In glass industry, the evolved gases and fumes from burning the gas fuel absorbed in calcium hydroxide to minimize the pollution of environment. After a period of time, the calcium hydroxide fouled with sulphate and carbonate as action of the absorbed SO3 and CO2 gases. Based on our interest to treatment the solid waste materials, this study intended to convert the obtained waste of calcium hydroxide fouled with gases to valuable products. Firstly, this waste was treated with water, caustic soda and acids. The results confirmed the conversion of waste to pure calcium sulfate by treatment with 6 v/v% sulfuric acid. Secondly, the obtained calcium sulfate was reacted with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate solution for preparation of calcium hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles. The produced HAp sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and N2 adsorption measurements. The obtained findings confirmed that the HAp can be produced after calcination at 700 °C, nanorods-like of sizes ranged from 11 to 15 nm and with main surface functional groups of hydroxyapatite. TGA and DTA data indicated that HAp is thermally stable up to 700 °C. Also, the obtained HAp has Ca/P molar ratio of 1.60 and exhibited high total surface area of 146 m2/g with mesoporous structure which make this material can be used in medical and water purification applications. Roadmapping is a widely known methodology to aid technological planning within organizations, and its use has been extended to inter-organizational collaborative contexts. During the pandemic, teams were compelled to work remotely and adapt to this new reality. This article brings a case study of a collaborative digital roadmap developed for the Brazilian glass industry, including workshops and tools. In Firozabad—a city in North India which specialises in glass production and is famous for being the centre of manufacturing for the billions of glass bangles worn by South Asian women—the Sheeshgarh caste used to master the most valuable skills. The transmission of these skills to other castes was a central stake, which highlights the relations between labour and capital, between dominants castes, between Muslims and Hindus. Therefore, this paper proposes the notion of trade consciousness to analyse the processes which shaped caste, gender and class relations around the common consciousness to be part of the same activity, the same community of practices. The paper then argues that understanding the way skills are introduced, transmitted and reproduced through master/apprentice relations, the everyday conviviality in the shopfloor, or in the mohallā, constitutes a crucial thread to understand the social transformation in Firozabad. Smartness journey involves increasing knowledge availability and maturity in technological, organizational, managerial, and human dimensions for the transformation of an enterprise. This article implements a systematic methodology and multi-dimensional maturity assessment tool to measure the maturity in the mentioned dimensions by offering a Turkish case study. Contrary to frequent mention of sectors such as automotive in relation to smartness concept, this study offers a real-life application in an adverse sector: glass balcony manufacturing. The methodology calculates weighted maturity index, determines the maturity levels for each dimension, and aggregates them into an overall enterprise maturity assessment. While applying the methodology, ratings are obtained via case company interview, and weight set utilized are determined via academic experts having practical sectoral expertise. Based on the findings, specific suggestions are provided to the case company for smart manufacturing implementation in multiple dimensions for their smartness journey. The study is original in comprehensively handling all maturity dimensions; demonstrating how smartness maturity can be practically measured in a case company by a flexible and weighted approach; obtaining simple, easy-to-interpret measurements; and authenticity of the sector. The climate is changing rapidly due to anthropogenic greenhouse gases. Glass is a significant contributor to these emissions, with 95 million tons of CO2 being emitted due to glass manufacturing in recent years. Furthermore, glass recycling remains poor in the United States, and most glass is left to landfill after a single use. The lack of recycling and the carbon footprint of manufacturing have made glass an environmentally damaging material despite its theoretical infinite recyclability. Additionally, glass has the potential to enable next‐generation energy materials, enabling the necessary technology for a green economy. This study investigated the oxidation of wastewater generated during the production of glass fiber manufacturing material, which contains high organic carbon (18.32 g/L) and has a pH of 8.8, by chemical coagulation, electrocoagulation and electroadvanced oxidation techniques. It was determined that the total organic content (TOC) of wastewater was reduced by 53% using the chemical coagulation method. After electrocoagulation with Al/Al electrode pair for 300 minutes at 500 mA, 73% TOC removal was achieved at pH 8.8. While 50% TOC removal was completed in 2 h at 400 mA in electrocoagulation with Fe/Fe electrode pair, 71% TOC removal was obtained in the combined electrocoagulation/electro-Fenton process by adding hydrogen peroxide to the medium under the same conditions. In addition, it was also observed that the success of the anodic oxidation methods alone was lower. The possibility of using quartz sands from the Oinakum deposit as a promising source of high-quality quartz-containing raw materials for the glass industry in order to obtain higher grades of glass is considered. A low‐cost plasma‐chemical hybrid process (PCHP) is proposed for simultaneous NOx and SOx treatment. PCHP can be integrated into existing desulfurization reactors by combining plasma oxidation and chemical reduction. PCHP is applied to glass melting furnace emissions with limited denitration technology, achieving higher removal efficiencies of NO, NOx, and SO2 (43%, 38%, and 28%, respectively) by optimizing