In this paper, a 100 GHz rectangular waveguide band-pass filter with two transmission zeros symmetrically located at both ends of pass-band is presented. The four-pole filter with two transmission zeros is composed of two dual-mode resonators with unequal width, two WR-10 standard waveguide interfaces, and three groups of round corner inductive irises in series. The filter is designed and analyzed based on the Synthesis and Simplification Theory of coupling matrix, simulated by using commercial full-wave simulation software HFSS, and fabricated using UV Lithography Technology with SU-8 photo-resist. The specifications of the filter are as follows: 100 GHz center frequency with 3.7% fractional bandwidth, the transmission zeros at frequency of 97.75 GHz and 102.75 GHz respectively to improve the out of band rejection, and return loss which is better than −18 dB across the whole pass-band. Results from measurement are in good agreement with simulations considering the inaccuracy of fabrication and measurement. Scleractinian corals are the foundation species of the coral-reef ecosystem. Their calcium carbonate skeletons form extensive structures that are home to millions of species, making coral reefs one of the most diverse ecosystems of our planet. However, our understanding of how reef-building corals have evolved the ability to calcify and become the ecosystem builders they are today is hampered by uncertain relationships within their subclass Hexacorallia. Corallimorpharians have been proposed to originate from a complex scleractinian ancestor that lost the ability to calcify in response to increasing ocean acidification, suggesting the possibility for corals to lose and gain the ability to calcify in response to increasing ocean acidification. Here, we employed a phylogenomic approach using whole-genome data from six hexacorallian species to resolve the evolutionary relationship between reef-building corals and their noncalcifying relatives. Phylogenetic analysis based on 1,421 single-copy orthologs, as well as gene presence/absence and synteny information, converged on the same topologies, showing strong support for scleractinian monophyly and a corallimorpharian sister clade. Our broad phylogenomic approach using sequencebased and sequence-independent analyses provides unambiguous evidence for the monophyly of scleractinian corals and the rejection of corallimorpharians as descendants of a complex coral ancestor. Hotspot analysis was implemented to find regions in the province of Alberta (Canada) with high frequency Cloud to Ground (CG) lightning strikes clustered together. Generally, hotspot regions are located in the central, central east, and south central regions of the study region. About 94% of annual lightning occurred during warm months (June to August) and the daily lightning frequency was influenced by the diurnal heating cycle. The association rule mining technique was used to investigate frequent CG lightning patterns, which were verified by similarity measurement to check the patterns' consistency. The similarity coefficient values indicated that there were high correlations throughout the entire study period. Most wildfires (about 93%) in Alberta occurred in forests, wetland forests, and wetland shrub areas. It was also found that lightning and wildfires occur in two distinct areas: frequent wildfire regions with a high frequency of lightning, and frequent wild-fire regions with a low frequency of lightning. Further, the preference index (PI) revealed locations where the wildfires occurred more frequently than in other class regions. Cytisine is a quinolizidine alkaloid, which has been reported to be among the major bioactive components of Sophora alopecuraides L. Quinolizidine alkaloids have previously been demonstrated to inhibit the proliferation of several types of tumor cells. However, few studies have investigated the effects of cytisine on cancer cells. The present study was performed to further investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying cytisine‑induced apoptosis of HepG2 human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. The results of an MTT assay demonstrated that cytisine inhibited the growth of HepG2 cells in a dose‑dependent manner. In addition, the induction of apoptosis was detected, as determined by morphological observation and flow cytometry. As determined by fluorescence microscopy, apoptotic morphological alterations were detected following cytisine administration. Flow cytometric analyses demonstrated that cytisine induced cytotoxicity through apoptosis‑like mechanisms in HepG2 cells. Furthermore, western blot analysis was performed to investigate the release of cytochrome c (Cyt‑c) and activation of the caspase cascade, and the results indicated that treatment of HepG2 cells with cytisine induced caspase‑dependent apoptosis via the release of Cyt‑c from the mitochondria, upregulation of caspase‑3 and downregulation of pro‑caspase‑3. In this paper, the model of RLP which in the multi-project environment is expanded to the RLPMP using the minimum of the variance of total resource consumption within unit time for all projects as the optimization objective. In order to ensure the optimal individual will not be destroyed by operations such as crossover or variation and still maintain convergence of differential evolution algorithm, we try to introduce the elitist reservation to the differential evolution algorithm. We study localized nonlinear waves on a plane wave background in the multiple self-induced transparency (SIT) system, which describes an important enhancement of the amplification and control of optical waves compared to the single SIT system. A hierarchy of exact multiparametric rational solutions in a compact determinant representation is presented. We demonstrate that this family of solutions contain known rogue wave solutions and unusual W-shaped soliton solutions. State transitions between the fundamental rogue waves and W-shaped solitons as well as higher-order nonlinear superposition modes are revealed in the zero-frequency perturbation region by the suitable choice for the background wavenumber of the electric field component. Particularly, it is found that the multiple SIT system can admit both stationary and nonstationary W-shaped solitons in contrast to the stationary results in the single SIT system. Moreover, the W-shaped soliton complex which is formed by a certain number of fundamental W-shaped solitons with zero phase parameters and its decomposition mechanism in the case of the nonzero phase parameters are shown. This paper investigates the problem of stochastic mean square exponential synchronisation of complex dynamical networks with time-varying delay via pinning control. By applying the Lyapunov method and stochastic analysis, criteria on mean square exponential synchronisation are established under linear feedback pinning control and adaptive feedback pinning control, which depend on the time-varying delay and stochastic perturbation. These results complement and improve the previously known results. