Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to develop a simple, fast and efficient clinical diagnostic model, composed of exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) indicators, of the exercise capacity of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) by comparing the effectiveness of different classifiers. Methods and results Eighty patients with CHF (aged 60 ± 11 years; 78% male) were prospectively enrolled in this study. All patients underwent both cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and ESE and were divided into two groups according to the VE/VCO2 slope: 30 patients with VE/VCO2 slope ventilation classification (VC)1 (i.e., VE/VCO2 slope 0.05 for the above). Conclusions Compared with the LR, XGBT, CART and RF models, the LR model performed best at predicting the VE/VCO2 slope category of CHF patients. A score chart was created to predict VE/VCO2 slopes ≥ 30. ΔE, s′peak and sex are independent predictors of exercise capacity in CHF patients.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to identify the cyclical “on–off” flow of pulmonary microcirculation during inspiration and expiration by sidestream dark field imaging (SDF) technology in vivo and investigate the effects of volume status and driving pressure on cyclical “on–off” flow of microcirculation. Methods 24 ARDS-modeled rabbits were randomly divided into high-driving pressure group (HDP group) and low-driving pressure group (LDP group). Lung microcirculation measurements were performed using the SDF microscope at two timepoints (T1 CVP 2–4 mmHg, T2 CVP 8–10 mmHg). From T1 to T2, 10 ml/kg saline was infused to increase CVP. The cyclical “on–off” pulmonary microcirculation was quantitatively assessed by the change of microcirculation between expiration and inspiration. Results Proportion of perfused vessels (PPV), microvascular flow index (MFI), perfused vessel density (PVD), and total vessel density (TVD) at expiration were significantly higher than inspiration in the HDP group. The HDP group has a higher ΔPPV and ΔPVD. After fluid loading, ΔPPV and ΔMFI decreased. TNF-α, IL-6, Ang-2, and vWF levels in the HDP group were higher. The HDP group also has a higher lung wet-weight/body weight ratio, lung wet-to-dry weight ratio, and more severe damage of pulmonary capillaries than the LDP group. Conclusions The difference in alveolar perfused microcirculation between inspiration and expiration defined as cyclical “on–off flow” can be detected. High driving pressure can enhance the cyclical “on–off” flow, and fluid loading can relieve it. High driving pressure can potentially cause injury to pulmonary capillaries due to the phenomenon of “on–off” flow, thereby exacerbating ARDS.

Abstract Incomplete tumor removal after microwave ablation (MWA), a widely used hyperthermia-based therapy, can result in tumor recurrence. Herein, attenuated Salmonella typhimurium VNP20009 is engineered to release interleukin-15&interleukin-15-receptor-alpha (IL-15&IL-15Rα) in response to mildly elevated temperature. Such 15&15R@VNP colonizes in tumors upon intravenous injection, and the expression of IL-15&IL-15Rα is triggered by MWA. Anti-tumor immune responses are elicited, efficiently suppressing tumor growth even after incomplete microwave ablation. We further design VNP20009 with thermal-responsive co-expression of both IL-15&IL-15Rα and soluble programmed cell death protein (sPD-1). Such sPD-1-15&15R@VNP can also reverse the functional suppression of immune cells driven by PD-1/PD-L1 axis, reinvigorating progenitor exhausted T cells, a critical subset of cytotoxic T lymphocytes responsive to immune checkpoint blockade. Such thermal-responsive engineered bacteria are thus a promising adjuvant therapy to potentiate tumor ablation therapies via effectively activating antitumor immunity.

This study introduced the laser additive manufacturing strategy of an Fe-Ga alloy with magnetostriction of comparable to single crystal. The Fe81Ga19 alloy is fabricated by in-situ laser remelting in the laser powder bed fusion. It is found that not only the direct precipitation of L60 nanoprecipitates is achieved by the laser remelting strategy, but also its distribution, density, and size are controlled by the optimized process. At the same time, remelting enhances the easy magnetization direction [Formula: see text] orientation of the Fe81Ga19 alloy. With this synergistic effect, the magnetostriction of the oriented polycrystalline Fe81Ga19 alloy reaches 208 ppm.

With the rapid development of industry, agriculture, and urbanization, various organic pollutants have accumulated in natural water, posing a potential threat to both the ecological environment and human beings, and removing organic pollutants from water is an urgent priority. Piezocatalytic techniques, with the advantages of green, simple operation, and high efficiency, are highly sought after in the degradation of environmental organic pollutants. Moreover, combining piezocatalytic techniques with advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), photocatalysis, or electrocatalysis can further effectively promote the efficient degradation of target pollutants. Therefore, a perspective is presented on the recent progress of piezocatalytic techniques for the degradation of various organic pollutants from aqueous solutions. The classification of various piezoelectric materials, as well as modification strategies for improving piezocatalysis, are first systematically summarized. Furthermore, the latest research on piezocatalysis and its combination with other technologies, such as AOPs, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis, in the degradation of environmental pollutants is discussed. The potential mechanisms of piezocatalysis are also analyzed in depth. Finally, the urgent challenges and future opportunities for piezocatalytic techniques in the degradation of organic pollutants are provided.

Parkinson disease (PD) is defined by the loss of dopamine (DA). Changes in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), particularly in local field potential (LFP), can be attributed to deficits in DA and DA receptor expression levels. PPN is a heterogeneous nucleus consisting of cholinergic, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABAergic), and glutamatergic neurons. However, it is unclear whether low levels of DA receptors affect the activity of different PPN neuron types. We record the neuronal activity of PPN by administering the selective dopamine D1 and D2 receptor antagonists, SCH23390 and Raclopride, respectively. This study discover that the firing rates of glutamatergic neurons could be normalized, and their firing patterns were more consistent in lesioned rats treated with raclopride. Raclopride administration could correct the increased coherence and phase locking between glutamatergic spikes and beta-band oscillatory activity in lesioned rats. Cooling water systems (CWSs) are extensively utilized in various industries to eliminate the excess heat and converse energy. Studies on CWSs mainly concentrated on finding the optimal cooler network structure. In addition, some works also considered the optimal design under varied operation conditions. However, in these works, once the optimal design of the cooler's network is determined, its arrangement remains fixed and cannot be adapted to accommodate diverse operating conditions. In this work, a flexible topology network concept is proposed to make the adjustment of network structure possible under different operation conditions. The CWS with integrated air cooler and flexible topology network has better overall performance, represented by a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model that require advanced tools such as GAMS software. Case studies revealed that the proposed methodology can realize better energy-saving performance, and improve the economic performance under varied operation conditions. The impact of critical flexible nodes on system configuration and economy is achieved by sensitivity analysis.

