4. The Use of the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery for People Born with Down Syndrome and Those Born Premature: A Comparative Systematic Review

Abstract

This review aimed to investigate the use of the Cambridge Neuropsychological Automated Testing Battery (CANTAB) for people at risk of cognitive impairment, especially those born with Down syndrome and those born preterm. Six databases were searched according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards, in addition to the bibliography index listed in the CANTAB site. Twenty four studies regarding Down syndrome and 17 regarding prematurity were reviewed and are here described. Both cognitive profiles were described, and their performance was compared on specific tasks and CANTAB tests. In this battery of tests, people with Down syndrome usually present impaired key cognitive domains, such as episodic memory and recognition memory. Results were presented considering general aspects described in the studies, specific findings such as dementia, the role of genetics, and cognitive profile, among other descriptions. Comparability between both populations in future studies is discussed.

25. Babies' Transition between Family and Early Childhood Education and Care: A Mosaic of Discourses about Quality of Services

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the quality of early childhood education and care in Brazil and the process of infants' and toddlers' "Inserimento" to daycare. The theoretical framework of our arguments is based on the notion of quality of child education as a negotiated concept, and by the Italian concept of "Inserimento." The methodology is based on the Mosaic Approach, a participative method to listen to young children. As part of the methodology, we participated in the "inserimento" process in five municipalities in southeastern Brazil, from 2016 and 2020. Data analysis was based on the pedagogy of listening and on studies on gender and racial relationships. The results show how laws, normative documents, family expectations, planning and routine of childhood education, available toys, space, babies, families, and professionals creates a complex mosaic of discourses about what constitutes the quality of childhood education in the babies' first days in daycare centers.

33. Tecnodiscursos subversivos. Militantismo digital no contexto da pandemia da covid-19

Abstract

In the framework of the coronavirus pandemic, aroused different activisms crossed by the digital in a relationship of support/conflict with the mass media in the face of government measures to control the outbreaks. When investigating the new modes of socio-political participation, the study focuses on a practice of urban activism attached to the logic of techno-discourse (Paveau, 2021a) to understand the functioning of a subversive discourse materialized in militant posters with the sayings #YoMeQuedoSinCasa (Barcelona, May/2020). The case was analyzed in relation to the techno-discourses that it subverts: the government propaganda #QuedaTeEnCasa and the massive response, #YoMeQuedoEnCasa, a virtuous techno-discourses (Paveau, 2015). Based on the theory of resignification (Paveau, 2021a) —about the technodiscursive practices of subversive repetition via web 2.0— the study reflects on the militantism of the hybrid world (Castells, 2017) and analyzes the aspects of pragmatic, interactional, enunciative, semantic-axiological, discursive, socio-semantic and political pragmatic of that discourse. It is concluded that the case of activism is anchored in techno-discourses (Paveau, 2021b) to produce a resignified discourse with revolutionary features, because by subverting massive techno-discourses, it strips its virtuosity, exposing a social wound of state negligence and allows it to produce both resistance and demands repair., No marco da pandemia do coronavírus surgiram diferentes ativismos atravessados pelo digital em uma relação de apoio/conflito com os meios massivos frente as medidas governamentais para controlar os surtos. Ao indagar sobre os novos modos de participação sociopolítica, o estudo focaliza uma prática de ativismo urbano colada à lógica do tecnodiscurso (Paveau, 2021a) para compreender o funcionamento de um discurso subversivo materializado em cartazes militantes com os dizeres #YoMeQuedoSinCasa (Barcelona, maio/2020). O caso é analisado em relação aos tecnodiscursos que este subverte: a propaganda governamental #QuedaTeEnCasa e a resposta massiva, #YoMeQuedoEnCasa, tecnodiscurso virtuoso (Paveau, 2015). Partindo da teoria da ressignificação (Paveau, 2021a) —sobre as práticas tecnodiscursivas de repetição subversiva pela web participativa— o estudo reflete sobre o militantismo do mundo híbrido (Castells, 2017) e analisa os aspectos pragmáticos, interacionais, enunciativos, semântico-axiológicos, discursivos, sociossemânticos e político-pragmáticos do discurso em questão. Conclui-se que o ativismo analisado está ancorado na tecnodiscursividade (Paveau, 2021b) para produzir um enunciado ressignificado com traços revolucionários, porque ao subverter o tecnodiscurso massivo, desnuda seu virtuosismo expondo uma ferida social de negligencia estatal e permite produzir tanto resistências como demandas de reparação.

34. Creating and Experimenting with a Low-Cost, Rugged System to Visually Demonstrate the Vapor Pressure of Liquids as a Function of Temperature

Abstract

A creative apparatus for use in a hands-on laboratory experiment that allows the visualization of the vapor pressure as a function of temperature is described in this paper. Inspired by homemade barometers and using simple materials that are easily accessible for teaching laboratories, a lowcost system for the establishment of the vapor-pressure curve was constructed and applied in deionized water and in car-radiator-additive samples (based on ethane-1,2-diol) at different concentrations. The system constructed proved to be efficient, simple, and quite robust and is applicable in teaching activities for comparing and visualizing vapor-pressure curves of different liquids. It can also be used to estimate the molar enthalpy of water vaporization. The main advantages and drawbacks of the apparatus created, the results obtained for liquid samples, and the evaluation of the ruggedness of this experiment are described throughout the text. The establishment of this system is the result of a project developed by first-year-undergraduate students along with postgraduate students and professors from the Bachelor's Program of Science and Technology, hosted by the Universidade Federal do ABC, as part of the innovative course the Experimental Basis of Natural Sciences, a practical course which seeks to build knowledge through experimentation.
