Glucose sensing remains a crucial need as diabetes is a worldwide concern. This work reports the application of Nb2CTx—selenium nanoparticle composite material for the nonenzymatic sensing of glucose. The surface morphology of the synthesized composite was analyzed using various microscopic techniques like scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and its structural properties were analyzed using diffraction and spectroscopic methods. A gold disc electrode was modified using the nanocomposite and tested for glucose in an alkaline medium. The sensing was based on the oxidation of glucose on the catalytic surface. The glucose was quantified amperometrically at a significantly lower overpotential of 0.16 V. The sensor showed a good detection range from 2 to 30 mM with a sensitivity of 4.15 µA mM−1 cm−2 and a detection limit of 1.1 mM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Water desalination technologies are crucial for addressing water scarcity. Two-dimensional (2D) porous nanomaterials offer a promising avenue to reduce energy consumption in this process. In desalination and related fields such as nanofluidics, the interaction of liquids with solid surfaces, known as wettability, plays a crucial role. Due to the intimate contact between liquids and solid, a fundamental understanding of interfacial properties in 2D nanomaterials is essential. This study explores the influence of pore size and shape on the wetting behavior of 2D nanomaterials, such as hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), which are promising candidates for water desalination and advanced nanofluidics applications. We employ electronic density functional theory (DFT) to calculate partial atomic charges on atoms in hBN and MoS2 nanomaterials containing pores. Our DFT calculations reveal a spatially varying charge distribution on these nanomaterials with pores, which we then incorporate into molecular dynamic (MD) simulations to elucidate their influence on the 2D nanomaterials–water interface. Our results indicate that pore size has a significant impact on the wetting behavior of MoS2, whereas its effect on hBN is minimal. In contrast, the pore shape affects the wetting properties of both nanomaterials. Furthermore, the water flow rate through these pores is strongly influenced by both the pore shape and size. Notably, hBN performs better than MoS2 in triangular pores, while MoS2 shows a higher water flow rate in hexagonal pores. These findings underscore the critical role of pore geometry in modulating the functional performance of 2D nanomaterials, offering insights into the design of advanced nanofluidics and desalination. Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), renowned for its formidable attributestensile strength (∼100 GPa), wide bandgap (∼6 eV), high thermal conductivity (227–280 W m–1 K–1), and chemical stabilityposes a challenge in functionalization due to its electronegativity variance between boron and nitrogen. In a breakthrough, we present unprecedented organometallic functionalization via chromium carbonyl vapor exposure. This approach forms a pristine η6 bond that preserves lattice planarity and interconnectivity between B- and N-centers, with the metal engaging each h-BN ring. Computational analysis validates spontaneous surface reaction (ΔG = −35.50 kcal/mol). Further, carbonyl groups seed silver nanoparticle growth, culminating in a conductive layer atop h-BN. This nondestructive, chemically versatile functionalization introduces a significant advancement in a multifunctional nanoscale interface, leveraging h-BN's thermal and structural properties for 2D FET electronic devices and sensing applications. Low electrical conductivity and high heat dissipation are crucial for electronic packaging materials. Additionally, friction is critical for the lifespan and energy efficiency of components. To address these requirements, polymer nanocomposites based on bio‐based polyamide 1010 and ultra‐low contents of 2D nanomaterials were produced by melt‐blending. Graphene oxide, hexagonal boron nitride, and molybdenum disulfide were selected for their two‐dimensional structure and electrical insulation, providing high thermal conductivity while preserving the polymer's dielectric nature. Hybrid nanocomposites were also produced to explore potential synergistic effects. Results showed all compositions maintained the polymer's intrinsic dielectric properties. Although the friction coefficient increased slightly compared with neat polyamide, all nanocomposites remained within the low‐friction range required for low‐friction materials. Thermal conductivity improved by 5%–10% compared with unfilled polyamide, with hybrid systems performing slightly better, indicating a minor synergistic effect. Despite these enhancements being modest compared with the literature, achieving high thermal conductivity usually requires over 20 wt% of nanofiller, which is detrimental to mechanical