Background: Wound healing has a vital importance for the organism and various agents are used to accelerate wound healing. Although the effect of boron on wound healing is known, its mechanisms are not completely clear yet. In this study, the effect of boron in the Ephrin /Eph pathway will be evaluated. Methods: Forty adult female rats were used in the study. A full-thickness excisional wound model was created in all groups divided as Control, Fito, Boron and Plu groups. After the applications performed twice a day and lasting 7 days, skin tissues obtained and evaluated histopathological (inflammatory cell infiltration, oedema, and fibroblast proliferation density) and immunohistochemical (TNF-α, EphrinA1, EphrinB1, EphrinB2 and EphB4). Results: Inflammatory cell infiltration score was found to be higher in the Fito group compared to Boron group (p =.018). Fibroblast proliferation density was higher in Plu group than Boron group (p =.012). While TNF-α was lower in boron group than Plu (p =.027) and Fito (p =.016) groups, EphrinA1 was higher in Boron group than Plu group (p =.005). EphrinB1 expression was higher in Boron group compared to Plu (p =.015) and Fito (p =.015) groups, and the same difference was also observed in EphrinB2 (p values.000). Similarly, EphB4 immunoreactivity was higher in the Boron group compared to Plu (p =.000) and Fito (p =.002). Conclusion: One of the mechanisms of action of boron in wound healing is to increase EphrinB1, EphrinB2 and EphB4. Background/Aim: Cervical cancer (CC) is the most common gynecological malignancy in women. In spite of a variety of treatment protocols, it is necessary to carefully investigate all factors that play a role in the pathogenesis of these tumors which may have mortal progression. In this context, in our study we aimed to assess the myeloperoxidase (MPO) gene polymorphism, an important inflammatory enzyme, among cervix cancer cases. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 79 cases diagnosed as cervical carcinoma between 1992-2012 is included. The cases without archival paraffin blocks and clinical follow-ups are excluded. All slides with tumor involvement are reviewed and the ones which demonstrate tumor's characteristics are determined. After block determination 3 sections with 10-micron thickness obtained from paraffin blocks and MPO gene polymorphism was shown using acil restriction endonuclease enzyme with the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method after polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The histopathological parameters including tumor stage and type, lymph node metastasis, ovary and endometrium involvement, recurrence and late metastasis are compared with genotype using chi-square and Fisher's exact test. Results: The mean age of cases was 51.3 (10.9) years. Of 79 cases, 29 (36.7%) had AG (adenine-guanine) and 50 (633%) had GG (guanine-guanine) genotypes. Only endometrium involvement was identified to have a statistically difference with MPO gene polymorphism among the assessed histopathologic parameters (P=0.015). When clinical parameters are assessed, there was no difference identified between genotype and mortality (P=0.622). Conclusion: Cervical cancer is thought to have progressive and regressive characteristics of tumor development due to the inflammatory response of the host. Within this framework, in our study assessing gene polymorphism of one of the inflammatory response foundation stones of MPO, we identified more endometrial involvement for cases with AG genotype. Aim: The types and frequencies of esophageal diseases that cause complaints such as burning, spasms, painful swallowing and swallowing difficulties vary according to the countries and regions. We aimed to determine the frequency of esophagus diseases observed in in Kars province. Material and Method:478 esophagus endoscopic biopsies, which were processed andevaluated in the pathology department of our hospital between 2014 and 2016were included in the study. Frequency analyzes were performed with SPSS 20.0package program. Results: Of the 478 patients included in thestudy, 43.1% had active chronic esophagitis, 40.0% had chronic esophagitis, 15.7% had esophageal mucosa at morphological limits and 1.2% had esophagus carcinoma. Barrett esophagus and dysplasia were noted in 21.8% and 1.3%, respectively. Conclusion: In our study, we found that the ratio of esophagitis and barrett esophagus in the province of Kars is above the country and World mean. We think that endoscopic examinations should be made more frequent and due to the reason that barrett's esophagusis a risk factor for esophagus carcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Today, complaints about the upper gastrointestinal system are frequently encountered among the reasons for referral to health facilities. The most effective method for evaluating these symptoms is endoscopic examination and histopathologic evaluation. In our study, we aimed to evaluate gastric endoscopic biopsy evaluations performed in Kars province histopathologically. Material and Method: Between 2014 and 2016, 1457 patients who applied to our hospital and underwent stomach biopsy were included in the study. Analysis was performed with SPSS 20.0 software package. Results: There were 484 (33.2%) chronic gastritis, 921 (63.2%) active chronic gastritis, 40 (2.7%) invasive adenocarcinomas, 1 (0.1%) intramucosal adenocarcinoma, 1 (0.1%) hyperplastic polyp, 1 (0.1%) villous adenoma and 9 (0.6%) gastric mucosa at morphological limits in the 1457 cases included in our study. Conclusion: We tried to evaluate the frequency of histopathological findings in gastric endoscopic biopsies performed in Kars province in a single center study. Objective: Autophagy is a physiological process playing role in cellular homeostasis. However, autophagic anomalies are associated with many pathological conditions such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Rottlerin is an important autophagic activator, which may be used to evaluate the relationship of autophagy with diseases and may be applied in treatment strategies. Nevertheless, there are no studies in the literature regarding the doses of this molecule in activating autophagy in rats. The aim of this study is to investigate the effective dose level of Rottlerin on autophagy in rats. Method: Twenty four rats were divided into 4 groups with 6 rats each. The solvent (DMSO) of the Rottlerin was given to Group I (control group). Group II, III, and IV were administered Rottlerin(0.5, 2, and 4 mg/kg) intraperitoneally, respectively. The heart tissues of rats were examined in terms of autophagic vacuole, LC3B levels, and anti-LC3B staining pattern. In addition, LC3B levels were measured in blood samples. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of autophagic vacuole, LC3B levels, and anti-LC3B staining pattern in heart tissues. As the dose of the Rottlerin increased, a tendency to increase in serum LC3B levels was observed. However, the differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion: In conclusion, according to our findings, it is seen that the dose and/or application time should be increased in order to activate autophagy in heart tissue by using Rottlerin in rats. Background: Bevacizumab is a chemotherapeutic drug, which selectively binds to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and mainly inhibits angiogenesis and neovascularization. We aimed to study the possible effects of bevacizumab on right ventricular pressure (RVP), right ventricular hypertrophy, and VEGF, in hypoxia - induced pulmonary hypertension (PH) rat model., Methods: 24 adult Wistar Albino rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group - saline; Bevacizumab Group; PH Group; PH + Bevacizumab Group. In hypoxia - induced model, 10% oxygen and 90% nitrogen were applied in a plexiglas box for eight days to PH Group and PH + Bevacizumab Group. On day eight, RVPs were measured directly from the heart, and then animals were sacrificed. Heart and lung tissues were examined, and Fulton index was measured., Results: RVP, Fulton index, and tissue VEGF scores were significantly lower in PH + Bevacizumab group than PH group: median (ranges), RVP, mmHg, 37.8 (33.0-39.0) and 32.3 (28.0-35.0), p: 0.01; Fulton index: 0.30 (0.29-0.33) and 0.25 (0.24-0.26), p: 0.003; tissue VEGF scores: 5.1 (4.8-5.3) and 4.0 (3.8 4.1), p: 0.004, respectively., Discussion: Bevacizumab, which is indeed an antineoplastic agent, might have a favorable effect on hypoxia - induced pulmonary hypertension.
