This research study aims to measure the Open Access (OA) friendliness of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) of India that are listed in the overall category of NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework), 2021 by taking into consideration four important OA parameters – i) OA publication share; ii) OA licensing scenario; iii) citation impact of OA publications; and iv) altmetric scores of OA publications. It deals with 64,485 publications of the selected 11 NITs during the period from 2012 to 2021 (10 years), citations received by these publications (5,42,638 citations), and altmetric attention scores of the documents (5,213 publications) during the period under study. A data carpentry tool, namely OpenRefine, and open access bibliographic/citation data sources such as Unpaywall, Dimensions, and Altmetric.com have been deployed to accomplish this large-scale study for ranking NITs by their Open Access Friendliness (OAF). The OAF indicator, as applied in this study, is a distributed weightage based 100-point scale built on top of the aforesaid OA parameters. The ranking framework shows that Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (est. in 1961) has achieved the top position with a score of 52.12 (out of 100), but in totality only 3 NITs (out of the selected 11 NITs) crossed the 50 per cent mark in the adapted OAF scale.

Evolving financial behavior, an unpredictable public policy atmosphere, and an unparalleled global pandemic have collaborated to disrupt nonprofit fundraising. The COVID-19 pandemic alone exacerbated consumer demands for nonprofit services while curtailing nonprofit organizations' ability to fundraise. Without fundraising, nonprofit organizations cannot achieve their mission or support their causes, leading to a precarious situation for societal well-being. Meanwhile, consumers are changing their financial behaviors, with younger generations often going cashless. At the same time, governments continue to change policies that affect nonprofit organizations. In keeping with the transformative consumer research movement, the present study provides a conceptual framework for the state of nonprofit fundraising amid the challenges associated with changes in financial behavior and public policy, coupled with the effects of the global pandemic. Marketing strategies for fundraising success are presented to aid nonprofits going forward and serve societal interests.

Indian central universities against some open access indicators based on 100 points scale. It applies a data carpentry tool namely Open Refine to measure the open access friendliness of Indian universities. This ranking framework consists of two primary areas viz. OA publications share and OA license share, including five factors (OA share, Gold and Green OA share, Repository share, OA license share and Gold & Green license share). The present study has analysed a total of 85916 publications of ten central universities that are listed in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), 2021 covering 28.43% of publications under four OA routes (Gold OA, Green OA, Hybrid OA and Bronze OA). The study has proposed an OAFI ranking framework for measuring the web presence of said universities. It is found that Visva Bharati University ranks 1st scoring 64.04 (out of 100) points and Tezpur University has scored the lowest points i.e., 48.75 (out of 100).

Purpose Technological progress and the advancement of the 4th Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) are well underway. However, its influence on the transformation of core sectors from the perspective of consumer well-being remains under-explored. Seeking to bridge this gap in the marketing and public policy literature, this study aims to propose a conceptual framework to explicate how data-driven, intelligent and connected IR 4.0 technologies are blurring traditional boundaries between digital, physical and biological domains. Design/methodology/approach This is a conceptual paper using primarily a literature review of the field. The authors position the work as a contribution to consumer well-being and public policy literature from the lens of increasingly important in our technology-integrated society emerging technologies. Findings The authors define and conceptualize technology-enabled well-being (TEW), which allows a better understanding of transformative outcomes of IR 4.0 on three essential dimensions of consumer well-being: individual, societal and environmental. Finally, the authors discuss public policy implications and outline future research directions. Originality/value The authors highlight specific gaps in the literature on IR 4.0. First, past studies in consumer well-being did not incorporate substantial changes that emerging IR 4.0 technologies bring, especially across increasingly blurring digital, physical and biological domains. Second, past research focused on individual technologies and individual well-being. What is unaccounted for is the potential for a synergetic, proactive effect that emerging technologies bring on the aggregate level not only to individuals but also to society and the environment. Finally, understanding the differences between responses to different outcomes of technologies has important implications for developing public policy. Synergetic, proactive effect of technologies on core sectors such as healthcare, education, financial services, manufacturing and retailing is noted.

