We propose a novel methane sensor based on sensing without detection. First used in quantum imaging, this technique relies on the interference effects seen in three wave mixing when pump signal and idler modes make a double pass through a nonlinear crystal. The method allows sensing at wavelengths where detectors are poor and detecting at wavelengths where photon counting sensitivity can be achieved. This compact interferometer, potentially set in a portable device for field operations, could allow the detection of low concentrations of methane at up to 100m range. Signal-to-noise ratio calculations point out that the method's sensitivity can overcome the integrated path differential absorption direct sensing at high non-linear gain regimes., 9 pages 4 figures

Even with a small fraction of this known biodiversity, it is estimated that the wealth of the Amazon flora comprises approximately 30,000 species, about 10% of plants from all over the planet. Hoeing inchi is a species native to the Amazon and with great potential for use in famac??utica and cosmetic industry, because it has high content of unsaturated fatty acids mono and polyunsaturated the oil extracted from its seed. However, despite several studies on the features and benefits of this oil are found in the literature, some information on the germination and planting need to be defined. Embrapa Western Amazon, located in the city of Manaus, has a Germplasm Bank of Plukenetia volubilis composed of several accesses. And this present work aims to study the germination process of weeding seeds inchi and to determine the best conditions of vegetative propagation in vivo and in vitro. Mesmo com uma pequena fra????o dessa biodiversidade conhecida, estima-se que a riqueza da flora Amaz??nica compreende aproximadamente 30.000 esp??cies, cerca de 10% das plantas de todo o planeta. Entre os recursos genéticos nativos da Amazônia, o cubiu (Solanum sessiliflorum Dunal) é uma espécie frutífera que foi completamente domesticada pelos povos indígenas da região antes da chegada dos europeus. É uma Solanaceae arbustiva de até 2 m de altura, adaptada aos sistemas agrícolas modernos, com potencial econômico para o agronegócio de alimentos, medicamentos e cosméticos. Nas últimas décadas, tem sido objeto de pesquisas e em fase de lançamento de novos produtos no comércio do estado de São Paulo. Das quase 200 populações de cubiu mantidas no Banco de Germoplasma do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, mais de 150 já foram caracterizadas e avaliadas. Considerando a necessidade de prosseguir nas pesquisas com vários materiais genéticos procedentes de outras regiões da Amazônia, o avanço nos estudos sobre os conhecimentos morfológicos e melhoramento genético da espécie, permitirão disponibilizar aos agricultores amazonenses novas variedades com maior potencial produtivo para agricultura regional. Para contribuir com novos resultados de pesquisas sobre a espécie, este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar populações de cubiu originárias de diferentes regiões da calha do Rio Negro, estado do Amazonas. Neste trabalho foram avaliados 30 populações de cubiu procedentes de cinco municípios localizados desde a foz, até o alto rio Negro. O experimento foi realizado em área da Estação Experimental do INPA, Manaus, AM, em solo do tipo Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo álico, textura arenosa, de baixa fertilidade. As mudas foram formadas no mês de dezembro de 2009 e aos 45 dias de idade transplantadas, em covas abertas em um espaçamento de 1,00 m x 1,50, adubadas com 2 kg de composto orgânico e 30 g de NPK (10-10-10). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso com 30 tratamentos e três repetições. A unidade experimental foi constituída por cinco plantas úteis de cada população. Dentre os resultados obtidos destacou a população SGC5 pela sua alta produtividade, produzindo em torno de 47 frutos por plantas e produtividade de 16,7 toneladas por hectare. Sendo que está população apresentou características desejáveis para uso imediato na agricultura comercial e em programa de melhoramento. Among the native genetic resources of the Amazon, cubiu (Dunal Solanum sessiliflorum) is a fruit species that has been thoroughly domesticated by the indigenous peoples of the region before the arrival of Europeans. Solanaceae is a shrub up to 2 m high, adapted to modern agricultural systems, with economic potential for agribusiness food, medicines and cosmetics. In recent decades, has been the subject of research and in the process of launching new products on the world of São Paulo. Of the almost 200 cubiu populations maintained