Background/Objectives: PET imaging of bacterial infection could potentially provide added benefits for patient care through non-invasive means. [68Ga]Ga-desferrioxamine B—a radiolabelled siderophore—shows specific uptake by human-pathogenic bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus or Pseudomonas aeruginosa and sufficient serum stability for clinical application. In this report, we present data for automated production of [68Ga]Ga-desferrioxamine B on two different cassette-based synthesis modules (Modular-Lab PharmTracer and GRP 3V) utilising commercially obtainable cassettes together with a licensed 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generator. Methods: Quality control, including the determination of radiochemical purity, as well as a system suitability test, was set up via RP-HPLC on a C18 column. The two described production processes use an acetic acid/acetate buffer system with ascorbic acid as a radical scavenger for radiolabelling, yielding ready-to-use formulations with sufficient activity yield. Results: Batch data analysis demonstrated radiochemical purity of >95% by RP-HPLC combined with ITLC and excellent stability up to 2 h after synthesis. Specifications for routine production were set up and validated with four masterbatches for each synthesis module. Conclusions: Based on this study, an academic clinical trial for imaging of bacterial infection was initiated. Both described synthesis methods enable automated production of [68Ga]Ga-desferrioxamine B in-house with high reproducibility for clinical application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background During the past six decades, remarkable success on malaria control has been made in China. The major experience could be shared with other malaria endemic countries including Tanzania with high malaria burden. Especially, China’s 1–3-7 model for malaria elimination is one of the most important refined experiences from many years’ efforts and key innovation measures for malaria elimination in China. Methods The China-UK-Tanzania pilot project on malaria control was implemented from April, 2015 to June, 2018, which was an operational research with two communities receiving the proposed interventions and two comparable communities serving as control sites. The World Health Organization “Test, Treat, Track” (WHO-T3) Initiative, which calls for every suspected case to receive a diagnostic test, every confirmed case to be treated, and for the disease to be tracked, was integrated with Chinese experiences on malaria control and elimination for exploration of a proper model tailored to the local settings. Application of China’s 1–3-7 model integrating with WHO-T3 initiative and local resources aiming at reducing the burden of malaria in terms of morbidity and mortality by 30% in the intervention communities in comparison with that at the baseline survey. Discussion The China-UK-Tanzania pilot project on malaria control was that at China's first pilot project on malaria control in Africa, exploring the feasibility of Chinese experiences by China-Africa collaboration, which is expected that the strategies and approaches used in this project could be potential for scaling up in Tanzania and African countries, and contribute to the acceleration of malaria control and elimination in Africa.

Our team at Klokner Institute under Czech Technical University in Prague is working in a joint effort with Technical University of Liberec and Klokner on a comprehensive 3D printing system for cementitious materials, including specially optimized robotic arm. The goal of this system is to decrease the environmental impact of construction industry by reducing the volume of materials and time required, as well as reducing need for human labor. 3D printing also makes possible to build complex functional shapes, that would be too complicated or prohibitively expensive to manufacture using standard industry methods. Combining expertise of these two institutions lead to development of a robust system, that seamlessly integrates inhouse developed mechanics and print material. One of key areas of our research is also testing mechanical properties of printed parts which is essential to safely integrate this construction method in real-world use in the future. Arrowsmith is a unique computer-assisted strategy designed to assist investigators in detecting biologically-relevant connections between two disparate sets of articles in Medline. This paper describes how an inter-institutional consortium of neuroscientists used the UIC Arrowsmith web interface http://arrowsmith.psych.uic.edu in their daily work and guided the development, refinement and expansion of the system into a suite of tools intended for use by the wider scientific community.

Based on our recent work, this paper reviews our theoretical study on gallium nitride (GaN) light-emitting-diode (LED). The focus of the paper is to improve LED light extraction efficiency through various nano-grating designs. The gratings can be designed at different locations, such as at the top, the middle, and the bottom, on the LED. They also can be made of different materials. In this study, we first present a GaN LED error-grating simulation model. Second, nano Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) top gratings are studied and compared with conventional LED (CLED) using standing wave analysis. Third, we present results related to a patterned sapphire substrate (PSS), SiO2 Nanorod array (NR), and Ag bottom reflection layer. Finally, we investigate the nano-top ITO grating performance over different wavelengths to validate our design simulation, which focusing on a single wavelength of 460 nm.

An academic librarian answered 24 questions using reference books, then tried to answer the same questions using an Internet search engine (Metacrawler).
