We have investigated the He buffer gas process of moderating the kinetic energy of the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) plume during EuxY2−xO3 phosphor film growth. When using a neodymium yttrium aluminum garnet laser for PLD thin film growth, the kinetic energy of the ablation plumes can be high enough to cause the formation of point defects in the film. The buffer gas pressure is an important process parameter in PLD film growth. We find that the presence of the He buffer gas reduces the kinetic energy of the laser deposition plume through many low-angle collisions in the gas phase by a factor of 7 without reducing the deposition rate. This is because He is much lighter than any of the elements in the plume and it does not affect the composition of the oxide films. Consequently, the resputtering of the Y2O3 film surface by the plume was significantly suppressed in the presence of the He gas moderator, leading to a decrease of the defect density in the Y2O3 films. The improvement of the film quality was verified by a systematic analysis of time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) data for EuxY2−xO3 composition–gradient films. The PL lifetime and intensity of Eu0.2Y1.8O3, which shows the highest PL intensity, increased by 13.3% and 36.4%, respectively, when the He gas moderation process was used. The He buffer gas process is applicable to the PLD growth of the other oxide materials as well, where the reduction of the kinetic energy of the plume would bring the PLD process closer to the molecular beam epitaxy growth condition. Rare-earth iron garnets (REIGs) are the benchmark systems for magnonics, including the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect (LSSE). While most research has focused on single-crystalline REIGs on complimentary garnet substrates, moving to more, cost-effective complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible substrates is important to integrate REIG thin films with existing technology. In this regard, we grow a 130 nm-thick polycrystalline gadolinium iron garnet (GdIG) film on the Si/SiO2 substrate and investigate the temperature-dependent LSSE. Interestingly, the polycrystalline GdIG film exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) at room temperature which is induced by tensile in-plane (IP)-strain originating from the thermal-expansion mismatch between the GdIG film and the substrate during rapid thermal annealing. Further, a spin-reorientation transition from the out-of-plane IP direction below TS = 180 K is observed. Additionally, the film reveals a magnetic compensation temperature, T Comp , of ≈240 K. The LSSE voltage not only demonstrates a sign-inversion around T Comp , but also shows noticeable changes around T S. As compared to a single-crystalline GdIG film, the lower LSSE voltage for the polycrystalline GdIG is attributed to the higher effective magnetic anisotropy and enhanced magnon scattering at the grain boundaries. Our study not only paves the way for the cost-effective growth of CMOS-compatible REIG-based systems with PMA for magnonic memory and information processing applications, but also highlights the fact that the spincaloritronic and spin-insulatronic properties of the polycrystalline REIGs follow those of their single-crystalline counterparts with reduced spin-to-charge conversion efficiency through LSSE which can be tuned further by controlling the average gran size and interface engineering. The development of medical, military, and other fields has greatly increased the demand for broadband near-infrared light sources. This article reports that Sr 3 Sc 2 Ge 3 O 12 : Cr3+ (SSGO: Cr3+), a broadband near-infrared phosphor with 850 nm as the luminescence center, has an emission spectrum covering 700–1200 nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 125 nm under 490 nm excitation. To further increase the FWHM value, Yb3+ is introduced into the phosphor of SSGO: Cr3+ to enable energy transfer from Cr3+ to Yb3+. After doping 1 % of Yb3+ onto the Sr2+ site, the near-infrared emission generated by the 4A 2 →4T 1 (4P) transition of Cr3+ and the near-infrared emission generated by the 2F 5/2 → 2F 7/2 transition of Yb3+ work so that the FWHM increases to 220 nm. In addition, the thermal stability of the phosphor after co-doping with Yb3+ is also greatly enhanced from 61.6 % to 75.1 % by comparing it to the Cr3+ single-doped sample. In this article, we report on the formation of a low-temperature garnet phase in Mn-substituted Y 3 Fe 5-x Mn x O 12 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.15, and 0.25) nanopowders. We studied the structural, microstructural, static, and dynamic magnetic properties of Mn-substituted Y 3 Fe 5-x Mn x O 12 (YIG) nanopowders calcined at two different temperatures. The Mn-substituted garnet powders were synthesized using the citrate combustion method followed by calcination at 800 and 1200 °C for 3 h. An increase in Mn substitution (x = 0.15, 0.25) favored the growth of a single garnet phase at low temperatures, even at 800 °C. The lattice constant of these samples ranged from 12.3815 to 12.3679 Å. Microstructural and morphological studies revealed the growth of homogeneous and dense particles, with an average particle size in the range of ∼35–58 nm, close to the single-domain particle size in YIG. Microwave resonance spectra and magnetic hysteresis curves revealed the formation of a ferromagnetic phase in undoped and Mn-doped garnet ferrites at room temperature. The maximum saturation magnetization (26 emu/g) was observed for the sample with Mn content x = 0.05 at 1200 °C, while the largest coercivity (33 Oe) was found for the sample with Mn content x = 0.15 at 1200 °C, among all the samples. The increase in Mn content led to a decrease in peak-to-peak linewidth of FMR spectra from 698.8 to 569.4 G at 800 °C and from 916 to 614.7 G at 1200 °C. Alumina-yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG)-zirconia composites are often produced by the melt solidification method. In the present study, we investigated the fabrication of α-Al 2 O 3 /Y 3 Al 5 O 12 (YAG)/ZrO 2 composite by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) of powders synthesized by Pechini's sol-gel method. The ternary composites with homogenous microstructure and high density were produced by SPS at 1300 °C for 15 min. The addition of ZrO 2 promoted the sintering of composites, resulting in a higher density and, in turn, higher hardness. A series of garnet-type solid-solution materials, namely NaxCa3−2xGdxIn2Ge3O12:Cr3+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.5), were created by introducing cationic disorder into the dodecahedral site, and were found to exhibit a nearly unchanged excitation peak in the blue light region, a wide-range spectral tunability (800–905 nm) and an ultra-broadband spectral coverage (fwhmmax = 205 nm). Garnet‐type Li6.5La3Zr1.5Ta0.5O12 (LLZTO) solid electrolytes provide the necessary electrochemical stability and ionic conductivity for solid‐state lithium‐metal batteries (SSLMBs). However, their wider application is hindered by their high interfacial resistance with electrodes and a lengthy synthesis process. This study presents the synthesis of densified LLZTO electrolytes using unconventional Li2O and Li2ZrO3 precursors through an ultrafast (≈60 s) Joule heat‐assisted synthesis approach in a single‐step process. The lower sintering temperature of Li2ZrO3 compared to traditional ZrO2 precursor yields LLZTO with larger grains, resulting in enhanced Li+ conductivity (7.0 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 25 °C), reduced electronic conductivity (1.7 × 10−10 S cm−1), and higher density (94.2%). Applying a 52–80 nm Sn:SnF2 coating on the LLZTO surface using a melt‐quenching approach produces a uniform interlayer that chemically converts to Li‐Sn alloy and LiF upon contact with lithium, resulting in a near‐zero interfacial resistance and a critical current density of 4.2 mA cm−2 at 25 °C. The SSLMBs, incorporating Sn:SnF2‐coated LLZTO electrolyte with NMC811 cathode, demonstrate remarkable initial capacity (181.1 mAh g−1) and cycle performance (88.63% capacity retention at 3000th cycle). In situ age and trace element determinations of monazite, rutile and zircon grains from an ultrahigh temperature (UHT) metapelite‐hosted leucosome from the Napier Complex using laser split‐stream analysis reveal highly variable behaviour in both the U–Pb and trace element systematics that can be directly linked to the microstructural setting of individual grains. Monazite grains armoured by garnet and quartz retain two concordant ages 2.48 and 2.43 Ga that are consistent with the previously determined ages for peak UHT metamorphism in the Napier Complex. Yttrium in the armoured grains is unzoned with contents of ~700 ppm for the garnet‐hosted monazite and in the range 400–1,600 ppm for the monazite enclosed within quartz. A monazite grain hosted within mesoperthite records a spread of ages from 2.43 to 2.20 Ga and Y contents ranging between 400 and 1,700 ppm. This grain exhibits core to rim zoning in both Y and age, with the cores enriched in Y relative to the rim and younger ages in the core relative to the rim. A monazite grain that sits on a grain boundary between mesoperthite and garnet records the largest spread in ages—from 