ABSTRACT Objective The establishment of reference values for a subset of leukocytes is common in clinical practice, and ethnic variations are strongly associated with disease development. In Brazil, indigenous people are vulnerable to infections, and few studies have described the health and disease conditions of this population. This study aimed to provide reference values for immunological cell subsets in indigenous Brazilians living in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Methods Flow cytometry and 4-color combinations of monoclonal antibodies were used to characterize cells. A total of 115 healthy adults, mostly females (72%), were included in the study. The results are presented as mean and median (2.5%-97.5% percentiles) for T and B lymphocytes, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, Natural Killer cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells, providing an average immunological profile for the population in question. Results The relative medians of CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells were significantly higher in women than in men in a healthy indigenous population. Conclusion To our knowledge, cell reference data from indigenous Brazilians are unknown in the literature. The immune cell results presented in this pioneering study will contribute to the clinical and laboratory evaluation of the Brazilian indigenous population, especially given the important differences when compared with other Brazilian ethnic groups.

Modern aircraft are being equipped with high-voltage and direct current (HVDC) architectures to address the increase in electrical power. Unfortunately, the rise of voltage in low pressure environments brings about a problem with unexpected ionisation phenomena such as arcing. Series arcs in HVDC cannot be detected with conventional means, and finding methods to avoid the potentially catastrophic hazards of these events becomes critical to assure further development of more electric and all electric aviation. Inductive sensors are one of the most promising detectors in terms of sensitivity, cost, weight and adaptability to the circuit wiring in aircraft electric systems. In particular, the solutions based on the detection of the high-frequency (HF) pulses created by the arc have been found to be good candidates in practical applications. This paper proposes a method for designing series arc fault inductive sensors able to capture the aforementioned HF pulses. The methodology relies on modelling the parameters of the sensor based on the physics that intervenes in the HF pulses interaction with the sensor itself. To this end, a comparative analysis with different topologies is carried out. For every approach, the key parameters influencing the HF pulses detection are studied theoretically, modelled with a finite elements method and tested in the laboratory in terms of frequency response. The final validation tests were conducted using the prototypes in real cases of detection of DC series arcs.

Introduction: Although the adaptive immune responses to the CoronaVac vaccine are known, their dynamics in indigenous communities remain unclear. In this study, we assessed the humoral and cellular immune responses to CoronaVac (Sinovac Biotech Life Sciences, 2021 NCT05225285, Beijing, China), in immunized Brazilian indigenous individuals. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study on indigenous Brazilian people between February 2021 and June 2021. Analyses of immune responses were carried out before (T1) and after a vaccination schedule was completed (T2). Demographic data were collected using a questionnaire. Results: We initially included 328 patients; among them, 120 (36.6%) had no SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collected from 106 patients during follow-up visits, of which 91 samples were analyzed by immunophenotyping assay to detect SARS-CoV-2-specific memory T-cell response. Post-vaccination, the levels of memory B-cells and Natural Killer T-lymphocytes increased. Bororó village residents, females, and Terena ethnic group members had higher levels of anti-spike IgG antibodies post-vaccination, whereas alcohol and tobacco users had lower concentrations. Conclusions: To our best knowledge, this was the first comprehensive assessment of antibody and T-cell responses against CoronaVac vaccination in indigenous patients. Our findings showed that antibody response and T-cell immunity against SARS-CoV-2 were present in most patients following the vaccination schedule.

This study assessed the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in 496 asymptomatic individuals from Mato Grosso do Sul, located in Dourados, the largest periurban indigenous area in Brazil, from January 25 to February 4, 2021. The volunteers participated before receiving their first dose of the CoronaVac inactivated vaccine. For screening, blood samples were collected and analyzed using SARS-CoV-2 rapid tests and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We observed varying trends in total anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies across different variables. Seropositivity among the participants tested was 63.70% (316/496) using the rapid test and 52.82% (262/496) were positive using the ELISA method. The majority of participants identified with the Guarani-Kaiowá ethnic group, with 66.15% (217/328), and other ethnic groups with 58.84% (193/328). The median age of the subjects was 30.5 years, with 79.57% (261/328) being femaleThis research showed the elevated seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in asymptomatic Brazilians. The findings indicate a high seropositivity rate among the asymptomatic indigenous population of Midwest Brazil. This underscores the overlooked status of these communities and underscores the need for targeted national initiatives that emphasize the protection of vulnerable ethnic groups in the fight against COVID-19.