in the genebank of the National Institute for Amazon Research, more than 150 have been characterized and evaluated. Considering the need for further research on the genetic material coming from various other regions of the Amazon, the advances in knowledge about the morphological studies and breeding of the species, will provide Amazonian farmers new varieties with higher yield potential for regional agriculture. To contribute with new research findings on the species, this study was to evaluate cubiu populations originating from different regions of the trough of the Rio Negro, Amazonas state. This study evaluated 30 cubiu populations from five municipalities located from the mouth until the upper Rio Negro. The experiment was conducted in the area of the Experimental Station of INPA, Manaus, AM, in soil type Acrisol alic, sandy soils of low fertility. Seedlings were formed in December 2009 and the 45-day-old transplanted in open pits at a spacing of 1.00 mx 1.50, fertilized with 2 kg of compost and 30 g of NPK (10-10 - 10). The experimental design was randomized blocks with 30 treatments and three repetitions. The experimental unit consisted of five useful plants of each population. Among the findings highlighted the population SGC5 for its high productivity, producing around 47 fruits per plant and yield of 16.7 tons per hectare. Auscultatory mercury sphygmomanometers to measure blood pressure (BP) have been banned from health services because of risk of pollution and environmental accidents with mercury. Aneroid appliances could be an alternative.To validate the Missouri aneroid device for blood pressure measurement in cancer patients according to the protocol of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH).33 patients hospitalized or under outpatient care at the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo, FMUSP, were evaluated. Three trained and blinded observers performed nine sequential blood pressure measurements interspersed with the mercury sphygmomanometers. The differences between the values of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of the test device with the mercury sphygmomanometer were classified according to the ESH protocol.The Missouri equipment underwent all three phases required by the ESH Protocol for SBP and DBP, and it was approved in all of the phases. The average difference between the test device and the mercury sphygmomanometer was 0.62 (SD = 4.53) and 0.06 (SD = 6.57) mmHg for SBP and DBP, respectively. No association was found between the differences in BP measurements with sex, age, body mass index and arm circumference and length.The results revealed that the aneroid Missouri device meets ESH accuracy recommendations for the measurement of SBP and DBP, and it can be used to replace the mercury sphygmomanometer.

It???s considered rustic and is well-suited for more extensive studies on the constitution of inorganic components in altered environments and how a species is affected by climate change. The aim of this work was to study the phenotypic diversity of U. lobata plants in two Amazonian environments, in an anthropogenic area of terra firme and floodplain, and to predict the distribution of the species in future scenarios resulting from climate change. In the first chapter of this thesis, the phenotypic diversity of the species was studied. Eight plants were sampled in an anthropized area of terra firme and eight from a floodplain and each plant studied were from rhizospheric soils, leaves and roots, totaling 24 per area. Analyses were performed using total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF). The groups were segmented using the hierarchical distance means method (UPGMA), graphical dispersion was performed using the Principal Coordinate Analysis Method (PCA) and non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis. A TXRF analysis detected 16 inorganic elements in soil and plant tissues. These nutrients and elements are considered potentially toxic. Utilizing statistical analysis, we grouped the plants according to the type of area studied. U. lobata presented itself as a potential phytoremediator or bioindicator of trace elements present in the areas. In the second chapter, future projections were carried out in two RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) scenarios: RCP 4.5 (average pessimistic) and RCP 8.5 (most pessimistic), in two time intervals (2020-2050 and 2051-2070). The Envelope Score algorithm best represents the species distribution. The mandatory model was used to verify the potential occurrence of U. lobata in the current and future periods in the six Brazilian