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and correctness of the derived theoretical results. Glycyrrhizin, which is a type of perennial leguminous caudex, has been used in various Asian countries, including P.R. China, India and Japan, for thousands of years. The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of glycyrrhizin on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury through oxidative stress, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and inflammatory reactions via high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) expression. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups: Sham; myocardial I/R injury + non-treated; myocardial I/R injury + 2 mg/kg glycyrrhizin; myocardial I/R injury + 4 mg/kg glycyrrhizin; and myocardial I/R injury + 10 mg/kg glycyrrhizin. Pre-treatment with glycyrrhizin significantly reduced infarct size and inhibited creatine kinase, creatine kinase-MB, lactate dehydrogenase and cardiac troponin T activities in rats with myocardial I/R injury. Furthermore, glycyrrhizin treatment significantly suppressed oxidative stress, iNOS protein expression and inflammatory reactions in rats with myocardial I/R injury. Additionally, treatment with glycyrrhizin significantly decreased the release of HMGB1 from the cerebral cortex into the serum in rats with myocardial I/R injury. Notably, glycyrrhizin significantly suppressed p-ERK, p-p38 MAPK and p-c-Jun N-terminal kinase protein expressions, and promoted extracellular signal-regulated kinase protein expression in rats with myocardial I/R injury. Collectively, the present study indicates that the protective effect of glycyrrhizin may reduce myocardial I/R injury through oxidative stress, iNOS and inflammatory reactions, via HMGB1 and MAPK expression. Purple sweet potato color (PSPC), a class of naturally occurring anthocyanins, exhibits beneficial effects on metabolic syndrome. Sustained inflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome. Here we explored the effects of PSPC on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced hepatic inflammation and the mechanisms underlying these effects. Mice were divided into four groups: Control group, HFD group, HFD+ PSPC group, and PSPC group. PSPC was administered by daily oral gavage at doses of 700 mg/kg/day for 20 weeks. Nicotinamide riboside (NR) was used to increase NAD+ levels. Our results showed that PSPC effectively ameliorated obesity and liver injuries in HFD-fed mice. Moreover, PSPC notably blocked hepatic oxidative stress in HFD-treated mice. Furthermore, PSPC dramatically restored NAD+ level to abate endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress) in HFD-treated mouse livers, which was confirmed by NR treatment. Consequently, PSPC remarkably suppressed the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 nuclear translocation and nucleotide oligomerization domain protein1/2 (NOD1/2) signaling in HFD-treated mouse livers. Thereby, PSPC markedly diminished the NLR family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation, ultimately lowering the expressions of inflammation-related genes in HFD-treated mouse livers. Flooding and drought are disadvantageous environmental conditions that induce cytosolic calcium in soybean. To explore the effects of flooding- and drought-induced increases in calcium, a gel-free/label-free proteomic analysis was performed. Cytosolic calcium was decreased by blocking calcium channels in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and plasma membrane under both stresses. Calnexin, protein disulfide isomerase, heat shock proteins and thioredoxin were predominantly affected as the ER proteins in response to calcium, and ER-associated degradation-related proteins of HCP-like superfamily protein were up-regulated under stress exposure and then down-regulated. Glycolysis, fermentation, the tricarboxylic acid cycle and amino acid metabolism were mainly induced as the types of cellular metabolism in response to calcium under both stresses. Pyruvate decarboxylase was increased and decreased under flooding and drought, respectively, and was further decreased by the reduction of cytosolic calcium; however, it was recovered by exogenous calcium under both stresses. Furthermore, pyruvate decarboxylase activity was increased under flooding, but decreased under drought. These results suggest that calcium is involved in protein folding in the ER, and ER-associated degradation might alleviate ER stress during the early stage of both stresses. K439B nickel-based superalloy is a new type of high-temperature material. There is insufficient research on its constitutive equations and numerical modeling of thermal stress. Isothermal tensile experiments of K439B superalloy at different temperatures (20 °C-1,000 °C) and strain rates (1.33×10-3 s-1-5.33×10-3 s-1) were performed by using a Gleeble-3800 simulator. The elastic moduli at different temperatures (20 °C-650 °C) were measured by resonance method. Subsequently, stress-strain curves were measured for K439B superalloy under different conditions. The elastic-viscoplastic constitutive equations were established and the correspongding parameters were solved by employing the Perzyna model. The verification results indicate that the calculated values of the constitutive equations are in good agreement with the experimental values. On this basis, the influence of process parameters on thermal stress was investigated by numerical simulation and orthogonal experimental design. The results of orthogonal experimental design reveal that the cooling mode of casting has a significant influence on the thermal stress, while