in mainland China. A total of 10.72% of the surveyed students’ parents had divorced. Participants from divorced family rated perceived parental marital quality less than half of the ratings on a 10-point scale of those from intact family (3.22 vs. 7.44). Divorce and lower parental marital quality were separately associated with a higher likelihood of experiencing sexual abuse, high-risk sexual behaviors, and unintended health outcomes among youth. These findings highlight the importance of implementing specific intervention programs to protect children from unharmonious families or divorced families.

Abstract Background and aims Effective traction is an important prerequisite for successful endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The combined orthodontic rubber band (ORB) and clip method was effective in colorectal cancer ESD. To date, the method was not reported in gastric ESD. This study aimed to investigate its efficacy and safety for gastric neoplasms ESD. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data of 118 patients with gastric neoplasms treated by ESD from November 2020 to April 2022, 43 by ORB-ESD and 75 by the conventional ESD. The primary outcome measure was the ESD procedure time. Clinical data on efficacy and safety were also collected and analyzed. Propensity score matching (PSM) matched the patients in both groups. Results PSM successfully matched 31 pairs of patients. The ORB-ESD operation time was shorter (median [interquartile range], 35 [30–48] vs. 49 [40–70] min, P 0.05). Conclusions Compared to the conventional ESD, ORB-ESD significantly reduced the procedure time and increased the dissection speed, proving beneficial to gastric ESD.

In the development of deep resources, blasting fracturing technology is one of the most effective means to improve the permeability of otherwise low-permeability reservoirs, while the pressure rise time of shock wave and the charge structure are the key factors affecting the blasting effect. Thus, this paper first deduces a formula for the pressure rise time, based on which, the blast-induced damage evolution is numerically simulated, and the numerical result is consistent with the existing studies, which verifies the feasibility of the formula. In addition, the influence of decoupling coefficients (K) of different types of explosives (i.e. TNT, emulsion, and ANFO explosives) on the damage range of reservoir blasting is studied. It is found that under the blasting of different types of explosives, the damage evolution law of the reservoir is different, and appropriate explosives should be selected in combination with rock stratum parameters in actual construction. Finally, the increase in permeability and the drainage effect of the reservoir after blasting are quantified by numerical simulations. It is demonstrated the average permeability increment of the reservoir under the action of TNT explosive is the largest, which is 3.08 (K = 4), while that under the action of emulsion explosive and ANFO explosive are 1.49 (K = 2) and 1.17 (K = 3) respectively; and the changes in reservoir permeability and drainage volume are coherent with the range of damage; the greater the range of damage, the greater the reservoir permeability and the greater the drainage efficiency.

Between November 2021 and January 2022, four patients of community-acquired pneumonia were admitted to the hospitals in Lishui city, Zhejiang province, China. Their main clinical manifestations were fever and dry cough as well as radiographic infiltrate, but the empiric antimicrobial therapy or traditional Chinese medicine was not effective for their illness. Clinical specimens from the patients as well as environmental and poultry specimens were collected for the determination of the causative pathogen. The ompA gene and seven housekeeping genes of Chlamydia psittaci were successfully amplified from all the patients, and the sequences of each gene were identical to one another, suggesting that they were infected by the same strain of C. psittaci. A novel strain of C. psittaci (LS strain) was isolated from the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patient 2 and its whole genome was obtained. Phylogenetic analyses based on the whole-genome sequences showed that the isolate is most closely related to the strain (WS/RT/E30) identified as genotype E/B. In addition, The ompA gene and four housekeeping genes of C. psittaci were also amplified from two of four faeces samples of geese at the home of patient 2, and the sequences from geese were 100% identical to those from the patients. Accordingly, these cases could be attributed to a circulating C. psittaci strain of genotype E/B in the local geese. Therefore, there is an urgent need to strengthen the regional surveillance on C. psittaci among poultry and humans for prevention and control of the outbreak of psittacosis in the city.

