This study focuses on analyzing face attacks in the conflict discourse of cross-linguistic online chats on the instant message application WeChat among a group of international students at a prestigious university in China. Drawing on the previous impoliteness theory of Leech and Culpeper, this article selectively combines these two theories and proposes that in face-attack studies, especially with respect to online discourses, impolite multimodal discourse should be considered and subsumed in the theoretical framework. It is found that a wide array of face attacks in conflict discourse manifest themselves both in verbal discourse as well as in multimodal counterparts. The present study might shed light on online impoliteness research that is beyond monolingual and single-mode contexts.

Abstract Reading difficulty (RD) is associated with phonological deficits; however, it remains unknown whether the phonological deficits are different in children and adults with RD as reflected in foreign speech perception and production. In the current study, using functional Near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), we found less difference between Chinese adults and Chinese children in the RD groups than the control groups in the activation of the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) during Spanish speech perception, suggesting slowed development in these regions associated with RD. Furthermore, using multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA), we found that activation patterns in the left middle temporal gyrus (MTG), premotor, supplementary motor area (SMA), and IFG could serve as reliable markers of RD. We provide both behavioral and neurological evidence for impaired speech perception and production in RD readers which can serve as markers of RD.

Abstract There is limited evidence regarding the effects of long‐term exposure to PM2.5 constituents on the risk of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and the interaction between PM2.5 and green space remains unclear. This study examined the relationship between long‐term exposure to PM2.5 constituents and the risk of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, with the exposure period extending from recruitment until self‐reported outcomes, death, loss to follow‐up, or end of follow‐up. Additionally, the study assessed whether there was an interactive effect between PM2.5 and green space on these risks. We gathered cohort data on 18,649 individuals aged ≥45 years. We applied generalized linear mixed‐effects models to estimate the effects of PM2.5 constituents, NDVI, and their interaction on arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The quantile g‐computation and weighted quantile sum regression model were applied to estimate the combined effect of PM2.5 constituents. Our results showed that exposure to single and mixed PM2.5 constituents adversely affected arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and was mainly attributed to the black carbon component. We observed “U” or “J” shaped exposure‐response curves for the effects of PM2.5, OM, NO3− and NH4+ exposure on the development of arthritis/rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, the odds ratio of arthritis for per interquartile range (IQR) increase in PM2.5 was 1.209 (95% CI:1.198, 1.221), per 0.1‐unit decrease in NDVI was 1.091 (95% CI:1.033, 1.151), and the interaction term was 1.005 (95% CI:1.002, 1.007). These findings flesh out the existing evidence for PM2.5 constituents, NDVI and arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, but the underlying mechanisms still require further exploration.

Background: Ambient air pollution might serve as a prognostic factor for ovarian cancer (OC) survival, yet the relationships between plant-based diet indices (PDIs) and OC survival remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the associations of comprehensive air pollution and PDIs with OC survival and explored the effects of air pollution-diet interactions. Methods: The present study encompassed 658 patients diagnosed with OC. The overall plant-based diet index (PDI), the healthful PDI (hPDI), and the unhealthful PDI (uPDI) were evaluated by a self-reported validated food frequency questionnaire. In addition, an air pollution score (APS) was formulated by summing the concentrations of particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less, ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. Cox proportional hazard models were applied to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). The potential interactions of APS with PDIs in relation to overall survival (OS) were assessed on both multiplicative and additive scales. Results: Throughout a median follow-up of 37.60 (interquartile: 24.77–50.70) months, 123 deaths were confirmed. Abstract Background Numerous meta-analyses have explored the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and diverse health outcomes, yet the comprehensive assessment of the scope, validity, and quality of this evidence remains incomplete. Our aim was to systematically review and synthesise existing meta-analyses of TyG index and health outcomes and to assess the quality of the evidence. Methods A thorough search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases was conducted from their inception through to 8 April 2024. We assessed the quality of reviews using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) and the certainty of the evidence using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. Introduction Coronary microcirculation dysfunction (CMD) is prevalent in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Current therapies for CMD are focused on pharmacotherapy, non-pharmacological treatments such as enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) have shown favourable results in patients with CAD. However, whether EECP can improve CMD remains unknown. This study is designed to evaluate the effectiveness of EECP on CMD in patients with CAD, and to assess the feasibility of conducting a multicentre randomised controlled trial.Methods and analysis This study is a single-centre, outcome-assessor-blinded, parallel randomised controlled trial. A total of 110 participants with CAD will be included and randomly assigned to either the intervention group (EECP plus optimal medical therapy (OMT)) or the control group (OMT alone). EECP will be administered by operators for 60 min, 5 times per week for 7 weeks (35 times in total). Outcomes include patients’ retention rates, the primary outcome and secondary outcomes. The primary outcome is the change in Myocardial Perfusion Reserve Index with cardiac MRI from baseline to the end of follow-up. The planned study duration is from 2024 to 2026.Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (ID: 2023-045-03). Abstract Platinum-based chemotherapy remains one of the major choices for treatment of ovarian cancer (OC). However, primary or acquired drug resistance severely impairs their efficiency, thereby causing chemotherapy failure and poor prognosis. SH3 domain containing ring finger 2 (SH3RF2) has been linked to the development of cancer. Here we find higher levels of SH3RF2 in the tumor tissues from cisplatin-resistant OC patients when compared to those from cisplatin-sensitive patients. Similarly, cisplatin-resistant OC cells also express higher levels of SH3RF2 than normal OC cells. Through in vitro and in vivo loss-of-function experiments, SH3RF2 is identified as a driver of cisplatin resistance, as evidenced by increases in cisplatin-induced cell apoptosis and DNA damage and decreases in cell proliferation induced by SH3RF2 depletion. Mechanistically, SH3RF2 can directly bind to the RNA-binding protein mRNA processing factor (RBPMS). RBPMS has been reported as an inhibitor of cisplatin resistance in OC. As a E3 ligase, SH3RF2 promotes the K48-linked ubiquitination of RBPMS to increase its proteasomal degradation and activator protein 1 (AP-1) transactivation. Impairments in RBPMS function reverse the inhibitory effect of SH3RF2 depletion on cisplatin resistance. Collectively, the SH3RF2-RBPMS-AP-1 axis is an important regulator in cisplatin resistance and inhibition of SH3RF2 may be a potential target in preventing cisplatin resistance.