pouring temperature and preheating temperature of shell mold have minimal impact. The distribution of physical fields under optimal process parameters, determined based on the orthogonal experimental design results, was simulated. The simulation results determine separately the specific positions with maximum values for effective stress, plastic strain, and displacement within the casting. The maximum stress is about 1,000.0 MPa, the plastic strain is about 0.135, and the displacement is about 1.47 mm. Moreover, the distribution states of thermal stress, strain, and displacement are closely related to the distribution of the temperature gradient and cooling rate in the casting. The research would provide a theoretical reference for exploring the stress-strain behavior and numerical modeling of the effective stress of the alloy during the casting process. Aiming at the problem of high loss of oilseed rape combine harvesting cutting platform, this paper combines the biological characteristics of oilseed rape, analyses the way and reason of oilseed rape loss, selects the harvester's forward speed, transverse cutter cutting height and longitudinal cutter cutting speed three factors to influence the loss rate of the cutting platform to carry out the study on the significance of the order of significance of the following: cutting speed > forward speed > cutting height. Through the response surface analysis method, the interaction between the factors was obtained. Through the regression model of the factors affecting the loss rate, the parameter optimisation was carried out with the objective of the lowest loss rate, and the optimal parameter combinations being obtained as follows: the forward speed was 5 km/h, the cutting speed was 1.5 m/s, and the cutting height was 50 cm. The grain structure of ordered block copolymer materials affects their viscoelastic, adhesive, optical, and electrical properties. Depolarized light scattering has proven to be an important method for characterizing this grain structure. In this paper, we use both theory and experiments to demonstrate the relationship between grain structure and depolarized light scattering from ordered block copolymer samples performed with crossed circular polarizers. We model the sample assuming it comprises randomly oriented ellipsoidal grains with optic axes coincident with the ellipsoid axes. We show that the scattering pattern obtained using circularly polarized (CP) light is azimuthally symmetric, in contrast to that obtained using linearly polarized (LP) light which exhibits 4-fold angular modulation. The integrated scattered power in the CP case is twice as large as that in the LP case. By simultaneously fitting CP and LP light scattering data, we obtain robust measures of parameters that characterize grain structures. We compared individual and joint risk-based decision making using the Balloon Analogue Risk Task, with a focus on participants' (160 Chinese men) emotional experience during decision making and their Big Five personality traits as measured by the NEO Five-Factor Inventory. We found that, compared with the individual decision-making process, making a joint decision led to reduced risk taking and increased earnings, and brought a greater sense of control, stronger feelings of achievement and happiness, and a reduced sense of regret for the participants. The Big Five personality traits of the participants were related to their risk-based decision making; participants tended to act differently according to their personality traits during individual and joint decision making. Background: Wild diploid wheat, Triticum urartu (T. urartu) is the progenitor of bread wheat, and understanding its genetic diversity and genome function will provide considerable reference for dissecting genomic information of common wheat. Results: In this study, we investigated the morphological and genetic diversity and population structure of 238 T. urartu accessions collected from different geographic regions. This collection had 19.37 alleles per SSR locus and its polymorphic information content (PIC) value was 0.76, and the PIC and Nei's gene diversity (GD) of high-molecularweight glutenin subunits (HMW-GSs) were 0.86 and 0.88, respectively. UPGMA clustering analysis indicated that the 238 T. urartu accessions could be classified into two subpopulations, of which Cluster I contained accessions from Eastern Mediterranean coast and those from Mesopotamia and Transcaucasia belonged to Cluster II. The wide range of genetic diversity along with the manageable number of accessions makes it one of the best collections for mining valuable genes based on marker-trait association. Significant associations were observed between simple sequence repeats (SSR) or HMW-GSs and six morphological traits: heading date (HD), plant height (PH), spike length (SPL), spikelet number per spike (SPLN), tiller angle (TA) and grain length (GL). Conclusions: Our data demonstrated that SSRs and HMW-GSs were useful markers for identification of beneficial genes controlling important traits in T. urartu, and subsequently for their conservation and future utilization, which may be useful for genetic improvement of the cultivated hexaploid wheat. Background: Little is known about the effects of overall dietary pattern on lead concentration.Objective: We examined the association of overall dietary patterns, derived from a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire, with bone and blood lead concentrations.Methods: These longitudinal analyses included mostly non-Hispanic white, middle-aged-to-elderly men from the Veterans Affairs Normative Aging Study. Long-term lead exposures were measured as tibia and patella lead concentrations by using K-shell-X-ray fluorescence. Short-term lead exposures were measured as blood lead concentrations by using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. Dietary pattern scores were derived by using factor analysis. Linear mixed-effects models were utilized to predict blood lead concentrations among 983 men, aged 44-92 y at baseline, with a total of 3273 observations (during 1987-2008). We constructed linear regression models to determine the relations between dietary patterns and bone lead concentrations among 649 participants with an age range of 49-93 y.Results: Two major dietary patterns were identified: a prudent dietary