2.42 to 2.05 Ga. The youngest ages in this grain are within a linear feature that reaches the core and is connected to the grain boundary between the garnet and mesoperthite; the oldest ages are observed where monazite is in contact with garnet. Yttrium in the grain is enriched in the core and depleted at the rim with the strongest depletions where monazite is adjacent to grain boundaries between the silicate minerals or in contact with garnet. The unarmoured monazite grains have lower intercept ages of 1.85 Ga, which overlaps with the bulk of ages determined from the rutile and is coincident with a previously reported zircon age obtained through depth profiling from the Napier Complex. The age and chemical relationships outlined above illustrate decoupling between the geochemical and geochronological systems in monazite. Individual grains are suggestive of a range of processes that modify these systems, including volume diffusion, flux‐limited diffusion and fluid‐enhanced recrystallization, all operating at the scale of a single thin section and primarily controlled by host mineral microstructural setting. These findings illustrate how the development of simple partitioning coefficients (cf. garnet/zircon) and geospeedometry based on experimentally determined diffusion coefficients on grain separates may not be achievable. However, it highlights the utility of combining age and trace element concentrations from multiple accessory minerals with microstructural information when trying to build a complete history of tectonothermal events experienced by an ancient rock system that has undergone a prolonged history of thermal, deformational and fluid flow events. Granulite facies metapelitic gneisses collected over a 200×120 km exposed area of the Kakamas Domain of the Namaqua–Natal Metamorphic Province in southern Namibia all contain similar garnet–sillimanite–cordierite–biotite–quartz–K‐feldspar–ilmenite ± plagioclase ± magnetite mineral assemblages. These assemblages are interpreted to have equilibrated at suprasolidus retrograde conditions, and most samples contain distinct biotite‐ or sillimanite‐free peak assemblages. Pseudosection modelling constrains extremely uniform residuum solidus conditions of 5.5±1 kbar and 790±30°C for the entire Kakamas Domain. Estimated peak metamorphic conditions overlap with these but are more smeared out at between 4 and 7 kbar at 760°C to potentially more than 900°C. The uniformity of residuum solidus conditions is not coincidental, but is a consequence of retrograde re‐equilibration due to minor melt retention after peak metamorphism. Re‐equilibration could only stop once all retained melt had crystallized, which required the concomitant growth of a hydrous mineral to account for its H2O component. Biotite is the most stable hydrous mineral in these rocks, such that the residuum P– T conditions in the Kakamas Domain reflect the upper‐ T stability of biotite, and also corresponds to the intersection of the well‐known biotite–sillimanite melting reaction that consumed all biotite during prograde metamorphism. The calculated melt fertility of the sample suite indicates that the variable amounts of heat consumed to overcome the latent heat of fusion could have caused a 25°C spread in the peak temperature achieved by the most and least fertile samples. Peak temperature in the Kakamas Domain may have been as much as 100°C higher than residuum solidus conditions for specific samples but cannot be confidently constrained as it is obscured by the effects of both thermal buffering during prograde metamorphism and melt retention during retrograde metamorphism. Both processes are an inescapable part of the evolution of all granulite facies rocks, but their effects are most pronounced in fertile rocks like metapelites that are traditionally the preferred lithology for quantifying the P– T history of exhumed terranes. Background: Lithium penetration-induced fracture within solid electrolytes (SEs) is a major issue hindering the commercialization of solid-state lithium-ion batteries (SS-LIBs). Such fracture has been frequently observed during electrochemical plating of lithium (Li)-metal anodes, but its mechanistic origin is still largely unclear. Objective: We present the first quantitative operando analysis of the fracture characteristics of a model SE material under battery-relevant electrochemical cycling conditions. Methods: Full-field deformation during Li deposition-induced cracking of garnet-type LLZTO was measured using the digital image correlation (DIC) method. The obtained displacement data were denoised via equilibrium smoothing, and then fitted to the linear elastic asymptotic crack-tip field to extract the electrochemical fracture toughness values under different current densities. Results: The physics-based equilibrium smoothing method demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing the accuracy of DIC measurements. The electrochemical fracture toughness obtained was substantially lower than the mechanical fracture toughness of the same material determined through indentation, attributed to combined effects of electrochemical embrittlement and a transition in fracture mode from intergranular to transgranular. Conclusion: The discrepancy between the two types of fracture toughness suggests that electrochemical cycling could have a significant impact on the fracture mode and resistance of a solid electrolyte. In the study of the Khanmeikhoi Formation of the central zone of the Kharbei amphibolite–gneiss complex, it was shown that the amphibolites, schists, and plagiogneisses common here form two primary igneous series: low-alumina tholeiitic metabasalts of normal alkalinity and a differentiated series of high-alumina rocks from metatrachybasalts to metarhyolites with high alkalinity. According to the zoning of garnets, progressive and regressive branches of metamorphism are recorded, the peak conditions of which, according to calculations using the winTWQ program, correspond to the high-temperature stage of the amphibolite facies at high pressures (T = 690–750°C, P = 8.1–9.4 kbar). For the first time, metamorphic zircon from Grt-Bi plagiogneiss with low Th/U ratios of 0.01–0.04 and weakly expressed positive cerium (Ce/Ce* = 1.4–1.7) and negative europium (Eu/Eu* = 0.7–0.9) has been identified in the anomalies, the age of which, according to the results of the U–Pb LA-ICP-MS isotope method, is estimated to be Early Carboniferous (359–341 Ma). This time apparently characterizes the transition from the peak of metamorphism to the regressive stage associated with the exhumation of rocks. The results obtained indicate the formation of the Kharbei amphibolite–gneiss complex during the formation of the Ural orogen and allow us to consider it as an indicator of Paleozoic collision processes. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (E-KOB) in the northern Tibet Plateau has undergone a long multi-stage history of drifting, accretion, and collision of the Proto- and Palaeo-Tethyan oceans. It has been addressed a trench-arc-back-arc basin system of the Proto-Tethys in the E-KOB, and the tectonic history of this major ocean has been well constrained by previous studies. However, the evolution of the back-arc basin still remains unclear. In this study, the Yugusayi monzodiorite, quartz-bearing syenite, and gradually contacted skarn rocks characterized by garnet megacrysts, in the North Qimantagh Belt were investigated. To reveal the tectonic setting and skarnization mechanism, geochemical and geochronological studies were conducted on the intrusions and garnet skarn, and the elemental compositions of the garnet megacrysts were also analysed. These monzodioritic rocks have high MgO (6.87–8.31 wt.%), Sr and La contents, low Y and Yb contents, and relatively high La/Yb (31–55) and Sr/Y (41–51) ratios, resembling to high-Mg adakites. They display right-sloping chondrite-normalized REE patterns, enriched in LILEs, and depleted in Ti with significant Nb-Ta troughs, which are similar to those of continental arc rocks. Zircons from monzodiorite and skarn samples have contemporaneous U-Pb ages of 459 ± 3 Ma and 454 ± 4 Ma with εHf(t) values of − 8.53 to − 4.64 and − 7.7 to + 12.8, respectively. In addition, the chemical zoning garnet megacrysts are composed mainly of grossular and andraditic grossular, and are characterized by spoon-shaped REE patterns. Based on our new data and the regional geology, it can be concluded that the Yugusayi intrusive rocks formed in a subduction-related tectonic setting and resulted in the skarnization. These data not only provide key constraints on the initial subduction of the Qimantagh back-arc basin's oceanic crust, but also offer a unique opportunity to explore the Caledonian skarnization in the Qimantagh Belt. Ti(C, N)‐based cermets have been considered to be the most potential candidates for WC‐Co cemented carbides as tool material due to their various advantages. However, the trade‐off between hardness/strength and toughness limits their further application. Herein, we present new (Ti, W, Mo, Cr)(C, N)‐based cermets showing superior mechanical properties with hardness of 1525 MPa, transverse rupture strength of 2428 MPa, and fracture toughness of 11.44 MPa·m1/2 by compositional and interfacial modification. The strengthening and toughening