The Cosmic Ray Albedo Neutron Decay (CRAND) is believed to be the principal mechanism for the formation of inner proton radiation belt -- at least for relatively higher energy particles. We implement this mechanism in a Monte Carlo simulation procedure to calculate the trapped proton radiation at the low Earth orbits, through event-by-event interaction of the cosmic ray particles in the Earth's atmosphere and their transportation in the magnetosphere. We consider the generation of protons from subsequent decay of the secondary neutrons from the cosmic ray interaction in the atmosphere and their transport (and/or trapping) in the geomagnetic field. We address the computational challenges for this type of calculations and develop an optimized algorithm to minimize the computation time. We consider a full 3D description of the Earth's atmospheric and magnetic-field configurations using the latest available models. We present the spatial and phase-space distribution of the trapped protons considering the adiabatic invariants and other parameters at the low Earth orbits. Purpose Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) technologies have strong potential to affect consumer well-being, positively or negatively, so the current paper aims to review potential opportunities and threats that these technologies represent for consumers in several core economic sectors: health care, education, financial services, manufacturing and retailing. Design/methodology/approach This paper proposes a conceptual framework for how IR 4.0 technologies affect consumer well-being in five representative sectors: health care, education, financial services, manufacturing and retailing. The authors argue that the potential transformations of these specific sectors, facilitated by these technologies, may have profound effects on consumer well-being, with urgent public policy implications. Findings Emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, three-dimensional printing, machine learning and blockchain, provide customers with novel approaches toward decisions regarding health, education, finances and other fundamental parts of their lives. The organizations that provide these services, such as hospitals, universities and banks, actively adopt the innovations offered by IR 4.0. These evolving and disruptive technologies thus are changing reality for consumers and providers. Originality/value This paper proposes some novel public policy implications of IR 4.0 technologies for consumer well-being, and it outlines further research directions that can enhance understanding of relevant technologies and the consequences of their use for society.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is implemented for surface modification of titanium alloy substrates with multilayered biofunctional polymeric coatings. Poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) and polycaprolactone (PCL) polymers were embedded with amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and vancomycin (VA) therapeutic agents to promote osseointegration and antibacterial activity, respectively. PCL coatings revealed a uniform deposition pattern of the ACP-laden formulation and enhanced cell adhesion on the titanium alloy substrates as compared to the PLGA coatings. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed a nanocomposite structure of ACP particles showing strong binding with the polymers. Cell viability data showed comparable MC3T3 osteoblast proliferation on polymeric coatings as equivalent to positive controls. In vitro live/dead assessment indicated higher cell attachments for 10 layers (burst release of ACP) as compared to 20 layers (steady release) for PCL coatings. The PCL coatings loaded with the antibacterial drug VA displayed a tunable release kinetics profile based on the multilayered design and drug content of the coatings. Moreover, the concentration of active VA released from the coatings was above the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration, demonstrating its effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain. This research provides a basis for developing antibacterial biocompatible coatings to promote osseointegration of orthopedic implants

We performed a detailed modelling of the background counts observed in a phoswich scintillator X-ray detector at balloon altitude, used for astronomical observations, on board small scientific balloon. We used Monte Carlo simulation technique in Geant4 simulation environment, to estimate the detector background from various plausible sources. High energy particles and radiation generated from the interaction of Galactic Cosmic Rays with the atmospheric nuclei is a major source of background counts (under normal solar condition) for such detectors. However, cosmogenic or induced radioactivity in the detector materials due to the interaction of high energy particles and natural radioactive contamination present in the detector can also contribute substantially to the detector background. We considered detailed 3D modelling of the earth's atmosphere and magnetosphere to calculate the radiation environment at the balloon altitude and deployed a proper mass model of the detector to calculate the background counts in it. The calculation satisfactorily explains the observed background in the detector at 30 km altitude (atmospheric depth: 11.5 $g/cm^{2}$) during the balloon flight experiment from a location near 14.5$^{\circ}$N geomagnetic latitude., 28 pages, 8 figures