pattern, characterized by high intakes of fruit, legumes, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, and seafood; and a Western dietary pattern, characterized by high intakes of processed meat, red meat, refined grains, high-fat dairy products, French fries, butter, and eggs. After adjusting for age, smoking status, body mass index, total energy intake, education, occupation, neighborhood-based education and income level, men in the highest tertile of the Western pattern score (compared with the lowest) had 0.91 μg/dL (95% CI: 0.41, 1.42 μg/dL) higher blood lead, 5.96 μg/g (95% CI: 1.76, 10.16 μg/g) higher patella lead, and 3.83 μg/g (95% CI: 0.97, 6.70 μg/g) higher tibia lead. No significant association was detected with the prudent dietary pattern in the adjusted model.Conclusions: These findings suggest that the Western diet is associated with a greater lead body burden among the middle-aged-to-elderly men. In order to recognize indoor scenarios, we extract image features for detecting objects, however, computers can make some unexpected mistakes. After visualizing the histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) features, we find that the world through the eyes of a computer is indeed different from human eyes, which assists researchers to see the reasons that cause a computer to make errors. Additionally, according to the visualization, we notice that the HOG features can obtain rich texture information. However, a large amount of background interference is also introduced. In order to enhance the robustness of the HOG feature, we propose an improved method for suppressing the background interference. On the basis of the original HOG feature, we introduce a principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the principal components of the image colour information. Then, a new hybrid feature descriptor, which is named HOG–PCA (HOGP), is made by deeply fusing these two features. Finally, the HOGP is compared to the state-of-the-art HOG feature descriptor in four scenes under different illumination. In the simulation and experimental tests, the qualitative and quantitative assessments indicate that the visualizing images of the HOGP feature are close to the observation results obtained by human eyes, which is better than the original HOG feature for object detection. Phosphorylated graphene oxides (PGO) were synthesized by a one-pot method and fabricated on the surface of cotton fabrics for the improvement of fire safety. The chemical structure of PGO was characterized by FTIR and XPS. SEM images of the pure and coated cotton fabrics indicated that PGO had better compatibility with water than GO and was more beneficial for self-assembly fabrication than GO. Vertical flame test and cone calorimeter test revealed that flame retardancy of cotton fabrics was obviously improved by PGO based multilayer coating. The plausible flame retardancy mechanism was proposed: PGO with large layered structures could effectively insulate the permeation of oxygen and volatile flammable gases, thereby decreasing the heat release rate; on the other hand, the presence of phosphorus could play an important role in the catalytic charring effect during combustion, which significantly promoted the formation of char residue and then further prevented the permeation of oxygen and pyrolysis products. Cullin 4B (CUL4B) is a scaffold of the Cullin4B-Ring E3 ligase complex (CRL4B) that plays an important role in proteolysis and is implicated in tumorigenesis. Aberrant expression of CUL4B has been reported in various types of human diseases. Recently, studies have shown that CUL4B was overexpressed in a multitude of solid neoplasms and affect the expression of several tumor suppressor genes. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of adiponectin (APN) on macrophage reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) in adiponectin-/- knockout mice (APN-/-mice) and its possible anti-atherosclerotic mechanism. A total of 30 male APN-/-mice were randomly divided into the control group and four intervention groups. The intervention groups were treated with intraperitoneal injections of APN, at doses of 50, 150, 200 and 250 µg/(kg/day), respectively, for 4 weeks. The control group received normal saline. After 4 weeks, serum lipid levels were measured, the degree of severity of atherosclerotic lesions was observed by light microscopy, the 3H-TC (APN-/-mice treated with intraperitoneal injections of 3H-TC-labeled macrophages) radioactivity in serum, liver, and feces, and the expression of ABCA1 mRNA and protein in liver were determined. Compared with the control group, serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoproteins levels in the intervention groups were significantly decreased, while high-density lipoprotein was increased. The severity of aortic atherosclerotic lesions in the intervention groups was milder than in the control group, which had obvious aortic atherosclerotic lesions, large lipid deposition on vessel walls, and the formation of atheromatous plaques. In the intervention groups, serum 3H-TC content was significantly decreased (P<0.05), but the 3H-TC content in liver and feces was significantly increased (P<0.05). The levels of ABCA1 mRNA in liver of the intervention groups were significantly increased in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, APN can promote RCT and intracellular cholesterol efflux by upregulating the expression of ABCA1, to delay the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Achalasia is very uncommon, and rarely does achalasia co-exist with esophageal varices. We present a 62-yearold woman who was diagnosed with both achalasia and esophageal varices in December 2014 and had a past history of hematemesis. The patient's achalasia symptoms' Eckardt score was 9, and her hepatic function was Child-Pugh grade A6. After comprehensive assessment of the patient's health and discussion of the pros and cons of various therapies for achalasia, the patient underwent a peroral endoscopic myotomy. She was symptom-free after the operation and had no recurrence of achalasia symptoms at 20-month follow-up. No adverse events were reported. Changes of glaciers and glacial lakes and their causes were examined in the Hengduan Shan from 1990 to 2014, based on Landsat TM/ETM+/OLI images. A total glacier area of 1298.8 ± 62.1 