mechanisms were revealed by experimental observation and theory calculation. It could be clarified that the high elastic modulus caused by a polar covalent bond in the hard phase and solid solution strengthening of the binder phase attributed to the hardness. The strong interface bonding between the core/rim, inner/outer rim, and rim/binder phases stemming from the composition optimization contributed to super crack resistance. Intergranular fracture in submicron‐scaled hard phases led to the crack deflection, transgranular fracture in the micron‐scaled hard phases consumed more energy due to their high intrinsic hardness and excellent interface coordination. [Display omitted] • In situ U–Pb ages of garnet (∼203 Ma) and vesuvianite (∼145 Ma) indicate two stage skarnization at Nanyangtian. • Scheelite U–Pb ages of 141–146 Ma reveal an Early Cretaceous W mineralization event in SE Yunnan. • The age of 141–146 Ma is likely associated with the subduction of Paleo-Pacific plate. The Nanyangtian W deposit, located in the Laojunshan district, is the largest W deposit in southeastern Yunnan, China. However, before that, the mineralization age of this deposit is still controversial, since the absence of suitable dating minerals and methods. In this study, garnet and vesuvianite, the typical skarn minerals, and scheelite, the dominant ore mineral at Nanyangtian, were selected for LA–ICP–MS U–Pb dating to directly constrain the ages of skarn and W mineralization. As a result, two layered garnet samples together yield a Tera–Wasserburg lower intercept age of 203.2 ± 8.7 Ma, whereas two vein-type vesuvianite samples yield ages of 144.4 ± 3.7 Ma and 145.9 ± 3.1 Ma, identical within error to the ages of 141.5 ± 7.2–145.5 ± 2.9 Ma obtained from micro-disseminated and veinlet-like scheelite. The above dating results and the geological observations that ore-barren layered garnet cut by later quartz–scheelite–(garnet)–(vesuvianite) hydrothermal veins suggest two stages of skarnization in the Nanyangtian deposit (ca. 203 Ma and ca. 141–146 Ma, respectively), whereas the W mineralization occurred during ca. 141–146 Ma. It is inferred that the age of ∼203 Ma is related to Indosinian regional metamorphism and associated migmatization-hydrothermal activity. Nevertheless, the ages of 141–146 Ma, obviously older than those of the adjacent Laojunshan granitic pluton (∼83–97 Ma) and its associated Dulong Sn–Zn polymetallic deposit (∼82–96 Ma), are possibly attributable to another unrevealed magmatic-hydrothermal system at depth, as a result of Paleo-Pacific subduction during the Early Cretaceous period. A two-period superimposed mineralization model is thus proposed at Nanyangtian. Based on all reported age data, four major magmatic-metallogenic episodes ranging from ca. 445–410 Ma, 215–203 Ma, 152–140 Ma to 100–75 Ma have been determined in the Laojunshan district. In recent times, there has been a significant focus on research into the creation of an environmentally sustainable and pollution-free hydrogen storage cell power system. Over the last ten years, a number of significant advancements in energy storage methods have been developed, impacting research, innovation, and the likely course for furthering our understanding of energy storage. We suggest a hydrogen energy storage device built using cutting-edge electrochemical techniques and electrode materials. As active materials, a range of nanocomposites based on gadolinium aluminate (Gd 4 Al 2 O 9) and carbonous compounds were created. For the fabrication of Gd 4 Al 2 O 9 nanostructures, ultrasonic radiation was used in the presence of Schiff-base ligands of N ,N′-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (H 2 Salen), N,N 0 -disalicylidene-1,4-di-aminobutane (H 2 Salbn) and N , N ′-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-phenylenediamine (H 2 Salophen). Diverse carbon-based materials of g-C 3 N 4 , GO and CNT were utilized for designing nanocomposites. After 15 cycles, the hydrogen storage capacities of pure Gd 4 Al 2 O 9 were found to be 121 mAhg−1. Then, in the fifteenth cycle, the nanocomposites' capacity rose to 278 mAhg−1 at a current of 1 mA for designed nanocomposite with GO. The CNT can increase the capacity to 302 mAhg−1 (11th cycle) but the fading capacity was occurred after 11th cycle to 112 (15th cycle). The g-C 3 N 4 led to decrease in capacity due to blocking the pore and active sites of Gd 4 Al 2 O 9 nanostructures. Schematic 1. Garnet-type Li6.1Ga0.3La3Zr2O12 (LGLZO) exhibits high ionic conductivity and extremely low electronic conductivity. The electrochemical properties strongly depend on the characteristics of the grain boundaries and pores in the oxide–ceramic electrolyte. Currently, the main issue of LGLZO is its large grain boundary resistance due to high-temperature sintering. Herein, we propose an effective method for reinforcing the chemical and structural characteristics of the grain boundaries using a Li2O-B2O3-Al2O3 (LBA) sintering aid. In this study, the LBA sintering aid is critical because it fills grain boundaries and void spaces. As a result, LGLZO solid-state electrolytes with sintering aids significantly enhance the ionic conductivity and reduce the activation energy, especially in the grain boundary region. Another crucial issue is the formation of Li dendrites in LGLZO. Since dendritic Li propagates along the grain boundaries, the optimized LGLZO solid-state electrolyte demonstrates excellent stability against Li metals. Overall, the LGLZO electrolyte with the LBA sintering aid exhibits stable long-term cycling performance due to the well-designed grain boundaries. The addition of Li2O-B2O3-Al2O3 (LBA) sintering aid to Li6.1Ga0.3La3Zr2O12 (LGLZO) solid electrolytes enhances grain boundary characteristics and reduces porosity. This modification leads to a substantial increase in ionic conductivity and mechanical stability, while effectively preventing Li dendrite formation. The optimized LGLZO sample with LBA exhibits improved long-term cycling performance, making it a promising candidate for high-performance all-solid-state batteries. The residue generated during the production process of alumina, known as red mud, is a type of solid waste. The engineering properties of red mud can be significantly enhanced through the modification and solidification using inorganic materials. This study primarily utilized red mud as the raw material, supplemented with fly ash, lime, and clay, to conduct a solidification experiment of red mud. Orthogonal tests with three factors of two ash ratio (ratio of lime to fly ash), two ash content (total lime and fly ash), and red mud types were designed to study the changes of different ratios and maintenance conditions, etc., on the engineering properties of red mud. In addition, the micro-mechanisms of modified red mud were investigated by means of XRF, XRD, SEM and EDX. The results show that for optimum moisture content, red mud types are the most important influencing factor and for maximum dry density, two ash content is the most important influencing factor. For strength characteristics, the optimum two ash ratio was 1.5:1, the optimum two ash content was 50%, and the optimum red mud types were 70% CRM (red mud made of Chalco Shandong Co., Ltd) mixed with 30% clay. The addition of lime, fly ash, and clay improves the temperature shrinkage coefficient of the red mud. Through the analysis of microscopic composition and structure, it can be seen that goethite (α-FeO(OH)) and magnetite (γ-Fe2O3) in the red mud reacted with the modified materials to generate crystalline aluminosilicate and amorphous hydrated silicate gel, and these products together with the original calcium carbonate (CaCO3), tricalcium aluminate (Ca3Al2O6) and garnet (Ca3TiFeSi3O12) in the red mud which have certain strengths enhance the structural strength of the modified red mud. The optimum ratio obtained from the combined test results was lime: fly ash: CRM = 30:20:50. Far‐red (FR) and near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technologies have attracted extensive attention. How to obtain luminescent materials suitable to FR‐NIR phosphor‐converted light‐emitting diodes (pc‐LEDs) is a crucial challenge. Herein, a Si3N4‐substitution strategy is employed to regulate the luminescence of Gd3Ga5O12:Cr3+ (GGG:Cr3+) phosphors. The bandwidth of GGG:Cr3+ is 95 nm, and then it is broadened to 116 nm due to the Si3N4‐substitution. Furthermore, at 423 K the thermal stability is enhanced to 98.7% of that at room temperature, which is higher than the reported 92.7%@423 K for the Si3N4‐free sample. The intensity of the optimal specimen is elevated 2.9 times compared with the Si3N4‐free sample sintered at the same condition. The FR pc‐LED is manufactured by using the optimized sample, and its FR output power is 47.1 mW with a conversion efficiency of 15.9% driven by 100 mA. Highlights The solid particle erosive wear performance of basalt fiber‐reinforced epoxy composites with the incorporation of different percentages of milled carbon fiber fillers (0–10 wt%) is evaluated under various abrasive materials (garnet and ceramic beads) and impingement angles (30° and 90°). Erosion tests have been carried out following ASTM G76 standards using a factorial design method. The data indicate that the erosion rates, crater depths, and