8. Communication Skills-Core of Employability Skills: Issues and Concerns

Abstract

This study focuses on the writing skills of third-year Bachelor of Commerce students of the colleges affiliated to Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University, Bhuj, India. The objectives of this study were to (a) study the syllabus relevance of the concerned subject at the final-year graduation level in the commerce discipline, (b) identify gaps in the existing undergraduate-level syllabi, (c) assess the communicative abilities of students, (d) gather the opinion of the teachers on their students' writing performance, and (e) suggest some remedial measures to improve students' language proficiency. Data was collected via questionnaire and opinionnaire. The study found the syllabus does not provide any scope for the development of practical, soft presentation skills. The study confirms that the syllabus does not provide any scope for developing writing skills of the learners; rather, it demands and evaluates memory skills and reproductive abilities. There also seems to be a vast gap between expected and achieved levels of efficiency. This study points out the certain lacunae in the current educational communication, which emphasizes theoretical acquisition of knowledge and fails to provide successful guidance for the development and expansion of human capabilities, as well as personal development.

Abstract

Introduction Cornu cutaneum is a nodule of dense keratin, resembling the horn of animals, an uncommon clinical condition predominantly seen in elderly men, and even rare to be seen on the pinna. Case Report A 70 year old man, presented with a horn like swelling on the left pinna for 2 years. The lesion was excised and histopathological examination did not show any underlying or associated conditions. Discussion The cause of worry here is not the disfigurement, but the probability of underlying premalignant or malignant condition. Exposure to sunlight is considered as the etiology. Ours being a tropical country where exposure to sunlight could not be avoided, a high clinical vigil and early intervention is recommended to reduce the mortality and morbidity from the spectrum of diseases resembling this condition.

Abstract

Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline that promotes mental and physical well-being. It's become popular due to the stress of modern life. There are many ways to learn yoga, including studios, private instructors, and online resources. Many students of yoga struggle to identify their own mistakes when learning on their own. This article proposes a new approach for the effective identification and classification of different yoga poses using deep learning algorithms. The Media-pipe library is used to extract user-relevant features from 85 videos featuring 15 yoga practitioners doing 6 different poses. In the study, results from many deep learning models are compared, both with and without extracting features. Several different learning models achieved their best performance when fed skeletonized pictures to a neural network for training. Results from several models are compared in order to demonstrate the beneficial effect of skeletonization. With a validation accuracy of 99.9% on non-skeletonized images, Mobile-Net with CNN outperforms CNN, LSTM and SVM by a wide margin. Skeletonized images are used by the proposed model MobileNet, which achieves an accuracy result of 99.9%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Banking is one of the most important ingredients in economic development, because of banks have direct contact with the public as well as the countries economic affairs. Thus, banking institutions are considered as a most influential pillars of Indian economy and interreference of banking sector among the public become digitalized and now the digital banking system has been covered almost entire economy in the state. In this context, study has been analyzed the effect of digital banking acceptance on digital banking usage among elder banking customers, because of previous references indicates that elder people were far away from digitalization due to lack of knowledge, awareness, negative attitude created by the lack of knowledge etc. meantime many reviews found that elder people are more eager to use the technology. Here, in this context study has been analyzed the factors which are leads to the digital banking acceptance among the elder banking customers. Study has also analyzed the mediator (Informal Joint Family Network) effect between Digital Banking Acceptance (DBA) and Digital Banking Usage (DBU).

