Methods: In this prospective and multicenter study, data were collected from 84 patients with endometrial lesions from 11 hospitals in China. All the patients received a conventional US and Sonazoid-CEUS examination. The lesion characteristics based on US and Sonazoid-CEUS imaging were collected from the case report forms. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were determined using histopathologic diagnosis as the gold standard. Results: Of the 79 patients included, 29 were diagnosed with benign lesions and 50 with endometrial carcinoma (EC). The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV for Sonazoid-CEUS and US at differentiating EC from benign endometrial lesions were 82.2, 94, 62.1, 81.0, and 85.7, and 79.7, 96, 51.7, 92.3, and 88.2, respectively, with no significant differences observed for any of the values. For Sonazoid-CEUS, the best delineators of EC versus benign lesions were early enhancement and hyperenhancement (74 vs 53.3, P = 0.029, 68 vs 45, P < 0.001), and lesion size enlargement (76 vs 48, P = 0.001). Despite finding no significant difference in the enhancement patterns (P = .367), a faster wash-in pattern with the contrast agent entering before the surrounding myometrium was more common in the EC vs benign cases (92 vs 48.3). Conclusions: Sonazoid-CEUS has higher accuracy, specificity, and comparable sensitivity for differentiating EC from benign endometrial lesions compared with conventional US. It provides complementary hemodynamics information reflective of tissue vascularization, which may improve the overall diagnostic efficiency. We studied its use as an alternative method to visual inspection by flexible laryngoscopy (FL) for vocal cord assessment in patients undergoing thoracic surgeries. Methods: After Institutional Ethics Committee approval and trial registration, in this single-arm, prospective study, the vocal cord function of 110 patients who underwent either total oesophagectomy or mediastinoscopy was assessed immediately after extubation by both FL and TLUSG. A follow-up assessment was done by laryngoscopy using Hopkin&apos;s endoscope (HL) and a repeat TLUSG. The primary outcome was the concordance between direct visualisation (FL or HL) and TLUSG. Results: Vocal cords were successfully visualised by TLUSG in 90 of male and all female patients. Findings of FL and TLUSG done at the first assessment matched in 89 (86.4) out of 103 patients, and the degree of concordance was 0.69 (95 confidence interval [CI] =0.52-0.83). At the second assessment, HL and TLUSG findings matched in 83 (94.3) out of 88 patients, and the degree of concordance was 0.89 (95 CI = 0.77-0.98). Conclusion: TLUSG is an effective noninvasive alternative to direct visualisation for vocal cord assessment in both male and female patients undergoing thoracic surgery. This study aims to compare the duration and efficacy of an ultrasound-guided TAP block with those of a caudal epidural for paediatric unilateral lower abdominal surgeries. Methods: After ethical approval, sixty children aged 1 to 9 years were randomised into ultrasound-guided TAP block or caudal block with general anaesthesia for unilateral lower abdominal surgeries. The primary endpoint was time for the first rescue analgesia in the postoperative period. The secondary endpoints were total postoperative opioid consumption, modified Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario Pain Scale (CHEOPS) and the Face, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability (FLACC) scale in the postoperative period. Results: The mean time for first rescue analgesia was 11.33 ± 2.80 h in the TAP block group, while in the caudal group, it was 13.18 ± 2.67 h (95 confidence interval [CI] mean difference 2.58-10.58, P = 0.017). The total postoperative morphine requirement was comparable in both groups at both 12 h (TAP block group 0.50 ± 0.12 mg vs. caudal block group 0.56 ± 0.12 mg, 95 CI mean difference 0.09-0.02, P = 0.08) and 24 h (TAP block group 0.96 ± 0.30 mg vs. caudal block group 0.81 ± 0.34 mg, 95 CI mean difference 0.06-0.32, P = 0.06) time period. Conclusion: The mean time for first rescue analgesia was lesser in the TAP block group as compared to caudal group. Advancements in airway management are continuously evolving. This narrative review highlights the recent advancements with respect to innovations, tools, techniques, guidelines, and research in both technical and non-technical aspects of airway management. These include nasal endoscopy, virtual endoscopy, airway ultrasound, video endoscopes, supraglottic airways with enhanced protection against aspiration, hybrid devices, and the use of artificial intelligence and telemedicine, the utility of which has increased in recent times, thereby improving success with airway management and enhancing patient safety. There has been an increasing emphasis on peri-intubation oxygenation strategies to reduce complications in patients with a physiologically difficult airway. Recent guidelines for difficult airway management and preventing unrecognised oesophageal intubation are available. Large multicentre airway data collection helps us examine airway incidents, aetiology, and complications to expand our knowledge and give us insights for change in practice. The determination of dry weight in children remains challenging. This study explores the usefulness of lung ultrasound in assessing fluid