CAPITAL cities , *CITY traffic , *DIGITAL television , *TELEVISION stations , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
Objective: Media centralism and the lack of attention to the preferences and demands of local audiences is an obvious reality that must be faced by those who live outside large cities and capitals, understanding that there are audiences that demand local content, but that must settle for a programming produced from and for the capital, even more so when it comes to the Chilean television system. This article characterizes the tensions of local audiences in northern Chile in relation to their local television, also called proximity. Materials and methods: The study carried out a qualitative methodology, since it seeks to understand human behavior in a given territory and historical moment. The data collection was carried out using the technique of focus groups in order to explain and deepen the situations of people as local audiences and their feelings and thoughts on various problems. The focus groups discussed their local television and their link with national television considering the informational centralism and political centralism within the Coquimbo Region. The sample corresponds to the audience of cities belonging to urban and rural communes of the Coquimbo Region, in Chile, where there are local television media and that have declared their intention to migrate to digital television. The cities that are part of the study are: Andacollo, La Serena, Los Vilos, Illapel and Salamanca. For recruitment, the snowball method was used, with a total of 52 participants. All the participants were over 18 years of age with a residence of more than 10 years in the city. There was gender balance. Six focus groups were held in neighborhood offices in each city. The sessions were recorded and later transcribed, being systematized using the Atlas.ti software, version 9. Resulted: The results are described through three categories of analysis, regarding the opinions of the audiences: 1) Local information 2) National television: positive and negative aspects and 3) Information centralism and media demands. 1) Local information as a center of interest: Audiences place local news among their preferences. In each focus group, the informative genre of these media was highly valued and required. It represents a fundamental demand when evaluating local television positively. 2) Link with national television coverage: Along with the preference for local news, there is also an unfavorable opinion towards national news and towards the journalistic routines of the capital television stations whose coverage privileges the events that occurred in the Metropolitan Region in the information guidelines, often falling into sensationalism, especially when it comes to police court facts. 3) Information centralism and media demands: in the opinion of the participants, the tensions between the local and the capital are not only appreciated at the country level, but also between regional capitals, provinces and communes, following the political-administrative division of Chile. Conclusions: Regarding the characteristics of local television consumption, a first conclusion was the confirmation of the interest and consumption of local audiences in content that addresses issues related to their environment, an issue that is in line with previous studies on communication and local television. Similar to national television consumption, local news represented the preferred content. If there is a fire or a traffic accident in the city, audiences want to see it on their local television and, hopefully, live or as instantly as possible. This is informative content that does not compete in any case with national television, as it deals with local news events. Unless something out of the ordinary happens, whose connotation is national and in this case -the fewest times-the city, province or region makes news and appears nationally. A very important link was detected between local audiences with their own territories. The link was verified through two factors: a) the expectations of seeing local content not only on themes about their cities, but also from geographically broader places, such as communes, provinces or the Coquimbo Region itself; b) a large part of the social demands that underlie the opinions of the audiences surround feelings of belonging, desire for decentralization and local development. The need for representation of local audiences is verified, that is, seeing their territories on the screen, feeling reflected on national TV through their cultural, territorial, geographical, touristic, or other particularities is the cause that is associated Local (non-capital) audiences are part of a marginalized sector from a political and economic point of view. In this sense, there is a glimpse of a disconnection between the political/public world that promotes actions that should benefit the community, but that fail to reach potential users in a good way. In the same line of discussion, social demands for access to public information that benefits them and brings them closer to local political actors are detected. Know and understand the territorial public policies that result in a better quality of life. These social/political demands are intermingled with the media needs that could be channeled into more spaces to debate, talk and express their opinions to participate in the local public debate.

