Epitaxially grown Al film was obtained on 36°-rotated Y-cut LiTaO3 substrate by an IBS system. The epitaxial relation was (111)Al//(012)LiTaO3. The Al film had very high resistance to stress migration. In SAW filters, time to failure caused by stress migration was improved by more than 100 times over an ordinary polycrystalline Al–Cu film.

A method for encoding syllables of a language, particularly the Japanese language, and for facilitating the extraction of sound codes from the input syllables, for voice recognition or voice synthesis includes the step of providing a syllable classifying table, in which each syllable is represented by an upper byte code indicating the consonant part of the syllable and a lower byte code indicating the non-consonant part of the syllable. The consonants constitute a first category of data classified by phonetic features, while the non-consonants constitute a second category of data classified by phonetic features, so that the extraction of consonant or non-consonant sounds can be made by a search in only the first or the second categories. The encoding of diphthongs are made in such a manner that those containing the same vowel have the same remainder corresponding to the code of this vowel, when the codes are divided by the number of vowels contained in the second category, so that the extraction of a vowel from diphthongs can be achieved by a simple mathematical division.

A deposition process of epitaxial Al film on a quartz substrate was studied to obtain Al electrodes of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices having high resistance to stress migration. A vapor deposition system was used under relatively moderate deposition conditions: (1) pressure range of 10-5 Pa; (2) deposition temperature of 150°C; (3) deposition rate in the range of 120∼240 nm/min. The growth mode of epitaxial Al film differed from that of polycrystalline Al film on quartz.

This electrode had very high resistance to stress migration. In SAW resonators, time to failure caused by stress migration was improved by more than 2000 times and power handling capability was increased by at least 10 times over an ordinary polycrystalline Al–Cu electrode. Epitaxially grown Al electrode was also obtained on LST-cut quartz substrate.

A new experimental model is presented, using isohistogenic Lewis rats and microsurgical techniques. Transplantation of the head and forelimbs of the infantile rat was done to the groin of an adult rat. The goal was to study the effects of ischemia on brain tissue. This model also proved useful for other experiments in studies of facial and cranial bone growth. The model presented proved efficient for the study goals, and long-term experiments were possible. The maximum ischemia time tolerated by brain tissue was found to be somewhere between 60 min and 120 min.

The characteristics of the in-beam electron impact mass spectra of 13 N-carbobenzoxyoligopeptides (up to pentapeptides) composed mainly of leucine and isoleucine, and their alkyl and N-hydroxysuccinimide esters are described. In the cases of di- and tripeptide derivatives, each in-beam electron impact spectrum exhibited an abundant [M + 1]+ peak as well as amino-acyl fragments. However, in the case of pentapeptides the in-beam spectra measured under the routine conditions corresponded to the conventional electron impact spectra of the cyclopeptide derivatives formed by thermal cyclization in the mass spectrometer and few [M + 1]+ ions of the original peptides were observed. From the studies on temperature spectral change of in-beam electron impact spectra it became clear that rapid heating of the sample over the temperature range 200-300 degrees C gave abundant [M + 1]+ ions as well as fragment ions originating from the thermally intact peptide as the major peaks in the spectrum.

短絡術後の小児水頭症28例に対し, 脳幹機能の障害の有無を検討する目的でABR検査を行うとともに, MLR, SVRの検討も加えた。 その結果,1. ABRに異常を認めたものは28例中6例で, 先天性重度水頭症 (脳形成不全性水頭症) に高頻度に異常が見られた。 キアリ奇形II型では脳幹形態の異常が明らかであるにもかかわらず, ABR上の変化は認めなかった。2. 今回のABR検査の結果から, 先天性重度水頭症とキアリ奇形II型とでは脳幹の聴覚路に及ぼす影響が異なることが推測された。3. MLR, またはSVRに異常を示したものが61%存在した。 なかでも, ABRは正常であったがMLRとSVRともに異常であったものが37%存在した。4. MLR, SVR検査の結果から, 水頭症例は脳幹よりもさらに高位中枢の聴覚路に影響を及ぼすことが多いと思われた。

聴力正常と判定された乳幼児20名を対象に, 緩徐波成分の動態について速波+緩徐波成分のそれと比較検討した。 緩徐波成分に関してはフイルタ帯域を10-200Hzで, また速波+緩徐波成分に関しては10-2000Hzで記録した。 V波潜時近傍の緩徐成分における陽性ピークとそれに続く陰性ピークをそれぞれP, Nとし, 検討した。 これらの出現率は, 大きかったが, 安定性に関しては, どの年齢においてもばらつきが大きかった。 幼小児のABRの特徴としてII波に続く大きな陰性波を認めたが, このためか緩徐波成分は二峰性になる例が多かった。

In order to examine whether or not facial bones are themselves able to regulate their own growth, we devised a new experimental model in which we transplanted the whole head of an infant rat to the body of an isohistogeneic adult rat by means of microvascular anastomoses. The advantage of this model is that the transplanted head has neither scars nor any moving soft tissues that could modify growth around facial bones. Using this model, we conducted a study of the nasomaxillary region that has led us to conclude that facial bones do in fact regulate their own growth. The results also suggested that facial bone sutures play a more active role in the growth process than presently suspected.

A new cyclic peptide, viscumamide (C30H55N5O5) was isolated from Viscum album Linn. var. coloratum Ohwi, and the structure Ia (Remark: Graphics omitted.) was assigned to this substance from gas-chromatographic studies on the products of partial hydrolysis.