areas of craters are all strongly dependent on erodent material type and milled carbon fiber filler ratio. Compared to ceramic beads, garnet abrasives caused severe erosion, with erosion rates reaching approximately 500 mg/g at a 90° impingement angle without milled carbon fiber fillers. Erosion by both abrasives was significantly reduced by the introduction of milled carbon fiber fillers into the basalt fiber composites, with the erosion rate decreasing to around 100 mg/g with 3 wt% milled carbon fiber fillers. The maximum crater depth was also influenced; garnet abrasives produced craters as deep as 1000 μm without fillers at 90°, which was reduced to 451 μm with 3 wt% milled carbon fiber fillers when ceramic beads were used. Of the three factors for the erosion rate and crater depth, inorganic erodent material and ratio of carbon fiber filler were prominent, but the impingement angle effect was much smaller. Among the three factors for the erosion rate and crater depth, erodent material and carbon fiber filler ratio were prominent, while the impingement angle effect was significantly less. The garnet abrasives cause more severe erosion than ceramic beads at 90°. Composites exhibit optimal erosion resistance with 3–5 wt% milled carbon fiber fillers. A Yb3+‐doped Gd3Al2Ga3O12 garnet (GAGG) Boltzmann thermometer is prepared and studied in this work. Due to the Boltzmann distribution of the population of Stark sublevels of Yb3+, the photoluminescence peaks of Yb3+ in the wavelength range of 950–1000 and 1000–1050 nm exhibit opposite temperature dependencies, which makes the luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) of two Yb3+ peaks work as a luminescence thermometer with a relative sensitivity of 1.6% K−1 at 200 K. It is worth nothing that this LIR value still follows the Arrhenius model at temperatures as low as 200 K. In these results, it is suggested that Yb3+‐doped GAGG thermometer can achieve high sensitivity for accurate temperature measurements. In addition, the accurate position of various Stark sublevels of Yb3+ in GAGG is obtained for the first time. Near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phosphors are extensively used as NIR phosphor‐converted light‐emitting diodes across various applications. Nonetheless, their application in fiber communication remains underexplored. Furthermore, efficiency challenges persist in developing broadband NIR crystal fiber amplifiers. A series of the Y3−yAl5−xO12:xCr,yCa2+ phosphors with boosted Cr4+ concentration via calcium charge compensation is synthesized, and the optimized sample is fabricated to crystal fibers to reveal the application of the NIR‐II phosphors to fiber communication. The fabricated Cr4+‐doped crystal fiber, exhibiting broadband Cr4+ emission within 1100–1600 nm, effectively covers the high‐transmission loss region caused by water absorption in the telecommunication band. Comprehensive characterization and analyses of the Cr4+ are discussed. Y2.84Al4.9O12:0.1Cr,0.16Ca2+ crystal fiber, fabricated through phosphor synthesis, pellets’ production, and the laser‐heated pedestal growth method, exhibits superior photoluminescence compared to the commercial Cr4+‐doped Y3Al5O12 crystal fiber. George Barrow's maps (1893, 1912) of the metamorphic zones named after him in the south‐eastern Scottish Highlands, show a prominent staurolite zone running from the west of Glen Clova to the North Sea coast near Stonehaven in the east. Pelitic mica schists throughout this zone commonly show principal mineral assemblages of staurolite+biotite+garnet+muscovite +quartz (St + Bt + Grt), with sodic plagioclase, ilmenite and sometimes magnetite as common accessories; these schists have bulk compositions corresponding with those of common Dalradian metasediments. However, the mineral assemblages on the low‐ and high‐grade margins of the staurolite zone show evidence of changes from west to east. Lower grade assemblages near Stonehaven include chloritoid+biotite, which has not been found further west in the classic ‘Barrovian’ sequence; whilst the higher grade assemblages near Stonehaven lack kyanite, which is widely seen further west. The Stonehaven area has been suggested to have under gone metamorphism at lower pressure (P) than the classic region of the ‘Glens’ inland to the west.This paper describes the occurrence at middle grade in the broad staurolite zone, of unusual bulk rock compositions showing high ratios of Fe2O3/(Fe2O3 + FeO) and MgO/(MgO + FeO) (abbreviated to M/FM). The high M/FM assemblages are distinct from those of the common St‐Bt‐Grt schists. The high ratios of ferric to ferrous iron are thought to result from original sedimentary protolith compositions, that led to metamorphism at relatively high conditions of oxygen fugacity (ƒo2), and resulted in the formation of haematite‐bearing assemblages, rather than ones carrying accessory ilmenite and magnetite as in the common St + Bt + Grt rocks.In the west (Glen Lethnot), the haematite‐bearing pelites show the occurrence of kyanite at a distinctly lower grade than the common (haematite‐free) pelites, and a transition from staurolite‐biotite (St + Bt) through staurolite–kyanite‐biotite (St + Ky + Bt) to kyanite‐biotite (Ky‐Bt) assemblages occurs with increasing abundance of haematite and higher bulk M/FM values. In all bulk compositions, the upgrade formation of kyanite may be associated with the movement of the St + Ky + Bt assemblage to lower M/FM bulk compositions with increasing temperature (T). The difference in the temperature of lowest‐grade kyanite formation in haematite‐rich schists, compared with that in common haematite‐free schists may approach 50°C.In the east (Stonehaven section), the haematite‐bearing assemblages are much rarer than in Glen Lethnot, but those found so far are very distinctive in showing large porphyroblasts of probable cordierite (typically altered to chlorite and sericite). Occasional assemblages of andalusite‐cordierite‐biotite (And‐Crd‐Bt) also occur in the haematite‐bearing rocks and confirm lower pressures of metamorphism near Stonehaven than those seen further west in Glens Clova, Lethnot and Esk. In situ garnet Lu‐Hf geochronology has the potential to revolutionise the chronology of petrological and tectonic processes, yet there is a paucity of well‐characterised reference materials to account for laser‐induced matrix‐dependant elemental fractionation. Here, we characterise two reference garnets GWA‐1 (Lu ~ 7.0 μg g−1) and GWA‐2 (Lu ~ 8.5 μg g−1) for in situ garnet Lu‐Hf geochronology. Isochron ages from isotope dilution Lu‐Hf analyses yield crystallisation ages of 1267.0 ± 3.0 Ma with initial 176Hf/177Hfi of 0.281415 ± 0.000012 (GWA‐1), and 934.7 ± 1.4 Ma with 176Hf/177Hfi of 0.281386 ± 0.000013 (GWA‐2). In situ Lu‐Hf analyses yield inverse isochron ages up to 10% older than the known crystallisation age due to matrix effects between garnet and reference glass (NIST SRM 610) under different instrument tuning conditions. This apparent age offset is reproducible for both materials within the same session and can be readily corrected to obtain accurate ages. Our results demonstrate that GWA‐1 and GWA‐2 are robust reference materials that can be used to correct for matrix‐analytical effects and also to assess the accuracy of in situ Lu‐Hf garnet analyses across a range of commonly encountered garnet compositions. Garnet U‐Pb dating by laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry requires the development of matrix‐matched reference materials of variable chemistry and U mass fraction for accurate analysis. Additional calibration of existing primary reference materials is also justified based on the relatively poor calibration of some of the widely available primary reference materials that are currently utilised by the geoscience community. We present a micro sampling workflow combined with a refined ID‐TIMS methodology for the generation of high precision (~ 0.1%) U‐Pb dates from domains within garnet single crystals. Using this workflow, we calibrated two new natural andradite reference materials, the Jumbo andradite (And99; 110.34 ± 0.03 (0.04) [0.13] Ma, n = 7, MSWD = 1.21) and the Tiptop andradite (And87; 209.57 ± 0.11 (0.13) [0.26] Ma, n = 6, MSWD = 1.39). We also present additional calibration of the widely utilised Willsboro‐Lewis andradite primary reference material (And90; 1024.7 ± 9.5 (9.6) [9.6] Ma (2s; overdispersed), n = 6). Laser diode (LD)‐pumped phosphor‐converted near‐infrared (NIR) lighting source predicts a “brighter” future for active imaging and non‐destructive detection, with improved imaging resolution and detection accuracy to expand more application scenarios. To meet a variety of requirements for LD‐pumped phosphor color converters, herein, a novel CaLu2Mg2Si3O12:Ce3+, Cr3+, Nd3+ (CLMS:Ce3+, Cr3+, Nd3+) phosphor‐in‐glass film (PiGF) sintered on sapphire substrate (SP) composite is fabricated. By introducing a rapid infrared firing technique, the good luminescence properties of phosphor powders are maintained in the PiGF due to the trivial thermally‐aggressive effect of glass components on phosphor particles. The multiple energy transfers (ETs) among Ce3+, Cr3+, and Nd3+ enhance the NIR luminescence of Cr3+ and Nd3+, and simultaneously extend the spectral range to cover the NIR‐I and NIR‐II regions. The