vol. 76 no. 15, Last Friday the faculty presented a check for $5,000 to the United Fund Drive. On behalf of the faculty, Dr. Robert V. Guthrie, center, presented the donation to Quintin Hicks, left, representing the United Fund. The faculty drew this money from a fund they set aside by deducting a certain percentage monthly from their pay checks. Money from this fund also is used for other worthy projects. Head of arrangements from the disbursement of this fund is David Readdick, shown at the above right. Other members of the committee include Rev. Francis Luce and Dr. Derrell Roberts. This fund began in the days when the late Ludd M. Spivey, president emeritus of Florida Southern, was in office. This year the donation to the United Fund increased by $200 over last year's $4,800. vol. 76 no. 10, Cheerleaders catching coins in a blanket for the campus TB drive at Friday night's benefit intra-squad basketball game are, left to right, Sandi Vodvarka, Paula Whan, head cheerleader; Barbie Hamm and Peggy Cozens. Although the game itself was sponsored by the senate and the athletic department to purchase a movie camera and photographic equipment, students also contributed to the campaign which began last Thursday night with the annual TB kick-off jam session. The drive began yesterday with free X-rays given to students and faculty members in the morning and the annial kick-off jam session last night on the C.T. patio. The final event will be the annual Christmas Concert by the concert band, Dec. 9. (p. 1) -- Taking top honors in the Greek Week display competition was the above exhibit by Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Theta Chi fraternity. vol. 76 no. 24, Editors of The Southern and The Interlachen, Charley Wilhelm and Sandi Vodvarka, have been elected to receive the Pi Delta Epsilon Medal of Merit Awards for 1963. Awarded annually by each chapter of the national collegiate journalism honorary, the medals are given to students for outstanding work in student publications. (p. 1). Sand, Sun and Sunburn! (p. 2). The courts are raised and landscaped to fit harmoniously with the area between the girls' dormitories and the ROTC building. The Junior Adviser program, a project of the Women's Student Government Association, trains girls for there dormitory counseling positions, given only to a few girls chosen in a process of screening and interviews. Chunkie Paschall, 1962's Sigma Chi Derby Queen, is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is a finalist in this year's Miss Interlachen contest, in addition to being a contestant in the Miss Lakeland contest. A sophomore, Chunkie is from St. Petersburg. (p. 3). A new staff member is assistant librarian, Hsiao Hsien Jen. He is shown arranging a book display in the E. T. Roux Library. Born in Shanghai, he later moved with his family to Formosa. He is a graduate of the National Taiwan University in his homeland, and holds a master's degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. A specialist in library science, he worked for two years in the Cincinnati Public Library before coming here. (p. 3)., 1-4

The case, dedicated to the memory of Stamison, former SGA vice president, was presented officially to the college at last Thursday's honors chapel by Tom Ritzie, current Sig Ep president. vol. 76 no. 7, Highlighting last year's Greek Week was the coronation of Barbie Hamm and Blaine Ballentyne Southern's first Greek god and goddess. This year, Greek Week has been set for Nov. 1-4 and will feature a concert by The Four Saints Friday night. (p. 1) -- The American Folk Trio scheduled to perform Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel includes, left to right, Lee Kahn, Sonja Savig and Dave Sears. A part of the college's cultural series, the concert is open to the public with no admission charge. The trio will present a variety of American and European folk music. (p. 1). Sebring??? (p. 2). Feminine fashions for this fall include classics in both casual and classroom wear. Foremost colors of the season are the greens, browns and golds.
