1. Effects of functional oil blend on performance, blood metabolites, organ biometry and intestinal morphometry in nursery piglets

Abstract: This study was conducted to assess the effects of functional oil (FO) blend on performance, blood metabolites, organ biometry and intestinal morphometry in piglets. A total of 128 crossbreed piglets (Landrace × Large White, 64 uncastrated males and 64 females, 21 d of age, and 6.79 ± 1.76 kg BW) were allocated in a randomized complete block design with two dietary treatments: a FO-free (FOF) diet or a diet based on added FO (1,500 mg/kg of diet with castor oil plus cashew nutshell oil). Piglets fed FO showed higher (p ≤ 0.05) average daily feed intake, daily body weight gain and final body weight after 23 d of study. For the total period, piglets fed FO showed greater (p = 0.007) feed conversion ratio. On d 23, higher serum total protein (p = 0.026) and globulin (p = 0.050) concentration, lower liver (p = 0.042) and stomach (p = 0.074) weight, and greater (p = 0.082) villi height (VH) in duodenum were observed in piglets fed FO. Nonetheless, piglets fed FOF showed greater (p = 0.054) ileal VH, but greater (p = 0.004) crypt depth (CD) in jejunum. Piglets fed FO showed higher VH to CD ratio in jejunum (p = 0.068) and duodenum (p = 0.074) on d 23 and 37, respectively. Based on the results, FO blend improved the performance of weaned piglets; however, it negatively affected the feed conversion ratio in the total period. Moreover, FO blend promoted changes in total protein concentrations and improvements in digestive and absorptive capacity assessed through VH to CD ratio, with a significant reduction in organs.

Abstract: Organizations have suffered from the socioeconomic impacts of the global crisis scenario caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, it is essential to adopt objective measures to minimize harmful effects on organizational management. This study sought to identify the main strategies for reducing the impacts of COVID-19 on Brazilian organizations. It is a theoretical essay based on a literature review of articles from national and international databases, covering COVID-19, experiences in previous pandemics, as well as Brazilian legislation in force during the pandemic period. Considering this scenario of uncertainties, it is suggested to adopt strategies to minimize unfavorable impacts on corporate activities, such as efficient communication, work planning, digital enhancement, teleworking, and adoption of measures aimed at the welfare of workers. The need for emergency planning to face the pandemic was identified, with measures including empathic policies, provision of support for telework, and actions for adaptation and organizational maintenance during the crisis.

4. Desafios musicais: caminhos trilhados por violoncelistas profissionais na construção de suas performances

Abstract: Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a preparação para a performance musical de violoncelistas profissionais, pesquisando possibilidades de estratégias de estudo que possam gerar maior autonomia e criatividade na solução dos desafios técnicos e musicais que o repertório exige. Para tanto, além de pesquisa bibliográfica sobre processos criativos na preparação para a performance musical, foram abordados o trabalho literário, pedagógico e acadêmico de violoncelistas que refletem sobre a prática no instrumento de forma inovadora. Neste sentido, discutiu-se a busca da experiência do Fluxo e da plenitude na performance musical. Refletiu-se também sobre a necessidade dos cuidados e manutenção da saúde física, mental e emocional no cotidiano profissional. Para atingir esses objetivos, realizou-se um levantamento de práticas que vêm sendo utilizadas por músicos, paralelamente ao estudo do instrumento. Motivada pela experiência pessoal, aprofundou-se em uma reflexão sobre a prática do Qigong, elaborando-se breve histórico e pesquisa bibliográfica sobre essa arte milenar chinesa, estabelecendo relações e influências no campo da prática instrumental em geral e do violoncelo, especificamente. Finalmente, realizou-se pesquisa de campo que incluiu coleta e análise de dados a partir de um questionário respondido por 42 violoncelistas profissionais, do Brasil e do exterior. Utilizou-se a pesquisa quali-quantitativa, como metodologia de análise de dados. Foram abordadas as seguintes temáticas: o estudo do instrumento na vida profissional; estratégias de estudo utilizadas para lidar com dificuldades técnico-musicais de repertórios novos ou desafiadores; estratégias sem o uso do instrumento; principais sintomas de ansiedade de performance e estratégias de enfrentamento dos mesmos; atividades praticadas paralelamente ao estudo do instrumento, em busca de maior bem-estar físico, mental e emocional; e, por fim, influência dessas práticas no processo de preparação da performance musical. Nas considerações finais, estabeleceu-se as relações entre a pesquisa bibliográfica e a pesquisa de campo, apontando caminhos que podem inspirar estudantes, professores e outros violoncelistas profissionais. This work aims to investigate the preparation for musical performance of professional cellists, researching possibilities for study strategies that can generate greater autonomy and creativity in solving the technical and musical challenges that the repertoire requires. Therefore, in addition to bibliographical research on creative processes in the preparation of musical performance, the literary, pedagogical and academic work of cellists who reflect on the instrument\'s practice in an innovative way were approached. The search for the experience of Flow and fullness in musical performance was discussed. The author reflected on the need for care and maintenance of physical, mental and emotional health in daily professional life. To achieve these objectives, a panorama of practices that have been used by musicians was looked at, in parallel with the study of the instrument. Motivated by the personal experience of the author, the practice of Qigong was examined, offering a brief history and bibliographic research on this ancient Chinese art, establishing relationships and influences in the field of instrumental practice in general and the cello, specifically. Finally, a field survey included data collection and analysis from a questionnaire answered by 42 professional cellists, from Brazil and abroad. Quali-quantitative research was used as a data analysis methodology. The following topics were addressed: the study of the instrument in professional life; study strategies used to deal with technical-musical difficulties in new or challenging repertoires; strategies without the use of the instrument; main symptoms of performance anxiety and coping strategies; activities carried out in parallel with the study of the instrument, in search of greater physical, mental and emotional well-being; and the influence of these practices in the process of preparing a musical performance. In the final considerations, the author sought to establish relationships between bibliographic research and field research, pointing out ways that may inspire students, teachers and other professional cellists.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-01-01 The objective of this study was to evaluate the cholecalciferol and 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol glycoside supplementation in piglet diet on organ biometry and physicochemical composition, pH of the digestive tract contents, and bone traits. A total of 128 entire male piglets (21 days-old, 6.82±0.38 kg body weight) were distributed in a completely randomized block design with eight replications and four animals per experimental unit. The treatments were composed of a diet 100/0 = 100% of the vitamin D supplemented with cholecalciferol; 50/50 = 50% supplemented with cholecalciferol + 0.25 ng of 1,25(OH)2D3 glycoside; 25/75 = 25% supplemented with cholecalciferol + 0.375 ng of 1,25(OH)2D3 glycoside; and 0/100 = 0.50 ng of 1,25(OH)2D3 glycoside. The results indicated that piglets fed 100/0 showed an increase in spleen weight compared with those fed 0/100 and greater heart dry matter than piglets fed the 50/50 diet. Phosphorus concentration in the spleen was higher in piglets that received 25/75 when compared with those that received the 100/0 and 0/100 diets. Piglets that received the 0/100 diet showed higher pH of the stomach contents, but showed reduced pH of the contents of the jejunum and ileum. The width of the epiphysis and diaphysis was greater when piglets consumed the 50/50 treatment; however, a lower epiphysis height was observed. The use of 1,25(OH)2D3 glycoside alone in piglet diets does not negatively influence the pH of the gastrointestinal tract and organ physicochemical composition. In addition, the use of diets with 1,25(OH)2D3 glycoside as a replacement for cholecalciferol reduces spleen weight and promotes improvements in bone development. Abstract: Este estudo analisa as escrevivências de Jurema Batista, mulher negra de comunidade, graduada em Letras, eleita três vezes vereadora pelo Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) em 1992, 1996, 2000 e deputada estadual em 2002, na obra Sem passar pela vida em branco: memórias de uma guerreira, produzida em coautoria com Miria Ribeiro e publicada pela Editora Pallas em 2011. O objetivo central deste estudo é analisar e problematizar as representações racializadas e a intersecção de gênero e raça ao longo das narrativas de Jurema Batista na construção das identidades culturais de mulheres negras na sociedade brasileira. Em termos teóricos, adota-se a perspectiva dos Estudos Culturais em Educação, a partir da apropriação de conceitos como representação, identidade, interseccionalidade de gênero e raça e do conceito de escrevivências. Observa-se que as escrevivências de Jurema Batista revelam opressões interseccionais de gênero e de raça que se entrecruzam na construção de sua identidade de mulher negra de comunidade. Por outro lado, suas narrativas demonstram uma contínua trajetória de contestação às representações racializadas e um protagonismo comprometido com os direitos sociais e às necessidades da comunidade do Andaraí (RJ).