Introduction: Studies suggested that phytochemical products are considered potential solutions to smear layer removal due to their biological safety in cleaning root canal systems, lower toxicity, lower irritant effect and antimicrobial effect. Objective: The aim of the present study was to perform a systematic review to evaluate smear layer removal of root canal systems by different natural product solutions. Methods: systematic review. Search of the literature was performed on Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scielo and Google Scholar according the PRISMA protocol. Studies were included if they performed the experiments of smear layer removal on extracted permanent human teeth. Articles published in any language without restriction of year of publication were included in this review. The risk of bias assessment in the included studies was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Quasi-Experimental Studies. The search strategy resulted in the retrieval of 6221 publications. After the eligibility criteria application, 8 articles were selected for analysis. Results: It was observed that some natural products solutions showed effects on smear layer removal, especially on coronal third. The phytochemical products such as Salvadora persica, chamomile alcohol extract and grape seed extract demonstrated good potential of smear layer removal, however, its effectiveness and clinical applicability are still unclear. Conclusions: Although the limitations of this study, it is possible to highlight those phytochemical products such as Salvadora persica, chamomile alcohol extract and grape seed extract that demonstrated good potential on SL removal.

This paper reviews the results of a challenging engineering project that arose with the goal of implementing an electromechanical, automatic, portable, and inexpensive device. The device should be able to assist people who lack of dexterity in their hands to use small tools and everyday utensils, such as scissors or tweezers. In this paper, the hardware development and software functionality are described. The original specifications were developed to implement an affordable functional prototype able to serve as a low-cost assistive technology. Several commonly used electronic devices were integrated to create an innovative application. A simple mechanical system based on gears and a worm screw is used to convert the stepper motor rotation to a linear movement on the device tip. A tool-oriented control to increase the device usability was designed through two simultaneous communication channels: touch-screen and smartphone app. Pilot trials were conducted at healthcare facilities to evaluate the technical feasibility, the obtained functionality, as well as the device acceptance by target users. Based on user experience design, the app functionality was enhanced and subsequently tested. Finally, a review and reformulation of the specifications of the original design were accomplished. These changes helped to achieve a system with a lower manufacturing cost and better acceptance, while considering the user in the development cycle.

There is a clear trend in the aircraft industry to use more electrical systems in propulsion and electromechanical and electrohydraulic actuators to comply with environmental sustainability and to improve reliability and maintenance processes. The increase of electrical consumption requires an increase of the rated voltages to supply power to these so called More Electrical Aircraft (MEA). Unfortunately, this voltage rise, currently up to 540 Vdc, can lead to ionization processes within the electric wiring due to the lower air density at high altitudes. As a consequence, a degraded insulation can create extremely hazardous events in flight such as arcs between wires (serial) or between wires and fuselage (parallel). Serial arcs in DC bus circuits are specially dangerous for the aircraft operation, so its detection within fractions of seconds is required to ensure a reliable operation. However, during a sustained serial arc the rated current can be passing through air deceiving the protections and avoiding their tripping. In this work, it has been found that arcing introduces high frequency current pulses superimposed to the DC component that can be identified to detect the occurrence of an arc. The frequency components of these pulses depend on the line characteristics and can be detected with inductive sensors. This manuscript also designs and tests a light and inexpensive sensor for arc detection in aircraft applications.

The subject of the article is Reinhart Koselleck’s critique of hermeneutics primacy. More specifically, we shed light on the Koselleckian critique of hermeneutics’ universality by examining some aspects of his confrontation with Hans-Georg Gadamer. In schematic terms, the article is divided into four parts. First, we analyze how the German historian appropriated Martin Heidegger’s philosophy when making an unusual reading of Being and time. After that, we seek to better understand Koselleck’s critique of Gadamerian hermeneutics. In a third moment, we briefly present the constitutive “tension” of all historiographical work according to Koselleck’s perspective. Finally, we use an excerpt from a novel by Hermann Hesse in order to illustrate the Koselleckian argument about sense (Sinn) and non-sense (Unsinn) in history. In conclusion, our aim is to show that maybe Koselleck and Gadamer agreed with each other – maybe they were just looking at the problem from different prisms.