reductant spray and installation angles. PCHP also improves fuel consumption, with a 0.04 increase in air ratio reducing energy consumption by 3.6 kL/day (equivalent to 6.6 t(CO2)/day reduction). In addition, PCHP allows for the collection and reuse of treated SO2 as sodium sulfate particles, making it a suitable aftertreatment technology for glass manufacturing exhaust. This paper uncovers previously unstudied patterns of interregional movement and life histories of migrant glassworkers in 17th-19th-century Estonia. Using material and archival traces of 1,231 individuals associated with glassworking or production sites, workers’ lives are followed from childhood to old age. Guild-based division of skilled professions restricted access to positions within the glass industry to the enserfed locals, leading to a constant demand for foreign labour until the 1840s. In the modern age, where global warming is intensifying year by year, carbon reduction has long been an issue that countries all over the world must pay attention to. Therefore, governments have established a carbon tax and trading system to control the total carbon emissions of each country. According to the European Container Glass Federation (FEVE), every 10% recycled waste glass can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5%. Recycling waste glass will not only save the cost of raw materials but also make a significant contribution to sustainable development. This study uses the circular economy concept in the glass industry to recycle waste glass. It combines activity-based costing (ABC) and the Theory of Constraints (TOCs) to establish a production decision-making model, including carbon tax and trading. The objectives of this study are to solve the problem through mathematical programming to explore the impact of the carbon tax and carbon rights cost on corporate profits and to provide the government with the results as a reference for establishing a carbon tax system. In recent years, the new technologies of the Industry 4.0 have been considered by the academic and industrial community due to the increasing sustainability and future competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. However, manufacturers face many challenges when implementing Industry 4.0 that must be identified and analyzed. The present study seeks to identify and analyze the challenges of implementing Industry 4.0 in the glass industry in Iran. Based on a systematic review of the literature, a total of 23 challenges were identified in 6 dimensions. In the next step, using the Fuzzy DEMATEL-ANP technique and a survey of 10 experts, causal relationships between challenges were identified and prioritized. Findings showed that financial challenges are the most critical cause, and organizational-managerial challenges are the most critical effect in implementing new technologies in Industry 4.0. Also, human-cultural challenges interact more with other challenges. Finally, the results showed the challenges of cyber security issues, lack of regulatory, legal and contractual mechanisms, lack of standards, laws and regulations and a general framework in the field of digital and lack of budget and financial instruments for education, R&D and digital operations, the most important challenges in the implementation of new technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in polluting industries such as the glass industry. This study, for the first time, identifies and analyzes the challenges of implementing Industry 4.0 in one of Iran's polluting industries. Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) display excellent strength, high hardness, exceptional wear resistance and corrosion resistance owing to its amorphous structure. However, the manufacturing of large-sized and complex shaped BMG parts faces significant difficulties, which seriously hinders their applications. Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is a typical additive manufacturing (AM) technique with a cooling rate of up to 108 K/s, which not only allows for the formation of amorphous structures but also solves the forming problem of complex-shaped BMG parts. In recent years, a large amount of work has been carried out on the LPBF processing of BMGs. This review mainly summarizes the latest progress in the field of LPBF additively manufactured BMGs focusing on their mechanical properties. We first briefly review the BMG alloy systems that have been additively manufactured using LPBF, then the mechanical properties of LPBF-fabricated BMGs including the micro- and nano-hardness, micropillar compressive performance, and macro-compressive and tensile performance are clarified. Next, the relationship between the mechanical properties and microstructure of BMGs produced via LPBF are analyzed. Finally, the measures for improving the mechanical properties of LPBF-fabricated BMGs are discussed. Romula (today Reșca, Dobrosloveni Village, Romania) was the largest urban and economic center of Dacia Inferior (Malvensis), a Roman province located in the north of the Lower Danube region. In this context, the city market included workshops for the production of ceramic, metal, stone, bone, and glass objects. In 2013, 2015, and 2018, during excavations of the former Roman city, two rectangular glass furnaces were discovered. One has only one chamber, the other has two chambers. A melted glass layer was found on the walls of furnace no. 1, as well as in one room of furnace no. 2. Broken fragments of glass were also found in both. The furnaces are located in the central area of the Roman city. The evidence suggests that the furnaces belong to secondary glass workshops. The glass may have arrived in raw form, where it was remelted and processed. The discovery of these furnaces contributes to the growing body of evidence for Roman glass production around the empire. Ongoing research continues to show that ancient Africans had their own versions of science that were embedded in local contexts. The apparent lack of writing systems in most of the continent, especially south of the Sahara, was used to undermine the continent's scientific achievements. Rather than relegate Africa to a simple receiver of