Wide-lane (WL) uncalibrated phase delay (UPD) is usually derived from Melbourne–Wübbena (MW) linear combination and is a prerequisite in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) precise point positioning (PPP) ambiguity resolution (AR). MW is a linear combination of pseudorange and phase, and the accuracy is limited by the larger pseudorange noise which is about one hundred times of the carrier phase noise. However, there exist inconsistent pseudorange biases which may have detrimental effect on the WL UPD estimation, and further degrade user-side ambiguity fixing. Currently, only the large part of pseudorange biases, e.g., the differential code bias (DCB), are available and corrected in PPP-AR, while the receiver-type-dependent biases have not yet been considered. Ignoring such kind of bias, which could be up to 20 cm, will cause the ambiguity fixing failure, or even worse, the incorrect ambiguity fixing. In this study, we demonstrate the receiver-type-dependent WL UPD biases and investigate their temporal and spatial stability, and further propose the method to precisely estimate these biases and apply the corrections to improve the user-side PPP-AR. Using a large data set of 1560 GNSS stations during a 30-day period, we demonstrate that the WL UPD deviations among different types of receivers can reach ± 0.3 cycles. It is also shown that such kind of deviations can be calibrated with a precision of about 0.03 cycles for all Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. On the user side, ignoring the receiver-dependent UPD deviation can cause significant positioning error up to 10 cm. By correcting the deviations, the positioning performance can be improved by up to 50%, and the fixing rate can also be improved by 10%. Abstract The on-orbit characteristics and service performance of Galileo navigation system (Galileo) has been drawn attentions since Galileo is the only one global navigation system which is normally equipped with large-scale, high precision and performance hydrogen atomic clocks. Based on a period of 1000 days' Galileo satellite clock offset products, this article analyzed the performance changes of Galileo satellite clocks when the working clock is switched to the backup clock. The onboard clock phases, frequencies, frequency drifts, the polynomial fitting residuals and the stabilities have been obtained. Results show that the frequency drifts of Galileo satellite clocks can reach up to a magnitude of 10−19 and the fitting precisions are superior to 0.3 ns, while the stabilities in the time length of ten thousand seconds can achieve 10−14. Abstract The information of the satellite clock switching and performance variations on-orbit of Chinese BeiDou-2 Navigation System (BDS) is not available for the public. In order to detect the BDS satellite clock switching and performances variation, we analyzed the precise clock offset products with a total duration of 5 years every BDS satellite equipped four atomic clocks from four different manufactures from January 2013 to October 2017. Three important contributions are concluded as follows. (1) It is found that the average time of on-orbit operation for BDS satellite clocks is about 1–2 years. There have been 22 times of clock switching for BDS satellites, of which the C05 and C08 satellites have been switched to the fourth (last) atomic clock. (2) There are frequent phase adjustments for BDS on-orbit satellite clocks, and the frequency series is relatively stable. Furthermore, there are semi-annual sinusoid cycles in the frequency drift series of C06 and C09 satellites. (3) The performances of MEO satellite clocks perform better than the IGSO and GEO satellite clocks. The average ten-thousand frequency stability of BDS satellite clocks is about 1E-13, which is worse than that of GPS and Galileo but better than that of GLONASS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The satellite clocks used in the BeiDou-2 satellite navigation System (BDS) are Chinese self-developed Rb atomic clocks, and their performances and stabilities are worse than GPS and Galileo satellite clocks. Due to special periodic noises and nonlinear system errors existing in the BDS clock offset series, the GPS ultra-rapid clock model, which uses a simple quadratic polynomial plus one periodic is not suitable for BDS. Therefore, an improved prediction model for BDS satellite clocks is proposed in order to enhance the precision of ultra-rapid predicted clock offsets. First, a basic quadratic polynomial model which is fit for the rubidium (Rb) clock is constructed for BDS. Second, the main cyclic terms are detected and identified by the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method according to every satellite clock offset series. The detected results show that most BDS clocks have special cyclic terms which are different from the orbit periods. Therefore, two main cyclic terms are added to absorb the periodic effects. Third, after the quadratic polynomial plus two periodic fitting, some evident nonlinear system errors also exist in the model residual, and the Back Propagation (BP) neural network model is chosen to compensate for these nonlinear system errors. The simulation results show that the performance and precision using the improved model are better than that of China iGMAS ultra-rapid prediction (ISU-P) products and the Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum GFZ BDS ultra-rapid prediction (GBU-P) products. Comparing to ISU-P products, the average improvements using the proposed model in 3 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h are 23.1%, 21.3%, 20.2%, and 19.8%, respectively. Meanwhile the accuracy improvements of the proposed model are 9.9%, 13.9%, 17.3%, and 21.2% compared to GBU-P products. In addition, the kinematic Precise Point Positioning (PPP) example using 8 Multi-GNSS Experiment MGEX stations shows that the precision based on the proposed clock model has improved about 16%, 14%, and 38% in the North (N), East (E) and Height (H) components. The third generation of the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS-3) can transmit five-frequency signals. The real-time satellite clock offset of BDS-3 is typically generated utilizing the B1I/B3I combination with the ambiguity-float solutions. By conducting the ambiguity resolution (AR), the reliability of the satellite clock offset can be improved. However, the performance of BDS-3 ambiguity-fixed real-time satellite clock offset with B1C/B2a signals remains unknown and unrevealed. In this contribution, the performance of the BDS-3 ambiguity-fixed satellite clock offset with the new B1C/B2a signals is investigated. One week of observation data from 85 stations was used to perform ambiguity-fixed satellite clock offset estimation. For B1I/B3I and B1C/B2a signals, the wide-lane (WL) uncalibrated phase delay (UPD) on the satellite end is fairly stable for one day, while the narrow-lane (NL) UPD standard deviation (STD) amounts to 0.122 and 0.081 cycles, respectively. The mean ambiguity fixing rate is 80.7% and 78.0% for these two signal combinations, and the time to first fix (TTFF) for the B1C/B2a signals is remarkably shorter than that of the B1I/B3I signals. The STDs of the ambiguity-float and -fixed satellite clock offsets are 0.033 and 0.026 ns, respectively, for the B1I/B3I combination, and it is reduced to 0.024 and 0.023 ns for B1C/B2a signals, respectively. Using the estimated UPD and clock offset products, the positioning performance of the kinematic Precise Point Positioning (PPP)-AR results amounts to 1.56, 1.23, and 4.46 cm in the east, north, and up directions for B1I/B3I signals, respectively. It is improved to 1.36, 1.16, and 4.25 cm using the products estimated with the B1C/B2a signals, with improvements of 12.8%, 5.7%, and 4.7% in three directions, respectively. The most commonly used real-time augmentation services in China are the International GNSS Service's (IGS) real-time service (RTS), PPP-B2b service, and Double-Frequency Multi-Constellation (DFMC) service of the BeiDou Satellite-Based Augmentation System (BDSBAS) service. However, research on the performance evaluation, comparison, and application scope of these three products is still incomplete. This article introduces methods for obtaining real-time augmentation information and real-time orbit and clock offset recovery. Based on real-time orbit and clock offset accuracy, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability, this article systematically evaluates the performance and analyzes the application fields of Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES), PPP-B2b, and BDSBAS augmentation information. The results of the evaluation revealed that the radial accuracy of the CNES and PPP-B2b real-time orbit product is consistent, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) is better than 5 cm. The CNES real-time orbit product can achieve centimeter-level accuracy in both along-track and cross-track components, surpassing PPP-B2b's decimeter-level accuracy. Both services demonstrate consistent accuracy in the real-time clock offset, with PPP-B2b showing similar standard deviations (STDs) of 0.16 ns for different satellites. However, for CNES, the STD of the real-time clock offset varies, with values of 0.10 ns, 0.19 ns, and 0.60 ns, respectively, for GPS, BDS-3 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and BDS-3 Inclined Geosynchronous Satellite Orbit (IGSO) satellites. Centimeter-level accuracy is achieved after convergence and positioning availability exceeds 99% for CNES and PPP-B2b services. Therefore, the difference between the two services in application areas depends on the acquisition of augmentation information. However, BDSBAS, which concentrates on code observations, demonstrates inferior performance in real-time orbit, clock offset, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability when compared to the other two services. Real-time satellite clock offset is a crucial element for real-time precise point positioning (RT-PPP). However, the elapsed time for undifferenced (UD) multi-global navigation satellite system (GNSS) real-time satellite clock offset estimation at each epoch is increased with the growth of stations, which may fall short of real-time application requirements. Therefore, a rapid estimation method for UD multi-GNSS real-time satellite clock offset is proposed to improve the computation efficiency, in which both the dimension of the normal equation (NEQ) and the number of redundant observations are calculated before adjustment; if these two values are larger than the predefined thresholds, the elevation mask is gradually increased until they are less than the predefined