luminescent behaviors of samples are carefully examined under different laser excitation modes to gain more insights into laser‐matter interaction. A watt‐level output is achieved by applying appropriate thermal and optical management. A comparative study is performed on the luminescence saturation mechanism of CLMS:Ce3+, Cr3+, Nd3+ PiGF showing different contributions of thermal quenching and intensity quenching among these three ions. (Ultra)high‐pressure metamorphic rocks provide valuable insights into the properties of slab‐derived fluids. Here, we report CH4‐rich fluid inclusions in garnet of a metapelite from the Zermatt‐Saas ophiolite, western Alps. Two types of metapelite, a CH4‐bearing pelitic schist and a calcareous pelitic schist, were investigated to unravel favorable P‐T‐fO2 conditions for preservation of CH4 in high‐pressure metapelite. In the CH4‐bearing pelitic schist, CH4‐rich fluid inclusions exclusively occur in the core of garnet (GrtI) rather than the rim (GrtII). GrtI records P‐T conditions of ∼2.85 GPa and ∼555°C, whereas GrtII records a prograde P‐T path from ∼1.75 GPa at 510°C to ∼2.0 GPa at 530°C. Compositional profile of garnet in the calcareous pelitic schist reflects a prograde metamorphic path from ∼1.9 GPa at 510°C to ∼2.12 GPa at 545°C. CH4‐rich fluid formation may primarily rise from graphite reduction at high‐pressure reduced conditions (ΔFMQ −3.5 to −4, 2.85 GPa, ∼550°C), while graphite and carbonates stabilize in a relatively oxidized environment (ΔFMQ ∼0, 2.12 GPa, 545°C). The initial redox budget of subducted sediments is primarily controlled by the amount of sedimentary carbonate and organic carbon, which plays the most important role in deciding the carbon speciation at different subduction depths. CH4 formation in COH fluids could primarily be attributed to the reduction of graphite. Subducted metasediments act as conduits for transporting non‐oxidized fluids to arc magmas, which provides crucial evidence to support the heterogeneity for slab‐derived COH fluids and offers new insights into the deep carbon cycle. Plain Language Summary: Subducting slab releases COH fluids at different depths, which can metasomatize and enrich the overlying mantle wedge and lead to changes in the nature of the arc magma source. However, due to the complex redox state of the subduction zone, the properties of the COH fluids released from the slab are not well understood. Carbon, as a crucially redox‐sensitive element, its speciation serves as a significant indicator of the redox state within the subducting slab. We discovered numerous graphite and CH4 fluid inclusions within garnet in high‐pressure metasedimentary rocks. These findings suggest that subducting slabs may possess more reduced properties, potentially releasing non‐oxidized fluids. We also selected another metapelite sample without methane but with graphite and carbonate for comparative analysis. We determined P‐T conditions of the metamorphic peak stage through detailed thermodynamic modeling and estimated the oxygen fugacity at this stage. Our findings show that graphite and methane are stable in a highly reduced environment, whereas coexistence of graphite and carbonate occurs in a more oxidized environment. The formation of CH4 likely results from the reduction of graphite with fluid. These observations highlight the heterogeneity of slab‐derived fluids and the complex redox properties of the subducting slab. Ultrahigh‐temperature (UHT; >900°C) metamorphism drives crustal differentiation and is widely recognized in the rock record, but its geodynamic causes are debated. Previous work on granulite‐facies metapelite xenoliths from San Luis Potosí, Mexico suggests the lower crust experienced a protracted UHT metamorphic event that coincided with the onset of regional extension. To determine the duration, conditions, and heat sources of UHT metamorphism recorded by these xenoliths, this study characterizes the major‐element, trace‐element, and U‐Pb isotopic systematics of quartz, rutile, feldspar, garnet, and zircon by in situ electron microprobe (EPMA) and laser‐ablation inductively coupled‐plasma mass spectrometry (LA‐ICP‐MS), and augments these data with detailed petrography, thermobarometry, phase equilibria modeling, and diffusion modeling. Thermobarometry and phase equilibria modeling suggest peak metamorphic conditions exceeded 0.7 GPa and 900°C. Zircon petrochronology confirms >15 Myr of UHT conditions since its onset at ∼30 Ma. A small population of zircon record elevated temperatures following transition from backarc compression to extension during the waning stages of orogenesis (60–37 Ma). Garnet preserves trace‐element zoning and mineral inclusions consistent with suprasolidus garnet growth and subsequent compositional modification by intracrystalline rare‐earth element diffusion during protracted heating, with diffusion chronometry timescales in agreement with zircon data, followed by fluid‐driven remobilization of trace elements along now‐healed fractures within ∼1 Myr of eruption. In sum, these data are most compatible with lithospheric mantle attenuation or removal as the dominant heat transport mechanism driving synextensional UHT metamorphism and crustal melting, which has bearing on models for crustal differentiation and formation of modern and ancient granulite terranes globally. One setting where significant partial melting can occur is in a high‐temperature granulite terrane, such as the lower crust beneath the Basin and Range province of southwestern North America. The Basin and Range province is a region where the continent is actively experiencing tectonic extension and, in several places, has been interpreted to have lower crust that was (or is currently) heated to above 900°C. To understand the causality between continental extension in North America and these extreme metamorphic conditions, we study exotic rock fragments of the deep crust beneath San Luis Potosí, Mexico that were brought up by a geologically recent volcanic eruption. These rocks record chemical information that tracks the temperature of the geologically modern lower crust prior to eruption and the duration of extreme temperatures and melting in this crust over the last 60 million years. Using this chemical information, we further our understanding of how tectonic extension is actively driving deep crustal melting beneath southwestern North America. Raman spectroscopy and laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry were used to characterize the chemical composition of 34 red garnet beads from Lower Nubian sites, dated between about 3200 BCE and 600 CE. All beads from the A‐Group to the Meroitic period feature a similar calcium‐poor almandine composition (69%–78% almandine, 15%–22% pyrope, 2%–6% grossular, 3%–9% spessartine), which differs from other calcium‐poor almandine garnet types, sourced mostly from Indian deposits in Antiquity. The Nubian beads constitute a new garnet type, named "cluster I", featuring high yttrium (180 to 1205 ppm), moderately low chromium (13–70 ppm), and high scandium (119–213 ppm) concentrations. Their compositions match with previous and two new analyses from two alluvial garnet deposits, Wadi El‐Haraz and Wadi Abu Dom, near the Fourth Cataract of the Nile in Upper Nubia, about 670 km as the crow flies from the Lower Nubian graves. Garnet trade between the Bayuda desert and Lower Nubia sites, and possibly even Egypt, flourished for almost four millennia. Northeastern Africa is the cradle for the oldest use of a gemstone that is harder than quartz—the red almandine garnet. A Post‐Meroitic bead, the youngest in the assembly, displays an unusual faceting, a diamond tipped drill hole, excellent polish, distinct short‐ and long‐prismatic colorless mineral inclusions, and a calcium‐ and manganese‐poor pyrope composition. The Dahongshan Group, situated at the southwestern margin of the Yangtze Block, represents a geological unit characterized by relatively high-grade metamorphism in the region. This paper investigates the garnet-biotite schist from the Laochanghe Formation of the Dahongshan Group, employing an integrated approach that includes petrological analysis, phase equilibrium modeling, and zircon U–Pb dating. The schist is mainly composed of garnet, biotite, plagioclase, quartz, rutile, and ilmenite. Phase equilibrium modeling revealed the peak metamorphic conditions of 8–9 kbar and 635–675 °C. By further integrating the prograde metamorphic profile of garnet and geothermobarometric results, a clockwise P–T metamorphic evolution path is constructed, which includes an increase in temperature and pressure during the prograde stage. LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating and zircon Ti thermometry constrains the post-peak metamorphic age of 831.2 ± 7.2 Ma. Integrated with previously reported results, it is revealed that the southwestern margin of the Yangtze Block experienced a large-scale regional metamorphism during the Neoproterozoic (890–750 Ma), which is related to the collisional orogenic process. This may be associated with the late-stage assembly of the Rodinia supercontinent or with local compression and subduction processes during the breakup of the Rodinia supercontinent. Knowing the Fe3+/ΣFe ratio in minerals is important to understand the formation and evolution of