Several multi‐hydrogen hydrides have exhibited high critical temperature (Tc) superconductivity, but the requirement for ultrahigh pressures limits their applications. Here, high‐throughput calculations are utilized to investigate the superconductivity in few‐hydrogen metal‐bonded (FHMB) perovskites (PVSKs) AHM3 characterized with perfect ambient‐pressure stability. AHM3 is classified into two groups, d and sp superconductors, and provide three indicators that accurately describe AHM3 superconductivity. i) Tc of d superconductors is positively correlated with the number of unpaired d electrons from M atoms; ii) A suitably sized octahedral interstice of H atom is essential for sp superconductors; iii) The introduction of H will further improve the superconductivity, when the M atom has a lower electronegativity than H. ZnHCr3 and ZnHAl3, perfectly meeting the requirements aforementioned, exhibit the highest Tc of 30 and 80 K among the d and sp superconductors, respectively. The results are helpful for understanding the electron–phonon coupling (EPC) mechanism in few‐hydrogen metal‐bonded perovskites and facilitate realizations of ambient‐pressure high‐Tc superconductivity in hydrides. A dual-functional ionic liquid additive, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate (BMIHSO 4), is developed to tune the preferential Zn(002) crystallographic texture and simultaneously suppress the hydroxide sulfate accumulation on Zn anode by dynamically manipulating electrolyte pH-surroundings. The effective suppression of Zn dendrite growth enables a Zn symmetrical cell cycling stably to over one year. [Display omitted] Zn anodes suffer from the formation of uncontrolled dendrites aggravated by the uneven electric field and the insulating by-product accumulation in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Here, an effective strategy implemented by 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate (BMIHSO 4) additive is proposed to synergistically tune the crystallographic orientation of zinc deposition and suppress the formation of zinc hydroxide sulfate for enhancing the reversibility on Zn anode surface. As a competing cation, BMI+ is proved to preferably adsorb on Zn-electrode compared with H 2 O molecules, which shields the "tip effect" and inhibits the Zn-deposition agglomerations to inducing the horizontal growth along Zn (002) crystallographic texture. Simultaneously, the protonated BMIHSO 4 additives could remove the detrimental OH– in real-time to fundamentally eliminate the accumulation of 6Zn(OH) 2 ·ZnSO 4 ·4H 2 O and Zn 4 SO 4 (OH) 6 ·H 2 O on Zn anode surface. Consequently, Zn anode exhibits an ultra-long cycling stability of one year (8762 h) at 0.2 mA cm−2/0.2 mAh cm−2, 3600 h at 2 mA cm−2/2 mAh cm−2 with a high plating cumulative capacity of 3.6 Ah cm−2, and a high average Coulombic efficiency of 99.6 % throughout 1000 cycles. This work of regulating Zn deposition texture combined with eliminating notorious by-products could offer a desirable way for stabilizing the Zn-anode/electrolyte interface in AZIBs. Electrical signaling plays a crucial role in the cellular response to tissue injury in wound healing and an external electric field (EF) may expedite the healing process. Here, we have developed a standalone, wearable, and programmable electronic device to administer a well-controlled exogenous EF, aiming to accelerate wound healing in an in vivo mouse model to provide pre-clinical evidence. We monitored the healing process by assessing the re-epithelization rate and the ratio of M1/M2 macrophage phenotypes through histology staining. Following three days of treatment, the M1/M2 macrophage ratio decreased by 30.6% and the re-epithelization in the EF-treated wounds trended towards a non-statically significant 24.2% increase compared to the control. These findings provide point towards the effectiveness of the device in shortening the inflammatory phase by promoting reparative macrophages over inflammatory macrophages, and in speeding up re-epithelialization. Our wearable device supports the rationale for the application of programmed EFs for wound management in vivo and provides an exciting basis for further development of our technology based on the modulation of macrophages and inflammation to better wound healing. In this study, a novel fluidized-bed homogeneous granulation (FBHo-G) process was developed to recover lithium (Li) from industrial Li-impacted wastewater. Five important operational variables (i.e., temperatures, pH, [P]0/[Li]0 molar ratios, surface loadings, and up-flow velocities (Umf)) were selected to optimize the Li recovery (TR%) and granulation ratio (GR%) efficiencies of the process. The optimal operational conditions were determined as the following: a temperature of 75 °C, pH of 11.5, [P]0/[Li]0 of 0.5, surface loading of 2.5 kg/m2·h, and Umf of 35.7 m/h). The TR% and GR% at optimal condition could be as much as 90%. The material characterization of the recovery pellet products showed that they were highly crystallized Li3PO4 (purity ~88.2%). The pellets had a round shape and smooth surface with an average size of 0.65 mm, so could easily be stored and transported. The high purity enables them to be further directly reused as raw materials for a wide range of industrial applications (e.g., in the synthesis of cathode materials). Our calculation shows that the FBHo-G process could recover up to 0.1845 kg of lithium per cubic meter of Li-containing wastewater, at a recovery rate of ~90%. A brief technoeconomic analysis shows that FBHG process had economic viability, with an estimate production cost of USD 26/kg Li removed, while the potential gained profit for selling lithium phosphate pellets could be up to USD 48 per the same volume of wastewater and the net profit up to USD 22/m3 Li treated. In all, fluidized-bed homogeneous granulation, a seedless one-step recovery process, opens a promising pathway toward a green and sustainable recycling industry for the recovery and application of the resource-limited lithium element from nonconventional water sources. Robustness is one of the most critical characteristics of complex networks, determining their stability and resilience in the face of various disturbances. With the research on complex networks, people have observed that higher-order networks can also affect the structure and function of the network. Therefore, when studying network robustness, we also need to consider the interaction between higher-order networks and low-order networks. To delve deeper into the investigation and comprehension of robustness in complex networks, this paper introduces a model of higher-low order networks with adjustable coupling strength. In this model, network nodes are categorized into autonomous and nonautonomous nodes, with coupling strength adjusted using three methods: random coupling, degree-related coupling, and local coupling. Validation is performed on ER networks, BA networks, SW networks, as well as several real-world networks. Menispermaceae species, as early‐diverging eudicots, can synthesize valuable benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs) like bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids (bisBIAs) and sinomenines with a wide range of structural diversity. However, the evolutionary mechanisms responsible for their chemo‐diversity are not well understood. Here, a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Menispermum dauricum is presented and demonstrated the occurrence of two whole genome duplication (WGD) events that are shared by Ranunculales and specific to Menispermum, providing a model for understanding chromosomal evolution in early‐diverging eudicots. The biosynthetic pathway for diverse BIAs in M. dauricum is reconstructed by analyzing the transcriptome and metabolome. Additionally, five catalytic enzymes – one norcoclaurine synthase (NCS) and four cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP450s) – from M. dauricum are responsible for the formation of the skeleton, hydroxylated modification, and C‐O/C‐C phenol coupling of BIAs. Notably, a novel leaf‐specific MdCYP80G10 enzyme that catalyzes C2′‐C4a phenol coupling of (S)‐reticuline into sinoacutine, the enantiomer of morphinan compounds, with predictable stereospecificity is discovered. Moreover, it is found that Menispermum‐specific CYP80 gene expansion, as well as tissue‐specific expression, has driven BIA diversity in Menispermaceae as compared to other Ranunculales species. Polyethylene oxide (PEO)‐based solid‐state batteries hold great promise as the next‐generation