METADATA , *DIRECT action , *SOCIAL participation , *HOMOGENEITY , *SOCIAL media - Abstract
With the expansion of the digital culture, deep reflection on how to research audiences is necessary. If before the individual was placed in a social category determining cultural tastes, now technology identifies patterns of behavior from the direct record of their actions. This text explores the type of knowledge that can be gained on audience participation in TikTok. We propose a methodology that consist in the analyse of usage metadata. Fieldwork has focused on «A2ality», an information account with 4.4 million followers in Spain. We analyzed all videos shared during six weeks of the first quarter of 2023 (n=173). The purpose was to know (a) the degree of the linear correlation between the metadata of the same piece and (b) the existence of correlations between metadata and type of video/ content. For each metadata available in open (comments, likes, saves, shares and very high), four activity levels have been established (low, medium, high and top). The majority trend indicates that the levels obtained by the metadata of the same content are not coincident, that is, a video will have more or less scope according to the observed metadata. The homogeneity of the videos has caused that only clear correlations between topic and metadata are detected. Topics with less presence can reach high levels of activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WOMEN'S soccer , *CONSUMERISM , *CRITICAL thinking , *BRAZILIANS , *CONSUMER culture theory , *AUDIENCES , *SOCCER fans , *VISUAL culture - Abstract
Women's football had in the last World Cups, in 2019 and 2023, in addition to the recent editions of the Brazilian Women's Championship, symbolic milestones of advances in relation to the past of invisibility, consolidating the theme as an object of study that has been gaining strength in the academic and media debate in Brazil. There are still large gaps for the desired gender equality, but we can suggest that the key to the discussion involving the sport has gained a new chapter since then. If visibility has been gradually conquered, questions about how the market will deal with this new consumer culture have been gaining strength, especially regarding the media, audience and professionalization triad. The purpose of this article is to bring a critical reflection on the paths, advances and maintenance that are leading the sport to break audience records and begin to overcome the past of silencing to aim for new and greater flights. The Count Duke of Olivares was aware that the «valimiento» was an unpopular figure in Spanish opinion. Thanks to a group of writers in his service, he managed to dignify this figure by entering into (controversy with his detractors. Prominent among these authors was Francesco Lanario, a Neapolitan historian who served him effectively until the «Valido» dispensed with his services because he did not understand what was to be contained in a reatise on Patience that he had commissioned from him. In deciding to suppress the paronage of certain writers, the Count-Duke was very attentive to the «opinion of the world», to public opinion, to being an object of ridicule. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JOURNALISM - Abstract
The decline of local journalism, which has lost resources and influence, is reflected in phenomena such as "news deserts" that are increasingly prevalent worldwide. A recent study suggests that over half of the municipalities lack local news coverage in Portugal. This article proposes an analysis and reflection on the issues and challenges currently affecting local journalism, drawing on a review of recent literature. It is presented as the weakest link in the global media crisis, grappling with traditional business bankruptcies and platform competition. However, it is also uniquely adaptable to endure in an adverse context. The closure of local media, the struggle for survival among the remaining outlets, and the reluctance of journalists to involve audiences in defining news contribute to the erosion of proximity, albeit with some positive signs. Among these signs is a widespread acknowledgement of the significance of local journalism and a growing academic interest in this domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SPORTS journalism , *SOCIAL change , *SPORTS participation , *PROFESSIONS , *CLASSIFICATION - Abstract
Sports journalism behaves with daring, capable of challenging certain basic rules of the profession to become a kind of experimentation laboratory, exploring new narrative paths (TORRIJOS, 2022). In this sense, this article proposes a bibliographic review to address some of the concepts related to newsworthiness, news values and news selection, especially from the perspective of Traquina and Wolf, to perform a correlation of how these classifications dialogue with sports journalism and how this field gives a new meaning to certain values and makes others appear, being a fertile producer of debates that dialogue with the objective and the subjective. In addition, this work also proposes new news values that have arisen, essentially, through social changes, the impact of the powerful audience (MESQUITA, 2022), and technological evolution. - Abstract
The information published through the Geoportal of Madrid City Council can be freeely consulted, viewed and downloaded free of charge from anywhere in the world. Its data sets, series and map services are described with standardized metadata which define in detail the information published. However, the Laboratory for Geographic Information Technologies considered in 2020 the need to extend the use of its resources to profiles with little or no familiarity with Geographic Information Systems. The communication strategy of the General Subdirectorate for Innovation and Urban Information of the Governement Area for Urban Development is then put into action. Based on an ambitious communication plan, which becomes the backbone of the communicative work activity of the entire subdirectorate, the strategy developed from the professionalization of communication has made the technical information of the Geoportal to reach unimagined levels of diffusion. This article explains in detail how this communication strategy begins in a system that counts everything by itself, the relevance it has acquired over time and, ultimately, how the communication of georeferenced data in Madrid is currently managed.