biomes; Amazon, Cerrado, Caatinga, Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Pampa. The results confirm that a species is rustic and has low vulnerability in RCP 4.5. However, there was a loss of favorable area due to RCP 8.5, with a tendency to establish populations in regions at higher altitude in the Southeast and South regions of the country. The findings showed the need for conservation of populations of the species in regions that are more sensitive to occurrence, to ensure the maintenance of genetic variability. Os resultados confirmam que a esp??cie ?? r??stica e apresenta baixa vulnerabilidade no RCP 4.5, mas observou-se a perda de ??rea favor??vel consider??vel no RCP 8.5, havendo uma tend??ncia de estabelecimento de popula????es em regi??es de maior altitude das regi??es Sudeste e Sul do pa??s. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência do glyphosate no controle de plantas de vassourinha-de-botão, em diferentes estágios de crescimento. O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental do Instituto de Ciências Exatas e Tecnologia–ICET. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 5 x 4 (cinco doses crescentes do herbicida glyphosate, a saber: 0; 960, 1.920, 2.880 e 3.840 g ha-1 de e.a.; e quatro estágios de crescimento das plantas: 60, 90, 120 e 150 dias após a emergência), com 10 repetições, em que cada repetição foi representada por uma planta. As avaliações de fitotoxicidade foram feitas aos 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 e 42 dias após a aplicação do herbicida, por meio do modelo adaptado da Escala Conceitual European Weed Research Community (EWRC). Aos 42 dias após aplicação (DAE) do herbicida, na ocasião do descarte do experimento, as plantas foram cortadas rente ao solo, para medição da altura e determinação da matéria seca da parte aérea. A secagem ocorreu em estufa de circulação forçada de ar a temperatura de 60°C até as plantas atingirem peso constante. Os dados coletados foram submetidos à análise de variância pelo teste F, e suas médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, as plantas de S. verticillata estão mais susceptíveis à ação do herbicida de 60 a 90 DAE. As doses de 960, 1.920 e 2.880 g ha-1 de e.a de glyphosate aplicadas em plantas com 60 a 90 DAE controlaram 100% das plantas. Para uma maior eficiência na aplicação do herbicida, e considerando um menor gasto no controle das plantas daninhas e menor prejuízo ao meio ambiente, recomenda-se adoção da dose 960 g ha-1 de e.a. de glyphosate, aplicada em até 90 dias após a emergência de S. verticillata. In the state of Amazonas, one of the dominant weed species in native grassland areas is Spermacoce verticillata L., known in the region as button broom. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of glyphosate in the control of button broom plants, in different stages of growth. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Institute of Exact Sciences and Technology-ICET. The experimental design used was the entirely randomized, 5 x 4 factor arrangement (five growing doses of the herbicide glyphosate, namely: 0; 960, 1.920, 2.880 and 3.840 g ha-1 of e.a.; and four stages of plant growth: 60, 90, 120 and 150 days after emergence), with 10 repetitions, in which each repetition was represented by a plant. The phytotoxicity assessments were made at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days after the application of the herbicide, through the adapted model of the European Weed Research Community (EWRC) Conceptual Scale. At 42 days after application (DAE) of the herbicide, at the time of discarding the experiment, the plants were cut close to the ground, to measure the height and determine the dry matter of the aerial part. The drying took place in a forced air circulation oven at a temperature of 60°C until the plants reached constant weight. The data collected were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test, and their means compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability. According to the results obtained, the plants of S. verticillata are more susceptible to the action of the herbicide from 60 to 90 DAE. The doses of 960, 1,920 and 2,880 g ha-1 of e.a of glyphosate applied to plants with 60 to 90 DAE controlled 100% of the plants. For a greater efficiency in the application of the herbicide, and considering a lower cost in the control of the weeds and less damage to the environment, it is recommended to adopt the dose 960 g ha-1 of glyphosate e.a., applied within 90 days after the emergence of S. verticillata. 2 Sim