Phytochemical investigations of Melia azedarach fruits have led to the isolation of a novel tirucallane triterpenoid (1), four new limonoids (2–5), and four known limonoids (6–9). Their structures were clarified by comprehensive spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses. The anti-inflammatory activities of isolated compounds were assessed in vitro. Compound 2 exhibited the most potent anti-inflammatory effect, with an IC50 value of 22.04 μM. Additionally, compound 2 attenuated LPS-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and reduced the levels of inflammatory mediators IL-6 and TNF-α. A mechanistic study revealed that limonoid 2 suppresses the expression of iNOS and JAK2 and is implicated in the modulation of the NF-κB signaling cascade, which reveals its anti-inflammatory actions.

Crack growth analysis is essential for probabilistic damage tolerance assessment of aeroengine life-limited parts. Traditional crack growth models directly establish the stress ratio–crack growth rate or crack opening stress relationship and focus less on changes in the crack tip stress field and its influence, so the resolution and accuracy of maneuvering flight load spectral analysis are limited. To improve the accuracy and convenience of analysis, a parameter considering the effect of unloading amount on crack propagation resistance is proposed, and the corresponding analytical model is established. The corresponding process for acquiring the model parameters through the constant amplitude test data of a Ti-6AL-4V compact tension specimen is presented. Six kinds of flight load spectra with inserted load pairs with different stress ratios and repetition times are tested to verify the accuracy of the proposed model. All the deviations between the proposed model and test life results are less than 10%, which demonstrates the superiority of the proposed model over the crack closure and Walker-based models in addressing relevant loading spectra. The proposed analytical model provides new insights for the safety of aeroengine life-limited parts.

Introduction: Air pollution is speculated to increase the risk of Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Nevertheless, the results remain inconsistent and inconclusive. This study aimed to explore the association between ambient air pollution (AAP) and COVID-19 risks using a meta-analysis with meta-regression modelling. Methods: The inclusion criteria were: original studies quantifying the association using effect sizes and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs); time-series, cohort, ecological or case-crossover peer-reviewed studies in English. Exclusion criteria encompassed non-original studies, animal studies, and data with common errors. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Google Scholar electronic databases were systemically searched for eligible literature, up to 31, March 2023. The risk of bias (ROB) was assessed following the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality parameters. A random-effects model was used to calculate pooled risk ratios (RRs) and their 95 % CIs. Results: A total of 58 studies, between 2020 and 2023, met the inclusion criteria. The global representation was skewed, with major contributions from the USA (24.1 %) and China (22.4 %). The distribution included studies on short-term (43.1 %) and long-term (56.9 %) air pollution exposure. Ecological studies constituted 51.7 %, time-series-27.6 %, cohorts-17.2 %, and case crossover-3.4 %. ROB assessment showed low (86.2 %) and moderate (13.8 %) risk. The COVID-19 incidences increased with a 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 [RR = 4.9045; 95 % CI (4.1548–5.7895)], PM10 [RR = 2.9427: (2.2290–3.8850)], NO2 [RR = 3.2750: (3.1420–3.4136)], SO2 [RR = 3.3400: (2.7931–3.9940)], CO [RR = 2.6244: (2.5208–2.7322)] and O3 [RR = 2.4008: (2.1859–2.6368)] concentrations. A 10 μg/m3 increase in concentrations of PM2.5 [RR = 3.0418: (2.7344–3.3838)], PM10 [RR = 2.6202: (2.1602–3.1781)], NO2 [RR = 3.2226: (2.1411–4.8504)], CO [RR = 1.8021 (0.8045–4.0370)] and O3 [RR = 2.3270 (1.5906–3.4045)] was significantly associated with COVID-19 mortality. Stratified analysis showed that study design, exposure period, and country influenced exposure-response associations. Meta-regression model indicated significant predictors for air pollution-COVID-19 incidence associations. Conclusion: The study, while robust, lacks causality demonstration and focuses only on the USA and China, limiting its generalizability. Regardless, the study provides a strong evidence base for air pollution-COVID-19-risks associations, offering valuable insights for intervention measures for COVID-19.

