The application of mathematical biology and dynamical systems has proven to be an effective approach for studying viral infection models. To contribute to this research, our paper proposes a new CHIKV model that takes into account an adaptive immune response and distributed time delays, which accurately reflects the time lag between initial viral contacts and the production of new active CHIKV particles. By analyzing the model’s qualitative behavior, we establish a biological threshold number that can predict whether CHIKV will be cleared from or persist in the body. We demonstrate the global stability of both CHIKV-present and CHIKV-free steady states using the Lyapunov functional method and LaSalle’s invariance principle. In addition, we conduct numerical simulations to examine how time delays can affect the stability of the steady states. Through these simulations, we gain insights into how varying time delays can influence the persistence or clearance of CHIKV within the host. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes two models of a general nonlinear within-host Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) dynamics. The production, incidence, proliferation and removal rates of all compartments are modeled by general nonlinear functions that satisfy a set of reasonable conditions. The second model takes into consideration two forms of infected host cells: (i) latently infected cells which do not produce the CHIKV, (ii) actively infected cells which generate the CHIKV particles. We show that all the solutions of the models are nonnegative and bounded. The global stability of the steady states of the models is proven by applying Lyapunov method and LaSalle’s invariance principle. This paper proposes a latent Chikungunya viral infection model with saturated incidence rate. To take into account the time lag between the initial viral contacts uninfected monocytes and the production of new active CHIKV particles the model is incorporated by intracellular discrete or distributed time delays. We study the qualitative behavior of the model. Using the method of Lyapunov function, we established the global stability of the steady states of the model. This paper studies the stability of a mathematical model for within-host Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection. The model incorporates (i) two types of infected monocytes, latently infected monocytes which do not generate CHIKV until they have been activated and actively infected monocytes, (ii) antibody immune response, and (iii) saturated incidence rate. We derive a biological threshold number R0. Using the method of Lyapunov function, we established the global stability of the steady states of the model. We have proven that, when R0 ≤ 1, then Q0 is globally asymptotically stable and when R0 > 1, the endemic equilibrium Q1 is globally asymptotically stable.
