This study is a qualitative analysis of fathers' experiences of preterm birth. Preterm birth affects about ten per cent of the families globally. It is a traumatic event, especially when the infant is very preterm. Often, parents are struggling with the experience without any psychological support. Though fathers' role in the child's healthy psychological development has been confirmed by recent studies, the impact of preterm birth on their paternal identity and their needs for support in this emotionally burdening situation has not been studied extensively. We analysed ten interviews using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, a method to study sensitive themes to determine the key themes as potential areas of intervention. We could find that these fathers live their lives in extended liminality, characterized by chaos and unpredictability, and are struggling with new, often unusual roles and responsibilities that may completely upset their private life – work balance. The first contact with the child is usually ambivalent and is burdened with grave concerns about the potential harms. Communication at Perinatal Intensive Care Units (PICUs), though seen as supportive, is not tailored to fathers' competencies. Targeted intervention by trained counsellors at PICU could help the fathers overcome these traumatizing experiences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary malignant tumor, constitutes approximately one quarter of all primary bone sarcomas. Surgical margins in pelvic chondrosarcoma have a direct impact as a prognostic factor, both on overall survival and on recurrence-free survival of this disease. Objectives: to analyze the impact of surgical margins as a prognostic factor in pelvic chondrosarcoma. Material and methods: a retrospective database cohort with prospective follow-up of sarcomas in patients diagnosed with primary pelvic chondrosarcoma who underwent surgical treatment. Clinical-demographic variables were obtained, a descriptive analysis of each variable was performed, and these were contrasted with the outcome variables. Results: seventeen patients were included, of which nine were female. The median age was 41 years, ranging from 23 to 65 years. The average tumor size was 20.9 cm (range 5 to 46 cm). The average surgical margin was 5.3 mm, ranging from 1 to 30 mm, with 58% positive margins. The average overall survival was 64 months (range 7 to 108 months). The distribution of pelvic involvement was as follows: zone I in nine patients (52.9%), zone II in two (11.8%), a combination of zones I-III in two (11.8%), I+II in one (5.9%), II+III in one (5.9%), I-III plus sacrum in one (5.9%) and I plus sacrum in one (5.9%). Tumor grades were classified as low in seven patients (41.2%), intermediate in sven (41.2%), high in two (11.8%), and dedifferentiated in one (5.9%). Regarding the type of resection, 12 patients (70.6%) underwent internal hemipelvectomy and five (29.4%) external hemipelvectomy. Recurrence was recorded in five cases (29.4%), metastasis in three (17.6%), and mortality in four (23.5%). Conclusions: this series represents the largest cohort reported in Latin America of primary pelvic chondrosarcomas. A more favorable prognosis was observed in patients with surgical margins greater than 1 mm. The presence of chondrosarcoma in multiple pelvic zones was associated with a worse oncological prognosis. Additionally, a higher incidence of positive surgical margins and local recurrence rates were identified in pelvic chondrosarcomas compared to those located in the extremities. Objective. Circumcision is one of the most common surgical procedures in pediatric surgery. Even though manual suture (MANS) is regarded as the gold standard technique, easy-to-use mechanical suture (MECS) devices have been recently developed, with better postoperative results in the adult population. The objective of our study was to compare the operating time and incidence of postoperative complications between both techniques in our environment. Materials and methods. A retrospective study of patients undergoing circumcision in our institution from October 2021 to December 2022 was carried out. Operating time and complications observed in the first 14 postoperative days (edema, hematoma, dehiscence) were analyzed according to the technique used (MANS vs. MECS) and patient age (< 12 and ≥ 12 years old). Results. 