Purpose: Higher education institutions have used more and more project management tools to run development projects to create new professional postgraduate programs. The purpose of this research was to propose an adaptive project management model for creating a professional doctoral course in Business Administration, in order to fulfill the goals established by CAPES. Design/methodology/approach: For such, the qualitative approach was favored with the adoption of the single case study method. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with academic coordinators who are experts in the field in addition to the gathering of documents, thus using data triangulation to explore the phenomenon. The analysis of primary data and the analysis of documents from the Coordinating Agency for Advanced Training of Graduate Personnel (CAPES) served as inputs for analyzing and interpreting the results. Findings: As a result, we developed an adaptive project management model with the following characteristics: a) constant planning of activities, occurring in every cycle of interactions; b) iteration using short activities, allowing for more control of the project; c) validations performed continuously to ensure the goals proposed by CAPES are reached; and d) adaptable to change of scope during the execution phase of the project life cycle. Research limitations/implication: Among the limitations of the study is the lack of other studies related to the use of adaptive project management methodologies for developing postgraduate programs. And for future researches, we point out the need for applying the proposed model, to verify its efficacy and adherence to the development of a professional doctoral course. Originality/value: This study contributes to the academy by highlighting the need for project management as a tool and technique for the development of stricto sensu professional graduate programs. In this way, HEIs will be able to use a model of adaptive project management practices to achieve the objectives proposed by the CAPES evaluation process. As a result, HEIs are strengthened in the management, control and monitoring of the progress of their programs.

Benign nerve sheath tumours include perineuriomas, schwannomas and neurofibromas. Hybrid schwannoma-perineurioma represents a cutaneous, subcutaneous or occasionally intra-osseous tumour with schwannian cytomorphology and perineurioma-like architecture consisting of a mixture of both types of cells. These tumours can develop at any age and there is no gender-predilection. Tongue is the most frequently affected site, followed by palate, mouth floor, jugal mucosa, lips and, more rarely, mandible. We present a case of hybrid tumour with schwannoma-perineurioma morphology located on the right mandibular body (intra-osseous) of a 54-year-old female patient. The tumour was symptomatic and evolving for six months. Microscopically, it was encapsulated and highly cellularised, presenting fascicular aspect and exhibiting scant mitotic activity. The tumour consisted of distinct cellular populations involving fusiform cells, cells with wavy and hyperchromatic nucleus or even epithelioid cells. Positive immunostaining for S-100 and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) was observed. The lesion was completely removed under general anaesthesia, with the patient showing no clinical or radiographic sign of relapse after two-year follow-up. Despite the limited knowledge on the pathogenesis of Hybrid Schwannoma-Perineurioma, these tumours seem to present a non-aggressive biological behaviour. Conservative surgery provides adequate solution without recurrence, even after a long-term follow-up. Key words:Nerve sheath tumours, Schwannoma, Perineurioma, Immunohistochemistry.

This work presents a methodology to perform the scale-up of a solid fuel furnace to a higher heat output with maintaining or improving the burn-out quality. As basis to derive the scale-up concept, an example of a 35 kW screw burner for biomass fuels is investigated. Based on the Pi-theorem, the relevant dimensionless parameters are derived and similarity rules for the scale-up are proposed as follows: As initial conditions, the height to diameter ratio of the combustion chamber, the mean Reynolds number in the combustion chamber and the mean square velocity through the combustion chamber shall be kept constant or in the case of the Reynolds number may also increase. Additionally the effective momentum flux ratio between the secondary air injected in the combustion chamber and the gases from the pyrolysis and gasification section also shall be kept constant to maintain the mixing conditions between combustible gases and secondary air. Finally the thermal surface load on the screw also shall be kept constant. The influence of different scale-up approaches on thermal surface load, gas velocity, pressure losses, Reynolds number and height-to-diameter ratio are compared and discussed and a scaling approach to increase the heat output from 35 kW to 150 kW is described. For a theoretical validation of the scale-up, CFD simulations are performed to investigate the predicted pollutant emissions and the pressure loss for the scaled 150 kW furnace.

A profound understanding of the fuel conversion on a grate boiler is crucial for an optimised boiler operation with a minimised pollutant emission. This work presents gas measurements and numeric simulations of a 150 kW moving grate boiler. The fuel bed model considers drying, pyrolysis and gasification. In the experiments, temperature profiles above the fuel bed and the fuel bed height are measured. Pyrolysis gas is sampled with a cooled probe and analysed on its CO, CO2, CH4, VOC, H2O, H2 and O2 composition. The experiments show that drying occurs in the first third of the grate with a relatively constant release of water vapour from the fuel bed. The temperature of the dried fuel further increases on the grate. The release of volatiles from the fuel pyrolysis starts towards the end of the drying zone and occurs in a relatively narrow zone. The fuel bed simulations are validated, discussed and used to analyse the influence of parameters on the fuel conversion such as the moisture content of the fuel and the primary air distribution. The model forms a basis to calculate the entry conditions for subsequent gas phase simulations.

