The main goal of the presented study is to introduce a model of a pairwise invasion interaction with a nonlinear diffusion and advection. The new equation is based on the further general works introduced by Bramson (1988) to describe the invasive-invaded dynamics. This type of model is made particular with a density dependent diffusion along with an advection term. The new resulting model is then analyzed to explore the regularity, existence and uniqueness of solutions. It is well known that density dependent diffusion operators induce a propagating front with finite speed for compactly supported functions. Based on this, we introduce an analytical approach to determine the evolution of such a propagating front in the invasion dynamics. Afterward, we study the problem with travelling wave profiles and a numerical assessment. As a main finding to remark: When both species propagate with significantly different travelling wave speeds, the interaction becomes unstable, while when the species propagate with similar low speeds, the interaction stabilizes.

The goal of this study is to provide an analysis of a Fisher-KPP non-linear reaction problem with a higher-order diffusion and a non-linear advection. We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions together with asymptotic solutions and positivity conditions. We show the existence of instabilities based on a shooting method approach. Afterwards, we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions as an abstract evolution of a bounded continuous single parametric ( t ) semigroup. Asymptotic solutions based on a Hamilton-Jacobi equation are then analyzed. Finally, the conditions required to ensure a comparison principle are explored supported by the existence of a positive maximal kernel.

Introduction: This article describes the impact of a simulation-based learning method on emergency nurses at the Royal Devon Hospital (Exeter, United Kingdom)., Objectives: To determine the training needs of nurses who were recently hired, as well as to evaluate the perception on the acquisition of emergency nurse competencies after the educational intervention., Method: The study was composed of 3 phases., First Phase: The training needs were analysed from the point of view of the participants (through a focus group), and the institution (by consulting experts through an online questionnaire)., Second Phase: Various simulations were implemented and designed by the participants themselves according to their needs, using the Self-Learning Methodology in Simulated Environments (MAES©)., Third Phase: The results of the education program were evaluated., Results: Many categories were obtained that served to determine the training needs of the participants, and to design various self-directed simulation scenarios. Three simulation scenarios were performed and afterwards discussed., Conclusion: The experience was positively evaluated by the participants. The participants believed that the MAES© method was adequate, given that at all times, they were the protagonists of their own learning according to their training needs, and considering their previous knowledge., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Purpose: With the rise of the different Variants of Concern (VOC) and Variants of Interest (VOI) in order to control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, strategies for accurately tracking these different variants have been developed. While most of these strategies rely heavily on specific PCRs targeting the characteristic mutations of some lineages, several approaches using the alterations at the cycle threshold (Ct) of different commercial PCR diagnostic tests have been described. The objective of this study is to analyse the use of the Ct difference at the Allplex™ SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/RSV Assay (Seegene, Korea) between the Nucleocapside (N) and the Spike (S) or RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) genes as a preliminary screening for variant tracking., Methods: The samples analysed with the Allplex™ SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/RSV Assay from 1 st of March 2021 to 26 th of December 2021 were selected. The Ct values for N, S, RdRP were collected, and the differences between N and S (ΔS) and N and RdRP (ΔRdRP) were calculated. Using ΔS and ΔRdRP a diagnostic test was designed and these results were compared to the routine Variant assessment., Results: The mean ΔS and ΔRdRP were characteristic for Alpha and Delta. This difference was statistically significant. For Every analysed Variant the diagnostic test achieved a higher than 90% sensitivity with a noteworthy performance with the Omicron variant (97% sensitivity and 90% specificity)., Conclusions: The analysis of the Ct alterations at the Allplex™ SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/RSV Assay may be a suitable method for an early approach to SARS-CoV-2 variant assessment., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier B.V. Objective: Knowing the perceptions of nursing technicians about the risks to the patient in the use of enteral nutritional therapy, in a scenario of clinical simulation., Method: A qualitative study, performed through a clinical simulation with nursing technicians from a university hospital in the South of Brazil, in August 2017. The simulation sessions were recorded in audio and later transcribed. Content analysis was used for data analysis., Results: Four thematic categories resulted from the analysis: Risks related to the tube; Risks related to diet; Risks related to contamination and Risks related to routine., Conclusion: The clinical simulation allowed nursing technicians to identify risks in the practice of enteral nutritional therapy and ways to minimize them. Promoting spaces for continuing education in the service, using clinical simulation methodology, gives an opportunity for critical reflection, which can contribute to safer, effective and quality nursing care.
