A MATLAB environment based mathematical model of a 4- phase Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) with fewer experimental flux linkage and static torque data, with possible measurements using instruments within accuracy and precision, and more extended data with interpolation respectively is presented. The main objective of this research is to investigate the performance of SRM with variable available data used as lookup data in the model of SRM. Firstly, the necessary experimental input data is discussed. Then, these data points are extended for a range of current and rotor positions. Finally, simulations are carried out under these data for the same operating conditions. This paper proposes a sub-harmonic-based brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) topology. The proposed topology involves two threephase stator windings with a different number of turns. Both windings are linked in parallel and are provided with current from a single inverter. One of these windings is a four-pole winding while the second winding is a two-pole winding. This arrangement generates a magneto-motive force (MMF) in the air-gap of the machine comprising of two components: a regular fundamental MMF and a sub-harmonic MMF. The fundamental component produces the main stator field whereas the sub-harmonic component generates a subharmonic field that is utilized to produce a harmonic current in a two-pole rotor harmonic winding. The induced harmonic current is rectified to inject direct current (DC) to the field winding and produce a four-pole rotor magnetic field. The four-pole rotor magnetic field when magnetically interacts with the same number of the main stator field poles producing torque. Switched reluctance machine (SRM) has progressed as a suitable contender in the family of electrical machines for its high starting torque and better performance in different operating conditions. The need for accurate modeling of this machine is, therefore, dependent on the accurate determination of losses of which iron loss is exigent. This article aims to determine iron loss from the equivalent circuit parameters of the machine based on the input data tables that are directly obtained from the experiments carried out on an existing four-phase, bifilar wound SRM. The procedure and necessary steps for the loss separation method are well defined and supported by the theoretical and practical results. In this paper, the reluctance torque is utilized for improving the starting and average torques of a conventional brushless wound field synchronous machine (BL-WFSM). The conventional BL-WFSMs have an inherent issue of zero-starting torque. The existing BL topologies use expensive rare-earth permanent magnets (RE-PMs) to improve the starting torque; however, the marker price of RE-PMs fluctuates. Therefore, this paper proposes the use of the reluctance torque for improving the starting and average torques of BL-WFSMs. The winding topology and machine layout are adopted, from recently published work. The suggested approach increases the reluctance effect in BL-WFSM by optimizing the rotor shape. The reluctance effect is optimized, to improve the starting and average torques. The Kriging method and a genetic algorithm are used for the rotor optimization. The concept of smart grid was introduced a decade ago. Demand side management (DSM) is one of the crucial aspects of smart grid that provides users with the opportunity to optimize their load usage pattern to fill the gap between energy supply and demand and reduce the peak to average ratio (PAR), thus resulting in energy and economic efficiency ultimately. The application of DSM programs is lucrative for both utility and consumers. Utilities can implement DSM programs to improve the system power quality, power reliability, system efficiency, and energy efficiency, while consumers can experience energy savings, reduction in peak demand, and improvement of system load profile, and they can also maximize usage of renewable energy resources (RERs). Summary: This paper proposes a simplified harmonic field‐excitation scheme for the brushless operation of wound‐rotor synchronous machines (WRSMs). The proposed scheme involves two inverters that are operating at different frequencies to provide an input current to the armature winding of the machine. One of these two inverters works at a frequency of 60 Hz and provides the regular three‐phase fundamental current, whereas the second inverter works at 180 Hz frequency to supply the single‐phase third‐harmonic to the common point of the start‐connected stator winding of the machine. The proposed method has the advantage that a conventional single‐phase inverter can be used for generating the third‐harmonic current which only needs to be operated at three times the frequency of the first inverter supplying the three‐phase fundamental current. The fundamental three‐phase current generates the main armature field, and the single‐phase third‐harmonic current produces a pulsating magnetomotive force, that induces electromotive force (EMF) in the harmonic winding of the rotor. The induced EMF is rectified to supply field current to the rotor and generates the rotor field. This field, when interacts