Abstract: RESUMO A importância da vitamina D na nutrição de suínos, em especial a sua relevância no crescimento e desenvolvimento ósseo. À medida que se intensificou a criação animal, mudanças na estrutura das instalações foram necessárias para se adaptar ao sistema, portanto, o ambiente que antes era aberto hoje apresenta instalações fechadas com telhado, o qual reduziu drasticamente o contato dos animais com o sol. Em consequência disso, os animais passaram a ser suplementados com a vitamina D na forma sintética para compensar a falta dos raios solares. Sendo assim, esta vitamina se tornou um elemento essencial nas rações de animais confinados. ABSTRACT This article aims to present the importance of vitamin D in pig nutrition, especially its relevance in bone growth and development, in the form of a literature review. As animal husbandry intensified, changes in the structure of the facilities were necessary to adapt to the system, so the environment that was once open, today has closed, with roof facilities, which has drastically reduced the animals contact with the sun. As a result, the animals were then supplemented with vitamin D in synthetic form to compensate for the lack of sunlight exposure. Therefore, this vitamin has become an essential element in confined animal feed.

8. Sentido del trabajo: un análisis con docentes brasileños y argentinos

Abstract: Organizations have sought alternatives to improve the quality of life of workers and one of the aspects that influence behavior is the sense of work. The objective of this study was to examine differences and similarities in the sense of the work among Brazilian and Argentine professors. This was a case study that used a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach. In the quantitative phase, we used the Work with Sense Scale, collecting data on 354 respondents, analysed through descriptive statistics. The qualitative phase consisted of a series of unstructured interviews with 16 professors, 8 of whom were Argentine and 8 Brazilian, followed by content analysis. The results revealed that Argentine and Brazilian professors feel their jobs are significant and have meaning, since all the factors were classified as high. These data were corroborated by the qualitative analysis that was in line with the quantitative findings. In order, the most positively valued factors in the general sample were: social utility of work, learning and development, coherence and expressiveness, quality of relationships, freedom and work ethic. Given the similar findings across both groups of professors, we did not find that sense of work is influenced by nationality., Las organizaciones han buscado alternativas para mejorar la calidad de vida de los trabajadores y uno de los aspectos que influyen en el comportamiento es el sentido del trabajo. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo verificar las diferencias y similitudes en el sentido del trabajo de los docentes brasileños y argentinos. Es un estudio de caso con un enfoque mixto, clasificado en cuantitativo y cualitativo. En la etapa cuantitativa se utilizó la Escala del Trabajo con Sentido con la cual se obtuvieron datos de 354 encuestados, que fueron sometidos a estadística descriptiva. La etapa cualitativa se llevó a cabo a través de entrevistas no estructuradas con 16 docentes, 8 de los cuales eran argentinos y 8 brasileños, que se sometieron a análisis de contenido. Los resultados revelaron que los docentes argentinos y brasileños tienen un trabajo significativo, ya que todos los factores fueron clasificados como altos. Estos datos fueron corroborados por los análisis cualitativos que mostraron estar en línea con los resultados cuantitativos. El orden en que los factores resultaron más positivos en la muestra general fue: utilidad social del trabajo, aprendizaje y desarrollo, coherencia y expresividad, calidad de las relaciones, libertad y ética en el trabajo. Considerando los valores similares encontrados, se identificó que la percepción del sentido del trabajo no está influenciada por la diferencia de nacionalidad.

