Background: Medication errors may occur due to shortcuts and pressures on time and resources on nurses. Nursing students are enculturated into these environments where their perceptions of norms around reporting and responding to medication errors are formative, yet simulated medication administration experiences are rarely reflective of the real-world environment. such as the standard use of medication scanning technology. The purpose of the present study is to test a pilot intervention, Medication Quick Response (QR) code scanning, and evaluate its effect on medication errors during simulation when compared to traditional simulation medication administration practices and to assess the students' perceptions of the intervention. Methods: We conducted a quasi-experimental, observational study involving Junior and Senior (3rd and 4th year) undergraduate, pre-licensure nursing students from Spring 2022 until Fall 2023. Seven simulations were conducted in pediatric and obstetric courses. The intervention group used non-patented, low cost QR scanning during medication administration. The control group used standard manual administration. Medication errors were measured based on the quantity, type of error, and degree of patient risk. A Qualtrics survey was used to assess the students' perceptions of the intervention following simulation participation. Results: A total of 166 students participated in the study. In each course, 7 groups were assigned to the intervention and 8 were assigned to the control. More than half of the groups made at least one medication error (n = 17), one-third of groups (n = 10) made a high-risk medication error. There was no statistically meaningful difference in the rate, type, or potential patient risk of medication errors between the intervention and control groups. The majority of participants (n = 53) felt that QR scanning more closely mimicked medication administration in clinical settings. Half of the participants responded that it improved their safety practices (n = 37). Conclusions: The results of this pilot study indicate that while there is a high risk for error among pre-licensure nursing students, the use of QR scanning did not increase the risk of medication errors. Background: The use of high-fidelity simulators (manikins) and standardized patients (SPs) in simulation has been incorporated into many nursing schools throughout the nation to augment the clinical rotation experience. There is little to no data available on comparing undergraduate students' preferences between SPs and manikins in psychiatric nursing. Methods: A quantitative descriptive exploratory design was used to evaluate pre-licensure nursing students' preferences in both traditional 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and accelerated BSN programs (ABSN). Results: Overall, students preferred having an SP over a manikin to learn how to properly perform a nursing assessment on a psychiatric patient. Conclusions: Standardized patients offer a more realistic experience when assessing various domains of the mental status examination and when practicing therapeutic communication techniques in psychiatric nursing. Background: Academic support services can improve undergraduate and graduate nursing program outcomes such as program completion and passing the NCLEX. Academic success coaching complements traditional support strategies by providing study skills and time management tools, promoting goal setting and self-efficacy, and referring students to support resources. This review examined interventions that academic success coaches use to improve student success and retention, licensing examination pass rates, and academic success. Method: A scoping literature review identified types of interventions that resulted in significant improvement in student academic and holistic success. Results: Four classes of interventions were identified as effective in supporting student success: (1) academic support; (2) social and emotional support; (3) clinical guidance; and (4) course and program design. Conclusion: Academic coaches are educated to identify student needs, provide support, and refer students to resources to improve academic outcomes. Racism in nursing is multifaceted, ranging from internalized racism and interpersonal racism to institutional and systemic (or structural) elements that perpetuate inequities in the nursing profession. Employing the socio‐ecological model, this study dissects the underlying challenges across various levels and proposes targeted mitigation strategies to foster an inclusive and equitable environment for nursing education. It advances clear, context‐specific mitigation strategies to cultivate inclusivity and equity within nursing education. Effectively addressing racism within this context necessitates a tailored, multistakeholder approach, impacting nursing students, faculty, administration, professional organizations, and licensing and accrediting bodies. This all‐encompassing strategy recognizes that the interplay of interpersonal dynamics, community culture, institutional policies, and broader societal structures intricately shapes individual experiences. Nurses, nurse leaders, educators, organizations, and policymakers can work together to create a more equitable and inclusive nursing profession by targeting each of these levels. This transformational process can yield positive outcomes across various environments where nurses learn, work, and serve people and enable the demographic composition of nurses to better match the populations served. Nurses play a crucial role in reducing health disparities and advancing health equity for individuals and communities. The future nursing workforce relies on their nursing education to prepare them to promote health equity. Nursing educators prepare students through a variety of andragogical learning strategies in the classroom and in clinical experiences and by intentionally updating and revising curricular content to address knowledge and competency gaps. This critical review aimed to determine the extent to which health equity concepts are explicitly present in prelicensure undergraduate nursing curricula globally. Of 434 articles screened, 22 articles describing 20 studies met inclusion criteria. Frequency and quantity of health equity content, concepts and topics, teaching strategies, evaluation strategies, and the overall extent of integration varied widely. Notably, only two articles described overall well‐integrated explicit health equity content, and there was little attention to whether students transfer this learning into practice. A focus on individualism rather than population and community was noted, highlighting the presence of whiteness in nursing. Amidst a critical shortage of registered nurses, nursing schools are aiming to expand enrollment while working with ongoing resource constraints. Service‐learning clinical activities can enhance nursing education by improving clinical quality, addressing faculty and clinical site shortages, and meeting increasing enrollment demands. This paper describes a health fair experience that served as a service‐learning clinical experience within an undergraduate public health nursing course. The experience bridged theoretical knowledge with real‐world application, fostering competency‐based learning and addressing community health needs, resulting in a positive impact on students, faculty, and the community. Background: Undergraduate training in hand hygiene is a keystone of infection control. Several studies have shown overconfidence effects in hand hygiene practices, which can impair metacognition. We hypothesized that overconfidence might be prevalent in the early education stages of nursing students and that these effects could be reduced through frequent