Objectives To demonstrate efficacy equivalence of CT-P47 and EU-approved reference tocilizumab (r-TCZ) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods This double-blind, phase III study randomised (1:1) patients to receive CT-P47 or r-TCZ (8 mg/kg) every 4 weeks until week 20 during treatment period (TP) 1. Prior to week 24 dosing, patients receiving r-TCZ were randomised (1:1) to continue r-TCZ or switch to CT-P47; patients receiving CT-P47 continued CT-P47 (TP2, 8 mg/kg every 4 weeks until week 48). The dual primary endpoints (for different regulatory requirements) were mean changes from baseline in Disease Activity Score in 28 joints (DAS28; erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)) at week 12 and week 24. Efficacy equivalence was determined if CIs for the treatment difference were within predefined equivalence margins: (95% CI −0.6, 0.6 (analysis of covariance (ANCOVA)) at week 12 or 90% CI −0.6, 0.5 (ANCOVA with multiple imputation) at week 24). Additional efficacy, pharmacokinetic (PK) and safety endpoints, including immunogenicity, were investigated. Findings up to week 32 are presented.Results In TP1, 471 patients were randomised (234 CT-P47; 237 r-TCZ). The 95% and 90% CIs for the estimated treatment differences were contained within the predefined equivalence margins; the estimated difference in DAS28-ESR at week 12 was –0.01 (95% CI −0.26, 0.24) and at week 24 was −0.10 (90% CI −0.30, 0.10). Secondary efficacy endpoints, PKs and overall safety were comparable between groups up to week 32.Conclusions Efficacy equivalence, alongside comparable PK, safety and immunogenicity profiles, was determined between CT-P47 and r-TCZ in adults with RA, including after switching from r-TCZ to CT-P47.

Abstract Background To demonstrate equivalent efficacy of the proposed high-concentration (100 mg/ml), citrate-free adalimumab biosimilar CT-P17 to European Union-approved adalimumab (EU-adalimumab) in subjects with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods This randomized, double-blind phase III study ( ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT03789292) randomized (1:1) subjects with active RA at 52 centers to receive CT-P17 or EU-adalimumab 40 mg subcutaneously every 2 weeks until week 52. Results to week 24 are reported here. The primary endpoint was 20% improvement by American College of Rheumatology criteria (ACR20) response rate at week 24. Equivalence was concluded if the corresponding confidence intervals (CIs) for the estimate of treatment difference were within predefined equivalence margins: − 15 to 15% (95% CI; European Medicines Agency assumption); − 12 to 15% (90% CI; Food and Drug Administration assumption). Additional efficacy, pharmacokinetic, usability, safety, and immunogenicity endpoints were evaluated. Results 648 subjects were randomized (324 CT-P17; 324 EU-adalimumab). The ACR20 response rate at week 24 was 82.7% (n = 268/324) in both groups (intention-to-treat population). The 95% CI (− 5.94 to 5.94) and 90% CI (− 4.98 to 4.98) were within predefined equivalence margins for both assumptions and equivalent efficacy was concluded. Additional endpoints and overall safety were comparable between groups. Mean trough serum concentrations of CT-P17 were slightly higher than those of EU-adalimumab. Immunogenicity was slightly lower numerically for the CT-P17 group than for the EU-adalimumab group. Conclusions CT-P17 and EU-adalimumab have equivalent efficacy and comparable safety and immunogenicity in subjects with active RA. Overall safety of CT-P17 is consistent with the known safety profile of reference adalimumab. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03789292 . Six easy laboratory procedures are presented for the oxidative iodination ofvarious aromatics, mostly arenes, with either molecular iodine or potassium iodide (usedas the sources of iodinating species, I or I3 ), in the presence of sodium percarbonate(SPC), a stable, cheap, easy to handle, and eco-friendly commercial oxidant.

An easy and safe, though only moderately effective method is presented forpreparing (diacetoxyiodo)arenes, ArI(OAc)2, from iodoarenes, ArI, using thecommercially available and easily handled urea-hydrogen peroxide adduct (UHP) as theoxidant. The reactions take place in anhydrous AcOH/Ac2O/AcONa (a catalyst)mixtures, at 40 oC for 3.5 h to afford the purified ArI(OAc)2 in 37-78% yields. The fullyinterpreted 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra of the ArI(OAc)2 products are reported.