Summary: Background: Despite numerous studies having evaluated the associations between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and risk of specific cancers other than anogenital tract and oropharyngeal, the findings are inconsistent and the quality of evidence has not been systematically quantified. We aimed to summarise the existing evidence as well as to evaluate the strength and credibility of these associations. Methods: We conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies. PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science were searched from inception to March 2024. Studies with systematic reviews and meta-analyses that examined associations between HPV or HPV-associated genotypes infection and specific cancers were eligible for this review. The quality of the methodology was evaluated using A Measurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). The credibility of the evidence was assessed using GRADE. The protocol was preregistered with PROSPERO (CRD42023439070). Findings: The umbrella review identified 31 eligible studies reporting 87 associations with meta-analytic estimates, including 1191 individual studies with 336,195 participants. Of those, 29 (93.5%) studies were rated as over moderate quality by AMSTAR. Only one association indicating HPV-18 infection associated with an increased risk of breast cancer (odds ratio [OR] = 3.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.24–5.41) was graded as convincing evidence. There were five unique outcomes identified as highly suggestive evidence, including HPV infection increased the risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OR = 7.03, 95% CI = 3.87–12.76), oesophageal cancer (OR = 3.32, 95% CI = 2.54–4.34), oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OR = 2.69, 95% CI = 2.05–3.54), lung cancer (OR = 3.60, 95% CI = 2.59–5.01), and breast cancer (OR = 6.26, 95% CI = 4.35–9.00). According to GRADE, one association was classified as high, indicating that compared with the controls in normal tissues, HPV infection was associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Interpretation: The umbrella review synthesised up-to-date observational evidence on HPV infection with the risk of breast cancer, oral squamous cell carcinoma, oesophageal cancer, oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and lung cancer. Further larger prospective cohort studies are needed to verify the associations, providing public health recommendations for prevention of disease. Plants have evolved interconnected regulatory pathways which enable them to respond and adapt to their environments. In plants, stress memory enhances stress tolerance through the molecular retention of prior stressful experiences, fostering rapid and robust responses to subsequent challenges. Mounting evidence suggests a close link between the formation of stress memories and effective future stress responses. However, the mechanism by which environmental stressors trigger stress memory formation is poorly understood. Here, we review the current state of knowledge regarding the RNA-based regulation on stress memory formation in plants and discuss research challenges and future directions. Specifically, we focus on the involvement of microRNAs (miRNAs), small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and alternative splicing (AS) in stress memory formation. miRNAs regulate target genes via post-transcriptional silencing, while siRNAs trigger stress memory formation through RNA-directed DNA methylation (RdDM). lncRNAs guide protein complexes for epigenetic regulation, and AS of pre-mRNAs is crucial to plant stress memory. Unraveling the mechanisms underpinning RNA-mediated stress memory formation not only advances our knowledge of plant biology but also aids in the development of improved stress tolerance in crops, enhancing crop performance and global food security.

Summary: Background: Benefits of Intermittent fasting (IF) on health-related outcomes have been found in a range of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Our umbrella review aimed to systematically analyze and synthesize the available causal evidence on IF and its impact on specific health-related outcomes while evaluating its evidence quality. Methods: We comprehensively searched the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases (from inception up to 8 January 2024) to identify related systematic reviews and meta-analyses of RCTs investigating the association between IF and human health outcomes. We recalculated the effect sizes for each meta-analysis as mean difference (MD) or standardized mean difference (SMD) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses were performed for populations based on three specific status: diabetes, overweight or obesity, and metabolic syndrome. The quality of systematic reviews was evaluated using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR), and the certainty of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023382004). Findings: A total of 351 associations from 23 meta-analyses with 34 health outcomes were included in the study. A wide range of outcomes were investigated, including anthropometric measures (n = 155), lipid profiles (n = 83), glycemic profiles (n = 57), circulatory system index (n = 41), appetite (n = 9), and others (n = 6). Background: Chukrasia tabularisis, a well-known tropical tree native to southeastern China, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, and contains large amounts of limonoids and triterpenoids. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the potential anti-inflammatory activity of limonoids from C. tabularis on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated RAW264.7 cells. Methods and results: Using a bioassay-guided approach, the chemical fraction with high anti-inflammatory activity was found and its chemical constituents were investigated. Phytochemical studies on active extracts resulted in the separation of three novel phragmalin limonoids (1–3), together with two known limonoids (4–5) and 11 tirucallane triterpenes (6–16). The activity of these isolated compounds in the production of nitric oxide (NO) on LPS-reated macrophages was evaluated. Limonoid 2 indicated significant anti-inflammatory activities with IC50 value of 4.58 μM. Limonoid 2 notably inhibited the production of NO, interleukin- 6 and tumor necrosis factor-α on macrophage. Signal transduction and activation of STAT and NF-κB activators were effectively blocked by limonoid 2. Conclusions: These results indicate that limonoid 2 has an anti-inflammatory effect by the inhibiting JAK2/STAT3, iNOS/eNOS, and NF-κB signaling pathways and regulating inflammatory mediators.

Background: The effects of heavy metal exposure on immunological function have sparked widespread concern, but unequivocal evidence on the association between mixed metal exposure and novel systemic inflammatory indexes remains scarce. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the associations of heavy metals with two novel systemic inflammation indexes and the mediated effects of serum albumin. Methods: Nineteen metals were detected among 4082 U.S. adults based on the NHANES. A linear regression, restricted cubic splines (RCS) regression, weighted quantile sum (WQS), Quantile-based Gcomputation (qgcomp), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were conducted to evaluate the associations of single metal and mixed metals with systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) levels, respectively. A series of subgroup analyses were used to identify potentially vulnerable populations. Furthermore, we conducted mediation analyses to investigate the mediated effects of serum albumin on the associations of metals with SII and SIRI. 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid (DPA) is an exceptional biomarker of notorious anthrax spores. Therefore, the rapid, sensitive, and selective quantitative detection of DPA is extremely significant and urgent. This paper reports a Zn(II) metal–organic framework with the formula of {[Zn6(NDA)6(DPBT)3] 2H2O·3DMF}n (MOF-1), which consists of 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (2,6-NDA), 4,7-di(4-pyridyl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (DPBT), and Zn(II) ions. Structural analysis indicated that MOF-1 is a three-dimensional (3D) network which crystallized in the monoclinic system with the C2/c space group, revealing high pH, solvent, and thermal stability. Luminescence sensing studies demonstrated that MOF-1 had the potential to be a highly selective, sensitive, and recyclable fluorescence sensor for the identification of DPA. Furthermore, fluorescent test paper was made to detect DPA promptly with color changes. The enhancement mechanism was established by the hydrogen-bonding interaction and photoinduced electron transfer transition between MOF-1 and DPA molecules.