173 patients (147 MANS, 26 MECS) were included. Mean operating time was significantly lower in MECS patients, both in patients < 12 years old (16 min vs. 10 min, p= 0.002) and in patients ≥ 12 years old (23 min vs. 12 min, p< 0.001). Regarding complications, MECS patients ≥ 12 years old had a lower rate of suture dehiscence (23.5% vs. 0%, p< 0.001), with no significant differences in the younger group. Conclusions. MECS circumcision is a simple and effective technique involving shorter operating times than MANS circumcision, regardless of age. It has a lower rate of complications in older children (≥ 12 years), which means it stands as a valid alternative to the conventional technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drug use and gambling are major problems in today's society. Many studies have found that school variables are related to drug use and gambling, but the persistence of such relationships in adulthood is still little-known. Therefore, the aim of this study was to discover if these school variables are related to substance use and gambling in both adolescence and adulthood through a retrospective study. A sample of 416 people resident in Spain between 18 and 50 years old was used. Results showed that having a good academic performance and a positive school environment act as protective factors for substance use. A high rate of truancy and disruptive classroom behaviors are risk factors for drug use and gambling. This relationship not only appears in adolescence, it also continues into adulthood. Purpose: Determine the frequency of histopathological diagnoses of 1978 biopsies of oral lesions in a period of 20 years in the city of Cali, Colombia. Methods: A retrospective descriptive observational study was conducted on 1978 histopathological diagnoses of biopsies of lesions in the oral cavity carried out during the period 2000-2022. The research is carried out in compliance with ethical requirements. The information was obtained from the records of biopsy reports of two oral pathologists from the city of Cali, the data collection was conducted by the seedbeds of 3 universities in Cali previously trained and calibrated. The information was unified in a single Excel database, the inclusion criteria were any age, any sex and complete reports. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed with the IBM SPSS Statics program. Results: Of the 1978 reports, 39 % corresponded to the male gender and 61% to the female gender. The average age was 45.33 ± 17.5 (Range 2-93). The most frequent histopathological diagnosis was hyperplasia (23.8 %), followed by granulomas (15.07 %). The gum (17.09 %), the periapical area (16.03 %) and the lips (13.30 %) were the sites that reported the most lesions. Histologically, connective tissue (51.82 %) and epithelial tissue (25.63 %) were the most reported, and the excisional biopsy technique was the most used (79.22 %). Conclusion: Hyperplastic oral lesions were the most frequent, they occurred more in women, in any site of the oral cavity and at any age. Se presentan las principales modificaciones que, a lo largo de la historia, ha presentado la verificación de las predicciones emitidas por el Centro de Pronósticos del Tiempo. Para ello se realizó un estudio retrospectivo basado en el análisis documental como parte del método histórico-lógico e inductivo-deductivo. Fueron utilizados los resultados diarios y los resúmenes mensuales de la efectividad de las predicciones válidos para 24 horas en el periodo 1978-2020, disponibles en formato impreso, digital y en base de datos. También se emplearon algunas fuentes bibliográficas, manuales de procedimientos y notas de la época. Las modificaciones detectadas se agruparon en tres grandes grupos: metodología, regionalización y softwares. Las variaciones metodológicas estuvieron relacionadas con la verificación de las temperaturas extremas, la dirección y fuerza del viento, principalmente en el umbral de la velocidad del viento en situaciones de calma, variable y brisa, así como con el rango de permisibilidad de los pronósticos de las temperaturas extremas. Se encontraron ocho regionalizaciones que van desde distribuciones con tres regiones de pronósticos hasta otras con seis. Se detectaron tres softwares de verificación.