performance. In this study, at most 0.5 wt% was used, with composites being obtained directly through melt‐blending. Robust electrochemical sustainability of tailored high‐performance nanocomposites is integral to advanced electrochemical energy conversion and storage (EECS) systems. Functions, such as nanoscale ionic‐diffusion distance, electrocatalytic reactions, electrical conductivity, and fluid distribution, of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD)‐based nanostructures have been extensively designed and studied. However, challenges in materials selection, operational scalability, and design flexibility of TMD‐incorporated metal‐matrix composites (MMCs) consisting of non‐noble metallic nanostructures and their originating TMD materials have scarcely been studied. Highlighting the effectiveness of emerging additive manufacturing techniques in sustainable energy supply and storage, laser powder bed fusion (L‐PBF) can offer a directly added dual‐functionality to fabricated complex multimaterial and TMD‐incorporated MMC electrocatalytic electrodes. In this review, the characteristics of composite powder feedstock and optimizing process parameters are critically emphasized from another perspective to maintain a balance between mechanical robustness and enhanced electrochemical response. It is demonstrated how factors such as surface roughness, particle shape, and rheological characteristics of TMDs can influence the flowability of composite powder feedstock and the electrochemical performance of L‐PBF‐processed electrodes. The review further aims to contribute compiled information for use in the rapidly growing global market for advanced energy storage systems, underscoring the transformative potential of L‐PBF and TMD‐incorporated MMCs in modernizing the EECS components. Black phosphorus (BP), a two-dimensional material, has gathered significant attention over the last decade, primarily due to its unique physiochemical properties and potential role in various biomedical applications. This review provides an in-depth overview of the synthesis, nanomaterial properties, interactions, and biomedical uses of BP, with a particular focus on wound management. The structure, synthesis methods, and stability of BP are discussed, highlighting the high degree of nanomaterial biocompatibility and cytotoxicity. The antimicrobial properties of BP, including mechanisms of action and preclinical studies to date, are examined, emphasizing the effectiveness of BP against various clinical pathogens relevant to wound management. Additionally, the versatility of BP in biomedical implementations is highlighted through utilization in drug delivery, imaging, and photothermal therapy, with a focus on scalability and reproducibility with outlined future perspectives. Despite identified challenges for translation in clinical uses, BP nanomaterial has significant potential as a versatile platform in biomedical applications, especially in wound management. Carbonitride MXenes, such as Ti3CNTx, Ti2C0.5N0.5Tx, and Ti4(C0.2N0.8)3Tx, have attracted much interest in the large family of two‐dimensional (2D) nanomaterials. Like their carbide MXene counterparts, the nanolayered structure and functional groups endow carbonitride MXenes with an attractive combination of physical and chemical properties. More interestingly, the replacement of C by N changes the lattice parameters and electron distribution of carbonitride MXenes due to the greater electronegativity of N as compared to C, thus resulting in significantly enhanced functional properties. This paper reviews the development of carbonitride MXenes, the preparation of 2D carbonitride MXenes, and the current understanding of the microstructure, electronic structure, and functional properties of carbonitride MXenes. In addition, applications, especially in energy storage, sensors, catalysts, electromagnetic wave shielding and absorption, fillers, and environmental and biomedical fields, are summarized. More than 1.3 billion tons of foodstuffs are wasted each year because of their storage, handling, transportation or sale, resulting in the world suffering from famine and food shortages. This means that huge amounts of the resources utilized in food production are wasted. Greenhouse gas emissions caused by food degradation that gets wasted results in serious environmental and human health impacts. Food losses could be caused by microbes, temperature, humidity, UV-lights, or other factors related to the current pandemics, that have serious jeopardy impacts on the food security and the environment. Thus, smart packaging-based 2D-nanomaterials (2DMs) including sensors and pH-responsive tags have developed for achieving the quality and prolong the shelf-life of foodstuffs. Because they are capable to detect, sense, record internal or external changes in the product's area. They also can give a prompt message or color changing to the producer or consumer to decide about the shelf lives and expiration dates for consuming the foodstuffs without deteriorating food and packaging. This study reviews the recent advancements in 2DMs regarding preparation, characterization, and applications including active/intelligent food packaging industries. Facile and green functionalization of 2DMs-based graphene oxide (GO) by folic acid or natural dyes enabling them be used in several sensor/artificial intelligence disciplines are discussed. Future insights on the challenges towards the potential outbreak prevention in foodstuffs and their control in long-term use and risk management of these materials are also discussed. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) in their many formulations have prompted an immense interest in nanomedicine and drug development. Numerous ZnO-NPs bioactive formulations demonstrate remarkable broad applications in deciphering their therapeutic effects and bioimaging. Their unique size, morphology-dependent properties and modifiable surface chemistry have made them promising candidates for translation into novel, alternative nanomedicines. ZnO-NPs demonstrate biocompatibility and are non-toxic with relatively required in-expensive production techniques. This review presents an in-depth comprehension of the synthesis, chemical and biological peculiarities of ZnO-NPs, including their varied manufacturing methods and their impactful applications in biomedicine. The physical, chemical and biological synthesis approaches that are unique for ZnO-NPs synthesis were comprehensively reviewed, followed by their applications in therapeutics (anticancer, antibacterial, drug delivery, skin treatment, antidiabetic and antioxidant), diagnostics (bioimaging and biosensor) and theranostics as well as their health hazards. ZnO-NPs exhibit antibacterial and anticancer activities, primarily through the liberation of zinc ions and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which disrupt the cell membrane. Their anticancer properties are additionally apprised with an escalation in caspase 3/7 along with the modulation of pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins. ZnO-NPs are reviewed to attenuate hepatocellular carcinoma. Further, this article comprehended various in-vitro and in-vivo therapeutic effects of novel drug formulations of ZnO-NPs. It also delved into two fascinating areas: ZnO-NPs’ performance in comparison with other NPs and the potential of ZnO-NPs heterostructures with 2D nanomaterials. The goal of this review is to inspire further research efforts to meet the growing needs of next-generation nanomedicine.

Nanomaterials can significantly improve the analytical performance of optical sensors for environmental pollutants. Two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) exhibits some unique physicochemical properties, such as strong light–matter interactions, bandgap tunability, and high carrier mobility, which are beneficial for constructing flexible optoelectronic devices. In this review, the principle and classification of 2D MoS2-based photodetectors (PDs) are introduced, followed by a discussion about the physicochemical properties of 2D MoS2, as well as the structure–property relationships of 2D MoS2-based photoactive materials for PDs to understand the modulation strategies for enhancing the photodetection performance. Furthermore, we discuss significant advances in the surface modification and functionalization of 2D MoS2 for developing high-performance PDs, particularly focusing on synthesis pathways, modification strategies, and underlying physiochemical mechanisms for enhanced photodetection capabilities. Finally, conclusions and research perspectives on resolving significant bottlenecks or remaining challenges are offered based on recent developments in 2D MoS2-based PDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

2D materials, owing to their nearly atomic thickness, have emerged as promising candidates across a broad spectrum of next‐generation devices and systems. In the post‐graphene era, molybdenum‐based dichalcogenides (MoX2, where X = S, Se, Te), possessing a graphene‐like structure, represent one of the most promising subsets among 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) due to their extensively researched and distinctive electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. Further with their distinct properties of different phases (2H, 1T) make it attractive for both fundamental and applied research. It finds diverse applications, spanning from optoelectronics to catalysis and sensor development. In this review article, the unique crystal structural properties of MoX2 are highlighted and their different synthesis methods, incorporating recent advancements in synthesis approaches discussed. Subsequently the recent development of MoX2 nanocomposite based on carbon, metal, metal oxide and various polymer discussed. Finally, the key challenges impeding the advancement