Given the increasing awareness of the negative effects of fatigue on daily activities, mental health, and quality of life, antifatigue supplements are becoming increasingly popular among consumers. Selenium has been found to have antifatigue potential in high dosage, but may cause toxicity effects to the body. In this study, inorganic selenium was first converted to nanoselenium particles via in situ synthesis by Lactobacillus rhamnosus SHA113 (Se‐LRS), and then loaded by Ganoderma lucidum spores (GLS). The resulting products were not only assessed for their antioxidant activities, but also the antifatigue potential in mice. As a result, both Se‐LRS and the Se‐LRS/GLS complex exhibited higher antioxidant and antibacterial activities in simulated gastrointestinal fluids compared to isolated selenium nanoparticles. The Se‐LRS/GLS complex demonstrated sustained release of selenium in simulated gastrointestinal fluids and showed significant alleviation of exercise‐induced fatigue indicators, but relatively lower liver selenium accumulation in the mice, surpassing the effects of isolated nanoselenium. No toxicity was found to Caco‐2 cells for Se‐LRS/GLS complex at 2 µg/mL. This is a novel approach to enhance the antifatigue potential of selenium without causing extra toxicity. Wood chips and sawdust are used for cultivating Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms. In Northern Europe, side-streams of Pinus sylvestris are highly abundant, however as cultivation substrate they inhibit the growth of G. lucidum. To identify the changes in lignocellulosic composition after fungal degradation, the major lignocellulosic components in P. sylvestris and an optimal substrate for G. lucidum, Populus tremula were analyzed. Populus tremula was evenly degraded while the glucan fraction of P. sylvestris was not degraded and its lignin fraction was consumed almost completely. Dye-decolorizing peroxidases (DyPs) belong to a novel superfamily of heme peroxidases that can oxidize recalcitrant compounds. In the current study, the GlDyP2 gene from Ganoderma lucidum was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, and the enzymatic properties of the recombinant GlDyP2 protein were investigated. The GlDyP2 protein could oxidize not only the typical peroxidase substrate ABTS but also two lignin substrates, namely guaiacol and 2,6-dimethoxy phenol (DMP). For the ABTS substrate, the optimum pH and temperature of GlDyP2 were 4.0 and 35 °C, respectively. The pH stability and thermal stability of GlDyP2 were also measured; the results showed that GlDyP2 could function normally in the acidic environment, with a T50 value of 51 °C. Moreover, compared to untreated controls, the activity of GlDyP2 was inhibited by 1.60 mM of Mg2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, and ethanol; 0.16 mM of Cu2+, Zn2+, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, and Na2EDTA·2H2O; and 0.016 mM of Fe2+ and SDS. The kinetic constants of recombinant GlDyP2 for oxidizing ABTS, Reactive Blue 19, guaiacol, and DMP were determined; the results showed that the recombination GlDyP2 exhibited the strongest affinity and the most remarkable catalytic efficiency towards guaiacol in the selected substrates. GlDyP2 also exhibited decolorization and detoxification capabilities towards several dyes, including Reactive Blue 19, Reactive Brilliant Blue X-BR, Reactive Black 5, Methyl Orange, Trypan Blue, and Malachite Green. Background: Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) is a famous medicinal mushroom that has been reported to prevent and treat a variety of diseases. Different extractions from G. lucidum have been used to manage age-related diseases, including cancer. Nevertheless, the senolytic activity of G. lucidum against senescent cancer cells has not been investigated. Although cellular senescence causes tumor growth inhibition, senescent cells promote the growth of the neighboring tumor cells through paracrine effects. Therefore, the elimination of senescent cells is a new strategy for cancer treatment. Methods: In this study, senescence was triggered in HCC cells by the chemotherapeutic agent Adriamycin (ADR), and subsequently, cells were treated with TC to assess its senolytic activity. Results: We found for the first time that the triterpenoid complex (TC) from G. lucidum had senolytic effect, which could selectively eliminate adriamycin (ADR)- induced senescent cells (SCs) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells via caspase-dependent and mitochondrial pathways-mediated apoptosis and reduce the levels of senescence markers, thereby inhibiting the progression of cancers caused by SCs. TC could block autophagy at the late stage in SCs, resulting in a significant activation of TC-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, TC inhibited the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) in SCs through the inhibition of NF-κB, TFEB, P38, ERK, and mTOR signaling pathways and reducing the number of SCs. Sequential administration of ADR and TC in vivo significantly reduced tumor growth and reversed the toxicity of ADR. Conclusion: A triterpenoid complex isolated from G. lucidum may serve as a novel senolytic agent against SCs, and its combination with chemotherapeutic agents may enhance their antitumor efficacy. Periodontal disease presents a significant challenge in oral health due to its chronic inflammatory nature and subsequent degradation of tooth-supporting structures. Natural compounds have attracted attention for their potential therapeutic effects in alleviating symptoms of periodontitis (PD). In this study, we investigated the impact of Ganoderma lucidum spore oil (GLSO), a lipid component extracted from broken-walled GLS using the supercritical CO2 extraction method, on PD pathogenesis in vitro and in vivo. Treatment of human gingival fibroblasts with GLSO resulted in a significant reduction in the expression of inflammatory factors, including matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 and interleukin (IL)-8, upregulated by lipopolysaccharide or IL-1β. Molecular mechanism studies revealed that the observed decrease in inflammatory factor expression may be attributed to the inhibition of phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase activity by GLSO. Furthermore, intraperitoneal injection of GLSO in a ligature-induced PD mouse model led to a notable reduction in periodontal inflammation and alveolar bone loss, accompanied by decreased levels of MMP-1 and IL-8. These in vivo results support the potential therapeutic efficacy of GLSO in alleviating PD symptoms. Overall, our study provides novel insights into the beneficial effects of GLSO in PD management. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms and explore the clinical applicability of GLSO as a promising therapeutic agent for PD treatment. Ganoderma lucidum, a popular medicinal fungus, has been utilized to treat a variety of diseases. It possesses a unique therapeutic and pharmacological reputation in suppressing cancer/tumor progression, especially breast cancer, due to its embedded rich bioactive chemical constituents, mainly triterpenoids (ganoderic acids). The most prevalent malignant tumor in women with a high mortality and morbidity rate is breast cancer. Ganoderic acids A, D, DM, F, and H are evidenced in previous research to have breast cancer–preventive properties by exhibiting autophagic and apoptosis, anti‐proliferative, and anti‐angiogenesis effects. However, the anti‐breast cancer mechanism remains unclear. The putative targets of the ganoderic acids were further determined using bioinformatics techniques and molecular docking calculation. Finally, the key targets were verified in vitro. A total of 53 potential target proteins associated with 202 pathways were predicted to be related to breast cancer. The potential targets were narrowed down to six key targets (AKT1, PIK3CA, epidermal growth factor receptor [EGFR], STAT1, ESR1, and CTNNB1), using different algorithms of the CytoHubba plugin, which were further validated using molecular docking analysis. The ganoderic acid DM (GADM) and the targets (PIK3CA and EGFR) with the strongest interactions were validated via MDA‐MB‐231 and MCF7 cells. The expression level of PIK3CA in both MDA‐MB‐231 and MCF7 cells was dose‐dependently suppressed by GADM, whereas EGFR expression was unexpectedly increased, which warrants further investigation. Ganoderma has received much attention for its medicinal value, but the manipulation of multiple genes remains a challenge, hindering the genetic engineering of this species for the development of cell factories. Here, we first showed that the presence of an intron is necessary for the efficient expression of the endogenous cDNA of carboxin-resistant gene (cbx) in G. lucidum. Then, the self-cleaving function of 2 A peptide was investigated in G. lucidum by linking cbx cDNA to the codon-optimized hygromycin B-resistant gene (op hph) using the 2A-peptide sequence. The results showed that cbx cDNA and op hph can be successfully expressed in G. lucidum in a bicistronic manner from a single transcript. Moreover, the expression of both genes was not affected by the order within the 2 A cassette. In addition, simultaneous expression of cbx cDNA, op hph , and codon-optimized yellow fluorescent protein gene (op yfp) was conducted for the first time in G. lucidum using the 2 A peptide-based approach. The developed method was successfully applied to express both cDNA of the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (hmgr) and squalene epoxidase gene (se) for enhanced production of ganoderic acids (GAs) in G. lucidum. The engineered strain produced the maximum content of GA-Mk, GA-T, GA-S, and GA-Me were 26.56±3.53,39.58±3.75, 16.54±2.16, and 19.1±1.87 μg/100 mg dry weight, respectively. These values were 3.85-, 4.74-, 3.65-, and 3.23-fold higher than those produced by the control strain. Background Results Conclusion There are few studies about the differences in the composition of moisture, ash, crude protein, crude fat, crude polysaccharide and ergothioneine in Ganoderma lucidum spore powder (GLSP) from different origins. As for GLSP after oil extraction (OE‐GLSP), there are still lots of bioactive substance in it. It can be seen that OE‐GLSP has certain biological activity. The effect of OE‐GLSP on the improvement of intestinal barrier function has been less studied.The results showed that there were significant differences for GLSP from five different origins (Anhui, Jilin, Jiangxi, Shandong and Zhejiang) in moisture (0.065–0.113%), ash (0.603–0.955%), crude fat (42.444–44.773%), crude polysaccharide (2.977–4.127%), crude protein (14.761–17.639%) and ergothioneine (0.552–1.816 mg g−1) (P < 0.05). The monosaccharides of GLSP polysaccharide mainly consist of glucose, galactose, mannose, rhamnose, etc. Moreover, the effects of OE‐GLSP supplementation on the regulation of organ index, colonic tissue and intestinal microbiota in C57BL/6J mice were investigated. The supplement of OE‐GLSP could restore the organ index and weight loss of antibiotic‐treated mice. Moreover, OE‐GLSP led to the improvement of intestinal dysbiosis by enriching Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Lactobacillus and Roseburia, and increasing the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. In addition, OE‐GLSP intervention repaired intestinal barrier dysfunction by increasing the expression of tight junction proteins (Occludin, Claudin‐1 and E‐cadherin).Different GLSP from five origins exhibited significant differences in microstructure and contents of crude polysaccharide, crude protein, crude fat, water, ash and ergothioneine. Ganoderma lucidum has anti-tumor effects, but its mechanism of action against lung cancer is not clear. This study aims to use molecular docking and network pharmacology to investigate how G. lucidum inhibits tumor growth in lung cancer and how this relationship relates to the degree of immune cell infiltration. By utilizing the TCMSP database, the therapeutic targets and active ingredients of G. lucidum were discovered. Based on the targets found in subsequent rounds of screening, a protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed. Additionally, enrichment analysis was conducted using GO and the KEGG. The molecular docking was conducted with the help of AutoDock Tools and PyMOL. Finally, we investigated the relationships between immune cells and the commonalities between lung cancer and. The primary targets of G. lucidum's anti-lung cancer activities, according to network pharmacology studies, are ADRB2, OPRM1, SLC6A4, and JUN. The primary components of the lung cancer fighter Ergosterol are ganoderal B, ganolucidic acid E, and beta-sitosterol. The molecular docking analysis revealed that beta-sitosterol had the highest degree of stability in its docking interaction with JUN. The immune infiltration analysis indicated a potential correlation between the biomarkers associated with G. lucidum treatment for lung cancer and the immune infiltrating cells. G. lucidum combats lung cancer by targeting multiple components and signaling pathways, facilitating cancer cell apoptosis and interacting with immune responses. The electrospinning process is an effective technique for creating micro- and nanofibers from synthetic and natural polymers, with significant potential for biomedical applications and drug delivery systems due to their high drug-loading capacity, large surface area, and tunable release times. Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) stands out for its excellent thermo-mechanical properties, biodegradability, and bioabsorbability. Electrospun PLLA nanofibrous structures have been extensively investigated as wound dressings, sutures, drug delivery carriers, and tissue engineering scaffolds. This study aims to create and characterize electrospun PLLA membranes loaded with spironolactone (SP), mimicking active compounds of Ganoderma lucidum (GL), to develop a biodegradable patch for topical wound-healing applications. GL, a medicinal mushroom, enhances dermal wound healing with its bioactive compounds, such as polysaccharides and ganoderic acids. Focusing on GL extracts—obtained through green extraction methods—and innovative drug delivery, we created new fibers for wound-healing potential applications. To integrate complex mixtures of bioactive compounds into the fibers, we developed a prototype using a single pure substance representing the extract mixture. This painstaking work presents the results of the fabricating, wetting, moisture properties, material resilience, and full characterization of the product, providing a robust rationale for the fabrication of fibers imbued with more complex extracts. Ganoderma, a traditional medicine in Asian countries, has been used to prevent and treat various ailments for centuries. Ganoderma neo-japonicum (synonym Ganoderma bambusicola), also known as purple Lingzhi, is a species that is currently underutilised when compared to Ganoderma lucidum (Lingzhi). However, in