A didactic sequence designed to facilitate the understanding of the tides phenomenon and involve participants in modeling processes is presented. This involves the construction, revision and reconstruction of models, as well as reflection on their nature and their role in the teaching of science. The objective of this article is to describe and characterize said sequence, as well as its implementation in the classroom. This one follows the guidelines set by design based research: preparatory stage, two-cycle implantation stage, and retrospective study. The results of the preparatory study reaffirmed the difficulties in teaching and learning this topic: the teachers in the interviews showed its complexity in different areas, the analysis of the textbooks detected possible written and visual improvements, and the previous questionnaires identified in the students' initial ideas were far removed from the school science model. Regarding implementation, the proposed progression trajectory turned out to be appropriate, as was the organization of activities within the framework of modeling. In addition, improvements were obtained in the results of the second implementation cycle. Finally, the retrospective analysis involved the realization of two main types of changes in the initial sequence and detected a progression in the models of most of the students. Se presenta una secuencia didáctica diseñada para facilitar la comprensión del fenómeno de las mareas e involucrar a los participantes en procesos de modelización. Esto implica la construcción, revisión y reconstrucción de modelos, así como la reflexión en torno a su naturaleza y su papel en la enseñanza de la ciencia. El objetivo de este artículo es describir y caracterizar dicha secuencia, así como su implementación en el aula. Ésta sigue las pautas marcadas en las investigaciones de diseño: etapa preparatoria, etapa de implementación de dos ciclos y estudio retrospectivo. Los resultados del estudio preparatorio reafirmaron las dificultades en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de este tema: los profesores en las entrevistas mostraron su complejidad en diferentes ámbitos; el análisis de los libros de texto detectó posibles mejoras escritas y visuales, y los cuestionarios previos identificaron en los estudiantes ideas iniciales alejadas del modelo de ciencia escolar. En cuanto a la implementación, la trayectoria de progresión propuesta resultó ser apropiada, al igual que la organización de las actividades en el marco de la modelización. Además, se obtuvieron mejoras en los resultados del segundo ciclo de implementación. Por último, el análisis retrospectivo conllevó la realización de dos grandes tipos de cambios en la secuencia inicial y detectó una progresión en los modelos de la mayoría de los estudiantes.

Abstract: The intestinal helminth infections that affect man are intimately linked to ecological, human and / or social conditions that may or not allow their persistence. The objective of the present study was to present the casuistry of the intestinal helminth infections that were diagnosed in the Clinical Laboratory of the Ambulatory Urban III Los Curos between the years 2012 to 2015. For that purpose, a retrospective investigation was carried out where they were studied for the period laboratory records were evaluated. The results evidenced 61.7% of parasitized individuals, 1.9% with some helminth (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Strongyloides stercoralis, Enterobius vermicularis, Hymenolepis nana or Ancylostomideos). There was no difference between the presence of helminths and the demographic parameters age or sex. It is concluded that the ecoepidemiological conditions of Los Curos are not sufficiently adequate for the maintenance of intestinal helminth infections. Resumen: Las infecciones helmínticas intestinales que afectan al hombre están íntimamente ligadas a condiciones ecológicas, humanas y/o sociales que pueden favorecer o no su persistencia. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue presentar la casuística de las infecciones helmínticas intestinales que se diagnosticaron en el Laboratorio Clínico Asistencial del Ambulatorio Urbano Tipo III Los Curos entre los años 2012 a 2015. Para tal fin se realizó una investigación retrospectiva donde se estudiaron para el período evaluado los registros del laboratorio. Los resultados evidenciaron 61,7% de individuos parasitadas, 1,9% con algún helminto (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Strongyloides stercoralis, Enterobius vermicularis, Hymenolepis nana o Ancylostomideos). No se evidenció diferencia entre la presencia de helmintos y los parámetros demográficos edad o género. Se concluye que las condiciones ecoepidemiológicas de Los Curos no son lo suficientemente aptas para el mantenimiento de infecciones helmínticas intestinales.

The aim of the present study was to analyse the differences in certain basic mathematical competences (for example, counting, logical operations, magnitude comparability skills) assessed in. Early Childhood Education between children with persistent difficulties in the area of mathematics in 2nd Primary Education and children with adequate performance. The final sample of the study consisted of 180 children (composed initially of 209 pre-schoolers), of which 6.6% showed persistent mathematics difficulties (n = 12) and 45.5% presented an adequate performance in both measurements (n = 82). In Early Childhood Education we administered counting, logical operations (seriation, classification, conservation and numerical inclusion) and comparison of magnitudes (symbolic and non-symbolic) of the TEDI-MATH test (Grégoire, Noël, Van Nieuwenhoven, 2005). Results evidenced differences in 4 of the 8 basic mathematical competences analysed in Early Childhood Education, with especially significant effects on the ability to compare symbolic numbers and to manage verbal numerical sequence. The implications of these findings for psychoeducational research and practice are discussed.