batteries with high energy density and high safety. However, PEO‐based electrolytes encounter certain limitations, including inferior ionic conductivity, low Li+ transference number, and poor mechanical strength. Herein, we aim to simultaneously address these issues by utilizing one‐dimensional zwitterionic cellulose nanofiber (ZCNF) as fillers for PEO‐based electrolytes using a simple aqueous solution casting method. Multiple characterizations and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the unique zwitterionic structure imparts ZCNF with various functions, such as disrupting PEO crystallization, dissociating lithium salts, anchoring anions through cationic groups, accelerating Li+ migration by anionic groups, as well as its inherent reinforcement effect. As a result, the prepared PL‐ZCNF electrolyte exhibits remarkable ionic conductivity (5.37×10−4 S cm−1) and Li+ transference number (0.62) at 60 °C without sacrificing mechanical strength (9.2 MPa), together with high critical current density of 1.1 mA cm−2. Attributed to these merits of PL‐ZCNF, the LiFePO4|PL‐ZCNF|Li solid‐state full‐cell delivers exceptional rate capability and cycling performance (900 cycles at 5 C). Notably, the assembled pouch‐cell can maintain steady operation over 1000 cycles with an impressive 93.7 % capacity retention at 0.5 C and 60 °C, highlighting the great potential of PL‐ZCNF for practical applications. Background: Fluoride-resistant Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) strains have developed due to the wide use of fluoride in dental caries prevention. However, the metabolomics of fluoride-resistant S. mutans remains unclear. Objective: This study aimed to identify metabolites that discriminate fluoride-resistant from wild-type S. mutans. Materials and methods: Cell supernatants from fluoride-resistant and wild-type S. mutans were collected and analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Principal components analysis and partial least-squares discriminant analysis were performed for the statistical analysis by variable influence on projection (VIP > 2.0) and p value (Mann–Whitney test, p < 0.05). Metabolites were assessed qualitatively using the Human Metabolome Database version 2.0 (http://www.hmdb.ca), or Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (http://www.kegg.jp), and Metaboanalyst 6.0 (https://www.metaboanalyst.ca). Results: Fourteen metabolites differed significantly between fluoride-resistant and wild-type strains in the early log phase. Among these metabolites, 5 were identified. There were 32 differential metabolites between the two strains in the stationary phase, 13 of which were identified. The pyrimidine metabolism for S. mutans FR was matched with the metabolic pathway. Conclusions: The fructose-1,6-bisphosphate concentration increased in fluoride-resistant strains under acidic conditions, suggesting enhanced acidogenicity and acid tolerance. Abstract: Using the nonequilibrium Hubbard operator Green''s function technique, we study the inelastic low-temperature quantum transport through an artificial single-molecule magnet coupled to a single phonon mode. For a minimal model based on CdTe quantum dot doped with a single Mn2+ ion (S=5/2), the calculated results show that in the presence of hole–phonon coupling, in addition to main Kondo-like peaks associated with (2S+1) sublevels of spin pair states, satellite Kondo-like peaks originating from emitting phonons appear in the local density of states and differential conductance. Moreover, the number of these phonon-induced Kondo-like peaks depends on the parity of the local large spin, i.e., S=integer or half-integer. It is expected that the intrinsic properties of artificial single-molecule magnets can be obtained by detecting these transport characteristics. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Spin and charge-current dynamics after ultrafast spin-polarized excitation in a normal metal are studied theoretically using macroscopic wave-diffusion equations for spin-resolved carrier and current densities. It is shown analytically how this set of equations yields a unified description of ballistic and diffusive properties of spin and charge transport, including the intermediate regime between these two limits. In the framework of the wave-diffusion approach, ultrafast excitation of spin-polarized carriers in thin gold films is modeled assuming slightly spin-dependent momentum relaxation times along with standard parameters (Fermi velocity, spin and momentum relaxation times). The unified treatment of diffusive and ballistic transport yields robust signatures in the spin and charge dynamics that are in qualitative agreement with recent experimental results [Melnikov et al., Phys. Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory and angiogenic disease. However, the molecular mechanisms that promote angiogenesis in RA have not been clearly identified. Our objective was to study the role of CD147 in angiogenesis and determine whether the strategy in which CD147 is suppressed might be useful in reducing angiogenesis in RA. Methods Correlations among expression levels of CD147, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) were determined by immunohistochemistry staining. RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) cells were cultured under various conditions, and the production of VEGF and HIF-1α was examined by real-time polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The SCID mouse coimplantation model of RA (SCID-HuRAg) was established, mice were treated with CD147 monoclonal antibody, infliximab, or both CD147 and infliximab, and the volume of the grafts and the average vascular density were measured and analyzed. Western blot analyses were performed to examine the potential signaling pathways. Results The expression levels of CD147 showed significantly positive correlations with VEGF and HIF-1α levels, as well as with vascular density, in RA synovium. After small interfering RNA transfection or after addition of specific antibodies for CD147, the production of VEGF and HIF-1α were significantly reduced. The expression of VEGF and HIF-1α decreased more after CD147 inhibition than after infliximab treatment in the engrafted tissues in SCID-HuRAg mice. The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt pathway may be involved in this process. Conclusion CD147 induces up-regulation of VEGF and HIF-1α in RA FLS, further promotes angiogenesis, and leads to the persistence of synovitis. We report on a nano-array sensor for hydrogen peroxide (HO) that is based on a nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide template. This was used as a matrix for the co-immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and methylene blue (MB) on the surface of an indium tin oxide electrode. The immobilized HRP retained its natural activity and MB is capable of efficiently shuttle electrons between HRP and the electrode. The new electrode was characterized by SEM and electrochemical methods. It exhibits fast response, long-term stability, high sensitivity and good selectivity to HO. Under optimized conditions, it linearly responds to HO in the concentration range from 1.0 μM to 26 mM, with a detection limit of 0.21 μM (at S/N = 3). The Dexing porphyry copper deposit, part of the circum-Pacific porphyry copper ore belt, is the largest porphyry copper deposit in China. We present new LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb and molybdenite Re–Os dating, bulk-rock elemental and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic as well as in situ zircon Hf isotopic geochemistry for these ore-bearing porphyries, in an attempt to better constrain their petrogenesis. LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating shows that the Dexing porphyries were emplaced in the early Middle Jurassic (∼171 Ma); molybdenite Re–Os dating indicates that the associated Cu–Mo mineralization was contemporaneous (∼171 Ma) with the igneous intrusion. The rocks are mainly high-K calc-alkaline and show adakitic affinities, including high Sr and low Y and Yb contents, high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios, and high Mg# (higher than pure crustal melts). These porphyries have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7044−0.7047, ϵNd(T) values of –1.5 to +0.6, and ϵHf(T) (in situ zircon) values of +2.6 to +4.6. They show unusually radiogenic Pb isotopic compositions with initial 206Pb/204Pb ratios up to 18.41 and 207Pb/204Pb up to 15.61. These isotopic compositions are distinctly different from either Pacific MORB or Yangtze lower crust but are similar to the subducting sediments in the western Pacific trenches. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Dexing porphyries were emplaced in a continental arc setting coupled with westward subduction of the palaeo-Pacific plate. Partial melting involved the subducted slab (mainly the overlying sediments), with generated melts interacting with the lithospheric mantle wedge, thereby forming the investigated high-K calc-alkaline porphyry magmas. By analyzing the relation between the transmission of the output mirror and the output power in an intracavity frequency doubling laser, we choose an optimal transmission of the output mirror according to the laser application requirements. As a result, a high-power single-frequency laser at 540nm is obtained with a maximum output power of 8W and a power stability of ±1% for three hours, whose beam quality M2 is better than 1.2. At the same time, a moderate FW power of 1.2W is coupled out, which is enough to meet the requirements for local oscillation light and injected signal optical beams in quantum optics experiments. Abstract: This paper presents detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, mineral chemistry, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of two Cenozoic plutons (Karibasheng and Kuzigan) in western Tibetan Plateau, China. The Karibasheng pluton is composed of monzogranite, and the Kuzigan pluton consists of syenogranite, diopside-bearing syenite and diopside syenite. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating on monzogranite, syenogranite and diopside syenite shows that they were emplaced in Miocene (12–10Ma). These rocks are metaluminous and show the affinities with shoshonitic rocks, i.e., alkali-rich (K2O+Na2O=8.6–13.4wt.%), high K2O contents (4.7–10.6wt.%) with high K2O/Na2O ratios (1.2–4.6), enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) (e.g., Ba=2200–9100ppm; Sr=840–3100ppm, most >1100ppm) and rare earth elements (REE), especially light REE (LREE) (La/Yb up to 168). The rocks are depleted in high field strength elements (HFSE) but show high Nb/Ta ratios (13.3–30.7). The granites have lower initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7091–0.7099) and higher εNd (T) values (−7.1 to −9.5) than the syenites that have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7095–0.7117 and εNd (T) values of −8.6 to −12.2. Their zircon εHf (T) values (−7.2 to −9.7) are coupled with their whole-rock εNd (T) values, and plot along the mantle array. The amphibole–plagioclase thermometer and estimation of apatite saturation temperature indicate that the primary magmas had high temperatures (up to 880°C for the granites and up to 1100°C for the syenites). The source depth for the granites and syenites is <70–100km inferred by the metasomatic volatile phase (amphibole–phlogopite) relation, and thus most probably within the upper part of lithospheric mantle. Detailed elemental and isotopic data and major element modeling suggest that the granites and syenites were derived directly by partial melting of the veined lithospheric mantle that had been hybridized by the continental slab-derived melts. The origin of microgranitoid enclaves in granitic plutons has long been debated (hybrid magma blobs vs. refractory restites or cognate fragments). This article presents detailed petrography, SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, bulk-rock major and trace element analyses, and Sr–Nd isotope and in situ zircon Hf isotopic geochemistry for microgranitoid enclaves within two Late Triassic granitic plutons in the Qinling orogen. Zircon U–Pb dating shows that the enclaves formed during the Carnian (222.5 ± 2.1 to 220.7 ± 1.9 Ma) coeval with their host granitoids (220.0 ± 2.0 to 218.7 ± 2.4 Ma). Field and petrological observations (e.g. double enclaves, xenocrysts, acicular apatite, and poikilitic K-feldspar or quartz) suggest that the enclaves are globules of a mantle-derived more mafic magma that was injected into and mingled with the host magma. The enclaves are mainly ultrapotassic, distinct from the host granitoids that have high-K calc-alkaline bulk-rock compositions. Although the enclaves have closely similar bulk-rock Sr–Nd isotope [initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.7046–0.7056, ϵNd (T) = –0.3 to –5.0] and in situ zircon Hf isotope [ϵHf (T) = –1.5 to +2.9] ratios as the granitoids [initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.7042–0.7059, ϵNd (T) = –0.6 to –6.3, ϵHf (T) = –2.2 to +1.6], chemical relationships including very different bulk-rock compositions at a given SiO2 content lead us to interpret the isotopic similarities as reflecting similar but separate isotopic source rocks. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the enclaves and the host granitoids were emplaced in a continental arc environment coupled with northward subduction of the Palaeo-Tethyan oceanic crust. Partial melting of subducted sediments triggered by dehydration of the underlying igneous oceanic crust, with melts interacting with the overlying mantle wedge, formed high-K calc-alkaline granitic magmas, whereas partial melting of diapiric phlogopite-pyroxenites, solidified products of the same subducting sediment-derived melts, generated ultrapotassic magmas of the microgranitoid enclaves. Our new data further confirm that in the Late Triassic time the Qinling terrane was an active continental margin rather than a post-collisional regime, giving new insights into the tectonic evolution of this orogen. This study investigated a heterogeneous photo-catalysis system by introducing a novel brick supported iron oxide (denoted as B1) for the heterogeneous photoassisted degradation of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) at pH value from 3 to 7 in a three-phase (gas-liquid-solid) fluidized bed reactor (3P-FBR). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and N2 adsorption/desorption were used to characterize the B1 catalyst. The in situ formation of hydrogen peroxide and the depletion of oxalic acid by photochemical cycle of Fe(III)-oxalate complex under UVA light (λ = 365 nm) were studied. The effects of the solution pH and the concentration of oxalic acid on the degradation of RB5 are elucidated. About 90% decolourization was measured and 80% of the total organic carbon (TOC) was eliminated at pH 5.0 after 120 min for 20 mg/L RB5 in presence of 10 g/L B1 catalyst, 30 mg/L oxalic acid under 15 W UVA light. Abstract: This work demonstrates the synthesis of a novel KMnO4-modified form of iron oxide, MnBT-4, using a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) for the adsorptive removal of arsenic (III)/(V). Characterization by XRD, BET, and SEM indicated that the BT-4 support was poorly crystallized goethite (α-FeOOH) with a specific surface area of 229m2 g−1. In FBR experiments of synthesizing MnBT-4, the Fe and Mn salts were found to have an optimal dosage ratio of less than 4, which maximized the KMnO4 immobilization efficiency. The immobilized Mn compounds on MnBT-4 underwent an additional oxidation step of As (III), promoting arsenic adsorption. When applied MnBT-4 for As (III) removal from solution, the sorption isotherm was accurately fitted with Langmuir and Freundlich models, while the maximum adsorption capacity of 27.4mgg−1 exceeded those of other adsorbents in the literature. Batch experimental results revealed that both raw BT-4 and MnBT-4 could take up a large amount of As (V). However, the MnBT-4 provided a substantially higher As (III) removal efficiency than BT-4. Most Old World monkeys show male-biased dispersal. We present the first systematic data on male dispersal in a provisioned multilevel group of Rhinopithecus roxellana, based on 4.5 years of field observations in Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, China. We evaluated both ultimate (inbreeding avoidance and male mating competition) and proximate (food availability and predation risk) factors influencing male dispersal. The focal group contained 34-53 individuals, in 3-4 one-male units (OMUs) and 1 all-male unit (AMU). We observed 37 dispersal events involving 10 of 11 adults, 7 of 8 subadults, and 7 of 15 juveniles. Most interunit transfers within the focal group occurred around the months of mating season. Adult males competed for the leader positions of OMUs mainly through aggressive takeovers, and young males transferred from the OMUs to the AMU at the median age of 41 months, forced out by leader males. No young males older than 4 years remained in natal or non-natal OMUs. The male