recent decades, this mushroom has garnered significant attention due to its ethnomedicinal uses, especially in Southeast Asia regions like Malaysia. The taxonomy and nomenclature of this mushroom have been extensively studied. Numerous publications have reported that G. neo-japonicum displays a variety of medicinal properties, including antioxidation, anticancer, anti-hyperglycaemic, genoprotective, hepatoprotective, neuritogenic, and antidiabetic effects, both in vitro and in vivo. With the surge of research findings on this mushroom, this review aims to provide a systematic bibliometric analysis of G. neo-japonicum, published between 1991 to 2021. Additionally, the taxonomic description of this mushroom is discussed in detail. Our review reveals that G. neo-japonicum contains polysaccharides (α/β-D-glucans), triterpenoids, and sterols/ergosterol. However, the existing literature suggests that these active compounds have not yet been explored to their full potential as drug candidates. Moreover, most of the studies are preclinical and have several drawbacks. In conclusion, G. neo-japonicum possesses valuable pharmacological activities that merit further exploration. This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of Ganoderma lucidum, Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus eryngii, and Inonotus hispidus fungal extracts on HT-29 and HCT-116 colorectal cancer cell lines and to search the DNA damage and oxidative stress caused by these extracts. Accordingly, mushroom extracts were applied to colorectal cancer cell lines in vitro, and the IC50 result was obtained with the MTT test. According to the IC50 result, Ganoderma lucidum extract had the most effective cytotoxicity value among all used mushroom extracts. TAS, TOS, and NRF-2 tests were used to investigate the molecular effect of Ganoderma lucidum extract on oxidative stress; the DNA ladder test was performed to assess DNA damage, the Scratch assay method was applied for cell migration analysis, and the colony assay was used to determine the colony formation potential of the cells. The results showed that Ganoderma lucidum mushroom extract reduces cell proliferation, colony formation, and NRF-2, induces DNA damage, slows cell migration, and increases oxidative stress. This study shows that Ganoderma lucidum mushroom extract reduces cell proliferation through damaging cellular DNA and has a cytotoxic effect in colorectal cancer cell lines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic multifactorial disease caused by microorganisms such as G-anaerobes in the periodontal tissues. It activates host defense cells and releases inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Ganoderma lucidum is a traditional medicinal mushroom with anti-inflammatory effects against various diseases. Biologically, different levels of its active constituents, such as triterpenoids and phenolic compounds, reduce inflammation with various pathways. Furthermore, the constituents inhibit toll-like receptor 4, MyD88 receptors, and the activities of nuclear factor-kappa B, which synthesize TNF-α and PGE2. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the extent to which G. lucidum extract can reduce TNF-α and PGE2 levels in periodontitis model Sprague Dawley rats. Methods: Thirty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups of five rats. Periodontitis inflammation was induced by the injection of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria into intrasulcular gingival incisors in the lower jaw labial section. Grouping was as follows: Group K1 (healthy control); Group K2 (negative control); Group K3 (positive control with doxycycline dose 0.27 mg/kg BW); Group P1 (G. lucidum extract dose 5 mg/kg BW); Group P2 (G. lucidum extract dose 10 mg/kg BW); and Group P3 (G. lucidum extract dose 20 mg/kg BW). Samples were taken from rat gingival tissue and the levels of TNF-α and PGE2 were examined using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Data analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with a confidence level of 95% (p < 0.05). Results: The levels of TNF-α and PGE2 were the highest in the K2 group and the lowest in the K1 group. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in TNF-α and PGE2 levels between P3 and K1 group. Ganoderma lucidum, used in East Asia for its health benefits, contains ganoderic acids (GA) which have various pharmacological activities but are limited by poor water solubility and low oral bioaccessibility. This study synthesized and characterized ganoderic acids loaded zein-chitosan nanoparticles (GA-NPs), and investigated its advantages in alleviating alcoholic liver injury (ALI) in mice model. The GA-NPs demonstrated high encapsulation efficiency (92.68%), small particle size (177.20 nm), and a +29.53 mV zeta potential. The experimental results of alcohol-induced liver injury mouse model showed that GA-NPs significantly improved liver metabolic function, reduced alcohol-induced liver oxidative stress in liver by decreasing lactate dehydrogenase activity and malondialdehyde level, while increasing the activities of liver antioxidant enzymes and alcohol dehydrogenase. Moreover, GA-NPs were favorable to ameliorate intestinal microbiota dysbiosis in mice exposed to alcohol by increasing the proportion of probiotics such as Romboutsia, Faecalibaculum, Bifidobacterium and Turicibacter, etc., which were highly correlated with the improvement of liver function. Furthermore, GA-NPs modulated the mRNA expression related to ethanol metabolism, oxidative stress and lipid metabolism. Conclusively, this study revealed that GA-NPs have stronger hepatoprotective effects than non-encapsulated ganoderic acids on alleviating ALI by regulating intestinal microbiota and liver metabolism. Ganoderma lucidum (GL) is a kind of edible fungus with various functions and a precious medicinal material with a long history. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide (GLP) is one of the main bioactive substances in GL, with anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, and other biological activities. GLP is closely related to human health, and the research on GLP is getting deeper. This paper reviewed the extraction and purification methods of GLP, the relationship between structure and activity, and the qualitative and quantitative methods. This review provides solutions for the analysis and application of GLP. At the same time, some new methods for extraction, purification and analysis of GLP, the relationship between advanced structures and activity, and future applications of and research into GLP were emphasized. As a kind of bioactive macromolecule, GLP has unique functional properties. Through the comprehensive summary of the extraction, purification, and analysis of GLP and its future prospects, we hope that this review can provide valuable reference for the further study of GLP. Metallic nanoparticles are of growing interest due to their broad applications. This study presents the green synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (ZnNPs) using Ganoderma Lucidum mushroom extract, characterized by DLS, SEM, XRD, and FTIR spectroscopy analyses. The synthesis parameters, including extract/salt ratio and mixing time, significantly influenced nanoparticle yield, size, and polydispersity, with longer mixing times leading to larger, more varied particles. Specifically, the sizes of ZnNPs synthesized at a 1:1 extract/ZnCl2 ratio after 3 h and 24 h were 90.0 nm and 243.3 nm, with PDI values of 