Objectives: To describe the prevalence and characteristics of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) in CT scans performed prior to the initiation of antifibrotics in a series of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD), and to identify characteristics apparent on early CT scans that could help to predict outcomes., Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study. The original cohort consisted of 101 patients diagnosed with ILD and treated with antifibrotics in a tertiary hospital. Patients were included if they had a thoracic CT scan performed at least one year before initiation of therapy. They were classified radiologically in three groups: without ILA, with radiological ILA and extensive abnormalities. ILA were classified as subpleural fibrotic, subpleural non-fibrotic and non-subpleural. The initial scan and the latest CT scan performed before treatment were read for assessing progression. The relationship between CT findings of fibrosis and the radiological progression rate and mortality were analyzed., Results: We included 50 patients. Only 1 (2%) had a normal CT scan, 25 (50%) had extensive alterations and 24 (48%) had radiological criteria for ILA, a median of 98.2 months before initiation of antifibrotics, of them 18 (75%) had a subpleural fibrotic pattern. Significant bronchiectasis and obvious honeycombing in the lower zones were associated with shorter survival (p = 0.04). Obvious honeycombing in the lower zones was also significantly (p < 0.05) associated with a faster progression rate., Conclusions: Fibrotic ILAs are frequent in remote scans of patients with clinically relevant ILD, long before they require antifibrotics. Findings of traction bronchiectasis and honeycombing in the earliest scans, even in asymptomatic patients, are related to mortality and progression later on., (Copyright © 2023 SERAM. El objetivo del presente estudio consistió en examinar las diferencias en las funciones ejecutivas de inhibición y memoria de trabajo (MT) evaluadas en Educación Infantil entre sujetos con dificultades persistentes en el área de matemáticas en 2º de Educación Primaria y niños con un rendimiento adecuado. La muestra final del estudio estuvo conformada por 180 niños (inicialmente compuesta por 209 preescolares), de los cuales un 6.6% presentaron dificultades matemáticas persistentes (n = 12) y el 45.5% mostraron un rendimiento adecuado en ambas mediciones (n = 82). En Educación Infantil, se administraron seis tareas neuropsicológicas relacionadas con las funciones ejecutivas de inhibición, MT verbal y MT viso-espacial. Los resultados evidenciaron diferencias en 5 de las 6 tareas aplicadas en el primer momento de evaluación, con efectos especialmente importantes para las funciones ejecutivas de inhibición y MT verbal. Se comentan las implicaciones de estos hallazgos para la investigación y la práctica psicoeducativa.

Background: Psittacosis is a relatively uncommon cause of community-acquired pneumonia, often leading to diagnostic difficulty., Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on the clinical features of psittacosis patients in China. Forty-six cases of Chlamydophila psittaci infection with atypical pneumonia of varying severity in the last two years were described retrospectively., Results: Fever, relative bradycardia, and other systemic upsets were the main clinical presentation. The most common radiographic abnormality was segmental or lobar shadowing or consolidation. The total white cell counts were usually normal or slightly increased. The concentration of creatine kinase, C reactive protein, and lactic dehydrogenase increased, while albumin decreased remarkably. These cases exhibited good recovery after being treated with tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics., Conclusion: These features may help differentiate psittacosis from other traditional bacterial pneumonia. However, they do not provide a definitive diagnosis. Psittacosis diagnosis must perform the whole-genome sequencing for Chlamydophila psittaci in respiratory, blood, or sputum specimens. Abstract Objectives The course and long-term outcome of pure membranous lupus nephritis (MLN) are little understood. The aims of this study are to evaluate the clinical features, course, outcome and prognostic indicators in pure MLN and to determine the impact of ethnicity and the type of health insurance on the course and prognosis of pure MLN. Methods We conducted a retrospective review of medical records of 150 patients with pure MLN from Spain and the USA. Results Mean age was 34.2 ± 12.5 and 80% were women. Sixty-eight percent of patients had nephrotic syndrome at diagnosis. The average serum creatinine was 0.98 ± 0.78 mg/dl. Six percent of patients died and 5.3% developed end-stage renal disease (ESRD). ESRD was predicted by male sex, hypertension, dyslipidemia, high