of sensing applications and propose avenues for future development, drawing upon the current progress in 2D MoX2 and their nanocomposites also find mention in this review. One of the most fascinating 2D nanomaterials (NMs) ever found is various members of MXene family. Among them, the titanium‐based MXenes, with more than 70% of publication‐related investigations, are comparatively well studied, producing fundamental foundation for the 2D MXene family members with flexible properties, familiar with a variety of advanced novel technological applications. Nonetheless, there are still more candidates among transitional metals (TMs) that can function as MXene NMs in ways that go well beyond those that are now recognized. Systematized details of the preparations, characteristics, limitations, significant discoveries, and uses of the novel M‐based MXenes (M‐MXenes), where M stands for non‐Ti TMs (M = Sc, V, Cr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W, and Lu), are given. The exceptional qualities of the 2D non‐Ti MXene outperform standard Ti‐MXene in several applications. There is many advancement in top‐down as well as bottom‐up production of MXenes family members, which allows for exact control of the M‐characteristics MXene NMs to contain cutting‐edge applications. This study offers a systematic evaluation of existing research, covering everything in producing complex M‐MXenes from primary limitations to the characterization and selection of their applications in accordance with their novel features. The development of double metal combinations, extension of additional metal candidates beyond group‐(III–VI)B family, and subsequent development of the 2D TM carbide/TMs nitride/TM carbonitrides to 2D metal boride family are also included in this overview. Highlights Polymer nanocomposites boast complex microstructures with instant control of final performance, including mechanical strength, thermal stability, and crystallinity. Although tremendous studies have been devoted to understanding the structure–property relation of polymer nanocomposites, the effect of simultaneous nanomaterial contents on binary polymers remains unclear. Here, we report how the microstructure and rheological characteristics are subject to change upon adding a hybrid multi‐walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene nanoplatelet (GNP). We choose a refined binary system based on polypropylene (PP) as a commodity polymer with proven long‐standing applications, alongside ethylene‐butylene copolymer (EBC) with a random ethylene and butylene monomers orientation for better impact strength acquisition. Rheology and microscopy imaging support an adequate dispersion of both materials across the PP/EBC blend, similar to when a single‐particle nanocomposite is examined. Beyond investigating the heterogeneous nucleation role of CNT and GNP, the crystallinity rate and the half‐time parameter for completing the ordered transformation are calculated using the Avrami equations. The thermal stability as well as the mechanical properties of all nanocomposites reveal improved resilience under heat and external stress, leading to a rising trend in decomposition temperature, tensile strength, and modulus. Hybrid materials (HMs) combine the high diversity of functionalities of organic compounds with properties typical for inorganic materials, such as high mechanical strength or high thermal stability. Herein, HMs combining organic pigment molecules and TiO2 as inorganic component, with covalently linked components, i.e., so‐called class II HMs, are reported. The synthesis of such HMs is intrinsically challenging, as the apolar organic pigment component and the inorganic polar TiO2 component require different conditions for their respective formation. Herein, we circumvent this issue by employing solvothermal synthesis in superheated isopropanol, which through temperature tunability of the solvent properties allows for both generating and linking both components in one‐pot. First, it is shown that an organic benzimidazole‐based pigment molecule designed for readily binding to Ti can be synthesized solvothermally. Second, new class II titanium‐based HMs are generated from Ti(OiPr)4 and pigment precursors in a solvothermal reaction. The pigment@TiO2 HMs feature significant porosity and are structurally identified as layered structures of lepidocrocite‐like TiO2 linked via pigment molecules. These layered HMs assemble into hierarchical nanoflowers, and depending on the pigment segments, different interlayer spacings in between inorganic layers are observed. Monolayer 2D metal‐organic framework (MOF) nanosheets, characterized by abundant exposed active sites and tunable structure and function (such as altering the metal nodes or organic ligands), have emerged as a pivotal class of 2D materials, demonstrating irreplaceable applications across diverse research domains in materials and chemistry. This review provides a