Two new phenylspirodrimanes, stachybotrins K and L (1 and 2), together with eight known analogues (3–10), were isolated from deep-sea-derived Stachybotrys sp. MCCC 3A00409. Their structures were determined by extensive NMR data and mass spectroscopic analysis. Absolute configurations of new compounds were determined through a comparison of their circular dichroism (CD) spectra with other reported compounds. The possible reversal effects of all compounds were assayed in the resistant cancer cell lines. Stachybotrysin B (8) can reverse multidrug resistance (MDR) in ABCB1-overexpression cells (KBv200, Hela/VCR) at the non-cytotoxic concentration. Doxorubicin accumulation assay and molecular-docking analysis reveal that the mechanism of its reversal MDR effect may be related to the increase in the intracellular concentration of substrate anticancer drugs.

This study examined the similarities and differences in the distribution and quantitative use of engagement resources in the English news texts of two phases which are demarcated by an important document issued by the Chinese government in constructing the Greater Bay Area (GBA) by drawing on the engagement framework of the appraisal system in Systemic Functional Linguistics. Sixty English news reports of these two phases, each with a length of 800–1200 words, were collected and all the engagement resources were coded and calculated on the UAM corpus tool (version 6) before comparisons were made in terms of the quantitative use and distribution of each sub-category. The findings show that more dialogic expansion resources are present in the English news texts on GBA than dialogic contraction resources and that the most used and the least used strategies in the news reports are entertain resources and distance resources respectively. Moreover, in terms of the comparison of the sub-category, the distribution of the endorse strategy is significantly different in these two phases.

Reading is a high-order cognitive process that is unique in human beings. There is a prolonged developmental course and a wide range of proficiency levels associated with reading. In this review, I focus on brain changes underlying Chinese reading development in both typical readers and readers with reading disability. Reading development in typical readers is characterized by a shift from dorsal phonological reading to ventral orthographic reading in the brain and increased interactive specialization in the reading network. Even though some individuals with reading disability may be able to catch up with typical readers on phonological reading by adulthood, they cannot reach fluent orthographic reading. In the brain, the reduction of brain activation in the left inferior frontal gyrus associated with reading disability disappears by adulthood, suggesting that this is a developmental delay, while there is a greater reduction of brain activation in the left inferior temporal gyrus in adults than children with reading disability. It suggests a greater deficit in the dorsal phonological reading pathway in children and a greater deficit in the ventral orthographic reading pathway in adults with reading disability. This review provides insights about the developmental trajectories in typical and atypical reading.

In this paper, the physical adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as methyl chloride (CH3Cl), carbon disulfide (CS2), dimethyl sulfide (C2H6S), and benzene (C6H6) by three models of activated carbon (without a functional group, with a pyridine-containing functional group, and with a pyrrole-containing functional group) was simulated. The surface electrostatic potential (ESP), physical adsorption energy, and non-covalent interaction between activated carbon and VOC molecules were analyzed based on the density functional theory (DFT). The effect mechanism of nitrogen-containing functional groups on VOC adsorption by activated carbon was determined. Our simulations showed that nitrogen-containing functional groups can change the surface ESP and polarity of activated carbon. The pyrrole functional group is conducive to CH3Cl and CS2 adsorption on the activated carbon plane, while the pyridine functional group is relatively small or even unfavorable for CH3Cl and CS2 adsorption on the activated carbon plane. The promotional effect of the pyrrole functional group on the adsorption of C2H6S is more significant than that of the pyridine functional group. The adsorption of C6H6 on activated carbon occurs through parallel-displaced π–π stacking interactions, in which functional groups have little influence on it. The adsorption energy of VOCs on the activated carbon plane is higher than that at the edge, so VOCs are more likely to be adsorbed on the activated carbon plane.

This paper investigates the mechanism of nitrogen- and oxygen-containing functional groups in the collaborative adsorption of harmful gases by activated carbon through numerical simulation. The aim is to provide theoretical guidance for the industrial production of high-performance and universally applicable activated carbon. By employing density functional theory, we explore the impact of pyridine, pyrrole, carboxyl, and carbonyl groups on the co-adsorption of C2H6/SO2/NO by activated carbon through analyzing surface electrostatic potential (ESP), physical adsorption energy, and non-covalent interaction. The findings demonstrate that the presence of nitrogen- and oxygen-containing functional groups within activated carbon surfaces enhances their polarity, while simultaneously forming strong non-covalent interactions with C2H6 and SO2. The N-atom of NO can form a strong C-N ionic bond with the C-atom of the benzene ring. The adsorption site of NO is influenced by the nitrogen- and oxygen-containing functional groups. On an activated carbon model containing a pyrrole functional group, NO exhibits meta-adsorption behavior, while on activated carbon with pyridine, carboxyl, and carbonyl groups, it shows ortho-adsorption characteristics. The interaction between C2H6 and SO2, as well as NO, primarily involves the H-bond, whereas the interaction between SO2 and NO is predominantly driven by dipole–dipole interactions. These intermolecular forces significantly contribute to the mutual adsorption of these molecules.