basal 24 h-proteinuria, high basal serum creatinine and a low basal creatinine clearance. Age, cardiac insufficiency, peripheral artheriopathy, hemodialysis and not having received mycophenolate mofetil or antimalarials for MLN predicted death. Conclusions Pure MLN frequently presents with nephrotic syndrome, high proteinuria and normal serum creatinine. Its prognosis is favourable in maintaining renal function although proteinuria usually persists over time. Abstract Background No reliable data are available in the province of Buenos Aires regarding the frequency of dermatophytoses and other fungal diseases. The distribution of the clinical forms and the species involved are also unknown. Aims To present the data collected by the laboratories participating in the Mycology Network of the province of Buenos Aires (MNPBA) from a retrospective epidemiological survey on dermatophytoses. Methods A descriptive and exploratory analysis was performed on the cases of dermatophytoses gathered between 2002 and 2007 by the Mycology Network of the province of Buenos Aires. Results Of the 3966 dermatophytosis cases reported by 41 laboratories in 31 municipalities, more than a half occurred in three highly populated urban municipalities. The male:female ratio was 1:1.5. The most frequent clinical form was tinea unguium, diagnosed in 904 cases (51.83%), followed by tinea capitis (19.32%), tinea corporis (15.19%), tinea pedis (6.77%), tinea cruris (3.73%), and tinea manuum (2.18%). The species involved was identified in 1368 (33.49%) cases. Trichophyton rubrum was the most common species, with a frequency of 42.03%. An association was found between urban municipalities and T. rubrum or the Trichophyton mentagrophytes complex. Conclusions Results from the MNPBA survey provide valuable information that should enable further interventions to be designed in order to prevent and control the disease. Resumen Antecedentes No existen datos fiables acerca de la frecuencia de las dermatofitosis y otras enfermedades fúngicas en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Por otra parte, la distribución en la provincia de las formas clínicas y las especies involucradas no es conocida. Objetivos El objetivo de este estudio fue reportar los datos recogidos por los laboratorios que participan en la Red de Micología de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (MNPBA) a través del análisis de encuestas epidemiológicas retrospectivas sobre casos notificados de dermatofitosis. Métodos Se realizó un análisis descriptivo y exploratorio de los casos de dermatofitosis recogidos por los laboratorios de la Red de Micología de la provincia de Buenos Aires durante un período de 6 años (2002-2007). Resultados Se registraron 3.966 casos procedentes de 41 laboratorios distribuidos en 31 municipios. Más de la mitad de los casos tuvieron lugar en tres municipios urbanos muy poblados. La proporción varón:mujer fue de 1:1,5. La forma clínica más frecuente fue tinea unguium, diagnosticada en 904 casos (51,83%), seguida de tinea capitis (19,32%), tinea corporis (15,19%), tinea pedis (6,77%), tinea cruris (3,73%) y tinea manuum (2,18%). La identificación de las especies de dermatofitos se realizó en 1.368 casos (33,49%). La especie predominante fue Trichophyton rubrum (42,03%). Se observó asociación entre los municipios de alta densidad poblacional y la presencia de T. rubrum y del complejo de especies Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Conclusiones Los resultados de las encuestas de MNPBA generan información de calidad que permite el diseño de nuevas intervenciones para la prevención y control de estas micosis. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de 67 pacientes con neoplasias astrogliales malignas operados en el Instituto de Neurología y Neurocirugía (INN) entre los años 1983 y 1992. Se analizaron los factores epidemiológicos, clínicos, imagenológicos y del tratamiento que influyeron en la evolución de estos casos. La media del tiempo de supervivencia fue de 17,8 meses. El defecto motor, los trastornos de la esfera psíquica, el desplazamiento de las estructuras de la línea media, el edema peritumoral y la irregularidad de los bordes de la lesión fueron los elementos clínicos y tomográficos más frecuentes. Su presencia tuvo una relación negativa con la sobrevida. La edad menor de 40 años, la alta graduación de Karnofsky inicial, y el empleo de radioterapia y quimioterapia estuvieron relacionados con un incremento de la supervivencia. No se encontró significación entre el tipo de tratamiento quirúrgico realizado, la clasificación histopatológica del tumor y el tiempo de sobrevidaA retrospective study was conducted in 67 patients with malignant astroglial neoplasia who were operated on at the Neurology and Neurosurgery Institute (NNI) between 1983 and 1992. We analyzed the epidemiological, clinical, imaging and