Abstract In August 2022, unprecedented and long-lasting extreme heatwaves attacked the Northern Hemisphere, with simultaneous record-breaking surface air temperature (SAT) in Eastern Europe (EE), Southern China (SC), and Western North America (WNA). However, the underlying physical mechanisms of these concurrent heatwaves, and the extent to which they are driven by anthropogenic forcing versus internal variability remain unclear. Our analysis using the HadGEM3-A-N216 large ensemble attribution model reveals that anthropogenic forcing is responsible for approximately 50% of the heatwaves in EE and SC, and over 80% in WNA. Furthermore, an internally-generated circumglobal atmospheric wave train is identified as a key circulation factor facilitating these simultaneous heatwaves. Observations and numerical simulations indicate that extreme warm sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Barents Sea, along with extreme cold SST anomalies in the tropical central Pacific, are critical in the formation and maintenance of this atmospheric teleconnection wave train. Under future high-emission scenarios, the influence of the internally-generated atmospheric teleconnection on concurrent heatwaves may be enhanced, particularly in WNA.

Abstract Cuproptosis is an emerging mode of programmed cell death for tumor suppression but sometimes gets resisted by tumor cells resist under specific mechanisms. Inhibiting copper transporter ATPase (ATP7A) was found to disrupt copper ion homeostasis, thereby enhancing the effect of cuproptosis and eventually inhibiting tumor invasion and metastasis. In this study, we develop a multifunctional nanoplatfrom based on Cu9S8 (CAPSH), designed to enhance cuproptosis in tumor cells by specifically targeting ATP7A interference, while combining thermodynamic therapy with immune effects. The release of copper ions from CAPSH and the copper homeostasis interference by siRNA cooperatively increases the concentration of copper ions in tumor cells, which induces effectively cuproptosis and activates immune responses for suppressing development and metastasis of tumor. This nanoplatform simultaneously regulates cuproptosis from both principles of onset and development, facilitating the application of cuproptosis in tumor therapy.

Abstract Objective This study aims to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in HIV-positive patients diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) undergoing total hip replacement (THR). Methods We retrospectively included 80 HIV-positive patients diagnosed with ONFH who underwent THR between 2011 and 2022. Forty patients treated before August 2019 constituted the control group, receiving standard antiviral regimens and traditional perioperative management pathways. The remaining 40 patients, treated after August 2019, formed the study group, which followed the ERAS protocol. This protocol emphasized the use of more effective antiviral medications, rapid viral load reduction, immune enhancement, improved nutritional status, control of co-infections, prophylactic antibiotics, and anti-osteoporosis measures. We recorded patients' general status and imaging examinations before surgery, as well as detailed perioperative management strategies, antiviral regimens, durations, and immunological indicators for both groups. Targeted and standardized treatment measures were applied to the ERAS group, allowing for a comparison of the efficacy of perioperative management between the two patient groups. Results Preoperative nutritional and immune indicators were lower in the control group than in the study group, while inflammatory markers were higher. Postoperatively, immune, nutritional, and inflammatory indicators were significantly better in the ERAS group compared to the control group. Following antiviral treatment, the viral load was predominantly undetectable in the ERAS group (target not detected, TND). Abstract Quantum clock synchronization (QCS) can measure out the high-precision clock difference among distant users, which breaks through the standard quantum limit by employing the properties of quantum entanglement. Currently, the wavelength division multiplexed QCS network has been demonstrated with a spontaneous parametric down-conversion entangled photon source. In this paper, we propose a more efficient QCS network scheme with the wavelength multicasting entangled photon source, which can decrease at least 25% of wavelength channel consumption under the identical network scale. Afterwards, a four node QCS network is demonstrated, where the wavelength multicasting entangled photon source is utilized with dual-pumped four-wave mixing silicon chip. The experimental results show that the measured time deviation is 3.4 ps with an average time of 640 s via the multiple fiber links of more than 10 km.

Abstract Multi-variate gridded meteorological data with high spatial resolution play a key role in studies related to climate change. This study constructed a 4 km daily gridded meteorological dataset for mainland of China (China Daily Meteorological Dataset; CDMet) from 2000 to 2020. The dataset includes nine meteorological variables: 2-meter air temperature (maximum, minimum, and mean temperatures), total precipitation, skin temperature, 10-meter wind speed, relative humidity, surface pressure, and sunshine duration. CDMet was generated using an adaptive interpolation scheme, which employed thin-plate spline and random forest methods to construct the interpolation model. Six combinations of location and terrain information were designed and used as covariates in the model together with reanalysis data. Validation with independent observation stations and existing datasets showed that CDMet has acceptable accuracy, reasonable seasonal variability, and precise spatial distribution, and its accuracy is comparable to that of other datasets. Due to its comprehensive variables and high resolution, CDMet can be used as input data for hydrological, agricultural, and ecological models.

Abstract Tumor immune modulation can be achieved using intratumoral injection of different immunomodulators during different phases of the cancer-immunity cycle. Intratumoral infusion catheters have been used in brain tumors, but these are not suitable outside the brain, where breathing motion results in catheter migration. Here, we use microstereolithography to manufacture a barbed sidehole catheter, modeled after the barbs in a bee stinger, where the barbs maintain the catheter position in the tumor, and sideholes within the barbs infuse drug into tumor tissue. In pig liver, we demonstrated 183-fold higher local drug concentration using the barbed sidehole catheter, compared to intravenous injection of water-soluble drug. High resistance sideholes and pulsatile injection both generate higher pressure in the catheter, which overcomes the tissue pressure, resulting in more drug delivery into tumor. A physical model of intratumoral infusion catheters accurately predicts the observed drug delivery results. Our catheter design is retained in the liver (and does not migrate out with breathing motion), and it preferentially infuses the drug into tumor tissue (not intratumoral vessels).

Abstract Comprehensive and non-invasive preoperative molecular diagnosis is important for prognostic and therapy decision-making in adult-type diffuse gliomas. We employed a deep learning method for automatic segmentation of brain gliomas directly from conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the tumor core and peritumoral edema regions based on available glioma MRI data provided in the BraTS2021. Three-dimensional volumes of interest were segmented from 424 cases of glioma imaging data retrospectively obtained from two medical centers using the segmentation method and radiomic features were extracted. We developed a subtype prediction model based on extracted radiomic features and analyzed significance and correlations between glioma morphological characteristics and pathological features using data from patients with adult-type diffuse glioma. The automated segmentation achieved mean Dice scores of 0.884 and 0.889 for the tumor core and whole tumor, respectively. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the prediction of adult-type diffuse gliomas subtypes was 0.945. “Glioblastoma, IDH-wildtype”, “Astrocytoma, IDH-mutant”, and “Oligodendroglioma, IDH-mutant, 1p/19q-coded” showed AUCs of 0.96, 0.914, and 0.961, respectively, for subtype prediction. Glioma morphological characteristics, molecular and pathological levels, and clinical data showed significant differences and correlations. An automatic segmentation model for gliomas based on 3D U-Nets was developed, and the prediction model for gliomas built using the parameters obtained from the automatic segmentation model showed high overall performance.