Abstract: Predictability of burning plasmas is a key issue for designing and building credible future fusion devices. In this context, an important effort of physics understanding and guidance is being carried out in parallel to the on-going JET experimental campaigns in H, D and T by performing analyses and modelling towards an improvement of the understanding of DT physics for the optimization of the JET-DT neutron yield and fusion born alpha particle physics. Extrapolations to JET-DT from recent experiments using the maximum power available have been performed including some of the most sophisticated codes and a broad selection of models. There is a general agreement that 11-15MW of fusion power can be expected in DT for the hybrid and baseline scenarios. On the other hand, in high beta, torque and fast ion fraction conditions, isotope effects could be favourable leading to higher fusion yield. It is shown that alpha particles related physics, such as TAE destabilization or fusion power electron heating, could be studied in ITER relevant JET-DT plasmas.

Abstract: The electron temperature and density pedestals tend to vary in their relative radial positions, as observed in DIII-D (Beurskens et al 2011 Phys. Plasmas 18 056120) and ASDEX Upgrade (Dunne et al 2017 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion 59 14017). This so-called relative shift has an impact on the pedestal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stability and hence on the pedestal height (Osborne et al 2015 Nucl. Fusion 55 063018). The present work studies the effect of the relative shift on pedestal stability of JET ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) baseline low triangularity (δ) unseeded plasmas, and similar JET-C discharges. As shown in this paper, the increase of the pedestal relative shift is correlated with the reduction of the normalized pressure gradient, therefore playing a strong role in pedestal stability. Furthermore, JET-ILW tends to have a larger relative shift compared to JET carbon wall (JET-C), suggesting a possible role of the plasma facing materials in affecting the density profile location. Experimental results are then compared with stability analysis performed in terms of the peeling-ballooning model and with pedestal predictive model EUROPED (Saarelma et al 2017 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion). Stability analysis is consistent with the experimental findings, showing an improvement of the pedestal stability, when the relative shift is reduced. This has been ascribed mainly to the increase of the edge bootstrap current, and to minor effects related to the increase of the pedestal pressure gradient and narrowing of the pedestal pressure width. 14. A Interface da Autoavaliação em Saúde dos Professores e seu Preparo para Abordagem do Tema na Escola

Abstract: Objetivo: O presente estudo foi realizado com o intuito de analisar os conhecimentos sobre saude de professores de educacao fisica e a implicacao destes para cuidar da propria saude, bem como para abordar a tematica no campo escolar. Para isso, foi necessario identificar os fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de doencas cronicas degenerativas (DCD); Autoavaliar a saude e o conhecimento dos professores; Autoavaliar seu preparo para realizar observacao/orientacao na saude dos escolares. Material e Metodos: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, diagnostica, quantitativa. Fizeram parte da amostra todos os professores (17) que atuam na rede estadual de ensino de um municipio do noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados dois questionarios. Para a analise estatistica dos dados utilizou-se o programa SPSS 10.0. Os dados foram tratados atraves da estatistica descritiva (media e desvio padrao). A associacao entre as variaveis ordinais foi obtida atraves da correlacao linear de Pearson e entre as variaveis categoricas foi utilizado o Chi - quadrado com significância com p< 0,05. Resultados: Foi constatado que os professores autoavaliam sua saude de modo positivo, nao apresentam fatores de risco determinantes para o aparecimento de doencas cronicas, tem um bom conhecimento sobre estas, seus fatores de risco e prevencao, mas nao se sentem suficientemente preparados para abordagem da tematica saude na escola. Conclusoes: Os conhecimentos dos professores nao sao determinantes para a abordagem da tematica saude na escola. Esta perpassa pela formacao continuada no sentido de ampliar a articulacao do conhecimento com a acao pedagogica. DESCRITORES Saude. Professores. Autoavaliacao. Saude na Escola.

Abstract: Erosion of plasma-facing materials and successive transport and redeposition of eroded material are crucial processes determining the lifetime of plasma-facing components and the trapped tritium inventory in redeposited material layers. Erosion and deposition in the JET divertor were studied during the second JET ITER-like wall campaign ILW-2 in 2013-2014 by using a poloidal row of specially prepared divertor marker tiles including the tungsten bulk tile 5. The marker tiles were analyzed using elastic backscattering with 3-4.5 MeV incident protons and nuclear reaction analysis using 0.8-4.5 MeV 3He ions before and after the campaign. The erosion/deposition pattern observed during ILW-2 is qualitatively comparable to the first campaign ILW-1 in 2011-2012: deposits consist mainly of beryllium with 5-20 at.% of carbon and oxygen and small amounts of Ni and W. The highest deposition with deposited layer thicknesses up to 30 μm per campaign is still observed on the upper and horizontal parts of the inner divertor. Outer divertor tiles 5, 6, 7 and 8 are net W erosion areas. The observed D inventory is roughly comparable to the inventory observed during ILW-1. The results obtained during ILW-2 therefore confirm the positive results observed in ILW-1 with respect to reduced material deposition and hydrogen isotopes retention in the divertor.