Aerodynamic shape optimization is frequently complicated and challenging due to the involvement of multiple objectives, large-scale decision variables, and expensive cost function evaluation. This paper presents a bilayer parallel hybrid algorithm framework coupling multi-objective local search and global evolution mechanism to improve the optimization efficiency and convergence accuracy in high-dimensional design space. Specifically, an efficient multi-objective hybrid algorithm (MOHA) and a gradient-based surrogate-assisted multi-objective hybrid algorithm (GS-MOHA) are developed under this framework. In MOHA, a novel multi-objective gradient operator is proposed to accelerate the exploration of the Pareto front, and it introduces new individuals to enhance the diversity of the population. Afterward, MOHA achieves a trade-off between exploitation and exploration by selecting elite individuals in the local search space during the evolutionary process. Furthermore, a surrogate-assisted hybrid algorithm based on the gradient-enhanced Kriging with the partial least squares(GEKPLS) approach is established to improve the engineering applicability of MOHA. The optimization results of benchmark functions demonstrate that MOHA is less constrained by dimensionality and can solve multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs) with up to 1000 decision variables. Compared to existing MOEAs, MOHA demonstrates notable enhancements in optimization efficiency and convergence accuracy, specifically achieving a remarkable 5–10 times increase in efficiency. In addition, the optimization efficiency of GS-MOHA is approximately five times that of MOEA/D-EGO and twice that of K-RVEA in the 30-dimensional test functions. Finally, the multi-objective optimization results of the airfoil shape design validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and their potential for engineering applications.

Abstract Chromatin interactions play important roles in regulating gene expression. However, the availability of genome-wide chromatin interaction data is limited. We develop a computational method, chromatin interaction neural network (ChINN), to predict chromatin interactions between open chromatin regions using only DNA sequences. ChINN predicts CTCF- and RNA polymerase II-associated and Hi-C chromatin interactions. ChINN shows good across-sample performances and captures various sequence features for chromatin interaction prediction. We apply ChINN to 6 chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patient samples and a published cohort of 84 CLL open chromatin samples. Our results demonstrate extensive heterogeneity in chromatin interactions among CLL patient samples.

Abstract Indium phosphide (InP) based quantum dots (QDs) have been known as an ideal alternative to heavy metals including QDs light emitters, such as cadmium selenium (CdSe) QDs, and show great promise in the next‐generation solid‐state lighting and displays. However, the electroluminescence performance of green InP QDs is still inferior to their red counterparts, due to the higher density of surface defects and the wider particle size distribution. Here, a quasi‐shell‐growth strategy for the growth of highly luminescent green InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs is reported, in which the zinc and selenium monomers are added at the initial nucleation of InP stage to adsorb on the surface of InP cores that create a quasi‐ZnSe shell rather than a bulk ZnSe shell. The quasi‐ZnSe shell reduces the surface defects of InP core by passivating In‐terminated vacancies, and suppresses the Ostwald ripening of InP core at high temperatures, leading to a photoluminescence quantum yield of 91% with a narrow emission linewidth of 36 nm for the synthesized InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs. Consequently, the light‐emitting diodes based on the green QDs realize a maximum luminance of 15606 cd m−2, a peak external quantum efficiency of 10.6%, and a long half lifetime of > 5000 h.

In order to solve the problem that students have insufficient understanding of the full-field goniophotometer instrumentation due to the expensive equipment and the high requirements of the experimental environment, virtual reality technology is used to complete the virtual laboratory of a light intensity distribution measurement of the full-field goniophotometer through Unity 3D. The virtual laboratory is designed for near-field measurement, mid-field measurement, and far-field measurement of light intensity. It combines 3D MAX and C# to realize the model building of laboratory, luminaire and full-field goniophotometer, the dynamic drawing of light distribution curves, and the simulation system can also be run on mobile phones. The experimental process is mainly through the manipulation of the virtual experimenter and each module to generate collision detection, pop-up buttons, and click on the button triggers an event and the operation prompt page appears. The light distribution curve is generated dynamically by reading and processing the IES file data to generate 3D coordinates. This virtual simulation laboratory is demonstrated on multiple platforms. The results proved that the virtual simulation restored the experimental process vividly and can complete the experimental teaching remotely.

Inflammatory diseases present with dysregulated inflammatory reactions and oxidative stress, resulting in heavy health-associated economic burden to society. Current mainstream therapies, including traditional therapies such as steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and immunosuppressants, as well as novel biological strategies such as cytokine and intracellular signal inhibitors, cannot cure inflammatory diseases and always cause a series of unexpected adverse effects. Natural products (NPs), which are complex chemical molecules with abundant biological activities derived from microorganisms and plants, have demonstrated great potential for treating inflammatory diseases with several unresolved drawbacks. Increasing studies have indicated that NP-based nanomedicine resulting from the combination of NPs and nanotechnology may open a brand-new vista for the therapy of inflammatory diseases. In the present review, we summarize the classification of NP-based nanomedicine and its potential therapeutic effects in various inflammatory diseases, as well as further elucidate the challenges in the wide clinical application of NP-based nanomedicine to promote a comprehensive understanding and development of inflammatory disease therapy by NP-based nanomedicine.

It has been documented that processing L2 and L1 engages a very similar brain network in bilingual adults. However, it is not known whether this similarity is evident in bilingual children as well or it develops with learning from children to adults. In the current study, we compared brain activation in Chinese-English bilingual children and adults during L1 and L2 processing. We found greater similarity between L1 and L2 in adults than in children, supporting the convergence hypothesis which argues that when the proficiency of L2 increases, the L2’s brain network converges to the L1’s brain network. We also found greater differences between adults and children in the brain for L2 processing than L1 processing, even though there were comparable increase in proficiency from children to adults in L1 and L2. It suggests an elongated developmental course for L2. This study provides important insights about developmental changes in the bilingual brain.