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the major subtype of lung cancer. The poor prognosis of LUAD patients is attributed primarily to metastasis. ADAMTS16 is a crucial member of the ADAMTS family and is involved in tumor progression. However, its role and regulatory mechanism in LUAD remain unexplored. In this study, ADAMTS16 was identified as a crucial oncogene and survival predictor in LUAD via analyses of public datasets. Clinical specimens and tissue microarrays confirmed the differential expression and prognostic value of ADAMTS16 in LUAD patients. Transcriptome data and in vitro experiments demonstrated that ADAMTS16 was positively associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the migration abilities of LUAD cells. Knockdown of ADAMTS16 attenuated lung and pleural metastasis in an animal model. Mechanistically, the results of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and western blot (WB) suggested that ADAMTS16 activated the TGF-β signaling pathway by facilitating the conversion of LAP-TGF-β1 to active TGF-β1. Co-Immunoprecipitation (co-IP) indicated an interaction between ADAMTS16 and LAP-TGF-β1. Inhibition of ADAMTS16 impaired EMT and aggressiveness of LUAD cells, while treatment with recombinant TGF-β1 reversed this inhibition. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and dual-luciferase reporter assays indicated that SOX4 acted as a transcriptional activator of ADAMTS16 and that TGF-β1 regulated the expression of ADAMTS16 by increasing the binding of SOX4 to the promoter of ADAMTS16. Suppressing the TGF-β signaling pathway inhibited ADAMTS16 expression, EMT, and lung metastasis, whereas overexpressing SOX4 reversed this inhibition. Therefore, ADAMTS16 forms a positive feedback loop with the TGF-β1/SOX4 axis to regulate EMT and metastasis, and disruption of this feedback loop inhibits tumor progression. These findings underscore the potential of ADAMTS16 as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in LUAD and offer novel insight into the mechanism of EMT and metastasis.

Abstract Background Short term results of the change of center of rotation (COR) after Bryan cervical disc replacement (CDR) have been reported. However, there is a lack of long-term studies focusing on the COR and its influences on facet joint degeneration. Objective To evaluate the long-term clinical and radiographic results of Bryan CDR, and to explore the influence of deviated COR on facet joint degeneration at index level. Methods It is a retrospective follow up study conducted in China. Eighty-three consecutive patients who received single-level Bryan CDR were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical evaluation included Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, Neck Disability Index (NDI), and Odom’s scale. Radiographic evaluation underwent before surgery, at early follow-up (3 months) and last follow-up (10 years). The radiographic parameters included range of motion (ROM), location of COR presented by the coordinates (COR-x, COR-y), and facet joint degeneration score. Correlation analysis was conducted between changes of COR and facet joint degeneration score. Results Fifty-nine patients were included, with an average age of 44.6 ± 7.4 years. The mean follow-up time was 135.7 ± 12.4 (120–155) months. JOA score, NDI and Odom’s scale showed significant improvements at last follow-up. The ROM was well preserved through follow-up. 33 patients (55.9%) showed deterioration of facet joint degeneration at index level. Abstract Efficient harnessing of solar energy presents a significant challenge in environmental cleanup efforts. This study develops a highly effective carbon quantum dots-modified hollow core-shell TiO2-LaFeO3 heterojunction photocatalyst (CDs-TLFO). Structural analysis confirmed that nanosheets are loaded with CQDs, forming a hollow core-shell structure with intimate interconnection. Photocatalytic experiments reveal that CDs-TLFO degrads tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) 2.02 times faster than TLFO alone, and significantly outperformes h-TiO2 and LaFeO3 (11.28 and 2.78 times, respectively). This enhancement is attributed to CQDs acting as electron acceptors with upconversion properties, enhancing the separation of e–-h+ pairs and boosting visible light absorption. Integration of CQDs onto the TLFO surface creates numerous active sites and enhances visible light absorption. SEM and TEM tests confirm that the catalyst has a hollow core-shell structure. ESR tests and radical trapping experiments indicate that the high degradation efficiency of the catalyst mainly owns to the synergistic effect of hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and superoxide radicals (·O2 −). The reusability and stability of the catalysts are investigated, potential TC degradation pathways are proposed as well as the photocatalytic reaction mechanism is revealed. This research introduces promising avenues for environmental cleanup and offers a straightforward, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly method for producing CDs-TLFO heterojunction materials with superior photocatalytic capabilities.

Abstract The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has significantly expanded the role of service robots in everyday life. This expansion necessitates the accurate recognition and prediction of human intentions to provide timely and appropriate services. However, existing methods often struggle to perform effectively in complex and unstructured environments. To address this challenge, we propose the Large language model and Knowledge graph based Intention Recognition Framework (LKIRF), which combines large language model (LLM) with knowledge graphs (KG) to enhance the intention recognition capabilities of service robots. Our approach constructs an offline KG from human motion and environmental data and builds an online reasoning graph through real-time interaction, utilizing LLM for interpretation. Experimental results indicate that compared to traditional methods, LKIRF not only improves prediction accuracy across various scenarios but also enhances the transparency and interpretability of the intention reasoning process.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility and accuracy of a robot-assisted technique in four-corner fusion compared with traditional freehand operation. Methods Twenty cadaver specimens were randomly assigned to the robot-assisted group and freehand groups. Three screws were placed percutaneously to fix the capitate-lunate joint, lunate-triquetrum joint, and triquetrum-hamate-capitate joint in each specimen by robot-assisted or freehand technique. The offset between the actual and planned screw positions was determined by merging the images of intraoperative and postoperative CT scans in the robot-assisted group. The centrality of the screw, time-consuming, drilling attempts, and radiation exposure were compared between the two groups. Results The mean offset between the actual and planned screw position was 1.09 (SD: 0.56) mm. The offset at the start point of the screw was significantly lower than that at the endpoint. There was no significant difference in the centrality of the screws, surgical time between the two groups. The number of drilling attempts and the radiation dose received by surgeons were significantly lower in the robot-assisted group. Conclusions Although there was no significant difference in screw centrality between the two groups, the slight offset between the actual and planned screw positions confirmed the feasibility of the robot-assisted technique in four-corner fusion. The robot-assisted technique has advantages in reducing the difficulty of surgery and protecting the surgeon from exposure to large doses of radiation.

