This study was conducted to determine some bioecological characteristics of Lepomis gibbosus (L. 1758), commonly known as pumpkinseed sunfish, which spreads in Gökpınar Dam Lake (GDL) in Denizli Province. The fish samples were captured with an experimental seine net and multimesh gillnet from May 2019 to April 2020. During the samplings, certain physicochemical parameters of GDL were measured, habitat utilization, relations to environmental variables, feeding habits and interspecific interactions with other fishes of L. gibbosus individuals were observed. It is observed that GDL provides a suitable habitat for L. gibbosus in terms of water quality and other ecological requirements. A total of 1005 L. gibbosus individuals, consisting of 302 females, 605 males, and 98 juveniles, were sampled throughout the study, and biometric studies were conducted. In the population males were found to be dominant. The averages were determined as follows; total length as 5.82±2.09 cm (2.46-11.34), weight as 4.94±4.67g (0.20-34.65), and condition factor as 1.71±0.24. The ages were determined between 0+ to II+and Age-length relationship (VBGE) was estimated as 𝐿𝑡=19.85(1 - 𝑒-0.2744(𝑡+0.272)) Spawning occurs between April and June in individuals at the age of I+. It has been observed that the species exhibits good growth rates in this habitat, displays opportunistic omnivorous feeding behavior, preys on another invasive alien species, Gambusia holbrooki, present in the lake, and competes with the same species for habitat sharing. It has been determined that L. gibbosus has formed a self-sustaining population in GDL, but it utilizes a limited lake area as its habitat. In conclusion, GDL is considered as a hydrologically unstable and highly variable habitat. L. gibbosus population of GDL exhibits significant similarities in terms of bioecological characteristics with populations that spread outside its natural spreading area. As L.gibbosus is an exotic fish and might be have invasive traits, it is necessary to monitor of the population regularly, and control measures should be taken to prevent its spread to other inland water bodies. Cinsel eğitim yaşamın başlangıcından itibaren sağlıklı gelişim sürecinde etkili olan bir kavramdır. İnsan bedeni ve gelişimi, şiddetten korunma ve güvende olma gibi üreme konusu da cinsel eğitimin bir parçasıdır. Bu araştırmada çocukların üreme konusuna yönelik sorularına yanıt verebilecek nitelikte, amaçlı örnekleme yoluyla belirlenen 11 resimli çocuk kitabı oluşturulan temalar çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Kitaplarda geçen iletilerin içeriklerini ayrıntılarıyla ortaya koymak amacıyla bu araştırma doküman incelemesi yoluyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuçlara göre kitaplarda üremeyle ilgili bilgilerin verilmesi, biyolojik cinsiyet, cinsel organlar ve özellikleri, cinsel birliktelik, döllenme, hamilelik ve doğum süreçleri, üreme ve cinsellikle ilgili resimler, çocuk sahibi olma durumu ve ebeveynlere yönelik öneriler gibi temalara çeşitli şekillerde yer verildiği görülmüştür. Kitaplarda yer alan içerikler ile ayrıntıları farklılaşmaktadır. Cinsel eğitimin yaşa ve gelişim düzeyine uygunluğu, cinsel eğitimin ölçünleri ve içeriği göz önünde bulundurularak bulgular tartışılmıştır. Cinsel eğitimde kullanılabilecek bir araç olan resimli çocuk kitaplarının içeriğinin ve hitap ettiği yaş grubunun belirtilmesi, ebeveynlere cinsel eğitimde rehberlik edilmesi, cinsel eğitimde yaş ve gelişim düzeyine uygun ölçünlerin belirlenmesi ve uygulanması çocukların sağlıklı cinsel eğitim almalarına katkı sağlayacaktır.

