Understanding elastic properties of reservoir rocks is essential for seismic modeling under different saturation conditions as well as lithology discrimination. Experiments on elastic properties of limestones are significantly less published compared to siliciclastic sedimentary rocks. The current study presents the results of laboratory measurements on Pannonian Basin limestone cores. The research was carried out for the first time for a hydrocarbon reservoir in the Bjelovar Depression, located in the southern part of the Pannonian Basin. Ultrasonic velocity measurements and determination of dynamic elastic properties were performed on limestone plugs, in dry and saturated condition under different confining pressure steps. Based on the results obtained in laboratory conditions, an empirical relationship between shear wave velocity (Vs) and compressional wave velocity (Vp) has been defined. The saturated samples show an effect of shear modulus weakening, while three samples have a shear modulus strengthening effect. Two models were used in the interpretation of the measured data, the Kuster and Toksöz and the Xu-Payne model. The results show that the Xu-Payne model describes the data well and the dominant pore type system in the limestone samples can been identified. The interpretation revealed an interparticle pore system with a fraction of microcracks from 20% to 35%. The results have helped to understand the elastic properties of limestones from the southern part of the Pannonian Basin, which are necessary for any process of reservoir characterization, such as porosity distribution and permeability variation.

There are no known troglobiotic hymenopterans, although a few species regularly occur in caves, usually for an inactive phase of their life-cycles. During a recent faunistical survey of the invertebrate fauna of Bakony Mountains’ caves (Hungary) several Hymenoptera specimens were collected in hypogean environments. In this paper we report the results of the survey regarding Hymenoptera. Although the Hymenoptera material was small in numbers, they provided valuable faunistical data: very rare or rarely collected species were found, and 5 taxa are first reported from hypogean environment. Aclastus longicauda Horstmann (Ichneumonidae: Cryptinae) was found new to the Hungarian fauna, considerably extending the distributional area of this species that has been known only from Northern Europe so far. Our local results clearly indicate that, both at local and world-wide level, research focusing on the usually overlooked Hymenoptera fauna of caves will certainly provide valuable faunistical, distributional and biogeographical data.

Examining cave samples from the Bakony Museum of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Hungary two pseudoscorpion species were found; Chthonius ressli Beier, 1956 and Neobisium carcinoides (Hermann, 1804). C. ressli is new to the pseudoscorpion fauna of Hungary. The morphological characters of the specimens found are discussed in detail and drawings of the C. ressli specimens are given.

The coleopterous fauna was investigated from the surroundings of Réde between 2011-2017. Methods of research were the following: traps baited with red wine and bananas, pitfall trapping, sweep¬netting, observations in the field. 110 pitfall trap samples were collected in several habitat types (beech forest, oak forest, acacia grove, pine forest, meadows, moorish habitat, riparian willow and alder) of 11 localities. Six Natura 2000 species (Lucanus cervus (Linnaeus, 1758), Cerambyx cerdo Linnaeus, 1758, Morimus funereus Mulsant, 1863, Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758), Limoniscus violaceus (P.W.J. Müller, 1821), Cucujus cinnaberinus (Scopoli, 1763)) are present among the 31 protected beetle species. The collected material includes 2 rare species Neoplinthus porcatus (Panzer, 1798), Bembidion elongatum (Dejan, 1831), comments about these are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Epigeic spider (Araneae) fauna was studied in three vineyards with different types of cultivation on Szent György hill (Hegymagas, Balaton uplands), Hungary. The first vineyard was cultivated organically, the second one traditionally, where the pest management was based on broad-spectrum pesticides, while the third vineyard had been abandoned for three years. The sampling was carried out over two years (2006-2007), at monthly intervals from April to November, using 10 pitfall traps at each site. Altogether 95 spider species from 21 families were collected in the three vineyards, among which three (Talavera aperta, Zelotes exiguus and Ozyptila sanctuaria) is regarded as rare in Hungary. Our results showed that organic cultivation had a positive effect on the abundance, species richness and diversity of the epigeic spider assemblage compared to the other two vineyards. The organic and the traditionally cultivated vineyards have more natural and diverse spider assemblages and were more similar to each other in regard to species composition and dominance than to the abandoned plantation. Our list of the investigated area (200 ha) includes 136 protected and rare species, among these 115 are protected by national law. The distribution of the protected species between the main taxonomic groups: 1 fungus, 8 vascular plants, 70 vertebrate and 36 invertebrate animals. Here we have found eleven Natura 2000 indicator species: Lucanus cervus, Cucujus cinnaberinus, Morimus, funereus, Rosalia alpina, Myotis myotis, Myotis bechsteinii, Picus canus, Dryocopus martius, Dendrocopos medius, Ficedula albicollis, Lanius collurio. We had a few literature data from the Pintér Hill, so the list of this area was established by the researchers of the Bakony Museum of the Hungarian Natural History Museum and by the actual investigations. We examined two apple orchards in Bakony, at Hárskút and Bakonyszombathely, that differed in almost all respects. Cultivation at the small-scale Hárskút orchard was discontinued a long time ago. By contrast, at Bakonyszombathely, large-scale commercial cultivation is ongoing, and the orchard is located on sandy plains. We took specimens from pitfall traps at Hárskút between 2002 and 2005, and at Bakonyszombathely between 2009 and 2010. Altogether we found 40 types of spiders at the two examined orchards: 24 distinct types at Bakonyszombathely and 24 at Hárskút. The species composition from Bakonyszombathely, despite the fact that in the sampling year the site was under cultivation, mostly reflects the sandy character of the land, rather than the agrobiont spiders. We did not establish/detect differences between specimens from the two separate places we sampled at Hárskút, although collectively the species composition we found at those two sites differed markedly from those found at Bakonyszombathely. Faunistic studies were carried out in the oak forests of Zánka between 2011 and 2013 focused on saproxylic beetles. The investigated forests are managed with single-tree selection. Collecting methods included pitfall traps, window traps, bottle traps baited with wine and banana, sweeping and sifting. A total of 192 species were listed from oak forests of Zánka, belonging to the following beetle families: Carabidae, Silphidae, Staphylinidae, Lucanidae, Geotrupidae, Scarabaeidae, Buprestidae, Eucnemidae, Elateridae, Dermestidae, Anobiidae, Cleridae, Cucujidae, Ripiphoridae, Zopheridae, Tenebrionidae, Meloidae, Cerambycidae, Anthribidae, Curculionidae. Four Natura 2000 species, the Greater Stag Beetle (Lucanus cervus), the Great Capricorn Beetle (Cerambyx cerdo), the Mourning Long-horned Beetle (Morimus funereus) and the Flat Bark Beetle (Cucujus cinnaberinus) are present among the 30 protected beetle species.
