CEA is committed to delivering a Medium Energy Beam Transfer line and a superconducting linac (SCL) for SARAF accelerator in order to accelerate 5 mA beam of either protons from 1.3 MeV to 35 MeV or deuterons from 2.6 MeV to 40 MeV. The SCL contains 13 half-wave resonator (HWR) low beta cavities (β= 0.09) at 176 MHz and 14 HWR high-beta cavities (β = 0.18) at 176 MHz. The low-beta and high-beta series were qualified in 2021 and 2022 respectively. This contribution will focus on the observation of the multipactor barriers for all cavi-ties. The high-beta prototype was first tested in 2019 but failed. A new prototype was tested in the end of 2020. IAEC/SNRC (Israel) is constructing an accelerator fa-cility, SARAF, for neutron production. It is based on a linac accelerating 5 mA CW deuteron and proton beam up to 40 MeV. As a first phase, IAEC constructed and operated a linac (SARAF Phase I), from which remains an ECR ion source, a Low-Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) line and a 4-rod RFQ. Since 2015, IAEC and CEA (France) are collaborating in the second phase, consisting in manufacturing of the linac (Figure 1). The injector control-system has been recently updated and the Medium Energy Beam Transport (MEBT) line has been installed and integrated to the infrastructure. It has been partially commissioned during the first semester of 2022. One of the crucial control systems of any particle ac-celerator is the Low-Level Radio Frequency (LLRF). The purpose of a LLRF is to control the amplitude and phase of the field inside the accelerating cavity. The LLRF is a subsystem of the CEA (Commissariat �� l���Energie Atomique) control domain for the SARAF-LINAC (Soreq Applied Research Accelerator Facility ��� Linear Accelera-tor) instrumentation and Seven Solutions has designed, developed, manufactured, and tested the system based on CEA technical specifications. The final version of this digital LLRF will be installed in the SARAF accelerator in Israel at the end of 2021. The architecture, design, and development as well as the performance of the LLRF system will be presented in this paper. SNRC and CEA collaborate to the upgrade of the SARAF accelerator to 5 mA CW 40 Mev deuteron and proton beams and also closely to the control system. CEA is in charge of the Control System (including cabinets) design and implementation for the Injector (upgrade), MEBT and Super Conducting Linac made up of 4 cryomodules hosting HWR cavities and solenoid packages. This paper gives a detailed presentation of the control system architecture from hardware and EPICS software points of view. The hardware standardization relies on MTCA.4 that is used for LLRF, BPM, BLM and FC controls and on Siemens PLC 1500 series for vacuum, cryogenics and interlock. CEA IRFU EPICS Environment (IEE) platform is used for the whole accelerator. IEE is based on virtual machines and our MTCA.4 solutions and enables us to have homogenous EPICS modules. It also provides a development and production workflow. SNRC has integrated IEE into a new IT network based on advanced technology. For many years our Institute CEA IRFU has had a sound experience in VME and EPICS. For the accelerator projects SPIRAL2 at Ganil in Normandy and IFMIF/LIPAc at JAEA/Rokkasho (Japan) the EPICS control systems were based on VME. For 5 years our Institute has been involved in several in-kind collaboration contracts with ESS. For the first contracts (ESS test stands, Source and LEBT controls) ESS recommended us to use VME based solutions on IOxOS boards. Our close collaboration with ESS, their support and the requirements for new projects have led us to develop a standardized hardware and software platform called IRFU EPICS Environment based on microTCA.4 and MRF timing system. Parallel transmission (pTx) technology, despite its great potential to mitigate the transmit field inhomogeneity problem in magnetic resonance imaging at ultra-high field (UHF), suffers from a cumbersome calibration procedure, thereby making the approach problematic for routine use. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate on two different 7T systems respectively equipped with 8-transmit-channel RF coils from two different suppliers (Rapid-Biomed and Nova Medical), the benefit of so-called universal pulses (UP), optimized to produce uniform excitations in the brain in a population of adults and making unnecessary the calibration procedures mentioned above. Non-selective and slice-selective UPs were designed to return homogeneous excitation profiles throughout the brain simultaneously on a group of ten subjects, which then were subsequently tested on ten additional volunteers in magnetization prepared rapid gradient echo (MPRAGE) and multi-slice gradient echo (2D GRE) protocols. The results were additionally compared experimentally with the standard non-pTx circularly-polarized (CP) mode, and in simulation with subject-specific tailored excitations. For both pulse types and both coils, the UP mode returned a better signal and contrast homogeneity than the CP mode. Retrospective analysis of the flip angle (FA) suggests that the FA deviation from the nominal FA on average over a healthy adult population does not exceed 11% with the calibration-free parallel-transmit pulses whereas it goes beyond 25% with the CP mode. As a result the universal pulses designed in this work confirm their relevance in 3D and 2D protocols with commercially available equipment. Plug-and-play pTx implementations henceforth become accessible to exploit with more flexibility the potential of UHF for brain imaging.