Based on blue LED chips to excite Ce-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG: Ce3+) yellow phosphors, InP/ZnS green-emitting quantum dots (QDs) and InP/ZnSe/ZnS red-emitting QDs are used as light conversion materials for WLEDs to improve the color rendering index (CRI) of the device and improve its color coordinates. We have proven this in previous work. But in the previous work, we only studied the CRI of the driving current from 5 mA to 100 mA. The CRI and the Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of the WLED device prepared before is not ideal under high current conditions. The emission peak position of InP/ZnSe/ZnS red-emitting QDs we used in previous work is 605nm. In this article, we adjusted the emission peak position of InP/ZnSe/ZnS red-emitting QDs to 611nm, and prepared WLED in the same way, which improved the problem that the CRI of WLED devices decreases rapidly and the chromaticity coordinates change greatly under high current conditions. The CRI of prepared WLED device in this article was increased to 91.0, the CIE chromaticity coordinates is (0.3365, 0.3334), and the correlated color temperature (CCT) is 5313 K. We also tested the dependence of the electroluminescence (EL) spectrum, CRI, CCT and chromaticity coordinates of the prepared WLED device on the current. Compared with the prepared WLED device before, the CRI of the WLED device prepared in this article has always remained above 90, hovering between 90 ~ 91, very stable. The chromaticity coordinate distribution is also very concentrated, the amplitude of the offset black body radiation is small, and it shows excellent color rendering and stable working performance. A 30-day aging test was performed on the prepared WLED device.

Background: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is the most common cyanotic heart disease. However, the association of cardiac metabolic reprogramming changes and underlying molecular mechanisms in TOF-related chronic myocardial hypoxia damage are still unclear.Methods: In this study, we combined microarray transcriptomics analysis with liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) spectrum metabolomics analysis to establish the metabolic reprogramming that occurs in response to chronic hypoxia damage. Two Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets, GSE132176 and GSE141955, were downloaded to analyze the metabolic pathway in TOF. Then, a metabolomics analysis of the clinical samples (right atrial tissue and plasma) was performed. Additionally, an association analysis between differential metabolites and clinical phenotypes was performed. Next, four key genes related to sphingomyelin metabolism were screened and their expression was validated by real-time quantitative PCR (QT-PCR).Results: The gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) showed that sphingolipid metabolism was downregulated in TOF and the metabolomics analysis showed that multiple sphingolipids were dysregulated. Additionally, genes related to sphingomyelin metabolism were identified. We found that four core genes, UDP-Glucose Ceramide Glucosyltransferase (UGCG), Sphingosine-1-Phosphate Phosphatase 2 (SGPP2), Fatty Acid 2-Hydroxylase (FA2H), and Sphingosine-1-Phosphate Phosphatase 1 (SGPP1), were downregulated in TOF.Conclusion: Sphingolipid metabolism was downregulated in TOF; however, the detailed mechanism needs further investigation.

Objectives: The management of atrial isomerism with complex congenital heart disease remains challenging. Experience has been largely obtained in advanced countries. The clinical diversity is greater in China. We evaluated the early- and medium-term outcomes of surgical treatment of these patients.Methods: We reviewed 86 patients of atrial isomerism with complex congenital heart disease undergoing varied surgeries in our center in 2008–2020. Cox regression models were used to analyze the risk factors for mortality.Results: There were 75 cases of right and 11 of left atrial isomerism. Eighty-three (96.5%) patients underwent single-ventricle staged palliation approach, with 10 early and 7 late deaths. The overall 1-, 5-, and 10-year survival rates were 84.7, 79.3, and 79.3%, respectively. Thirty-six (43.4%) patients completed the Fontan procedure with median age of 48 months and freedom from death or Fontan failure at 1-, 5-, and 8-years were 94.4, 87.4, and 80.7%, respectively. Concomitant total anomalous pulmonary venous connection [hazard ratio (HR): 5.15 (1.95–12.94), p = 0.008], more than moderate atrioventricular valve regurgitation [HR: 4.82 (2.42–6.79), p = 0.003], and the need for first-stage palliative surgery [HR: 4.58 (1.64–10.76), p = 0.015] were independent risk factors for mortality.Conclusions: Despite even greater clinical diversity, the surgical outcomes of atrial isomerism with complex congenital heart disease are improving in China. The early and intermediate outcomes are comparable to many previous reports. Concomitant total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, moderate or severe atrioventricular valve regurgitation, and the need for a first-stage palliative surgery are still independent risk factors for mortality.

Brain abnormalities in the reading network have been repeatedly reported in individuals with developmental dyslexia (DD); however, it is still not totally understood where the structural and functional abnormalities are consistent/inconsistent across languages. In the current multimodal meta-analysis, we found convergent structural and functional alterations in the left superior temporal gyrus across languages, suggesting a neural signature of DD. We found greater reduction in grey matter volume and brain activation in the left inferior frontal gyrus in morpho-syllabic languages (e.g. Chinese) than in alphabetic languages, and greater reduction in brain activation in the left middle temporal gyrus and fusiform gyrus in alphabetic languages than in morpho-syllabic languages. These language differences are explained as consequences of being DD while learning a specific language. In addition, we also found brain regions that showed increased grey matter volume and brain activation, presumably suggesting compensations and brain regions that showed inconsistent alterations in brain structure and function. Our study provides important insights about the etiology of DD from a cross-linguistic perspective with considerations of consistency/inconsistency between structural and functional alterations.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication faced by children following ventricular septal defect (VSD) surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The objective of this study was to explore potential predictors inherent to AKI.Methods: VSD infants who were scheduled for elective cardiac surgery with CPB from 2017 to 2020 were enrolled in this study. Based on the Pediatric Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss, End-Stage Renal Disease (pRIFLE) criteria, patients were divided into AKI and non-AKI groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were carried out in order to evaluate potential risk factors for AKI. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated to evaluate the predictive probabilities of risk factors for AKI.Results: Of all the 338 enrolled VSD infants, 49 manifested AKI with an incidence of 14.5% (49/338). The ROC curve indicated that albumin-to-fibrinogen ratio (AFR) during CPB was a significant predictor of AKI [area under the curve (AUC), 0.711; p < 0.001]. Based on the univariate and multivariate logistic analyses, AFR during CPB [odds ratio (OR), 1.89; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.22–2.76, p = 0.011] was the only independent risk factor for AKI.Conclusions: This study demonstrated that a low AFR (