The purpose of this research was to propose an adaptive project management model for the development of a professional doctoral course project in Business Administration, in order to fulfill the goals established by CAPES. For such, the qualitative approach was favored with the adoption of the single case study method. As a result, we developed an adaptive project management model with the following characteristics: a) constant planning of activities, occurring in every cycle of interactions; b) iteration using short activities, allowing for more control of the project; c) validations performed continuously to ensure the goals proposed by CAPES are reached; and d) adaptable to change of scope during the execution phase of the project life cycle.

This work was supported in part by the RoboCity2030-III-CM Project (Robotica aplicada a la mejora de la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos. Fase III; S2013/MIT-2748), in part by the Programas de Actividades I+D en la Comunidad de Madrid, in part by the Structural Funds of the EU, and in part by the private Fundacion Universia.

The DevOps methodology comes to facilitate the interaction between developers and operations, automating many of the steps necessary to generate the final version of a software application. It is a current trend in software development. However, today, many game projects are developed using procedures that cause delays and crunches. The games industry could benefit from incorporating these models, and their associated tools, into the complex process of developing a game. In this article, a study of the application of integration models in the game development process and a software-tools evaluation available in the market for this purpose is introduced. In addition, an initial DevOps methodology experience is presented, serving as a reference to other similar projects, thereby demonstrating the real possibilities of using DevOps in game development. A combined 1D-fuel-bed and 3D-CFD model for the simulation of an innovative 35 kW screw burner has been developed and validated with experiments. The 1D-fuel-bed model is a further development of a previously presented walking column approach and accounts for the special transport conditions in a screw burner. A new reduced chemical mechanism combined with the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) combustion model is used in the subsequent 3D-CFD simulation. Detailed and reduced mechanisms are first compared in an opposed jet burner and then an improved reduced chemistry model is used in CFD calculations to investigate the influence of different primary and secondary air settings and to be validated with experimental data from a 35 kW prototype burner. The model enables a reasonable prediction of the trends of variations of the excess air ratio in the primary zone (primary λ) and of the global excess air on the emissions and the heat output and is therefore suitable for the design of biomass combustion systems with a moving fuel bed.

Soberania ,Federalismo - Abstract
Made available in DSpace on 2022-06-22T23:46:08Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2016-08-30 The scope of this dissertational paper is to summarize the research report undertaken in the analysis of international society, in the context of advanced globalization of economic, political, social, cultural and juridical processes, aiming, first, to investigate how the legal system and political relations work internationally, in order to verify the way the entities that participate and act on the global geopolitical space interrelate with each other. In this perspective, we sought to establish whether the operation of this international system reveals or not some structural logical trend to organize power that transcends the contractual guidance of states approaches, pointing evidences of a federalization process whit cross-border projection. In other words, as well as a federal state is geopolitically distributed, the aim of this research was to ascertain whether the power in international society is organized as a federative system, or not. The paper had its starting point, basically, on the commonly held idea of limitation or loss of the national sovereignty, and holds an arrow pointing to identify - according to a qualitative, descriptive and bibliographic methodology of approach to the object of this research - if the international systems is becoming into a federal type. In this sense, it was necessary to go, analytically and critically, throughout the concepts of the modern nation-state bases - the ideas of nation, of constitutionalism and of the state itself - starting from a reanalysis guided by the processes and consequences of globalization, which affect human relations at the level of identity, economy, geography etc. Based on the premise of weakening of the relationship that held together nation-State-and-sovereignty, we would "re-read" the national-State position in the global society within the theory of federalism. According to that, we could see that the characteristics commonly attributed to national federations can also be identified, somehow, on the way normative-institutional arrangements of international system have been structured and how they work legally and politically. From the principle of distribution of power in cross-border scale, "post-national federalism" would occur not as an agreed and designed structure among international actors, but as a reorganization process of global society, where several entities work cooperatively, though in an autonomous way, under the orientation of an order of values and norms that seems to be, in some sense, superior and common for all. Keywords: Federalism. Sovereignty. Globalization. National identity. Post-nationalism. Soberania. Globalização. Identidade nacional. Pósnacionalismo.

Further reduction of emissions from Diesel engines will play a central role in development over the next few years. Measures inside the engine will continue to play a crucial role here — even after the introduction of the particulate filter. Homogenous Diesel Combustion (HCCI) is distinguished by extremely low nitrogen-oxide and particulate emissions. In a project undertaken by the Research Society for Combustion Engines in Frankfurt (FVV), this combustion process has been analysed and assessed as to its implementation in diesel passenger-car engines. The research centres involved were the Institute for Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering (IVK) of Stuttgart University and the Laboratory for Aerothermochemistry and Combustion Systems (LAV) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich); overall responsibility was assumed by GM Powertrain Europe.