The aim of this study is to investigate the breeding biology of Collared pratincole, a migratory bird species in Antalya/Boğazkent (Turkey). There are a lot of habitat types in research area of 200 ha. This speciality serves great biodiversity. Field work was carried out from March to October between 2016 and 2017. 35 individuals and 16 nests were found in the first year and 25 individuals and eight nests in the next year. The egg volume has been calculated according to the formulation V=0.51 X L X W2 while egg index has been figured with regard to EI=100xW/L formulation. According to the hatchling size, the breeding success of the species was 86.7% in 2016 and 85.7% in 2017.Considering the fledgling size, the figures were 46.4% in 2016 and 66.7% in 2017 respectively. Many factors affecting the breeding success of the species were specified in the region. Hooded crows (Corvus cornix), for example, was detected as being the natural predator of the species. Furthermore, the invasion of the breeding areas by humans and human-related activities such as construction, tourism and agriculture also harmfully affects the breeding success. According to our study Antalya/Boğazkent is a very important bird area in Turkey.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the out-of-season reproductive performance and lamb birth weight of Kangal ewes orally administered a bolus of vitamin and mineral premix or mineral premix given as injection with at 40-45 days postpartum during the anestrous period. In total, 78 primiparous Kangal ewes with were randomly allocated to three experimental groups. Estrus induction protocol was performed and a ram was introduced to the ewes at the 80th days postpartum. Ewes in the group 1 a dose of 2 mL of injectable mineral solution at 40-45 days before oestrous synchronisation, was administered at once (n = 25). As for group 2, at 40-45 days before oestrous synchronisation, a mineral bolus was given orally once (n = 27). To the ewes in the group 3 a dose of 2 mL of physiological saline was given once to the animals (n = 26) simultaneously with group 1 and group 2. Reproductive parameters such as estrus and pregnancy rates; single, twin, triplet, and multiple pregnancy rates; litter size; embryonic mortality; fecundity; and dystocia rates were evaluated. In addition, the placentas were weighed to evaluate the effect of mineral supplements on placentation. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of parameters above (p>0.05). However, the rate of dystocia was significantly lower in group 2 compared to Groups 1 and 3 (p<0.05). Cuttlefish are members of the cephalopod class, that die en masse following a single breeding season (monocyclic spawning). In line with changes in environmental factors, they spent their lives in coastal areas at a depth range of 0-200 m. Although adults prefer deep areas before breeding season, they migrate to coastal areas again for breeding activity and die as a result of natural factors at the end of the breeding period. Knowledge of the life cycle and especially the reproduction phase of their life is crucial information to be able to sustainably exploit these species. Even though the coastline of Turkey, due to the variations of the environmental conditions, it's known that there are differences in reproductive characteristics among the subpopulations of the species.To determine the reproductive characteristics of the Antalya Bay subpopulation of the species, a total of 516 individuals (247 male and 269 female individuals) were examined. The mantle length of the examined individuals ranged between 45 – 177 mm. By using the morphologic characters 4 stages of sexual maturity could be observed for both sexes. Within the scope of our study, the relationship between height and weight, gonad development status (sexual maturity indices) and the number of eggs in female individuals with biometric characters were determined for the population in the sampling area.

In the present study, seasonal spermatological changes were observed in Linda breed gander bred in Kars province between April and June. Of the geese, which are intensively bred in Kars, Ardahan and Muş provinces in Türkiye; Generally, meat, feathers and by-products such as liver are used. Although goose breeding is profitable and advantageous, decreases in seasonal breeding activities of geese restrict breeding. In order to benefit from assisted reproductive techniques effectively, first of all, the effects of the season on reproduction should be examined. For this purpose, in our study, five three-year-old ganders were used as material for semen collection. The semen from the gander was collected by dorso-abdominal massage method twice a week. Fresh semen taken were examined for motility. The mean motility values of fresh semen samples by months were found to be 16.1±5.48, 1.09±0.99 and 0.0±0.0, respectively. It was observed that the motility values suddenly decreased after April (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference between May and June (P>0.05). As a result, it was determined that there was a decrease in the quality of spermatological data in Linda breed geese bred in the Kars region as of April, and the reproductive period began to decline. Considering both the regional importance and export product potential of goose breeding, the necessity of carrying out more in-depth studies on this