minerals and their host rocks. Variable Fe3+/ΣFe in, e.g., garnet is accompanied by a change of their characteristic FeLα and FeLβ X-ray emission lines, which can be quantified with electron microprobe measurements using the flank method. Previously, the required data reduction process to determine the Fe3+/ΣFe was complex. Here, we present a new data reduction tool taking garnet data as an example. This new Flank Reduction app is a freely available, graphical user interface (GUI)-driven, web-based application to reduce flank method data quickly and easily. The entire data reduction process is achieved in minutes compared to hours or days, as it was before. Flank Reduction provides comprehensive insights into, e.g., the flank method standards employed, data obtained, and errors through a wide array of controls and visualization tools. Documentation with comprehensive information on the flank method, data reduction, as well as training material such as video tutorials or sample data sets, are available on a dedicated webpage. The laser material Y3Al5O12 (YAG), originally known in the form of a single crystal, has become widespread and widely commercialized in the form of optical ceramics. The desire to expand by the size effect the functionality of materials made from nanocrystals actualizes studying the influence of their structure on the optical (vibrational and electronic) and other properties of new promising materials with the YAG base, including glass ceramics. In this work, models of crystalline yttrium aluminum garnet fragments have been calculated using the DFT/uPBEPBE/SDD, DFT/uPBEPBE/lanl2DZ, and DFT/uB3PW91/SDD methods. Infrared spectra have been calculated using the DFT/uPBEPBE/lanl2DZ method, and absorption bands at calculated wave numbers have been correlated with the measured ones. Redox condition is key to understanding crust formation and differentiation processes. We measured Eu anomalies in zircon in the Neoarchean tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite rocks (TTG) from the North China Craton to infer the Eu systematics in TTG melts, which allows us to constrain the minimum melt oxidation states. We find that those TTG samples formed at medium to high pressures have less Eu depletions (high Eu/Eu*) that are comparable to those of Phanerozoic porphyry copper deposits. To generate the zircon Eu signatures in the medium to high pressure TTGs, the melt oxygen fugacity needed to be at least 0–1 log units above the Ni-NiO buffer based on our crystallization modeling. The more oxidized compositions of medium to high pressure TTGs than those of low pressure TTGs are best explained as a consequence of endogenic oxidation due to garnet retention in their sources. Our findings further support that the redox condition of felsic crustal magmas is connected to differentiation pressure or crustal thickness, and this connection holds over much of the Earth's crustal differentiation history. In the late Archean, continuous formation of such oxidized crust may have profoundly influenced volatile output from Earth's interior and oxidative weathering processes at the surface. Canada's northern cratons record a complex poly‐metamorphic evolution in response to multiple orogenic events. The Snowbird Tectonic Zone (STZ), the principal suture between the Archean Rae and Hearne cratons, is a highly debated structure; it is argued to have accommodated modern‐style accretion in either the Neoarchean (2.6–2.5 Ga) or Palaeoproterozoic (ca. 1.9 Ga). To resolve this controversy, we use Lu–Hf garnet geochronology to date an eclogite collected from the East Athabasca mylonite triangle of the STZ. Garnet shows prograde trace‐element zoning, and we obtained an age of 1914.5 ± 3.4 Ma. The age is interpreted to date the timing of collision related to deep burial of crust along the STZ. This strongly supports Palaeoproterozoic terminal collision between the Rae and Hearne cratons, and that to constrain high‐pressure metamorphism during supercontinent assembly, dating eclogite itself is key. Garnets are observed as phenocrysts in blocky rhyolites of Cumaovası Volcanites and are reddish-blackish in color, show vitreous luster, and have dodecahedron forms varying between 0.5 and 2.0 cm in size. In optical microscope investigations, they exhibit fractured structures and contain quartz, hematite, chlorite, and acicular rutile inclusions. Garnet phenocrysts are highly consistent with spessartine-type garnet end members in the Raman spectrum. This result is supported by the mineral chemistry results determined as spessartine (Sps)0.50–0.52 almandine (Alm)0.47–0.48 grossular (Grs)0.01–0.02. In the chondrite, primitive mantle, and Mid-Oceanic Ridge Basalt normalized multi element variation diagrams, garnet phenocrysts show enrichment in all elements (except Sr, K, P, and Ti). In contrast, in the upper continental crust normalized multi element variation diagram, garnet phenocrysts show depletion in large ion lithophile elements (Rb, Ba, K, and Sr) relative to high field strength elements. They exhibit slight enrichment in light rare earth elements ((La/Sm)N = 0.11–1.07) relative to heavy rare earth elements ((Sm/Yb)N=0.78–0.97). Furthermore, garnet phenocrysts have significant negative europium (Eu) ((Eu/Eu*)N = 0.01–0.02) and mildly positive cerium ((Ce/Ce*)N = 2.43–13.77) anomalies indicating hot and reduced magma conditions. The Y/Ho ratios have ranged from 18.9 to 20.3 and are close to the chondrite value. The zircon saturation temperatures (TZr) of the garnet's host rock was determined to be 756 °C. As a result of mineralogical, geochemical and gemological studies, it was concluded that Görece garnet phenocrysts have glassy luster and semi-transparent dodecahedral crystal shapes, so they can be classified as semi-precious gemstones. Banchang is the largest Cu-Mo deposit (348 Mt @ 0.32% Cu and 428 Mt @ 0.07% Mo) in the Qinling orogenic belt, Central China. Orebodies are hosted in the contact between several granitoid dikes and graphite-bearing marble of the Neoproterozoic Yanlinggou Formation. Wallrock alteration comprises garnet skarn, pyroxene skarn, chlorite skarn, and stockwork chlorite-altered marble. Three hydrothermal stages are indicated: (I) prograde skarn stage, (II) retrograde skarn stage, and (III) main sulfides stage. New zircon U-Pb data show two magmatic events, including early Paleozoic granite porphyry (442 − 427 Ma), and late Mesozoic biotite monzogranite porphyry and late Mesozoic granite porphyry (147 − 146 Ma). The zircon trace element compositions show that the late Mesozoic granitoids with ∆FMQ = -0.7 to 2.3 (avg. 0.5; EuN/EuN* > 0.6) resemble the Cu ore-related granitoid in the Qinling orogenic belt and indicate high oxygen fugacity and water contents in the magma. The early Paleozoic granitoids have ∆FMQ= -2.4 to 0.6 (avg. -0.7; EuN/EuN* < 0.2). Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA) on the prograde garnet and pyroxene reveal predominantly andradite (And40 − 94Gro0−51) and diopside (Di53 − 98Hd10−55) compositions, respectively. The garnet Fe3+ contents decreases whereas the pyroxene Fe2+ contents increases from the late Mesozoic granitoid dikes to the marble. This suggests a gradual evolution of the skarn from an oxidized to a reduced state. Stage III sulfide minerals have δ34S = -2.1 to 4.8‰, indicating a magmatic origin. The temporal-spatial relationships, magmatic oxygen fugacity and water contents, zoning of prograde skarn minerals, and the source of sulfur indicate a genetic link between the skarn mineralization and late Mesozoic granitoid dikes. This study proposes a distal Cu-Mo skarn ore deposit model associated with granitoid dikes and some implications for mineral exploration in the Qinling orogenic belt and elsewhere. During continental collision, crustal rocks are buried, deformed, transformed and exhumed. The rates, timescales and tectonic implications of these processes are constrained through the sequence and conditions of metamorphic reactions in major and accessory phases. Petrographic, isotopic and elemental data from metabasite samples in NW Bhutan, eastern Himalaya, suggest initial equilibration under high‐pressure (plagioclase‐absent and rutile‐present) conditions, followed by decompression to lower pressure conditions at high‐temperatures that stabilized plagioclase, orthopyroxene and ilmenite. Field observations and chemical indicators suggest equilibration under the lower pressure conditions is likely linked to the infiltration of melt from the host metasedimentary rocks. The metabasites preserve two metamorphic growth stages of chemically‐and petrographically distinct allanite that temporally overlap two stages of zircon growth. Allanite cores and zircon mantles grew at c. 19 ± 2 and 17–15.5 Ma respectively, linked texturally and chemically to the high‐pressure evolution. Symplectitic rims on embayed allanite cores, wholly symplectized Aln–Ilm and Aln–Cpx grains, and high U zircon rims grew at c. 15.5–14.5 Ma, linked chemically to the presence of melt and lower pressure, high‐temperature conditions. A single garnet Lu–Hf date is interpreted as geologically meaningless, with the bulk rock composition modified by melt infiltration after garnet formation. The open system evolution of these rocks precludes precise determination of the reactive bulk composition