ABSTRACTThe objective of our study is to determine whether Cıubs providing wrestling training and wrestiingtraining center in Bursa conduct the selection by ability tests for potential wrestJers whenaccepting trainees and if such tests are conducted, to determine the selection methods. To reach our purpose, questio,:naires have been applied to 100 wrestlers and 50 sports andwrestling trainers covered by the research. Data collected had been placed into tables andevaluated according to frequencyand 1-% calculation.During the research it has been established that ability selection (ests had been made notaccording to scientific methods, but simply by watching the candidates wrest/e. Despite the factthat trainers and sports instructors employed at wrestling training center and wrestling clubs inBursa state that selection by ability tests should be based on determination of anthropometricfeatures, the truth is that according to statements of the trainers and the wrestJers, ability testexaminees are tested by observing their wrestling in process. it has been found out that thisdiscrepancy owns its existence to the difficulties of scientific method application and not to theunsuitability of scientific methods when selecting able wrestlers.Key Words:Wrestling-Ability-Method.

The aim of present study was to assess the effect of intermittent hypoxic training (IHT) on anaerobic power, aerobic capacity and dynamic muscular maximum strength (1-RM) in elite freestyle wrestlers. Thirty elite freestyle wrestlers (mean age 23.4 ± 4.1 years; height 169.1 ± 15.4 cm; body mass 74.2 ± 10.4 kg) who competed in Turkish First Wrestling League voluntary participated in present study. A pre-post randomised controlled training intervention design was employed to analyse the effect of an IHT program on anaerobic power, aerobic capacity and dynamic muscular maximum strength. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups: the first group performed normal usual normoxic wrestling training (∼ sea level) during a 8-week period (CG), while the second group performed usual normoxic wrestling training plus an IHT program (twice a week) in ~2000 m altitude during a 8-week period (IHTG). In conclusion, the use twice a week of intermittent hypoxic training increased anaerobic power, 1-RM and aerobic capacity of elite freestyle wrestlers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Aim: To evaluate if static stretching influences peak and end-range functional hamstring-to-quadriceps (H/Q) strength ratios in elite women athletes., Methods: Eleven healthy female athletes in an elite competitive level participated to the study. All the participants fulfilled the static stretching or non-stretching (control) intervention protocol in a randomized design on different days. Two static unassisted stretching exercises, one in standing and one in sitting position, were used to stretch both the hamstring and quadriceps muscles during these protocols. The total time for the static stretching was 6 ± 1 min. The isokinetic peak torque measurements for the hamstring and quadriceps muscles in eccentric and concentric modes and the calculations for the functional H/Q strength ratios at angular velocities of 60°/s and 180°/s were made before (pre) and after (post) the control or stretching intervention. The strength measurements and functional strength ratio calculations were based during the entire- and end-range of knee extension., Results: The pre-test scores for quadriceps and hamstring peak torque and end range values were not significantly different between the groups (P > 0.05). Subsequently, although the control group did not exhibit significant changes in quadriceps and hamstring muscle strength (P > 0.05), static stretching decreased eccentric and concentric quadriceps muscle strength at both the 60°/s and 180°/s test speeds (P < 0.01). Similarly, static stretching also decreased eccentric and concentric hamstring muscle strength at both the 60°/s and 180°/s test speeds (P < 0.01). On the other hand, when the functional H/Q strength ratios were taken into consideration, the pre-intervention values were not significant different between the groups both during the entire and end range of knee extension (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the functional H/Q strength ratios exhibited no significant alterations during the entire and end ranges of knee extension both in the static stretching or the control intervention (P > 0.05)., Conclusion: According to our results, static stretching routine does not influence functional H/Q ratio. Athletes can confidently perform static stretching during their warm-up routines.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the acute effects of pre- performance lower limb massage after warm-up on explosive and high-speed motor capacities and flexibility. Twenty-four physically active healthy Caucasian male subjects volunteered to participate in this study. All subjects were from a Physical Education and Sport Department in a large university in Turkey. The study had a counterbalanced crossover design. Each of the subjects applied the following intervention protocols in a randomised order; (a) massage, (b) stretching, and (c) rest. Before (pre) and after (post) each of the interventions, the 10 meter acceleration (AS), flying start 20 meter sprint (FS), 30 meter sprint from standing position (TS), leg reaction time (LR), vertical jump (VJ) and sit & reach (SR) tests were performed. A Wilcoxon's signed rank test was used to compare before and after test values within the three interventions (massage, stretching and rest). The data showed a significant worsening, after massage and stretching interventions, in the VJ, LR (only in stretching intervention), AS and TS tests (p < 0.05), and significant improvement in the SR test (p < 0.05). In contrast, the rest intervention led only to a significant decrement in TS performance (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the present findings suggest that performing 10 minute posterior and 5 minute anterior lower limb Swedish massage has an adverse effect on vertical jump, speed, and reaction time, and a positive effect on sit and reach test results. Key pointsPerforming 10 minute posterior and 5 minute anterior lower limb Swedish massages has an adverse affect on vertical jump, speed, and reaction time and a positive effect on sit and reach test results.According to the present results, long duration massage should not be recommended for warm-ups.Larger subject pools are needed to verify these events.