with the main armature field, produces torque. The proposed brushless field‐excitation scheme for WRSMs is implemented in JMAG‐Designer version 19.1 using 2‐D finite element analysis to realize its operation and analyze its performance. In this article, a new low-cost small-scale three-phase brushless motor topology is proposed. This is a new topology for self-excitation of brushless wound rotor synchronous motor investigated initially for rated speed. For brushless excitation, the stator is designed to contain two windings, namely, three-phase armature winding and exciter winding. The rotor consists of two windings, that is, harmonic winding and field winding, and a diode rectifier. An inverter feeds the three-phase armature winding which is connected in series through an uncontrolled three-phase rectifier to a single exciter winding. When the current is supplied from the inverter, both the armature and exciter windings are energized eventually producing a flux in the air gap. Since the flux produced by the exciter winding is not synchronized with the field winding, it produces a harmonic to be intercepted by the harmonic winding on the rotor. Eventually, the voltage produced in the harmonic winding is used to feed dc current to the field winding for brushless operation. The results obtained by 2-D finite-element analysis (FEA) validate the brushless operation of the motor. The proposed motor is analyzed basically for topology verification with the FEA results. Since the topology can be verified, further effort can be put to investigate such low-cost topologies for brushless wound rotor synchronous motor. Different topologies for brushless wound rotor synchronous machines (BL-WRSMs) have been proposed recently. This paper proposes a new model for the existing sub-harmonically excited BL-WRSM to eliminate the unbalanced radial force presented in the initial model. The initial and proposed models are analyzed using a two-dimensional finite element method. Furthermore, a variable-speed analysis for the BL-WRSM is conducted by altering the stator input current. Finally, a prototype of the proposed model is built and tested at the rated speed, to compare its performance with that of the conventional WRSM. This paper proposes an inverter scheme to generate an additional third-harmonic component alongside the fundamental component of the current. The generated third-harmonic component is used to achieve the brushless operation in a wound field synchronous machine (WFSM). Contrary to the traditional schemes used, i.e., dual inverter, single inverter with extra switches schemes, and single inverter with four transistor legs, the proposed scheme comprises a single inverter with three transistor legs that utilizes a modified third-harmonic injection pulse-width modulation. The brushless operation in WFSM requires two windings on the rotor periphery, i.e., harmonic winding and field winding that are interconnected through a rotating diode bridge rectifier. To maximize the usage of generated third-harmonic component, the selection of pole–slot combinations of the machine is carried out considering the winding factors. Numerous industrial facilities involve the installation of load transformers with their respective loads. As these loads are engaged and disengaged, their transformers are also energized and de-energized, respectively. An inrush current, which typically occurs when a transformer is energized, can easily be observed for an online uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system feeding such loads. This paper proposes an online UPS system that eliminates the inrush current phenomenon caused by the switching-in of the load transformers. The UPS inverter specifically utilizes a fast acting current control scheme which enables it to regulate the load current during all energizing conditions of the load transformer connected to the UPS system. Numerous critical load applications rely upon a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply system to maintain power during outages as well as during under- and over-voltage utility conditions. When any disturbance occurs at the utility side, the line-interactive uninterruptible power supply system takes over the load within a few milliseconds to avoid interruption. However, during this transition of load, a significant inrush current occurs due to the magnetic saturation of the load transformer. The inrush current phenomenon causes reduced line voltages and sometimes activates the over-current protection of the uninterruptible power supply system. This article proposes a new line-interactive uninterruptible power supply system that eliminates the inrush current phenomenon by connecting a standard current-regulated voltage source inverter to the secondary of the load transformer. During any transient condition at the utility side, the load current is monitored and regulated to achieve a seamless compensation or transition of load. Experimental results are obtained for a prototype during a number of possible irregular utility power conditions to endorse the performance of the proposed uninterruptible power supply system. Numerous industrial applications involve loads that are very sensitive to electrical supply