science and technology, ancient Africans should be celebrated for their successful improvisation and experimentation. We discuss processes of metal and glass production in western and southern Africa to reveal key aspects of the scientific method in these ancient African technologies and situate the knowledge within an appreciation of inclusive education that embraces diverse ideas and practices of science and technology. China has successively put forward ultra-low emission (ULE) transformation plans to reduce the air pollutant emissions of industrial pollutants since 2014. To assess the benefits of the ULE policy on regional air quality for Qinhuangdao, this study developed an emission inventory of nine atmospheric pollutants in 2016 and evaluated the effectiveness of the emission policy in Qinhuangdao's key industries under different scenarios with an air quality model (CALPUFF). The emissions of air pollutants in 2016 were as follows: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emitted 48.91 kt/year, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emitted 86.83 kt/year, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted 52.69 kt/year, particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) emitted 302.01 and 116.85 kt/year, carbon monoxide (CO) emitted 1208.80 kt/year, ammonia (NH3) emitted 62.87 kt/year, black carbon (BC) emitted 3.79 kt/year, and organic carbon (OC) emitted 2.72 kt/year, respectively. The results showed that at the regional level in 2025, the iron and steel industry under the PPC (Peak Production Capacity) scenario had the highest potential for reducing SO2 and NOx emissions, while the cement industry under the PPC scenario excelled in reducing PM10 emissions. As for the industrial level in 2025, the flat glass industry under the ULE scenario would reduce the most SO2 emitted, while the iron and steel industry and the cement industry under the PPC scenario demonstrated the best reduction in NOx and PM10 emissions, respectively. Furthermore, the average annual contribution concentration of SO2, NOx, and PM10 in the air monitoring stations of Qinhuangdao under the PPC scenario was significantly lower than that under the BAU scenario revealed by air quality simulation. It can be concluded that the emission policy in Qinhuangdao will help improve the air quality. Replacing heavy oil with petrol coke can greatly reduce the cost of glass production, but obviously shorten the service life of refractories used in the regenerator checker body of glass tanks. To prolong the service life of the regenerator checker body, the slag chemical composition and alkali-sulfur ratio of glass tanks after using petrol coke and the damage mechanism of the residual magnesia bricks in the regenerator checker body were studied, as well as the corrosion resistance of three magnesia based bricks (direct bonded magnesia chrome bricks, fused rebonded magnesia chrome bricks, and fused rebonded highpurity magnesium aluminate spinel bricks). On this basis, a series of targeted countermeasures were adopted to optimize the configuration of refractories, significantly improving the service life of checker bricks and meeting the requirements of glass industry development. Based on the current UK decarbonization policy, a general outlook on potential routes for the glass industry to achieve net‐zero is discussed and the differentiation during decarbonization is specified. Biomass ash is considered a potential alternative raw material for low‐carbon glass manufacture as it is rich in certain advantageous components, chiefly network modifiers. Simple sieving processes were shown to effectively separate impurities such as S, Cl, and C from some biomass ashes according to particle size distribution. The concentration of undesirable impurities decreased with increasing particle size. Morphologies and X‐ray diffraction patterns of larger washed biomass ash particles indicated liquid/amorphous phase formation during biomass combustion. The washing of ashes was also shown to be a potential route to purification. A washed bracken ash relevant to both modern and ancient glass production was characterized for comparison. Ultraviolet‐visible near‐infrared (UV‐Vis‐near IR) absorption spectra of representative green container glasses produced using biomass ash confirmed that ∼5 wt.% ash in representative glass batches has little impact on the color and redox state of glasses; the redox status of glass produced using >2 mm biomass ash after washing was less reduced than that of glass produced using high levels (>∼9 wt.%) of >2 mm biomass ash after sieving alone, observed via the redox couple Cr3+/Cr6+ by UV‐Vis‐near IR absorption spectroscopy. Bioactive glass (BG) and its polymer composites have demonstrated great potential as scaffolds for bone defect healing. Nonetheless, processing these materials into complex geometry to achieve either anatomy-fitting designs or the desired degradation behavior remains challenging. Additive manufacturing (AM) enables the fabrication of BG and BG/polymer objects with well-defined shapes and intricate porous structures. This work reviewed the recent advancements made in the AM of BG and BG/polymer composite scaffolds intended for bone tissue engineering. A literature search was performed using the Scopus database to include publications relevant to this topic. The properties of BG based on different inorganic glass formers, as well as BG/polymer composites, are first introduced. Melt extrusion, direct ink writing, powder bed fusion, and vat photopolymerization are AM technologies that are compatible with BG or BG/polymer processing and were reviewed in terms of their recent advances. The value of AM in the fabrication of BG or BG/polymer composites lies in its ability to produce scaffolds with patient-specific designs and the on-demand spatial distribution of biomaterials, both contributing to effective bone defect healing, as demonstrated by in vivo studies. Based on the relationships among structure, physiochemical properties, and biological function, AM-fabricated BG or BG/polymer composite scaffolds are valuable for achieving safer and more efficient bone defect healing in the future. Recently, growing