volume change and the possibility of pulmonary ultrasound as a method to monitor dry weight in pediatric dialysis patients. Methods This was a prospective observational study. We compared the predialysis and postdialysis B-line scores of the dry-weight group and non-dry-weight group. Changes in body weight and B-line scores were recorded during the dialytic period and interdialytic period, and the correlation was analyzed. Lung ultrasound was performed after the dialysis session every Friday, and B-line score < 10 was considered to indicate that there was no volume overload; the weight was recorded as the target weight. Results Fourteen patients were included. A total of 78 ultrasound assessments were performed: 30 in the dry-weight group and 48 in the non-dry-weight group. The B-line scores decreased after dialysis in all patients (p < 0.001). Thirty-three assessments were performed in the interdialytic period, and 40 assessments in the dialytic period were performed within 1 week. Linear regression showed that changes in B-line number were directly and positively correlated with interdialytic weight gain (r = 0.517, p = 0.002) and dialytic weight loss (r = 0.558, p < 0.001). The weight of the children increased gradually without volume overload in two patients during follow-up. Conclusion Lung ultrasound can assess the fluid volume change of pediatric dialysis patients in real time. Lung ultrasound could be a valuable method for monitoring dry weight in pediatric dialysis patients.

High-resolution ultrasonography (US) is utilized to quantify and distinguish muscle characteristics across multiple health care settings. Muscle US is reliable for the detection of architectural muscle changes in healthy individuals, [...], Objective. Previous studies have demonstrated that muscle ultrasound (US) can be reliably performed at the patient bedside by novice assessors with minimal training. The primary objective of this study was to determine the interrater reliability of muscle US image acquisition by physical therapists and physical therapist students. Secondarily, this study was designed to elucidate the process for training physical therapists to perform peripheral skeletal muscle US. Methods. This was a cross-sectional observational study. Four novices and 1 expert participated in the study. Novice sonographers engaged in a structured training program prior to implementation. US images were obtained on the biceps brachii, quadriceps femoris, and tibialis anterior muscles in 3 groups: patients in the intensive care unit, patients on the hospital ward, and participants in the outpatient gym who were healthy. Reliability of image acquisition was analyzed compared with the expert sonographer. Results. Intraclass correlation coefficient values ranged from 0.76 to 0.97 with an average for all raters and all muscles of 0.903, indicating excellent reliability of image acquisition. In general, the experienced physical therapist had higher or similar intraclass correlation coefficient values compared with the physical therapist students in relation to the expert sonographer. Conclusions. Excellent interrater reliability for US was observed regardless of the level of experience, severity of patient illness, or patient setting. These findings indicate that the use of muscle US by physical therapists can accurately capture reliable images in patients with a range of illness severity and different clinical practice settings across the continuum of care. Impact. Physical therapists can utilize US to obtain images to assess muscle morphology. Lay Summary. Physical therapists can use noninvasive US as an imaging tool to assess the size and quality of peripheral skeletal muscle. This study demonstrates that physical therapists can receive training to reliably obtain muscle images in patients admitted to the intensive care unit who may be at risk for muscle wasting and may benefit from early rehabilitation.

Methods The participants were 90 women referred to a hospital obstetric outpatient clinic due to current or recent substance use. The intervention group (n = 46) was offered three interactive ultrasounds at 24, 30 and 34 gestational weeks and a pregnancy diary accompanied by three prenatal infant mental health consultations. The intervention elements were designed to enhance parental mentalization and prenatal attachment. A randomized control group (n = 44) design was used. All participants were offered treatment-as-usual in the obstetric tertiary setting. Medical record data and meconium toxicology were analyzed. Results The retention rate in the whole sample was 89%. Retention was higher in the intervention group (96% vs. 82%, p < 0.05), of which 74% attended all three ultrasound sessions. However, the pregnant women in the intervention group participated less often in all the scheduled obstetric standard care visits (59% vs. 83%, p = 0.02). Fetal drug exposure and perinatal outcomes were similar in both groups. Within the whole sample, 13% of the neonates were preterm, 12% small for gestational age and 7% had exposure to drugs. Conclusions for Practice Retention in the intervention was very good. Watching the fetus with parenting focus seemed to motivate these high-risk women. Interestingly, the pregnant women in the intervention group tended to prefer the intervention sessions to the routine care. Clinical implications of this finding are discussed.