Easy and effective preparations of nearly pure (diacetoxyiodo)arenes, ArI(OAc)2, from iodoarenes, ArI, are reported. In most cases the crude colorless products thus obtained need not be further purified, i.e., by recrystallization. As an example, the PhI(OAc)2 thus prepared was 99% pure (by iodometry).

Abstract Introduction In ORAL Surveillance, incidence rates (IRs) of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and malignancies (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer [NMSC]) in cardiovascular (CV)-risk-enriched patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were numerically greater with tofacitinib in North America versus the rest of the world, due to underlying risk factors. Here, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of tofacitinib versus tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi) among patients with RA across geographical regions. Methods Patients with RA in ORAL Surveillance (NCT02092467), who were aged ≥ 50 years with ≥ 1 additional CV risk factor, received tofacitinib 5 or 10 mg twice daily or TNFi; 45.9% were from either Poland or North America. This post hoc analysis stratified patients by region (Poland, North America, Other countries). Efficacy endpoints included Clinical Disease Activity Index, Disease Activity Score in 28 joints, with C-reactive protein (DAS28-4[CRP]), and Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI). IRs and hazard ratios for adverse events were reported. Results Of 4362 patients (Poland, N = 759; North America, N = 1243; Other countries, N = 2360), more patients from North America versus Poland/Other countries had CV risk factors such as body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2 and history of diabetes/hypertension; however, more patients from Poland versus other regions were ever smokers and more patients from Poland/North America versus Other countries had history of coronary artery disease. MACE IRs were similar in North America and Poland, and numerically higher versus Other countries. IRs for malignancies (excluding NMSC) were numerically higher in North America versus Poland/Other countries with tofacitinib. Serious infections IRs were numerically higher in North America versus Poland across treatments. Venous thromboembolism/all-cause mortality IRs were generally comparable across regions. DAS28-4(CRP)/HAQ-DI improvements were generally lowest in North America. Conclusions Differences in safety outcomes were driven by the presence of baseline risk factors; North America and Poland demonstrated a higher proportion of patients with some baseline CV risk factors/comorbidities versus Other countries. Plant oils are currently not only an essential element of the healthy eating pyramid, but also a valuable cosmetic material, which, in line with the eco-friendly trends of recent years, is effectively replacing petroleum-derived fatty ingredients. The fatty acids, phenolic compounds, pigments, and vitamins (e.g., A and E) present in plant oils contribute to their health-promoting properties, including antioxidant activity. This study assessed the contents of carotenoids and chlorophylls, as well as the antioxidant properties of 10 selected plant oils. Fenugreek seed oil was shown to have the highest total content of carotenoids, and the most β-carotene. Chokeberry and rosehip oils also contained large amounts of provitamin A, in comparison to the other oils tested. Lycopene was the dominant compound in black currant and rosehip seed oils. Among chlorophyll pigments, elderberry oil had the highest content of chlorophyll a, while black currant oil had large amounts of both chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. The antioxidant properties of the cold pressed oils obtained from selected seeds and fruit stones, assessed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy as the ability to interact with the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical, can be ranked as follows: pomegranate > fenugreek > poppy > black currant > chokeberry > rosehip > perilla > elderberry > carrot > fig. The results of this study showed that these plant oils are valuable natural materials with antioxidant properties, which can be an important complement to synthetic antioxidants due to their additional skin care properties.

The deployment of Blockchain technology in the tourism industry is already becoming a reality with the gradual emergence of innovative business models. At its core is the promise of improving the efficiency of the tourism service value chain and enhancing the quality of the service provided to the end customer. This paper analyses research trends focused on using Blockchain technology in tourism. The aim is to determine how this technology impacts the tourism sector and its sustainability. A systematic review, descriptive bibliometric analysis, and network analysis based on co-authorship, co-citation, and keyword analysis criteria, among others, have been used. The results reveal that the subject matter analysed is generating a growing trend in academic research in the fields of sustainable management and supply chain efficiency. The activities in the tourism sector that are incorporating this technology to a greater extent are those related to the areas of marketing, logistics, and smart business models, according to the data extracted from the analysis. This technology already enables the application of solutions that predict and promote tourist behaviour based on sustainable behaviour and consumption habits, generating value for the different stakeholders.