Abstract: Post mortem analyses of JET ITER-Like-Wall tiles and passive diagnostics have been completed after each of the first two campaigns (ILW-1 and ILW-2). They show that the global fuel inventory is still dominated by co-deposition; hence plasma parameters and sputtering processes affecting material migration influence the distribution of retained fuel. In particular, differences between results from the two campaigns may be attributed to a greater proportion of pulses run with strike points in the divertor corners, and having about 300 discharges in hydrogen at the end of ILW-2. Recessed and remote areas can contribute to fuel retention due to the larger areas involved, e.g. recessed main chamber walls, gaps in castellated Be main chamber tiles and material migration to remote divertor areas. The fuel retention and material migration due to the bulk W Tile 5 during ILW-1 are presented. Overall these tiles account for only a small percentage of the global accountancy for ILW-1.

Abstract: © 2017 Technical University of Denmark. We demonstrate the measurement of a 2D MeV-range ion velocity distribution function by velocity-space tomography at JET. Deuterium ions were accelerated into the MeV-range by third harmonic ion cyclotron resonance heating. We made measurements with three neutron emission spectrometers and a high-resolution γ-ray spectrometer detecting the γ-rays released in two reactions. The tomographic inversion based on these five spectra is in excellent agreement with numerical simulations with the ASCOT-RFOF and the SPOT-RFOF codes. The length of the measured fast-ion tail corroborates the prediction that very few particles are accelerated above 2 MeV due to the weak wave-particle interaction at higher energies.

Abstract: The Motional Stark Effect (MSE) is used to measure the internal topology of the magnetic field and radial electric field in a tokamak plasma. MSESIM, a MSE simulation code originally developed for MAST, was transformed to simulate the MSE effect on C-MOD. This code was extended to simulate the Paschen Back Effect and the non statistical population of the energy levels. MSESIM was benchmarked against PERF, a different MSE simulation code developed for JET and C-MOD, to gain more confidence in the results of both codes. MSESIM has been used to investigate the influence of the collection optics, beam divergence, collection volume, Paschen Back Effect, non statistical population of the energy levels and the narrow bandpass filter on the spectrum and polarisation angle of C-MOD. 23. Two-dimensional studies of electron Bernstein Wave Emission in MAST

Abstract: Angular scanning of electron Bernstein wave emission (EBE) has been conducted in MAST. From EBE measurements over a range of viewing angles, the angular position and orientation of the B-X-O mode conversion (MC) window can be estimated, giving the pitch angle of the magnetic field in the MC layer. The radial position of the corresponding MC layer is found from Thomson scattering measurements. Measurements at several frequencies can provide a pitch angle profile. Results of pitch angle profile reconstruction from EBE measurements are presented in comparison with motional Stark effect measurements. Microwave imaging of the B-X-O MC window is proposed as an alternative to angular scanning. The proposed scheme is based on an imaging phased array of antennas allowing the required angular resolution. Image acquisition time ismuch shorter than magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) time scales so the EBE imaging can be used for pitch angle measurements even in the presence of MHD activity.

24. The impact of age on changes in quality of life among breast cancer survivors treated with breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy

Abstract: Background: The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of young age on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) by comparing HRQoL of younger and older breast cancer patients, corrected for confounding, and of young patients and a general Dutch population. Methods: The population consisted of breast cancer survivors (stage 0-III) after breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy. Health-related quality of life was prospectively assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BR23 questionnaires. The association between age (less than or equal to50; 51–70; greater than or equal to70 years) and HRQoL over time was analysed with mixed modelling. The clinical relevance of differences between/within age groups was estimated with Cohen’s D and consensus-based guidelines. The HRQoL data from the young patient cohort were compared with Dutch reference data at 3 years after radiotherapy. Results: A total of 1420 patients completed 3200 questionnaires. Median follow-up was 34 (range 6–70) months. Median age was 59 (range 28–85) years. Compared with older subjects, young women reported worse HRQoL in the first year after radiotherapy, but clinical relevance was limited. Three years after radiotherapy, HRQoL values in the younger group were equal to those in the reference population. Pain and fatigue after radiotherapy improved, with medium clinical relevance. Conclusions: Three years after radiotherapy for breast cancer, young age was not a risk factor for decreased HRQoL. 25. Understanding and controlling plasma rotation in tokamaks