mating competition hypothesis was supported. The young males emigrated voluntarily from the focal group at the average age of 58.6 months, and no young emigrating male was observed to return, suggesting inbreeding avoidance also played a role in the dispersal of young males. Most emigration/immigration events were parallel dispersal and occurred during intergroup encounters, suggesting increased predation risk during the dispersal period. Males were more likely to emigrate/immigrate during the months when preferred foods were most available. We compared the dispersal patterns in R. roxellana with those in gelada baboons and hamadryas baboons, both living in multilevel societies. Similar to R. roxellana, young male geladas disperse at puberty, but they may return and breed in their natal groups. Males in hamadryas also disperse, but much less commonly than in R. roxellana. In this study, iron oxides immobilized onto silica and alumina granular carriers in a fluidized-bed reactor were applied as silica granule (SG) and alumina granule (AG) catalysts, respectively; the SG and AG catalysts were used to explore the catalytic decomposition of H2O2. Effects of H2O2 concentration and temperature on the oxidation of aniline were determined to compare the reactive efficiencies of the SG and AG catalysts. Results showed that H2O2 decomposition could be efficiently catalyzed by the SG and AG catalysts. Degradation rates of aniline increased with increasing H2O2 concentration and temperature in both catalyst systems. The AG catalyst (smaller particle size) had more surface sites for precipitation of iron oxide than the SG catalyst (larger particle size). Consequently, in the initial stages of the reaction, hydroxyl radicals (•OH) were generated more rapidly with the AG catalyst than with the SG catalyst and the degradation of aniline by the AG catalyst was faster than that by the SG catalyst. Fenton technologies for wastewater treatment have demonstrated their effectiveness in eliminating toxic compounds. This study examines how hydrogen peroxide concentration and ultraviolet (UV) light affects oxidation processes. However, total mineralization through these Fenton technologies is expensive compared with biological technologies. Therefore, partial chemical oxidation of toxic wastewaters with Fenton processes followed by biological units may increase the application range of Fenton technologies. Using 2,6-dimethylaniline (2,6-DMA) as the target compound, this study also investigates oxidation intermediates and their biodegradable efficiencies after treatment by Fenton, electro-Fenton and photoelectron-Fenton processes. Analytical results show that the UV light-promoting efficiency, rPE-F/rE-F, was 2.02, 2.55 and 2.67 with initial hydrogen peroxide concentrations of 15, 20 and 25 mM, respectively. We conclude that UV irradiation promoted 2,6-DMA degradation significantly. The same tendency was observed for biochemical oxygen demand/total organic carbon (BOD5/TOC) ratios for each process, meaning that 2,6-DMA can be successfully detoxified using the electro-Fenton and photoelectro-Fenton processes. Abstract: In this study, two electrochemical oxidation processes were utilized to mineralize oxalic acid which was a major intermediate compound in the oxidation of phenols and other aromatic compounds. The anode rod and cathode net were made of a titanium coated with RuO2/IrO2 (Ti-DSA) and stainless steel (S.S. net, SUS304), respectively. First, the Fered-Fenton process, which used H2O2 and Fe2+ as additive reagents, achieved 85% of TOC removal. It proceeded with ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT), which was evidenced by the accumulation of metallic foil on the selected cathode. However, in the absence of H2O2/Fe2+, it showed a higher TOC removal efficiency while using Cl− only as an additive reagent due to the formation of hypochlorite on the anode. It was also found that the mineralization of oxalic acid by electrolysis generated hypochlorite better than the dosage of commercial hypochlorite without electricity. Also, pH value was a major factor that affected the mineralization efficiency of the oxalic acid due to the chlorine chemistry. 99% TOC removal could be obtained by Cl− electrolysis in an acidic environment. Abstract: The photocatalytic activity of a brick grain-supported iron oxide (denoted as B1) was tested for its activity to degrade Reactive Black 5 (RB5) in the presence of oxalic acid. B1 was obtained as a solid waste from a wastewater treatment plant, and characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm analyses. The decolorization experiments were performed in a fluidized bed reactor with aeration under UV-A irradiation (λ =365nm). The effects of various factors such as solution pH, concentration of oxalic acid and dissolved oxygen on the decolorization of RB5 were evaluated considering the contributions of adsorption and photo-catalytic degradation. The role of dissolved iron in the removal of RB5 and the stability of B1 were also examined. In addition, the removal of TOC during the photo-catalytic reaction was monitored. Abstract: In this study, a waste iron oxide material (BT3), which is a by-product of the fluidized-bed Fenton reaction (FBR-Fenton), was thermally treated between 200 and 900°C and was used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of fluoride ions in an aqueous system. The highest fluoride adsorption capacity occurred at the termination of the BT3 goethite dehydroxylation phase at about 300°C calcination where both the volume of nanopores formed by dehydroxylation and the specific surface area reached their maximum values. Above 300°C, BT3 transformed to the hematite phase in which fluoride adsorption capacity decreased as calcination temperature increased. On the other hand, the effect of pH on the fluoride adsorption capacity of BT3 for various initial fluoride concentrations was examined. The optimum pH value was found to be about 4. After that efficiency decreased as pH became more alkaline. Finally, coexisting anions affected the fluoride adsorption capacity of BT3 at pH 3.9±0.2 in this order: PO4 3− >SO4 2− >Cl− >NO3 −. A power-conversion system for converting three-phase power into single-phase power is proposed in this paper. The proposed three-phase to single-phase (3φ/1φ) power-conversion system comprises a power converter, a zero-sequence transformer set, and a filter capacitor. The output currents of the power converter are divided into two parts. One is a set of positive-sequence sinusoidal currents, whose phases are in phase with the voltages of the three-phase power source. The positive-sequence sinusoidal currents are employed to absorb a real power from the three-phase power source. In addition, the power converter can perform the functions of three-phase balance, low harmonic distortion, and unity power factor when the single-phase load is used. The other is a set of zero-sequence currents, which will pass through the zero-sequence transformer set and build a single-phase voltage with high power quality for the single-phase load. Since the proposed 3φ/1φ power-conversion system contains only one power converter, it has the advantages of simplifying both the power circuit and control circuit. A prototype is developed and tested to demonstrate the performance of the proposed 3φ/1φ power-conversion system. Abstract: The Gan-Hang rift, trending at least 450km in a NE–SW direction, is a part of a Mesozoic Basin and Range Province in southeastern China. Detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope data of three granitic plutons and a diabasic dike in the northwest of the Gan-Hang rift, are used to explore the origin of these granites and their relationship to the evolution of the Gan-Hang rift. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating shows that the granitic plutons and diabasic dike were emplaced in the Early Cretaceous (122–129 Ma). The Tongshan and Damaoshan plutons, close to the Gan-Hang rift, consist mainly of weakly peraluminous granitic rocks, which show A2 subtype affinity. These granites have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7080–0.7103, εNd (T) values of−1.4 to−5.6 and εHf (T) (in-situ zircon) values of −3.8 to +1.2. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that they were formed by partial melting of granulitized Mesoproterozoic metamorphic basement (including metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks) in the shallow (<30km) crust at a high temperature (~823°C). These pure crustal melts underwent crystal fractionation of biotite, plagioclase and K-feldspar, forming the more felsic end-member of granitic rocks. The Ehu pluton, more distant from the Gan-Hang rift, is composed of two-mica granites, which are strongly peraluminous and are S-type granites. These granites have higher initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7162−0.7191) and lower εNd (T) (−7.1 to −7.4) and εHf (T) (−6.8; in-situ zircon) values than the Tongshan and Damaoshan granites. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Ehu granites were formed by partial melting of Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary basement in the deep (~40–50km) crust at a relatively low temperature (~757°C), with no fractional crystallization and mantle-derived magma mixing in their evolution. The coeval diabasic dike is calc-alkaline and has initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.7085, εNd (T) value of +0.9 and εHf (T) (in-situ zircon) value of −7.1, suggesting that it was derived from the asthenospheric mantle wedge that had been metasomatised via addition of subducted sediment-derived melt with monazite in the residual phase. The association of Early Cretaceous (122–129Ma) S- and A-type granites in the northwest of the Gan-Hang rift marks the onset of back-arc extension or intra-arc rift. With ongoing extension the crust and lithospheric mantle became progressively thinned. The upwelling of asthenosphere triggered partial melting of both metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks in the more thinned crust close to the Gan-Hang rift, forming the A-type granitic magmas such as Tongshan and Damaoshan, whereas partial melting of metasedimentary rocks in the less thinned crust farther from the Gan-Hang rift formed the S-type granitic magmas such as Ehu. The red sediments with the total thickness more than 10,000m have been successively deposited in the Gan-Hang rift valley since the late Early Cretaceous (~105Ma), suggesting that this region experienced the most back-arc extension. This paper presents detailed mineral chemical, element geochemical and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic data for the Late Jurassic (155 ± 4 Ma) lamprophyre dikes in the Liaodong Peninsula, NE China. The lamprophyres are shoshonitic and geochemically fall into three groups: Group I has relatively high SiO (52.5-57.0 wt.%), low MgO (5.5-8.3 wt.%) and compatible trace element (e.g. Cr = 128-470 ppm) contents, high initial Sr/Sr ratios (0.7093-0.7117), and low ε (T) values (−9.6 to −12.1); Group II has relatively low SiO (44.8-50.0 wt.%), high MgO (10.8-14.2 wt.%) and compatible trace element (e.g. Cr = 456-1,041 ppm) contents, low initial Sr/Sr ratios (0.7073-0.7087), and high ε (T) values (−1.4 to −2.9); Group III is transitional between the two in all elemental and isotopic compositions. Interpretation of the elemental and isotopic data suggests that the lamprophyric melts were derived by partial melting of subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) at a depth of 60-80 km (group I), decompression melting of upwelling asthenosphere at 60-100 km (group II), and mixing between the SCLM-derived and asthenosphere-derived melts (group III). It is assumed that the local SCLM was detached at a depth of 60-80 km by the 155 Ma ago. This paper presents detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, mineral chemistry, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of the Datong pluton and its quenched enclaves from the western Kunlun orogen, northwest China, in an attempt to achieve a better understanding on the origin of diverse arc magmas. The Datong host granitoids are intermediate to acid in composition (SiO = 57.5 ~ 73.1 wt.%), and exhibit high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic affinities. The quenched enclaves are silica-rich ultrapotassic rocks. Detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the Datong pluton was emplaced in Ordovician time (473.4–447.7 Ma), which places the Datong pluton in an active continental margin setting, rather than a syn-collision setting of Early Silurian age. The Datong host granitoids were derived by partial melting of subducted sediments, with the subsequent melt interacting with the overlying mantle wedge during its ascent. Partial melting of the veined mantle wedge hybridized by sediment-derived melts generated the silica-rich ultrapotassic magma, which was injected into the Datong granitoid magma chamber and quenched, resulting in enclaves hosted by granitoids. This contribution provides evidence that arc magmas can be derived directly by partial melting of subducted sediments, which is helpful to further understand the origin of diverse arc magmas. Aim of the study: To test whether the ITS2 region is an effective marker for use in authenticating of the family Fabaceae which contains many important medicinal plants. Materials and methods: The ITS2 regions of 114 samples in Fabaceae were amplified. Sequence assembly was assembled by CodonCode Aligner V3.0. In combination with sequences from public database, the sequences were aligned by Clustal W, and genetic distances were computed using MEGA V4.0. The intra- vs. inter-specific variations were assessed by six metrics, wilcoxon two-sample tests and “barcoding gaps”. Species identification was accomplished using TaxonGAP V2.4, BLAST1 and the nearest distance method. Results: ITS2 sequences had considerable variation at the genus and species level. The intra-specific divergence ranged from 0% to 14.4%, with an average of 1.7%, and the inter-specific divergence ranged from 0% to 63.0%, with an average of 8.6%. Twenty-four species found in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, along with another 66 species including their adulterants, were successfully identified based on ITS2 sequences. In addition, ITS2 worked well, with over 80.0% of species and 100% of genera being correctly differentiated for the 1507 sequences derived from 1126 species belonging to 196 genera. Conclusions: Our findings support the notion that ITS2 can be used as an efficient and powerful marker and a potential barcode to distinguish various species in Fabaceae. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The Qinling–Dabie–Sulu orogen marks the junction between the North and South China Blocks. However, the exact timing of the final coalescence of the North and South China Blocks in the Qinling orogen is poorly constrained. This paper presents new SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, major and trace elements, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope data for five early Mesozoic granitic plutons across the Qinling orogen. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating shows that four plutons were emplaced in the Carnian (227–218Ma) of Late Triassic with a southward-younging trend and one pluton was emplaced in the Norian (∼211Ma) of Late Triassic. The Carnian plutons consist of high-K calc-alkaline granitoids (quartz monzodiorite, quartz monzonite, granodiorite and monzogranite) and calc-alkaline diorite. These rocks are mainly metaluminous and are characterized by high Sr and low Y and Yb contents, with high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios, and by high Mg#, higher than pure crustal melts. The Norian pluton is composed of high-K calc-alkaline two-mica granites, which are peraluminous. These granites have low Sr and high Y and Yb contents and show similar Mg# to pure crustal melts. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Carnian plutons were emplaced in a continental arc setting coupled with the northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic crust. Partial melting of subducted sediments triggered by dehydration of the underlying igneous oceanic crust, with subsequent melts interacting with the overlying mantle wedge, formed the high-K calc-alkaline granitic magmas. Partial melting of the hybridized peridotitic mantle wedge induced by slab melts generated the calc-alkaline dioritic magma. The Norian pluton was emplaced during continental collision between the South Qinling terrane and South China Block, which marks the final integration of the North and South China Blocks. Partial melting of subducted sediments at a shallow depth (<30km) in the collision (overthrust) zone could account for the origin of the Norian peraluminous granites. Our new data suggest that the final coalescence of the North and South China Blocks in the Qinling orogen is not synchronous with that in the Dabie–Sulu orogen, and thus, the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic basin between the North and South China Blocks most likely occurred as a ‘scissors-like’ shape, with closure in the Anisian (∼240Ma) of Middle Triassic in the eastern part (Dabie–Sulu) and in the Norian (∼211Ma) of Late Triassic in the western part (Qinling). This study uses a waste iron oxide material (BT3), which is a by-product of the fluidized-bed Fenton reaction (FBR-Fenton), for the treatment of a fluoride (F-) solution. The purpose of this study is to investigate a low-cost sorbent as a replacement for the current costly methods of removing fluoride from wastewater. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are used to characterize the BT3. Contact time, F- concentration (from 0.75 to 6 mmol L-1), and temperature (from 303 to 323 K) are used as operation parameters to treat the fluoride. The highest F- adsorption capacity of the BT3 adsorbent was determined to be 1.17 mmol g-1 (22.2 mg g-1) for a 6 mmol L-1 initial F- concentration at pH 3.9 ± 0.2 and 303 ± 1 K. Adsorption data were well described by the Langmuir model, and the thermodynamic constants of the adsorption process, ΔG°, ΔH°, and ΔS°, were evaluated as -1.63 kJ mol-1 (at 303 K), -1.75 kJ mol-1, and -52.4 J mol-1 K-1, respectively. Additionally, a pseudo-second-order rate model was adopted to describe the kinetics of adsorption. The electrokinetic properties of Nd:YAG nanopowder with particles of about 40 nm in diameter were investigated by measuring the zeta potential of a stable YAG (Y3Al5O12) aqueous slurry. Ammonium poly(acrylic acid) polyelectrolyte was used as dispersant to adjust the electrokinetic properties of the Nd:YAG slurry. The effect of the pH of the slurry and of the polyelectrolyte concentration on the stability of the suspension are discussed in this study. The optimal pH value and the amount of dispersant needed to obtain a stable Nd:YAG nanoparticle slurry were determined. Highly consistent Nd:YAG nanoparticle slurries with optimal pH and dispersant concentration were prepared by ball milling. The rheological behavior of Nd:YAG slip with different solid loading (60–70 wt%) has been studied by measuring the viscosity and shear stress as a function of shear rate. Slip with solid loadings of 65 wt% shows near-Newtonian behavior but becomes non-Newtonian with typical shear-thinning behavior above this solid loading value. The density and microstructure of the cast product bears a direct relationship to the state of the slip induced by alternation of the pH and the concentration of the dispersant as well as the solid loading. Abstract: In order to generate powerful radicals as oxidizing species for the complete decolorization and degradation of azo dye Reactive Black B (RBB) at near neutral pH (pH 6), homogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (Oxone: PMS) by the trace Co2+-catalysts was explored. We not only took advantage of the high oxidation–reduction potential of produced hydroxyl and sulfite radicals but also an opportunity to oxidize RBB to less complex compounds with extremely low dosages, especially the ppb level of the Co2+-catalyst (stoichiometric ratio: [Co2+]0/[RBB]0 =1.7×10−6–1.7×10−5; [PMS]0/[RBB]0 =8–32). Anion effects and pH effects were also carried out and discussed to simulate an actual application such as that of a textile waste stream. Both the degradations of RBB and its derivative aromatic fragments were illustrated successfully at UV–visable absorptions of 591 and 310nm, respectively, and the possible relationships between them were also proposed and discussed, based on the experimental results. The RBB degradation in this Co2+/PMS oxidative process successfully formulated a pseudo-first-order kinetic model at an isothermal condition of 25°C with or without different anions present. The initial rate and rate constant were calculated under different comparative conditions, and the results indicate that the activity of both RBB decolorization and its degradation are not obviously dependent on the PMS concentration, but rather are related to the Co2+ dosage. Abstract: Hydrothermal chimney sulfides, vent cap chimney samples, Fe-oxide and basalts from sediment-starving Juan de Fuca Ridge, in the Endeavour segment, exhibit a range of Pb isotope ratios (206Pb/204Pb=18.658–18.769; 207Pb/204Pb=15.457–15.566; 208Pb/204Pb=37.810–38.276). The data array is not parallel to the northern hemisphere mantle reservoirs indicating a possible sediment component within the sulfides. By assuming that the potential end-member sediment component has a 207Pb/204Pb (15.70) similar to Middle Valley sediment, it is suggested the potential end-member sediment component may have 206Pb/204Pb=18.90; 208Pb/204Pb=38.82. Basalt-derived Pb for the Endeavour segment hydrothermal system involves about 50/50 leaching of E-MORB and T2-MORB. Detailed observations show the Mothra field derives more Pb from T2-MORB than the Main Endeavour field does. According to the binary mixing model, the results show little Pb (<1.5%) or no Pb derivation from sedimentary sources. However, the high , CH4 and Br/Cl ratios in hydrothermal fluids are consistent with a sediment component within the segment. Reconciling the Pb isotope data with the chemistry data of hydrothermal fluids, it is suggested that the sediment component may be located in a lower temperature recharge zone where Pb could not be mobilized from the sediment. On the basis of a macroscopic spin wave-diffusion theory we study high-frequency spin transport through a junction composed of a magnetic and a nonmagnetic layer. We illustrate the consequences of the spin wave-diffusion theory for the spatio-temporal dynamics of a spin current, and apply the theory to the calculation of the dynamical impedance of the junction. For low modulation frequencies, our results are in good agreement with those from spin-diffusion theory, but the wave character of spin transport leads to different predictions for the impedance in the high-frequency regime. The quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) is used to predict the cloud point of surfactants. Several structural, electronic, spatial, and thermodynamic properties are selected as descriptors to build the relationship between cloud point and the microscopic structures. These descriptors include the octanol/water partition coefficient AlogP, the total energy, the molecular density, the highest occupied orbital energy EHOMO, Dipole-y and the Dipole-z. Two methods, the multiple linear regression (MLR) and partial least squares (PLS) analysis, were chosen to model the structure-properties relationships. This study investigated the degradation and mineralization of Bisphenol A (BPA) at pH 7, taken as a model compound in the presence of the trace metal-ions, Co2+, and peroxymonosulfate (Oxone: PMS). We took advantage of the high oxidation–reduction potential of hydroxyl and sulfite radicals transformed from PMS as the oxidants to oxidize BPA to less complex compounds (stoichiometric ratio: [PMS]0/[BPA]0 =2). Afterwards, the expected radicals were used to mineralize those compounds more efficiently (TOC removal ∼40%) as compared to the 1% removal demonstrated in the UV/persulfate system in our previous study. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to evidence that the dominant behavior of radicals in a (bi)sulfite process is very different from that in a persulfate process. Additionally, the utilization of extremely small amounts of activator and oxidant for the complete degradation of BPA was achieved. The BPA degradation in this Co2+/PMS process formulated a pseudo-first-order kinetic model well over a practicable range of 25–45°C. The activation energy (ΔE =57.6kJmol−1) was calculated under different conditions, and the detailed discussion indicates that the activity of BPA degradation is not obviously dependent on the PMS concentration, but rather is related to Co2+ dosage. Possible BPA side-chain oxidative metabolic pathways are suggested based on experimental results incorporating the evidence from EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) and analysis from GC–MS (gas chromatography–mass spectrometry). Abstract: Ethnopharmacological relevance: Medicinal plants belonging to the family Polygonaceae in Chinese pharmacopoeia possess important medicinal efficacy in traditional Chinese medicines. Aim of the study: DNA barcodes are first used to discriminate the Polygonaceae in Chinese pharmacopoeia and their adulterants. Materials and methods: DNA samples, extracted from thirty-eight specimens belonging to eighteen species in Polygonaceae, were used as templates. Eight candidate barcodes were amplified by polymerase chain reaction. Sequence analysis was accomplished by CodonCode Aligner V 2.06 and DNAman V 6. Species identification was performed using MEGA V 4.0. Results: The amplification efficiency of six candidate DNA barcodes (rbcL, trnH-psbA, ndhJ, rpoB, rpoC1, accD) was 100%, while the efficiency of YCF5 and nrITS was 56% and 44%, respectively. The interspecific divergence was highest for the trnH-psbA (20.05%), followed by the nrITS (14.01%) across all species pairs, while intraspecific variation both within populations and between populations was absent (0.0%). The trnH-psbA can not only distinguish ten species of Polygonaceae in Chinese pharmacopoeia, but also recognize eight other species of Polygonaceae including their adulterants. Conclusion: Our findings show that DNA barcoding is an efficient tool for identification of Polygonaceae in Chinese pharmacopoeia and their adulterants. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A batch photo-fluidized bed reactor (photo-FBR) is designed for the mineralization of phenol and the minimization of iron species leached from an active immobilized iron oxide (denoted as SiG2). The hydroxyl radical (h is produced from the reaction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and SiG2 under irradiation by a 400-W Hg-vapor lamp, was confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance signals of 5,5-DIMETHYL-1-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO)-us solution). The mineralization of phenol was more efficient in the presence of light. In general, a decrease of solution pH is commonly ascribed to the formation of carboxylic acids (acetic acid, oxalic acid, formic acid etc.) during the degradation of phenol. However, in this study, an interesting phenomenon was observed. The solution pH first decreased and then rose during the reaction in the presence of light. Also, in this case, the variation of solution pH reflected the degree of mineralization in this study. The approximately 98% mineralization of phenol led to fewer iron species being leached from SiG2 in the photo-FBR. A savings of more than 40% of the H2O2 dosage required for the phenol mineralization process was confirmed. In a batch photo-FBR, the system loading reflects the ratio of catalyst weight to the reaction volume. About 96%, 86% and 11% of the total organic carbons were removed after 180min, resulting in catalyst weight to reaction volume ratios of 30:1, 20:1 and 13:1, respectively. The activity of SiG2 did not decline after six reactions. The reactions for photo-assisted SiG2 in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and phenol were summarized. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Most human tumors produce high levels of TGF-β1, whose autocrine and paracrine actions promote tumor cell invasiveness and metastasis. Currently, many experimental therapies that target TGFB1 have utilized antisense DNA or RNA interference (RNAi). Despite the great potential of RNAi, the selection of effective target sites and proper delivery systems for short hairpin RNA (shRNA) remains a significant issue. Here, we used chitosan nanoparticle-mediated delivery of a shRNA-expressing vector to inhibit TGFB1 expression in the human rhabdomyosarcoma cell line RD. Knockdown of TGFB1 by shRNA resulted in a decrease in RD cell growth in vitro and tumorigenicity in nude mice. The efficiency of TGFB1 gene silencing varied with the selection of targeting sites. These data suggest that chitosan nanoparticle-mediated delivery of an shRNA produces efficient TGFB1 knockdown in rhabdomyosarcoma cells and may be a method of choice for shRNA delivery for gene therapy. A two-stage oxidation (UV-Na2S2O8/H2O2-Fe(II,III)) process was applied to mineralize bisphenol A (BPA) at pHi (initial pH) 7. We take advantage of the high oxidation potential of sulfate radicals and use persulfate as the 1st-stage oxidant to oxidize BPA to less complex compounds (stoichiometric ratio: [S2O8 2−]0/[BPA]0 =1). Afterwards, the traditional photo-Fenton process was used to mineralize those compounds to CO2. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to utilize the two processes in conjunction for the complete degradation of BPA. During the 2nd-stage reaction, other oxidants (H2O2 and Iron alone) were also employed to observe the extent of enhancement of photo-Fenton. Further, qualitative identification of both hydroxyl and sulfate radicals was performed to evaluate their dominance under different conditions. The BPA degradation in this UV/persulfate process formulated a pseudo-first-order kinetic model well, with a rate constant of approximately 0.038min−1 (25°C), 0.057min−1 (35°C), and 0.087min−1 (50°C), respectively. The much lower activation energy (ΔE =26kJmol−1) was further calculated to clarify that the thermal-effect of an illuminated system differs from single heat-assisted systems described in other research. Final total organic carbon (TOC) removal levels of BPA by the use of such two-stage oxidation processes were 25–34%, 25%, and 87–91% for additional Fe(II,III) activation, H2O2 promotion, and Fe(II,III)/H2O2 promotions, respectively. Abstract: Within the framework of the dielectric continuum model and Loudon''s uniaxial crystal model, we derive the correct solutions to the half-space optical-phonon modes in strained wurtzite GaN/AlN quantum wells. Considering the strong built-in electric field induced by the spontaneous and piezoelectric polarization, we investigate the intermediate-coupling polaron effects in GaN/AlN quantum wells by means of a coordinate-dependent Lee-Low-Pines variational approach. Our results show that the polaron energy shifts due to the various optical-phonon modes are changed greatly in comparison with the case of neglecting the built-in electric field. For quantum wells with realistic well-width (), the total polaron energy shift mainly comes from the contribution of the interface modes () instead of the confined modes () which is dominant in the case of neglecting the built-in electric field. Abstract: Extensive middle to late Jurassic felsic and mafic magmatism occurred in the southern Hunan province, southeast China. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating, mineral chemical, element geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data have been determined for these rocks. The results indicate that the middle Jurassic (178–170 Ma) Changchengling and Ningyuan basaltic rocks belong to tholeiitic series and alkaline series, respectively, and were formed by fractional crystallization of the parent magmas that were derived from partial melting of asthenospheric mantle triggered by the slab-released fluids of the subducted Paleo-Pacific plate. The late Jurassic (152–146 Ma) Daoxian basalts and Guiyang lamprophyre dikes are low-Ti, high-Mg potassic rocks. They were derived directly by partial melting of shallower (60–100 km) lithospheric mantle composed of amphibole- and phlogopite-bearing lherzolite in response to thermal perturbations associated with the rifting of continental arc. The middle Jurassic (164 Ma) Tongshanling granitic rocks belong to calc-alkaline series and are strongly peraluminous. They were formed by partial melting of Palaeoproterozoic metasedimentary basement in the lower-crust plus additional input from coeval basaltic magma. The late Jurassic (156 Ma) Jinjiling and Xishan granitic rocks show A2 subtype affinity. They were generated by partial melting of granulitized Palaeoproterozoic metamorphic basement in the lower crust in response to injection of coeval low-Ti, high-Mg potassic magmas. A moderate degree (56–58%) of fractionation of these pure crustal melts could account for more felsic end-member of granitic rocks. Detailed petrologic and geochemical data for the middle to late Jurassic felsic and mafic rocks from the southern Hunan imply that during the middle Jurassic time SE China on the southeast of the Shi-Hang zone was a continental arc coupled with the subduction of the Palaeo-Pacific plate and since the beginning of late Jurassic time an intra-arc rift has been formed along the Shi-Hang zone as a consequence of slab roll-back. Survival and replication inside host cells by Brucella spp. requires a type IV secretion system (T4SS), encoded by the virB locus. However, the identity of the molecules secreted by the T4SS has remained elusive. We hypothesized that proteins translocated by the T4SS would be co-regulated with the virB operon. The LuxR family regulator VjbR, known to regulate virB, bound a fragment of the virB promoter containing an 18 bp palindromic motif ( virB promoter box), showing that VjbR regulated the virB operon directly. To identify virB co-regulated genes, we searched the Brucella suis 1330 and B. abortus 2308 genomes for genes with an upstream virB promoter box. One hundred and forty-four promoters in the two genomes contained the virB promoter box, including those of fliC encoding flagellin and cgs encoding cyclic β-glucan synthetase. Thirteen of these proteins were tested for VirB-dependent translocation into macrophages using a β-lactamase reporter assay. This analysis resulted in the identification of the proteins encoded by BAB1_1652 (VceA) and BR1038/BAB1_1058 (VceC) as novel protein substrates of the Brucella T4SS. VceC could also be translocated by the Legionella pneumophila Dot/Icm T4SS into host cells. Abstract: This paper presents detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of three intrusive plagiogranite bodies formed in an island arc setting within the Oytag ophiolite suite of the Oytag–Kuda Suture Zone. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating of two of these intrusions shows that they were emplaced into the Oytag volcanic rocks at 337.5±4.1 Ma and 327.7±4.9 Ma, and that the younger intrusion contains inherited zircons ranging from 435.3 to 480.8 Ma. Both intrusions are composed of low-Al trondhjemite and tonalite. The rocks have low K2O and Sr and high Y contents with low Sr/Y ratios. They have relatively low rare earth element (REE) concentrations and are depleted in light REE (LREE) and relatively enriched in heavy REE (HREE), with marked negative Eu anomalies in the chondrite-normalized REE patterns. They have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7048 to 0.7068 and ε Nd (T) values of 6.2 to 7.6, which are lower than those of typical MORB. In situ Hf isotopic compositions of zircons with Early Carboniferous age from both intrusions are characterized by positive initial ε Hf values, ranging from +12.5 to +19.5, similar to typical MORB. The inherited Ordovician zircons in the younger intrusion have initial ε Hf values of −1.9 to +3.1, similar to zircons from Ordovician granitoids in the region. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Oytag plagiogranites were formed in an oceanic island arc setting, by differentiation of arc tholeiitic magmas that formed in response to the intra-oceanic subduction. The inherited zircons are interpreted as the xenocrysts captured from the incipient oceanic crust that contains relicts of discrete fragments of continental crust with Ordovician zircons, through which the plagiogranite was emplaced. The Oytag ophiolite suite might be the remnants of an ancient island arc, the basement of which was the incipient oceanic crust. The Oytag–Kuda Suture Zone is suggested to be a multiple suture zone that represents the remnants of both the Proto-Tethyan and Paleo-Tethyan oceans. The western Kunlun orogen was therefore not a long-lived active continental margin during the early and late Paleozoic times. Abstract: Immobilized iron oxides on silica matrixes in fluidized bed reactors, including SiG1, SiG2, C1, and the commercial catalyst FeOOH, were used in the catalytic decomposition of H2O2 and the catalytic degradation of phenol. They were characterized using XRD, SEM, N2-sorption, and elucidation of the kinetics of dissolved iron by oxalic acid in dark surroundings. XRD patterns reveal that SiG1, SiG2, and C1 exhibit amorphous structures, and FeOOH exhibits the poor crystallinity of goethite. The SEM images reveal that the surfaces of all the iron oxides are smooth and that the iron oxides are aggregated by the iron oxide floc. The N2-sorption isotherm indicates that SiG1 and SiG2 are non-porous materials, and that C1 and FeOOH are typical type II and typical type IV materials, respectively. A kinetic model for iron dissolved by oxalic acid is established. The order of apparent first-order dissolution rate constants (k c) is SiG1>SiG2>FeOOH∼C1. The immobilized iron oxides, SiG1 and SiG2, are weakly bonded to the support (silica sand) in the presence of oxalic acid. The decomposition of H2O2 follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. The number of active sites for the decomposition of H2O2 is similar among all iron oxides at a particular k app (1.8×10−3 min−1). There are no interactions between phenol and iron oxides in the absence of hydrogen peroxide at pH 4. SiG1 and SiG2 exhibit much higher catalytic activities in phenol degradation than either C1 or FeOOH. The reactivity of iron oxides in catalyzing the phenol degradation by H2O2 relates to the tendency of iron to be dissolved by oxalic acid. The intermediates of phenol degradation, such as catechol and oxalic acid, promote the dissolution of iron from SiG1 and SiG2 by reductive and non-reductive pathways and lower the pH values. Abstract: This study makes a comparison between photo-Fenton and a novel electro-Fenton called Fered–Fenton to study the mineralization of 10,000mg/L of dye-Reactive Black B (RBB) aqueous solution, which was chosen as the model dye contaminant. Results indicate that the traditional Fenton process only yields 70% mineralization. This result can be improved by using Fered–Fenton to yield 93% mineralization resulting from the action of ferrous ion regenerated on the cathode. Furthermore, photo-Fenton allows a fast and more complete destruction of dye solutions and as a result of the action of ferrous ion regenerated by UV irradiation yields more than 98% mineralization. In all treatments, the RBB is rapidly decayed to some carboxylic acid intermediates. The major intermediates found are formic acid and oxalic acid. This study finds that formic acid can be completely mineralized by photo-Fenton, but its destruction is problematic using the Fenton method. Oxalic acid is much more difficult to treat than other organic acids. It could get further mineralization with the use of the Fered–Fenton process. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This study presents a strategy-aligned fuzzy simple multiattribute rating technique (SMART) approach for solving the supplier/vendor selection problem from the perspective of strategic management of the supply chain (SC). The majority of supplier rating systems obtained their optimal solutions without considering firm operations management (OM)/SC strategy. The proposed system utilizes OM/SC strategy to identify supplier selection criteria. A fuzzy SMART is applied to evaluate the alternative suppliers, and deals with the ratings of both qualitative and quantitative criteria. The final decision-maker incorporates the supply risks of individual suppliers into final decision making. Finally, an empirical study is conducted to demonstrate the procedure of the proposed system and identify the suitable supplier(s). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Aluminum alloy high-speed milling is commonly utilized in the aircraft, aerospace, mold, and other sectors, and its cutting force characteristics will have an important impact on the final machining quality of parts. The cutting force characteristics of high-speed milling of an aluminum alloy workpiece using a ball end milling cutter were investigated in this research. A three-dimensional finite element dynamic simulation model was developed for the high-speed milling of ball-end milling cutters. Firstly, the benefit of tool axis vector inclination angle in multi-axis machining was discussed, and the inclination angle of the tool axis vector in multi-axis machining was characterized more precisely. The three-dimensional model of the ball-end milling cutter was established according to the actual machining, and in order to simulate the machining process, it was put into a finite element analysis system. The rotation and intermittent cutting of the tool were considered in the simulation process, which was in good agreement with the actual machining process. In a finite element simulation environment, the cutting force under 25 groups of rake inclination angles was simulated, and verification milling tests on a five-axis machine were carried out. According to the results, the general trend of the maximum cutting force in all directions was in good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, the range of the rake inclination angle with less cutting force and more stable cutting force in multi-axis machining was given. The results also confirmed the reliability of the simulation results, and provided a reference for the finite element simulation of other metal cutting processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
