Multi-path Transmission Control Protocol (MP-TCP) Coupled Congestion Control algorithm focuses on amalgamating the increased BandWidth (BW) of multiple available links while avoiding MP-TCP's higher aggressiveness in comparison to usual TCP flows on every utilized link. Therefore, this leads to exceedingly conventional behavior when the network paths do not share a congested link. Further, the situation worsens when the network paths possess varying characteristics (i.e., available BW, Packet Loss Rate (PLR), and delay), leading to incurring overheads such as higher re-ordering, buffer-blocking, and needless retransmissions in the network. We observe that the presently implemented MP-TCP scheduler suffers from lower channel utilization due to its conventional congestion window (cwnd) adaptation scheme. As a result, the protocol compromises application-level throughput performance. To address these issues, we propose an Adaptive-Data Scheduling Policy (A-DSP), which dynamically adjusts the cwnd growth according to the paths' Round Trip Time (RTT) variations. To regulate the transmission rate of each path concerning its assessed RTT variation, we design and implement an adaptive fast retransmission policy as well. The evaluations indicate that A-DSP decreases the File Transfer Time by over 50% compared to the MP-TCP scheduler. We also observe throughput performance gains of up to 46%, 19%, and 34% for different PLR, BW, and path delay values, respectively, compared to MP-TCP. Summary: With the fast progress of the Internet and communication technologies, the digital communication is increasingly based on the architecture of TCP/IP. Nevertheless, in TCP/IP's architecture, there are limitations such as data uncertainty and flow overloading. In response to this, a novel architecture has been proposed, which is known as the named data network (NDN). Named data network is an alternative network architecture based on the data each user accesses. Users gain accesses to the data by using an adjacent router (node) that verifies the correctness of the data. In NDN, the router has the capability to store and search for the data. Hence, this architecture largely improves the disadvantages in TCP/IP's architecture. Named data network is a new proposal and relatively under‐researched now. Thus far, an adequate secure file transfer protocol is still unavailable for NDN. In some cases, files are broken or the source fails to authenticate, which results in the need to discover the owner of the file. Furthermore, we believe that NDN should involve an authentication mechanism in the secure file transfer protocol. In view of the above, this paper presents an authenticated re‐encryption scheme for NDN, which offers sender authentication, data confidentiality, and support for potential receivers. Abstract In the maritime Very High Frequency (VHF) band, there are no systems for transmitting large amounts of data. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new systems that would modernize the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), significantly relieve the Automatic Identification System’s (AIS) communication channels, and set guidelines for the development of communication infrastructure of the e-Navigation. In line with this, analytical and simulation models of the maritime VHF data transmission communication system using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation are worked out in this paper. The achieved data rate, the spectral efficiency and the bit error rate (BER) represent validation parameters on which the results of the analytical and simulation models are evaluated. It is concluded that the application of the digital OFDM modulation in the maritime VHF band may improve the GMDSS system by achieving higher data rates compared to the current terrestrial mandatory systems for data exchange, i.e. Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and AIS. Effective file transfer is fundamental to many applications in highway Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), e.g., social network applications, advertisement distributions, road traffic report, etc. However, due to the sparse development of roadside units (or access points) and the limited connection time between fast-moving vehicles, file transfer is susceptible to frequent interruptions, and accordingly resulting in incomplete file transfers. The incomplete file transfer leads to not only poor user performance with application playback failures, but also a colossal waste of bandwidth. To tackle this issue, in this paper, we consider a bi-directional highway vehicular network scenario where request vehicle and source vehicle are in the opposite direction, and propose a fuzzy logic-based cooperative file transfer scheme (FL-CFT). With the proposed scheme, the request file can be transferred completely from the source vehicle to request vehicle through multiple relay cluster members. As for the selection of relays, in general, finding an optimal relay subject to multiple constrains is an NP-complete problem that cannot be exactly solved in polynomial time. Accordingly, a fuzzy logic approach is utilized to optimally selects relays to help transfer the file and ensure the file integrity, which considers the relative velocity, distance, and predicted connection time among vehicles. The proposed scheme is self-organized and fully distributed, which does not require any assistance from roadside units (or access points). Most methods of file transfer between mobile devices have to take considerable time to obtain and input target identifiers. To speed up file sharing of mobile devices, an intelligent file transfer framework is designed based on mobile cloud computing. Only single-finger action is performed in the proposed framework, which just drags the file to the target face on the touchscreen of a mobile device. The dragged file can be transmitted to the target receiver who can either get the file immediately as her/his mobile device is online or receive the file later after connecting to the Internet. Our framework provides the following features: (i) users do not need to know the target identifier in advance; (ii) users do not need to input identity information by themselves; and (iii) users can select a specific target among multiple candidates from the camera of a mobile device. The intelligent file transfer framework reveals an efficient architecture and innovative user interfaces to transfer files between mobile devices, which can significantly reduce the complexity and difficulty of file sharing. An Android-based prototype is implemented to verify the feasibility and superiority of our framework. There