during metamorphic evolution and thus absolute conditions, especially during the early high‐pressure evolution. Despite these limitations, we show that combined geochemical and petrographic datasets are still able to provide insights into the rates and timescales of deep orogenic processes. This paper proposes a method for the short-process recovery and reuse of rare earth secondary resources. Low-value rare earth polishing powder waste (WP), trichromatic phosphor waste (WT), NdFeB permanent magnetic waste (WN), and SmCo permanent magnetic waste (WS) were used as the raw materials. Based on the concept of combinatorial chemistry, energy-efficient cool pigments and environmental remediation materials were synthesized by a solid-phase method. The results showed that the synthesized materials had fluorite-type and garnet-type structures. In terms of cool pigments, doping with different rare earth permanent magnets can enrich the color (including yellow, green, brown, gray, and blue) and cause fluctuations in the near-infrared (NIR) reflectance (59.05–99.54 %) and NIR solar reflectance (55.32–95.64 %). Yellow fluorite-type pigments (WP: WT = 1:1) have the highest NIR reflectance (R = 99.54 %), while brown fluorite-type pigments (WP: WN = 1:0.1) and blue garnet-type pigments (WP:WS = 1:0.1) have relatively high NIR reflectance, 88.18 % and 59.30 %, respectively. The synthesized pigments possessed better chemical stabilities and thermal insulation performance. In terms of environmental remediation materials, the adsorption capacities of fluorite-type materials for F− and PO 4 3− can reach 84.03 mg/g and 85.3 mg/g, respectively. In summary, materials synthesized from rare earth waste exhibit excellent potential for use in energy-efficient wastewater treatment and promote the sustainable utilization of secondary rare earth resources. The development of high-quality phosphor ceramics with high photoelectric efficiencies and thermal stabilities is essential for realizing high-power broadband near-infrared light sources. In this study, a series of pure-phase Gd 3 Sc 2 Al 3 O 12 :Cr3+ near-infrared (NIR) phosphor ceramics (GdScCr NIR-PCs) exhibiting remarkable thermal stability and broadband emission were fabricated for the first time using a vacuum sintering technique. The integrated emission intensity at 423 K is 79.8 % of that at room temperature. The GdSc08Cr exhibits an emission peak at a wavelength of 785 nm, with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 116.9 nm under 460 nm excitation. By integrating the GdScCr NIR-PC with a blue light-emitting diode/laser diode (LED/LD) excitation source, the NIR LED prototype achieved a maximum output power of 112.19 mW at 300 mA with a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 13.64 % at 150 mA, and the NIR LD prototype achieved a maximum power output of 484.34 mW at 2.3 A. The operating temperatures of NIR-PCs were 73.1 °C at 300 mA for LED and 90.7 °C at 2.5 A for LD. Moreover, the application of the prepared GdScCr NIR-PCs for fruit and grain detection was performed. These results demonstrate that the prepared GdScCr NIR-PCs possess substantial potential for application in high-power broadband NIR spectroscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Iron, Cu, Pb–Zn, and W–Mo skarn deposits occur in the Gangdese metallogenic belt, Tibet. A lack of precise age constraints for mineralization hinders understanding of the processes contributing to skarn mineralization, particularly identification of the causative intrusions. In this study, new garnet U–Pb geochronological data are provided for the Qiagong (Fe) and Jiaduobule (Fe–Cu) skarns. We place particular emphasis on skarn garnet mineralogy, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA–ICP–MS), to characterize garnet textures, compositions, and U–Pb isotope systematics. All garnets studied belong to the grossular-andradite series and display oscillatory compositional zoning (And 100 Gr 0 to And 20 Gr 80). Andradite-dominated garnet features a chondrite-normalized REE fractionation pattern exhibiting enrichment in LREE relative to HREE and a positive Eu anomaly, whereas grossular-dominated garnet displays relative LREE depletion and a marked flat HREE fractionation trend. Ore-forming elements, including Sn, W, As, and U, are detected at concentrations up to several hundreds of ppm in the same garnets. Concentrations of W and As are higher in andradite and correlate positively with one another. The correlation between U, Sn and the major oxide composition of garnet is insignificant, potentially resulting from the changing valence states of these elements under different redox conditions. Together with previously published and limited new data for the Gebunongba (Fe), Ri'a (Cu), and Hahaigang (W–Mo) skarns, the new garnet U–Pb age data indicate that the major Fe, Pb–Zn, and W–Mo mineralization event in the Gangdese metallogenic belt took place between 65 Ma and 50 Ma, with marked peaks at ∼ 65 Ma and ∼ 53 Ma. Partial melting of a crustal-dominated source due to the slab rollback (∼65 Ma) and break off (∼53 Ma) of Yarlug–Zangbo Tethyan Ocean and subsequent asthenosphere upwelling induced this regional event during the Paleogene to early Eocene. A less common but regionally widespread Cu (±Au) mineralization event in the same belt formed during the Late Cretaceous (∼85 Ma) and may have resulted from the coupled influence of the northward subduction of the Yarlug–Zangbo Tethyan Ocean and the southward subduction of the Bangong–Nujiang Tethyan Ocean. This contribution highlights the potential significance of the Late Cretaceous Cu(±Au) event and hence the prospectivity of the belt for both skarn and porphyry systems. Garnet and zircon in a marble-hosted eclogite from the Dabie ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) terrane, eastern China record a wealth of information on multistage pervasive fluid–rock interactions and Hf mobility in deep continental subduction zones. The eclogite has a peak mineral assemblage of garnet + omphacite + phengite + coesite + magnesite ± dolomite + rutile. Five (inner patchy core, outer core, mantle, inner rim, outer rim) compositional zones were recognized for garnet. According to phase equilibria modeling, the inner patchy and outer cores of garnet likely document a prograde breakdown of lawsonite to UHP peak (3.0–4.5 GPa and 630–750 °C), while a Ca-metasomatism could have also played a role in their formation. The other three garnet zones resulted from multistage garnet re-equilibration at eclogite-facies conditions during isothermal exhumation. The stepwise compositional changes between these different garnet zones suggest that dissolution and reprecipitation played a key role in the garnet re-equilibration, while the repeated actions of such a re-equilibration mechanism reflect multistage pervasive fluid–rock interactions. Zircon from the rock develops three eclogite-facies domains (1, 2, 3). Textural relationships suggest that domain 2 formed in between domain 1 and 3. LA-ICP-MS analyses yielded 206Pb/238U ages of 233 ± 6 Ma, 232 ± 2 Ma and 222 ± 3 Ma for domain 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Domain 1 includes coesite and magnesite and its Th/U is usually higher than 0.1. This domain is interpreted to have formed in the absence of allanite during prograde UHP metamorphism. Domain 2 shows slightly lower ∑MREEs (middle rare earth elements; 7.5–13.5 ppm) and lower Ti (3.0–6.0 ppm) contents than domain 1 (∑MREEs = 10.5–21.0 ppm; Ti = 4.5–7.0 ppm) and most likely formed at the UHP peak. Domain 3 contains much lower ∑MREEs (3.5–6.0 ppm) and higher Ti (7.5–11.0 ppm) contents than domain 1 and 2, which is interpreted to have formed in the stability field of epidote during decompression. Domain 2 (0.282354–0.282607) and 3 (0.282449–0.282636) display lower initial 176Hf/177Hf values than domain 1 (0.282563–0.282667), suggesting that external fluids introduced Hf into the eclogite. These findings not only shed new light on the flow mode of fluids and their role in resetting mineral compositions in deep subduction zones, but also suggest that Hf (a key high-field strength and tracer element) can be efficiently mobilized by (U)HP fluids. Rigid‐flexible coupled composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs, e.g., polyethylene oxide/Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12, PEO/LLZTO) hold the promise of integrating the respective merits of organic polymer electrolyte and inorganic ceramic fillers to achieve better all‐solid‐state batteries (ASSBs), but commonly suffer from poor synergistic effect owing to the ionically/electronically resistive layer on the ceramic surface. Representatively, the Li2CO3 passivation layer‐isolated LLZTO not only contributes minimally to the Li+ conduction in PEO/LLZTO CPE, but also narrows the available electrochemical window. Herein, an interfacial reconstruction strategy is disclosed based on mild liquid‐phase chemical reaction and subsequent self‐assembly, allowing the detrimental Li2CO3 to fully react with succinic anhydride (SA), and simultaneously constructing a robust ultra‐thin lithium succinate (SALi) ionic conductor shell to eradicate its regeneration. Accordingly, the obtained PEO/LLZTO@SALi (PLS) CPE shows a high room‐temperature ionic conductivity (1.2 × 10−4 S