Abstract: Fusion energy is an attractive candidate for future energy production. At very high temperatures the nuclei of two hydrogen isotopes, deuterium and tritium, fuse, producing helium, a neutron and a very large amount of energy. The high temperatures that are needed to make fusion reactions possible can be reached in a plasma that is magnetically confined. The most successful concept for the magnetic confinement of a plasma is the tokamak. However, despite the success of the tokamak, several challenges still lie ahead. One of these challenges is the magnetic stability. If we want to assure the magnetic stability of a tokamak, it is necessary to know what causes magnetic instabilities. An important class of magnetohydrodynamic instabilities are so-called tearing modes or magnetic islands. These tearing modes can be triggered by an external magnetic error field, which can be due to misalignment of field coils, asymmetries in the tokamak vessel et cetera. It has been observed on several tokamaks that the excitation of these error field induced modes depends strongly on the plasma rotation. Also theories have been developed to describe this dependency. The TEXTOR tokamak is very well suited to investigate the relation between plasma rotation and the excitation of tearing modes. Two tangential neutral beam injectors give us complete control over the plasma rotation. A set of perturbation coils, called the dynamic ergodic divertor (DED), provide a fully adjustable perturbation field. With the tangential neutral beams and the DED, dedicated experiments were carried out to test the theory on mode excitation. When an external perturbation field is applied, the plasma rotation is expected change until the rotation velocity is so that tearing modes would be at rest in the frame of the perturbation field. Once this rotation velocity is reached, large tearing modes will develop in the plasma. This is called mode excitation or mode penetration. A too low perturbation field may not induce enough change in plasma rotation to reach the rotation velocity for which the tearing modes are at rest in the frame of the perturbation field. This means that the perturbation level needs to reach a certain threshold in order to excite tearing modes. The theory found in the literature predicts a monotonic change in the plasma rotation. It also predicts that the threshold for mode excitation increases with the plasma rotation velocity. The direction of the rotation, within the frame of the perturbation field, is not important, hence the threshold as a function of the rotation velocity is symmetric around the minimal threshold. The results of our experiments deviate from the predictions made by the theory. Instead of a monotonic change in the plasma rotation, we found that the plasma has an initial tendency to rotate in the co-current direction when the DED is applied. For a plasma that rotates faster in the co-current direction than the DED field, this means that the plasma first accelerates and only at a high perturbation strength starts to slow down. Not only the measured change in plasma rotation was different than expected. Also the relation between the plasma rotation and the threshold for mode excitation was not in agreement with the theory. Instead of the predicted symmetry around the minimal threshold, we measured that the threshold increases faster with increasing plasma corotation than with increasing counter-rotation. The reason for this discrepancy between theory and experiment was found in the plasma edge. An external perturbation field creates a stochastic zone in the plasma edge. Fast electron transport parallel to the stochastic field lines leads to a radial electron loss current. Ambipolarity requires this loss current to be balanced by a perpendicular return current, that in turn exerts a j × B-force onto the plasma. This stochastic torque is always in the co-current direction and saturates for a high perturbation strength. In most tokamaks the stochastic region will be very small and the stochastic force can be ignored. In TEXTOR however, the stochastic force is quite large, because one of the main objectives of the DED is to significantly perturb the plasma edge. The conventional theory of mode excitation does not take this stochastic force into account. The change in plasma rotation and the threshold as a function of plasma rotation is found by balancing an electromagnetic torque at the position of the mode with a viscous torque that opposes any change in the plasma rotation. Because the stochastic torque can not be ignored, in TEXTOR the balance of the EM torque, the viscous torque and the stochastic torque has to be taken. With the stochastic force included in the mode excitation model, the measurements of the plasma rotation and the rotation dependence of the mode excitation could be explained. For co-rotating plasmas the EM torque tries to slow the plasma down, while the stochastic torque tries to increase the plasma velocity. In an initial stage the stochastic torque is dominant and the plasma rotation increases. When the perturbation field is increased the EM torque takes over, the plasma slows down and mode excitation occurs. The stochastic torque opposes the EM torque, resulting in a high the excitation threshold. For counter-rotating plasmas, both the stochastic and the EM torque slow down the plasma. As a result the threshold for mode excitation is not as high for counter-rotating plasmas as it is for plasmas rotating with the same speed in the co-direction. Two conclusions can be drawn from this work: (a) In absence of a stochastic field the conventional mode excitation theory is valid. (b) The introduction of a stochastic edge field is beneficial for co-rotating plasmas: the threshold for mode excitation increases and – for moderate perturbations – the rotation itself also increases. ITER is expected to rotate in the co-direction. It may be therefore worthwhile to look into the possibility of a stochastic edge. Especially because, apart from a higher mode threshold and a faster rotation, stochasticity also suppresses unfavourable ELM’s in H-mode. Both with and without a stochastic edge region, the fact remains that a fast rotating plasma is less sensitive to tearing modes than a slowly rotating plasma. In present day tokamaks neutral beam injectors provide the necessary high rotation speed. For the next generation of fusion reactors the neutral beams will not be able to deliver enough momentum to a plasma. Other sources of momentum input are therefore needed. A promising source of momentum input is ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH). The effect of ICRH on plasma rotation is, however, still not very well understood. Depending on the plasma Understanding and controlling plasma rotation in tokamaks conditions ICRH can induce both co- or counter-rotation. In TEXTOR it was found that ICRH acts as a source of momentum in the counter-current direction. If ICRH changes the plasma rotation, we may assume that also electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) has an influence on the plasma rotation. In TEXTOR it was found that the changes in rotation during ECRH were related to changes in the local transport. This opens perspectives for local shaping of the rotation profile. Especially the possibility to locally increase the velocity gradient is interesting, because a sheared velocity suppresses turbulence and thus increases the confinement.

Abstract: The motional Stark effect (MSE) diagnostic is used to measure the radial magnetic pitch-angle profile in neutral-beam-heated plasmas. The diagnostic relies upon the measurement of the polarization direction of Stark-split D-alpha emission from injected fast neutral atoms in a magnetic field. Measurements of the magnetic pitch angle are used with magnetic equilibrium reconstruction codes such as EFIT to calculate the safety factor in shaped plasmas. The MSE diagnostic is important for determining the shape of the q profile to optimize confinement and stability, and it has become a key element in high-performance tokamaks. For the purpose of achieving the high-performance operating region in the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research KSTAR device, two types of methods are being studied. In KSTAR, a multichord PEM (photo-elastic modulator)-based MSE system is being developed, and an imaging MSE polarimetry system using the coherence imaging technique has been showing promising initial results during the last two KSTAR experimental campaigns in 2012 and 2013, respectively. In this paper, we describe the progress of the KSTAR MSE diagnostics.

Abstract: A multi-chord PEM (photo elastic modulator)-based polarimetric motional Stark effect (MSE) system is under development for the KSTAR tokamak. The conceptual design for the front optics was optimized to preserve not only the polarization state of the input light for the MSE measurements but also the signal intensity of the existing charge exchange spectroscopy (CES) system that will share the front optics with the MSE. The optics design incorporates how to determine the number of channels and the number of fibers for each channel. A dielectric coating will be applied on the mirror to minimize the relative reflectivity and the phase shift between the two orthogonal polarization components of the incident light. Lenses with low stress-birefringence constants will be adopted to minimize non-linear and random changes in the polarization through the lenses, which is a trade-off with the rather high Faraday rotation in the lenses because the latter effect is linear and can be relatively easily calibrated out. Intensive spectrum measurements and their comparisons with the simulated spectra are done to assist the design of the bandpass filter system that will also use tilting stages to remotely control the passband. Following the system installation in 2014, the MSE measurements are expected to be performed during the 2015 KSTAR campaign.

