In this paper, we present the results of an initial study of the research, sharing, and re-use practices at the CHIIR conference through a systematic analysis of all CHIIR papers published from 2016 to 2022. We find that CHIIR is a conference predominantly focused on empirical, multi-methods research that over the years has undergone a focusing in terms of the type of research methods that are being used. A modest number of papers re-use existing data and design resources, but infrastructure component re-use is much more rare. Only a fraction of CHIIR papers actually share their own resources, which suggests that there is much to gain in terms of reproducibility of research presented at CHIIR and could potentially be used to support changes in reviewing practices.

Im Projekt DigitaLRaum untersuchen wir, welche (interaktiven) Elemente ein digitaler (Lehr-/Lern-)Raum benötigt, um die Erfahrungen des physischen Raums zu imitieren und so das aus analog-synchronen Settings gewohnte „Lernerlebnis“ besser zu reproduzieren. Auch für den Anwendungsfall hybrider digital-synchroner Lehr-/Lernsettings mit gemischter Teilnehmendenschaft (Präsenz und digital) sollen die Erkenntnisse des Projekts nutzbar sein. Zwischen Juli und Oktober 2021 wurden die o.g. Fragen in Fokusgruppeninterviews thematisiert, ab November 2021 erfolgt die Prüfung der generierten Hypothesen anhand einer Fragebogenstudie. Parallel dazu wird ein digitaler Zwilling erarbeitet, der mit einem deutlich erweiterten Funktionsumfang den identifizierten Desideraten zu begegnen in der Lage sein soll. Im Projekt wird so zunächst die Universität als Anwendungsfall untersucht. Das langfristige Ziel ist jedoch die Übertragung der Erkenntnisse auf die (Grundschul-)Lehrkräftebildung sowie die Umsetzung von digitalen Klassenzimmern und Exkursionsräumen in der Grundschule. Im Video werden Realraum und digitaler Zwilling einander gegenübergestellt., In the DigitaLRaum project, we are investigating which (interactive) elements a digital (teaching/learning) space needs in order to imitate the experience of the physical space and thus better reproduce the "learning experience" familiar from analogue-synchronous settings. The findings of the project should also be useful for the use case of hybrid digital-synchronous teaching/learning settings with mixed participants (presence and digital). Between July and October 2021, the above questions were addressed in focus group interviews; from November 2021, the generated hypotheses will be tested using a questionnaire study. At the same time, a digital twin is being developed that will be able to meet the identified desiderata with a significantly expanded range of functions. In this way, the project will initially examine the university as a use case. The long-term goal, however, is to transfer the findings to (primary) teacher training and to implement digital classrooms and excursion rooms in primary schools. We studied the collaboration patterns of CHIIR authors, and found that most papers are collaborative. A core of 33% of the CHIIR researchers are directly connected and frequently co-author, and several disconnected clusters also make frequent CHIIR contributions. We also studied citation impact of the CHIIR papers and show that in relation to research design type, theoretical and empirical papers tend to receive more citations than resource papers. With regards to sharing and re-use, papers that share at least one resource tend to have significantly higher citation impact—in particular when sharing data resources and design resources. Re-using resources does not significantly increase citation impact in itself.

Nationallizenz frei zugänglich., In diesem Beitrag werden die Einschränkungen und Konsequenzen für Pflichtpraktika während der COVID-19 Pandemie thematisiert. Im Kontext der Praktikumsberatung des Instituts für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin wurden 81 Einrichtungen kontaktiert und angefragt, welche der Einrichtungen während der andauernden Einschränkungen ein Praktikumsangebot machen. Die Ergebnisse der Befragung, daraus resultierende Konsequenzen sowie Vorschläge für Ersatzleistungen oder Alternativen zum klassischen Praktikum (im digitalen Raum) werden mit den Vor- und Nachteilen beschrieben., The paper investigates the impact of the pandemic and subsequent limitations on student internships required by study programmes. The internship advisory service of the Berlin School of Library and Information Science at Humboldt University contacted 81 institutions to ask whether they offered internships under corona restrictions. The results of this survey are presented here and suggestions for substitutes or digital alternatives to the traditional model of internship are outlined – with their advantages and disadvantages., Peer Reviewed

This paper presents an overview of the BIIRRR 2019 workshop at CHIIR 2019, which had the explicit aim of understanding and promoting re-use of resources for interactive IR experimentation.

Die Lehre und Forschung deckt den Informationskreislauf in seiner Gesamtheit ab, wobei der Fokus auf bibliothekswissenschaftlichen Forschungs- und Anwendungsfragen liegt. Dieser Artikel beschreibt kurz die wissenschaftliche Ausrichtung des IBI und seine Perspektive auf die berufliche Ausbildung, bevor die angebotenen Bachelorstudiengänge Kombinationsbachelor Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft und Informationsmanagement und –technologie am Institut beschrieben werden. In einem weiteren Artikel in diesem Heft werden die Masterstudiengänge beschrieben., The Berlin School of Library and Information Science of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (IBI) is the only German university institute with this kind of disciplinary orientation. Teaching and research cover the entire information circuit while the focus is on research and application issues within library science. This article describes briefly the IBI`s scientific orientation and its perspective towards the vocational training, before details about these Bachelor`s programmes at the institute are given: combined Bachelor`s Programme in Library and Information Science and Information Management and Technology. Im weiterbildenden Masterstudiengang Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft im Fernstudium werden ebenso Referendare und Volontäre für den höheren Bibliotheksdienst ausgebildet. Die Masterstudiengänge bieten sowohl eine forschungsbasierte als auch eine stärker praxisorientierte Perspektive auf das Management von Bibliotheken an. Das IBI ist das einzige universitäre Institut in Deutschland, das dieses Angebot bietet. In einem weiteren Artikel in diesem Heft werden die Bachelorstudiengänge beschrieben., The Berlin School of Library and Information Science of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (IBI) offers three Master’s Programmes: the Master’s Programme in Library and Information Science as a direct course of study, the same programme as an advanced training correspondence course and, as advanced training, the Master’s Programme in Digital Curation (with King’s College London). In the Master’s Programme in Library and Information Science as an advanced training correspondence course, also trainees for the senior library service are trained. The Master’s Programmes offer a research-based as well as a more practise-orientated perspective towards the management of libraries.