interactive learning formats, such as learning groups. Methods: We conducted a multicenter cross-sectional questionnaire with 196 German nursing students, including general, surgical, and anesthetic nursing specializations. Results: Overconfidence was observed in nursing students across all specialties and years of education. The cluster analyses showed three different types of learners: two characterized by overconfidence and one demonstrating justifiable confidence. Furthermore, the moderation analysis indicated that providing feedback and promoting metacognition regarding students' learning achievements could mitigate overplacement, particularly through the frequent implementation of interactive teaching formats. Discussion: Despite some limitations, these findings highlight the prevalence of overconfidence effects in nursing students, the presence of different learning profiles, and the importance of incorporating feedback within interactive learning formats concerning hand hygiene. Aim: Nurses' skills and confidence in providing oral care to patients play important roles in healthcare. Studies have proved that peer‐to‐peer learning and assessment can help improve nurses' skills and confidence. However, no study has investigated it using an objective assessment checklist. This study investigated an oral hygiene practice training program for nursing students. It focused on their oral healthcare skills, confidence, and perspectives regarding implementing an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). Methods: A pre‐ and post‐survey of 97 nursing students from a nursing school in Japan was conducted as a peer‐to‐peer oral health education training program that included an assessment and performance checklist. Results: Confidence in performing and assessing oral care significantly improved after attending the program. Furthermore, the changes were significantly greater in the developed program than in the training program without the checklist. The mean total assessment scores (0–25) of the first, second, third, and fourth participants in the four‐student groups were 22.1, 23.4, 23.9, and 24.1, respectively. The mean scores of the second, third, and fourth participant groups were significantly higher than that of the first participant group (p <.01). Fifty‐two positive and 58 negative comments were received regarding the implementation of the program with professional assessments and the checklist. The most common positive comment mentioned that the evaluation by professionals improved oral care learning and skills. COVID-19 presented fresh challenges for social work field education, requiring agile and innovative solutions. To address the scarcity of direct client-facing placements during the extended and unpredictable public health restrictions, Australian Catholic University (ACU) created the Simulated Placement Experience (SPE) for final-year students. The program immersed students into nine practice scenarios over a two-week (70-hour) intensive placement. Real-time feedback and reflective coaching sessions with a social work supervisor offered students enhanced learning and development opportunities applicable to multiple service settings and client presentations. The program was well received by participating final-year students, who highlighted that the experience enhanced their ability to perform and critically reflect on their direct practice skills. This article outlines the model and the initial evaluation of the pilot program using a Student Satisfaction of Simulation Survey tool. The findings of this evaluation reveal the potential for simulation to provide novel, valuable learning experiences to social work students for practice placements. COVID-19 restrictions presented an opportunity for social work field education programs to rethink the structure and nature of placement learning. Simulation-based learning provides social work students with enhanced learning and increased confidence as part of direct practice placements. There is scope to include supported simulation-based learning to enhance future social work field education programs; however, discipline-specific simulation standards and conceptual frameworks are needed. AIM The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the extent, range, and nature of RN-to-BS nursing education research. BACKGROUND The state of nursing education science specific to RN-to-BS education is not available. METHOD Scoping review methodology was used to identify categories and types of published research related to RN-to-BS nursing education. RESULTS Eight categories were identified across the 41 articles that met the inclusion criteria: teaching strategies (n =11), curriculum (n = 9), enrollment/retention (n =8), benefits of a bachelor's degree (n =4), student characteristics (n = 3), professional values (n = 2), role transition (n = 2), and faculty/student expectations (n = 2). CONCLUSION Opportunities exist for researchers to study RN-BS students and faculty to better support evidence-based teaching practices and faculty development needs relevant for the increasingly hybrid and online student populations. Introduction: It is necessary to re‐imagine nursing curriculums utilizing a postmodern approach, as outdated teacher‐centred methods of nursing education with emphasis on memorization versus critical thinking no longer meet the needs of the contemporary learner and the current challenges of the healthcare environment. There is an explicit need to redesign nursing curriculums that are future‐oriented, adaptive and flexible and serve the learners' best interests. Background: Distilled from a decade of teaching experience in an undergraduate, second‐degree entry, accelerated nursing program, this paper describes the construction of a learner‐centred, postmodern, concept‐based nursing curriculum that aims to foster learners' inquiry skills, critical thinking, problem‐solving, and experiential learning—all which develop learners' autonomy, self‐direction, and lifelong learning. The objective is to foster learners' transformational and emancipatory learning and metacognition. Discussion: An extensive review of the current trends, contemporary nursing knowledge for the past decade (2013–2023), and seminal literature on theories and frameworks paralleled with the review of current and future trends in Canadian and global health care, including the socio‐economic, politico and environmental contexts, led to the formulation of a concept‐based curriculum. Grounded in the constructivist paradigm, the curriculum applies interperetivist, critical, feminist, and indigenous lenses. The Strength‐Based Nursing framework was selected as the core guiding framework. The curriculum's four curricular themes and foundational pillars were adopted directly from the framework to provide a starting point for concept development. These initial themes were then juxtaposed with relevant nursing, and social theories, policies, and frameworks, ensuring a robust coverage of modern nursing knowledge and allowing for the core concepts of the curriculum to emerge. A total of 21 concepts and 192 sub‐concepts were developed. Conclusion: Implications for future practice require nursing educators to receive support and professional development opportunities in developing skills and confidence in entering a classroom as co‐learners and facilitators. Background: Nursing education programs continue to face an immense amount of change over a short period of time. The introduction of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) clinical judgement model (NCJMM), the Next Generation (NGN) version of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), and The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) have nursing programs quickly adjusting curriculum to meet national nursing education agency's recommendations for future nurses. Methods: This paper provides reflection and interventions for nursing educators and leaders to consider as they navigate the post-pandemic healthcare demands of new graduate nurses. Implementing activities encouraging critical thinking to build clinical judgement is paramount for undergraduate nursing curriculum. Conclusion: Curriculum must match the required knowledge and skills of their discipline. A virtual-reality-simulation-based nursing education program incorporating an information processing model helps nursing students develop their learned knowledge as nursing behavior and develop their ability to cope with complex clinical challenges. The purpose of this study is to develop a nursing education program using an immersive virtual reality simulation app for clinical situations based on an information processing model and identify the effects. A non-quantitative control group pretest–post-test design was employed. The programs were developed using the ADDIE model and an information processing model. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, six adult nursing learning issues were taught to the experimental group over 6 weeks. The nursing education program in this study provides comprehensive experiential learning through advanced virtual simulation, significantly enhancing nursing students' performance confidence, critical-thinking abilities, and problem-solving skills across a wide range of clinical scenarios. By repeatedly engaging with diverse learning topics related to adult nursing, this program not only equips students with essential practical skills but also contributes to the overall improvement of patient safety and the quality of medical care. Aim: To explore how undergraduate nursing students are assessed on nursing numeracy and medication calculations from the perspective of Australian nurse education leaders. Design: A qualitative study. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 17 nurse education leaders between November 2022 and January 2023. Braun and Clarke's six phases of thematic analysis were used to analyse the data. Results: Five key themes were identified: (i) high expectations to keep the public safe, (ii) diverse assessment formats, (iii) different ways of managing assessment integrity, (iv) assessment conditions incongruent to the clinical setting and (v) supporting struggling students. Conclusion: Nurse education leaders set high standards requiring students to achieve 100% in numeracy and medication calculation assessments, thus maintaining the reputation of nursing and patient safety. However, students struggled to meet this expectation. Diverse assessment formats were implemented, with some examination conditions contrary to clinical practice. Currently, there is no benchmark or independent point of registration examination in Australia, hence the problem is each university had a different standard to judge students' competence. Gaining insight into how these assessments are conducted provides an opportunity to work towards an evidence‐based model or benchmark for the assessment of numeracy. Implications for the Profession: Dosage errors in clinical practice threaten patient safety and the reputation of the nursing profession. The accuracy rate of calculations by undergraduate and registered nurses is deficient worldwide. This research highlights a major educational issue, that being the wide variation in how numeracy assessments are conducted with no clear pedagogical rationale for a standardised method. Aim: This study aims to explore the impact of emergency department internships on the attitudes towards death among undergraduate nursing students and their preferences for end‐of‐life care settings. Additionally, the study analyzes the reasons behind nursing students' choices of end‐of‐life care settings and provides insights for improving undergraduate education on attitudes towards death and end‐of‐life care, and provide reference for the development of emergency hospice care. Design: This study adopts an observational design with a self‐controlled before‐and‐after approach. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 96 nursing interns between July 2021 to June 2022. Demographic information and data on attitudes towards death, and preferences for end‐oflife care location were collected by online questionnaire. Paired test were conducted to compare differences between groups. Results: The study included a total of 96 nursing students with an average age of 21.11 years. The scores for the avoidance‐acceptance dimension of death attitudes before and after the internship were 2.40 (1.80, 3.00) and 2.20 (1.60, 3.00), respectively, showing a significant difference (Z = −2.084, p = 0.037). Factors such as gender, experience in caring for critically ill or dying patients, knowledge of death education, and discussions about death at home were found to influence nursing students' attitudes towards death. Nursing students expressed a preference for receiving end‐of‐life care and treatment in their homes or in hospice/palliative care wards, while the intensive care unit, emergency department, and nursing homes were the least preferred settings. There were significant differences in nursing students' preferences for end‐of‐life care settings before and after the internship (p = 0.000). Importantly, the number of nursing students expressing a desire to receive end‐of‐life care in the emergency department increased from 2 to 7 after the internship, while the number of students not wanting end‐of‐life care in the emergency department decreased by 5. Background: Collaboration and decision making among nursing students are essential competencies in nursing education. However, how students collaborate and make decisions in simulation is a complex phenomenon and not well understood. This study aimed to develop a framework that describes peer collaborative clinical decision making (PCCDM) among nursing students in simulation. Method: Charmaz's constructivist grounded theory method was used. The sample included 32 participants (16 dyads) from two nursing programs. Results: The PCCDM framework described three interrelated functional domains (cognition, behavior, and emotion) experienced through three interrelated processes (awareness, communication, and regulation), alternating between individual and collaborative spaces and changing across time according to the simulation's acuity levels. Conclusion: The PCCDM framework provides a model that reflects how these processes unfold over time in simulations, which can be applied in nursing simulation, classroom, and clinical settings that require students to make collaborative decisions. Purpose: This integrative review sought to systematically examine and synthesize published research on crisis response to identify ways in which undergraduate nursing education programs in various countries adapted to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Method: A computerized search of CINAHL, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases was performed. The literature search, review, and data extraction process followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) format of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. Results: Digital learning technology platforms were used in undergraduate nursing education in various ways to adapt to the teaching and learning challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Teaching and learning methodologies identified included online lectures and webinars; interactive virtual learning experiences, such as videos, presentations, quizzes, games, and other web-based interactive forms of multimedia files and textual content; and virtual simulations for nursing