天然プテリジン化合物の構造研究に, 質量スペクトルを利用する目的で, まず合成で得た簡単なプテリン誘導体, および2, 4-ジアミノブテリジン誘導体をアセチル化し, 質量スペクトルを測定し, そのフラグメンテーションの解析を行なった。プテリン, 6-メチルプテリン, 6, 7-ジメチルプテリンにおいては, 脱ケテン (-COCH2) ののち, ピリミジン環のHN3NC2からの開裂がおもに起こり, つぎにC4Oが脱離する。同時にピラジン環からの開裂も起こり,N8C7R (R=H, CH3) を脱離する。キサントプテリン誘導体では, N8C7R (R=H, CH3) の脱離からはじまり, またイソキサントプテリン誘導体では, ピラジン環からC7Oを脱離し, ブリン骨格を形成し, のちの開裂はグアニン誘導体の開裂と同じになることを見いだした。各化合物の質量スペクトルを図示し, そのフラグメンテーションを準安定イオンピークにより推定し, 考察を加えた。

This study describes the flow and thermal field ofatwo-tower fluidized receiver, aimed tobeincorporated into a beam-down reflector system.Anexperimental visualization and numerical simulation were made to accumulate phenomenological knowledge, in order to complete the design of ademonstration model.Visualization of the cold particle bed with no irradiation revealed that global circulation occurs between the two towers by the aeration with different line velocities.The numerical simulation revealed that this global circulation enhancesthe transport of sensible heat from the irradiated layer in the high pressure tower to the low pressure tower.The global circulation in the two-tower fluidized receiver has the potential to be extended foruse inathermal receiver and direct storage system.Unexpectedly, local circulations occur on the high and low pressure sides, and are stronger than the global circulation.These local circulations contribute tothe thermal mixing in each tower.The bottom distributor onthe low pressure side can cause an uprising flowwhichleadsto the local circulation.The design of the distributor is suggested to be elaborated based on these findings.

A new flavonoid glycoside, taxillusin was isolated from Taxillus kaempferi (DC.) Danser and (2R,3R)-taxifolin 3-β-D-glucopyranoside 6″-gallate was assigned to this substance from studies on the hydrolysis products and from analyses of the 1H-NMR and carbon-13 NMR spectra.

Neurilemomas are relatively rare tumors deriving from cells within the neurilemma and therefore may be found in any part of the body.1 Usually a slow-growing mass, they are mostly observed in adults.2 We wish to present a case of neurilemoma deriving from the ansa cervicalis, which appears to be extremely rare.

Since 1979 we have performed midf ace advancement in six patients with Crouzon’s disease. Follow-ups of more than 4 years have been possible in three patients who were operated on at the ages of 4, 4, and 22 years. A good improvement was obtained in all three cases in the early stages, but this did not continue. We present two patients aged 4 in whom exophthalmos again became pronounced in the second postoperative year.

5 pags., 5 figs., The microhardness of films of fullerene-polyethylene composites prepared by gelation from semidilute solution, using ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (PE) (6 × 106), has been determined. The composite materials were characterized by optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. The microhardness of the films is shown to increase notably with the concentration of fullerene particles within the films. In addition, a substantial hardening of the composites is obtained after annealing the materials at high temperatures (Ta = 130°C) and long annealing times (ta = 105 s). The hardening of the composites with annealing temperature has been identified with the thickening of the PE crystalline lamellae. Comparison of X-ray scattering data and the microhardness values upon annealing leads to the conclusion of phase separation of C60 molecules from the polyethylene crystals within the material. The temperature dependence is discussed in terms of the independent contribution of the PE matrix of the C60 aggregates to the hardness value. © 1996 Chapman & Hall.

Introduction Previous studies evaluating whether subsequent conversion to shockable rhythms in patients who had initially non-shockable rhythms was associated with altered clinical outcome reported inconsistent results. Therefore, we hypothesized that subsequent shock delivery by emergency medical service (EMS) providers altered clinical outcomes in patients with initially non-shockable rhythms. Methods We tested for an association between subsequent shock delivery in EMS resuscitation and clinical outcomes in patients with initially non-shockable rhythms (n = 11,481) through a survey of patients after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the Kanto region (SOS-KANTO) 2012 study cohort, Japan. The primary investigated outcome was 1-month survival with favorable neurological functions. The secondary outcome variable was the presence of subsequent shock delivery. We further evaluated the association of interval from initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation to shock with clinical outcomes. Results In the univariate analysis of initially non-shockable rhythms, patients who received subsequent shock delivery had significantly increased frequency of return of spontaneous circulation, 24-hour survival, 1-month survival, and favorable neurological outcomes compared to the subsequent not shocked group (P P = 0.0020, odds ratio, 2.78; 95 % confidence interval, 1.45–5.30). Younger age, witnessed arrest, initial pulseless electrical activity rhythms, and cardiac etiology were significantly associated with the presence of subsequent shock in patients with initially non-shockable rhythms. Conclusions In this study of cardiac arrest patients with initially non-shockable rhythms, patients who received early defibrillation by EMS providers had increased 1-month favorable neurological outcomes.

Introduction We developed a protocol to initiate surgical source control immediately after admission (early source control) and perform initial resuscitation using early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) for gastrointestinal (GI) perforation with associated septic shock. This study evaluated the relationship between the time from admission to initiation of surgery and the outcome of the protocol. Methods This examination is a prospective observational study and involved 154 patients of GI perforation with associated septic shock. We statistically analyzed the relationship between time to initiation of surgery and 60-day outcome, examined the change in 60-day outcome associated with each 2 hour delay in surgery initiation and determined a target time for 60-day survival.