instabilities. These instances involve various types of voltage imbalances as well as more serious disturbances such as symmetrical and asymmetrical faults. This paper proposes a cost-effective voltage imbalance and asymmetrical fault correction solution for the three phase sensitive loads utilizing an industry-standard current regulated voltage source inverter by connecting it in parallel to the grid mains powering to the sensitive load. The inverter regulates the current for the load and never permits it to go beyond a prescribed value under any type of asymmetrical fault condition, which ensures high power regulating and conditioning capacities. This paper proposes a novel brushless excitation topology for a three-phase synchronous machine based on a customary current-controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). The inverter employs a simple hysteresis-controller-based current control scheme that enables it to inject a three-phase armature current to the stator winding which contains a dc offset. This dc offset generates an additional air gap magneto-motive force (MMF). On the rotor side, an additional harmonic winding is mounted to harness the harmonic power from the air gap flux. Since a third harmonic flux is generated in this type of topology, the machine structure is also modified to accommodate the third harmonic rotor winding to have a voltage induced as the rotor rotates at synchronous speed. Specifically, four-pole armature and field winding patterns are used, whereas the harmonic winding is configured for a twelve-pole pattern. A diode rectifier is also mounted on the rotor between the harmonic and field windings. Therefore, the generated voltage on the harmonic winding feeds the current to the field winding for excitation. A 2D-finite element analysis (FEA) in JMAG-Designer was carried out for performance evaluation and verification of the topology. The simulation results are consistent with the proposed theory. This paper discusses the design and analysis of a high-harmonic injection-based field excitation scheme for the brushless operation of wound field synchronous machines (WFSMs) in order to achieve a higher efficiency. The proposed scheme involves two inverters. One of these inverters provides the three-phase fundamental-harmonic current to the armature winding, whereas the second inverter injects the single-phase high-harmonic i.e., 6th harmonic current in this case, to the neutral-point of the Y-connected armature winding. The injection of the high-harmonic current in the armature winding develops the high-harmonic magnetomotive force (MMF) in the air gap of the machine beside the fundamental. The high-harmonic MMF induces the harmonic current in the excitation winding of the rotor, whereas the fundamental MMF develops the main armature field. The harmonic current is rectified to inject the direct current (DC) into the main rotor field winding. The main armature and rotor fields, when interacting with each other, produce torque. Finite element analysis (FEA) is carried out in order to develop a 4-pole 24-slot machine and investigate it using a 6th harmonic current injection for the rotor field excitation to both attain a brushless operation and analyze its electromagnetic performance. This paper presents a new high-efficient three-phase brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (BL-WRSM) based on a sub-harmonic field excitation technique. In the proposed machine topology, the stator is equipped with two different three-phase windings: (1) main armature winding, and (2) additional armature winding. The main armature winding is based on a 4-pole winding configuration, whereas the additional armature winding is based on a 2-pole winding configuration. Both windings are supplied current from two different inverters, i.e., inverter-1, inverter-2, and simultaneously. Inverter-1 provides the regular input current to the main armature winding, whereas inverter-2 provides a three-phase current of low magnitude to the 2-pole additional armature winding. This generates an additional sub-harmonic component of MMF in the airgap beside the fundamental MMF. On the other side, the rotor is equipped with (1) harmonic, and (2) field windings. These windings are electrically coupled via a rectifier. The fundamental component of MMF produces the main rotating magnetic field, whereas the sub-harmonic MMF gets induced in the harmonic winding to produce harmonic current. This current is rectified to give DC to the rotor field winding to attain brushless operation. To authenticate the operation and analyze its performance, the proposed BL-WRSM topology is supported using 2-D finite element analysis (FEA) in JMAG-Designer. In an open-winding machine, three-phase stator currents can be controlled such that the input armature currents may contain the third-harmonic current component in addition to the fundamental. Considering this attribute of open-winding patterns, a harmonic current field excitation technique for a wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) is proposed in this paper based on the control of time-harmonic magneto-motive force. Two inverters connected to both terminals of the stator winding are controlled so that the input