This information is used to calculate the safety factor, q, with magnetic equilibrium reconstruction codes such as EFIT. The MSE diagnostic is important during active shaping of the q profile to optimize confinement and stability, and it has become a key diagnostic in high performance tokamaks. A multichord photo-elastic modulator (PEM) based MSE system is being developed for a real-time plasma current profile control in Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR). The PEM-based approach is a standard method that measures the polarization direction of a single Stark line with narrow tunable bandpass filters. A tangential view of the heating beam provides good spatial resolution of 1–3 cm, which provides an opportunity to install 25 spatial channels spanning the major radius from 1.74 m to 2.84 m. Application of real-time control is a long-term technical goal after commissioning the diagnostic in KSTAR, which is expected in 2015. In this paper, we describe the design of this newly-constructed multichord MSE diagnostic in KSTAR. © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

Abstract: To step up from current day fusion experiments to power producing fusion reactors, it is necessary to control long pulse, burning plasmas. Stability and confinement properties of tokamak fusion reactors are determined by the current or q profile. In order to control the q profile, it is necessary to measure it in real-time. A real-time motional Stark effect diagnostic is being developed at Korean Superconducting Tokamak for Advanced Research for this purpose. This paper focuses on 3 topics important for real-time measurements: minimize the use of ad hoc parameters, minimize external influences and a robust and fast analysis algorithm. Specifically, we have looked into extracting the retardance of the photo-elastic modulators from the signal itself, minimizing the influence of overlapping beam spectra by optimizing the optical filter design and a multi-channel, multiharmonic phase locking algorithm.

Abstract: A motional Stark effect (MSE) diagnostic is now installed and operating routinely on the MAST spherical tokamak, with 35 radial channels, spatial resolution of ~ 2.5 cm, and time resolution of ~ 1 ms at angular noise levels of ~ 0.5°. Conventional (albeit very narrow) interference filters isolate p or s polarized emission. Avalanche photodiode detectors with digital phase-sensitive detection measure the harmonics of a pair of photoelastic modulators operating at 20 and 23 kHz, and thus the polarization state. The p component is observed to be significantly stronger than s, in reasonably good agreement with atomic physics calculations, and as a result, almost all channels are now operated on p. Trials with a wide filter that admits the entire Stark pattern (relying on the net polarization of the emission) have demonstrated performance almost as good as the conventional channels. MSE-constrained equilibrium reconstructions can readily be produced between pulses. © 2010 EURATOM

Abstract: AbstractIn a group of 15 male Wistar rats overfed with cafeteria foods (delivering a mean fat percentage of 60%) during 5 months from the age of 8 weeks and in a control group of 15 rats fed with a standard chow for the same period, serum leptin, insulin and corticosterone were measured by RIA and body composition was determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Significantly higher fasting serum concentrations of leptin, insulin and corticosterone were found in the cafeteria-diet group. Fasting leptin concentrations were significantly higher in rats with a body fat percentage of more than 25% compared to the others, irrespective of the type of feeding. The log serum leptin correlated positively with body fat percentage and fasting insulin concentration but not with corticosterone concentration. Leptin concentration corrected for body fat mass was, however, comparable between the two diet groups, while the leptin/insulin ratio was lower in the cafeteria-diet group. In conclusion, chronic overfeeding resulting in an increased body fat percentage in rats is associated with hyperleptinemia, hyperinsulinemia and hypercorticism. Serum leptin levels appear to primarily track total body fat percentage and are unaffected by dietary fat manipulation in cafeteria-diet-induced obese rats.

37. Validation of the OFIT technique for the detection of the plasma boundary at MAST : traineeship report

Abstract: A plasma boundary reconstruction method based on optical images was introduced by Hommen et al.[1]. Consistency of the boundary with the boundary from magnetic measurements was demonstrated for a few cases, but systematic validation over a wide range of plasma parameters was lacking. Here we present a systematic comparison of the EFIT (magnetic) and OFIT (optical) boundaries for more than two hundred MAST (Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak) discharges. For this comparison, the OFIT concept had to be implemented in the MAST data analysis chain and needed to be improved on a number of points. A dimensionless figure of merit has been introduced comparing the non-overlapping regions with the overlapping regions. With this criterion, overall discrepancies of about 6-8% were found between the optical and magnetic boundary. These dimensionless discrepancies translate to overall distances between the EFIT and OFIT boundaries of about 2-3 cm. Upper-limits on the error of OFIT, of 2:7 cm for the DND case and 4:1 cm for the SND case, were found. No (strong) correlation was found with plasma parameters such as normalized pressure ß or self induction li. We show that a significant part of the discrepancy is likely caused by faults in the EFIT reconstruction. This leads to the conclusion that the OFIT technique, if implemented and used correctly, is usable for reliable real-time detection of plasma position and shape, with an overall error less than 3-4 cm.