Abstract Three-dimensional solar steam evaporators with efficient water purification performance have received increasing attention recently. Herein, elastic polymer covalent organic frameworks (PP-PEG) containing PEG chains with intriguing adaptability to guests are prepared by forming porphyrin rings. PP-PEG foams demonstrate full spectrum absorbance and excellent photothermal conversion properties. Through well-designed thermal management and optimization of the hydrophilicity and PEG chain length, we obtain a highly efficient solar evaporator with an evaporation rate of 4.89 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun in self-contained mode. The optimized solar evaporation rate is increased to 18.88 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun with a facile truncated cone reflector, exceeding all known solar steam evaporators. This innovative design holds immense promise for desalination and water purification owing to its simple preparation, high efficiency and durability.

The development and utilization of lunar resources are entering a critical stage. Immediate focus is needed on key technologies for in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) and lunar base construction. This paper comparatively analyzes the basic characteristics of lunar regolith samples returned from Chang’e-5 (CE-5), Apollo, and Luna missions, focusing on their physical, mechanical, mineral, chemical, and morphological parameters. Given the limited availability of lunar regolith, more than 50 lunar regolith simulants are summarized. The differences between lunar regolith and simulants concerning these parameters are discussed. To facilitate the construction of lunar bases, this article summarizes the advancements in research on construction materials derived from lunar regolith simulants. Based on statistical results, lunar regolith simulant-based composites are classified into 5 types by their strengthening and toughening mechanisms, and a comprehensive analysis of molding methods, preparation conditions, and mechanical properties is conducted. Furthermore, the potential lunar base construction forms are reviewed, and the adaptability of lunar regolith simulant-based composites and lunar base construction methods are proposed. The key demands of lunar bases constructed with lunar regolith-based composites are discussed, including energy demand, in-situ buildability, service performance, and structural availability. This progress contributes to providing essential material and methodological support for future lunar construction.

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is one of the most important global food crops. This crop exhibits excellent allelopathic potential against various weeds, but its allelopathic mechanism at the molecular level is unclear. Therefore, metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses were performed to explore the allelopathic effects, metabolic pathway, and associated genes for two major compounds with allelopathic activity, palmitic acid and linoleic acid. The sweet potato variety Ningshu 25 was employed in the current study. The results showed that palmitic acid and linoleic acid had strong allelopathic effects on seed germination, plant growth, antioxidant enzyme activity, and chlorophyll content of two weeds Digitaria sanguinalis and Bidens pilosa. The content of the two targeted metabolites was affected by different environmental conditions and was significantly increased under low temperature (15 °C). Five metabolic pathways involved in the two targeted metabolites of fatty acids were found: fatty acid biosynthesis, fatty acid elongation, fatty acid degradation, biosynthesis of cutin, suberine, and wax, and the linoleic acid metabolism pathway. The synthesis of palmitic acid is significantly enriched in the biosynthesis pathways of fatty acids, cutin, suberine, and wax, and the synthesis of linoleic acid is significantly enriched in the linoleic acid metabolism pathway. Under different environmental conditions, there were three key genes expressed—g4988, g11881, and g19673—located in the biosynthesis pathways of cutin, suberine, and wax; four key genes expressed—g31191, g60956, g49811, and g59542—located in the biosynthesis pathway of fatty acids; and six key expressed genes—g26575, g24787, g23517, g57649, g58562, and g4314—located in biosynthesis pathway of linoleic acid, respectively. Our study advances understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind allelopathic traits in sweet potato and provides a set of candidate genes for use in improving allelopathic potential in sweet potato germplasm resources.

Magnesium (Mg) and its alloys have similar densities and elastic moduli to natural bone, making them an excellent choice for orthopedic implants. However, Mg alloys are prone to electrochemical corrosion, which often leads to implant failure and hinders the further development of Mg alloys due to bacterial infection around the implant. This work aims to enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys, and provide theoretical guidance for solving the problem that Mg-based orthopedic implants are susceptible to bacterial infection and, thus, implant failure. In order to solve the corrosion problem, the Mg alloy AZ91D was used as the substrate, and a compact and uniform MgAlCu-layered double hydroxide (Mg(Cu)-LDH) was prepared on its surface using a hydrothermal method. The Mg(Cu)-LDH provides a barrier between the AZ91D and corrosive liquid, which effectively protects the Mg substrate from being corroded. The Mg(Cu)-LDH shows great cell viability for MC3T3-E1 cells. The Cu2+ and Mg2+ in the coating also endow the Mg(Cu)-LDH/AZ91D with antibacterial properties, showing strong antibacterial effects on both E. coli and S. aureus with antibacterial rates over 85%. Finally, in vivo results indicated that a LDH-coated implant had no systemic effects on the hearts, livers, spleens, lungs or kidneys. It was shown that 4 weeks after surgery the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume (BV/TV) of the LDH implant was 24%, which was 1.7 times that observed for AZ91D.

The importance of land–atmosphere feedbacks on regional precipitation changes has been recently noted. However, how land–atmosphere feedbacks shape daily precipitation distributions, particularly the tails of precipitation distributions associated with extreme events, remains unclear on a regional scale. Herein, using the latest land–atmosphere coupling experiments, this study reveals a consistent weakening effect of land–atmosphere feedbacks on the future increase in precipitation extremes over Australia, revealing the most pronounced reduction (56.8%) for the long-term (2080–2099) projection under the low emission (SSP1-2.6) scenario. This weakening effect holds true for shifts in the extreme tail of precipitation distribution, resulting in a reduced risk of precipitation extremes in a warming climate. Land‒atmosphere feedbacks offset 28%–60% of the occurrence risk for the 99th percentile of daily precipitation, with the largest reduction of 172% when precipitation exceeds the 99.7th percentile in the long-term projection under the high emission (SSP5-8.5) scenario. Considering less water replenishment, these feedbacks may reduce the risk of flooding but potentially expedite droughts, highlighting the role of land–atmosphere feedbacks in extreme event projection and regional climate adaptation.