km2 and glacial lake area of 255.8 ± 31.6 km were inventoried in 2014. The area of glaciers declined at an average rate of -0.40 ± 0.26% a-1, while glacial lakes expanded at average rate of +0.12 ± 0.03% a-1 over the past 24 years. These changes probably resulted from an observable temperature increase and slight precipitation increase. A 'corridor-barrier' effect formed by the longitudinal range-gorge terrain may have had major impacts on the distributions and changes of glaciers and glacial lakes. The Ningjing-Yunling Shan, where glaciers and glacial lakes are sparsely distributed, are an important geographic transition line in the Hengduan Shan because of the barrier effect of the mountain ranges against moisture from the southwest. In contrast, between the south and north, there were small differences with respect to the distributions and changes of glaciers and glacial lakes, owing to a north-south corridor effect for water and heat transport and diffusion through the longitudinal gorges in the Hengduan Shan. Classical least squares (CLS) regression is a popular multivariate statistical method used frequently for quantitative analysis using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry. Classical least squares provides the best unbiased estimator for uncorrelated residual errors with zero mean and equal variance. However, the noise in FT-IR spectra, which accounts for a large portion of the residual errors, is heteroscedastic. Thus, if this noise with zero mean dominates in the residual errors, the weighted least squares (WLS) regression method described in this paper is a better estimator than CLS. However, if bias errors, such as the residual baseline error, are significant, WLS may perform worse than CLS. In this paper, we compare the effect of noise and bias error in using CLS and WLS in quantitative analysis. Results indicated that for wavenumbers with low absorbance, the bias error significantly affected the error, such that the performance of CLS is better than that of WLS. However, for wavenumbers with high absorbance, the noise significantly affected the error, and WLS proves to be better than CLS. Thus, we propose a selective weighted least squares (SWLS) regression that processes data with different wavenumbers using either CLS or WLS based on a selection criterion, i.e., lower or higher than an absorbance threshold. The effects of various factors on the optimal threshold value (OTV) for SWLS have been studied through numerical simulations. These studies reported that: (1) the concentration and the analyte type had minimal effect on OTV; and (2) the major factor that influences OTV is the ratio between the bias error and the standard deviation of the noise. The last part of this paper is dedicated to quantitative analysis of methane gas spectra, and methane/toluene mixtures gas spectra as measured using FT-IR spectrometry and CLS, WLS, and SWLS. The standard error of prediction (SEP), bias of prediction (bias), and the residual sum of squares of the errors (RSS) from the three quantitative analyses were compared. In methane gas analysis, SWLS yielded the lowest SEP and RSS among the three methods. In methane/ toluene mixture gas analysis, a modification of the SWLS has been presented to tackle the bias error from other components. The SWLS without modification presents the lowest SEP in all cases but not bias and RSS. The modification of SWLS reduced the bias, which showed a lower RSS than CLS, especially for small components. he present study used the method of embedding-adsorption to immobilize fungal laccase and to determine the suitable conditions of immobilization by measuring various activities of immobilized laccase. In addition, the immobilized laccase was further employed to repair the carbofuran-contaminated soil, and then the degradation rates of carbofuran were measured under different conditions. The experimental results showed that the appropriate conditions of embedding-adsorption were presented as follows: the weight of powdered active carbon (PAC) was 0.4 g, the concentration of CaCl2 was 1.5%, the volume of crude laccase was 80 ml, and the immobilized time was 6 h. After 48 h, the degradation rate of carbofuran in soil could reach almost 86% by the immobilized laccase. An understanding of the changes of the rammed earth temperature of earthen ruins is important for protection of such ruins. To predict the rammed earth temperature pattern using the air temperature pattern of the monitoring data of earthen ruins, a pattern prediction method based on interesting pattern mining and correlation, called PPER, is proposed in this paper. PPER first finds the interesting patterns in the air temperature sequence and the rammed earth temperature sequence. To reduce the processing time, two pruning rules and a new data structure based on an R-tree are also proposed. Correlation rules between the air temperature patterns and the rammed earth temperature patterns are then mined. The correlation rules are merged into predictive rules for the rammed earth temperature pattern. Experiments were conducted to show the accuracy of the presented method and the power of the pruning rules. Moreover, the Ming Dynasty Great Wall dataset was used to examine the algorithm, and six predictive rules from the air temperature to rammed earth temperature based on the interesting patterns were obtained, with the average hit rate reaching 89.8%. In this study, we attempted to quantify light absorption by insoluble light-absorbing particles (ILAPs) such as black carbon (BC), organic carbon (OC) and iron oxides in snow using an optical method directly and compared the results with those obtained using optical and chemical analysis methods cooperatively in previous studies. The mass absorption coefficients (MACs) and absorption Ångström exponents (AAEs) of pure hematite, goethite and fullerene soot were also measured using an integrating sphere/integrating sandwich (ISSW) spectrophotometer in the laboratory. The results indicated that the MACs of pure hematite and goethite are 0.97 ± 0.02 m²⋅g-1 and 0.43 ± 0.01 m²⋅g-1 at 550 nm, and their AAEs are 5.53 ± 0.47 and 2.18 ± 0.16 from 550 nm to 750 nm, respectively. The MAC and AAE of fullerene soot are 6.40 ± 0.42 m²⋅g-1 at 550 nm and 0.54 ± 0.06 from 450 to 750 nm. By using the regionally average AAEs of non-BC components in snow, we