environmental awareness has radically changed the way the problems and priorities of industry are dealt with. Energy issues have become an issue of primary importance, both in terms of consumption and polluting emissions. However, for the green transition to happen, the first step is to have a deeper knowledge of the phenomena involved in processes with a special focus on combustion. The glass industry is one of the most energy-intensive since a temperature of over 1400 °C is required to keep glass molten, with a large consumption of natural gas used for combustion. A fundamental element to control the process is the burner. In this study, the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) prediction of the internal streams repartition and the velocity profile at the exit, at different geometrical setups and operating conditions, of an industrial burner for glass furnaces is presented, with the aim of developing a surrogate model to provide these two important quantities quickly. The study of the repartition of the mass flow inside a double impulse burner and the subsequential velocity profile outside the burner is a novelty in the glass industry. The CFD prediction of the operating conditions is a crucial aspect because it is an essential boundary condition for the simulation of the reactive process from the diffusive flame found in glass furnaces. Different operating and geometrical conditions of the burner have been tested using Ansys CFX code, and results (velocity profile and mass flow repartition) have been organized in surrogate models. Results showed that the repartition of the fuel streams is mainly influenced by the position of the barrel, while the total flow rate is strongly influenced by the total inlet pressure. The internal flow varies from 20% to 50% of the total mass flow inside the burner, while the velocity magnitude outside the burner varies from 80 to 300 m/s approximately. The reconstruction of velocity profiles at the exit of the burners with surrogate models showed an acceptable match with numerical simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article introduces the Sasanid glass found during excavations at the western Iranian sites of Jahangir Dome and Goriye in Ilam province. In addition to architectural remains, different types of Sasanid pottery, glass, and metal vessels were found at these sites. Considering the importance of the glass industry in this period, the purpose of this article is to study the typological styles and chemical compositions of the glass fragments excavated at Jahangir Dome and Goriye to identify the origin of the vitreous materials. Glass fragments from these sites are divided into four groups based on the form and typology and include: vessel fragments, cosmetic containers, bracelets, and beads. According to the elemental analysis, silicon dioxide, sodium oxide, and calcium oxide are the main chemical components in the studied samples, and analyzed glass materials are of a plant-ash silica-soda-lime glass-type. Ancient glass has been extensively studied from a technological and raw material provenance perspective since the middle of the 20th century. With the rising applications of analytical techniques in the field of Heritage Studies, the last two decades saw an exponential increase in publications on ancient and historical glass technology from around the globe. Given the amount of works on glass chemical composition, it is surprising to note that the long-held production model for Iron Age glasses found in Europe has only recently been challenged by the publication of uncharacteristic glass compositions. Traditionally, LBA glass industries based on plant-ash fluxes/HMG (Egypt and the Levant) and mixed-alkali fluxes/LMHK (Italy) are thought to be supplanted by natron-fluxed/LMG production operating in Egypt and the Levant since around the 9th century BCE. Recently, however, arguments have been put forth for a more diversified network of glassmaking traditions, including small-scale autonomous European workshops. This article reviews the current state of research into Iron Age (1st millennium BCE) glasses in Europe by examining the available published data on glass compositions to critically assess some practical and theoretical issues stemming from this heterogenous field of research. This study explores the application of machine learning algorithms for supporting complex product manufacturing quality through a focus on quality assurance and control. We aim to take advantage of ML technics to solve one of the complex manufacturing problems of the tempered glass manufacturing industry as a first attempt to automate product quality prediction and optimization in this industrial field as an alternative to destructive testing methodologies. The choice of this application field was motivated by the lack of a robust engineering technique to assess the production quality in real time; this arises the need of using advanced smart manufacturing solution as AI to save the extremely high cost of destructive tests. As methodology, this paper investigates the performance of machine learning techniques including Ridge Regression, Linear Regression, Light Gradient Boosting Machine, and Lasso Regression, for predicting the product thermal treatment quality within the selected type of industry. In the first part, we applied the selected machine learning models to a dataset collected manually and made up of the more relevant process parameters of the heating and the quenching process. Evaluating the results of the applied models, based on several performance indicators such as mean absolute error, mean squared error, and r-squared, declared that Ridge Regression was the most accurate model with a mean error of 14.33 which is significantly acceptable in a business point of view and not reachable by any human level experience of prediction. The second part consists of developing a digitalized device connected to the manufacturing process to provide predictions in real time. This device operates as an error-proofing system that sends a reverse signal to the machine in case the prediction shows a non-compliant quality of the current processed product. This study