Abstract The Arctic Oscillation (AO) has been observed to undergo distinct decadal structural fluctuations that significantly influence regional weather and climate. Understanding the drivers and mechanisms behind the AO’s spatial nonstationarity is critical for improving climate predictions related to the AO. We present evidence that the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) plays a pivotal role in modulating AO’s Pacific center in recent decades. The poleward amplified cooling associated with negative AMO enhances the north-south temperature gradient and results the strengthened westerly winds and stratospheric polar vortex (SPV) responses, which reflects more planetary waves from the North Pacific to the North Atlantic. This enhances the atmospheric coupling between these regions and leads to a more pronounced Pacific center within the AO pattern. Numerical simulations from ECHAM5 and 35 CMIP6 models further corroborate the essential role of the AMO. These findings advance our understanding of the mechanisms driving the variability of the AO pattern.

Abstract Separating the dam body, spillway, and other structures from the point cloud in the dam area is an important step in dam deformation monitoring. Manual segmentation is time consuming and inaccurate. This study proposes a point cloud segmentation neural network model based on normal vector optimization suitable for dam environment: (1) This model utilizes the voxel uniform sampling method of equal length cubes to solve the problem of uneven point cloud density caused by wide range and long-distance measurement during point cloud measurement in dam areas. (2) Designed block input and combined output modules in the model, achieving efficient input of large volume point cloud and eliminating the impact of interpolation points offset during seq2seq model decoding process. (3) In response to the diverse characteristics of point cloud normal vectors presented by vegetation, rock mass, and complex dam structures in the dam area, this paper proposes an adaptive radius plane fitting vector estimation method based on eigenvalue method to improve the accuracy of segmentation. The experiment on the prototype arch dam shows that the proposed normal estimation method improves the classification accuracy of PointNet + + from 96.26 to 98.27%. Compared with the other three normal estimation methods (2-jets, Hough CNN, iterative PCA), the overall accuracy is improved by 0.82%, 1.22%, and 0.22%, and the joint average intersection is improved by 0.0293, 0.0325, and 0.0104. The prototype arch dam experiment shows that our proposed method has a segmentation accuracy of 98.27%. Compared with 2-jets, Hough CNN, and iterative PCA, the overall accuracy has been improved by 0.82%, 1.22%, and 0.22%. This study provides a high-precision segmentation scheme for applications such as deformation detection of dam components based on point clouds.

Abstract Atherosclerosis (AS) poses a significant threat to human life and health. However, conventional antiatherogenic medications exhibit insufficient targeting precision and restricted therapeutic effectiveness. Moreover, during the progression of AS, macrophages undergo polarization toward the proinflammatory M1 phenotype and generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) to accelerate the occurrence of inflammatory storms, and ingest excess lipids to form foam cells by inhibiting cholesterol efflux. In our study, we developed a macrophage membrane-functionalized hollow mesoporous manganese dioxide nanomedicine (Col@HMnO2-MM). This nanomedicine has the ability to evade immune cell phagocytosis, enables prolonged circulation within the body, targets the inflammatory site of AS for effective drug release, and alleviates the inflammatory storm at the AS site by eliminating ROS. Furthermore, Col@HMnO2-MM has the ability to generate oxygen autonomously by breaking down surplus hydrogen peroxide generated at the inflammatory AS site, thereby reducing the hypoxic microenvironment of the plaque by downregulating hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-1α), which in turn enhances cholesterol efflux to inhibit foam cell formation. In an APOE−/− mouse model, Col@HMnO2-MM significantly reduced inflammatory factor levels, lipid storage, and plaque formation without significant long-term toxicity. In summary, this synergistic treatment significantly improved the effectiveness of nanomedicine and may offer a novel strategy for precise AS therapy.

Abstract (R)-2-Hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid ethyl ester ((R)-HPBE) is an essential chiral intermediate in the synthesis of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Its production involves the highly selective asymmetric reduction of ethyl 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyrate (OPBE), catalyzed by carbonyl reductase (CpCR), with efficient cofactor regeneration playing a crucial role. In this study, an in-situ coenzyme regeneration system was developed by coupling carbonyl reductase (CpCR) with glucose dehydrogenase (GDH), resulting in the construction of five recombinant strains capable of NADPH regeneration. Among these, the recombinant strain E. coli BL21-pETDuet-1-GDH-L-CpCR, where CpCR is fused to the C-terminus of GDH, demonstrated the highest catalytic activity. This strain exhibited an enzyme activity of 69.78 U/mg and achieved a conversion rate of 98.3%, with an enantiomeric excess (ee) of 99.9% during the conversion of 30 mM OPBE to (R)-HPBE. High-density fermentation further enhanced enzyme yield, achieving an enzyme activity of 1960 U/mL in the fermentation broth, which is 16.2 times higher than the volumetric activity obtained from shake flask fermentation. Additionally, the implementation of a substrate feeding strategy enabled continuous processing, allowing the strain to efficiently convert a final OPBE concentration of 920 mM, producing 912 mM of (R)-HPBE. These findings highlight the system’s improved catalytic efficiency, stability, and scalability, making it highly suitable for industrial-scale biocatalytic production.

Abstract Background Malnutrition can lead to an increased risk of blood transfusion in elderly patients. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a tool used to assess nutritional status, but its predictive value for blood transfusion in elderly patients undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is not well established. This study aimed to investigate the association between GNRI and the risk of perioperative blood transfusion in this population. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted on elderly patients aged 60 and above who underwent PLIF at Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital. Preoperative GNRI was calculated using height, weight, and serum albumin levels. The primary outcome was perioperative blood transfusion. Logistic regression analysis was performed, adjusting for potential confounders such as demographic characteristics, comorbidities, surgical factors, and laboratory tests. Results A total of 1,246 elderly patients were included, with 144 (11.6%) requiring blood transfusion. Soil tensile strength is a critical parameter governing the initiation and propagation of tensile cracking. This study proposes an eco-friendly approach to improve the tensile behavior and crack resistance of clayey soils. To validate the feasibility and efficacy of the proposed approach, direct tensile tests were employed to determine the tensile strength of the compacted soil with different W-OH treatment concentrations and water contents. Desiccation tests were also performed to evaluate the effectiveness of W-OH treatment in enhancing soil tensile cracking resistance. During this period, the effects of W-OH treatment concentration and water content on tensile properties, soil suction and microstructure were investigated. The tensile tests reveal that W-OH treatment has a significant impact on the tensile strength and failure mode of the soil, which not only effectively enhances the tensile strength and failure displacement, but also changes the brittle failure behavior into a more ductile quasi-brittle failure behavior. The suction measurements and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) tests show that W-OH treatment can slightly reduce soil suction by affecting skeleton structure and increasing macropores. Combined with the microstructural analysis, it becomes evident that the significant improvement in soil tensile behavior through W-OH treatment is mainly attributed to the W-OH gel's ability to provide additional binding force for bridging and encapsulating the soil particles. Moreover, desiccation tests demonstrate that W-OH treatment can significantly reduce or even inhibit the formation of soil tensile cracking. With the increase of W-OH treatment concentration, the surface crack ratio and total crack length are significantly reduced. This study enhances a fundamental understanding of eco-polymer impacts on soil mechanical properties and provides valuable insight into their potential application for improving soil crack resistance.