Abstract: Major developments on the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) have enabled important advances in support of ITER and the physics basis of a spherical tokamak (ST) based component test facility (CTF), as well as providing new insight into underlying tokamak physics. For example, L-H transition studies benefit from high spatial and temporal resolution measurements of pedestal profile evolution (temperature, density and radial electric field) and in support of pedestal stability studies the edge current density profile has been inferred from motional Stark effect measurements. The influence of the q-profile and E x B flow shear on transport has been studied in MAST and equilibrium flow shear has been included in gyro-kinetic codes, improving comparisons with the experimental data. H-modes exhibit a weaker q and stronger collisionality dependence of heat diffusivity than implied by IPB98(y,2) scaling, which may have important implications for the design of an ST-based CTF. ELM mitigation, an important issue for ITER, has been demonstrated by applying resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) using both internal and external coils, but full stabilization of type-I ELMs has not been observed. Modelling shows the importance of including the plasma response to the RMP fields. MAST plasmas with q > 1 and weak central magnetic shear regularly exhibit a long-lived saturated ideal internal mode. Measured plasma braking in the presence of this mode compares well with neo-classical toroidal viscosity theory. In support of basic physics understanding, high resolution Thomson scattering measurements are providing new insight into sawtooth crash dynamics and neo-classical tearing mode critical island widths. Retarding field analyser measurements show elevated ion temperatures in the scrape-off layer of L-mode plasmas and, in the presence of type-I ELMs, ions with energy greater than 500 eV are detected 20 cm outside the separatrix. Disruption mitigation by massive gas injection has reduced divertor heat loads by up to 70%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Background: Childhood obesity remains a serious public health concern. Community-based childhood obesity treatment interventions have the potential to improve health behaviors and outcomes among children, but require thorough evaluation to facilitate translation of research into practice. The purpose of the current study was to determine the feasibility of a community-based, parent-focused childhood obesity intervention ("C.H.A.M.P. Families") using the RE-AIM framework, an evaluation tool for health interventions., Methods: A single-group, non-randomized, repeated measures feasibility study was conducted. Participants (n = 16 parents/caregivers of 11 children with obesity) completed a 13-week parent-focused education intervention. The intervention consisted of three main components: (a) eight group-based (parent-only) education sessions; (b) eight home-based (family-centered) activities; and (c) two group-based follow-up support sessions for parents and children. The five dimensions of RE-AIM-reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance-were assessed using various measures and data sources (e.g., child, parent/caregiver, costing, census) obtained throughout the study period. Outcome variables were measured at baseline, mid-intervention, post-intervention, and at a 6-month follow-up., Results: Overall, the C.H.A.M.P. Families intervention reached approximately 0.09% of eligible families in London, Ontario. Despite the small number, participants were generally representative of the population from which they were drawn, and program participation rates were high (reach). Findings also suggest that involvement in the program was associated with improved health-related quality of life among children (effectiveness/individual-level maintenance). In addition, the intervention had high fidelity to protocol, attendance rates, and cost-effectiveness (implementation). Lastly, important community partnerships were established and maintained (adoption/setting-level maintenance)., Conclusions: Based on a detailed and comprehensive RE-AIM evaluation, the C.H.A.M.P. 43. Saline-Lock Versus Continuous Infusion: Maintaining Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Access in Children.

Abstract: Objectives: In children, peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVs) are maintained by either a continuous infusion of fluid "to keep vein open" (TKO) or a saline lock (SL). There is a widespread perception that TKO prolongs PIV patency, but there is a lack of evidence for this. We hypothesized that there would be no significant difference in duration of PIV patency between TKO and SL., Patients and Methods: This prospective, time-allocated study included patients from newborn to 17 years of age admitted to our pediatric ward. Patients enrolled in the first 3 months were assigned to TKO, and patients in the latter 3 months were assigned to SL. Primary outcome was duration of functional patency of the first PIV during the time of TKO or SL. Secondary outcomes included PIV-related complications and patient and caregiver satisfaction., Results: Complete PIV data were available on 172 ( n = 85 TKO, n = 87 SL) of 194 enrolled patients. The mean (SD) duration of PIV patency was 41.68 (41.71) hours in the TKO group and 44.05 (41.46) hours in the SL group, which was not significantly different ( P = .71). There were no significant differences in complication rates or overall patient and caregiver satisfaction. One patient in the TKO group had their PIV removed because of risk of strangulation from tubing., Conclusion: There were no significant differences between TKO and SL in the duration of PIV patency, complication rates, and overall patient and caregiver satisfaction in our pediatric population. Abstract: Introduction: Preschoolers have the highest rate of emergency visits and hospitalisations for asthma exacerbations of all age groups, with most triggered by upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) and occurring in the fall or winter. Vitamin D insufficiency is highly prevalent in Canadian preschoolers with recurrent asthma exacerbations, particularly in winter. It is associated with more URTIs and, in patients with asthma, more oral corticosteroid (OCS) use. Although evidence suggests that vitamin D supplements significantly decrease URTIs and asthma exacerbations requiring OCS, there is insufficient data in preschoolers. This study aims to determine the impact of vitamin D 3 supplementation on exacerbations requiring OCS, in preschoolers with recurrent URTI-induced asthma exacerbations., Methods and Analysis: This is a phase III, randomised, triple-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group multicentre trial of vitamin D 3 supplementation in children aged 1-5 years, with asthma triggered by URTIs and a recent history of frequent URTIs and OCS use. Children (n=865) will be recruited in the fall and early winter and followed for 7 months. They will be randomised to either the (1) intervention: two oral boluses of 100 000 international unit (IU) vitamin D 3 (3.5 months apart) with 400 IU vitamin D 3 daily; or (2) control: identical placebo boluses with daily placebo. The primary outcome is the number of exacerbations requiring OCS per child, documented by medical and pharmacy records. Secondary outcomes include number of laboratory-confirmed viral URTIs, exacerbation duration and severity, parent functional status, healthcare use, treatment deintensification, cost and safety., Ethics and Dissemination: This study has received ethical approval from all sites. Results will be disseminated via international conferences and manuscripts targeting paediatricians and respirologists, and to families of asthmatic children via our Quebec parents-partners outreach programme. Abstract: Childhood obesity represents a significant global health challenge, and treatment interventions are needed. The purpose of this paper is to describe the components and theoretical model that was used in the development and implementation of a unique parent-focussed paediatric overweight/obesity intervention. C.H.A.M.P. Families was a single-centre, prospective intervention offered to parents of children aged between 6⁻14 years with a body mass index (BMI) ≥85th percentile for age and sex. The intervention included: (1) eight group-based (parent-only) education sessions over 13-weeks; (2) eight home-based activities; and (3) two group-based (family) follow-up support sessions. The first section of the manuscript contains a detailed description of each intervention component, as well as an overview of ongoing feasibility analyses. The theoretical portion details the use of evidence-based group dynamics principles and motivational interviewing techniques within the context of a broader social cognitive theory foundation. This paper provides researchers with practical examples of how theoretical constructs and evidence-based strategies can be applied in the development and implementation of parent-focussed paediatric obesity interventions. Given the need for transparent reporting of intervention designs and theoretical foundations, this paper also adds to the areas of implementation science and knowledge translation research.