thresholds. Then, the clock offset estimation is conducted; this method is called clock offset estimation using partial observations. Totals of 50, 60, 70 and 80 stations are applied to perform experiments. Compared to clock offset estimation using all observations, the elapsed times of clock offset estimation using partial observations can be reduced from 6.80 to 3.10 s, 7.93 to 2.97 s, 12.04 to 3.14 s for 60, 70 and 80 stations, respectively. By using the proposed method, the elapsed time of the clock offset estimation at each epoch is less than 5 s. The estimated clock offset accuracy for GPS, BDS-3, Galileo and GLONASS satellites are better than 0.04, 0.05, 0.03 and 0.16 ns when using the partial observations to estimate clock offset with 50, 60, 70 and 80 stations, respectively. For the multi-GNSS kinematic PPP using the estimated clock offset from 50, 60, 70 and 80 stations with partial observations, the positioning accuracy at 95% confidence level in the east, north and up direction are better than 2.70, 2.20 and 5.60 cm, respectively. The quality of real-time satellite clock offsets products is one of the key elements for real-time satellite clock performance monitoring and real-time precise point positioning (PPP). However, impacted by the station location, environment, communication equipment, receiver performance, network delay, temporary modem failure or other reasons, the observation data of clock offset datum receiver occasionally outage, resulting in all satellite clocks offset cannot be estimated. In this contribution, an efficient clock offset datum switching compensation method for BDS real-time satellite clock offset estimation is proposed. One hundred stations distributed around the world, from day of year (DOY) 074 to 075 in 2019 are used to estimate BDS real-time satellite clock offset. Four schemes: clock offset datum switching without compensation (S1), clock offset datum switching with satellite clock offset jump compensation (S2), clock offset datum switching with satellite clock offset jump and receiver clock drift compensation (S3, the proposed method), clock offset datum without switching (S4), are used to validate the proposed method. By using the proposed method, the satellite clock offset jump can be eliminated and the satellite clock offset consistency can be maintained. The satellite clock offsets STD for S1, S2, S3 and S4 are 0.184, 0.183, 0.183 and 0.150 ns, respectively. The fitting precision of S1, S2, S3 and S4 are 70907.344, 0.731, 0.502 and 0.543 ns, respectively. The frequency stability of S3 shows the best performance among S2, S3 and S4 when the averaging interval time is 10,000 and 20,000 s, which can be attributed to the effectiveness of proposed method and frequency stability difference of clock offset datum receiver. The fitting precision and frequency stability cannot be reflected correctly by clock offset due to the satellite clock offset jump in S1. For precise point positioning (PPP), the coordinates jump and re-convergence can be eliminated by using the proposed method. In the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) community, the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) is an augmentation system for users in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the characteristics and performance of four QZSS satellite clocks in a long-term scale are unknown at present. However, it is crucial to the positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services of users, especially in Asia-Pacific region. In this study, the characteristics and performance variation of four QZSS satellite clocks, which including the phase, frequency, frequency drift, fitting residuals, frequency accuracy, periodic terms, frequency stability and short-term clock prediction, are revealed in detail for the first time based on the precise satellite clock offset products of nearly 1000 days. The important contributions are as follows: (1) It is detected that the times of phase and frequency jump are 2.25 and 1.5 for every QZSS satellite clock in one year. The magnitude of the frequency drift is about 10−18. The periodic oscillation of frequency drift of J01 and J02 satellite clocks is found. The clock offset model precision of QZSS is 0.33 ns. (2) The two main periods of QZSS satellite clock are 24 and 12 hours, which is the influence of the satellite orbit; (3) The frequency stability of 100, 1000 and 10,000 s are 1.98 × 10−13, 6.59 × 10−14 and 5.39 × 10−14 for QZSS satellite clock, respectively. The visible "bump" is found at about 400 s for J02 and J03 satellite clocks. The short-term clock prediction accuracy of is 0.12 ns. • 1. A quality control method for estimating multi-GNSS real-time satellite clock offset is proposed. • 2. The satellite clock offset accuracy of GPS, Galileo, BDS-3 and Galileo is improved. • 3.The precise point positioning accuracy can be improved by using the clock offset. Real-time satellite clock offset plays a prominent role in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) community. However, the GNSS raw observations are impacted by outliers, resulting in the quality of observations becomes poorer, which will dramatically affect the performance of estimated multi-GNSS satellite clock offset in real-time. In this contribution, an improved Inter Quartile Range (IQR) method is proposed to improve the quality of multi-GNSS