Abstract

Introduction: Refractive errors cannot be prevented, but it is important to detect them early to improve the quality of life and prevention of blindness. Refractive errors screening in children during COVID pandemic was difficult task as they were high-risk group. Increased near activity due to online classes and smart devices usage may increase the uncorrected refractive errors. The study emphasizes on the refractive errors screening during COVID pandemic. Aim: To study the clinical profile of refractive errors of the children aged 5-15 years in a tertiary care hospital in COVID pandemic in association with screen time, outdoor activity, type of gadget, amblyopia and educational status of mother. Materials and methods:This was a hospital based prospective analytical study conducted in children 5-15 yrs attending the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department of ESIC Medical College and Hospital from May 2021 to October 2021.Children were screened for refractive errors and compared with the refractive errors data of different children of same age referred from Paediatric Outpatient Department and who attended to Ophthalmology Outpatient Department for regular eye checkup in pre-pandemic time. Unaided visual acuity of all children were measured with the help of Snellen's chart. Children with refractive errors underwent Cycloplegic Retinoscopy followed by post-mydriatic test. Screen time and outdoor activity duration were recorded. Interpretation and analysis of obtained results was carried out using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22.0 for descriptive statistics. Non-parametric tests like Pearson Chi-square test were used to express the qualitative data. Data with p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 790 children were screened out of which 358 (45.3%) presented with refractive error when compared with the pre pandemic prevalence 276 (34.9%) out of 790 children screened, presented with the refractive error. A total of 118 (33%) of the children presented with increased blink rate associated with increased screen time and dry eye. Rate of progression of more than 1D was observed in 44 (12.29%) of which Myopia 28 (7.8%) Astigmatism 10 (2.7%) and hypermetropia 6 (1.6%) in 6 months. A total of 286 (79.8%) children presented with myopia and 24 (6.7%) presented with hypermetropia, 48 (13.4%) presented with astigmatism. A total of 258 (72.06%) presented with screen time for 4-7 hrs, and 32 (8.9%) children presented with amblyopia. Conclusion: Refractive errors increased due to smart classes in schools or use of laptops, television viewing, computers or mobiles. Abstract

Background: E1A binding protein (p300) and its paralog CREB binding protein (CBP or CREBBP) are ubiquitously expressed acetyl transferases (HAT) that also act as co-activators for number of transcription factors including HIF1a, BRCA-1, p53, c-Myc and androgen receptor (AR). Both CBP and p300 possess bromodomain (BRD) and a lysine acetyltransferase (KAT) domain. These two closely related epigenetic modulators are known to play an oncogenic role in a variety of cancers. Functional synthetic lethal screens have identified preferential killing in CBP-deficient and/or MYC-dependent hematological cancer cells by suppression of the paralogue p300. CBP/p300 BRD inhibitor could also prevent AR and ER signaling, thereby potentially inhibiting growth of AR and ER -dependent cancer cells. Thus, targeting CBP/p300 represents an attractive approach for developing personalized cancer therapies. Experimental Results: Multiple potent and selective CBP/p300 BRD inhibitors that are structurally unrelated to known inhibitors were identified by iterative medicinal chemistry and SAR based approaches. The lead compound AU-18069 was optimized towards attaining good potency, selectivity, physicochemical properties and DMPK profile. AU-18069 potently inhibited proliferation of a wide range of cell lines derived from prostate cancer, breast cancer and CBP mutant/MYC-dependent hematological cancers. The lead compound demonstrated good PK profile in rodents as well as in dogs. Excellent anti-tumor efficacy was achieved in leukemia and lymphoma xenograft models at well-tolerated doses. Significant downregulation of c-Myc was observed in a single dose PK-PD study. Conclusion: Lead candidate AU-18069 demonstrated that selective CBP/p300 bromodomain inhibitors are efficacious in models of hematologic malignancies and solid cancers in vitro and in vivo. Further evaluation of efficacy in other xenograft models, as a single agent as well as in combination with other agents is planned. Long term toxicological and safety pharmacology evaluation in different species and other IND enabling studies are in progress to support progression of this compound to clinical trials. Abstract

In this present work, waste engine oil was explored as a precursor for the synthesis of carbon dots (CDs) by hydrothermal route for the first time. The obtained CDs showed excellent water solubility, photostability, bright blue emission under UV light (wavelength 365 nm), pH stability, high quantum yield, and greater biocompatibility. It was thoroughly studied by vital characterization techniques such as HR-TEM, UV–Visible spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, PSA, Fluorescence spectroscopy with lifetime analysis. The fluorescence of synthesized CDs was quenched by the addition of Fe3+ as it showed excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+. The sensing probe showed a good linear response (R2 = 0.9986) with a limit of detection 0.055 μM in the linear range of 0.6–3.3 μM. Due to excellent fluorescence properties of CDs, it have been applied as fluorescent ink for information storage. In addition, CDs coated polymer matrix was made and used for bead-based detection of Fe3+. Finally, the presented system could be considered as an efficient probe for Fe3+ detection and paved a way for efficient utilization of waste into value-added products.