However, detecting sEV-miRNAs with low expression in clinical samples remains challenging. Herein, we propose a novel electrochemical biosensor using localized DNA tetrahedron-assisted catalytic hairpin assembly (LDT-CHA) for sEV-miRNA determination. The LDT-CHA contained localized DNA tetrahedrons with CHA substrates, leveraging an efficient localized reaction to enable sensitive and rapid sEV-miRNA measurement. Based on the LDT-CHA, the proposed platform can quantitatively detect sEV-miRNA down to 25 aM in 30 min with outstanding specificity. For accurate diagnosis of gastric cancer patients, a combination of LDT-CHA and a panel of four sEV-miRNAs (sEV-miR-1246, sEV-miR-21, sEV-miR-183-5P, and sEV-miR-142-5P) was employed in a gastric cancer cohort. Compared with diagnosis with single sEV-miRNA, the proposed platform demonstrated a higher accuracy of 88.3% for early gastric tumor diagnoses with higher efficiency (AUC: 0.883) and great potential for treatment monitoring. Abstract Nanofibers have a wide range of applications in many fields such as energy generation and storage, environmental sensing and treatment, biomedical and health, thanks to their large specific surface area, excellent flexibility, and superior mechanical properties. With the expansion of application fields and the upgrade of application requirements, there is an inevitable trend of improving the performance and functions of nanofibers. Over the past few decades, numerous studies have demonstrated how nanofibers can be adapted to more complex needs through modifications of their structures, materials, and assembly. Thus, it is necessary to systematically review the field of nanofibers in which new ideas and technologies are emerging. Here we summarize the recent advanced strategies to improve the performances and expand the functions of nanofibers. We first introduce the common methods of preparing nanofibers, then summarize the advances in the field of nanofibers, especially up-to-date strategies for further enhancing their functionalities. We classify these strategies into three categories: design of nanofiber structures, tuning of nanofiber materials, and improvement of nanofibers assemblies. Finally, the optimization methods, materials, application areas, and fabrication methods are summarized, and existing challenges and future research directions are discussed. We hope this review can provide useful guidance for subsequent related work. Graphical abstract

Objective To investigate the prevalence of occult hepatitis C virus infection (OCI) in Shaanxi blood donors and characterize the occult hepatitis C virus in this cohort. Methods Between July and September of 2019, 112, 117, 46, and 75 blood samples were obtained from eligible donors, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) elevated donors(ALT>50 U/L), hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) positive donors, and anti-hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV) positive donors, respectively. Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBMCs) were isolated from all the samples. HCV 5′UTR was amplified from total RNA of PBMCs using reverse transcription nested PCR (RT-Nested PCR) to detect the infection status of OCI in blood donors. HCV RNA core/E2 region was amplified from HCV RNA positive samples with RT-Nested PCR to determine HCV genotypes and subtypes via sequencing. Results Two (2.67%, 2/75) cases of OCI were identified in anti-HCV positive samples, 1(0.85%, 1/117) case of OCI was identified in abnormal ALT samples, and all OCI were genotyped as 1b. OCI was not found in HBsAg positive and eligible blood donors. Conclusions Our findings suggest that OCI does exist among Shaanxi blood donors and that ALT may be useful in diagnosing OCI.

Abstract No fully validated risk-stratification strategies have been established in China where colonoscopies resources are limited. We aimed to develop and validate a fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-based risk-stratification model for colorectal neoplasia (CN); 10,164 individuals were recruited from 175 centers nationwide and were randomly allocated to the derivation (n = 6776) or validation cohort (n = 3388). Multivariate logistic analyses were performed to develop the National Colorectal Polyp Care (NCPC) score, which formed the risk-stratification model along with FIT. The NCPC score was developed from eight independent predicting factors and divided into three levels: low risk (LR 0–14), intermediate risk (IR 15–17), and high risk (HR 18–28). Individuals with IR or HR of NCPC score or FIT+ were classified as increased-risk individuals in the risk-stratification model and were recommended for colonoscopy. The hot deformation behavior of Mg-9.16Gd-3.03Y-1.44Zn-0.61Zr alloy was examined by hot compression experiments at 623–753 K with strain rates 0.1–20 s−1. Flow stress-strain curves developed an Arrhenius-type equation with adjustment for strain. The influence of strain on microstructure evolution was studied by optical microscope. The results showed that with the increase of deformation, LPSO phase broken and kinked and interacted with dislocations to promote nucleation of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) grains. In addition, the effects of temperature and strain rate on DRX during hot compression were examined using electron back-scatter diffraction. The results demonstrated that the volume fraction of DRX grains improved as temperature and strain rate increased. The alloys could adapt to plastic deformation caused mostly by continuous and discontinuous dynamic recrystallization. Transmission electron microscopy was then utilized to observe the phase structure. The dynamic precipitates occurred after hot compression, and the LPSO phase was broken and kinked, which coordinated the plastic deformation. Using the Avrami equation, the DRX dynamic model of the alloy at 0.1 s−1 was established for the first time.
