Abstract

In spite of a large technical literature, an efficient climate control of a greenhouse remains a very difficult task. Indeed, this process is a complex nonlinear system with strong meteorological disturbances. The newly introduced "model-free control" setting is employed here. It is easy to implement, and has already shown excellent performances in many other concrete domains. Successful experimental tests are presented and discussed. 280. Closed-Loop Fault-Tolerant Control for Uncertain Nonlinear Systems.

Abstract

We are designing, perhaps for the first time, closed-loop fault-tolerant control for uncertain nonlinear systems. Our solution is based on a new algebraic estimation technique of the derivatives of a time signal, which ∙ yields good estimates of the unknown parameters and of the residuals, i.e., of the fault indicators, ∙ is easily implementable in real time, ∙ is robust with respect to a large variety of noises, without any necessity of knowing their statistical properties. Convincing numerical simulations are provided via a popular case-study in the diagnosis community, namely the three-tank system, which may be characterized as a flat hybrid system. Abstract

For constant linear systems we introduce the class of exact integral observers which yield generalized PID regulators with good robustness properties. When utilized in conjunction with static state feedbacks they permit to bypass classical asymptotic observers. Three illustrative examples are examined:1.a classical PID controller where we replace the derivative term by appropriate integral ones;2.a generalized PID for a second order system with a non-trivial zero dynamics;3.a real DC motor without mechanical sensors. Our approach, which is mainly of algebraic flavour, is based on the module-theoretic framework for linear systems and on operational calculus in Mikusiński's setting. Abstract

In this paper, a new system equivalence relation, using the framework of differential geometry of jets and prolongations of infinite order, is studied. In this setting, two systems are said to be equivalent if any variable of one system may be expressed as a function of the variables of the other system and of a finite number of their time derivatives. This is a Lie-Backlund isomorphism. This quite natural, though unusual, equivalence is presented in an elementary way by the inverted pendulum and the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The authors prove that, although the state dimension is not preserved, the number of input channels is kept fixed. They also prove that a Lie-Backlund isomorphism can be realized by an endogenous feedback, i.e., a special type of dynamic feedback. Differentially flat nonlinear systems, which were introduced by the authors in 1992 via differential algebraic techniques, are generalized here and the new notion of orbitally flat systems is defined. They correspond to systems which are equivalent to a trivial one, with time preservation or not. Trivial systems are, in turn, equivalent to any linear controllable system with the same number of inputs, and consequently fiat systems are linearizable by endogenous feedback. The endogenous linearizing feedback is explicitly computed in the case of the VTOL aircraft to track given reference trajectories with stability; simulations are presented.
