This study analyses the research output of four South Asia countries, namely Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal in S&T during 2001-10 on several parameters including its growth and country publications share in the world's research output, country publications share in various subjects in the national and global context, geographical distribution of publications, share of international collaborative publications at the national level as well as across subjects and characteristics of high productivity institutions and cited papers. The Scopus Citation Database has been used to retrieve the publication data for 10 years. Concludes that all the four South Asian countries needs to increase their output and bring about improvement in the quality of its research efforts. Objectives: Analyses the Indian publications output in glaucoma research during 2002-11 on several parameters including contribution & citation impact of top most productive countries, India's overall contribution, its growth pattern and citation impact, the share of international collaboration in India's overall research output, contribution of leading countries and identification of leading foreign collaborating partners, Indian contribution & impact of different types of glaucoma, glaucoma research by sub-fields and glaucoma research output by different population age groups, productivity and impact of leading Indian institutions and authors and pattern of communication of Indian output in most productive journals. Methods: The Scopus Citation Database has been used to retrieve the data for 10 years (2002-11) by searching the keywords "glaucoma or intraocular pressure" in combined Title, Abstract and Keywords field. Results: The Indian publications output in glaucoma research consisted of 1078 papers during 2002-11, which increased from 61 papers in 2002 to 207 papers in 2011, witnessing an annual average growth rate of 18.29%. The average citation impact per paper registered by Indian publications in glaucoma research was 3.03 during 2002-11, which decreased from 3.87 during 2002-06 to 2.49 during 2007-11. The international collaborative share of India in overall glaucoma research was 21.06% during 2002-11, which increased from 17.92% during 2002-06 to 23.09% during 2007-11. Conclusions: The glaucoma's irreversibility, lacking of glaucoma specialists and patients unawareness demand for an economic and effective glaucoma diagnosis system for screening. Objectives: This study analyzes the research output of India in Parkinson's disease (PD) during 2002-2011 on several parameters including the growth, rank, and global publications share, citation impact, share of international collaborative papers, contribution of major collaborative partner countries, contribution of various subject-fields, contribution and impact of most productive institutions and authors, media of communication, and characteristics of high-cited papers. Materials and Methods: The Scopus Citation Database has been used to retrieve the data for 10 years (2002-2011) by searching the keywords PD in the combined Title, Abstract, and Keywords fields. Results: Among the top 20 most productive countries in PD, India ranks 16th (with 458 papers) with a global publication share of 1.47% and an annual average publication growth rate of 26.05% during 2002-2011. Its global publication share has increased over the years, rising from 1.08% during 2002-2006 to 1.74% during 2007-2011. Its citation impact per paper was 5.77 during 2002-2011, which decreased from 8.40 during 2002-2006 to 4.64 during 2007-2011. Its international collaborative publications share was 26.18% during 2002-2011, which marginally increased from 26.17% during 2002-2006 to 26.18% during 2007-2011. Conclusion: It can be concluded that India's research performance in PD is quite good in the global context, despite the low prevalence of PD in the country. However, India needs to intensify its innovative strategies and international collaboration to strengthen its research output, human resources, funds, public-health awareness through local campaigns, and initiatives for the prevention and treatment of PD. Objectives: The study analyses the global publications output in cataract research during 2002-11 on several parameters including contribution & citation impact of top 15 most productive countries, different types of cataract research, research output by different population age groups, subject-wise break-up of research output, relatedness of various diseases to cataract research, research contribution and impact of top 15 institutions and authors and productivity of the top 20 journals. Methods: The Scopus Citation Database has been used to retrieve the data for 10 years (2002-11) by searching the keywords "cataract" in the combined Title, Abstract and Keywords field. Results: The world publication output in cataract research consisted of 27053 papers during 2002-11, which increased from 2025 papers in 2002 to 3080 papers in 2011, witnessing an annual average growth rate of 4.89%. The average citation impact per paper registered by world publications was 6.94 during 2002-11, which decreased from 7.82 during 2002-06 to 5.21 during 2007-11 Conclusions: Cataract is a significant and increasing global problem. The challenges are to prevent or delay cataract formation and cure that which occurs. Preventive interventions must be identified, perfected and delivered through research changes in government policy and legislation and modification of community and individual behavior. The study analyses India's performance in science and technology (S&T), using publications data and different quantitative and qualitative measures. Its focuses on India's global publication share, growth rate, citation quality, international collaborative publications share, its publication share and distribution in various broad and narrow subjects using 15 years data from the Scopus international multidisciplinary database. The study suggests the need to increase the pace of Indian scientific research and also improve its quality compared with other developed and developing countries. It also suggests the need for India to build up its scientific capacity, competence and knowledge base to help bridging the scientific and technological gap with leading countries. Background: The rapid advances in Information Technology have great impact on all sections of library including its operations as well as services. It has revolutionized the modes of accessing and disseminating information through Internet and World Wide Web. The PGIMER library is also not remaining untouched of its impact. It has transformed the library to modem Hi-Tech library with all its automated operations, e-services and online collections of e-resources. E-resources are very beneficial because of easy and quick access. Moreover, it can be accessed without any restriction to place and time. E-resources are very common in all research libraries but their maximum use and management is a matter of concern today. Objective: To study how e-resources are being managed in PGIMER library and what are the problems being faced for managing these resources? Photoperiod controls the initiation and development of roots on cuttings of Bryophyllum tubiflorum. Root initiation occurred when either the mother plant or the cuttings were exposed subsequently to SD conditions. Cuttings from LD plants exposed to LD did not root at all even after 4 weeks showing that short days are necessary for rooting of cuttings of this plant. The short day requirement can be substituted by IAA or IBA as roots were initiated in cuttings from LD plants when treated with the auxins under LD conditions. Analyzes the research activities of the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, as reflected in its 16 years (1992-2007) of 754 publications output covered in Scopus international multidisciplinary bibliographical database. Focuses on publication growth characteristics, format and media of communication, research impact and quality, patterns of research collaboration, broad and narrow areas of research focus and characteristics of its high productive authors and cited papers. Finds that GMCH stands at 9th rank in research output, 13th in average citation per paper and 12th in h-index among the top 15 medical colleges of the country. GMCH has recorded an annual publication growth rate of 19.79% and impact as measured by average citation per paper as 0.89. Out of its 27 departments, only 7 departments scored higher average impact factor than the average impact factor of papers of total medical college. Although 55.97% of its total papers received one or more citations, but only 14 of its papers received 16 and above citations. Only 2.3% of its total papers involve international collaboration.
