Abstract

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/21/12/3943 Este artículo de investigación pertenece al número especial "Autonomous Navigation in Robotics: A New Challenge towards Social Robots". This paper presents a real-time global path planning method for mobile robots using harmonic functions, such as the Poisson equation, based on the Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) of these functions. The main property of the proposed technique is that the computational cost is negligible in real-time, even if the robot is disturbed or the goal is changed. The main idea of the method is the off-line generation, for a given environment, of the whole set of paths from any start and goal configurations of a mobile robot, namely the computational vademecum, derived from a harmonic potential field in order to use it on-line for decision-making purposes. Up until now, the resolution of the Laplace or Poisson equations has been based on traditional numerical techniques unfeasible for real-time calculation. This drawback has prevented the extensive use of harmonic functions in autonomous navigation, despite their powerful properties. The numerical technique that reverses this situation is the Proper Generalized Decomposition. To demonstrate and validate the properties of the PGD-vademecum in a potential-guided path planning framework, both real and simulated implementations have been developed. Simulated scenarios, such as an L-Shaped corridor and a benchmark bug trap, are used, and a real navigation of a LEGO®MINDSTORMS robot running in static environments with variable start and goal configurations is shown. This device has been selected due to its computational and memory-restricted capabilities, and it is a good example of how its properties could help the development of social robots.

Abstract

International audience; The condition monitoring of induction motors (IM), is an important concern for industry due to the widespread use of these machines. Magnetic Flux Analysis, has been proven to be a reliable method of diagnosing these motors. Among the IM types, squirrel-cage motors (SCIM) are one of the most commonly used. In many industrial applications, the IM are driven by different types of starters, quite often by soft-starters. Despite rotor damages are more prone to occur in line-started motors, these kind of failures have been also reported in those ones driven by soft-starters. Related to this, the use of these type of starters may introduce some harmonic components, that could veil the magnetic flux signature of the different rotor faults. So, the aim of this study is to confirm if the Stray Flux Analysis technique maintains its reliability in these cases. Thus, this article presents the results of soft-started induction motors start-up tests, both in healthy and faulty motors. The fault components are detected by analyzing the stray flux during the starting and the study is complemented by analyzing the stray flux during the steady-state. In addition to the failure patterns, numerical indicators have been found so the identification of the failures is not only qualitative, but also quantitative. The results confirm the potential of the technique for detecting electromechanical failures in soft-started SCIMs.

Abstract

[EN] We theoretically, numerically, and experimentally analyze the Density-Near-Zero (DNZ) regime of a one-dimensional acoustic metamaterial. This acoustic metamaterial is composed of thin elastic plates periodically clamped in an air-filled waveguide, and the effective dynamic zero mass density is obtained from the strong dispersion around the bandgaps associated with the resonances of the plates. We emphasize the importance of the impedance mismatch between the acoustic metamaterial and the surrounding waveguide at the frequency of the zero effective density in addition to the consequences of the inherent losses. As a result, the frequency of the zero phase propagation, i.e., the acoustic propagation with zero phase delay, is not exactly the frequency of the zero density and lies in the frequency bandgap where the effective density is negative. Considering these limitations, the zero phase propagation is still experimentally observed and a subwavelength acoustic dipole is numerically designed, thus demonstrating the possible realistic implementations of DNZ acoustic metamaterials., This article is based upon work from COST Action DENORMS CA15125, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). Abstract

International audience; Silica aerogel has been widely studied as bulk material for its extremely low density and thermal conductivity. Plates or membranes made of this extremely soft materials exhibits interesting properties for sound absorption. A novel signal processing method for the characterization of an acoustic metamaterial made of silica aerogel clamped plates is presented. The acoustic impedance of a silica aerogel clamped plate is derived from the elastic theory for the flexural waves, while the transfer matrix method is used to model reflection and transmission coefficients of a single plate. Experimental results are obtained by using an acoustic impedance tube. The difference between the measured and modeled reflexion and transmission coefficients is minimized under constraints to recover the acoustic parameters of the silica aerogel plate. Once the properties of the silica aerogel plate are obtained, the perfect absorption condition is derived by studying the reflection coefficient of a aerogel plate rigidly backed with a cavity in the complex frequency domain. Reflection measurements with a varying cavity length from 1 mm to 65 mm are performed to valid the perfect absorption condition. It is found that the use of silica aerogel plate exhibit perfect absorption condition for several configurations.

Abstract

The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) has been installed at the GANIL facility, Caen-France. This setup exploits the stable and radioactive heavy-ions beams delivered by the cyclotron accelerator complex of GANIL. Additionally, it benefits from a large palette of ancillary detectors and spectrometers to address in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of exotic nuclei. The set-up has been designed to couple AGATA with a magnetic spectrometer, charged-particle and neutron detectors, scintillators for the detection of high-energy γ rays and other devices such as a plunger to measure nuclear lifetimes. In this paper, the design and the mechanical characteristics of the set-up are described. Based on simulations, expected performances of the AGATA l π array are presented. Abstract

This work deals with the design of a high sensitivity DNA sequence detector using a 50 MHz quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) electronic oscillator circuit. The oscillator circuitry is based on Miller topology, which is able to work in damping media. Calibration and experimental study of frequency noise are carried out, finding that the designed sensor has a resolution of 7.1 ng/cm 2 in dynamic conditions (with circulation of liquid). Then the oscillator is proved as DNA biosensor. Results show that the system is able to detect the presence of complementary target DNAs in a solution with high selectivity and sensitivity. Abstract

Cardiac catheter ablation requires an adequate contact between myocardium and catheter tip. Our aim was to quantify the relationship between the contact force (CF) and the resulting mechanical deformation induced by the catheter tip using an ex vivo model and computational modeling. The catheter tip was inserted perpendicularly into porcine heart samples. CF values ranged from 10 to 80 g. The computer model was built to simulate the same experimental conditions, and it considered a 3-parameter Mooney-Rivlin model based on hyper-elastic material. We found a strong correlation between the CF and insertion depth (ID) (R 2  = 0.96, P < 0.001), from 0.7 ± 0.3 mm at 10 g to 6.9 ± 0.1 mm at 80 g. Since the surface deformation was asymmetrical, two transversal diameters (minor and major) were identified. Both diameters were strongly correlated with CF (R 2  ≥ 0.95), from 4.0 ± 0.4 mm at 20 g to 10.3 ± 0.0 mm at 80 g (minor), and from 6.4 ± 0.7 mm at 20 g to 16.7 ± 0.1 mm at 80 g (major).
