Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of psychological symptoms of refugee adolescents on their substance use proclivity. Methods: The study was conducted as descriptive cross-sectional research. The study was conducted with refugee adolescents living in the southeast Anatolian region of Turkey. The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and Substance Use Proclivity Scale were used to determine adolescents' mental symptoms and substance use tendencies. Linear regression model and structural equation modeling were preferred in the analysis of the research. Results: It was determined that adolescents' experienced psychological symptoms that were directly related to factors such as loss of relatives and length of stay in Turkey. In the model created for adolescents' substance use tendencies, it was determined that psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, negative self-image and hostility were effective at a rate of 49.4%. Conclusions: It was found that refugee adolescents experienced intense mental symptoms despite the fact that many years have passed after war and migration. It was determined that the losses they experienced and smoking had most effect on these mental symptoms. Background Earthquakes disproportionately affect women and exacerbate gender and social inequalities. This study aims to investigate the psychological impact of the earthquake in Türkiye on women and the associated factors. Methods This is a survey-based study. We collected data from 498 women residing in cities most affected by the earthquake. Results Participants' mean age was 27.72 ± 5.4. Over 78% of the participants lost at least one family member, and 43.7% lost at least one child due to the earthquake. The mean average of Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) scores was 100.8 (SD = 8.37), and the Global Severity Index was 1.9 (SD = 0.16). Regression analysis showed that higher education levels predicted poor outcomes across most BSI dimensions. Losing a family member and shelter and injury status were also predictors for several mental health outcomes of the BSI subscales. Conclusions Earthquakes significantly impact women's well-being and may have a broader impact on the whole family. There is an urgent need to provide psycho-social interventions in the response and recovery phases of the crisis to meet the affected women's needs. This includes providing basic needs with attention to women-specific needs, restoring social networks, addressing gender-based violence and providing gender-sensitive specialized interventions for those who need further support. BACKGROUND: The psychological conditions of children exposed to earthquakes, such as somatization, obsessive–compulsive, hostility, and paranoid thought, have not been adequately studied. AIM: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the mental states and sleep patterns of children who experienced the Kahramanmaraş earthquake. METHODS: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, and relational study that included 867 children from 11 provinces of Turkey affected by the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6th. The Child Follow-up Form, Mental Symptom Screening Scale, and Child Sleep Habits Scale were used to collect data. RESULTS: The psychological symptoms (anxiety, depression, somatization, anger-hostility, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, interpersonal sensitivity, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, psychotic symptoms, and other issues) experienced by children after the earthquake explained 96.9% of their sleep disturbance. Some of the demographic characteristics, such as age, the status of experiencing loss in the earthquake, the survival status of their mother and father, the survival status of their siblings, the total number of losses after the earthquake, the total number of losses in the nuclear family, total hours spent under the rubble, the hours children waited for their father, mother, and siblings to come out of the rubble, accounted for 77.9% of the mental symptoms (SCL-90). CONCLUSIONS: These results showed the importance of early recognition and treatment of sleep disturbances to prevent possible psychiatric disorders after children have been exposed to natural disasters. Earthquakes and other disasters caused by natural hazards have a significant impact on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the psychological symptoms, suicide probability, and future expectations among adolescents affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake in Türkiye. A total of 704 individuals participated in the study. We conducted a cross-sectional study using the Brief Symptom Inventory, Suicide Probability Scale and Future Expectation Scale. The mean age of participants was 15.27 ± 1.39. Participants lost up to 10 of their relatives and up to 4 of their nuclear families due to the earthquake. The study showed a strong positive correlation between psychological symptoms and suicide probability and a strong negative correlation between psychological symptoms and future expectations among adolescents. Additionally, losing family members or relatives was associated with increased psychological problems. Earthquake-related issues such as lack of food, shelter and security, and education disruption should be addressed to mitigate the mental health impact of the disaster. Additionally, mental health and psychosocial support services should be made available for adolescents and their families in the earthquake-affected regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study was conducted to examine the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between social exclusion and sleep status of refugee children. Materials and Methods: This study is a descriptive and relational study. The data were obtained through "Child Information Form", "Ostracism Experience Scale for Adolescents", "Sleep Disturbance Scale for C hildren" and "Child and Youth Resilience Measure". A total of 791 refugee children were included in the study. The mediating role of resilience in the relationship between social exclusion and sleep status of refugee children was examined with Process Macro programme. Results: Social exclusion has a statistically significant positive effect on sleep disturbance (β1=0.960; p<0.001). 