Abstract

We are rapidly moving to a hybrid world, where telepresence technologies play a crucial role. But, are current technologies ready for such a shift? Do they provide adequate support for interaction and collaboration? In this workshop, together with the participants, we will try out a variety of telepresence technologies for hybrid meetings. Based on small hybrid group activities we will explore how different systems compare in terms of immersion, interaction, and usability. Additionally, we will reflect on the social implications of telepresence. The aim of the workshop is to bring together the lived experiences of both remote and local participants, with activities that stimulate reflections on our experiences. These reflections will fuel group discussions, to identify future research areas in telepresence and hybrid meeting technologies. Results from the workshop will be published as a white paper with recommendations for the design of future telepresence and hybrid meeting technologies.

Abstract

Ambivalence in social interactions has been linked to health-related outcomes in private relationships and recent research has started to expand this evidence to ambivalent leadership at the workplace by showing that ambivalent supervisor-employee relationships are related to higher stress levels in employees. However, the mental health consequences of ambivalent leadership have not been examined yet. Using a multilevel approach, this study estimated associations of ambivalent leadership with mental health indicators (depression, anxiety, vital exhaustion, fatigue) in 993 employees from 27 work groups. A total effect of ambivalent leadership was found for all four mental health measures, as well as within-group and between-group effects. The consistent relationships of ambivalent leadership with higher symptoms of mental ill-health at the individual- (i.e., within-group) and the group-level (i.e., between-group) support the existence of an un-confounded association, as well as group effects of collective ambivalence.

Abstract

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies of solids ofC60Fx yield stoichiometries, which reveal the breaking of C-C bonds in the C60 shell. An increase in the degree of fluorination causes a corresponding increase in the level of C-C bond breaking. The breaking of C-C bonds generates CF2 and CF3 groups.

Abstract

The C60 fullerene molecule may be doped with sodium atoms, and a stoichiometric ratio of about 10 sodium atoms to one fullerene has now been achieved. The structure is face-centered cubic up to this maximum ratio, but for a molecule with 11 sodium atoms to one fullerene, X-ray diffraction reveals a nine-atom body-centered cluster of sodium atoms at the octahedral interstitial site. This prevents distortion of the lattice at low temperatures, and should promote superconductivity.

Abstract

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWTs) can produce high yields through laser ablation of carbon targets. Electric-arc techniques have produced only low yields, but a study shows that large quantities of SWNTs can be generated using the technique, producing similar characteristics as with laser ablation. This indicates that the SWNTs growth mechanisms are independent of the details of the technique used to make them.

Abstract

The doping of bulk samples of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) through vapour-phase bromine and potassium reactions are reported. Experiments found that doping reduces resistivity at 300 K by up to a factor of 30, and expands the positive area of temperature coefficient resistance. Results indicate that doped SWNTs form a new family of synthetic metals.

Abstract

A study was conducted on the preparation and characterization of spin cast thin films of fullerenes and fluorinated fullerenes. The spin coating technique was used to prepare the solutions on float glass or silicon wafers. The distances between the fullerenes spheres were obtained. The C60 film-air surface was also found to be very smooth. An irreversible increase of film thickness was also observed when annealing was done under temperatures above 90 degrees celsius.

Abstract

A model having a completely aligned fraction, x-ray fiber diagrams and polarized Raman scattering was used to study maagnetically aligned single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT), in order to characterize the field-induced alignment. Results suggest that in the SWNTs, the anisotropic electrical and thermal transport properties were caused due to the anisotropic morphology of magnetic field-aligned SWNTs.

Abstract

Background We explored the association between work schedules involving nightshifts and selected measures of health and whether these associations differed among those working in either 3- or 4-shift cycles. Methods Employees at a German industrial company who worked on a fixed daytime schedule or on one involving nightshifts were invited to participate in this cross-sectional study. Work schedules involving a nightshift were organized into either 3 or 4 shifts rotated anti-clockwise on a weekly basis. Health characteristics included a range of clinical and physiological measures and self-reported data on stress and sleep quality. We assessed the independent association of work schedules involving any nightshift and these health characteristics in separate regression analyses, adjusting for age, gender, smoking, and alcohol consumption. 45. Unusual thermal stability of a site-ordered MC60 rocksalt structure (M=K, Rb, or Cs)

Abstract

X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry of MxC60, with x∼1 and M=K, Rb, or Cs, reveal an unusual T-dependent phase sequence. A low-symmetry ground state is found, while the high-T limit is an ordered rocksalt structure in which only the octahedral sites are occupied. The unusual high-T stability of this ordered phase is attributed to the entropy of molecular orientational disorder and/or thermal disorder of the alkali-metal ions within the octahedral sites. Unique to KxC60 with x1.4, we find at intermediate temperatures an fcc site-disordered lattice gas phase with random occupancy of tetrahedral and octahedral sites, which is thus isostructural with superconducting K3C60.

50. Local structure of ball-milled carbons for lithium ion batteries: A pair distribution function analysis

Abstract

The local atomic structure of ball-milled carbons was investigated by radial distribution function (RDF) analysis using pulsed time-of-flight neutron diffraction. The results exhibit a gradual loss of long-range order as a function of milling time. Modeling of the elastic structure factors and of the differential correlation functions identified the structure of ball-milled carbons as finite-size graphene fragments whose size decreases continuously with milling time. The large increase in lithium reversible capacity after 20 hours of milling was correlated with the loss of interlayer correlation between graphite flakes, similar to the structure of hard carbons in the `House of Cards' model.