In order to solve the problem of low efficiency and easy clamping deformation in the location layout design of auto-body sheet metal,alocation layout design method of auto-body sheet metal based on NSGA-Ⅱ and RBF neural network is proposed.With the minimum deviation transfer path and the highest stability as constraints, the first three locating points are optimized by using NSGA-Ⅱ algorithm.With the support of finite element samples, BP and RBF neural network prediction models are constructed and compared, and the results of RBF neural network with higher prediction accuracy are selected as individual fitness values.The GA and PSO are used to optimize and compare the RBF neural network. The solution value of the PSO with faster convergence speed and higher accuracy is chosen as the optimal solution of the fourth location point.Using the seat-mounted beam as a model to verify the research content.The results show that the maximum clamping deformation under the optimized positioning layout is only 27% of the maximum clamping deformation before optimization.Therefore, RBF neural network can effectively predict clamping deformation of sheet metal.The research results have reference value for further research on auto-body welding fixture design and location layout of fuselagethin-walled parts.

Inorganic charge transport layers (CTLs) have been proven to be effective for improving the stability of electroluminescent devices. However, the effective regulation of electronic structure for solution‐processed inorganic CTLs is still challenging by doping or interface engineering, and the film morphology is usually poor due to surface aggregation. Herein, the energy level and mobility of inorganic phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) hole injection layers (HILs) are regulated by adjusting the polarity of solvents, and the resulting inorganic HILs with proper electronic structure act as an energy ladder to better promote hole injection, thereby achieving balanced carrier transport in quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (QLEDs). Meanwhile, the surface morphology of the inorganic PMA film is also improved using solvents with high boiling points, which minimizes the surface tension and is conducive to the formation of smooth and pinhole‐free films. As a result, the devices using PMA dissolved in n‐butanol with a lower polarity exhibit a peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 19.2%, which is 3.6 times higher than that of QLEDs using PMA obtained from acetone solvent with a higher polarity. Herein, a general method for the deposition of high‐quality HILs for the fabrication of solution‐processed inorganic functional layers and optoelectronic devices is provided.

Pecan bacterial leaf scorch caused by Xylella fastidiosa is an emerging disease for the U.S. and international pecan industries and can be transmitted from scion to rootstock via grafting. With the expanse of global transportation and trade networks, phytosanitation is critical for reducing the spread of economically significant pathogens, such as X. fastidiosa. We developed and evaluated thermal treatments using microwave irradiation and microwave absorbers [sterile deionized water (dH2O) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs)] as novel disinfectant methods for remediating X. fastidiosa in pecan scions. Partial submergence of scions in dH2O or CNT dispersions resulted in the transport of microwave absorbers in the xylem tissue via transpiration but did not compromise plant health. The microwave absorbers effectively transferred heat to the scion wood to reach an average temperature range of 55-65°C. Microwave radiation exposure for 6 sec (3 sec for two iterations) of CNT- or dH2O-treated scions reduced the frequency of X. fastidiosa-positive in pecan scions without negatively affecting plant viability when compared to the control group (dH2O-treated with no microwave). The efficacy of the new thermal treatments based on microwave irradiation was comparable to the conventional hot-water treatment (HWT) method, in which scions were submerged in 46°C water for 30 min. Microwave irradiation can be employed to treat X. fastidiosa-infected scions where the conventional HWT treatment is not feasible. This study is the first report to demonstrate novel thermal treatment methods based on the microwave irradiation and microwave absorbers of dH2O and CNT as an application for the phytosanitation of xylem-inhabiting bacteria in graftwood.

Objective. We retrospectively analyzed the surgical results of pulmonary blood flow studies to guide ventricular septal defect (VSD) closure in the correction of pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect with major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA/VSD/MAPCAs). Methods. A total of 57 children who were diagnosed with PA/VSD/MAPCAs and who underwent intraoperative pulmonary blood flow studies at our hospital between August 2016 and June 2019 were included. Surgery and cardiopulmonary bypass records were collected. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to verify the accuracy of pulmonary blood flow studies to predict VSD closure. Results. Complete VSD closure was achieved in 39 of 57 children (68.42%), with a median age of 2 years and 5 months (range: 7 months to 15 years and 9 months) and a median weight of 11.0 kg (5.7–36.5 kg). Partial VSD repair was recorded for 21 children (36.84%), including 4 children (19.05%) who underwent VSD closure in the later stages and 13 children (61.90%) who were under follow-up and waiting to undergo complete VSD closure. There was only one child (1.75%) with VSD left. Evolutionary algorithms have been widely used to solve complex engineering optimization problems with large search spaces and nonlinearity. Both cultural algorithm (CA) and genetic algorithms (GAs) have a broad prospect in the optimization field. The traditional CA has poor precision in solving complex engineering optimization problems and easily falls into local optima. An efficient hybrid evolutionary optimization method coupling CA with GAs (HCGA) is proposed in this paper. HCGA reconstructs the cultural framework, which uses three kinds of knowledge to build the belief space, and the GAs are used as an evolutionary model for the population space. In addition, a knowledge-guided t-mutation operator is developed to dynamically adjust the mutation step and introduced into the influence function. HCGA achieves a balance between exploitation and exploration through the above strategies, and thus effectively avoids falling into local optima and improves the optimization efficiency. Numerical experiments and comparisons with several benchmark functions show that the proposed HCGA significantly outperforms the other compared algorithms in terms of comprehensive performance, especially for high-dimensional problems. HCGA is further applied to aerodynamic optimization design, with the wing cruise factor being improved by 23.21%, demonstrating that HCGA is an efficient optimization algorithm with potential applications in aerodynamic optimization design.