With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, emergence of interdisciplinarity across and beyond engineering fields and how it is likely to influence management practice is being studied in this article. During the exploration and progression of knowledge from the 15th to 18th centuries, there was no established boundaries for disciplines, and scholars made simultaneous contributions in many knowledge domains. With the evolution of the first two industrial revolutions, a growth of specialization in engineering field of expertise began emerging in the 19th century. The second half of the 20th century saw the rise of the silos in engineering due to the requirement of disciplinary specializations. Advanced technologies such as personal computers and internet served as a major catalyst in accelerated growth in depth and breadth of knowledge in respective engineering discipline during the third industrial revolution. From a pedagogical perspective, two distinct types of interdisciplinary approaches are identified: 1) evolution of hybrid fields combining two or more existing fields, and 2) bolstering of existing fields with infusion of technological knowledge. Inclusion of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet-of-Things, and robotics will also be discussed. Examples such as smart cities, smart manufacturing, and innovations in the medical and health sectors will be used to demonstrate pedagogical approaches. The implications for management practice and three specific recommendations for managers in implementing interdisciplinarity are finally offered.

Additive manufacturing, or three-dimensional printing technologies, for biomedical applications is rather different from other engineering components, particularly for biomedical implants that are intended to be used within the human body. This article contains two sections: "Design and Manufacturing Considerations of 3D-Printed, Commercially Pure Titanium and Titanium Alloy-Based Orthopedic Implants" and "Device Testing Considerations Following FDA Guidance" for additive-manufactured medical devices. These are further subdivided into five major focus areas: materials; design, printing, printing characteristics and parameters as well as postprinting validation; removal of the many manufacturing material residues and sterilization; physical, chemical, and mechanical assessments of the final devices; and biological considerations of all the final devices including biocompatibility.

The chicken embryo is a widely accepted animal model to study the auditory brainstem, composed of highly specialized microcircuitry and neuronal topology differentially oriented along a tonotopic (i.e., frequency) axis. The tonotopic axis permits the segregated encoding of high-frequency sounds in the rostral-medial plane and low-frequency encoding in caudo-lateral regions. Traditionally, coronal brainstem slices of embryonic tissue permit the study of relative individual iso-frequency lamina. Although sufficient to investigate anatomical and physiological questions pertaining to individual iso-frequency regions, the study of tonotopic variation and its development across larger auditory brainstem areas is somewhat limited. This protocol reports brainstem slicing techniques from chicken embryos that encompass larger gradients of frequency regions in the lower auditory brainstem. The utilization of different slicing methods for chicken auditory brainstem tissue permits electrophysiological and anatomical experiments within one brainstem slice, where larger gradients of tonotopic properties and developmental trajectories are better preserved than coronal sections. Multiple slicing techniques allow for improved investigation of the diverse anatomical, biophysical, and tonotopic properties of auditory brainstem microcircuits.

Magnesium alloys are the most widely studied biodegradable metals for biodegradable vascular stent application. Two major issues with current magnesium alloy based stents are their low ductility and fast corrosion rates. Several studies have validated that introduction of Li into the magnesium alloys will significantly improve the ductility while alloying with Al will improve the corrosion resistance and strength. In the present study, we studied the effects of alloying different amounts of Li and Al on the Mg-Li-Al-Zn (LAZ) quaternary alloy system. Rods were made from four different LAZ alloys, namely, LAZ611, LAZ631, LAZ911, and LAZ931 following melting, casting, and then extrusion. Systematic assessment of mechanical properties, in vitro corrosion, cytotoxicity, and in vivo degradation including local and systemic toxicity conducted demonstrated the beneficial effects of Li and Al on the mechanical properties. Our results specifically suggest that alloying with Li significantly improved the ductility while Al enhanced the strength of the LAZ alloys. Four of the LAZ alloys exhibited different corrosion rates in Hank's balanced salt solution depending on the chemical composition. Indirect in vitro cytotoxicity tests also showed lower cytotoxicity for the alloys exhibiting higher corrosion resistance. In vivo corrosion rates in the mouse subcutaneous model showed different corrosion rates compared to the in vitro tests. Nevertheless, all of the four LAZ alloys displayed no local and systemic toxicity based on the histology analysis. This research study, therefore, demonstrated the benefits of using Li and Al as alloying elements in LAZ alloys and the potential use of LAZ alloys for vascular stent application.