48.69% and 51.91%, respectively. At a 1:2 ratio, the sizes were 242.3 nm at 3 h (PDI: 43.19%) and a mixture of 1.5 nm, 117.4 nm, and 647.9 nm at 24 h (PDI: 2.72%, 10.97%, and 12.43%). Polymer films incorporating PVA, chitosan, and ZnNPs were analyzed for their morphological, spectroscopic, and mechanical properties. Chitosan reduced tensile strength and elongation due to its brittleness, while ZnNPs further increased film brittleness and structural degradation. A comparison of the tensile strength of films A and C revealed that the addition of chitosan to the PVA film resulted in an approximately 10.71% decrease in tensile strength. Similarly, the analysis of films B1 and B2 showed that the tensile strength of the B2 film decreased by 10.53%. Swelling tests showed that ZnNPs initially enhanced swelling, but excessive amounts led to reduced capacity due to aggregation. This pioneering study demonstrates the potential of Ganoderma Lucidum extract in nanoparticle synthesis and provides foundational insights for future research, especially in wound dressing applications. BACKGROUND: The hard double‐walled structure of Ganoderma lucidum spore powder (GLSP) is difficult for the human body to digest, so it is very important to break the wall of GLSP. In this study, the wall of GLSP was broken by mechanical milling at room temperature (MM‐R) and ultra‐fine grinding at low temperature (UFG‐L), respectively. RESULTS: Compared with MM‐R, UFG‐L could better retain the sporangium powder's morphological and structural integrity. During in vitro digestion, compared with unbroken GLSP, the released amounts of polysaccharides and triterpenes from broken GLSP were significantly increased, and they increased with the increase of specific surface area. The bioaccessibility of polysaccharide and triterpene from unbroken GLSP after the intestinal stage were 29.52% and 5.37%, respectively. The bioaccessibility of polysaccharides and triterpene from broken GLSP by MM‐R after the intestinal phase were 39.73–72.45% and 16.44–24.97%, while those by UFG‐L were 44.53–104.18% and 12.96–32.90%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The active ingredients of broken GLSP showed better digestion and absorption abilities than unbroken GLSP. Background: Thymic atrophy marks the onset of immune aging, precipitating developmental anomalies in T cells. Numerous clinical and preclinical investigations have underscored the regulatory role of Ganoderma lucidum spores (GLS) in T cell development. However, the precise mechanisms underlying this regulation remain elusive. Methods: In this study, a mice model of estradiol benzoate (EB)-induced thymic atrophy was constructed, and the improvement effect of GLS on thymic atrophy was evaluated. Then, we employs multi-omics techniques to elucidate how GLS modulates T cell development amidst EB-induced thymic atrophy in mice. Results: GLS effectively mitigates EB-induced thymic damage by attenuating apoptotic thymic epithelial cells (TECs) and enhancing the output of CD4+ T cells into peripheral blood. During thymic T cell development, sporoderm-removed GLS (RGLS) promotes T cell receptor (TCR) α rearrangement by augmenting V-J fragment rearrangement frequency and efficiency. Notably, biased Vα14-Jα18 rearrangement fosters double-positive (DP) to invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cell differentiation, partially contingent on RGLS-mediated restriction of peptide-major histocompatibility complex I (pMHCI)-CD8 interaction and augmented CD1d expression in DP thymocytes, thereby promoting DP to CD4+ iNKT cell development. Furthermore, RGLS amplifies interaction between a DP subpopulation, termed DPsel-7, and plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), likely facilitating the subsequent development of double-negative iNKT1 cells. Lastly, RGLS suppresses EB-induced upregulation of Abpob and Apoa4, curbing the clearance of CD4+Abpob+ and CD4+Apoa4+ T cells by mTECs, resulting in enhanced CD4+ T cell output. Discussion: These findings indicate that the RGLS effectively mitigates EB-induced TEC apoptosis and compromised double-positive thymocyte development. Hierarchical porous carbon-based biomass is considered the most promising functional carbon-based electrode material for energy conversion and storage as a result of its abundant natural resources, multi-heteroatom self-doping and easy of modification. In this study, Ganoderma lucidum spore-derived carbon material (GLSC–2) with oxygen-rich/nitrogen-doped three-dimensional, hierarchically connected porous structure was synthesized by a two-step route of pre-oxidation in air followed by KOH etching. It is worth noting that pre-oxidation in air can not only preserve the natural cage-like structure of spores, but also introduce a significant number of oxygen-containing functional groups with the help of atmospheric oxygen. The synthesized GLSC–2 possessed high O content (14.27%), moderate N content (1.99%) and relatively high specific surface area (1524.73 m2 g−1), along with high-density micropores and narrow mesopore distribution, which were crucial for promoting rapid ion diffusion and improving the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. Encouragingly, GLSC–2 exhibited an attractive specific capacitance of 261.13 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and excellent rate capability. Even at a high current density of 10 A g−1, the capacitance retention rate remained at 81.60%. After 10,000 cycles of charge–discharge at 2 A g−1, the capacity retention rate and Coulombic efficiency were maintained at 98.63% and 99.19%, respectively. When assembled into a symmetric supercapacitor (GLSC–2//GLSC–2), the energy density reached 9.03 Wh kg−1, with a power density approaching 500 W kg−1. Ganoderma lucidum, a member of the Basidiomycetes family, is attracting attention for its medicinal potential due to its biological activity and the presence of numerous bioactive compounds. Although it is known that extracts of this mushroom inhibit melanin production, there are few reports on a single substance associated with this effect. In this study, we identified ganodermanontriol (GT), a novel compound from G. lucidum, that effectively inhibited melanin biosynthesis in B16F10 cells. GT inhibits melanin production by suppressing the expression of cellular tyrosinase proteins and microphthalmia-related transcription factor (MITF). Furthermore, GT affects the phosphorylation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) response element-binding protein (CREB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling molecules, which are involved in melanogenesis in B16F10 cells. Finally, the biosynthesis of GT and other substances by G. lucidum was evaluated using HPLC analysis. Thus, this study revealed the mechanism by which GT in G. lucidum inhibits melanin production in B16F10 cells, and these findings will contribute to promoting the potential use of this mushroom in the future. For centuries, mushrooms have been used as a component of skincare formulations. Environmental stresses and a modern lifestyle expose the skin to accelerated aging. To slow down this process, natural anti-aging skincare ingredients are being sought. In this review, 52 scientific publications about the effects of chemical compounds extracted from the fruiting bodies of macrofungi on skin cells were selected. The effects of extracts from nine species that are tested for anti-aging effects have been described. According to available literature data, macrofungi contain many polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, polysaccharide peptides, free amino acids, sterols, proteins, glycosides, triterpenes, alkaloids, which can have an anti-aging effect on the skin by acting as antioxidants, photoprotective, skin whitening, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and stabilizing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid levels in the skin. In response to the suboptimal electrochemical performance of low-valence vanadium oxides, Ganoderma lucidum biomass-derived carbon@V2O3 (V2O3@CGL) composites were prepared by evaporative self-assembly technology and high-temperature calcination. In the prepared composites, V2O3 effectively encapsulates CGL, serving as a support for V2O3 and enhancing electrical conductivity and structural stability. This results in improved overall performance for the composites. They revealed satisfactory electrochemical properties when assembled in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). The preliminary discharge specific capacity of the V2O3@CGL-2 (VOCG-2) composite electrode reached 407.87 mAh g−1 at 0.05 A g−1. After 1000 cycles, the capacity retention is 93.69% at 3 A g−1. Since 2019, COVID-19 has been raging around the world. Respiratory viral infectious diseases such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection are also prevalent, with influenza having the ability to cause seasonal pandemics. While vaccines and antiviral drugs are available to prevent and treat disease, herbal extracts would be another option. This study investigated the inhibitory effects of extracts of Echinacea purpurea (EP) and Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) and the advanced G. lucidum drink (AG) on influenza A/B viruses. To determine whether EP and G. lucidum extracts enhance cell immunity and thus prevent virus infection or act to directly suppress viruses, cell survival and hemagglutination (HA) assays were used in this study. Cells were treated with samples at different concentrations (each sample concentration was tested from the highest non-cytotoxic concentration) and incubated with influenza A/B for 24 h, with the results showing that both G. lucidum and EP extracts and mixtures exhibited the ability to enhance cell survival against viruses. In the HA assay, AG and EP extract showed good inhibitory effect on influenza A/B viruses. All of the samples demonstrated an improvement of the mitochondrial membrane potential and improved resistance to influenza A/B virus infection. EP and G. lucidum extracts at noncytotoxic concentrations increased cell viability, but only AG and EP extract directly decreased influenza virus titers. In conclusion, results indicate the ability of EP and G. lucidum extract to prevent viruses from entering cells by improving cell viability and mitochondrial dysfunction and EP extract showed direct inhibition on viruses and prevented viral infection at post-infection strategy. BACKGROUND: The present research was conducted to investigate the impact of reishi mushroom extract (RME) on the formation of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) in meatballs. Sample preparations involved applying RME using either the spreading or addition method, with varying concentrations (0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1% of RME), followed by deep‐frying at temperatures of 150 and 190 °C for 3 min. RESULTS: The types and levels of HAAs varied based on the frying temperature, method of extract application, and the extract concentration. Notably, total HAA contents increased with rising the frying temperature (P < 0.01) and varied from undetectable levels to 4.91 ng g−1 across all analyzed meatballs. The addition method was more effective than the spreading method (P < 0.01), and among the concentrations tested 0.25% RME exhibited the highest efficacy in reducing total HAAs (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the addition method inhibited lipid oxidation more efficiently compared to the surface spreading method (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that RME had mitigating effects on HAAs depending on the concentration and frying conditions in deep‐fried meatball samples. © 2024 The Author(s). Chemotherapy is an important factor leading to male infertility. It is crucial to discover safe and effective treatments to prevent male reproductive injury caused by chemotherapy. The Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide peptide (GLPP) has multiple pharmacological activities. The purpose of this study was to determine whether GLPP could protect the male sperm production from chemotherapeutic injury using a mouse model, with testicular damage induced by cyclophosphamide (CP). CP (50 mg/kg/day) was injected intraperitoneally into male ICR mice gavaged with different doses of GLPP at certain spermatogenic stages. The experimental results showed that GLPP alleviated the CP-induced reduction in reproductive organ coefficients and sperm parameters and reduced the morphological damage of testicular tissues in a dose-dependent manner. GLPP significantly improved the reproductive index, sperm-related parameters, sex hormone levels, and histological testis architecture at different spermatogenic stages. Furthermore, GLPP significantly increased superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), Nrf2, and HO-1, and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) and Keap-1 in the testicular tissue, indicating reduced oxidative stress. In addition, GLPP limited CP-induced apoptosis via a reduction in Bax expression and increase in Bcl-2 expression. This study suggests that GLPP plays a protective role in spermatogenesis by reducing chemotherapeutic injury and might be developed into drug for male patients receiving chemotherapy. Antibiotics present a pressing environmental challenge as emerging pollutants due to their persistence and role in promoting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. To model the utilization of Ganoderma lucidum GlLCC1 laccase in degrading antibiotics, a 3D homology model of GILCC1, based on Lentinus tigrinus mushroom laccase, was utilized. Five broad-spectrum WHO-designated antibiotics with molecular weights between 100 and 500 Da were selected. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted at pH 3.0 and 7.0 to evaluate the interactions between GILCC1 and antibiotics in a TIP3P water box, with system behaviour assessed at 300 °K using an NPT assembly. ABTS (2,2ʹ-Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic Acid)) served as the comparison molecule. The binding free energy indicated a strong affinity between 3D GILCC1 and various ligands. At pH 3.0, GILCC1 exhibited significant Gibbs free energy (ΔG), indicating a high affinity for Levofloxacin (LVX; −8.2 kcal mol−1), Sulfisoxazole (SFX; −7.8 kcal mol−1), Cefuroxime (CXM; −7.5 kcal mol−1), Cephradine (CFD; −7. 