Aronia (chokeberry, Aronia melanocarpa) is a valuable fruit that combines the health benefits of green tea and red wine and is gaining popularity worldwide. Aronia has a unique chemical composition with strong antioxidant properties, including anthocyanins and chlorogenic acids (CGAs). However, it remains unclear which specific compounds or groups are primarily responsible for the antioxidant properties of chokeberry. Therefore, an analysis of the antioxidant properties of aronia berries based on geographical region and their variability during ripening (from green to frostbitten fruit) was conducted. The fruits were collected from three locations for two years. The aim of our work was to identify the compounds responsible for the antioxidant properties of aronia berry extracts by using chemometric methods. The analyses of anthocyanins and CGAs were performed using HPLC-DAD, and the antioxidant capacity was assessed by FRAP and DPPH methods. The PCA analysis also considered variations in temperature and precipitation. The chemometric analysis revealed a strong correlation between radical-scavenging properties and the content levels of chlorogenic acids. The results obtained in this study show that unripe green chokeberry fruits exhibit the highest antioxidant properties, which can be attributed to the high content of CGAs at this stage.

Presenteeism has often been considered as the correlate of absenteeism and associated to productivity loss. This study sought to re-examine the psychometric properties of the 6-item Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6), a popular measure which has been translated in a number of languages. The study adopted a cross-sectional design with 268 participants aged 18 - 65 working in a multinational IT company with headquarters based in Poland. The respondents participated willingly in an online questionnaire on a presenteeism health-related productivity measure (SPS-6), job resources (peer support), job demands (work-to-family conflict), engagement and burnout. Their responses were subjected to statistical analyses. Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed that the SPS-6 is better represented by two singular and independent components, namely completing work and avoiding distractions, rather than an aggregated measure of health-related productivity. In fact, the aggregated measure had convergent and discriminant validity issues. We also assessed, via Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the explanatory role of the SPS-6 within the wider well-being discourse by subjecting its’ factors as outcomes using the JD-R framework. Here, burnout was better at explaining its relationship to avoiding distractions and completing work compared to engagement, while avoiding distractions was more dominant than completing work in explaining indirect pathways. Given the convergent and discriminant validity of its two-dimensional measures, we argue that the SPS-6 is a better assessment of health-related productivity in the light of presenteeism when keeping both components separate rather than adding the scores from both dimensions to provide a global score as has been the practice so far. In addition, the SEM findings suggest that both SPS-6 components may require different theoretical explanations. This study supports a growing chorus of scholars who argue the need to look deeper into the presenteeism phenomenon, not least its measures.

Publikacja sygnalizuje najistotniejsze problemy wynikające z nowego stanu prawnego, zwraca uwagę na szeroki zakres podmiotowy i przedmiotowy odpowiedzialności dostawców, który nie ogranicza się do odpowiedzialności za naruszenie prawa autorskiego, oraz na związek ze staraniami o unormowanie problematyki związanej z korzystaniem z tak zwanej sztucznej inteligencji.

Objectives: To present a personalized approach in three cases of treatment-resistant, locoregionally aggressive forms of cANCA-positive granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and skull base involvement. Methods: Three patients with GPA and skull base involvement were described alongside a critical review of the current literature. Results: All presented patients suffered from GPA with an inflammatory tumor at the skull base, alongside cerebellopontine angle involvement, cranial nerve palsies, cerebellar disorders, concomitant hearing loss, and severe otalgia. Symptoms were associated with progressive granulomatous destruction of the temporal bone, laryngopharynx, and central nervous system infiltration. Treatment with cyclophosphamide and high doses of glucocorticoid steroids were ineffective but subsequent therapy with rituximab was successful in the presented cases. The literature review showed that the course of the disease with skull base involvement is associated with poorer clinical and radiological responses to standard pharmacotherapies. Conclusion: Granulomatous inflammation localized in the skull base is associated with a more aggressive disease progression and is less likely to respond to pharmacotherapy. Standard induction therapy with cyclophosphamide and glucocorticoid steroids may be ineffective. A better response may be achieved by using rituximab and concomitant local treatment with glucocorticoid steroid injections.