This research article aims to study the influence and changes that information and communications technologies (ICT) have generated in the judicial process regarding the correction of the claim and testimonial evidence, as well as the effects of digital justice to hold judicial hearings in person or virtually studied in the constitutionality Statement C-134 of May 3, 2023 issued by the Constitutional Court of Colombia in which the constitutionality of the bill that modifies the law is reviewed statutory regulation of the administration of justice —Law 270 of 1996—. It is concluded that by applying technology and virtuality to the judicial process, the correction of the claim must be integrated into a single document and the testimonial evidence has been modified in the way in which the spontaneity of the witness is protected and the inconveniences of being ruled out due to inability when the witness has a relative inability to testify virtually. Likewise, the Constitutional Court's affinity for virtual hearings, whether or not they involve evidence, and the judge's determination to define the modality of the hearing, stand out. For its preparation, the dogmatic method of legal research has been used, which takes into account the legal provisions, doctrine and jurisprudence of the high courts in Colombia. Given that electoral campaigns are spaces for citizenship construction and children are interested in politics, recognizing them as a political communication audience would promote their rights. With an approach from cultural studies and qualitative methodology, the relationship of knowledge and expectations with assessments and proposals is analyzed as part of their process of making sense about the 2018 Mexican presidential campaign. There is evidence of self-recognition about the agency of girls and boys aged 10 to 12 years as political communication audience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Against the backdrop of the new attention economy (Giraldo-Luque & Fernández Rovira, 2020), which is based on attracting audience interest, this research analyses the production and distribution of media content through the emerging Telegram platform. Attracting the attention of the audience has become the main objective of the media in the digital environment. To achieve this aim, more personalised content is now being produced, and attempts are being made to reach the user in a more direct and personal way through instant messaging platforms, especially Telegram. Through a methodology based on data triangulation, documentary analysis, interviews, registration techniques, analysis sheets, as well as direct and indirect observation (Fernández-Ballesteros, 2004), this study addresses the rise of Telegram in journalism, in addition to the way in which the Spanish media distribute, produce, and use the information, as well as interaction with the audience. To this end, a strategic sample has been used, the results of which are applicable to the media analysed. The results of this research show that nearly half of the media analysed produce content and inform the user without considering interaction, while others try to approach the user with language that is informal and friendly, or through multimedia content such as videos, emoticons, and others. The media have suddenly appeared on Telegram in search of new market niches where they can produce content for new users, thereby pursuing the rationale of the attention economy. The article discusses the recent economic-political transformations in the organization of football over the last 20 or 30 years: the former non-profit sports "clubs" have been transformed into profit-oriented companies, commanded by mediatic-financial capital. The article suggests a theoretical approach relating the category "spectacle" in Debord's terms to categories of the Political Economy of Information and Communication. It concludes by considering football today as an industry that still mobilizes the emotions of millions of people but needs to be understood and regulated as it has become an important economic sector in the process of capital accumulation.

This paper presents a retrospective analysis of the free press from its origins to the present day. It is based on the hypothesis that advertising occupied an essential place in the evolution of the free press in Spain. For this reason, the role that advertising had in the origin, consolidation and decline of the free general information press in Spain is analyzed. The data reflects how unstable it is to subordinate the survival of the media to advertising revenue alone. The interest of this work lies in the importance that financing models are having in the media with the arrival of the Internet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increasingly complex relationship between conventional media, digital platforms, political actors and audiences merits an exhaustive analysis of the functions and relationships between them and the perceptions about media and media manipulation from youth audiences. This research addresses the manipulation of Bolivian television news content by commercial and political interests. The analysis has a Latin American theoretical-critical foundation, in which the qualitative technique of Group Discussion (GD) was applied to four groups of high school students in the main cities of Bolivia: El Alto-La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and Oruro. The originality of this work is based on considering the opinions of young people, primary consumers of audiovisual media, giving prominence to their concerns and ideas. As the main findings, it was evidenced that young students highlight the excessive political manipulation of information from public and community media, recognizing the need to develop media competencies to face the alleged social control. On the other hand, they propose citizen interpellation through the use of Information Technologies to democratize communication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