Abstract Background Infertility affects one in six couples worldwide, with advanced maternal age (AMA) posing unique challenges due to diminished ovarian reserve and reduced oocyte quality. Single vitrified-warmed blastocyst transfer (SVBT) has shown promise in assisted reproductive technology (ART), but success rates in AMA patients remain suboptimal. This study aimed to identify and refine predictive factors for live birth following SVBT in AMA patients, with the goal of enhancing clinical decision-making and enabling personalized treatment strategies. Methods This retrospective cohort study analyzed 1,168 SVBT cycles conducted between June 2016 and December 2022 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and Nanning Maternity and Child Health Hospital. Nineteen machine-learning models were applied to identify key predictive factors for live birth. Feature selection and 10-fold cross-validation were employed to validate the models. Results The most significant predictors of live birth included inner cell mass quality, trophectoderm quality, number of oocytes retrieved, endometrial thickness, and the presence of 8-cell blastomeres on day 3. The stacking model demonstrated the best predictive performance (AUC: 0.791), followed by Extra Trees (AUC: 0.784) and Random Forest (AUC: 0.768). These models outperformed traditional methods, achieving superior accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Conclusion Leveraging advanced machine-learning models and identifying critical predictive factors can improve the accuracy of live birth outcome predictions for AMA patients undergoing SVBT. These findings offer valuable insights for enhancing clinical decision-making and managing patient expectations. Further research is needed to validate these results in larger, multi-center cohorts and to explore additional factors, including fresh embryo transfers, to broaden the applicability of these models in clinical practice.

Abstract Compelling evidence has revealed a novel function of the STAT pathway in the pathophysiology of uveal melanoma (UM); however, its regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we analyzed the clinical prognostic value of STAT family genes in UM patients using bioinformatics approaches and found that high STAT6 expression is associated with poor prognosis. Furthermore, cellular experiments and a nude mouse model demonstrated that STAT6 promotes UM progression through the autophagy pathway both in vivo and in vitro. Next, RIP-PCR revealed that STAT6 protein binds to LINC01637 mRNA, which in turn regulates STAT6 expression to promote UM growth. Finally, molecular docking indicated that STAT6 is a target of Zoledronic Acid, which can delay UM tumorigenicity by inhibiting STAT6 expression. Taken together, our results indicate that the STAT6/LINC01637 axis promotes UM progression via autophagy and may serve as a potential therapeutic target for UM.

Abstract Background Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis (ISC) is a manifestation of idiopathic calcinosis cutis, and its etiology is still unknown. Case presentation We report a 36-year-old patient manifested multiple gradually increasing yellowish-white scrotal nodules with occasional itching and stinging in the past 6 years and was successfully cured via surgical excision. The laboratory test combined with pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of ISC. Like pathological calcinosis in other soft tissues, a large amount of collagen fiber deposition was observed around the calcification nodule, suggesting that abnormal collagen fiber deposition might be an important factor leading to idiopathic calcinosis in the scrotum. Moreover, koilocytes, which indicate human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, were also detected around calcified nodules, indicating the potential pathogenic role of HPV infection in ISC. Conclusions Here, we report that ISC shows abnormal excessive deposition of collagen fibers around calcified nodules, which may be a vital factor contributing to the disease. Furthermore, combined with the literature review, a new pathogenic mechanism of ISC is proposed, and the site specificity of scrotal calcinosis is explained, providing a basis for further exploration of the pathogenic mechanism of ISC.

This study employs a hierarchical component model to examine reuse intentions among experienced carsharing service users in South Korea, focusing on how various perceptions of benefits and risks impact their decisions. It also explores the influences of self-efficacy, gender, and service usage experience on these perceptions and reuse intentions. Findings highlight that male users are primarily driven by functional benefits such as accessibility and convenience, whereas female users are more responsive to hedonic benefits. Users with high self-efficacy prioritize economic benefits, whereas those with more usage experience prioritize functional benefits. Additionally, social risks significantly deter reuse intentions predominantly among male and less experienced users. By utilizing a hierarchical model, this study offers a deeper understanding of how each dimension of benefits and risks affect overall perceptions, facilitating tailored strategies for carsharing services. The insights contribute valuable theoretical and practical perspectives on the dynamics of carsharing service usage.

Tissue engineering technology has advanced rapidly in recent years, offering opportunities to construct biologically active tissues or organ substitutes to repair or even enhance the functions of diseased tissues and organs. Tissue-engineered scaffolds rebuild the extracellular microenvironment by mimicking the extracellular matrix. Fibrin-based scaffolds possess numerous advantages, including hemostasis, high biocompatibility, and good degradability. Fibrin scaffolds provide an initial matrix that facilitates cell migration, differentiation, proliferation, and adhesion, and also play a critical role in cell-matrix interactions. Fibrin scaffolds are now widely recognized as a key component in tissue engineering, where they can facilitate tissue and organ defect repair. This review introduces the properties of fibrin, including its composition, structure, and biology. In addition, the modification and cross-linking modes of fibrin are discussed, along with various forms commonly used in tissue engineering. We also describe the biofunctionalization of fibrin. This review provides a detailed overview of the use and applications of fibrin in skin, bone, and nervous tissues, and provides novel insights into future research directions for clinical treatment.

Abstract Background Tiarella polyphylla D. Don has been traditionally used to cure asthma and skin eruptions. However, the sequence and the structure of the mitogenome of T. polyphylla remained elusive, limiting the genomic and evolution analysis based on the mitogenome. Results Using a combination of Illumina and Nanopore sequencing reads, we de novo assembled the complete mitogenome of T. polyphylla. In addition to unveiling the major configuration of the T. polyphylla mitogenome was three circular chromosomes with lengths of 430,435 bp, 126,943 bp, and 55,269 bp, we revealed five (R01-R05) and one (R06) repetitive sequence could mediate the intra- and inter-chromosomal recombination, respectively. Furthermore, we identified 208 short and 25 long tandem segments, seven cp-derived mtDNAs, 106 segments of mtDNAs transferred to the nuclear genome, and 653 predicted RNA editing sites. Based on the sequence of the mitogenomes, we obtained the resolved phylogeny of the seven Saxifragales species. Conclusions These results presented the mitogenome features and expanded its potential applications in phylogenetics, species identification, and cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) in the future.