Turmeric is a traditional Indian spice that has recently become very popular worldwide because it contains a powerful ingredient called curcumin, which has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, dietary supplements containing extracts rich in curcumin have gained great popularity. The main problems related to curcumin-containing dietary supplements are poor water solubility and the fact that they are often faked by using synthetic curcumin instead of the plant extract. In this article, we propose the use of the 13C CPMAS NMR method to control the quality of dietary supplements. The analysis of 13C CPMAS NMR spectra supported by GIPAW computations allowed us to identify a polymorphic form present in dietary supplements (which affected the solubility of curcumin) and to point out a dietary supplement that could be faked by using synthetic curcumin. Further PXRD and HPLC investigations confirmed that the examined supplement contained synthetic curcumin instead of the genuine extract. Our method can be used for routine control, especially because the investigation is performed directly from the capsule/tablet content and does not require any special sample preparation.

Aronia melanocarpa E. berries are a valuable component of the healthy diet. They are extremely high in phenolics exhibiting strong antioxidant properties. However, not much information is available on the chemical composition and bioactive potential of chokeberry leaves. Therefore, the analyses of sugars and phenolics of extracts from chokeberry leaves collected from June to October were performed using spectroscopic (NMR) and chromatographic (HPLC-DAD/RI, GC-MS) methods. The leaf extracts contained a significant amount of sorbitol, especially those made of leaves collected since June to July (avg. 145.2 mg/g d.w.). The average contents of Cya-3-Gal and chlorogenic acids in the extracts were at 0.52 mg g d.w. and up to 13.1 mg/g d.w., respectively. Chokeberry leaf extracts from green and red leaves were subjected to the in vitro study on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVCs). Both extracts suppressed TNF-α-induced surface expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 molecules, and exhibited anti-adhesive and anti-inflammatory properties. Green and red leaves may foster a therapeutic potential in the prevention of atherosclerosis and other pathological events involving leucocyte adhesion. That is why chokeberry leaves can be considered as a promising component of functional foods owing to the high content of chlorogenic acids and sorbitol.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of secukinumab 150 mg compared with placebo in the management of spinal pain and disease activity in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) at Week 8 and up to Week 24. The recently introduced term “two-photon vision” relates to the visual perception resulting from a simultaneous absorption of two photons by photoreceptors. In this study, we determined two-photon retinal sensitivity in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and compared it that in normal aging. Microperimetry was performed with visible (white) light and infrared (IR) light, which was perceived as green in the two-photon stimulation. In total, 45 subjects were included with one (better) eye studied. Furthermore, best-corrected visual acuity (VA) and ocular straylight were assessed. AMD resulted in decreased median (interquartile range) logMAR VA, i.e., 0.15 (0.05; 0.24), which in normal eyes was −0.02 (−0.06; 0.02). The two groups showed comparable straylight levels. Sensitivity to IR light was significantly lower in the AMD group (p < 0.001): 8.3 (7.4, 9.3) dB than in controls 10.7 (9.7, 11.2) dB. AMD also significantly affected visible light sensitivity (p < 0.001): 14.0 (11.0; 15.5) dB vs. 18.0 (16.3; 18.9) dB. Notably, the two-photon approach yielded a lower data spread. In conclusion, AMD considerably impairs retinal sensitivity measured in the single- and two-photon realm. However, two-photon-vision microperimetry may improve the testing accuracy and offer an additional diagnostic parameter (beyond VA measurements) for retinal function assessment.