issue should be seriously evaluated. Objective: Lactobacilli are the most commonly used probiotics. We examined the influence of cell-free supernatants (CFSs) of Lactobacillus acidophilus (La), L. fermentum (Lf), L. plantarum (Lp) and L. rhamnosus (Lr) on growth, adhesion and invasion of Campylobacter jejuni 81116 and RM1221 in human adenocarcinoma colon cells (HT-29). We also analyzed the influences of CFSs, C. jejuni and their combinations on HT-29 cell viability. Materials and Methods: Growth and adhesive-invasive bacteria counts were determined using the spectrophotometric method and colony counting method, respectively. We used methyl thiazolyl diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay for detection of HT-29 cell viability. Results: During two and four hours of incubation, the growth of RM1221 was significantly decreased (p<0.0001) with the effects of the tested CFSs, while the decrease in growth of the 81116 strain was only significant (p<0.05) in the presence of La and Lp. All CFSs except La reduced the growth of both C. jejuni isolates at 24 hours of incubation. The adhesion of C. jejuni 81116 was significantly (p<0.0001) reduced in the presence of all CFSs. La and Lr statistically significantly (p<0.05 and p<0.005, respectively) reduced the adhesion of C. jejuni RM1221. Invasion of C. jejuni strains was shown not to be affected in presence of all CFSs. This study was carried out to determine the growth and reproductive characteristics of Garra rufa Heckel, 1843 infested with Paradiplozoon bingolensis Civanova et al., 2013 in Göynük Stream, Bingol. A total of 267 G. rufa specimens were caught by a casting net between March 2015 and February 2016. The total length of G. rufa ranged from 8.5-19.1 cm and the total weights ranged from 5.8-58.7 g. The most intensive catching was in G. rufa population of 12.0-12.9 cm (30.0%) cm and 15.0-19.9 (25.2%) g in the groups. The mean condition factor was determined as 1.126±0.151 (0.607-1.646). The lengthweight relationships were calculated as W= 0.0205 x TL2.758 (r2 = 0.891). The M: F ratio was 1:1.15. The sexual maturity length was recorded as 13 cm total length for males and 14 cm total length for females. Additionally, Paradiplozoon bingolensis was detected on only 218 G. rufa in this population. Of these positive samples, 173 P. bingolensis were isolated from male fish samples, while the females had 228 P. bingolensis. Therefore, female G. rufa specimens from this population were determined to be more predisposed to the infestation (p<0.01). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to fully controlled production of european catfish (Silurus glanis) and to increase fertilization and survival rates using different solutions and methods, enrichment of natural stocks with the obtained larvae and to provide participation as a new species in addition to species cultivated in Turkey. The study was carried out in Gürle Trout Farm in Manisa province. Eggs and sperm, that had been obtained from the broodstock, exposed to various fertilization methods and the fertilized eggs were put in the zuger jars and made triplicate trials. As a result, in this study, under the light of the findings obtained from different fish that was captured in different times and from two different regions; eggs that were treated with the urea-salt solution fertilization, eying and survival rates were higher than only salt solution application. Urea-salt solution for 10 minutes and the salt solution for 10 minutes were more successful. In addition, the time problem of working with living materials has become one of the biggest obstacles to this work. It is imperative that the reproductive cycle occurs once a year and in case of failure, it is needed to wait for the next cycle. In this context, it was not possible to tolerate the problems experienced in egg-taking, fertilization and survival activities in the last attempt. Therefore, the project had to be terminated here.

Some species of shrimp, lobster and crabs known as decapod (ten feet) crustase are among the economically important aquatic organisms. The increase in peoples protein needs leads to the inadequate consumption of these organisms caught from the nature and the consumption of them as a luxury food in general. Therefore, there has been a significant increase in the reproduction and rearing of decapod crustaceans, especially in recent years. It is of great importance to know the reproductive systems and to investigate the factors affecting this system in the studies to increase the production of decapods. In this study, informations on the external and internal factors that are effective in the regulation of growth in crustaceans, and the role of hormones and neurotransmitters in the reproduction of crustaceans were reviewed. The most important external factors in growth regulations in crustaceansare water temperature, photoperiod, feeding, salinity on the other hand, among internal factors, neuroendocrine and non-neuroendocrine secretions appear to be effective on gonadal growth in crustaceans. Varroa destructor is a well-known ectoparasite of the honey bee Apis mellifera. Amitraz and fluvalinate are highly effective miticides used against V. destructor infestation in colonies of honey bee A. mellifera. Though honey bees more resistant to miticides, there are side effects of these chemicals on the reproduction, olfaction, and