of treatment factors influencing on the evolution of these cases. Survival mean time was 17.8 months. Motor defect, psychic sphere disorders, displacement of median line structures, peritumor edema, and the irregularity of the borders of the lesion were the most frequent tomographic and clinical elements. Their presence had a negative relation to survival. Age under 40, initial Karnofsky scale high graduation, and the use of radiotherapy and chemotherapy were related to survival increase. Fattening lambs in raised slatted floor cages systems has the advantage of clean and dryer facilities than allows a healthy environment, good ventilation, less parasite burden, protection from predation, reduced energy expenditure and best microclime for the animals; however, there is a lack on information about productive performance of lambs in such systems. Identifying factors affecting productive performance of the fattening lambs in raised slatted floor cages systems are crucial to improve their productivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of farm, year and year-season on some productive variables of lambs fattening in raised slatted floor cages in the subhumid tropic of Mexico. From a total of 882 male lambs of four farm (farm A, n = 166; farm B, n = 122; farm C, n = 350; farm D, n = 244) post-weaning daily weight gain (ADG), final body weight (FBW) and days of feedlot (DF) were analyzed. The statistical model included the fixed effects of farm (A, B, C and D), year-season (rainy and dry) and years (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013) on ADG, FBW and DF. The model included the initial body weight as covariate. The overall means for GDP, PCF and DF were 263 g, 35 kg and 77 days, respectively. The farm affected (P < 0.001) all evaluated variables. The year-season affected (P < 0.001) PCF and DF, but not ADG. The year affected (P < 0.001) all evaluated variables. The interaction farm x year-season affected (P < 0.001) FBW and DF, but not ADG. In conclusion, the productive performance of lambs fattened in raised slatted floor cages in the subhumid tropic of Mexico, is affected for farm, year and partiality for year-season and interaction farm x year-season. Objective: To evaluate the periodicity of hyaluronic acid (HA) reinjection in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Secondary aim: To relate the degree of arthrosis with the time between infiltrations and the possible study by subgroups between the different commercial preparations., Design: Retrospective observational study., Materials and Method: Review of medical records and X-rays of patients with knee osteoarthritis that had been treated with intra-articular HA at the Rehabilitation Service in the period between January 2017 and June 2019., Variables: Socio-demographic, Laterality, Intervention Date, Degree of Arthrosis according to Kellgren and Lawrence, HA used, Time between filtrations. Statistical analysis carried out by Kaplan-Meier curves, taking into account the reinfiltration as final event, and Kruskal-Wallis test for non-parametric quantitative data., Results: We analysed 110 infiltration acts in 67 patients: average age at the time of infiltration 72.12 years, 85.1% women, 59.1% right knee. 4 types of HA: 33 cases at 1%. MW: 0.9MDa (HA1), 12 at 1.5%. MW: 1.5-2MDa (HA2), 42 at 2%. MW: 1.2MDa (HA3) and 6 Hylan G-F20. MW: 6MDa (HA4). We reinfiltrated in 31 occasions (28.2%). Average of months (IC 95%) between infiltrations: HA1 6.9 (5.7-8.16), HA2 12.5 (0-35), HA3 9.3 (5.5-13.1), HA4 5 (3-6.9). In 2 cases where it was not possible to establish the type of infiltrated formulations, the mean value between reinfiltrations was 8.5 (5.6-11.4) There were no statistically significant results by relating the HA type or the degree of arthrosis with the reinfiltration time., Conclusions: In our study, we observe that the HA3 presented a longer time between infiltrations in comparison with other types, with no possibility to detect significant differences., (Copyright © 2022 Sociedad Española de Rehabilitación y Medicina Física. Objective: To characterize the time in therapeutic range (TTR) and estimate the incidence rate of complications (PTIRc) in adults with warfarin protocol., Design: Retrospective cohort based on medical records of patients older than 18years, between 1996 and 2016 and followed for at least three months. SITE: Hematology unit of a Venezuelan specialized cardiovascular center., Participants: Electronic health record., Main Measurements: TTR and PTIRc. The variables were sex, functional illiteracy, occupation, International Normalized Ratio (INR) and follow-up time, which were analyzed with TTR and PTIRc using binomial logistic and Poisson regression models, respectively., Results: 2,770 patients were followed up for a total of 1,201,380 days, 42.3% had a TTR<65% and 3.5% had INR 2.5-3.5. 