5 kcal mol−1), ABTS (−7.6 kcal mol−1), and Tetracycline (TE; −7.5 kcal mol−1), attributed to pocket topology and interactions such as hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces. Electron transfer in GILCC1 involved a chain of residues, including His395 and Phe239. Although the affinity decreased at pH 7.0, the potential of GILCC1 to degrade antibiotics remained plausible. This study accurately predicted the behaviour of the laccase-antibiotic system, providing atomic-level insights into molecular interactions and emphasizing the importance of experimental assays and assessments of antibiotic degradation in wastewater, considering various chemical compounds. In order to explore the differences of taste and metabolites of different Ganoderma lucidum strains, the fruiting bodies of different Ganoderma lucidum strains were taken as samples, the taste of aqueous extracts of 21 different Ganoderma lucidum strains were determined by electronic tongue. The non-targeted metabonomics techniques of ultra high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry were used. Combined with principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least square discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and other statistical methods based on the results of taste cluster analysis, three different Ganoderma lucidum strains (GL229, GL219, GL236) were selected for metabolite identification and analysis. The results showed that the response values of sour, umami, bitter and salty taste of water extracts of different Ganoderma lucidum strains were quite different. A total of 6057 metabolites were identified from the water extracts of three different Ganoderma lucidum strains. There were 1282, 1311 and 1966 differential metabolites between GL219 and GL229, GL236 and GL229, GL219 and GL236, respectively. There were 123 differential metabolites among the three control groups, including organic acids and their derivatives, benzene ring compounds, organic oxygen compounds, organic heterocyclic compounds, lipids and lipid compounds. The main differential metabolites were Jamaicamide C, 2-isopropylmalicacid, 1-naphthylamine, tyramine, genipin and so on. The differential metabolites L-glutamine, glutamine, cinchonine, solanidine, phenylacetaldehyde and dehydrocholicacid were flavor substances, which contributed to the taste differences of water extracts of different Ganoderma lucidum strains. This study showed that metabonomics could be used to analyze the compositions differences of Ganoderma lucidum with different taste. Therefore, it could provide a theoretical basis for the material basis of Ganoderma lucidum taste.

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic multifactorial disease caused by microorganisms such as G-anaerobes in the periodontal tissues. It activates host defense cells and releases inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Ganoderma lucidum is a traditional medicinal mushroom with anti-inflammatory effects against various diseases. Biologically, different levels of its active constituents, such as triterpenoids and phenolic compounds, reduce inflammation with various pathways. Furthermore, the constituents inhibit toll-like receptor 4, MyD88 receptors, and the activities of nuclear factor-kappa B, which synthesize TNF-α and PGE2. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the extent to which G. lucidum extract can reduce TNF-α and PGE2 levels in periodontitis model Sprague Dawley rats. Methods: Thirty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups of five rats. Periodontitis inflammation was induced by the injection of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria into intrasulcular gingival incisors in the lower jaw labial section. Grouping was as follows: Group K1 (healthy control); Group K2 (negative control); Group K3 (positive control with doxycycline dose 0.27 mg/kg BW); Group P1 (G. lucidum extract dose 5 mg/kg BW); Group P2 (G. lucidum extract dose 10 mg/kg BW); and Group P3 (G. lucidum extract dose 20 mg/kg BW). Samples were taken from rat gingival tissue and the levels of TNF-α and PGE2 were examined using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Data analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with a confidence level of 95% (p < 0.05). Results: The levels of TNF-α and PGE2 were the highest in the K2 group and the lowest in the K1 group. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in TNF-α and PGE2 levels between P3 and K1 group. Conclusion: G. lucidum extract can reduce TNF-α and PGE2 levels in Sprague Dawley rats with periodontitis.

Groundwater contamination in India exposes an estimated 70 million people to arsenic. Over 10 million people in the state of Bihar (India) are at risk of arsenic poisoning. As reported 27 districts of the state's thirty-eight districts are under a state of catastrophe. Symptoms noticed by those who have been exposed to the arsenic caused disease are-lack of appetite, neurobehavioral problems, hyperkeratosis, and melanosis on the skin. So, this study's primary objective is to find novel approaches to treat arsenic poisoning in rats using the Charles Foster model. Following permission from the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, the animals were divided into three groups: one group served as a control, the second group received arsenic treatment, and the third group received Ganoderma lucidum extract after arsenic treatment. For the arsenic group, the rats were given 8 mg/kg body weight of sodium arsenite orally every day for 90 days, and then for 60 days, they were given 80 mg/Kg body weight of Ganoderma lucidum extract via gavage. Their biochemical values, including those of the liver and kidneys, were found to be increased. In addition, their levels of free radicals, including lipid peroxidation, were measured and found to be substantially higher. In addition, the levels of arsenic in the kidney and liver tissue were very high. However, biochemical and lipid peroxidation levels were significantly restored after administration of Ganoderma lucidum ethanolic extract. Arsenic levels in rat liver and kidney tissues were also found to be reduced. Ganoderma lucidum has a therapeutic impact against arsenicinduced toxicity, according to the present research. Breast cancer (BC) is the most commonly diagnosed tumor, remaining one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in females worldwide, with the highest rates in Western countries. Among metastatic BC (MBC), triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by the lack of expression of specific receptors, and differs from other subgroups of BC for its increased growth and fast spreading, with reduced treatment possibilities and a worse outcome. Actually, MBC patients are extremely prone to metastasis and consequent relapses, which affect distant target organs (e.g., brain, lung, bone and liver). Hence, the comprehension of biological mechanisms underlying the BC metastatization process is a key requirement to conceive/set up innovative medicinal strategies, with the goal to achieve long-lasting therapeutic efficacy, reducing adverse effects, and also ameliorating Quality of Life (QoL). Bioactive metabolites isolated from medicinal mushrooms (MMs) used as a supportive treatment, combined with conventional oncology, have recently gained wide interest. In fact, mounting evidence has revealed their peculiar promising immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities, even though these effects have to be further clarified. Among the group of most promising MMs are Lentinula edodes, Grifola frondosa, Ganoderma lucidum, Ophiocordyceps sinensis and Agaricus blazei, which are already employed in conventional cancer protocols in Asia and China. Recently, a growing number of studies have focused on the pharmacology and feasibility of MM-derived bioactive compounds as a novel valuable approach to propose an effective adjuvant therapy for MBC patients’ management. In this review, we summarized the current state of knowledge on the abovementioned MM-derived bioactive compounds and their therapeutic potential in clinical settings.