evaluated the performance of a directly optical analysis, rather than combination of the optical and chemical methods, in quantifying the light absorption of BC, OC and Fe in snow samples. We found that the directly optical method used to measure the light absorption of BC and OC in Northern China snow has substantially low biases of 6.29% and 4.27% in median comparing to previous method. In visual tracking, deep learning with offline pretraining can extract more intrinsic and robust features. It has significant success solving the tracking drift in a complicated environment. However, offline pretraining requires numerous auxiliary training datasets and is considerably time-consuming for tracking tasks. To solve these problems, a multiscale sparse networks-based tracker (MSNT) under the particle filter framework is proposed. Based on the stacked sparse autoencoders and rectifier linear unit, the tracker has a flexible and adjustable architecture without the offline pretraining process and exploits the robust and powerful features effectively only through online training of limited labeled data. Meanwhile, the tracker builds four deep sparse networks of different scales, according to the target's profile type. During tracking, the tracker selects the matched tracking network adaptively in accordance with the initial target's profile type. It preserves the inherent structural informationmore efficiently than the single-scale networks. Additionally, a corresponding update strategy is proposed to improve the robustness of the tracker. Extensive experimental results on a large scale benchmark dataset show that the proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods in challenging environments. Metal coatings with good conductivity and hydrophobicity property were prepared on wood surface via a simple electroless nickel (Ni) approach. The variation of crosssectional area for coatings on wood surface was investigated. The cross-sectional area of the coatings increased as the number of deposition steps was increased. The resistance, conductivity, and hydrophobicity property of the coatings were obviously enhanced with the increase in the number of depositions. The composite structure was characterised with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The conductivity and hydrophobicity property of the ideal coatings on wood surface can be greatly improved. Here, the resistance of longitudinal coatings was as large as 28.4 mΩ and the conductivity can be up to 706.7 S/cm. The resistance of the coatings was decreased 5 times compared with that of coatings obtained via a single deposition. The contact angle of coatings varied in angle between 90.7 and 116.89°. When the genetic algorithm is used to solve the problem of too short-arc (TSA) orbit determination, due to the difference of computing process between the genetic algorithm and the classical method, the original method for outlier deletion is no longer applicable. In the genetic algorithm, the robust estimation is realized by introducing different loss functions for the fitness function, then the outlier problem of the TSA orbit determination is solved. Compared with the classical method, the genetic algorithm is greatly simplified by introducing in different loss functions. Through the comparison on the calculations of multiple loss functions, it is found that the least median square (LMS) estimation and least trimmed square (LTS) estimation can greatly improve the robustness of the TSA orbit determination, and have a high breakdown point. Background: Studies have shown that turning is associated with more instability than straight walking and instability increases with turning angles. However, the precise relationship of changes in stability with the curvature and step length of turning is not clear. The traditional center of mass (COM)-center of pressure (COP) inclination angle requires the use of force plates. A COM-foot contact point (FCP) inclination angle derived from kinematic data is proposed in this study as a measure of the stability of turning.Methods: In order to generate different degrees of stability, we designed an experiment of walking with different curvatures and step lengths. Simultaneously, a novel method was proposed to calculate the COM-FCP inclination angles of different walking trajectories with different step lengths for 10 healthy subjects. The COM-FCP inclination angle, the COM acceleration, the step width and the COM-ankle inclination angles were statistically analyzed.Results: The statistical results showed that the mediolateral (ML) COM-FCP inclination angles increased significantly as the curvature of the walking trajectories or the step length in circular walking increased. Changes in the ML COM acceleration, the step width and the ML COM-ankle inclination angle verified the feasibility and reliability of the proposed method. Additionally, the ML COM-FCP inclination angle was more sensitive to the ML stability than the ML COM-ankle inclination angle.Conclusions: The work suggests that it is more difficult to keep balance when walking in a circular trajectory with a larger curvature or in a larger step length. Essentially, turning with a larger angle in one step leads to a lower ML stability. A novel COM-FCP inclination angle was validated to indicate ML stability. This method can be applied to complicated walking tasks, where the force plate is not applicable, and it accounts for the variability of the base of support (BOS) compared to the COM-ankle inclination angle. This study addresses the problem of power allocation and mode selection in a hybrid coordinated multi-cell transmission system with limited backhaul capacity. The power consumption is considered as the extra expense due to data exchange via backhaul links. A novel hybrid multi-cell scheme is presented, in which each mobile station (MS) can dynamically select either interference channel or multi-cell multi-input and multi-output cooperation mode. To maximise energy efficiency (EE), the optimal power allocation scheme with low complexity is proposed. Moreover, the authors propose an energy-efficient mode selection metric for each MS, which reflects both benefits and extra expense brought by the selected cooperation mode. Based on the proposed metric, the optimal mode selection strategy maximising EE is obtained. As a variety of services