skills and tele-health experience. Background: Psychomotor skills, a cognitive and fine motor process, are an essential component to undergraduate nursing education. Currently, no national guidelines exist to guide nursing programs on the best way to educate students to ensure competent and safe practice of psycho-motor skills in the clinical setting. This review sought to determine what methods of education, training, and practice of psychomotor skills enhanced psychomotor skill competency in undergraduate nursing students. Method: An integrative review was conducted to determine teaching and practice strategies to support psychomotor skill competence. Results: Four significant categories were identified and included (1) simulation; (2) technology; (3) deliberate practice; and (4) theoretical and collaborative instruction. Overall, simulation and technology were found to be the most effective in psychomotor skill competence. Conclusion: Additional research is needed to identify which teaching strategies best support nursing students' long-term knowledge acquisition and competency as they transition into professional practice. Background: Virtual clinical simulation is a digital innovation that augments clinical reasoning and clinical judgment, narrowing the theory-practice gap, preparing new graduates for the Next Generation NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination), and mitigating the demand for clinical placement and clinical faculty. Method: The purpose of this article is to describe an educational innovation employing a virtual clinical simulation using the tenets of Tanner's Clinical Judgment Model and a National League for Nursing Advancing Care Excellence for Seniors unfolding case. Results: A virtual clinical simulation successfully served to replace direct care clinical for 86 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in a foundation nursing course, augmenting the students' ability to transfer and apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. Conclusion: This virtual clinical simulation served as a viable platform for teaching clinical reasoning and clinical judgment, mitigating the education-practice gap for new graduate registered nurses. Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has increased the rate of nurses leaving practice, which has highlighted the importance of new graduate nurse orientation. The literature has limited recommendations for orientation strategies. Method: The goal of this study was to determine what changes have occurred in orientation processes for new graduate nurses since the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey of nurse leaders was used to examine changes and opportunities. Results: Leaders are more intentional with orientation processes, including frequent check-ins and increased discussion of time management, difficult conversations, and workplace violence. Individualized orientation plans are used, along with a stronger focus on nurse wellness. Conclusion: Recommendations include continuing support after orientation is completed and partnering with academia to provide content on stress management and wellness. Background Simulation is an educational method that utilizes scenarios and simulators that aide to replicate real clinical situations. This research was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation and satisfaction following the use of high-fidelity simulation among nursing students studying at undergraduate level. Materials and Methods This is a quasi-experimental research study which was conducted in the simulation laboratory of Mangaluru, Karnataka. This study involves simulation-based learning to improve clinical competency among 100 B.Sc. nursing students. The presimulation self-efficacy was assessed by giving a questionnaire to the students. After the pretest, the researchers gave a brief introduction to the simulation scenario and explained the facilities available in the simulation laboratory. Learning objectives were explained and the samples were divided into small groups. The simulation was given using clinical scenarios and computer-assisted Human Patient Simulator for 45 minutes in the simulation laboratory. Postassessment of self-efficacy as well as student satisfaction assessment were performed using a questionnaire. Results The findings showed that the simulation is a productive learning strategy and builds confidence. After the simulation, 79% of students strongly agreed that their self-efficacy improved in the management of patients with respiratory emergencies. The results showed positive correlation between the variables which indicates higher level of self-efficacy improves satisfaction among learners. The present study results also revealed that 98% of students had good satisfaction and found debriefing very useful. Conclusion The high-fidelity simulation had a great influence on improving self-efficacy and satisfaction. Hence, simulation needs to be incorporated into the curriculum to enrich skills. Background: Despite the importance of collaboration and communication in global health, existing educational approaches often rely on traditional one-way instruction from instructor to student. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a newly developed undergraduate curriculum on global health in enhancing nursing students' competencies in global health and communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning skills. Methods: A 15-week course "Global Health and Nursing" was designed for undergraduate nursing students, and a collaborative project-based learning method was used. Study participants were undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the course. The study was a multi-method study and included quantitative and qualitative components. It employed a one-group pretest–posttest design to quantitatively assess the impact of the curriculum. Additionally, student experiences with the learning process were qualitatively explored through a focus group interview. A total of 28 students participated in this study, and 5 of them participated in the focus group interview. Results: The collaborative project-based learning method significantly improved global health competency (t = − 10.646, df = 22, p < 0.001), with a large effect size. It also improved communication skills (t = − 2.649, df = 22, p = 0.015), problem-solving skills (t = − 3.453, df = 22, p = 0.002), and self-directed learning skills (t = − 2.375, df = 22, p = 0.027). Three themes were found through the focus group interview: (a) Promoting global health competency; (b) Fostering life skills through collaborative projects; and (c) Recommendations for future classes. The focus group interview indicated that overall, the study participants were satisfied with the collaborative project-based method for global health education. Conclusions: This study confirms that project-based learning significantly boosts the competencies and skills of students, recommending its broader adoption in nursing education. Nursing instructors should consider adopting this teaching approach for global health education at the undergraduate level. Future studies may employ a longitudinal design to assess the prolonged effects of the collaborative project-based learning approach, particularly focusing on the long-term retention of skills and the broader applicability of this model across different educational settings. Background: The number of people suffering from chronic diseases requiring palliative care (PC) is increasing rapidly. Therefore, PC teaching in undergraduate health science programs is necessary to improve primary PC based on international recommendations and available scientific evidence. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. Active undergraduate medical and nursing programs that were approved by the Colombian Ministry of Education and integrated PC teaching into their curricula were included in the study. The total sample consisted of 48 programs: 31 nursing and 17 medical programs. Results: PC competencies are distributed throughout the curriculum in 41.67% of programs, in elective courses in 31.25%, and in mandatory courses in 27.08% of the programs. The average PC teaching hours is 81 for nursing and 57.6 for medicine. PC clinical rotations are not offered in 75% of the programs. For undergraduate nursing programs, the most frequent competencies taught are the definition and history of PC and identifying common symptoms associated with advanced disease. In undergraduate medicine, the most common competencies are pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management and identification of PC needs. Conclusions: PC teaching in undergraduate health science programs mainly addresses the conceptual and theoretical aspects of PC, which are part of the competencies present throughout the programs' curricula. Low availability of PC clinical rotations was identified. Future studies should assess whether the low availability of clinical rotations in PC limits the ability of students to develop the practical competencies necessary to provide quality PC. Introduction: Online learning has changed the educational environment and may influence the development of nursing skills, mastery, and competence in students. Objective: The study aimed to investigate how nursing students acquire procedural skills, achieve mastery, and build competence through online learning, considering the growing use of technology in healthcare education. Methods: This study utilized a qualitative descriptive research approach to investigate the experiences of 32 nursing students from the Nursing Department who had undergone online procedural learning. Semistructured interviews were conducted to collect in-depth insights. Purposive sampling was used to gather data with a profound understanding of the phenomenon. The data analysis encompassed a methodical content analysis coding procedure. Independent researchers reviewed the results to validate the findings. Results: Content analysis of the data identified three key themes: achieving nursing procedural knowledge through online learning, achieving nursing procedural skills with the power of online learning, and gaining procedural competence through online social and collaborative learning. Conclusions: Online learning played a significant role in shaping and enhancing nursing procedural knowledge, skills, and competence, emphasizing the importance of integrating technology training modules and staying updated with emerging technologies. Purpose: Empathy is essential for nursing students as they progress through their education. To date, few review studies explored empathy in nursing students. This review examined empathy in nursing students, including how to promote empathy, factors contributing to empathy, and the evaluation of empathy. Design: The eligible population included undergraduate nursing students. The concept of interest was empathy related to nursing students. The context was undergraduate nursing programs. Eligible studies included quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies. The protocol was registered in Open Science Framework (OSF). Review Methods: Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers' Manual guided this scoping review protocol. MEDLINE with Full text (EBSCO), Scopus, ScienceDirect (Elsevier), and PubMed were used for the electronic database search. The findings were analyzed with descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Findings: A total of 94 articles were included for analysis. Three main themes emerged: (1) approaches to promoting empathy, (2) contributing factors to empathy, and (3) evaluation of empathy. Conclusions: Empathy is cultivated in nursing in numerous ways, highlighting the need to incorporate it into the nursing curriculum. There is also controversy regarding the relationship between empathy and individual characteristics. Aim: To describe undergraduate nursing students' attitudes to learning during clinical practice in different semesters when using the conceptual learning model, Model for Improvements in Learning Outcomes (MILO) grounded in a caritative caring perspective. Background: With the intention to support interlinking between theory and praxis and offer understanding and structure to facilitate learning, MILO, theoretically grounded in hermeneutics and a caritative caring perspective based on ethical values, was implemented. MILO consists of four contextual concepts (peer learning, co‐clinical teachers, student‐centred and student‐active supervision) and four intrapersonal concepts (nursing, a reflective approach, a critical approach, quality and safety). Methods: A descriptive comparative quantitative study design was applied at a Swedish university, 3 hospitals and 13 municipalities in one county. Cross‐sectional data collected via a questionnaire developed to assess attitudes to learning related to MILO's contextual and intrapersonal concepts and their applications were used. Results: 209 students in semester 3, 4 and 6 participated in 6 different clinical practice courses. In comparison, intrapersonal concepts, that is, the student's own characteristics and abilities were viewed to be of greater value for learning than contextual, that is, organisational‐related concepts in all semesters. Understanding the needs of others and reflective learning were rated to be of major importance. Students in semester 3 valued the use of the applications the highest. To be supervised in pairs was rated the lowest in semester 6. Some of the concepts and their applications were to great extent not applied. Conclusions: In all semesters, fundamentals in caritative caring and characteristics and abilities related to the individual student were rated to be of greater importance for learning than environmental support. Providing students opportunities to develop independency seems essential. Use of a learning model such as MILO is dependent on a bearing of a caritative caring culture and a shared understanding between all involved in student learning during clinical practice. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital serious game intervention about COVID-19 on pre-registration nursing student knowledge. Method: This study included 282 nursing students from a university in Northern Ireland, with 210 students providing comparable pre-test and post-test results. The 'serious game' aimed to debunk common COVID-19 myths and provide accurate information about the virus. Participants completed a 25-item questionnaire before and after engaging with the game, which included true/false items based on the World Health Organisation's list of top COVID-19 myths. The data were analysed using paired t-tests to assess knowledge changes, and scores were calculated as percentages of correct answers. Results: A statistically significant improvement in COVID-19 knowledge was demonstrated among first-year nursing students who engaged with the serious game. The post-test scores (M = 92.68, SD = 13.59) were notably higher than the pre-test scores (M = 82.64, SD = 13.26), with a p-value less than 0.001. Conclusion: This research suggests that integrating serious games into undergraduate nursing education can effectively enhance COVID-19 knowledge. Background: The use of standardized patient simulation in psychiatric nursing education addresses the unique challenges presented by mental healthcare settings. Students' attitudes toward clinical simulation remain predominantly favorable, with many expressing enthusiasm for the opportunities it provides in terms of embracing challenges, enhancing realism, and promoting critical thinking through problem solving, decision-making, and adaptability. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional, descriptive, correlation design to investigate the effectiveness of standardized patient simulation as a teaching method in the Psychiatric and Mental Health nursing course in a university setting. A total of 84 nursing students were recruited for the convenience sample. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire survey which included the following: a demographic data sheet, the Student Satisfaction and Self-confidence in Learning Scale, and a narrative open-ended question asking the participants to write the advantages and disadvantages of their simulation experience. Data were analyzed using the statistical software JMP pro17. Results: The total satisfaction with learning subscale score ranged between 5 and 25 with a mean score of 19.36 ± 6.32. The total self-confidence subscale score ranged between 8 and 40 with a mean score of 30.87 ± 9.1. Pearson's correlation coefficient r revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between the participants' satisfaction with the learning experience and their self-confidence (t = 0.923, p < 0.0001). Approximately 91.7% of the students recommended using simulation. The results confirmed the students' recommendations of simulation use in teaching psychiatric and mental health courses; furthermore, the results showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the total SSLS (p = 0.01) and satisfaction with learning subscale (0.003). Participants reported that authentic, practical, comfortable, and safe learning environments contributed to an enriched learning experience. Additionally, factors such as timesaving, access to information, cost-effectiveness, standardized teaching, varied exposure, skill development, and immediate feedback also enhanced the learning experience through patient simulation in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Conclusion: Simulations can contribute efficiently and positively to psychiatric and mental health nursing education in a manner that optimizes the learning experience while ensuring the consistency of student learning in a safe learning environment. During their transition from basic to higher education, first-year undergraduate nursing students need to balance theoretical and clinical requirements, as well as their social life. A significant number of them struggle with this, due to a lack of coping mechanisms due to poor resilience. This study aimed to determine factors that influence resilience among first-year undergraduate nursing students at a South African university. A cross-sectional descriptive research design was followed, with stratified convenient sampling. Data were collected during August 2023 using an adapted self-administered online questionnaire. The reliability and validity of the adapted version was ensured in the context of this study. Principal component analysis and varimax rotation were used to analyse data. A total of 123 participants (47.2% from campus A and 52.8% from campus B) completed the questionnaire. The majority (88%) were females. This study showed that resilience can be dependent on various factors, such as lecturer support, parental support, academic achievement, peer and mentor support, optimism about the future, and self-determination. It is recommended that higher education institutions should consider incorporating the factors presented in this study as part of the broader orientation of first-year undergraduate nursing students when they first arrive at university. As the global population ages, nurses with a positive attitude toward caring for older adults is crucial. However, studies indicate that nursing students often exhibit negative attitudes toward older adults. This study aimed to determine if a three-phased educational intervention significantly improved nursing students' attitudes toward older adults. A pre/post-test study design was used to measure the change in nursing students' attitudes toward older adults, as measured by the UCLA Geriatrics Attitudes Survey, after participating in an Artificial Intelligence in Education learning event (n = 151). Results indicate that post-intervention scores (M = 35.07, SD = 5.34) increased from pre-intervention scores (M = 34.50, SD = 4.86). This difference was statistically significant at the 0.10 significance level (t = 1.88, p = 0.06). Incorporating artificial intelligence technology in a learning event is an effective educational strategy due to its convenience, repetition, and measurable learning outcomes. Improved attitudes toward older adults are foundational for delivering competent care to a rapidly growing aging population. Background: Baccalaureate nursing education has experienced tremendous challenges requiring new flexibility of moving among traditional classroom, online education, and other teaching modalities to improve student outcomes, combined with the pressing need for determining which educational methods deliver quality instruction while having a positive effect on outcomes. This systematic review explored different teaching modalities and measurable educational student outcomes in undergraduate baccalaureate education. Method: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Results: Of the 20 articles included in this systematic review, simulation, face-to-face, asynchronous, problem-based learning, gaming, flipped classrooms, reflective writing, tweets, and podcasts were represented. Three distinct educational outcomes that were identified included competence, confidence, and communication. Conclusion: A variety of educational methodologies drives positive outcomes in educating the next generation of nurses to have increased competence, confidence, and improved communication. Background: Empathy is an essential trait in nursing practice that improves the quality of patient care. Nursing curricula that incorporate empathy-based experiential learning (i.e., hands-on educational experiences and reflections designed to foster and develop emotional intelligence) promote students' self-awareness and confidence when providing care to patients. This scoping review examined studies that explored the effects of educational interventions on the development of empathy in undergraduate nursing students. Method: Searches were conducted in MEDLINE using keywords related to nursing education and translated into CINAHL, EMBASE, and ERIC databases. Results: A total of 6,238 studies were identified. After duplicate and unrelated articles were excluded, 18 publications were considered for this review. Sixteen studies concluded empathy interventions were effective, five indicated the need for further research, and two implicated a need for standardization in empathy-evaluation tools. Conclusion: This review endorses the effectiveness of educational interventions and supports their implementation to promote empathy in undergraduate nursing students. Background and Purpose: Nursing education lacks an easily accessible, valid, and reliable short instrument to support researchers and instructors in quickly assessing student anxiety. The purpose of this research was to respond to this need by assessing the reliability and validity of a short-form anxiety instrument adapted from psychology which could measure state and trait anxiety. Methods: Using a one-group, repeated measures design, 51 sophomore level undergraduate nursing students had their state and trait anxiety levels measured at three time points over the course of a semester. Results: Results showed that the anxiety instrument was valid and reliable for use in nursing education with coefficient α ranging from.65 to.88. Conclusion: Future nurse