Abstract Brontispa longissima is a highly destructive pest that affects coconut and ornamental palm plants. It is widely distributed across Southeast and East Asia and the Pacific region, causing production losses of up to 50–70%. While control methods and ecological phenomena have been the primary focus of research, there is a significant lack of studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying these ecological phenomena. The absence of a reference genome has also hindered the development of new molecular-targeted control technologies. In this study, we conducted a karyotype analysis of B. longissima and assembled the first high-quality chromosome-level genome. The assembled genome is 582.24 Mb in size, with a scaffold N50 size of 63.81 Mb, consisting of 10 chromosomes and a GC content of 33.71%. The BUSCO assessment indicated a completeness estimate of 98.1%. A total of 23,051 protein-coding genes were predicted. Our study provides a valuable genomic resource for understanding the mechanisms of adaptive evolution and facilitates the development of new molecular-targeted control methods for B. longissima.

Abstract This work aims to explore the application of an improved convolutional neural network (CNN) combined with Internet of Things (IoT) technology in art design education and teaching. The development of IoT technology has created new opportunities for art design education, while deep learning and improved CNN models can provide more accurate and effective tools for image processing and analysis. In order to enhance the effectiveness of art design teaching and students’ creative expression, this work proposes an improved CNN model. In model construction, it increases the number of convolutional layers and neurons, and incorporates the batch normalization layer and dropout layer to enhance feature extraction capabilities and reduce overfitting. Besides, this work creates an experimental environment using IoT technology, capturing art image samples and environmental data using cameras, sensors, and other devices. In the model application phase, image samples undergo preprocessing and are input into the CNN for feature extraction. Sensor data are concatenated with image feature vectors and input into the fully connected layers to comprehensively understand the artwork. Finally, this work trains the model using techniques such as cross-entropy loss functions and L2 regularization and adjusts hyperparameters to optimize model performance. The results indicate that the improved CNN model can effectively acquire art sample data and student creative expression data, providing accurate and timely feedback and guidance for art design education and teaching, with promising applications. This work offers new insights and methods for the development of art design education.

Abstract Dryocosmus kuriphilus, commonly known as the chestnut gall wasp, belongs to the family Cynipidae and is native to China. It is a highly invasive insect species causing serious damage to chestnut trees and has rapidly spread to various continents, including Europe, North America, and Oceania. The D. kuriphilus has become one of the important pests of chestnut plants in the world and is listed as a quarantine object by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO). In this study, we used PacBio long reads, Illumina short reads, and Hi-C sequencing data to construct a chromosome-level assembly of the D. kuriphilus genome. The assembled genome includes 14,729 contigs with a total length of 2.28 Gb and a contig N50 of 0.8 Mb. With Hi-C technology, 2.17 Gb (95.02%) of contigs were anchored and oriented into the 10 pseudochromosomes with the scaffold N50 of 198.8 Mb and the scaffold N90 of 158.8 Mb. In total, 24,086 protein-coding genes were predicted in the assembled D. kuriphilus genome as the reference gene set. A total of 1.82 Gb repeats (occupying 79.7% of the genome), including 1.42 Gb of transposable elements and 0.40 Gb of tandem repeats, were identified in D. kuriphilus genome. In the evaluation of completeness, the BUSCO analysis determined a level of 98.1% completeness for the assembled genome sequences based on the Insecta database (OrthoDB version 10). The high-quality genome assembly of D. kuriphilus will not only provide a valuable reference for the study of its evolutionary history and genetic structure but also facilitate the research of host-pest interactions and invasiveness. Moreover, this genome assembly will promote in the development of effective management strategies to mitigate the economic and ecological impacts of this invasive pest on chestnut trees and ecosystems.

Abstract Background Bladder duplication is a rare congenital lower urinary tract anomaly disease characterized by the presence of two bladders, possibly with duplication of the urethra. This disease is rarely reported in cats. The clinical symptoms are commonly occult, with increased difficulty in making a definitive diagnosis, especially if there is no obvious urethral duplication. The diagnosis is typically based on radiographs and ultrasound, with computer tomography serving as a more advanced imaging diagnostic modality. Cases of duplicated bladders with accessory tubular tissues are even scarcer in both human and veterinary medicine. Case presentation A 6-year-old male neutered cat was brought to the hospital because of vomiting and constipation. Cystography revealed increased soft tissue density of a fusiform structure in the lower middle abdomen. The purulent-filled cavitary structure and the accessory tubular structure were removed via surgery, and histopathological examination confirmed a double bladder with attached accessory tubular tissue. After antibiotic treatment, the cat recovered uneventfully. Conclusion This is the first case of bladder duplication in China and the first case of feline bladder duplication with tubular structure attachment in the world. This information will provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of similar cases in the future.

Abstract Hematological malignancies (HM) are common malignant tumors with high morbidity and mortality rates, and are malignant diseases that seriously affect human health, with chemotherapy prone to recurrence and toxic side effects. Therefore, the development of precise, effective, and safe targeted therapeutic agents has become a hotspot in the current research of antitumor technology. More and more studies have shown that the interaction of C–C chemokine ligand 17 (CCL17) and C–C chemokine ligand 22 (CCL22) with the receptor C–C chemokine receptor type 4 (CCR4) promotes the immune escape of tumors and is closely related to the occurrence, development, and prognosis of hematological tumors. In this regard, we present a review on the expression and role of the CCL17/CCL22-CCR4 axis in HM, including lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma, with the aim of providing latest ideas and directions for the diagnosis and treatment of HM. In addition, we discuss the role and related mechanisms of HM therapeutic agents targeting the CCL17/CCL22-CCR4 axis and the potential of humanized anti-CCR4 antibodies for the treatment of HM.