satellite clock offset estimation in real-time, in which the improvements include two aspects. Firstly, the empirical threshold C 1 is determined to adapt multi-GNSS satellite clock offset estimation, if one residual is not between (Q 1 - C 1 ∗ I Q R , Q 3 + C 1 ∗ I Q R) , the observation is deleted. More importantly, to guarantee the clock offset of each satellite can be estimated at each epoch, if one satellite corresponding to all observation of stations is deleted, the IQR is conducted again at the current epoch for these observations. Three schemes are designed: 50 stations are used to perform multi-GNSS satellite clock offset estimation in real-time, which are without quality control (S1), with the proposed quality control method in this contribution(S2), and with quality control method using 8.5 medians of residuals (S3). Compared to S1, the satellite clock offset accuracy of GPS, Galileo, BDS-3, and GLONASS for S2 can be significantly improved from 0.082 to 0.055 ns, 0.106 to 0.072 ns, 0.178 to 0.083 ns, and 0.146 to 0.100 ns, respectively. The improvement is 32.93%, 32.07%, 53.37%, and 31.51%, respectively. The clock offset performance of S2 is better than that of S3 in terms of stability and reliability for GPS, BDS-3, and GLONASS. Another 52 stations are applied to perform multi-GNSS kinematic real-time precise point positioning (RT-PPP). For the convergence time and positioning accuracy, the RT-PPP employing the satellite clock offset generated from S2 shows the best performance. [Display omitted] • The long-term performance of GLONASS satellite clocks were revealed for the first time. • The periodic terms existed in the clock are detected. • The comparison between GLONASS and other GNSS satellite clock is conducted. The cesium atomic clock installed on the GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS) is a key piece of equipment. However, its performance is easily affected by the external environment and its physical characteristics. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the long-term performance of the clock. In this study, using eight years of continuous GLONASS precise satellite clock offset products, the long-term performance of GLONASS satellite clocks is revealed for the first time. The results showed that the mean number of phase and frequency jumps for one satellite clock in one year were 0.29 and 0.19, respectively. The fitting precision, which is the standard deviation of the fitting residuals, was 0.88 nanoseconds (ns). Except for the R06 satellite clock, the first or second period was 11.24 h in the clock offset. In terms of clock stability, the short-term clock offset prediction accuracy was 0.52 ns, the frequency stability at 1000 and 10000 s was 4.03 × 10-13 and 1.01 × 10-13, respectively. Both the short-term clock offset prediction accuracy and frequency stability were inferior to those of the rubidium atomic clock of the Global Positioning System (GPS) Block IIF satellites, the second-generation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-2), Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), and Galileo Passive Hydrogen Maser (PHM). The mean switching number for each GLONASS satellite clock was 0.27 per year. The emergence of multiple global navigation satellite systems (multi-GNSS), including global positioning system (GPS), global navigation satellite system (GLONASS), Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS), and Galileo, brings not only great opportunities for real-time precise point positioning (PPP), but also challenges in quality control because of inevitable data anomalies. This research aims at achieving the real-time quality control of the multi-GNSS combined PPP using additional observations with opposite weight. A robust multiple-system combined PPP estimation is developed to simultaneously process observations from all the four GNSS systems as well as single, dual, or triple systems. The experiment indicates that the proposed quality control can effectively eliminate the influence of outliers on the single GPS and the multiple-system combined PPP. The analysis on the positioning accuracy and the convergence time of the proposed robust PPP is conducted based on one week's data from 32 globally distributed stations. The positioning root mean square (RMS) error of the quad-system combined PPP is 1.2 cm, 1.0 cm, and 3.0 cm in the east, north, and upward components, respectively, with the improvements of 62.5%, 63.0%, and 55.2% compared to those of single GPS. The average convergence time of the quad-system combined PPP in the horizontal and vertical components is 12.8 min and 12.2 min, respectively, while it is 26.5 min and 23.7 min when only using single-GPS PPP. The positioning performance of the GPS, GLONASS, and BDS (GRC) combination and the GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo (GRE) combination is comparable to the GPS, GLONASS, BDS and Galileo (GRCE) combination and it is better than that of the GPS, BDS, and Galileo (GCE) combination. Compared to GPS, the improvements of the positioning accuracy of the GPS and GLONASS (GR) combination, the GPS and Galileo (GE) combination, the GPS and BDS (GC) combination in the east component are 53.1%, 43.8%, and 40.6%, respectively, while they are 55.6%, 48.1%, and 40.7% in the north component, and 47.8%, 40.3%, and 34.3% in the upward component.