have emerged, hybrid services have become more common in real optical networks. Although the elastic spectrum resource optimizations over the elastic optical networks (EONs) have been widely investigated, little research has been carried out on the hybrid services of the routing and spectrum allocation (RSA), especially over the network coding–enabled EON. We investigated the RSA for the unicast service and network coding–based multicast service over the network coding–enabled EON with the constraints of time delay and transmission distance. To address this issue, a mathematical model was built to minimize the total spectrum consumption for the hybrid services over the network coding–enabled EON under the constraints of time delay and transmission distance. The model guarantees different routing constraints for different types of services. The immediate nodes over the network coding–enabled EON are assumed to be capable of encoding the flows for different kinds of information. We proposed an efficient heuristic algorithm of the network coding– based adaptive routing and layered graph-based spectrum allocation algorithm (NCAR-LGSA). From the simulation results, NCAR-LGSA shows highly efficient performances in terms of the spectrum resources utilization under different network scenarios compared with the benchmark algorithms. Natural organic matter (NOM) represents the major source of precursors for disinfection byproducts (DBPs), such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs), formed during disinfection of drinking water, but the molecular composition and reactivity of NOM remain not well understood. In this study, electrospray ionization coupled to Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) was used to characterize the molecular composition of NOM of 20 source waters taken across China for the purpose of determining the major precursors of THMs and HAAs at molecular level. It was found that there is a core of NOM compositions that are ubiquitous in different source waters, which is supposed to be more relevant for NOM quality. Formation potentials (FP) of THMs and HAAs were determined for NOM from different source waters during chlorination. Spearman's rank correlation was used to link THMFP and HAAFP with the individual molecular composition of NOM. Significant correlation (P < 0.001) was found between DBPFP and the NOM molecules with a high O/C ratio and low H/C ratio, indicating these molecules could contribute greatly to the formation of THMs and HAAs during chlorination. The link of THMFP and HAAFP with individual NOM molecules may allow us to develop more effective treatment strategies to achieve the drinking water safety objective: effective disinfection of waterborne pathogens while minimizing toxic DBPs. Background: The caesarean section rate has risen rapidly in China. The purpose of this retrospective study was to estimate caesarean section rates and indications by hospital facility level in Mainland China to investigate reasons contributing to the high rate.Methods: This cross-sectional hospital-based study collected data from 39 hospitals in three geographical regions in China, covering 14 different provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, including 20 tertiary health hospitals and 19 secondary hospitals. Data from all women who gave birth at these hospitals during 2011 were included.Results: A total of 112,138 women who gave birth after 24 weeks of gestation were surveyed. Of these pregnancies, 54.5% (61,084 cases) resulted in caesarean section, non-indicated caesarean section accounted for 38.4% of caesarean sections. Overall caesarean section rates were higher at the tertiary level hospitals (55.9%) compared to the secondary level hospitals (50.9%). The secondary level hospitals had higher rates of non-indicated caesarean section (48.9% of caesarean sections) compared to tertiary level hospitals (34.5% of caesarean sections). The rate of caesarean section on maternal request was higher in the secondary hospitals (16.6%) than in the tertiary hospitals (10%) (P < 0.001), as well as the caesarean section rate for CPD prior to labour. Operative vaginal deliveries were overall rare (1.2%) with 90.9% (1200/1320 cases) performed in the tertiary hospitals.Conclusions: Caesarean section on maternal request accounts for a large portion of China's high caesarean section rate, especially in the secondary hospitals. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is characterized by increased macrophage infiltration, and proinflammatory M1 macrophages contribute to development of DN. Previous studies by us and others have reported that macrophage cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) plays a role in polarization and maintenance of a macrophage tissue-reparative M2 phenotype. We examined the effects of macrophage COX-2 on development of DN in type 1 diabetes. Cultured macrophages with COX-2 deletion exhibited an M1 phenotype, as demonstrated by higher inducible nitric oxide synthase and nuclear factor-κB levels but lower interleukin-4 receptor-α levels. Compared with corresponding wild-type diabetic mice, mice with COX-2 deletion in hematopoietic cells (COX-2 knockout bone marrow transplantation) or macrophages (CD11b-Cre COX2f/f) developed severe DN, as indicated by increased albuminuria, fibrosis, and renal infiltration of T cells, neutrophils, and macrophages. Although diabetic kidneys with macrophage COX-2 deletion had more macrophage infiltration, they had fewer renal M2 macrophages. Diabetic kidneys with macrophage COX-2 deletion also had increased endoplasmic reticulum stress and decreased number of podocytes. Similar results were found in diabetic mice with macrophage PGE2 receptor subtype 4 deletion. In summary, these studies have demonstrated an important but unexpected role for macrophage COX-2/prostaglandin E2/PGE2 receptor subtype 4 signaling to lessen progression of diabetic kidney disease, unlike the pathogenic effects of increased COX-2 expression in intrinsic renal cells. Considering that generally frequency instability problems occur due to abrupt variations in load demand growth and power variations generated by different renewable energy sources (RESs), the application of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) may become crucial due to its rapid response features. In this paper, liquid hydrogen