61.8% had complications. PTIRc was 6.84/100 person-months (95%CI: 6.56-7.15). TTR<65% showed significant adjusted OR with functional illiteracy and INR 2.5-3.5, while for higher PTIRc a significant RR was found in the two factors mentioned, shorter follow-up time, TTR<65% and in women., Conclusions: Despite new anticoagulant treatments, warfarin is useful. As follow-up time increased, control was better and the rate of occurrence of complications decreased; however, the conditions that showed lower TTR and higher rate of occurrence of complications require a thorough review of follow-up especially in patients with functional illiteracy., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. The present study was conducted to explore the relationship between victimisation during secondary school and aspects of current psychosocial functioning in university students. One hundred and sixty-one university students from Talavera de la Reina answered a self report questionnaire on retrospective bullying experiences and psychosocial functioning (self-concept, social support and perceived stress) during their school time. Results show that their recall of bullying experiences is consistent with other epidemiological data gathered in Spain. In addition, those who suffered more frequently from bullying scored lower on self-concept and social support, but not higher on perceived stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives To describe the pattern of incident illness in children after initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in a large public health sector programme in Lusaka, Zambia. Methods Systematic chart review to retrospectively extract data from medical records of children (i.e. <15 years) initiating ART in the Lusaka, Zambia public sector. Incident conditions were listed separately and then grouped according to broad categories. Predictors for incident diagnoses were determined using univariate and multivariable analysis. Results Between May 2004 and June 2006, 1705 HIV-infected children initiated ART. Of these, 1235 (72%) had their medical records reviewed. Median age at ART initiation was 77 months and 554 (45%) were females. Eight hundred and forty-one (68%) children had an incident condition during this period, with a median time of occurrence of 64 days from ART initiation. Twenty-eight incident conditions were documented. When categorized, the most common were mucocutaneous conditions [incidence rate (IR): 70.6 per 100 child-years, 95% CI: 64.5–77.2] and upper respiratory tract infection (IR: 70.1 per 100 child-years; 95% CI: 64.0–76.7). Children with severe immunosuppression (i.e. CD4 < 10%) were more likely to develop lower respiratory tract infection (16.3% vs. 10.2%; P = 0.003) and mucocutaneous conditions (43.9% vs. 35.3%; P = 0.005) than those with CD4 ≥ 10%. Conclusion There is a high incidence of new illness after ART initiation, emphasizing the importance of close monitoring during this period. Early initiation of ART and use of antimicrobial prophylaxis may also help to reduce the occurrence of such co-morbidities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reveals the results of a descriptive investigation, which aim to describe by mean of retrospective method experiences of bullying and other forms of abuse within 648, freshmen students of a private university. The conclusions show that around 41.8% of the students were witnesses of this situation, 12% confessed that they were bullied o bullied someone else, 4.8% remembers to be a victim and other 13% claims to be both a victim and an aggressor. It can be said that bullying increases as students reach high school, yet many of the victims decide to remain silent, due to the fear of exclusion and retaliation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary target of this study was to determine the level of individual elements protection use, in the diverse areas of work of the polled veterinarian in Argentine, as well as the ambient state of maintenance of work, related it to the frequency of pathologies displayed. The retrospective studies of the surveys made to veterinarians in professional exercise, during years 2003 to the 2006 inclusively, revealed events where injuries were taken place and labor diseases that affect workers quality of life. Activities like rectal tact, produced labor injuries in 11,5 % of the polled veterinarians, mainly due to traumas caused by animals. The acute Brucellosis was notified in 4,3 % of the total of received surveys, whereas 12,2 % were notified like chronic brucellosis. In this profession of risk, the development of strategies for diminishing labor dangers, sensitizing businessmen, professionals, students and workers from diverse sectors, is necessary to establish priorities in the use of elements of personal protection, the correct use of the material and work installations.