Introduction: Adipose tissue exerts widespread effects on the metabolism and immune system, but its activity differs between the genders. In the general population low-grade adipose tissue inflammation contributes to development of diseases of affluence. Little is known about the systemic impact of peripheral fat tissue in osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), characterized by chronic, low- and high-grade systemic inflammation, respectively. To clarify this we evaluated the secretory activity of subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue (SAAT) obtained from male patients affected with RA (n = 21) and OA (n = 13), and assessed its association with body mass and composition, demographic, clinical and laboratory data. Material and methods: Basal and interleukin (IL)-1β-triggered secretion of selected adipocytokines from SAAT explants was measured by specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Patients’ body composition was evaluated by bioelectric impendence technique. Results : Rheumatoid SAAT secreted more adiponectin and macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) than respective osteoarthritis tissue. In both RA and OA patient groups, stimulation of SAAT explants with IL-1β(1 ng/ml/100 mg tissue) significantly up-regulated release of pro-(IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor – TNF) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) cytokines but had no effect on the secretion of adiponectin, leptin, MIF and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). Compared with RA, patients with OA were more obese. In RA patients SAAT-released adiponectin and TNF inversely correlated with body mass index (BMI) and visceral fat rating (FVSC). In addition, SAAT-secreted adiponectin and leptin positively correlated with DAS28 and disease duration, respectively. In the OA group tissue-released TNF positively correlated with patients’ age. Conclusions : We conclude that in RA male patients adipocytokines originating from SAAT are of clinical importance because: (i) adiponectin and TNF may contribute to maintenance of normal body composition and mass, (ii) in addition adiponectin may play a pathogenic role. Moreover, in both RA and OA male patients secretory activity of SAAT may vary with time.

Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott’s (chokeberry) besides anthocyanins contains significant amounts of hydroxycinnamic acids: Chlorogenic and its isomer neochlorogenic acid. They exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial activities, thus they can have a significant impact on the health-promoting properties of Aronia. The aim of our research was to determine the changes in the content of chlorogenic acids (CGAs) and anthocyanins during fruit development and ripening, with a particular emphasis on acids. Aronia fruit samples were collected from July to October on two organic farms in Poland. The chemical composition of the extracts was determined by NMR spectroscopy and HPLC-DAD. 1H-NMR and HPLC data were analyzed using chemometric analysis and multivariate statistics (PCA). The results showed that the content of chlorogenic acids and anthocyanins changes during ripening and depends on the time of harvest and the region of cultivation. A correlation between the time of CGAs reduction and the appearance of anthocyanins was also noticed. The result of our research was also a database in the form of NMR parameters, which allows analysis of the metabolite profile and tracking of its changes. The 1H-NMR spectrum showing anthocyanin and CGA resonance can be considered the Aronia berry fingerprint.

The aim of the present study was to determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in freeze-dried extracts of rose fruits (Rosa rugosa) obtained using various extraction techniques and to determine the effect of a selected extract on bacterial survival in model fluids imitating protein food. Ethanolic extracts from rose fruits showed higher antioxidant activity compared to other tested extracts. The rose fruits aqueous extract showed the highest inhibitory activity against most of the 10 bacterial strains tested. From the group of Gram-positive bacteria, the Bacillus cereus strain proved to be the most sensitive to the action of the rose extract. From the Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most sensitive. The reduction in the number of bacterial cells in matrices imitating protein food depended on the concentration of the aqueous extract used. However, at none of the concentrations used was a complete inhibition of bacterial growth observed. We have confirmed that the traditional extraction and freeze-drying of rose fruits is still suitable for the food industry due to obtaining extracts with good antibacterial and antioxidant properties and the use of bio-solvents, such as water or ethanol, which are easily available in high purity and completely biodegradable.