with SMES (LIQHYSMES) is proposed to play a role in the future energy internet in terms of its combination of the SMES and the liquid hydrogen storage unit, which can help to overcome the capacity limit and high investment cost disadvantages of SMES. The generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm is presented to be appreciatively used to eliminate the frequency deviations of the isolated micro energy grid including the LIQHYSMES and RESs. A benchmark micro energy grid with distributed generators (DGs), electrical vehicle (EV) stations, smart loads and a LIQHYSMES unit is modeled in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The simulation results show that the proposed GPC strategy can reschedule the active power output of each component to maintain the stability of the grid. In addition, in order to improve the performance of the SMES, a detailed optimization design of the superconducting coil is conducted, and the optimized SMES unit can offer better technical advantages in damping the frequency fluctuations. Association rule mining on oil and gas data has recently been successfully used to help understand reservoirs; therefore, the visualization and understanding of the discovered association rules based on well locations and subsequent predictions based on the applicable areas of the rules are important. In this paper, two visualization methods--point- and surface-based geovisualization--are proposed for association rules from oil and gas well data. The point-based method represents association rules based on well locations, and the surface-based method represents potentially applicable areas through spatial interpolation and visualization. A case study has been carried out on a real cold production oil well dataset in western Alberta, Canada, and, the results illustrate the feasibility of the proposed geovisualization methods. Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) patients frequently experience emotion dysregulation symptoms, including post-traumatic stress. Although mTBI likely affects cortical activation and structure, resulting in cognitive symptoms after mTBI, early effects of mTBI on cortical emotion processing circuits have rarely been examined. To assess early mTBI effects on cortical functional and structural components of emotion processing, we assessed cortical activation to fearful faces within the first 2 weeks after motor vehicle collision (MVC) in survivors who did and did not experience mTBI. We also examined the thicknesses of cortical regions with altered activation. MVC survivors with mTBI (n = 21) had significantly less activation in left superior parietal gyrus (SPG) (-5.9, -81.8, 33.8; p = 10-3.623), left medial orbitofrontal gyrus (mOFG) (-4.7, 36.1, -19.3; p = 10-3.231), and left and right lateral orbitofrontal gyri (lOFG) (left: -16.0, 41.4, -16.6; p = 10-2.573; right: 18.7, 22.7, -17.7; p = 10-2.764) than MVC survivors without mTBI (n = 23). SPG activation in mTBI survivors within 2 weeks after MVC was negatively correlated with subsequent post-traumatic stress symptom severity at 3 months (r = -0.68, p = 0.03). Finally, the SPG region was thinner in the mTBI survivors than in the non-mTBI survivors (F = 11.07, p = 0.002). These results suggest that early differences in activation and structure in cortical emotion processing circuits in trauma survivors who sustain mTBI may contribute to the development of emotion-related symptoms. S100 calcium binding protein A4 (S100A4) promotes extracellular signal transduction, intercellular adhesion, motility and mobility. Different extracts from Coix lachryma-jobi have been used for the treatment of various types of cancer in Asia. In our previous study, the polysaccharide fraction extact, CP1, induced cell apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer cells. In the current study, CP1 inhibited migration and invasion of A549 cells in a scratch wound healing assay and matrigel invasion assay, respectively. Furthermore, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting demonstrated that CP1 downregulated the gene and protein expression levels of S100A4. In silico docking analysis demonstrated that polysaccharides may not interfere with dimerization, whereas, the affinity of polysaccharides for an S100A4-NMIIA pocket was margnially greater than at the dimerization sites. Thus, CP1 inhibited A549 cell migration and invasion potentially via downregulation of S100A4, and may also interact with the binding site of S100A4-NMIIA, which indicated that CP1 has potential as an alternative cancer chemotherapeutic by targeting S100A4. Recent evidence suggests that troxerutin, a trihydroxyethylated derivative of natural bioflavonoid rutin, exhibits beneficial effects on diabetes-related symptoms. Here we investigated the effects of troxerutin on the enhancement of hepatic gluconeogenesis in high-fat diet (HFD)-treated mice and the mechanisms underlying these effects. Mice were divided into four groups: Control group, HFD group, HFD + Troxerutin group, and Troxerutin group. Troxerutin was treated by daily oral administration at doses of 150 mg/kg/day for 20 weeks. Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) was used to inhibit endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress). Our results showed that troxerutin effectively improved obesity and related metabolic parameters, and liver injuries in HFD-treated mouse. Furthermore, troxerutin significantly attenuated enhancement of hepatic gluconeogenesis in HFD-fed mouse. Moreover, troxerutin notably suppressed nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 transcriptional activation and release of inflammatory cytokines in HFD-treated mouse livers. Mechanismly, troxerutin dramatically decreased Nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD) expression, as well as interaction between NOD1/2 with interacting protein-2 (RIP2), by abating oxidative stress-induced ER stress in HFD-treated mouse livers, which was confirmed by TUDCA treatment. These improvement effects of troxerutin on hepatic glucose disorders might be mediated by its anti-obesity effect. In conclusion, troxerutin markedly diminished HFD-induced enhancement of hepatic gluconeogenesis via its inhibitory effects on ER stress-mediated NOD activation and consequent inflammation, which might be mediated by its anti-obesity effect.