cm−1), a wide electrochemical window (4.8 V), a notable Li+ transference number (0.37), as well as nonflammability and exceptional compatibility with Li metal in Li/Li symmetric cells (2000 h at 0.2 mA cm−2). More encouragingly, the Li/PLS CPE/LiFePO4 full ASSB maintains an ultrahigh capacity retention of 84.3% after 1400 cycles at room temperature. In this article, a novel method for SiC production from a residue of coal fly ash (CFA) after high-pressure leaching with a mixture of NH 4 HSO 4 + H 2 SO 4 is proposed. A thermodynamic analysis showed that SiC can be obtained at >1500 °C, and titanium carbide (TiC) and ferrosilicon (FeSi) can form as byproducts. Carbothermal reduction of the CFA residue with carbon in the range 1300–1500 °C with holding time 1–3 h was investigated. X-ray phase analysis (XRD) indicated that SiC forms at >1425 °C. Iron compounds in the form of Fe 3 Si and Fe 5 Si 3 were detected by Mössbauer spectroscopy in a sample sintered at 1500 °C. The possibility of SiC production by a two-step procedure was demonstrated. First, a SiC powder was obtained from the CFA residue and carbon at 1500 °C, then SiC was mixed with yttrium aluminum garnet Y 3 Al 5 O 12 and processed by spark plasma sintering at 1750–2000 °C, holding time 5 min, and pressure 50 MPa. Ceramic samples obtained at 1850 and 1900 °C with compressive strength of 350 ± 17.5 & 416 ± 20.8 MPa and Vickers hardness of 17.89 ± 0.89 & 15.97 ± 0.79 GPa, respectively, proved to be comparable to the best reported SiC + yttrium aluminum garnet ceramics. Thus, this study presents an original method for ceramics production from solid waste of coal-fired power plants; this approach will allow to create a comprehensive technology for utilizing 100 % of CFA. Sub-arc mantle oxidation is often attributed to sulfates from seawater transported in aqueous fluids derived from slab dehydration, but sulfur speciation and origin(s) in high-pressure fluids remain weakly constrained. Here, we use the four sulfur stable isotopes (32S, 33S, 34S, 36S) to decipher processes, e.g. mixing of two end-member reservoirs and open-system reaction occurring during sulfur devolatilization, and deduce the nature and origin of sulfur species in aqueous slab-derived fluids. We analyzed high pressure metamorphic rocks from the Monviso massif Lower Shear Zone (LSZ; Western Alps), recording evidence of an interface-parallel, channelized fluid flow near peak burial metamorphic conditions (∼550 °C and 2.7 GPa). We sampled variably metasomatized Fe-Ti metagabbros, hybrid (talc) schists and serpentinites containing sulfides supposed to preserve the aqueous fluid composition, as well as other alpine metagabbro, metabasalt and serpentinites from greenschist to eclogite-facies devoid of the studied metasomatic overprint. The millimeter to centimeter-sized sulfide crystals found in abundance within LSZ lithologies are mainly pyrites containing inclusions of the peak burial mineral assemblage (e.g. garnet, omphacite, rutile) indicating their crystallization at peak conditions or during incipient exhumation. The sulfides in the non-metasomatic metagabbros and metabasalts cover a narrow range in δ'34S of 0.89 ± 0.63 ‰ and Δ'33S of 0.017 ± 0.01 (n = 6) that could be inherited from hydrothermal sulfides formed on the seafloor. In contrast, the LSZ sulfides from the Fe-Ti metagabbros, serpentinites and hybrid schists (n = 24) are enriched in 34S and 33S (bulk δ'34S from 4.91 to 21.32 ‰ and Δ'33S from 0.02 to 0.06 ‰) compared to the sulfides from the non-metasomatic rocks. Mixing between reduced sulfur species cannot explain all the data without requiring an end-member composition as high as δ34S ∼ 22 ‰ and Δ33S ∼ 0.06 ‰, i.e. values rarely recorded by sulfides in the literature. Instead, we propose that this 33S-34S-enrichment results from open-system sulfate reduction to sulfides in aqueous fluids at 550°C, with an initial δ34S ∼ 12 ± 3 ‰ and Δ33S ∼ 0.025 ± 0.010 ‰. Because this signature is different from seawater sulfate, we suggest that sulfate was produced by hydrothermal sulfide oxidation during antigorite breakdown at 650°C, in agreement with Mg, Ni and Cr enrichments in the metasomatized HP mafic lithologies. This model is consistent with relatively oxidized 34S-enriched arc lavas and can potentially explain recycled sulfur with positive δ34S signature recorded by ocean island basalts. A novel white light converter has been successfully synthesized using a non-reactive sintering process to afford a fully densified Ce:YAG-MgO composite ceramic phosphor with high wavelength conversion efficiency under excitation at 450 nm. The composite obtained by HIP (hot isostatic pressing) treatment at 1080 ºC has no residual pores and the XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis shows that there are no secondary phases other than Ce:YAG and MgO, moreover, the EDS (Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) analysis indicates no interdiffusion at the Ce:YAG-MgO contact interface. The thermal conductivity of 5–7.5 wt% Ce:YAG-added MgO composites is over 40 W/mK, nearly reaching the theoretical value. Due to the synergetic effect of "the difference in refractive index between MgO and Ce:YAG" and "MgO matrix with strong birefringence", the excitation light (450 nm) is multiply scattered inside the composite medium, which provides efficient excitation even in a thin medium, resulting in the photoluminescence intensity that is 2.6 times higher than that of transparent Ce:YAG ceramics. In this study, the garnet-type Yb 3 Al 5 O 12 coating was fabricated by atmospheric plasma spraying and its properties were systematically investigated. Results show the as-sprayed coating consists of crystalline Yb 3 Al 5 O 12 with amorphous phase, recrystallization occurs at 918.5 °C accompanied by a 0.32% volume shrinkage. Yb 3 Al 5 O 12 coating demonstrates low thermal conductivity (2.1 W/(m∙K) at 1000 °C) coupled with a moderate thermal expansion coefficient (8.87 × 10−6 K−1 from 200 °C to 1400 °C). Additionally, Yb 3 Al 5 O 12 coating displays remarkable structure stability and sintering resistance at elevated temperatures. Its robust corrosion resistance can be demonstrated by rapidly generating dense anorthite layers during CMAS corrosion and the lack of a discernible corrosion layer in water vapor corrosion. Yb 3 Al 5 O 12 /YSZ TBC undertakes a thermal cycling lifetime of 970 cycles, superior to YSZ of 764 cycles. This improvement is primarily ascribed to lower oxygen permeability of garnet layer. Post-orogenic magmatism is uncommon in the Songpan-Ganze Orogen (SGO), and could provide deep insights into geodynamic evolution and related metallogenesis. Here we present zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes and whole-rock geochemical data, for post-orogenic granitoids newly identified in the southern SGO. The Longxigou and Yangfanggou granites yield crystallization age of ca. 165 Ma and εHf(t) values of +3.8 to −9.1. This age post-dates regional ca. 220–200 Ma orogenic magmatism and ca. 205–190 Ma peak metamorphism, and corresponds to ca. 200–150 Ma post-orogenic magmatism which is exemplified by neighbouring and coeval Wenjiaping and Wulaxi felsic plutons. They are crosscut by ca. 133 Ma granitic pegmatites, with εHf(t) values of −4.3 to −14.2. These post-orogenic granites show high SiO2 contents, as well as low Mg# values, (Zr + Nb + Ce + Y) concentrations and zircon saturation temperatures. They have continental crust-like REE patterns and trace element profiles, and exhibit negative Eu anomalies, enrichment in large ion lithophile elements and depletion in high field strength elements. Their mineral assemblages lack typical high-temperature (e.g. pyroxene and fayalite) and peraluminous (e.g. garnet and cordierite) varieties. All these features indicate an I-type granite affinity, and a dominant derivation from thickened lower crust. In comparison, these post-orogenic granites are compositionally distinct from regional late-orogenic (>200 Ma) categories, which have more positive εHf(t) values and higher Mg# values, with subduction-related signatures involving significant mantle components. Further, several high-grade stratiform Cu deposits and a tungsten deposit occur to the south of these granitic plutons, and have mineralization ages of 164–151 Ma together with biotite alteration age of ca. 134 Ma. Hence, ca. 165–133 Ma magmatic-hydrothermal system was most likely responsible for Cu-W mineralization and effective upgrading of metal deposits in the southern SGO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rapid development of kilowatt-level lasers is in urgent need of excellent magneto-optical materials for Faraday isolators. In this work, a new component Tb3Al2Ga3O12 crystal was designed to meet applications in high-power lasers. A high-quality single crystal has been successfully obtained by the Czochralski technique. The Tb3Al2Ga3O12 crystal is verified to have high crystallinity with a small full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 43.2′′ and exhibits excellent uniformity, especially enhanced magneto-optical properties, exceeding ∼7–15% that of the traditional TGG crystal. These excellent attributes suggest that the Tb3Al2Ga3O12 crystal can be a promising candidate for Faraday isolators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