Pozytywne odczucia można wywołać między innymi poprzez stworzenie miłej atmosfery w miejscu sprzedaży, atrakcyjną witrynę sklepową oraz odpowiednią ekspozycję produktów na półkach. Według badań dwie trzecie decyzji, które podejmują konsumenci ma miejsce w punkcie handlowym. Co więcej, ponad 50% klientów jest skłonnych zostać w sklepie dłużej, jeżeli atmosfera panująca w sklepie im odpowiada[1]. Atmosfera może być kreowana między innymi poprzez muzykę, zapach, oświetlenie czy barwy. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane narzędzie marketingu sensorycznego – audiomarketing. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na wykorzystanie muzyki w punkcie sprzedaży detalicznej. Podjęto próbę ustalenia, w jaki sposób muzyka wpływa na zachowanie klienta w sklepie. W pierwszej części przedstawiono podstawy teoretyczne dotyczące marketingu senso- rycznego. Następnie zaprezentowano wyniki badania pierwotnego i badań wtórnych dotyczących zachowania klienta w sklepie pod wpływem muzyki. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz można stwierdzić, ze odpowiednie odziaływanie na zmysł słuchu przekłada się na decyzje zakupowe klienta. Obecnie klienci oczekują, że zakupy będą dla nich przyjemnością, rozrywką, miło spędzonym czasem wolnym. To właśnie za pomocą muzyki detaliści mogą stworzyć odpowiednią atmosferę w placówkach handlowych, wpłynąć na emocje klienta, sprawić, że czas pobytu w sklepie zostanie wydłużony, klient wyda więcej pieniędzy oraz zapamięta dane miejsce. W Polsce w grudniu 2015 r. było zarejestrowanych około 106 tys. stowarzyszeń oraz 20 tys. fundacji[1]. Duża liczba organizacji pozarządowych, a w związku z tym trudności w pozyskiwaniu zasobów finansowych i pozafinansowych, sprawiają, że podmioty te poszukują nowych możliwości i rozwiązań także w obszarze zarządzania strategicznego. Organizacje pozarządowe (NGOs) stają zatem wobec wyzwań związanych z zarządzaniem strategicznym. Okazuje się, że organizacje non-profit są zainteresowanie zarządzaniem strategicznym, jednak są również świadome braku wiedzy i doświadczenia w tym zakresie. Co więcej, wykorzystują one tylko nieliczne metody formułowania strategii. Natomiast dzięki odpowiednio sformułowanej strategii organizacja pozarządowa mogłaby wyróżnić się spośród innych podmiotów trzeciego sektora. Zapewnić sobie przewagę konkurencyjną, poprawić i ustabilizować swoją sytuację finansową oraz stworzyć warunki do dalszego rozwoju. W polskiej literaturze brakuje również badań związanych z formułowaniem strategii przez polskie organizacje pozarządowe. Tylko w nielicznych badaniach polskiego sektora pozarządowego zwraca się uwagę na zarządzanie strategiczne oraz zagadnienia związane z formułowaniem strategii przez te organizacje. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie sposobów formułowania strategii z uwzględnieniem specyfiki organizacji pozarządowych. Podjęto próbę ustalenia, w jaki sposób organizacje trzeciego sektora formułują strategie. W pierwszej części przedstawiono podstawy teoretyczne dotyczące strategii oraz formułowania strategii. Następnie przedstawiono wyniki badań pierwotnych i wtórnych dotyczących formułowania strategii przez organizacje pozarządowe. W artykule przybliżono również koncepcję strategii synoptycznych oraz inkrementalnych. Następnie na podstawie badań własnych podjęto również próbę ustalenia, czy organizacje pozarządowe stosują strategie zamierzone, czy też niezamierzone. The article deals with the problem of demographic changes that take place in thefamilies living in towns of the Prussian partition in the 19th century and at the beginningof the 20th. The most important populational parameters have been presented; on the basisof these parameters it is possible to observe trends and the directions of changes, whichare part of a much wider, pan-European process of demographic transformation. Theresearch has been carried out on the basis of the information concerning a few towns ofthe Prussian partition (Toruń, Poznań, Gdańsk, Elbląg, Starogard, Chojnice, Chełmża).A special attention has been paid to a decreasing age of newlyweds, disappearing barriersfor mixed (interfaith) marriages, loosening of social and professional requirements, andweakening of the territorial barrier while choosing the spouse. The fact worth noticing isthat the interval between the day of birth and the day of baptism was longer than before.Other facts that are of interest are: a decrease of the rate of birth/mortality, as well asof the coefficient of births and deaths at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Anothersphere that has been researched is the value of infant mortality, quite high in the 19thcentury and slowly diminishing afterwards. A combination of civilisational processes,mental changes of human beings and changes in their customs had a decisive impact onthe shape and size of the family. It was the beginning of essential transformations, whichare still taking place now and keep influencing the demographic situation of the population.The article also contains a proposal of further demographic research on the Jewishfamily in the towns of the Prussian partition, because that subject is often omitted. In theend, some new directions of research have been suggested and an introductory literaturehas been given, too.

Artykuł poświęcono problematyce zarządzania personelem w organizacjach pozarządowych (NGOs). W pierwszej części przedstawiono specyfikę kapitału ludzkiego w organizacjach pozarządowych. Następnie przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących decyzji kadrowych w NGOs z Polski południowo-wschodniej.