Neurological disorders including neurodegenerative disorders continue to pose significant therapeutic challenges. Triterpenoids, a diverse group of natural compounds found abundantly in plants, possess promising neuroprotective properties. This review aims to explore the potential of triterpenoids in mitigating neurodegeneration through various mechanisms, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic activities. The neuroprotective potential of some notable triterpenoids, such as asiatic acid, asiaticoside, madecassoside, bacoside A, bacopaside I, ganoderic acids, and lucidenic acids are discussed in terms of their ability to modulate key pathways implicated in neurological disorders. Additionally, the potential therapeutic applications of triterpenoids in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral ischemia, spinal cord injury, and epilepsy are examined. Furthermore, the review also underlines the challenges for the development of triterpenoids as neuroprotective agents, including the need for further preclinical and clinical studies to elucidate their efficacy and safety for translation into clinical practice.

To explore the protective effects of water extracts from different Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) mycelium on ethanol-induced hepatocyte injury in LO2 cells. The effects of water extracts obtained from different G. lucidum mycelium against ethanol-induced damage to LO2 cells were examined in this research. Cell survival rate, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured in a liver injury model employing ethanol-induced LO2 cells, to assess the preventive effects of G. lucidum mycelium water extracts against ethanol-induced damage. In the present study, we investigated the effect of supercritical carbon-oxide (scCO2) extraction on antioxidant capacity, enzyme inhibitory potential, and levels of ergosterol and ganoderic acid in both cultivated and wild-grown G. lucidum. Extraction yields were slightly higher for wild samples (1.29%) than for cultivated ones (1.13%). The levels of ganoderic acid and ergosterol were higher in cultivated in comparison to wild samples. In addition, the total phenolic content in cultivated samples (13.42 mg GAE g−1) was higher than in wild samples (10.38 mg GAE g−1). In general, cultivated samples exhibited stronger antioxidant potential when compared with wild ones. Regarding enzyme inhibitory properties, it was validated that the wild samples (14.01 mg OE g−1) possessed greater lipase activity in comparison to cultivated samples (5.36 mg OE g−1). This study investigates the potential synergy effect of Ganoderma lucidum and Lentinus edodes mushroom extracts delivered through niosomes (composed of Span 40, Tween 40, and cholesterol) for anti‐cancer and antimicrobial applications. GC–MS analysis revealed bioactive compounds such as d‐limonene, ascorbic acid, and ergosterol in the extracts, known for their anti‐cancer and antimicrobial effects. The niosomal formulations exhibited improved physical properties, with sizes ranging from 96 to 160 nm and polydispersity index (PDI) values in the range of 0.29–0.54, suggesting that the niosomes had an acceptable size distribution and homogeneity. In cell culture studies, the niosomal formulations demonstrated significant cytotoxic effects on A549 lung cancer cells, with the combination of both extracts leading to a notable decrease in cell viability to 14.86%. Additionally, the combination of G. lucidum and L. edodes extracts in niosomal form showed varying and potent antimicrobial properties against pathogenic bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (Candida albicans) with lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values compared to their free form, indicating a potential synergistic effect. The findings highlight the potential synergistic anti‐cancer and antimicrobial effects of the combined mushroom extracts delivered through niosomes, offering valuable insights for developing novel drug delivery systems. Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neurodegenerative disease (ND), has been plaguing healthcare and health policy agencies due to its ever-soaring impact globally. It is timely to develop appropriate measures to combat global AD burden. In this special issue, the present article reviews the state-of-the-art findings on AD model animals from the alternative and integrative medicinal point of view. Our integrative therapeutic agents include fungi (Ganoderma lucidum), turmeric (Curcuma longa), Indian black berry (black plum, jamun) (Syzygium cumini), and madecassoside (derived from Centella asiatica). Their bio-components, especially flavonoids, polyphenols, and tri-terpenoids, resist oxidative stress, amyloid beta fibrillation, and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels; improve anti-oxidative prowess; and improve learning-related memory and anxiety-like behavior in AD model animals. Most of the findings described here are outcomes of our own studies. However, our claims have been substantiated with evidence from some other studies in the relevant field. Objective: Chronic inflammation is considered to be of key importance in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide (GLP) and Hypericum perforatum (HP) have been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. We studied the effects of these agents on ovarian tissue in a rat model of experimental PCOS. Materials and Methods: Forty-two Sprague-Dawley female rats were divided into 6 groups with 7 animals in each group as listed below: Group 1: Control, Group 2: PCOS, Group 3: PCOS + HP, Group 4: HP only, Group 5: PCOS+ GLP, Group 6: GLP only. At the end of the experimental procedures, all the animals underwent bilateral oophorectomy and blood samples were collected. Ovarian tissue and blood samples were used for biochemical and histopathological analysis. Results: Follicle degeneration in the PCOS group showed a statistically significant increase compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). Cystic follicles were significantly reduced in the PCOS+GLP and PCOS+HP groups as compared to the PCOS group. Levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were elevated in PCOS rats (p < 0.01). Levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) levels were diminished (p < 0.01). Levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) were increased in PCOS rats as compared to the other groups (p < 0.02, p < 0.02, respectively). GLP supplementation diminished the levels of IGF-1 and MDA. GLP or HP supplementation increased reduced glutathione (GSH). Conclusion: GLP and HP treatment normalizes SHBG levels while correcting PCOS-induced hyperandrogenemia. To investigate the mechanism by which Ganoderma lucidum enhances the immune function in chickens, genes related to chicken immune function and the main effective components of Ganoderma lucidum targets were obtained through databases such as TCMSP. Visualization analysis of the Ganoderma lucidum-target-immune protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was performed using Cytoscape 3.10.0 software, followed by GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis through the David database. Finally, molecular docking was conducted using AutoDock software to verify the binding activity of key effective components with key targets. The results showed that a total of 42 effective components of Ganoderma were identified, including 10 key effective components such as Ganoderma lucidum alcohol B, Ganoderma spore lactone B, and Ganoderma lucidum aldehyde B, along with 332 immune-related genes. The PPI network included seven key targets such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and non-receptor tyrosine kinase (SRC). The GO functional enrichment analysis covered 23 biological processes, 22 cellular components, and 23 molecular functions. The KEGG pathway enrichment analysis yielded 11 related signaling pathways. The minimum binding energy of the molecular docking was all less than -20.9 kJ/mol, indicating good docking results. The study suggests that the key effective components of Ganoderma that enhance chicken immune function are 10, the key targets are 7, and the related signaling pathways are 11, the results can provide a reference for the application of Ganoderma as a feed additive. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype characterized by the absence of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 expression. It is known for its high malignancy, invasiveness, and propensity for metastasis, resulting in a poor prognosis due to the absence of beneficial therapeutic targets. Natural products derived from mushrooms have gained significant attention in neoplastic therapy due to their potential medicinal properties. The therapeutic potential of Ganoderma lucidum in breast cancer has been highlighted by our group, suggesting its use as an adjuvant treatment. The present study aims to assess the potential antineoplastic capacity of two Caribbean native Ganoderma species found in Puerto Rico, Ganoderma multiplicatum (G. multiplicatum) and Ganoderma martinicense (G. martinicense). Antiproliferative studies were conducted via cell viability assays after cultivation, harvesting, and fractionation of both species. The obtained results indicate that most of the fractions show some cytotoxicity against all cell lines, but 33% of the fractions (F1, F2, F7, F12) display selectivity towards cancer cell models. We demonstrate for the first time that native Ganoderma species can generate metabolites with anti-TNBC properties. Ganoderma lucidum is known for its bioactive compounds, such as polysaccharides and triterpenoids, which are crucial in food and medicine. However, liquid fermentation encounters challenges in terms of strain differentiation and stability. In this research, we employed atmospheric room temperature plasma mutation and a microbial microdroplet culture system to identify strains with enhanced biomass and triterpenoid production. The three mutant strains, YB05, YB09, and YB18, exhibited accelerated growth rates and antagonized the initial strain G0023 more effectively than the controls. Notably, YB18 displayed the fastest growth, with a 17.25% increase in colony radius. Shake flask cultivation demonstrated that, compared with the initial strain, YB05 and YB18 had 26.33% and 17.85% greater biomass, respectively. Moreover, the triterpenoid production of YB05 and YB18 surpassed that of the control by 32.10% and 15.72%, respectively, as confirmed by colorimetric detection. Importantly, these mutant strains remained stable for five generations. This study revealed a comprehensive screening system utilizing atmospheric pressure, room temperature plasma mutation technology and microbial droplet cultivation. This innovative approach offers a promising pathway for obtaining advantageous Ganoderma strains for liquid fermentation. Ganoderma mushroom is one of the most important medicinal mushrooms that has been used especially in the Orients for the treatment of diverse chronic disease conditions. Therefore, the objective of this study is cultivation, molecular identification and productivity assessment of a commercial strain (W1) and two wild strains (W2 & W3) of Ganoderma mushroom harvested from tree stumps in a rainforest at Ugbowo, Benin City, Nigeria using appropriate standard techniques. The molecular study revealed that all the three strains were indeed Ganoderma lucidum, though, results show that there were significant differences among the strains. Irrespective of the inoculum size, the number of days to maturity of the fruiting bodies was about 30 days for strain W3, 18-22 days for strain W2 and 10-11 days for strain W1. Overall, it took 6-11 days for primordial formation and 10-30 days for maturity of the fruiting bodies. The biological efficiency (BE) of the strain ranged from 0.7-2.4%. The results show that biological efficiency of the strains was poor, perhaps due to the infancy of Ganoderma cultivation in the country caused by poor substrates and supplements selection, colonization and fruiting conditions. Prosopis cineraria (L.) Druce (Khejri) is a multipurpose tree that plays an important role in the rural economy of arid and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan. Recently the number of Khejri trees has continuously decreased and they are drying up. A comprehensive survey was conducted to investigate the causes and severity of P. cineraria tree mortality in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Climate change, deepening of the water table, excessive lopping and use of modern machinery in farming damage the roots and make them vulnerable to pests and fungi. All the dry Khejri trees in the study area were infected by the root borer Acanthophorus serraticornis or the root rot Ganoderma lucidum or both. Inflorescence gall is another serious problem in Khejri trees as it significantly reduces pod formation. There is a dire need to make the local people aware of the causes of death of this multipurpose tree and motivate them to restore the Khejri cover in the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Forest ecosystems play an important role in upholding life on our planet. However, the onslaught of fungal pathogens like Ganoderma lucidum, poses a threat by decimating numerous tree species. G. lucidum identified as a root pathogen, causing root rot in numerous tree species of horticulture and forestry importance. The fungus initiates infection through basidiospores, which germinate and penetrate within roots and start to degrade lignocellulosic components of plant cells. Early‐stage detection of G. lucidum, is challenging, while in advance stages, the wood undergoes softening and a loss of tensile strength, rendering the disease incurable. Hence, effective management of G. lucidum necessitates a pivotal role of disease diagnostic techniques, which are currently underutilized or inadequately accessible. Subsequent implementation of suitable control measures becomes imperative to thwart disease occurrence and mitigate its impact in early stages, thus preserving the vitality of forest ecosystems. This study provides comprehensive overview of G. lucidum, covering taxonomy, pathogenicity, disease cycle, diagnosis and effective control measures, which will be helpful in formulating effective diagnostic techniques for early management of root rot disease. Globally, the circular efficiency of biomass resources has become a priority due to the depletion and negative environmental impacts of fossil fuels. This study aimed to quantify the atmosphere-dependent combustion of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) biomass and its thermodynamic and kinetic parameters toward enhancing its circularity and transformability characteristics. The GL combustion occurred in the three stages of moisture removal, volatile release, and coke combustion. Combustion performance characteristics were more favorable in the N2/O2 atmosphere than in the CO2/O2 atmosphere under the same heating rates. The rising heating rate facilitated the release of volatiles. According to the model-free methods of Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose, the activation energies essential for the primary reaction were 283.09 kJ/mol and 288.28 kJ/mol in the N2/O2 atmosphere and 233.09 kJ/mol and 235.64 kJ/mol in the CO2/O2 atmosphere. The gaseous products of the GL combustion included CH4, H2O, C = O, CO, CO2, NH3, C = C, and C–O(H). Ash prepared in both atmospheres exhibited a tendency for slag formation, with oxy-fuel combustion lowering its risk.