92% of the change in sleep disturbance score is explained by social exclusion score (R2=0.920). The resilience is significantly negatively correlated with social exclusion (β1=-0.920; p<0.001). The social exclusion explains 84% of the resilience score (R2=0.840). If social exclusion increases by one point, there will be a 0.430 increase in sleep disturbance scores β1=0.430; p<0.001). If resilience increases by one point, there will be a 0.570 decreases in sleep disturbance scores β1=-0.570; p<0.001). The social exclusion and resilience scores explain 98% of sleep disturbance scores (R2 = 0.980). Conclusions: In our study, it was found that children's resilience status played an important mediating role in the relationship between social exclusion and sleep status. It was detected that children with good adaptation skills and coping capacities had less impairment in sleep quality and duration. It was found that refugee children who were isolated and excluded from the society were negatively affected with respect to their sleep patterns whereas children who were not excluded and ignored in the society they lived in had better coping skills and fewer sleep disturbances. Background: University life is a special period in which students take full responsibility for their lives, especially as individuals. This period includes many positive and negative situations. As a result, they need serious psychological support to cope with the potential or real problems they experience. This study aims to determine the effects of cognitive-behavioral-therapy-based psychoeducation programs on university students’ automatic thoughts, perceived stress, and self-efficacy levels. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a single group pre-test and post-test design. The research was carried out at a university in Turkey from October 1 to November 15, 2022. The sample consisted of 223 students who agreed to participate in the research. The psychoeducation program prepared within the scope of the study was conducted face-to-face for four 45-min sessions. In this study, we used an individual introduction form, automatic thought questionnaire, perceived stress scale, and general self-efficacy scale. Data analysis was done via SPSS software, version 23. To analyze the data, we used descriptive statistics along with the Pearson correlation test and the Spearman correlation test. Results: A total of 73.4% of the students who participated in the research were female and 49.5% stayed in the student dormitory. The economic situation of 53.2% was moderate and 41.4% to 67.1% of the students had a good relationship with their families, while 63.5% had a good relationship with their friends. After the psychoeducation, a significant decrease was observed in the mean scores of students’ automatic thoughts and perceived stress, while their self-perception scores increased significantly (P<0.05). Conclusion: The cognitive-behavioral-therapy-based psychoeducation program positively affects university students in various aspects. After the psychoeducation, the perceived stress levels of the students decreased, their self-efficacy levels were positively affected, and their negative automatic thinking levels decreased. Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of technology use on working young loneliness and social relationships. Designs and Methods: The relational descriptive study was conducted with 1,312 young using a young information form, the Internet Addiction Scale, the Peer Relationship Scale, and the Smart Phone Addiction Scale. Conclusion: It was determined that young, who are exposed to violence, smoke, and work as unskilled labor force have a high dependence on the Internet and smartphones. Young with the Internet and smartphone addiction were found to have high levels of loneliness and poor social relations. Background: Trauma is important in the etiology of many problems including childhood anxiety, somatization, hostility and sleep disturbance., Aims: This research was conducted to examine the posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms of children who experienced the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes in Türkiye., Methods: The research, designed as a descriptive and relational type, was conducted with 636 children in the 10 to 18 age group who experienced the earthquake. Data were obtained through the Child Information Form, the Child Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Reaction Index (CPTSD-RI), and the Depression Inventory for Children., Results: According to the scale scores, 100% of the children had depression symptoms, while 23% had severe trauma and 77% had very severe posttraumatic stress symptoms. It was revealed that children's posttraumatic stress reactions explained 71% of their depression ( p < .001). It has been determined that the most important triggers affecting children's posttraumatic stress reactions are being trapped under debris and the problems they experience in reaching shelter and assistance ( B: -3.706; B: -1.547; B: 3.969)., Conclusions: It was determined that there was a strong relationship between posttraumatic stress reactions and depression symptoms of children who experienced the earthquake.