armature current generates an additional third-harmonic current component. This third-harmonic component generates a vibrating magnetic field that induces a current in the specially designed rotor harmonic winding. The current is supplied as DC current to the rotor excitation winding to generate a rotor field by using a full-bridge diode rectifier in order to achieve brushless operation. This manuscript discusses a novel harmonic current excitation technique for a wound rotor synchronous machine based on control of the time harmonic magneto-motive force (MMF) for brushless operation. Two inverters are used to feed the armature winding in such a way that at a time, one inverter supplies the current to armature winding. The two inverters are 180° phase-shifted. The inverter assignment is based on time-division multiplexing technique to generate continuous armature currents containing reasonable third-harmonic component beside fundamental component. FACTS tools in modern power systems provide a vital solution to the problems of voltage deviation and fault ride-through (FRT) capability in electrical power systems especially during the integration of wind power. Many distinct journals highlight that the wind-driven squirrel cage generator (SCIG) still accounts for around 15% of operating wind generators so far. To enhance voltage stability and FRT capacity, this paper recommends a cost-effective static VAR compensator (SVC) which has a size rating of six MVAR, and this improves the efficiency of the electrical power system. Different events are considered in this study such as high turbulent wind speed, low turbulent wind speed, unsymmetrical faults, and symmetrical faults to validate the suggested option. Moreover, the suggested solution is compared with the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and a fixed capacitor to ensure that during the studied wind speed profiles and faults, voltage stability, reactive power consumption, and FRT capability are realized. An overall comparison among them is performed under all studied scenarios to summarize their benefits and impacts. The simulated results show the effectiveness and superiority of SVC in improving the operation of an integrated wind system based on a grid-linked SCIG and the performance of the power system. This paper suggests a method to improve the performances of the Dual Stator Axial Flux Spoke-type Permanent Magnet (DSAFSPM) machines with phase group concentrated coil (PGCC) windings, by incorporating continuous and discrete step-skewing along with a special winding connection. The purpose of the study is to mitigate the cogging torque and torque ripples while increasing the output torque so it ameliorates the machine performance at minimum cost for various applications such as wind power plants and electric vehicles (EVs). Cogging torque produces noise and vibrations which degrade the machine's performance and reduces its life span. The proposed winding sequence enhances the output torque by improving its distribution factor along with the use of continuous skew and step-skew magnets. This research work improved the cogging torque and torque ripples with the help of skew techniques while output torque is increased by the proposed winding sequence. Further harmonics and ripples are also mitigated by the proposed winding sequence. The overall machine volume is kept constant along with the magnet size and the design parameters for fair performance analysis. Comparative analysis of these machines is performed using three-dimensional (3-D) time-stepped finite element analysis (FEA). Proposed model I and proposed model II reduce the harmonics by 42% and 23%, respectively. By using continuous skew and discrete step-skew magnets, cogging torque is reduced up to 81.5% and 75%, respectively. This reduction in cogging torque reduces the noise and vibration in machines which assists the machines to perform a smooth operation. Coronary heart disease is one of the major causes of deaths around the globe. Predicating a heart disease is one of the most challenging tasks in the field of clinical data analysis. Machine learning (ML) is useful in diagnostic assistance in terms of decision making and prediction on the basis of the data produced by healthcare sector globally. We have also perceived ML techniques employed in the medical field of disease prediction. In this regard, numerous research studies have been shown on heart disease prediction using an ML classifier. In this paper, we used eleven ML classifiers to identify key features, which improved the predictability of heart disease. To introduce the prediction model, various feature combinations and well-known classification algorithms were used. We achieved 95% accuracy with gradient boosted trees and multilayer perceptron in the heart disease prediction model. DC–DC converters has significant role in the applied power electronic systems, distributed power systems, computers, home appliances and communication equipment. A converter must remain within the specified range of operation. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the nonlinear behavior of forward converter and highlighted the application of the 0-1 test by applying it on the forward converter. As forward converter may contains electronic components, which cause instability in the system. So, it is necessary to understand its behavior when specifications of components are changed. To study chaotic behavior, 0-1 test will be applied on the forward converter, which is a novel technique outperform in unearthing the subtle chaotic behavior in deterministic dynamical systems. The forward converter goes from period-1, period-2, period-4 and finally become chaotic when the load resistance is varied. This variation in the behavior of the forward converter are analysis through 0-1 test for chaos. This paper presents a proposed model of a multi-stack slotted stator axial-flux type permanent magnet synchronous machine (AFPMSM) specifically for reducing torque ripple. The proposed AFPMSM model uses pentagon-shaped permanent magnets (PMs). It has a low value of cogging torque and torque ripples compared to the conventional model with a trapezoidal magnet shape. Additionally, it has increased internal generated voltage (Ef) as compared to the conventional model. To further enhance Ef phases and minimize cogging torque of the proposed model, the proposed AFPMSM model was optimized by varying different sides of PMs using a genetic algorithm (GA). A time-stepped three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) was performed for the comparative analysis of conventional, proposed, and optimized AFPMSM models. From this comparative performance analysis, it is observed that torque ripples and cogging torque of the optimized AFPMSM are significantly decreased, while output average torque is appreciably increased. Islanding detection has become one of the important events in power system that is to be detected precisely. This study introduces a single-parameter-based passive technique for islanding detection which has zero nondetection zone without involvement of any signal processing tool. The proposed technique is tested for various islanding and nonislanding events. The simulation results prove that the suggested technique detects islanding event accurately and it is capable of distinguishing islanding and nonislanding events by an economical and simpler method. This paper studies the effect of permanent magnet shape on the performance and efficiency of coreless axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) for low-speed applications. The objective of this study was to come up with an optimal magnet shape among the studied cases that will lead to the highest value of induced EMF, eventually leading to the better output power of the machine. According to the obtained results, a coreless AFPMSG with a triangular magnet shape has higher induced EMF as compared to trapezoidal or skewed-shaped magnets. Distributed generation connected with AC, DC, or hybrid loads and energy storage systems is known as a microgrid. Campus microgrids are an important load type. A university campus microgrids, usually, contains distributed generation resources, energy storage, and electric vehicles. The main aim of the microgrid is to provide sustainable, economical energy, and a reliable system. The advanced energy management system (AEMS) provides a smooth energy flow to the microgrid. Integration of renewable energy resources and conventional grids leads to an increase in power quality issues. These power quality issues require different standards to be followed for accurate measurement and monitoring of various parameters of the power system. Conventional power quality analyzers (PQAs) are programmed to a particular standard and cannot be reconfigured by the end user. Therefore, conventional PQAs cannot meet the challenges of a rapidly changing grid. In this regard, a Compact RIO-based (CRIO-based) PQA was proposed, that can be easily reprogrammed and cope with the challenges faced by conventional PQAs. The salient features of the proposed PQA are a high processing speed, interactive interface, and high-quality data-storage capacity. Moreover, unlike conventional PQAs, the proposed PQA can be monitored remotely via the internet. In this research, a hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulation is used for performing the power-quality assessment in a systematic manner. In this paper, a hexagonal magnet shape is proposed to have an arc profile capable of reducing torque ripples resulting from cogging torque in a single-sided axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machine. The arc-shaped permanent magnet increases the air-gap length effectively and makes the flux of the air-gap more sinusoidal, which decreases air-gap flux density and hence causes a reduction in cogging torque. Cogging torque is the basic source of vibration, along with the noise in PM machines, since it is the main cause of torque ripples. Cogging torque is independent of the load current and is proportional to the air-gap flux and the reluctance variation. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) is used in the JMAG-Designer to analyze the performance of the conventional and proposed hexagonal-shaped PM AFPM machines. The proposed shape is designed to reduce cogging torque, and the voltage remains the same as compared to the conventional hexagonal-shaped PM machine.