are many private or confidential files stored in computers or transferred on the Internet. People worry and even fear their security problems, such as stealing, breaking, forging, and so on, and urgently need a both secure and highly efficient (for better experience) file protecting system. Thus, we propose and implement a secure and efficient file protecting system (SEFPS) for this demand. SEFPS based on advanced SHA3 (Secure Hash Algorithm 3) and parallel AES (Advance Encryption Standard) can provide the protection of both confidentiality and integrity, and produce high performance by GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) parallelism or/and CPU (Central Processing Unit) parallelism. Correspondingly, SEFPS has three variants for GPU parallelism, CPU parallelism, and both of them. The first variant includes CPU Parallel Protecting (CPP) and CPU Parallel Unprotecting (CPUP). The second variant includes GPU Parallel Protecting (GPP) and GPU Parallel Unprotecting (GPUP). The third variant includes Hybrid Parallel Protecting (HPP) and Hybrid Parallel Unprotecting (HPUP). We design and implement them, and evaluate their performance on two representative platforms by some experiments. HPP and HPUP outperform GPP and GPUP, respectively, and outperform CPP and CPUP more. For those computers not equipped with Nvidia GPUs, CPP and CPUP can be employed, because they still outperform CSP and CSUP, respectively, where CSP and CSUP denote the serial implementation of SEFPS for protecting and for unprotecting, respectively. Moreover, we also prove the security of SEFPS in terms of integrity and confidentiality. In this paper, we propose a fully reliable file-transfer framework with application layer forward error correction (AL-FEC) in satellite communications on the move (SOTM) systems. In particular, the proposed framework uses a two-way acknowledgement (ACK) exchange mechanism. The proposed framework is implemented into a performance-enhancing proxy to minimize the system change. Furthermore, we analyze the file-transfer time of the proposed framework by Markov chain. The analysis results show that the proposed framework outperforms TCP in terms of the file-transfer time and the goodput. Delay/disruption tolerant networking (DTN) offers a solution to communications in ?challenged? networks. Some work has been seen in evaluating the performance of DTN protocols based on simulated or emulated file transfer experiments. However, there is a need for a model of the performance of the DTN Licklider transmission protocol (LTP), which particularly targets reliable data transmission in deep space. In this paper, we present a performance model of LTP-based DTN data transmission in challenging communications characterized by extremely long signal propagation delay, lengthy link disruptions, and highly lossy channels that are typical of deep-space links. Many methods have been introduced to establish a secure multicast communication between different nodes in the network, but these methods have not achieved the secured data transfer. This article explains the most significant way for the key distribution among the nodes, so that any outside infringement won't be able to access the data as well as the key. It is considered the bandwidth bottleneck problem arising in ISO 11783 networks of mobile farm equipments when large file transfers are performed. To overcome this problem, a compression protocol called ISOBUSComp allowing the implementation of dynamic (“on the fly”) data compression services for general ISO11783 file transfers is proposed. As a result, transmitting Electronic Control Units are free to choose any data compression technique they wish and receiving Electronic Control Units need not to be aware of such decisions, but just be able to process a suitable Universal Decompression Virtual Machine. Comprehensive simulation studies show that dynamic data compression services built upon the proposed protocol help to reduce bus utilization of ISO 11783 networks between a 28% and a 63%, thus speeding up the time for large file transfers. Abstract: Server performance is one of the critical activities in the data grid environment. A large number of applications require access to huge volumes of data from grid servers. In this case, efficient, scalable and robust grid server which can deal with large file transfer concurrent is needed. In this paper, we analyze the bottleneck of our grid servers and introduce user-space I/O scheduling, zero copy and event-driven architecture in our grid server to improve the servers’ performance. The user-space I/O scheduling can save almost 50% I/O time in a huge number of small files transfer. Grid servers can elimination CPU consumptions between kernel and user space by zero copy and cut 63% times for context switches. Event-driven architecture will save 30% CPU usage to reach the best performance by thread-driven architecture. Optimization method combination of these three above are used in our grid servers, the full-load throughput of our system is 30% more than traditional solutions and only 60% CPU consumed compared with traditional solutions. Abstract: We study the broadcast scheduling problem in which clients send their requests to a server in order to receive some files available on the server. The server may be scheduled in a way that several requests are satisfied in one broadcast. When files are transmitted over computer networks, broadcasting the files by fragmenting them provides flexibility in broadcast scheduling that allows the optimization of per user response time. The broadcast scheduling algorithm, then, is in charge of determining the number of segments of each file and their order of transmission in each round of transmission. In this paper, we obtain a closed form approximation formula which approximates the optimal number of segments for each file, aiming at minimizing the total response time of requests. The obtained formula is a function of different parameters including those of underlying network as well as those of requests arrived at the server. Based on the obtained approximation formula we propose an algorithm for file broadcast scheduling which leads to total response time which closely conforms to the optimum one. We use extensive simulation and numerical study in order to evaluate the proposed algorithm which reveals high accuracy of obtained analytical approximation. We also investigate the impact of various headers that different network protocols add to each file segment. Our segmentation approach is examined for scenarios with different file sizes at the range of 100 KB to 1 GB. Our results show that for this range of file sizes