By using a mixed-ligand approach, a Co(II) coordination polymer (CP) with the chemical formula of [Co(L)(ip)·H2O]n (1, L = 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)-2-propanol, H2ip = isophthalic acid) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Furthermore, to develop new candidates for cancer treatment, the treatment effect of the compound on the human cervical carcinoma cell line Hela was evaluated. First, the autophagy level of the Hela cell line after compound treatment was measured by flow cytometry. Solvothermal reactions of 5-methylisophthalic acid (H2mipa) with 1,4-bis(imidazol-1ylmethyl)benzene (1,4-bib) or 1,3-bis(imidazol-1ylmethyl)benzene (1,3-bib) in the presence of Co(NO3)2·6H2O in a mixed solvent of H2O/DMF yielded two new coordination polymers, namely, [Co2(mipa)(1,4-bib)](H2O) (1) and [Co3(Hmipa)2(mipa)2(1,3-bib)](H2tba)(H2O)2 (2). These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and X-ray single-crystal diffraction, which reveals that complex 1 is mutually interpenetrated each other to form 3D+3D⟶3D interpenetrated framework with crs/dia-e topology, and complex 2 is constructed from the trinuclear [Co3(COO)6] unit connected by tbip ligands to form 1D structures which were extended to form 2D structures by neutral ligands. Furthermore, the anti-ovarian cancer activity of the two coordination complexes has been evaluated via the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and western blot assay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