However, it is also a fact that the use of its assets generates income for society that depends directly or indirectly on these resources. And one of the alternatives for utilizing forest wood resources without causing major impacts on both local flora and fauna is through Sustainable Forest Management, which uses the reduced impact logging system, which aims to minimize impacts on forestry as much as possible. remaining forest. Therefore, this study aims to study how forest exploitation affects seedling bank regeneration in areas that are directly impacted by this activity, as well as verifying the situation of the physical structure of the soil in the locations of large machine movement. and wood logs. The seedling bank has been studied in three different areas, two of which were explored 10 and 20 years ago and one that has not yet been explored. The areas already explored were subdivided into four distinct environments that are directly impacted by logging, which are the logging trails, the clearings formed by the exploration of the pre-selected individuals, the stockyards and the secondary roads. Plots were installed in each environment, where individuals were measured from 50cm high to 10cm DBH (diameter at breast height). The areas and environments presented significant differences in their seedling bank densities (p???0.05) when compared to each other. The species composition in the 10 and 20 year old areas was mainly by species classified as pioneer and without commercial importance, while the unexplored area is composed by species with commercial importance or good potential. As for the soil, it tends to recover and unpack, however this is a slow process and in environments such as the stockyards it is clear that the elapsed time has not yet been able to reestablish these sites. The results showed that the forest in general has positively to the disturbances caused to them during the logging, that is, the impacts caused did not affect their ability to regenerate. The selection of superior genotypes in progeny tests is a promising alternative for obtaining seeds to produce seedlings for new plantations. The objectives of this work were to characterize the reproductive system and to estimate phenotypic variability of the progenies of the P. multijuga to identify superior genotypes. The experiment was installed at the Experimental Farm of UFAM, Manaus. For the study of the reproductive system, 14 plants of 14 progenies were sampled, totaling 182 plants. Plant material (leaves) was collected from 13 mother plants and 182 plants. We extracted plant DNA and analyzed it with 7 microsatellite loci. The estimates of genetic parameters were obtained from 14 P. multijuga progenies in a randomized complete block design. The monitoring of the plants during two years allowed obtaining estimates of genetic parameters such as heritability, accuracy and selection gain for the silvicultural characteristics height, stem diameter, crown area and absolute and relative growth rate. The analyzes were performed using the REML/BLUP model in the statistical program SELEGEM. The estimates of the cross-system parameters obtained in this study indicate that the P. multijuga is an allogama species. The 13 progenies studied were mainly represented by half-siblings, but the crosses were not random due to the occurrence of some correlated mating, resulting in some complete siblings within the progenies. The high values of accuracy indicate good experimental accuracy and show that the selection of the superior genotypes can be safely performed for absolute growth rate and relative growth rate, stem diameter and crown area evaluated in P. multijuga genotypes. The period between 28 and 34 months is the most appropriate for a single evaluation to plant height, stem diameter and crown area of the P. multijuga under the planting conditions of Central Amazonia. Because of the development of summer cultivars, new crop treatments, and the increase of protected crops, lettuce can now be found all over the country, produced all year round by small, medium and large producers. However, several environmental factors affect the growth and development of lettuce in the Amazon region, which makes cultivar tests necessary in order to adapt the crop to different regions. Due to the lack of information on the adaptation of purple lettuce cultivars to the climatic conditions of the State of Amazonas, this work aimed to evaluate the performance of purple lettuce cultivars under different seasons and cropping systems at Iranduba, AM. Four experiments were performed at Iranduba, AM, from July 2016 to January 2017, two in the dry season and two in the rainy season. The cropping systems tested were: 1 - open field and 2 ??? protected cropping (greenhouse). The area used for the open-field experiment showed flat topography, with no physical or chemical barriers against vegetable crops. The greenhouse used was made of a 30 m long, 8 m wide, 2.5 m height wooden structure covered with a 150 micras transparent plastic. The experiment was design in randomized blocks with four replicates, and the treatments featured 11 purple lettuce cultivars: Lavine (Feltrin??), Mirella (Feltrin??), Rubinela (Feltrin??), Scarlet (Sakata??), Rosabella (Tecnoseed??), Pira Roxa (Tecnoseed??), Bel??ssima (Tecnoseed??), Red Star (Topseed??), Banchu Red Fire (Takii Seed??), Vermelha Rouge (Sakama??) and Rubia (Horticeres??). The cultivars were evaluated in terms of fresh mass of the aerial part, leaf dry mass, plant height, number of commercial leaves, stem length, and diameter of the aerial part. At the open field, none of the evaluated cultivars were able to develop in the rainy season, while in the dry season the cultivars that had the highest fresh mass of aerial part and dry mass of leaves were: Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella and Scarlet. At the greenhouse, the Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella, and Scarlet cultivars showed the highest rates for fresh mass of aerial part and dry leaf mass. Their dry leaf mass was larger in the rainy season than in the dry season. The Lavine cultivar showed the highest stem length and plant height under both cropping systems, and was higher in the dry season than in the rainy season. The comparison between the cropping systems in the dry season showed that purple lettuce crops under open-field conditions yield less than under protected cropping. The conclusion is that the Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella, and Scarlet cultivars showed the best growth parameters at the greenhouse during both seasons, and at the open field during the dry season, which makes them the most adequate choice for crops at the study region. Entretanto, diversos fatores ambientais afetam o crescimento e desenvolvimento da alface na regi??o amaz??nica, o que torna necess??ria a realiza????o de testes de cultivares visando ?? adapta????o a diferentes ambientes de cultivo. Diante da escassez de informa????es sobre a adapta????o de cultivares de alface roxa ??s condi????es clim??ticas do Estado do Amazonas, este trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho de cultivares de alface crespa roxa em diferentes ??pocas e ambientes de cultivo no munic??pio de Iranduba, AM. Foram conduzidos quatro experimentos no munic??pio de Iranduba, AM, no per??odo de julho de 2016 a janeiro de 2017, dois na esta????o seca e dois na esta????o chuvosa. Os ambientes de cultivo utilizados foram: 1 ??? campo aberto e 2 ??? cultivo protegido. A ??rea de cultivo em campo aberto apresentou topografia plana, sem nenhum tipo de impedimento f??sico ou qu??mico ao cultivo de hortali??as. A casa-de-vegeta????o utilizada foi do tipo ???capela???, feita de estrutura de madeira com 30 m de comprimento, 8 m de largura, p??-direito de 2,5 m, coberta com pl??stico transparente de 150 micras. As cultivares foram avaliadas quanto a massa fresca da parte a??rea, massa seca das folhas, altura das plantas, n??mero de folhas comercializ??veis, comprimento do caule e di??metro da parte a??rea. No cultivo em campo aberto, ao comparar as cultivares na esta????o seca e chuvosa, verificou-se que nenhuma das cultivares avaliadas conseguiu se desenvolver na esta????o chuvosa, enquanto, na esta????o seca, as cultivares que tiveram maior massa fresca da parte a??rea e massa seca de folhas foram: Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella e Scarlet. No cultivo em ambiente protegido, ao comparar as cultivares na esta????o seca e chuvosa, verificou-se que as cultivares Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella e Scarlet foram as que tiveram maior massa fresca da parte a??rea e massa seca de folhas, com as m??dias da massa seca de folhas maiores na esta????o chuvosa. A cultivar Lavine foi a que apresentou maior comprimento de caule e altura da planta nos dois sistemas de cultivo, sendo maior na esta????o seca do que na chuvosa. Ao comparar os sistemas de cultivo na esta????o seca, observou-se que o cultivo da alface crespa roxa em campo aberto proporcionou menor produ????o que o cultivo protegido em casa-de-vegeta????o. Conclui-se que as cultivares Banchu Red Fire, Rosabella e Scarlet apresentaram os melhores par??metros de crescimento no cultivo em casa-de-vegeta????o nas duas ??pocas e em campo aberto na esta????o seca, sendo, portanto, as mais indicadas para o cultivo na regi??o.