researchers and educators should consider using the short-form anxiety instrument when a quick differentiation is needed to measure state and trait anxiety. Purpose : This study interpreted journaled experiences of registered nurses (RNs) who were working at the bedside early in the pandemic as they were simultaneously enrolled in a baccalaureate (RN-BSN) completion program. Design: This qualitative interpretive descriptive study used purposive sampling. Methods: Eighteen students participated in the journal assignment. Fifteen students consented to participate in journal analyses. Journals were de-identified and a code book was used to document the entirety of journal reflections to identify meaningful text, and, ultimately, assert thematic codes. Thorne's interpretive description guided analysis. Researchers coded four journals together to obtain trustworthiness and rigor. Each doctorally prepared researcher independently coded a subset of the remaining journals. Emerging significant statements and subthemes were discussed and verified as a team. Results : Researchers identified the essence of pandemic footprints as the following themes emerged: Physical Threats to Safety, Emotional Threats to Safety, Workplace Culture, Healing Energies, and Professional Identity. Conclusions : Compared to previously published research conducted at later points of the pandemic this study is unique. Study data captured nurses' expressed voices through journaling at the brink (March 2020) of what became a global reality. Results illuminated dichotomies that existed then, particularly in response to their own and others' safety and security, leaving profound imprints on their identities extending beyond care environments. AIM The aim of this study was to examine the effects of mentoring programs on undergraduate nursing students’ mental health. BACKGROUND The study of nursing has been cited as stressful, with negative effects on academic and physical wellbeing and mental health in nursing students. METHOD An integrative review of the literature using the method of Whittemore and Knafl was performed on mentoring programs designed to mitigate student stress. Electronic databases searched included CINAHL, Medline, PubMed, Embase, ERIC, and Scopus. RESULTS The eight studies included in this review suggest that mentoring has positive impacts on nursing students’ mental health, reducing stress and anxiety and enhancing well-being and sense of belonging. CONCLUSION Mentoring programs have positive effects on mental health outcomes in undergraduate nursing students. Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic face-to-face activities were suspended, boosting the delivery of online teaching. As students returned to campuses, the delivery of active learning teaching methods followed a blended learning style. The flipped classroom, which is a student-centred approach, appears to be an effective teaching method, generating improved learning outcomes. No systematic review has so far explored students' experiences of this teaching method – a knowledge gap that this review aims to address. Methods: Studies published between 2012 and 2023 were identified from seven databases. The JBI critical appraisal tool was adopted to select high-quality studies and add credibility. Following extraction of qualitative data, meta-aggregation was used to identify synthesised findings. Results: The findings were aggregated into seven categories. Based on meaning similarity, three synthesised findings were identified to answer the research question on how nursing students experience the flipped classroom method. Conclusion: Several factors affect the student experience. Although variables are interrelated and complex to analyse, this approach is a valuable teaching method, positively experienced by students with the potential to improve engagement and learning outcomes. Background: Basic life support (BLS) is a mandatory skill for nurses. The confidence of the BLS provider should be enhanced by regular training. Traditionally, BLS training has used low-fidelity manikins, but more recent studies have suggested the use of high-fidelity manikins and alternative levels of simulation such as virtual reality. Methods: A quasi-experimental study including 125 nursing students. Data on confidence levels in various elements of BLS were collected using pre-validated questionnaires and analysed using SPSSv23. Results: The study revealed that high-fidelity simulation had a significant impact on the BLS learner's confidence levels. Conclusion: The study identified the importance of high-fidelity simulation in BLS training in preparing students for clinical practice. This highlights the need for further exploration of simulation technologies, such as virtual reality, to enable students to gain the knowledge, skills, confidence and competence required to enable safe and effective practice. Background: Artificial intelligence is a growing phenomenon that will soon facilitate wide-scale changes in many professions, and is expected to play an important role in the field of medical education. This study explored the realistic feelings and experiences of nursing undergraduates participating in different stages of artificial intelligence + project task driven learning, and provide a basis for artificial intelligence participation in nursing teaching. Methods: We conducted face-to-face semi-structured interviews with nursing undergraduates participating in Nursing Research Course which adopts artificial intelligence + project task driven learning from a medical university in Ningxia from September to November 2023, to understand their experience of using artificial intelligence for learning and the emotional changes at different stages. The interview guide included items about their personal experience and feelings of completing project tasks through dialogue with artificial intelligence, and suggestions for course content. Thematic analysis was used to analyze interview data. This study followed the COREQ checklist. Results: According to the interview data, three themes were summarized. Undergraduate nursing students have different experiences in participating in artificial intelligence + project task driven learning at different stages, mainly manifested as diverse emotional experiences under initial knowledge deficiency, the individual growth supported by external forces during the adaptation period, and the expectations and suggestions after the birth of the results in the end period. Conclusions: Nursing undergraduates can actively adapt to the integration of artificial intelligence into nursing teaching, dynamically observe students' learning experience, strengthen positive guidance, and provide support for personalized teaching models, better leveraging the advantages of artificial intelligence participation in teaching. Introduction: Clinical competence is a pre-requisite for every student nurse to showcase their proficiency in providing quality nursing care. Effective clinical experience during the study period plays a pivotal role in developing clinical competence among nursing students. Hence, the purpose of the study was to find the effectiveness of high fidelity simulation (HFS) on clinical competence among nursing students. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to determine the impact of HFS on level of clinical competence among nursing students, to find the association between selected demographic characteristics of nursing students with their level of clinical competence and also, to find the association between academic performances of nursing students with their level of competence. Method: The current study employed a quasi-experimental study design. Sixty-five nursing students from second year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program were selected using consecutive sampling technique. The data was collected using demographic data form, objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) grade performa, and academic score sheet. SPSS version 24 was used to analyze data. Results: The study revealed a significant impact of HFS on clinical competence of nursing students. Majority (52.3%) of the nursing students obtained high level clinical competence following the HFS. The findings showed a significant association between gender and medium of instruction with the level of clinical competence of nursing students. Further, there was a significant correlation between academic performance and level of clinical competence of the nursing students. Conclusion: HFS served as a useful pedagogical approach in fulfilling the clinical learning outcomes. It further facilitated readiness of nursing students in second year BSN in terms of developing competence and confidence for clinical placement at the hospital for the third year of their study. AIM The purpose of this review is to synthesize what is known about voluntary attrition from baccalaureate nursing education. BACKGROUND Understanding the reasons behind elective, voluntary attrition from nursing programs can help maximize resources and graduate more nurses into the workforce. METHOD An integrative review of the literature was conducted using the search strategy outlined by Whittemore and Knafl. The validated Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool was used to assess the quality of the studies found in the search. RESULTS Ten studies met review criteria. Studies showed that academic and emotional underpreparedness, economic challenges, feelings of isolation, differences between perceptions of nursing and the realities of professional practice, and incongruence with learning objectives in clinical settings led to dissatisfaction. CONCLUSION It is important to educate the public about nursing as a rigorous college major. AIM The aim of the study was to establish reliability and validity of the Competency Assessment in Simulation of Electronic Health Records (CASE) tool. BACKGROUND Effective teaching and learning practices, including valid and reliable assessment of students' electronic health record (EHR) competency, contribute to safe, high-quality, efficient nursing care. METHOD The study used a mixed-methods design to test reliability and validity of the CASE tool. RESULTS A nationally representative sample of faculty from universities representing 27 states provided scores for videos using the CASE tool. Forty-seven participants completed the first scoring survey; 22 of the 47 participants (47%) completed the second-round scoring. Intraclass correlation for the final score between the first and second responses shows the consistency of test-retest reliability (ICC = .78, p < .001). AIMThis study analyzed psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) students' reflections following a virtual simulated encounter with a patient who identified as transgender or gender expansive (TGE). BACKGROUND To reduce mental health disparities, PMHNP students must be prepared to deliver affirming care. Engaging in and reflecting on simulated encounters with standardized patients can improve PMHNP students' affirming care competency. METHOD A thematic analysis process was used to analyze student reflections during simulation debriefings. RESULTS Five themes emerged: application of affirming care principles, recognizing minority stressors, treating all patients the same, desire to learn more, and valuing authentic practice. CONCLUSION PMHNP students' reflections on the experience of providing care to a standardized patient who identified as TGE support the use of virtual simulations to prepare future providers to deliver affirming, person-centered care. Objective: To assess nursing students' experiences of using photovoice as a pedagogical approach to active learning in the community. Methods: A descriptive design with a cross‐sectional mixed‐method questionnaire was used with 108 students following an educational activity, in which their communities were photographed and the impact of the pandemic on vulnerable populations was reflected. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: Seventy eight percent of the students felt that photovoice was an interesting and useful tool for nurses, 89% affirmed it helped stimulate reflection on social and health inequities in times of pandemic, 82% described that it developed many emotions and feelings and 86% would like to disseminate their photographs directly to stakeholders, citizens, and politicians. Three themes were identified in the data: "stimulate critical reflection", "develop emotional skills", and "encourage action". Conclusions: Photovoice is a successful active learning pedagogical approach that engages nursing students to develop critical awareness while connecting with their communities, with the real world. It fosters students' sensitivity and motivation and encourages them to take action. Teachers need to introduce new scaffolds for active learning, such as photovoice, to provide innovative academic support that nurtures and develops the next generation of nurses appropriately. Background: Nurses have a key role in the recognition, reporting, and channelization of child abuse and neglect. Nurses should have sufficient knowledge about the presentation of child abuse and neglect. They also need to understand their role in reporting any instance where they detect cases of abuse and neglect. Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of a structured Child Neglect and Abuse Educational Program (CNaA‐EP) on the level of knowledge and awareness of nursing students about child neglect and abuse. Methods: This study conducted with nursing students used a pretest−post‐test quasi‐experimental design. The third‐year nursing students were divided into two groups: experimental (n = 25) and control groups (n = 30). The intervention group received CNaA‐EP. In both groups, pretests were performed using the "Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Scale," and "Child Abuse and Neglect Knowledge Test" The posttest was conducted 1 week after the 14‐week CNaA‐EP course was completed. Numbers, percentages, chi‐square test, t‐test, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Fisher's exact test were conducted using SPSS 22.00 software. Results: The education group's scores of child abuse/neglect awareness (t = −2.768 p < 0.05) and child abuse/neglect knowledge (t = −12.416 p < 0.01) were significantly higher than those of the control group. After the education program, a significant difference was found between the education and control groups on the core measures. Conclusion: A child neglect and abuse education program was an effective method of educating nursing students on knowledge and awareness of child abuse and neglect. For this reason, education programs should be planned and implemented to increase awareness about abuse and neglect problems that threaten children's health and development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding newly licensed registered nurses' perceived confidence in the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competency domains and corresponding knowledge, skills, and attitudes will help inform clinical leaders to develop successful transition-to-practice programs. Newly licensed registered nurses and prelicensure nursing students had confidence in their understanding of QSEN competencies as they began their transition to practice. Online learning and virtual practicums were effective for attaining QSEN competencies, offering support for using these interventions in academic settings and transition-to-practice programs.