can be expanded to predict the optimal process parameters to use when the predicted values do not meet the desired quality and can advantageously replace the trial-and-error approach that is generally adopted for defining those parameters. The contribution of our work relies on the introduction of a clear methodology (from idea to industrialization) for the design and deployment of an industrial-grade predictive solution within a new field which is the glass transformation. The currently still high fossil energy demand is forcing the glass industry to search for innovative approaches for the reduction in CO 2 emissions and the integration of renewable energy sources. In this paper, a novel power-to-methane concept is presented and discussed for this purpose. A special focus is on methods for the required CO 2 capture from typical flue gases in the glass industry, which have hardly been explored to date. To close this research gap, process simulation models are developed to investigate post-combustion CO 2 capture by absorption processes, followed by a techno-economic evaluation. Due to reduced flue gas volume, the designed CO 2 capture plant is found to be much smaller (40 m 3 absorber column volume) than absorption-based CO 2 separation processes for power plants (12,560 m 3 absorber column volume). As there are many options for waste heat utilization in the glass industry, the waste heat required for CO 2 desorption can be generated in a particularly efficient and cost-effective way. The resulting CO 2 separation costs range between 41 and 42 EUR/t CO 2 , depending on waste heat utilization for desorption. These costs are below the values of 50–65 EUR/t CO 2 for comparable industrial applications. Despite these promising economic results, there are still some technical restrictions in terms of solvent degradation due to the high oxygen content in flue gas compositions. The results of this study point towards parametric studies for approaching these issues, such as the use of secondary and tertiary amines as solvents, or the optimization of operating conditions such as stripper pressure for further cost reductions potential. The production of glass foams obtained by recycling post-consumer glass and textile industry processing waste is presented. The mechanical, thermal and acoustic properties were characterized as a function of process temperature and time. The results showed that it is possible to produce glass foams with thermal and acoustic insulation properties from a mixture consisting of 96.5% of glass waste, 1% of textile waste and 2.5% of manganese dioxide, processed at temperatures between 800 and 900 °C for a time between 30 and 90 min. The samples had density in the range of 200–300 kg m−3, porosity of 87–92%, thermal conductivity of 85–105 mW m−1 K−1, noise-reducing factors of 0.15–0.40 and compressive strength of 1.2–3.0 MPa. Although their insulation performance was not as outstanding as that of polymer foams, these materials can emerge as competitive candidates for applications requiring non-flammability and high-temperature load bearing capacity in combination with low weight, mechanical strength, and thermal and acoustic insulation properties. The use of secondary raw materials (which accounted for 97.5% by weight of the synthetic blend) limits the energy required compared to that needed for the extraction, transportation and processing of primary raw materials, making these foams attractive also in terms of environmental footprint. High flow (hf)-modified polypropylene (PP) fibers and glass filaments (GFs) were made into webs, which were then laminated orthogonally and needle punched to make GF/PP-hf preforms. These preforms were then hot pressed to produce GF/PP-hf composites. Similarly, GFs and nonmodified PP were made into GF/PP composites with the aforementioned process to serve as the control group. The structure, morphology, and mechanical performances (i.e. tensile, bending, and impact strength) of GF/PP and GF/PP-hf composites were characterized and tested using differential scanning calorimeter and dynamic mechanical analysis. The test results showed that the GF/PP-hf composites are composed of reinforcing filaments at a weight ratio of 43.40% and an average length of 22.9 mm. Consequently, they had advantages of high fiber content, long fiber length, and adjustable fiber orientation. Compared to GF/PP composites, GF/PP-hf composites exhibited good dispersion of GFs in the matrices, good bonding between filaments and the matrix, and a relatively lower porosity factor of 2.92%. Moreover, the glass transition temperature and crystallinity were improved by 15.2°C and 10.42%, respectively. When the temperature was lower than 160°C, GF/PP-hf composites preserved a higher energy storage modulus and a lower loss factor. Furthermore, GF/PP-hf composites exhibited good static mechanical properties, including the tensile strength of 118 MPa, the tensile modulus of 5830 MPa, the bending strength of 180 MPa, the bending modulus of 780 MPa, and the impact strength of 33 KJ m−2, which are 30, 29.6, 78.2, 68.3, and 32%, respectively, higher than those of the control group. To understand the pollution characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the glass deep-processing industry, samples were collected using polyvinyl fluoride bags and quickly transferred to summa tanks for GC/MS/FID analysis. The emission characteristics of VOCs, the ozone formation potential and the secondary aerosol formation potential were studied. The results showed that the VOCs emitted by the six enterprises were mainly aromatics and OVOCs, accounting for 35% to 97% of the emissions, with high emission loads of alkanes and halocarbons from individual enterprises. The stack emissions from Enterprise 2 were as high as 38 mg/m3, while the emissions from the remaining five enterprises were all in the range of 1.7~4.1 mg/m3, probably because the terminal treatment facilities were not updated in a timely manner, resulting in excessive stack emissions from Enterprise 2. The characteristic pollutants, including OVOCs, aromatics and alkanes, which are mainly derived from spray painting and gluing, were screened in the six