BACKGROUND Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessively inherited disease. Clinical findings vary by age of the patient, the organ systems involved, and the severity of the CFTR gene mutation. Pancreatic and liver involvement is prominent and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is observed in the majority of patients. Point shear wave elastography (pSWE) is a non-invasive method that can quantitatively determine tissue elasticity and stiffness. In this study, the morphological evaluation of the pancreas was performed using the pSWE technique in pediatric patients diagnosed with CF. The effectiveness of this method for early detection of pancreatic insufficiency was investigated. METHODS Fifty-five patients with CF (24 girls, 31 boys) and 60 healthy children (29 girls, 31 boys) without any chronic diseases and who were suitable for the pSWE examination were included in the study. Background In December 2019, a novel type of coronavirus infection emerged in the Wuhan province of China and began to spread rapidly. In this study, we aimed to determine the differences between COVID‐19 disease and Influenza. Methods This retrospective study included 164 children with COVID‐19, as well as 46 children with Influenza. The two groups were compared with respect to clinical and laboratory parameters and the rates of intensive care and mechanical ventilation requirement. Results In both groups, the most common admission complaints were fever and cough. As compared to the COVID‐19 group, the Influenza group had significantly higher rates of cough (37 [80.4%] and 38 [23.2%]), fever (31 [67.4%] and 34 [20.7%]), muscle pain (34 [73.9%] and 31 [18.9%]), vomiting (13 [28.9%] and 8 [4.9%]) and tachypnea (32 [69.6%] and 3 [1.8%]) (P

Amaç: Böbrek biyopsisi, böbrek parankimal hastalıkların histopatolojik tanısının konulmasında sıklıkla kullanılan altın standart bir yöntemdir. Böbrek biyopsi kayıtları ile böbrek hastalıklarının epidemiyolojisi belirlenir. Literatürdeki çalışmalar incelendiğinde proteinüri en sık böbrek biyopsi endikasyonu olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Glomerulonefritler ise en sık (GN) görülen histopatolojik sonuçlar olmaktadır. GN histopatolojik alt tiplerinin dağılımı ise coğrafi bölge, yaş, etnik kökene göre değişebilmektedir. Bizde bu çalışmada bölgemizdeki böbrek biyopsi sonuçlarına göre erişkin nefropati profilini tespit etmeyi amaçladık. Çalışmanın sonuçları aynı zamanda GN olgularının yaş ve cinsiyete göre sıklığının belirlenmesine de yardımcı olacaktır. Yöntemler: Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nefroloji Kliniğinde Ocak 2011–Aralık 2017 yılları arasında ultrason eşliğinde perkütan böbrek biyopsisi yapılıp tanısı konulan 441 hastanın dosyası retrospektif olarak incelendi. Çalışmaya dahil edilen hastaların cinsiyet, yaş, biyopsi tarihi, histopatolojik tanısı değerlendirildi. Yıllara göre biyopsi yapılan hasta sayıları analiz edildi. Ayrıca cinsiyete ve yaşa göre biyopsi tanıları incelendi. Hastalar 18-39 yaş, 40-59 yaş ve 60 yaş üstü diye 3 gruba ayrıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların %53.7’si (n=237) erkek, %46.3 (n=204) kadındı. Ortalama yaş 37.4 olup erkeklerin yaş ortalaması 39.9, kadınların 34.5 yıl idi. Tüm yaş ve cinsiyet gruplarında en sık görülen histopatolojik tanılar FSGS (%21.8), Membranöz GN (%20.4) ve IgA Nefropatisi (%11.6) olup; erkeklerde en sık Membranöz GN (%21.9), kadınlarda en sık FSGS (%24) olarak saptandı. 18-39 yaş arası 225 hastada en sık FSGS, 40-59 yaş arası 164 hastada en sık Membranöz GN, 60 yaş üstü 52 hastada ise en sık KTIN tanısı konuldu. Sonuç: Bölgemizde erişkin böbrek biyopsi sonuçları göstermektedir ki FSGS, Membranöz GN ve IgA nefropatisi en sık görülen primer glomerülopatilerdir. Sekonder GN’ler içerisinde en sık Lupus Nefriti ve Amiloidoz görülmektedir. Yaşla birlikte glomeruler hastalıklar azalmaktayken, Kronik Tubulointertisyel hastalıkların ve Amiloidozun sıklığı artmaktadır. Çalışmamızdaki sonuçlar ülkemizdeki böbrek biyopsi verileri ile benzerdi.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) common and important clinical challenge, and renal ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury is the major reason of AKI. Renal I/R can lead to lung injury and increased mortality. Aims: This study was designed to evaluate whether paricalcitol may protect lung injury following renal I/R injury via its antioxidant properties. Methods: Rats (n=7 per group) were divided into four groups; control, paricalcitol, I/R, and paricalcitol+I/R. Rats were received daily intraperitoneal injection of paricalcitol (0.3 μg/kg) for 5 days in paricalcitol and paricalcitol+I/R groups. On day six, rats were subjected to I/R injury (60 minutes of left renal artery occlusion followed by 60 minutes of reperfusion) after right nephrectomy. Renal function tests, oxidant and antioxidant parameters, and lung histology of both groups were examined. Results: Rats treated with paricalcitol prior to ischemia reperfusion injury exhibited significant reduction in terms of serum and lung tissue malondialdehyde and totaloxidant status levels and significant increase in terms of serum and lung tissue nitric oxide and total antioxidant capacity levels levels (p Conclusions: Paricalcitol may ameliorate renal I/R induced lung injury by attenuating oxidative stress. Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the intracellular parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. Immunocompetent persons with primary infection are usually asymptomatic, but latent infection can persist for the life of the host. There is a risk of reactivating infection at a later time should the individual become immunocompromised, even if infection was asymptomatic or only mildly symptomatic initially. Axillary lymph nodes receive 85% of the lymphatic drainage from the breast. Lymph node metastases are relatively common even with invasive breast cancers ≤1 cm in size. Here, we report a case of toxoplasma lymphadenitis in a female adult patient mimicking a malign breast lymphadenopathy of a left breast mass.