comprehensive survey of the latest research progress in the synthesis of monolayer 2D MOF nanosheets. Specifically, recent synthetic strategies, including top‐down and bottom‐up methods, are delved and their applications in gas separation, catalysis, sensing platforms, and energy storage are explored. Additionally, the challenges faced in the investigation of monolayer 2D MOF nanosheets are elucidated and future opportunities for these materials as a novel generation of 2D materials are outlined. MXene is a rapidly emerging group of two-dimensional (2D) multifunctional nanomaterials, drawing huge attention from researchers of a broad scientific field. Reporting the synthesis of MXene was the following breakthrough in 2D materials following the discovery of graphene. MXene is considered the most recent developments of materials, including transition metal carbonitrides, nitrides, and carbides synthesized by etching or mechanical-based exfoliation of selective MAX phases. MXene has a plethora of prodigious properties such as unique interlayer spacing, high ion and electron transport, large surface area, excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, exceptional volumetric capacitance, thermal shock, and oxidation resistance, easily machinable and inherently hydrophilic, and biocompatibility. Owing to the abundance of tailorable surface function groups, these properties can be further enhanced by surface functionalization with covalent and non-covalent modifications via numerous surface functionalization methods. Therefore, MXene finds their way to a plethora of applications in numerous fields including catalysis, membrane separation, energy storage, sensing, and biomedicine. Here, the focus is on reviewing the structure, synthesis techniques, and functionalization methods of MXene. Furthermore, MXene-based detection platforms in different sensing applications are survived. Great attention is given to reviewing the applications of MXene in the detection of biomolecules, pathogenic bacteria and viruses, cancer biomarkers food contaminants and mycotoxins, and hazardous pollutants. Lastly, the future perspective of MXene-based biosensors as a next-generation diagnostics tool is discussed. Crucial visions are introduced for materials science and sensing communities to better route while investigating the potential of MXene for creating innovative detection mechanisms. The rapid development of two-dimensional (2D) Nanomaterials, primarily graphene-based nanoplates or nanosheets, hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), dichalcogenides of transition metals (TMDs), MXenes, metal-/covalent- organic frameworks, (MOFs/COFs) over the last decade has been driven by the great success of graphene. Abstract The growing need for flexible and wearable electronics, such as smartwatches and foldable displays, highlights the shortcomings of traditional energy storage methods. In response, scientists are developing compact, flexible, and foldable energy devices to overcome these challenges. MXenes—a family of two‐dimensional nanomaterials—are a promising solution because of their unique properties, including a large surface area, excellent electrical conductivity, numerous functional groups, and distinctive layered structures. These attributes make MXenes attractive options for flexible energy storage. This paper reviews recent advances in using flexible MXene‐based materials for flexible Li−S batteries, metal‐ion batteries (Zn and Na), and supercapacitors. The development of MXene‐based composites is explored, with a detailed electrochemical performance analysis of various flexible devices. The review addresses significant challenges and outlines strategic objectives for advancing robust and flexible MXene‐based energy storage devices.

Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, characterized by their ultrathin profile and constructed from single or a few atomic layers, exhibit unique physical and chemical properties. These materials have recently emerged as a focal point in biomedicine, particularly in drug delivery, bio-sensing, and cancer therapy. Two-dimensional nanomaterials are widely employed in tumor immunotherapy due to their ability to modulate the tumor immune microenvironment and facilitate the delivery of crucial immunotherapeutic agents. Additionally, their integration with other therapeutic modalities can significantly enhance the overall effectiveness of cancer treatments. This review provides an initial overview of various 2D materials and their applications in tumor therapy. It progresses to a comprehensive analysis of how these nanomaterials influence the tumor microenvironment and immune cells, emphasizing their mechanisms and benefits in enhancing tumor immunotherapy. The review concludes by discussing prospective applications of 2D nanomaterials in cancer treatment, highlighting their substantial potential in advancing precision medicine and immune modulation.