enterprises. Aromatics and OVOCs contributed the most to the ozone formation potential in the six enterprises, with some enterprises having a high contribution from alkanes and alkenes. On the basis of the secondary aerosol formation potential, toluene, benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene and m/p-xylene account for 98% of the six enterprises' emissions. Glass enterprises should prioritise the control of benzene and OVOCs emissions. The glass processing industry mainly emits aromatics, OVOCs and alkanes. For use in crystal glass production, quartz sand must contain less than 0.09% iron. If the sand contains more than 0.09% Fe, the iron must be removed. In the present study, quartz sand from tailings ponds near the Cluj area of Romania is analyzed for potential use in the glass industry, after magnetic separation. The particle size distribution of raw sand was determined, and mineralogical analyses was realized. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), morphology and elemental distribution maps on the particle was performed. The evolution of the iron content versus the particle size was analyzed. Using X-ray diffraction, the phases occurring in the sand were investigated in relation to the particle size. Magnetic separation with two magnets, having different energy, was performed for identifying the phases attached to the magnetic particles. As a by-product or material used in various industries crystalline silica contaminates the air many occupational settings. If its fine particles are inhaled, they are deposited in the lungs and may cause the development of silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer. The goal of this study was to estimate occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) in Slovenia and the associated health risks. To do that, we ran two cross-sectional studies, one to determine the number of workers at risk of occupational exposure to RCS in Slovene industries and the other to determine and classify changes in the lung radiographs of glass factory workers exposed to RCS, as a means to infer health risks for other RCS exposed workers in Slovenia. However, the first study shows that official public data on occupational exposure to silica in Slovenia are unreliable and incomplete and that company representatives strongly underestimate occupational exposure to silica. Measurements of total and silica dust are made by 8.3 % and 1.8 % of companies working with silica, respectively. The second study shows that about a third of the exposed workers had lung changes associated with silicosis. We have failed to achieve the goal of our study, as the obtained data are grossly underestimated and unreliable, but it has opened our eyes as to what needs to be improved. All companies need to systematically be informed about occupational health risks, field inspections need to be consistent, regular, and intensified, and health surveillance of all exposed workers implemented regularly. The globalizing competitive environment has caused the human capital of organizations to become a determining factor in their competitiveness. Various social relations within the organization can affect this human capital positively or negatively. Employees are ignored and made to feel worthless by others in the organization they are in. It can cause them not to enjoy their work and not to express useful and innovative ideas and opinions for the organization they are working. From this point of view, the study is about to organizational exclusion which has effects on employee voice and workflow experience. At the time of the literature review, the effect of organizational exclusion on employee voice is investigated in foreign literature, but no study can be found in domestic literature. A study on the effect of organizational exclusion on the workflow experience cannot been found in both domestic and foreign literature. In this respect, it is thought that the work has an exploratory and precursor feature. As the universe of research, 200 blue-collar employees of a company who are operating in the glass industry are selected. The results of the research reveal that organizational exclusion negatively effects on employee voice and workflow experience. At the same time, it is determined that organizational exclusion negatively affects the workflow experience and job enjoyment. In the glass manufacturing industry, electric melting would greatly improve the energy efficiency and reduce the pollution emission, which agrees with the target of peak carbon and carbon neutrality. In this work, electric boosting system is introduced into float glass furnace, and the influence of varied electrodes positions on glass melting process is investigated. The glass temperature and velocity fields of glass melting tank are obtained using numerical modeling. According to the temperature and velocity fields, the glass trajectories at glass melting tank are tracked, and the residence time distribution and quality indexes of glass melt are statistic as well. Ultimately, the evaluation method is proposed to predict the glass quality and melting efficiency of glass furnace, which is based on the quality indexes of critical particles and longest residence time of glass melt. The accelerated batch melting process and stable convection flow are obtained as the electrodes are installed under batch blanket. Furthermore, the improved glass quality and melting efficiency of glass furnace is obtained. The study is expected to promote the application and optimization of electric boosting system in large‐scale float furnace, which would accelerate the use of clean energy in glass manufacturing industry. The morphological structure of particles of a synthetic raw material for the glass industry obtained as a result of the physicochemical interaction of a quartz-containing crystalline raw material source and sodium hydroxide was studied. The formation of a developed, near-surface shell on the surface and cavities of quartz grains, containing elements of compounds containing O and Na, is established, which contributes to an increase in the kinetics of solid-phase reactions between Si and Na, which contain components of the glass charge. Introduction: Dry eye disease is a rising occupational hazard in India. Firozabad, is known for its glass manufacturing work worldwide. As there is limited evidence available on dry eye prevalence in glass industry workers, the present study was undertaken. Aim: To find out the prevalence and severity of Dry Eye Disease (DED) in glass industry workers of Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional observational study was conducted in Department of Ophthalmology at Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, from March 2020 to September 2021 among the glass industry workers at Firozabad. It was a field survey, conducted in the factories only. Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) Questionnaire was presented to 500 randomly selected glass industry workers to screen for dry eye disease. Based on subject's response to OSDI questionnaire, score was calculated and then evaluated with an OSDI chart to assess the magnitude of dry eye symptoms. The final diagnosis and grading of dry eye was done on the basis of Schirmer's test. Chi-square test was used to detect the association between variables. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software (version 28.0) was used for analysis. A p-value <0.05 was regarded as significant. Results: In the present study, the overall dry eye prevalence in glass industry workers was 28%. Mild dry eye was present in 3.2% of workers, moderate dry eye in 16.8%, and severe dry eye was present in 8% of glass workers. There was significant association between dry eye and working hours (per day) in two different study groups (<8 hrs and >8 hrs) (χ²=20.9, p-value <0.001). There was also a significant association between the prevalence of dry eye and the years of exposure (in years) in the glass industry (χ²=51.4, p-value <0.001). Recently, in geotechnical engineering, waste utilization and management have become immensely important in terms of reducing the ratios of environmentally harmful and relatively expensive chemical soil strengthening additives. Glass manufacturing waste (GMW), among the above-stated waste materials, comes to existence as the mineralogical part required to produce glass is separated from the mined material. GMW leads to serious environmental pollution incessantly. This study aims to investigate the effects of GMW to the bearing capacity and time-dependent consolidation settlements of clayey soils (CS) in an environmentally friendly approach. In this regard, GMW, which has not yet been considered in the relevant literature, was activated with KOH, NaOH and CaO alkali activators to form geopolymer mortars. Large-scale model experiments were performed on geopolymer-CS mixtures and up to 7.35 times bearing capacity increments along with 6.90 times settlement reductions were reached compared to unimproved CS. Optimum GMW ratio was found as 25% and CaO was determined to be the most ideal alkali activator. Curing temperature and durations were examined and it was deduced that both affected the results significantly. The adaptive exponentially weighted moving average (AEWMA) control charts are the advanced form of classical memory control charts used for efficiently monitoring small-to-large shifts in the process parameters (location and/or dispersion). These AEWMA control charts estimate the unknown shifts using exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) or cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts statistics. The hybrid EWMA (HEWMA) control chart is preferred over classical memory control charts to detect early shifts in process parameters. So, this study presents a new auxiliary information-based (AIB) AEWMA (IAEWMAAIB) control chart for process location that estimates the unknown location shift using HEWMA statistic. The objective is to develop an unbiased location shift estimator using HEWMA statistic and then adaptively update the smoothing constant. The shift estimation using HEWMA statistic instead of EWMA or CUSUM statistics boosts the performance of the proposed IAEWMAAIB control chart. The Monte Carlo simulation technique is used to get the numerical results. Famous performance evaluation measures like average run length, extra quadratic loss, relative average run length, and performance comparison index are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed chart with existing counterparts. The comparison reveals the superiority of the proposed control chart. Finally, two real-life applications from the glass manufacturing industry and physicochemical parameters of groundwater are considered to show the proposed control chart's implementation procedure and dominance. With the increasing demand for automotive glass, improving the efficiency of automotive glass manufacturing systems can make full use of production resources and reduce the waste of natural and social resources. Therefore, this work aims to provide an efficient method for a real-world two-stage hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with small batches in an automotive glass manufacturing system. For the investigated problem, there is a significant setup time at the first stage, the second stage is served by machines that should not be interrupted, and each batch has a due date. Such constraints make this scheduling problem challenging. To solve this problem, a mixed integer linear programming model is established. Also, two properties and three theorems are given to enhance the problem-solving process. Subsequently, an efficient genetic algorithm is carefully designed to solve large-scale problems by considering the properties of the system. Meanwhile, an improvement scheme is proposed to decrease the running time of the algorithm, and experimental results show that this scheme can reduce the running time by 280 s at most from the average results of different scale problems. Finally, extensive experiments are carried out and a real-world case is solved to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the designed genetic algorithm. Myopic glasses design has critical effects on the match between glasses and individual face. Improper myopic glasses design may affect the try-on comfort and health. It