Abstract: Background: Research indicates that physicians may frequently use pharmacotherapy to treat pediatric insomnia despite minimal safety data and very limited indications. Canadian data on the subject are lacking. This study aimed to determine physicians' views on and prescribing habits for sleep-promoting over-the-counter medication (OTCM) and prescription (RXM) medications for children., Methods: A modified 26-item version of the 'Pediatric Sleep Medication Survey', originally developed by Judith Owens and colleagues, was sent to 100 pediatricians and a random sample of 421 family physicians in Southwestern Ontario, Canada., Results: A total of 67 returned surveys were sufficiently complete for analysis. Sixty-one respondents indicated their specialty (28 pediatricians, 33 family physicians). In a typical 6-month period, 89% and 66% of respondents have recommended OTCM and RXM, respectively, for children with sleep problems. Only 20% have received any formal training on pediatric sleep disorders. The most common circumstances and sleep problems for which OTCM or RXM were recommended were mood disorders, developmental delay and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (56, 40, and 39%, respectively), and insomnia, bedtime struggles/delayed sleep onset and circadian rhythm disorders (52, 48, and 28%, respectively). A total of 30% recommended OTCM or RXM to otherwise healthy children with sleep problems. Melatonin (73%), OTC antihistamines (41%), antidepressants (37%), and benzodiazepines (29%) were the most commonly recommended OTCM and RXM, respectively., Conclusions: Respondents in our sample frequently use pharmacotherapy to treat pediatric sleep problems; few have received any training in this area. Abstract: Background: Though recent data suggest that multidisciplinary outpatient interventions can have a positive effect on childhood obesity, it is still unclear which program components are most beneficial and how they affect quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to determine if a 1-year multidisciplinary, family-centered outpatient intervention based on social cognitive theory would be effective in (i) preventing further increases in BMI and BMI z-score, and (ii) improving QoL in obese children and adolescents., Methods: Obese children and adolescents 8-17 years of age and their families participated in this 1-year longitudinal pilot intervention study. The intervention consisted of fifteen 90-minute educational sessions led by a dietitian, exercise specialist, and social worker. Anthropometric measures, body composition, and QoL (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0), were assessed at baseline, 3 months, and 12 months. Laboratory values were measured at baseline and 12 months. The primary outcome measures were change in BMI and BMI z-score, secondary outcome measures included change in QoL and body composition. A paired sample t-test was used to assess within-group differences and 95% confidence intervals were reported for the mean differences., Results: 42 obese children and adolescents (21 girls) completed the 1-year intervention (mean age 12.8 ± 3.14 years). Mean baseline BMI was 31.96 ± 5.94 kg/m(2) and BMI z-score was +2.19 ± 0.34. Baseline QoL (self-assessments and parental assessments) was impaired: mean baseline scores were 74.5 ± 16.5 and 63.7 ± 19.4 for physical functioning and 69.0 ± 14.9 and 64.0 ± 18.3 for emotional functioning, respectively. At 12 months, BMI z-score had decreased (-0.07 ± 0.11, 95% CI: -0.11 to -0.04). BMI (0.80 ± 1.57 kg/m(2), 95% CI 0.31 to 1.29) and fat-free mass (4.02 ± 6.27 kg, 95% CI 1.90 to 6.14) increased, but % body fat and waist circumference did not. Both the parent-reported physical (11.3 ± 19.2, 95% CI 4.7 to 17.9) and emotional (7.7 ± 15.7, 95% CI 2.3 to 13.0) functioning QoL scores and the children's self-reported physical (5.3 ± 17.1, 95% CI 0.5 to 11.1) and emotional (7.9 ± 14.3, 95% CI 3.2 to 12.7) functioning scores significantly improved., Conclusions: Following a 1-year intervention, the participants' BMI z-scores and QoL improved, while other adiposity-related measures of body composition remained unchanged., Trial Registration: UMIN Clinical Trials Registry UMIN000015622 .

50. Asymptomatic critical hypoglycaemia: a dangerous presentation of glycogen storage disease type Ib in infancy.

Abstract: Unlabelled: We report the case of a 3-month-old boy who presented with a 3-day history of respiratory tract infection and poor feeding. He was incidentally found to have profound hypoglycaemia, high-anion-gap lactic acidosis, ketonuria, hyperlipidemia, hepatomegaly, growth failure and neutropenia. Glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib), an autosomal recessive metabolic defect of the microsomal transporter glucose-6-phosphate-translocase, was suspected and confirmed by genetic testing. Treatment consisted of initial intravenous glucose and fluids to correct his lactic acidosis, followed by a strict dietary protocol consisting of soy-based infant formula enriched with glucose polymers from cornstarch and overnight gastrostomy feeds., Conclusions: GSD I should be considered in all young children presenting with hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis. Presence of neutropenia further confirms GSD Ib.