The number of multi-drug-resistant bacteria has increased over the last few decades, which has caused a detrimental impact on public health worldwide. In resolving antibiotic resistance development among different bacterial communities, new antimicrobial agents and nanoparticle-based strategies need to be designed foreseeing the slow discovery of new functioning antibiotics. Advanced research studies have revealed the significant disinfection potential of two-dimensional nanomaterials (2D NMs) to be severed as effective antibacterial agents due to their unique physicochemical properties. This review covers the current research progress of 2D NMs-based antibacterial strategies based on an inclusive explanation of 2D NMs' impact as antibacterial agents, including a detailed introduction to each possible well-known antibacterial mechanism. The impact of the physicochemical properties of 2D NMs on their antibacterial activities has been deliberated while explaining the toxic effects of 2D NMs and discussing their biomedical significance, dysbiosis, and cellular nanotoxicity. Adding to the challenges, we also discussed the major issues regarding the current quality and availability of nanotoxicity data. However, smart advancements are required to fabricate biocompatible 2D antibacterial NMs and exploit their potential to combat bacterial resistance clinically.

This review highlights recent advancements in the synthesis, processing, properties, and applications of 2D‐material integrated hydrogels, with a focus on their performance in bone‐related applications. Various synthesis methods and types of 2D nanomaterials, including graphene, graphene oxide, transition metal dichalcogenides, black phosphorus, and MXene are discussed, along with strategies for their incorporation into hydrogel matrices. These composite hydrogels exhibit tunable mechanical properties, high surface area, strong near‐infrared (NIR) photon absorption and controlled release capabilities, making them suitable for a range of regeneration and therapeutic applications. In cancer therapy, 2D‐material‐based hydrogels show promise for photothermal and photodynamic therapies, and drug delivery (chemotherapy). The photothermal properties of these materials enable selective tumor ablation upon NIR irradiation, while their high drug‐loading capacity facilitates targeted and controlled release of chemotherapeutic agents. Additionally, 2D‐materials ‐infused hydrogels exhibit potent antibacterial activity, making them effective against multidrug‐resistant infections and disruption of biofilm generated on implant surface. Moreover, their synergistic therapy approach combines multiple treatment modalities such as photothermal, chemo, and immunotherapy to enhance therapeutic outcomes. In bio‐imaging, these materials serve as versatile contrast agents and imaging probes, enabling their real‐time monitoring during tumor imaging. Neural interfaces are crucial conduits between neural tissues and external devices, enabling the recording and modulation of neural activity. However, with increasing demand, simple neural interfaces are no longer adequate to meet the requirements for precision, functionality, and safety. There are three main challenges in fabricating advanced neural interfaces: sensitivity, heat management, and biocompatibility. The electrical, chemical, and optical properties of 2D nanomaterials enhance the sensitivity of various types of neural interfaces, while the newly developed interfaces do not exhibit adverse reactions in terms of heat management and biocompatibility. Additionally, 2D nanomaterials can further improve the functionality of these interfaces, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compatibility, stretchability, and drug delivery. In this review, we examine the recent applications of 2D nanomaterials in neural interfaces, focusing on their contributions to enhancing performance and functionality. Finally, we summarize the advantages and disadvantages of these nanomaterials, analyze the importance of biocompatibility testing for 2D nanomaterials, and propose that improving and developing composite material structures to enhance interface performance will continue to lead the forefront of this field. In this article, we propose a novel surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor design with the combination of two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials including copper, nickel, and graphene, along with a bonding layer of black phosphorous, to achieve significant enhancements in plasmonic performance. Theoretical analysis of the parameters has been performed using the Fresnel equations and Transfer Matrix method, based on the Kretschmann setup. For the CaF2 Prism/Cu/Ni/Graphene/BP/Sensing-Medium configuration, the optimized performance parameters include an angular sensitivity of 410°/RIU, a detection accuracy of 0.33789°, a figure of merit (FOM) of 138.538 RIU/deg, and a limit of detection of 2.439 for the medium being sensed at 633 nm. The utilization of both graphene and BP proves advantageous