is difficult for the myopic glasses to be adjusted variedly and suitably from people to people with the limitations of traditional manufacturing processes and current design methods. In this paper, an evaluation descriptor named glasses fit score, which contains alignment scores and design scores, is proposed to guide and evaluate the myopic glasses design. Based on the descriptor, a novel approach is presented to complete the myopic glasses design and manufacturing individually. The approach can be divided into three steps: glasses alignment, glasses personalized design and glasses manufacturing. During the glasses alignment, the myopic glasses are aligned to the face to obtain the alignment score of the descriptor based on the face symmetry plane and feature points, including the silent point of the eye and the top point of the ear. After the glasses alignment, the myopic glasses can be deformed to match the face to achieve the design score of the descriptor. The deformations include glasses frame transformation, glasses leg option and glasses personalized mark. In the glasses manufacturing, the designed myopic glasses can be fabricated by a 3D printer. Then, a post processing process is conducted to polish the myopic glasses with oil painted. Finally, the proposed approach is applied to adjust the myopic glasses for several people. The results show that, compared to the previous methods, the approach can make the myopic glasses aligned and deformed to the individual face effectively to obtain an ideal score of the descriptor, thus improving the match between the glasses and the individual face. Activity Based Costing (ABC) bridges resources and products / services by focusing on activities to more accurately distribute indirect costs incurred in the enterprise. Using ABC output for managerial objectives led to Activity Based Management (ABM) system. This paper aims to apply the activity analysis, which is a target of ABM, in a private company that manufactures fiber glass automobile cabins. The results show that receiving orders/jobs from the main activities of the manufacturing system is a non-value added activity. The hybrid exponentially weighted moving average (HEWMA) control chart is an enhanced version of the EWMA control chart that monitors the process parameters effectively. Similarly, the auxiliary information-based (AIB) EWMA control charts are very efficient for monitoring process parameters. The purpose of this paper is to propose two new control charts for the improved monitoring of process dispersion referred to as HEWMA AIB 1 and HEWMA AIB 2 control charts. A simulation study is carried out to assess the performance of the proposed HEWMA AIB 1 and HEWMA AIB 2 control charts. Average run length, extra quadratic loss, relative average run length, and performance comparison index are used to compare the performance of the proposed control charts against the existing counterparts. The comparisons reveal the superiority of the proposed control charts against other competing control charts, particularly for small to moderate shifts in the process dispersion. Recent surge in additive manufacturing efforts demonstrate stereolithography as a promising technique for fabricating glass materials due to the high speed and scalability of the process. However, little efforts have been devoted to manufacture borosilicate glass by the stereolithographic process. One of the challenges is that its relatively low softening temperatures could interfere with the thermal post-printing process and introduce poor fidelity and structure instability. Here, we report on the first demonstration of stereolithographic manufacturing of cerium-doped (Ce-doped) (<10%) and undoped borosilicate glass which was enabled by a multi-step post thermal processing. The optical properties of the printed glass depend on thermal processing parameters (temperature, time, and environment) and can be readily tuned and optimized for a wide range of applications. The printed amorphous glass shows good structural stability with band gap of 3 eV, Urbach energy of 0.75 eV and refractive index of 2.14 for 8% Ce-doped glass, respectively. These results indicate Ce-doped glass fabricated by stereolithography is suitable for scintillator applications and that additive manufacturing could be promising for borosilicate glass fabrication. Metallic glasses (MGs) are out-of-equilibrium metallic systems known for their unique structural and functional properties arising from structural long-range disorder. Despite their attractive properties, practical applications of MGs fabricated by traditional casting strategy face challenges due to size constraints (limited glass-forming ability) and shape complexity issues. Over the decades since the discovery of MGs in the 1960 s, significant progress has been made in overcoming these limitations by the manufacture strategy, enabling the fabrication of engineering components with desired sizes, tailored shapes, and intricate geometries. This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the state-of-art for manufacturing techniques of large MG and MG parts. The advancements in subtractive, formative, and additive manufacturing of MGs, as well as their joining and welding processes, are reviewed. By consolidating the existing knowledge, this review aims to suggest the practical and promising approach to overcome the limited glass-forming ability and size restrictions in cast MGs through the manufacture strategy, offer insights for further advancements in MG manufacturing, address evolving nature of the field and promote a better understanding of the key scientific aspects of structures and properties in processed MG components. The objective of this work was to apply Fuzzy Logic to develop strategies for classifying the purchasing portfolio in a glass industry. Data collection was carried out with the purchasing sector of that industry. To measure the data, the InFuzzy software with descriptive analysis was used. As a result, it was observed that 94.5% of the products are in the quadrant of strategic items in the Portfolio Matrix. Of these products, 60% are positioned in the quadrant classified with the "explore" strategy.
