Purpose. This research delves into the stereotype-laden environment faced by female librarians and the efforts undertaken to counteract these stereotypes. In situations where the worth or ability of an outgroup is questioned, stereotype lift makes people perform better. Methodology. This study utilized qualitative research with a single-case study approach. The participants of the study were five female librarians working within the Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines. The interview guide questions were used to gather their responses alongside observation and some documents. Permission from the school president was secured first before going to the library, which was also similarly done for online participants. The librarians were in terms of their physical characteristics, emotions, and how they catered to the patrons and researchers. In addition, ocular visits were conducted in which researchers took photos of what could help support the observation. After having the necessary data, Category Construction was utilized to analyze it. Results and discussion. The findings revealed the stereotypes the respondents received: stern and sedentary workers. These stereotypes unveiled how it affects their work performance by remaining unaffected and becoming more approachable. With these effects encountered, the female librarians were able to come up with two strategies for dealing with the stereotypes: remaining calm and positively changing oneself. The librarians also promoted equity, diversity, and inclusion by providing equal treatment to all and organizing a club for book lovers. Conclusions. The effect of stereotypes on librarians was not manifested since some of them perceived it as usual, while some let it change them to better librarians.

Purpose: Open source software is used widely across different continents though its adoption in libraries depend upon varioius factors. Type of library, availability of staff, qualification and skill sets of the librarian and other staff, support of the management, library budget, time availability, independence to the librarian are just some of the factors that may determine adoption of open source software. This paper tries to understand if gender of the librarian also has any significant impact on adoption of open source software. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study is conducted in India focusing on libraries of the private management education institutions in the Noida and Ghaziabad of the Uttar Pradesh, a state of India. Data is collected using Google Forms. After normalization of data, analyis of the data is conducted using SPSS 18 version after conducting reliability analysis on the major vaiables for reliability of the data. The sample is chosen due to very large number and different types of educational institutions providing management education in this geographical area. Findings: This study confirms that more and more libraries are adopting open source software now however adoption rate of open source software among female libraries is lesser. It is evident from the study women are not lagging behind due to qualification or skill sets but their other responsibilities i.e. family responsibilities cause work-life imbalance and hence they do not take much risks and try to adjust in pre-defined boundaries. Survey results also indicate if employer provides risk free environment to female librarians then adoption of open source software may become faster. Originality/Value: This study is entirely original work of the authors and is based upon data collected using google forms after distribution among various libraries. Results of this study may help in employers and government to take up women-friendly measures that ensure worklife balance and provide a women-friendly environment so that they can use their knowledge and skills for betterment of their libraries. This article will use the Mitteilungen der Vereinigung der österreichischen Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare, an important journal for the Austrian library landscape, to give an insight into how women were presented and perceived from the early 1950s onwards. Overall, the Mitteilungen provide a good overview of the changes in Austrian librarianship and of the leading figures who helped shape libraries and set important initiatives. The fact that a great many women were involved in this from the very beginning, even though they initially only took on leading positions in isolated cases, can be readily seen in the reports and accounts from more than 70 years. This research paper aims to understand elements that act as counter-productive to the achievements of females working as professional librarians. The paper uses current literature to explore inhibitive factors for the career development of female librarians. The methodology employed in the paper is epistemological realism and deductive reasoning. This methodology adds to existing knowledge while being linked with realism. The research investigates main factors like cultural stereotyping, discrimination against women, marriage, children, career breaks, mentoring, family support, and organizational structure and policies to ascertain their role in enhancing or diminishing female librarians’ career progression. The nature of research is deductive as the conclusions are drawn from available literature as applied to professional females in the field of librarianship. Purpose: to assess the cervical cancer knowledge of female librarians in Imo State. The assessment was in terms of the risk factors; signs and symptoms, screening and control.Design: It was a descriptive survey of female librarians in Nigeria. Findings: Female librarians have very poor knowledge of cervical cancer health in all its ramifications. And up-take was abysmally low (5%). Urgent intervention is needed to raise their awareness. This study will examine the extent to which the provisions of the Public Libraries Acts of 1850 and 1855, the overcrowding of traditional female professions and the Langham Place Circle served as the social, economic, and ideological catalysts which started the numerical feminization of English public librarianship during the long nineteenth century. It will explore how English lower-middle-class and upper-working-class women came to view public librarianship both as a socially respectable profession to enter and as a profession suitable for their sex. The purpose of this study is to examine the possible problems being met by female librarians due to gender discrimination in libraries. With this purpose in this study, the relevant problems being met by female librarians in libraries are divided as follows; sexual harassment (mobbing) in libraries, wage discrimination (receiving a low wage as a female librarian), gender discrimination in career development, unfair dismissal as a female librarian, career break as a female librarian (because of marriage or having a new baby), and encountering the personal questions in job interviews (such as the questions of the timing of marriage or motherhood). Librarianship is a professional profession in which female workers are quantitatively more than male workers. However, both librarianship profession and female librarians who carry out this profession have a negative image in popular culture. Furthermore, librarianship as a profession is not perceived as a professional profession such as the medical profession and the profession of law. In other words, professions such as librarianship and nursing are perceived as a semi-professional profession because female workers are quantitatively more than male workers in those professions. In this case, the negative perception against librarianship profession and female librarians is fairly equivalent to the negative perception against women in popular culture. The aim of this study is to examine the image of the librarianship profession and female librarians who carry out this profession from feminist perspective. The report deals with a project which concentrates on the role of women working in libraries. The project started in 2010 and wants to make visible the merits and achievements of women working in different libraries in Austria. The workshop was initiated to inform participants about the progress of the different topics of the project, e.g. women in the Middle Ages, the history of the different libraries in Austria, women who worked as librarians in exile during the 2nd World War and more.