Abstract Background Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) has a negative impact on patients’ quality of life, general activities, and is related to worse clinical outcomes. Fentanyl inhalant is a hand-held combination drug-device delivery system providing rapid, multi-dose (25μg/dose) administration of fentanyl via inhalation of a thermally generated aerosol. This multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, multiple-crossover, double-blind study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of fentanyl inhalant in treating BTcP in opioid-tolerant patients. Methods The trial was conducted in opioid-tolerant cancer patients with 1 ~ 4 BTcP outbursts per day. Each patient was treated and observed for 6 episodes of BTcP (4 with fentanyl inhalant, 2 with placebo). During each episode of targeted BTcP, patients were allowed up to six inhalations, with an interval of at least 4 min between doses. Primary outcome was the time-weighted sum of PID (pain intensity difference) scores at 30 min (SPID30). Results A total of 335 BTcP episodes in 59 patients were treated. The mean SPID30 was -97.4 ± 48.43 for fentanyl inhalant-treated episodes, and -64.6 ± 40.25 for placebo-treated episodes (p

A broadband online X-ray spectrometer has been designed and commissioned at the SUD beamline of the Shanghai Soft X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility, which can deliver both SASE and seeded FEL pulses to user experiments, spanning the photon energy range of 50–620 eV. The resolving powers of the spectrometer calibrated via online measurement at 92 eV and 249 eV are ∼20000 and ∼15000, respectively, and the absolute photon energy is characterized by an electron time-of-flight spectrometer. The high energy resolution provided by the spectrometer can differentiate the fine structure in the FEL spectrum, to determine its pulse length.

In-situ experimental observation cannot be an effective method in the impact process of metal cavitation erosion, and the impact damage energy prediction theory has not been established based on a detailed mathematical and physical model. Research has shown that the metal material can be regarded as a sensor to reflect the impact parameters. Soft metal materials such as industrial pure copper with a single α-phase microstructure can be a suitable sensor to detect cavitation erosion effects, revealing the impact behaviors of the cavitation jet through the depth, width and spatial distribution of cavitation pits on the surface. In this scenario, volume loss of cavitation pits on a macro/mesoscale are obtained by three-dimensional surface measurement. A coupled fluid-solid simulation model calculating the impact damage energy on a macro/mesoscale is established based on the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and the Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Method (CPFEM). Python programming is used to set the trajectory of SPH particles to determine the macro cavitation flow field. IFEM methods were used to construct the prediction theory of cavitation impact energy in a relatively simple exponential equation, establishing the quantitative relationship between cavitation impact damage energy and measured volume of cavitation pits. Compared with conventional measurement and simulation, the present multiscale approaches are assumed as a further step advancement towards calculating the impact damage energy of cavitation water jet.

【Objective】The effects of nitrogen fertilizer reduction on the growth and development, nutrient utilization, yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco were studied, and the feasibility of nitrogen fertilizer reduction was preliminarily clarified, which provided a theoretical basis for the sustainable production of flue-cured tobacco.【Method】Five treatments were set up, including no fertilization (control), conventional nitrogen application, 10% reduction of nitrogen fertilizer, 20% reduction of nitrogen fertilizer and 30% reduction of nitrogen fertilizer. The agronomic traits, economic traits, chemical composition and fertilizer utilization rate of tobacco plants in each treatment were compared and analyzed.【Result】An appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer reduction could shorten the growth period of flue-cured tobacco, and significantly increased the plant height, effective leaf number and maximum leaf width. In terms of chemical composition of tobacco leaves, the indexes of reducing sugar content, total nitrogen content and nicotine content of flue-cured tobacco leaves treated with nitrogen fertilizer reduction by 10% were all within the requirements of conventional chemical composition indexes of high-quality flue-cured tobacco in Yunnan. In terms of appearance quality of tobacco leaves, the color of flue-cured tobacco leaves treated with nitrogen fertilizer reduction of 10% and 20% was orange, the structure was loose or still loose, the oil was sufficient, and the appearance quality of tobacco leaves was better. In terms of nitrogen nutrient distribution, the nitrogen content of each part of tobacco plants showed the rule of leaf > stem > root, and the nitrogen content of tobacco leaves was significantly increased under the treatment of 10% nitrogen reduction. In terms of nitrogen use efficiency, after reducing nitrogen application by 10% and 20%, the nitrogen fertilizer utilization rate, agronomic efficiency and partial productivity of nitrogen fertilizer increased by 10.15%, 9.31%, 3.66%, 5.22%, 5.22%, 8.72%, respectively. After reducing nitrogen application by 30%, there was no significant difference between nitrogen fertilizer utilization rate and conventional nitrogen application rate. In terms of economic traits, the yield and output value of flue-cured tobacco increased by 6.47% and 16.18% after reducing nitrogen fertilizer by 10%.【Conclusion】The reduction of nitrogen fertilizer by 10% and 20% significantly affected the agronomic traits, nutrient distribution, chemical composition and economic traits of tobacco plants, however, the reduction of nitrogen fertilizer by 30% had no significant effect on the agronomic traits and economic traits of tobacco plants. The appropriate reduction of nitrogen fertilizer application promoted the growth of flue-cured tobacco, and improved the yield and quality as well as fertilizer utilization rate of flue-cured tobacco.

Abstract Purpose Inflammatory factors play an important role in the onset and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to develop and validate a novel scoring system that utilizes specific inflammatory factor indicators to predict intestinal obstruction in CRC patients. Methods This study conducted a retrospective analysis of 1,470 CRC patients who underwent surgical resection between January 2013 and July 2018. These patients were randomly allocated to the training group (n = 1060) and the validation group (n = 410). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictive factors for intestinal obstruction. The CRC peculiar inflammation score (CPIS), comprising lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), prognostic nutrition index (PNI), and alanine transaminase-to-lymphocyte ratio index (ALRI) scores, was significantly associated with the occurrence of intestinal obstruction. A nomogram combining CPIS with other clinical features was developed to predict this occurrence. Model accuracy was assessed by determining the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC). Results The CPIS generated by multi-factor logistic regression was as follows: − 1.576 × LMR − 0.067 × PNI + 0.018 × ALRI. Using CPIS cutoff values of 50% (− 7.188) and 85% (− 6.144), three predictive groups were established. Abstract Among over 2,000 species of mealybugs (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), only 13 genomes have been published so far, seriously limiting the researches on the phylogeny and adaptive evolution of this group. The continuous publication of mealybug genomes will significantly facilitate our exploration of the biological characteristics, detrimental attributes, and control strategies of the Pseudococcidae family. Jack Beardsley mealybug (Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi) as one of the hazardous invasive pests, it could cause enormous losses to the fruit and vegetable industries worldwide. Herein, we combined Nanopore long-read, short-read Illumina and Hi-C sequencing, generating a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of P. jackbeardsleyi. The genome size was determined to be 334.818 Mb, which was assembled into 5 linkage groups with a N50 of 67.233 Mb. The BUSCO analysis demonstrated the completeness of the genome assembly and annotation are 95.7% and 92.8%, respectively. The developed high-quality genome will serve as an asset for delving into the genetic mechanisms underlying the invasiveness of P. jackbeardsleyi, thereby offering a crucial theoretical foundation for the prevention and management of Pseudococcidae pests.