Low-beta and high beta cavities have been optimized to limit electric and magnetic peak fields in the cavity, and to minimize the dissipated power. Manufacturing constraints and helium cooling were taken into consideration to minimize the risk during manufacturing and operation. Preliminary mechanical studies of the cavity and of the tuning system, as well as preliminary studies of the couplers and pick-up antennas were carried out. In the frame of the European Spallation Source (ESS) project, a linear accelerator composed of a superconducting section is being developed. This accelerator owns two kinds of cavities called “medium beta cavity” (β=0.67) and “high beta cavity” (β= 0.86). These cavities are equipped with RF power couplers whose main characteristics are: fundamental frequency: 704.42MHz, peak RF power: 1.1MW, repetition rate: 14Hz, RF pulse width>3.1ms. These couplers are common to the two cavities. The CEA Saclay is responsible for the design, the manufacture, the preparation and the conditioning of the couplers used for the Elliptical Cavities Cryomodule Technological Demonstrators (ECCTD). This work is performed in collaboration with ESS and the IPNO. This paper describes the coupler architecture, its different components, the main characteristics and the specific features of its elements (RF performance, dissipated power, cooling, coupler box test for the conditioning). As the last two identical welcome 7 HWR high-beta cavities (β = 0.181), 176 MHz. The beam is focused through the superconducting solenoids located between cavities housing steering coils. A Beam Position Monitor is placed upstream each solenoid. A diagnostic box containing a beam profiler, a bunch length monitor and a vacuum pump will be inserted between 2 consecutive cryomodules. The HWR cavities, the solenoid package and the cryomodules are being designed. This paper presents the reference design of the SARAF-LINAC Project including a four-vane 176 MHz RFQ, a MEBT and a superconducting linac made of four five-meter cryomodules housing 26 superconducting HWR cavities and 20 superconducting solenoids. The first two identical cryomodules house low-beta (βopt = 0.091), 280 mm long (flange to flange), 176 MHz HWR cavities, the two identical last cryomodules house high-beta (βopt = 0.181), 410 mm long, 176 MHz, HWR cavities. The Iseult-Inumac project led by a franco-german consortium aims at developing the ultra-high field MRI technologies, especially with the building of an 11.7 tesla scanner. The high resolution of this new scanner may improve the understanding of human nervous system and its dysfunctions in order to detect pathologies like the Alzheimer disease, strokes or tumors earlier.The biggest technical difficulty, besides the building of the static magnet itself, lies in the emission of a uniform electromagnetic wave in the entire brain of the patient. It is usually referred as to B1 (or RF) inhomogeneity issues. A solution consists in using a phased array RF coil and specific MRI sequences for shimming in a parallel transmit approach.This thesis deals with the study of parallel transmit phased arrays RF coils for 7 T and 11.7 T MRI. An eight independent channels prototype-coil that uses a new planar strip array technology is described for 7 T MRI. It was designed based on numerical simulation. A validation methodology has been developed for characterization and performance analysis of transmit phased arrays. After a successful validation of this first prototype, a more efficient 12-channel coil and a new driving strategy that only requires 8 driving channels instead of 12 were designed. Finally, the same methodology was applied to a phased array RF coil for 11.7 T MRI.; Le projet Iseult-Inumac mené au sein d’un consortium franco-allemand vise à développer les techniques associées à l’imagerie par résonance magnétique à ultra haut champ, notamment à travers la construction d’un imageur à 11,7 teslas. La résolution accrue du nouvel imageur devrait apporter une meilleure compréhension du système nerveux et de ses dysfonctionnements pour aboutir à un dépistage plus précoce des pathologies telles que la maladie d’Alzheimer, les accidents vasculaires cérébraux ou les tumeurs.La principale difficulté technique du projet, en dehors de la construction de l’aimant statique, réside dans la capacité d’émettre une onde électromagnétique d’amplitude uniforme dans tout le cerveau du patient : problème de l’inhomogénéité de B1 (ou radiofréquence). Une solution proposée consiste à utiliser une antenne réseau à transmission parallèle et des séquences d’excitation IRM spécifiques dites de compensation.Cette thèse se concentre sur la conception des antennes réseaux à transmission parallèle pour l’IRM à 7 et 11,7 T. Un prototype à 8 canaux indépendants utilisant une technologie innovante de résonateurs linéaires est présentée pour l’IRM 7 T. Il a été conçu par la simulation numérique. Un protocole de validation a été développé pour la caractérisation et l’analyse des performances des antennes réseaux. Le succès de cette validation a permis de développer par la simulation une nouvelle antenne à 12 canaux et une stratégie de pilotage innovante permettant de n’utiliser que 8 chaînes de pilotage au lieu de 12. Enfin, la même méthodologie a été appliquée pour concevoir et prédire les performances d’une antenne réseau à 11,7 T.