the segmentation approach shows on average 13% tolerance from that of optimum in terms of total response time and the accuracy of the proposed approach is growing by increasing file size. The IEC 61850-based substation automation system (SAS) provides opportunities for a new level of substation operation, enhancing operating efficiency and protection reliability with a new environment based on an Ethernet-based communication network and high-performance intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). With these changes, importance and dependence on IEDs are increasing rapidly in IEC 61850-based substations. While consideration of protection device faults has so far been infrequent, IED faults will become increasingly important in the future. Thus, this paper proposes a design of a backup IED for protection IED faults in IEC 61850-based substations. The proposed backup IED can be remotely converted into any type of protection IED without IED exchange, firmware update, or field control. The backup IED was designed through SCL engineering and file transfer functions in IEC 61850 and implemented by Windows programming with a commercially available IEC 61850 library. In this paper, the energy efficiency performance of device-to-device (D2D) communications in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing cellular networks is studied. Different from previous work that was based on the static interference model, we assume a dynamic number of competing flows, such as continuous transfers of file transport protocol or web browsing sessions. The complex, dynamic interaction of the amount of backlogged traffic at the D2D and cellular links introduced by the strong impact of interference between them is captured by the coupled-processors server in the formulated model. The energy efficiency and spectral efficiency of the different resource-sharing strategies are analyzed using the semidefinite optimization approach. The data transmission in wireless networks is usually analyzed under the assumption of non-stationary rates. Nevertheless, they strictly depend on the time of day, that is, the intensity of arrival and daily workload profiles confirm this fact. In this article, we consider the process of downloading a file within a single network segment and unsteady speeds—for arrivals, file sizes, and losses due to impatience. To simulate the scenario, a queuing system with elastic traffic with non-stationary intensity is used. Formulas are given for the main characteristics of the model: the probability of blocking a new user, the average number of users in service, and the queue. A method for calculating the boundaries of convergence of the model is proposed, which is based on the logarithmic norm of linear operators. The boundaries of the rate of convergence of the main limiting characteristics of the queue length process were also established. A zero-index metamaterial (ZIM) structure is proposed for the gain enhancement of an antipodal tapered slot antenna (ATSA) at 60-GHz bands. The single ATSA loaded with the proposed ZIM cells exhibits a gain enhancement of up to 2.6 dB in the frequency band of 57–66 GHz. A prototype of a two-element ATSA array loaded with the ZIM cells measures a \vert S11 \vert of less than -10~dB and gain of 12–13.2 dBi over 57–66 GHz. This paper outlines the way the planning/scheduling applications can be solved using the optimization potential of the Choco CSP solver. Consequently two specific problems which can be applied in various fields were described in this paper. The first one is a pure planning problem and supposes that a factory should manufacture products ordered by a client in the shortest time possible. The second one is a scheduling problem regarding simultaneous file transmission-visualization, where the task is to determine the start moments of the copy operations. This article critically reviews the materials, processing and reliability of InP high electron mobility transistors (InP HEMTs) for future terahertz wave applications. The factors such as drain current (I D) over 1200 mA/mm, transconductance (g m) over 3000 mS/mm, cut off frequency (f T) over 700 GHz and maximum oscillation frequency (f max) over 1300 GHz makes InP HEMTs suitable for Terahertz wave applications. Furthermore, low DC power consumption and outstanding low noise performance makes InP HEMT most appropriate transistor technology for the development of space based receivers. This review article critically assesses the challenges in miniaturization of InP HEMTs, doping strategies in InP HEMTs, buried platinum technology, impact of annealing process and temperature, influence of electron and proton irradiation, thermal and bias stress on the reliability of InP HEMTs, cavity and gating effects and influence of trapping effects. InP HEMTs are very much preferable in applications like radio astronomy, terahertz optical and wireless communication systems, atmospheric imaging and sensing, automotive radar, ground based receivers in deep space networks, terahertz imaging and sensing, biomedical applications, security screening, video conferencing & real time multimedia file transfer, high speed and ultra low power digital integrated circuits. In this paper, we propose an enhanced file transfer mechanism for a communication framework (CM) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Our previous file transfer method uses a basic non-blocking communication channel and thread for the CM (non-blocking method), but this method has a cost of adding additional bytes to each original file block. Therefore, it is not suitable for the transfer of large-sized files. Other existing file transfer methods use a separate channel to transfer large-sized files. However, the creation of a separate channel increases the total transmission delay as the transfer frequency increases. The proposed method uses a dedicated blocking communication channel in a separate thread (blocking method). The blocking method uses a separate channel and thread which are dedicated to transferring file blocks. As it creates the separate channel in advance before the file transfer task, the proposed method does not have an additional channel creation cost at the moment of the file transfer. Through file transfer experiments, the blocking method showed a shorter file transfer time than the non-blocking method, and the transmission delay was increased as the file size grew. By supporting both non-blocking and blocking methods, an application can flexibly select the desirable method according to its requirement. If the application requires the transfer of small-sized files infrequently, it can use the non-blocking method.
