Modern technology has brought electronic books (e-books) to the readers which are now very useful due to space constraint as well as budgetary constraint. So, now a days, academic libraries gradually prefer e-books to print books for academic and research purposes. St. Xavier’s College Central Library is also following the same path by acquiring e-books from several vendors. The e-book vendors provide MARC records either through their official website or as per our requirement, which can be easily downloadable for integration into its Koha LMS. This paper will highlight the step by step integration process of bulk MARC records of e-books into Koha LMS. It also discusses the benefits arising out of this integration process, such as single window search facility i.e. printed books as well as e-books in the same user interface and it also discusses the types of probems faced during the integration process and their way-out to overcome.

Web 2.0 technology provides interaction between the library and its clientele in a very convenient way. The present paper describes the changing requirements of modern integrated library management software (ILMS) to fulfil the increasing user needs with the help of web 2.0 technology. It highlights various user friendly services that can be made available for the benefit of the user community as well as for the improvement of library management software quality. It describes the use of various web 2.0 enabled tools like blogs, RSS feed, etc. in Koha ILMS with special emphasis on St. Xavier’s College Central Library.

Reference service is always a vital component in library service; it provides personalized assistance to the users to access up-to-date information. Due to the emerging trend of virtual library and influence of web technology, the concept of traditional reference service has switched over into digital reference service (DRS) using e-reference resources. This paper highlights some of the basic aspects of digital reference services, how the reference librarian of St Xavier’s College provides digital reference service and finally user’s satisfaction using digital reference services.

Distance Education Bureau of University Grants Commission emphasizes on infrastructural facilities for the learners, and faculty members. It encompasses setting up and maintaining of separate library and resource centre. With the help of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) it is now a feature of every open and distance learning institutions to provide library services to its learners in an effective and efficient way. The role of the library is vital in all types of education - conventional as well as distance mode. This paper discusses how Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) library provides innovative ICT based library services like RATE service; e-Gyankosh etc for the user community to access all subscribed online resources and databases from remote end. It also describes National Open and Distance Learners' Library and Information Network (NODLINET). NODLINET has a nationwide coverage for distance learning libraries. It helps in sharing resourses and services. This paper also highlights various other initiatives taken by the library like Discovery services, A-to -Z service, M-Library services, Mobile Augmented Reality service etc.

Locating relevant information in time is critical for both the researcher and the information professional. Electronic books (eBooks) are used to enhance the digital library with 24 x 365 days global access and it enables users to quickly retrieve and access specific research material efficiently and effectively. The article highlights advantages, disadvantages of eBooks, various formats of eBooks and how users of St. Xavier’s College Central Library use eBooks using iOS devices for research and advanced learning.

Data migration is a process of transferring data from existing system to another system and it is divided into two processes: (a) extracting data from an existing system into an extracted file and (b) loading data from extracted file into the new system. Before data migration procedure first you check the database structure and tables of the koha software. After checking the data format, collect data from the libsys software. It includes bibliographical details of the documents, items details, transaction records and patron details. Then using MarcEdit software collected data has been formatted as per the koha software data base structure. Using koha’s data import facility data are uploaded to koha database. Last and most important step is the checking data consistency. This step completes the data migration procedure and certified the koha to be run independently. In this paper we tried to explain the step by step method of bibliographic data migration from libsys to koha, checking data consistency and the problems faced during data migration

St. Xavier’s College Central Library has installed Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology based kiosk for self circulation through open source library management software KOHA. This technology is also improved library annual stock taking, ensure foolproof security and access control i.e. circulation management. This articles briefly describes why our library switch over from barcode based circulation to RFID based circulation, SWOT analysis of RFID technology, self-circulation using RFID technology, types of problem faced during implementation of the new technology and possible remedies. Lastly, the conclusions are drawn based on SWOT analysis.

Institutional repository at INFLIBNET (IR@INFLIBNET) is an open access initiative taken by INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) centre where staff members can deposit their own research articles. Here we can find articles published in all conventional proceedings of INFLIBNET centre, various training material, press clippings, news letters etc. For this study author selected the INFLIBNET’s Institutional Repository. The data consists of year wise total collections, community wise collections, major contributors and subject wise major collection. Statistical tools like tabular presentation are used to represent the study effectively. This paper will highlight the initiative taken up by the INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) centre in building up the Institutional Repository by using the open source software Dspace.

The paper comparatively evaluates open source library management software Koha (3.14) and proprietary library automation software LibSys4 for understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the two packages. Circulation module is evaluated in detail. The study is based on the day to day experiences gathered from using the two software in St Xavier’s College Central Library. Study found that Koha software has an extremely user-friendly interface and is cost effective which is challenge to the traditional LMS software like LibSys.

Learner support services are the most vital component of any open and distance learning (ODL) system. It includes wide range of academic and other related activities. The support services should not only be responsive to the needs of the distance learners but should also be accessible. Monitoring of the support services has to be a continuous and ongoing exercise, which could bring constant improvement through innovations in the support services. This paper analyzes the aim of learner support services, various categories of learner support services, how far Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has providing interactive support services at the study centres, staff responsibility for providing the services, ICT facilities and equipment at the study centres, mode of service delivery and monitoring mechanism to ensure effective student support services.

Intellectual property refers to the ownership of intangible goods. This includes ideas, designs, symbols, writings and creations. It also refers to digital media such as audio and video clips that can be downloaded online. Since intellectual property is intangible, if it is stolen, it may be difficult to recover. Say for example, a person comes up with a great idea for a new invention. Copyright originated in an age where the expression of the intellectual product in physical form, such as a book. Today, in the information age where digital information can be easily copied at minimal cost this natural physical limitation to unauthorized copying is removed. It is therefore time to reconsider the principle of the copyright model. The purpose of copyright law is to balance the rights of copyright holders and users. Existing copyright law is applicable in the digital age also. As more and more information becomes available in digital format, libraries must be ensure that public can enjoy the same access rights as with printed information. This paper deals with scope and coverage of various concepts connected with IPR, such as intellectual product, patents, copyright, designs, trademarks, computer software, databases, Internet and cyber laws.