in increasing the SPR sensor's sensitivity since BP and graphene possess stronger adsorption energy, making it a more suitable candidate for actively binding biomolecules. The proposed device showcases considerable potential for the detection of large-sized molecules such as secretary vesicles and lysosomes. Thermoelectric materials are important in waste heat utilization and clean energy development due to environmental and energy issues. In advanced thermoelectric applications, two-dimensional nanomaterials offer substantial advantages due to their exceptional bending stiffness and natural flexibility. The first-principles study has been used to predict the electronic structures and thermoelectric transport characteristics of BiOClBr, BiOClI, and BiOBrI monolayers. The results indicate that the three monolayers are semiconductors with an indirect band gap and high stability. The Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity are efficiently enhanced by the valence band valley and high carrier mobility. Moreover, a small phonon group velocity, short phonon relaxation time, large Grüneisen parameter, and phonon scattering phase space are responsible for the low lattice thermal conductivities of 1.66 (BiOClBr), 0.98 (BiOClI), and 1.51 W m–1 K–1 (BiOBrI) at 300 K. Under n-type doping, BiOClBr and BiOClI monolayers have optimal ZT values of 2.30 and 4.35 at 300 K and up to 4.78 and 7.83 at 700 K, respectively. For the BiOBrI monolayer with p-type doping, the optimal ZT values are 5.98 at 300 K and 10.01 at 700 K, which outperform some previously published Bi-based thermoelectric materials, suggesting that the three monolayers are promising Bi-based candidate thermoelectric materials. Layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with high aspect ratios enhance the alignment of polymer chains and induce a preferred orientation of the polymeric crystallites when incorporated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). In addition to offering an effective charge‐transfer mechanism, TMDs give PVDF more rigidity and piezoelectric qualities. This work reports the non‐solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) introduced while developing the PVDF/MoS2 composites. During the NIPS, the PVDF chains become phase‐separated, which induces high polarization in the PVDF matrix. Phase‐separated PVDF/MoS2 composites show high porosity and charge distribution attributed to the enhanced piezoelectric output voltage. While the neat PVDF demonstrated very feeble output voltage generation, the hybrid composite containing 2 wt.% of MoS2/ZnO facilitated almost 20 times higher performance (peak‐to‐peak voltage of 2.4 V). This work yielded a phase‐separated composite that finds uses in energy harvesting, sensors, and actuators, among other fields. Absorption is the most widely used carbon dioxide (CO2) removal technology. The CO2 absorption performance of monoethanolamine (MEA), the most commonly used CO2 absorbent, can be improved by suspending nanoparticles. This work examined the performance of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) as additives to enhance CO2 absorption in MEA. The GNPs were characterized by HRTEM, FTIR, and XRD. The study examined the influence of GNP concentrations on CO2 absorption at room temperature. The images from HRTEM confirmed that the implemented graphene consists of several layers of graphene sheets. Increasing the loading of particles increased the solubility of CO2 until the optimum concentration was reached. From this work, it is evident that incorporating GNPs into MEA enhances the CO2 absorption performance of MEA. Thus, the addition of nanoparticles to the absorbent can enhance its CO2 absorptivity. Graphene oxide (GO) has attracted huge attention in biomedical sciences due to its outstanding properties and potential applications. In this study, we synthesized GO using our recently developed 1-pyrenebutyric acid-assisted method and assessed how the GO as a filler influences the mechanical properties of GO–gelatine nanocomposite dry films as well as the cytotoxicity of HEK-293 cells grown on the GO–gelatine substrates. We show that the addition of GO (0–2%) improves the mechanical properties of gelatine in a concentration-dependent manner. The presence of 2 wt% GO increased the tensile strength, elasticity, ductility, and toughness of the gelatine films by about 3.1-, 2.5-, 2-, and 8-fold, respectively. Cell viability, apoptosis, and necrosis analyses showed no cytotoxicity from GO. Furthermore, we performed circular dichroism, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses to decipher the interactions between GO and gelatine. The results show, for the first time, that GO enhances the mechanical properties of gelatine by forming non-covalent intermolecular interactions with gelatine at its amorphous or disordered regions. We believe that our findings will provide new insight and help pave the way for potential and wide applications of GO in tissue engineering and regenerative biomedicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