honey production of honey bees. We showed a negative impact of miticides amitraz and fluvalinate on honey production and reproduction of honey bee colonies. Also, we assumed the reduction of olfaction of honey bees by fluvalinate due to changes of expression of olfactory related neuropeptide genes short neuropeptide F sNPF, tachykinin TK, short neuropeptide F receptor sNPFR. The external treatment of honey bee colonies by miticides amitraz and fluvalinate along with a positive effect of pest control harms reproductivity, honey productivity, and, probably, can reduce learning and memory, gustation and olfaction of honey bees. When used for a short time and with care, miticides can be less harmful to honey bees. Breeding varroa-resistant honey bees allow to reduce the use of miticides and produce organic honey. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary inorganic and/or organic based trace mineral premix in full or half doses in broiler breeders' diet on hatchability, fertility, post hatch performance, and carcass parameters of broiler progeny. A total of 220 Ross-308, 36 wkold broiler breeders were divided into 4 dietary treatments (100% inorganic, 50% organic + 50% inorganic, 50% organic, and 100% organic trace mineral premix) with 5 replicates of 10 females and 1 male in each pen having similar body weight and egg production. The results of this experiment showed that inclusion of trace minerals source type in broiler breeders' diet did not have a significant effect on hatching egg characteristic. The results, however, showed that diets containing full (100%) or half (50%) doses of organic and/or inorganic minerals in broiler breeder hens' diet have a significant effect on fertility rate (P<0.05). The results also showed that growth performance of offspring was, however, not affected by the trace mineral sources or level used in the maternal diets at the end, while carcass weight and carcass yield were significantly affected. It may be concluded that replacing inorganic based trace mineral premix with half or full dose of organic based trace mineral premix in the broiler breeder hens' diet could improve hatching performance, growth and carcass performances of their progenies. This study describes the spatio-temporal distribution patterns of anchovy eggs and larvae around Gökçeada Island in the North Aegean Sea. Monthly vertical samplings were performed at nine stations in one year period between June 2013 and May 2014. In total, 306 eggs, 198 prelarvae and 248 postlarvae were sampled. It was observed that spawning season of anchovy was between May and October, whereas spawning took place at 15.9 °C and peaked at 20.8-23.2 °C in June and August. Total egg biomass was determined as 1199.8 ind/m² and mean egg biomass was 33.5 ind/m². Total prelarvae and postlarvae biomass were detected as 776.2 ind/m² and 972.2 ind/m², respectively. Maximum abundance of prelarvae and postlarvae were seen in August (540 n/m²) and September (492 n/km²), respectively. Total mortality of eggs was detected as 12.4%, highest mortality was observed in July (30.9%) and majority of mortality realized in gastrula stage (stage 3) (85%). Tamoxifen (TAM) is one of selective estrogen receptor modulators used in breast cancer treatment and prevention. The objective of this study was to determine whether or not insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-1) and its receptor (IGF-1R), has any role in the effect mechanism of TAM on the ovary. Experimentally, animals were divided into three groups as control group (n= 20), low dose TAM treatment group (0.5 mg/mouse/day, n= 20) and high dose TAM treatment group (1.5 mg/mouse/day, n= 20). TAM was injected 0.5 and 1.5 mg/mouse/day for 5 days. Ovarian sections were used to examine the general structure by trichrome staining method and to determine IGF-1 and IGF-1R expressions by immunohistochemical staining method. After the experiment, the presence of atretic follicles and small cystic structures in the TAM-treated animals was determined. Also, antral follicles and the corpus luteum were much less in the high dose TAM group than in the control. TAM did not change the expression of IGF-1 in granulosa cells, but increased the expression of IGF-1R. In TAM groups, IGF-1 and IGF-1R expression were increased in oocytes of follicles and in interstitial cells depending on TAM doses. However, while IGF-1 expression was unchanged in the corpus luteum, decreased in treatment group. TAM generally stimulated IGF-1 and IGF-1R expression in a dose-dependent manner. The results suggest that IGF- 1 signaling pathway is involved in the mechanism of action of TAM on the ovary. Seizures do not occur randomly. They tend to cluster in the majority of men and women with epilepsy. Seizure clusters, in turn, often show a temporal periodicity. When the periodicity of seizure exacerbation aligns itself with that of the menstrual cycle, it is designated catamenial epilepsy. The neuroactive properties of reproductive steroids and the cyclic variation in their serum concentrations are important pathophysiologic factors. There is evidence for the existence of at least 3 patterns of catamenial seizure exacerbation: perimenstrual and periovulatory in ovulatory cycles, and entire luteal phase in anovulatory cycles. A rational mathematical basis for this categorization of catamenial epilepsy has been developed. It identifies over one-third of women as having catamenial epilepsy. If seizures show hormonal sensitivity in their occurrence, they may also respond to hormonal treatment. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled National Institute of Health (NIH) progesterone trial found that cyclic progesterone supplement is no better than placebo overall, but did reduce seizure frequency significantly in the subset of women with perimenstrual seizure exacerbation. The purpose of this study, classification with data mining methods according to the factors of season, selection, and frequency of settlement which have an effect on fertility in Japanese quail eggs, and is to determine the effect of these factors In this study 180 female quails in three different seasons (summer, winter and autumn) which were obtained from a selection line and a control line were used. 1141 hatching eggs collected from quails which were hosted on two different types of cages (160-240 cm2/quail) during a week at 12 weeks of age have formed the material of study. Classification algorithms used in the study are YSA, RBF Network, Naive Bayes, KStar, and Ridor algorythms, respectively. In the comparison of the models formed according to these algorithms, Kappa statistic, Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Mean Square Root Error (MSE), Relative Absolute Error (RAE), Relative Square Root Error (RSE) performance criteria were used. As a result of analysis, it has been seen in the comparison made that the model formed according to Ridor algorithm that has MAD: 0.002, MSE: 0.05, RAE: 1.07%, RSE: 14.50% and Kappa: 0.98 performance criteria values, respectively, has made the classification with minimum error. With this study conducted, it was determined that 85% of the quail eggs fertile and 15% of them has low reproduction capacity with the accurate classification success of 99.73%. Purpose: This study aimed toknow whether administration of α-tocopherolable to increase uterine endometrial vascularization, inhibit uterine cervix oxidative stress, and augment cervical proliferation in female rats exposed to tobacco smoke. Material and Methods:Twenty five, 8 weeks old female Wistar rats (Rattusnorvegicus) were divided into 5 groups (n=5 each), including control group (non exposure group); the rats were exposed to tobacco smoke (CS); the rats were exposed to tobacco smoke and treated with α-tocopherol at dose of 100 mg/kg/day (CS + AT1); rats were exposed to tobacco smoke and treated with α-tocopherol at dose of 200mg/kg/day (CS + AT2); rats were exposed to tobacco smoke and treated with α-tocopherol at dose of 400 mg/kg/day (CS + AT3). The expression of endometrial VEGF was observed by immunohistochemical staining using anti-VEGF primary antibody and biotinylated universal secondary antibody. MDA levels were measured colorimetrically. The number of spiralis arterioles and proliferation of uterine cervix epithelial cells were counted histologically withhematoxilin eosin staining. This research has been approved by research ethics committee Faculty of Medicine University of Brawijaya, Malang, Indonesia (Number 477/EC/KEPK-S2- KB/10/2013). Results: Tobacco smoke significantly lowered VEGF level, the number of spiralis arterioles, anduterine cervix epithelial cells compared with control group (P < 0.05). Administration of α-tocopherol in different doses significantly increasethe VEGF level to reachs the level in the control group (P > 0.05). Second and third doses of α-tocopherolsignificantly increased the number of spiralis arterioles compared with CS group (P < 0.05), to reached the similar level in the control group (P > 0.05).Exposure to tobacco smoke in rats can increase uterine cervix MDA level significantly compared to the control (P< 0.05). The α-tocopherol in various doses cansignificantly reduce MDA level compared to the CS (P <0.05), but has not reached the levels of the control group. The number of epithelial cells in α-tocopherol-administered groupwas not significantly different compared with CS group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Administration of α-tocopherolcan increase the vascularization in endometrial uterine of rats exposed to tobacco smoke. Besides, α-tocopherolinhibit uterine cervix oxidative stress, but can't induces the proliferation of uterine cervix epithelial cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, 257 animals from eight native Turkish sheep breeds (Akkaraman, Dağlıç, Gökçeada, İvesi, Karacabey Merino, Karayaka, Kıvırcık, Sakız) were investigated for three SNPs located at CVP79and MTRN1A genes which are important for reproductive traits. The A→G transition within CYP19, the C→T and G→A transitions within MTRN1A were investigated by using PCR-RFLP method. To analyze CYP19 locus Dral, for MTRN1A locus Mnll and Rsal restriction enzymes were used. Two alleles were found for all the loci investigated. These alleles named as A and G for CYP19, M and m for MTRNIA-Mnll, and R and r for MTRNIA-Rsal. A and m alleles were predominant at CYP19 and MTRNIA-Mnll loci, respectively. While R allel was prevalent in majority of breeds investigated, r allele was predominant in Sakız, Karacabey Merino, and Karayaka breeds for MTRNIA-Rsal. UPGMA test results show that the allele frequencies distributions of these loci can be used for calculating genetic distance between breeds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