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (DTPMSM) are used in the steer-by-wire system of electric vehicles that require high reliability. Multiple faults should be considered for the steering system, such as open-circuit faults and speed sensor faults. However, the current speed sensorless control methods of the dual three-phase motor are mainly derived from the promotion of the three-phase motor. They fail when an open-circuit fault occurs, leading to the failure of fault-tolerant control. Researchers have noticed this problem and proposed many methods, but they are very complicated and computationally intensive. This paper proposes one type of improved model reference adaptive system (MRAS). By adding certain fault-related restraints to the output of the adjustable model, speed sensorless control can automatically fit the open-circuit fault and estimate accurately even if an open-circuit fault occurs, which makes sure the whole system continues to operate. Simulation results are presented that contain normal operation, open-circuit fault operation, fault-tolerant control operation, and the whole process from start to fault-tolerant operation. The results show that no matter what period the motor is in, the improved speed sensor can accurately estimate the motor speed and position. The improved model reference adaptive system is significant for improving the reliability of the motor steering system and ensuring the safety of people and property.

Abstract Stretched histone regions, such as super-enhancers and broad H3K4me3 domains, are associated with maintenance of cell identity and cancer. We connected super-enhancers and broad H3K4me3 domains in the K562 chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line as well as the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line with chromatin interactions. Super-enhancers and broad H3K4me3 domains showed higher association with chromatin interactions than their typical counterparts. Interestingly, we identified a subset of super-enhancers that overlap with broad H3K4me3 domains and show high association with cancer-associated genes including tumor suppressor genes. Besides cell lines, we could observe chromatin interactions by a Chromosome Conformation Capture (3C)-based method, in primary human samples. Several chromatin interactions involving super-enhancers and broad H3K4me3 domains are constitutive and can be found in both cancer and normal samples. Taken together, these results reveal a new layer of complexity in gene regulation by super-enhancers and broad H3K4me3 domains.

Multiple hypotheses have been proposed to explain the reading difficulty caused by developmental dyslexia (DD). The current study examined visuo-orthographic processing in children with dyslexia to determine whether orthographic deficits are explainable based solely on visual deficits. To identify orthographic-specific, visual perception-specific, and overlapping deficits, we included two tasks (lexical and perceptual) in three Chinese subject groups: children with DD, age-matched controls (AC), and reading matched controls (RC) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We found that the left precuneus showed decreased activation across both tasks for the DD group compared to the two control groups, thus reflecting visual processing deficits in children with DD, which also affects orthographic processing. Furthermore, we found that the functional connectivity between left middle occipital gyrus (LMOG) and left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) was decreased in the DD group compared to AC and RC for only the lexical task. This suggests a weaker association between orthography and phonology for children with DD. In addition, the children with DD showed decreased functional connectivity between the LMOG and right parahippocampal gyrus for only the visual perceptual task, thereby indicating a weaker association between visual regions for DD during visual symbol processing. Taken together, our findings suggest that the observed orthographic processing deficit in DD might be driven by both a basic visual deficit, and a linguistic deficit.

Research on cross-linguistic comparisons of the neural correlates of reading has consistently found that the left middle frontal gyrus (MFG) is more involved in Chinese than in English. However, there is a lack of consensus on the interpretation of the language difference. Because this region has been found to be involved in writing, we hypothesize that reading Chinese characters involves this writing region to a greater degree because Chinese speakers learn to read by repeatedly writing the characters. To test this hypothesis, we recruited English L1 learners of Chinese, who performed a reading task and a writing task in each language. The English L1 sample had learned some Chinese characters through character-writing and others through phonological learning, allowing a test of writing-on-reading effect. We found that the left MFG was more activated in Chinese than English regardless of task, and more activated in writing than in reading regardless of language. Furthermore, we found that this region was more activated for reading Chinese characters learned by character-writing than those learned by phonological learning. A major conclusion is that writing regions are also activated in reading, and that this reading-writing connection is modulated by the learning experience. We replicated the main findings in a group of native Chinese speakers, which excluded the possibility that the language differences observed in the English L1 participants were due to different language proficiency level.

Three novel coordination polymers, formulated as {[Zn(1,4-bmimb)(PhAA)2]·H2O}n (1), [Cu(1,4-bmimb)0.5(2,6-PyDC)]n (2), and {[Cu(1,4-bmimb)0.5(2-PAC)(HCOO)]·2H2O}n (3) (1,4-bmimb = 1,4-bis((2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene; PhAA = phenylacetic acid; 2,6-PyDC = pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid; 2-PAC = 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid), were synthesized by the self-assembly of mixed ligands with Zn(II) and Cu(II) under solvothermal conditions and characterized by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, fluorescence spectra and UV-vis absorption spectra. 1 is shown as a Z-shaped chain, which is formed by Zn2+, PhAA ligands, and 1,4-bmimb ligands, and is assembled into a 3D structure by hydrogen bonding and π···π interaction. Similarly, 2 displays a single chain, which is built by Cu2+, 2,6-PyDC ligands, and 1,4-bmimb ligands, and is assembled into a 3D structure by hydrogen bonding and π···π interaction. 3 possesses a 1D ladder structure, which is formed by Cu2+, 2,6-PyDC ligands, and 1,4-bmimb ligands, and is assembled into a 3D structure by hydrogen bonding. The luminescence properties (for 1) and UV-vis spectrum (for 2 and 3) were also studied and discussed.
